The hotel is praised for its excellent location, particularly for those visiting UC Berkeley or attending events at the Greek Theater. The staff is consistently described as friendly and helpful. However, the reviews highlight several issues with the rooms, including cleanliness, size, noise, and water pressure. Parking also seems to be a common problem.

The pub food was very good.....great salad and good burger. So convenient if going to a show at the Greek Theater. You can walk there and parking at the hotel is easy and convenient.

Everything was substandard. The hotel is old and the rooms are small. There are minimal amenities (no cups in the bathroom, no shower caps, one body lotion; paper cups for instant coffee that were not replaced daily, housecleaning was inadequate, our room was not vaccumed, the bath mat was on the floor. When I asked for housekeeping to bring something, half an hour passed and I had to call again. The lobby has an odd smell. There was an empty water cooler in the seating area. The best thing was the $25 food and beverage credit at Henry's, food was decent.

The beds were very uncomfortable. The room safe didn't work properly - even after hotel staff "fixed" it. The restaurant was awful, with a very sparse menu and not even the items on the menu were all available.

I love this hotel so close to all the restaurants and campus, the only negative the room we stayed at the shower doesn’t have a strong pressure and the water is either cold or hot. Otherwise the rooms are clean .

STAFF - 2 Stars - There were only 2 or 3 young girls at the front desk that we met during our 3 day stay. All of them looked unhappy at their job and seemed a better fit at a Thrift Store. CLEANLINESS - 3 Stars - much to be desired, specifically in the bathroom. Let's just say I was not about to use the bathtub. Throughout the room and bathroom, it looked like a deep clean was much needed. RESTAURANT - 4 Stars - Nothing spectacular, my salad was not fresh, but prices were reasonable and the service was fast. OTHER - 3 Stars - There was a very strong smell in the lobby, which I could not say what it was - candle or something else. While the decor in the lobby was interesting and inviting, it seemed that students and random people could just come in, buy a coffee and sit there using their computers. The room was a good size (we had the corner Campenile view) however, it did not feel clean, there was no pen, not even a single piece of paper to write a note. The Front Desk lobby area did not have any interesting materials on the area, what to do or see and I was not about to ask the front desk ladies, they did not inspire much confidence. There was no concierge either. Overall good location, but not even a 4 Star hotel.

It was a character property very close to the university of Berkeley campus, and close to all of the venues. The street was lively and the bar downstairs was a nice spot to have a coffee in the morning, laptop time in the lounge and a cocktail in the evening. Gym was small but serviceable. I would encourage travellers to bring good ear plugs. Some road noise, general noise from neighbors could impact sensitive sleepers. Also parking was sometimes a challenge as the two above ground lots were almost always full or had only 1 spot available. If you have a large car it is somewhat difficult to get in and out of the spots and tough to turnaround as someone new always parked in the non parking areas.

Love the historic character and decor. We could see the bay from our room. Rooms are on the small side but it's worth it for the fun decor and theming, and I liked the old fashioned bathroom. Breakfast voucher appreciated and large portions! Also they have good coffee in the room. Slow service for breakfast, need more than two servers. Also front desk staff at Graduate hotels often are "away"/on break, just a quirk I've noticed when checking in at several Graduate hotels. Not a long wait and friendly front desk staff.

Room 319 — AC unit makes constant noise, Electric outlet in night stand is dirty and sticky, Electric molding is dirty and Last call for for drinks was like 915pm AND you could not order food at that time! Nice lobby, but I rate this as a 2.5 star hotel. You Sheetrock and paint the walls, replace molding, replace tubs with showers or reglaze tubs, regroute tiles. Get better signage on outside of hotel as hotel was hard to find

Great place if you’re visiting the Berkeley area or Cal in general. In walking distance of everything Cal related with great local spots everywhere. I understand the property is older, but rather than feeling thoughtfully maintained or updated, it came across as run-down and simply painted over. The difference between the online photos and what you experience in person is quite noticeable, which was disappointing. During my stay, the restaurant was not in service, and the small coffee area was also closed, which limited the overall hotel experience. Additionally, the walls are extremely thin, making it easy to hear noise from surrounding rooms. While I appreciated the kindness and professionalism of the staff, the condition of the property and lack of available amenities made it difficult to justify the cost of the stay. With more investment and transparency, this hotel could offer a much better experience, but as it stands, it did not feel worth the price paid.

The property itself is very old and has that old smell to it. The rooms are TINY (I had 2 double beds and it was tight). No idea how more than 1 person could stay in this room. The bathroom was so small, as was the sink and every time I used it water went all over the floor. There was no hot water in the shower both days I stayed there so expect a freezing cold shower. The hotel walls are paper thin. I could EVERYTHING the people next door did (could even hear them opening food wrappers). At one point I thought someone was in my room because of the noise. Nope, just paper thin walls with no soundproofing. If you stay here request the top floor so nobody is walking above you (wood floors). This was honestly one of the worst facilities I have ever stayed at in my life and I do a solid amount of traveling.

Parking was terrible. We have stayed at this location once before with no problem. The second visit was terrible. Apparently they blocked off the parking lots for football tailgate party. This left no parking. Parking on the street is nearly impossible. There is a garage 2 blocks away but because of the football game the cost 55.00 per night. Then took 30 minutes to get into front door from outside because it was packed with students there to party. This all fine if I would have been aware of it. Hotel gave no awareness when booking room. I will find another place to stay when in town to visit my son.

It was a rough start for this stay. We tried to park in their lot and there were signs everywhere saying no parking due to tailgate event. So we called the hotel and asked the employee where we should park instead and she was unsure. So we finally found a random lot and came to check in and that employee gave us a paper that had information of the parking garage we were supposed to park in...which would have been helpful to know when we called. Also while we were waiting to check in, their system wasn't working apparently because one guest was upset their key didn't work and another was upset because the room they were assigned had guests in it already. Thankfully we didn't have any issues once we were in the room which was fine and comfortable enough for the night stay.

If you want to be near Berkeley Campus, this boutique hotel is super cute! The theming is great, the rooms are cozy and retro yet have all the modern amenities. Gym was quite nice for a small hotel. The bar was appreciated as well! Parking was easy (not cheap). Would 100% stay again!

This property was close to the Greek Theater and was $378. We had to wait until 4:00pm to check in. Everyone else was allowed to check in...except us. Our room was filthy. The bath tub wasn't an option. And, the ENTIRE night, you could clearly hear conversations in other rooms, as well as banging around. The staff...was used to this. They didn't care. However, one girl was leaving and she offered to give me her parking space. I don't know where I would have parked otherwise. Total ripoff.

If you never had a chance to visit Russia when it was still the Soviet Union, the Graduate hotel in Berkeley will giive you a sense of what an Inturist hotel was like. The desk clerks don't smile; they lock the doors at night after about 11; there's one very slow elevator to serve hte rooms on six floors; and you wait in line for 15 or 20 minutes to place your order for breakfast, if you get into line before hte croissants and muffins run out. Oh, and the internet is very slow.

My complaint is the hotel food and service. We were tired and ate an early dinner at the hotel. Food choices were limited and pricey but you had a waitress. My beef is the breakfast. Instead of sit down with a waitress you Get in line order and wait. Breakfast sandwich was a greasy egg and sausage Pattie on a hamburger bun. The coffee tasted like instant (same as in the rooms) and my daughter’s Matcha drink was terrible. I expected better from a Hilton owned property and the hotel manager needs to take notice. Again, go OUTSIDE the hotel for all your meals! I won’t make that mistake again

The original price of this room was over $500. For that price point I would expect a professional staff and look and feel to this hotel. When checking in the person at the front desk was wearing a sweatshirt with his hood on. Also no friendly or welcoming. All the changes were not explained. Very few amenities, parking is a joke for the fees one pays, the lighting in place is too dim, sink in room was literally 12”x16”, it was difficult washing hands, the art work in the room was offensive (Black Panther and Marxist themed). Neighborhood is sketchy and run down. Can’t believe UC Berkeley is such a dump! So glad I didn’t pay full price for this place.

Overall we had good experience except one major issue: the sliding bathroom door failed and locked m daughter inside until I use a cloth hanger to crank it on one end to force it open. We told front desk and they sent someone to fix it but failed. So we had to leave the bathroom door open for the remains time of our stay, which is really inconvenient to say the list!

I've stayed in a lot of Graduate hotels and love the brand. Not so much this one. Waited a long time for check-in even though 2 staff were free behind the desk. Parking is awful. Generally dirty and not properly renovated at all. It's like cheap lipstick on a decrepit pig. Staff are very nice but not properly trained at all. Bathroom tub was chipped and dirty, tiny wall sink with high faucet was unusable for washing one's face or shaving, and the tops of the shower products had mold all iver them. Hilton needs to make a major investment in bringing the property up to par (renovation and staff training), or remove the property from their portfolio. It's a true embarrassment for a quality brand.

Pretty awful experience. They had no parking at check-in. So I parked in the taxi zone while I ran in to check in and ask what to do. When I went back minutes later, the car had a ticket. They really need to have more parking and/or a sign telling guests there is a parking lot around the block. They took no responsibility for the ticket. Then they said there was a food credit of $25 a day. They credited this the first day but not the second. Then they charge $37 a day for parking (around the block, self-parking)--pretty exorbitant. And the price does not include various taxes and junk fees. $25per day "Destination Fee"! What on earth is that? Really left with the feeling of having been ripped off.

Loved the historical architecture and fun design of the place. It smells like it hasn't been adequately dusted or the carpet cleaned. Soundproofing in the bathrooms was nonexistent. I think the HVAC duct was vented to the bathroom next door. I could hear the guy next door blowing his nose and singing! Possible code issue? Wall A/C is very noisy. Motion-sensor lighting for just a few hall lights is bizarre. Otherwise it's great!
