Reviews
Planters Inn is a historic hotel located in the heart of Charleston, with a convenient location close to restaurants, shopping, and attractions. The staff is consistently praised for their friendliness, attentiveness, and professionalism. However, some guests have reported issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and amenities in the rooms.

- Issues with cleanliness and maintenance in some rooms
- Lack of amenities such as refrigerators and working outlets in some rooms

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was beautiful, clean and comfortable! Food excellent

Needs upgrades. Very
- 3/5
The bed and pillows need to be updated. Not comparable to cost paid for stay.
- 2/5
The building is old and the corridors and rooms have an unpleasant musty smell to them. They try to mask it with carpet freshener in the lobby and dehumidifiers in the corridors, but it was overwhelming. I was disappointed for the star rating and price range.
- 5/5
Nice classic hotel. Excellent location with excellent staff and service. Comfortable room.
- 5/5
We had a wonderful stay at Planters Inn while celebrating my mom’s 80th birthday in Charleston. The staff was exceptional, our courtyard-facing suite was spacious and comfortable, and the location was perfect. Having a great restaurant on-site was an added bonus. We would definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful ! We were quite amazed at the twelve foot ceilings in our room & throughout the hotel, the walls were adorned with a very classic golden damask wallpaper. It all flowed quite seamlessly. The Pennisula Grill was quite impressive, as well. In all fairness, it was a Friday night. With that being said, things had gotten off to a slow start & our waiter was quite busy and his demeanor was initially not overly welcoming. However, once dinner ensued, our dining experience quickly became one to be remembered. Their filet literally melts in your mouth. Everything was delicious ! Outside the restaurant, is a very relaxing courtyard, complete with tropical plants & fountains. Simply beautiful. The hotel is located right across from the mkt. and just above Rainbow Row. Very conveniently located for all this beautiful city has to offer ! Cannot recommend this hotel enough ! Will certainly stay here again Thank you to all who made this trip wonderful Stars: 5/5

Elevator kept breaking down. They are scheduled for a refresh and it certainly needs it.
- 5/5
I liked the convenient location, the attentive helpful staff, the attractive decor, the outdoor dining atmosphere and the quality food we had during our stay.

Super friendly staff, great breakfast.

The staff and service were excellent and the property is beautiful!

Great property!
- 5/5
The location is outstanding! Walkable to all the main attractions. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Housekeeping came in twice a day - once to clean and make up the bed and a second time to turn down the bed -ready for a good nights rest!
- 5/5
This property is a great choice for historic hotels and want to be in the middle of everything. Restaurant is excellent and offers both breakfast and dinner. Loved their grill and is a great place for drinks and a quick bite. Room was large and very attractive. Comfort also excellent.
- 5/5
Our stay at the Planters Inn at Meeting & Market streets was absolutely wonderful. We can't wait to go back and stay again. Rooms were lovely, the courtyard very quaint and we had a delicious meal at the Peninsula Grill.
- 5/5
Great hotel and location
- 5/5
Breakfast staff and food was terrific. Great location
- 4/5
The staff were great but overall for a Relais & Chateau we did not think it reached the level we expected, it needs a refurb in some areas.
- 5/5
It felt like everyone had been friends for years and it was our turn to visit them.
- 5/5
Such a beautiful hotel, great location, welcoming and helpful staff. Restaurant and bar exceeded expectations. Wished we had stayed longer. Would recommend to anyone! If we were to be super critical - why Molton Brown toiletries???… go local! Perhaps it’s because we are English and it was a surprise/shame to not have a local brand in place…also amenities kit (cotton pads, ear buds) missing from the room, this is a basic provision.
- 5/5
We had a great experience! Clean room great staff great walking distance to all.
- 5/5
This is the height of southern hospitality. Flights got delayed and we checked in after mid-night. Front desk still had two glasses of wine for our relation and enjoyment. Highly recommend for classic Charleston charm.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, excellent location, good valet parking available as well!
- 5/5
Very nice.
- 5/5
The location right in the heart of the historic district was excellent! Walkable to many desirable sites and restaurants. The room was very nice and the food was delicious. I love the history behind the building and how well it is preserved.
- 3/5
Location was the best thing about the hotel. Nice hotel products in room and coffee machine. The inn needs a lot of renovation. Our room had curtains with rips in them, furniture is worn and so is the carpet. Bathroom tubs are outdated and hard to get in and out. Housekeeping came once in our 3 night stay. Very noisy in the morning.

Wonderful historic hotel — perfect location, excellent staff.

- 5/5
I liked everything about Planters Inn; great location, beautiful rooms, excellent service, delicious and lovely restaurant and breakfast/dessert building
- 5/5
The staff is excellent from the Bell Man to the front desk and the cleaning staff! Gorgeous hotel, beautiful and delicious restaurant. Truly at first class.
- 5/5
The service is excellent and the car services are very convenient. The rooms are a great size with many amenities. Also the maid service is exceptional. I would highly recommend!!!
- 5/5
Charming inn, great history, outstanding restaurant and excellent location!
- 3/5
The breakfast was disappointing. The muffin, sausage and coconut cake were dry. The staff were great, all very friendly and helpful. The location was great. Our room was noisy, the room above us they were moving furniture or jumping up and down. The bed in our room was too high and the bed was noisy.
- 5/5
Paying 45 dollars a day for parking.
- 5/5
I would definitely come back. The staff and all were very helpful. Didn't have breakfast there but the cocktails were great! So many wonderful restaurants close by.
- 5/5
The location was great for walking to many historic sights and the water front. Right across the street from city market. Near many great restaurants and bars . It was beautiful and very clean. Beds were amazingly comfortable. The staff was wonderful
- 5/5
Incredible location, exceptional service, beautiful hotel. Restaurant was impressive!
- 5/5
Great stay. Super quiet, clean, and conveniently near everything.
- 5/5
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and very comfortable I wish we stayed longer.
- 5/5
Wonderful breakfast, interiors and staff. Recommended!
- 5/5
Excellent facility and location. Beautiful room and great restaurant.
- 4.5/5
This hotel is located within a 15-minute walk from shopping, restaurants and most attractions in the city. We rarely needed a Taxi or Uber for transpiration unless we were running late fora dinner reservation. Both onsite restaurants and bar were convenient with excellent food, drinks and service. Not the hotels' fault but it is located at the intersection of 2 busy streets so there was a lot of noise from traffic and partiers until around 11:30 each night.
- 2/5
Was not happy woth our room we paid over $1000 a night and did not have a double sink no refrigerator or tea pot and room had a musty smell !
- 3/5
Amenities and property do not live up to the Relais & Chateau designation.
- 5/5
Our stay at the hotel was great! The location is perfect for shopping and eating. The City Market is steps away along with being close to King Street and Meeting street. The waterfront with Battery Park are just a simple walk. The hotel was clean with spacious rooms and a friendly staff. We will definitely being staying here again!
- 5/5
Beautiful luxury hotel in the perfect location. Wakabity score10+! The staff were extremely welcoming and gracious throughout our stay mirroring the Southern hospitality of the propery. Would have loved to have more variety for breakfast entree options. Overall a lovely stay in a beautiful city. We will be back to Planters Inn on our next trip to Charleston
- 5/5
Loved Planter's Inn, highly recommend.
- 5/5
We would go back!
- 5/5
Wonderful as always.
- 5/5
Staff was wonderful extremely polite helpful and had wonderful suggestions for the area
- 5/5
Clean room and friendly staff!
- 5/5

Great location. Can’t say enough how happy we were with our stay . Very friendly and helpful and welcoming. Super clean and safe
- 5/5
.
- 4/5
Great location.
- 5/5
Staff was most accommodating. Very comfortable and enjoyable getaway
- 3/5
Room is dated. We booked Planters Inn because we wanted Old Charleston experience. We value and understand furniture will be period specific. However, property need to be updated. Property needs a good cleaning and updating while maintaining old Charleston feel. Furniture has stains, rooms need to be painted, bathroom lights and fixtures were dirty, caulk in bathroom was missing or moldy. For $500 a night we expected more.
- 5/5
Walking distance to tours. Lots of eateries.beautiful weather in late March
- 4/5
Location, size of room, quiet Room was not cleaned one day. Noise from outdoor wedding one night Decorating somewhat tired. No evening doorman.
- 4/5
Room and stay was excellent. Tv in the room did not work well and there was a lack of charging outlets in our room
- 5/5
Great location and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend to others!
- 5/5
Great location, breakfast, and within walking distance of many shops and restaurants….very charming.
- 5/5
Having the bake/coffee shop right there is very nice. Older building, but nice big room with plenty of space. Very convenient location. Parking valet is very prompt.
- 5/5
Everything was great!
- 4/5
We stayed in room 209 and found that the heating/ac runs continuously even though it is set on “auto” and we set the temp on 70F. Staff were very pleasant and accommodating.
- 5/5
Great location; very walkable!
- 3.5/5
Staff was wonderful. Location good. This should not be ranked a Relais Chateau. Room is very dated, needs renovation.
- 5/5
It’s a lovely Inn that’s centrally located, with a lot of charm, and wonderful staff.
- 3/5
We had a large corner room street side. The hotel itself is quite beautiful. The furnishing in our room were definitely worn, the curtains aren’t blackout and didn’t close well so the room was very bright! The mattress was so worn it had a huge hump is the middle. The noise because of the street made sleeping impossible. I read reviews on this after I booked, called to request a courtyard view but they were all taken. Probably would not stay there again.
- 5/5
Awesome room - loved the furnishings and was very clean. Staff was great and great location!
- 5/5
Staff great. Housekeeping wonderful
- 5/5
It was we were the most important people there. From the greeting at the desk to the help withe luggage. Stepping into our room was like a dream. So classic and classy. Elegant and big. Everything was thought of. From the personal note/thank you to the bottle of champagne and delicious coconut cake. Fantastic is an understatement. Can't wait to get back here.
- 5/5
It was our first time visiting Charleston and I'm so glad we chose this hotel. It was beautifully appointed and perfectly located to explore all of the city's charm. Our room was classic, comfortable and I would even say "fancy." Even though it had classic styling it also felt quite modern and extremely clean and well-lit, particularly the bathroom. The room was quite spacious and we were just in a standard King. My only comment is that the room was a bit noisy as it overlooked the street right by the market, so delivery vehicles or larger trucks would come down the street noisily quite early in the morning, but it wasn't overly distracting. The staff at this property was so nice and accommodating and I would recommend it to anyone.
- 5/5
Clean place and very nice staff.
- 5/5
Staff was lovely. Property is charming. Great location.
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
Amazing-as always!
- 3/5
First impression was very friendly and efficient, however the follow up was not as I’d hoped. Very disappointed . Overpriced for the actual experience:(
- 5/5
Everything about our stay was perfect. The rooms were quiet. The bed was comfortable. Great water pressure in the shower. Every inch of the property was absolutely beautiful !
- 4/5
Very expensive, but in a very convenient location for the price, I was a little amazed to see peeled, painting, and chips by the elevator.
- 4.5/5
Location can’t be beat TV was dated. No online guide
- 5/5
Great area to access restaurants and shopping.
- 4/5
Clean
- 2/5
Location and the food in Pennisula Grill Did not provide as advertised. The porch was a concrete slab with a knee wall that over looks roofs. Fireplace did not work. Stuck in elevator.
- 4/5
The room was lovely, and the staff great. The one drawback was that our room had a fire alert over the bed which gave a bright green light as we were in bed. I believe the property will have some upgrades in the near future and hope the light will be somewhere else.
- 5/5
Planters Inn was an excellent hotel! The staff was friendly and will go out of their way to help you with anything you need. Our room was kept clean and always stocked with water. Room was beautiful, bathroom was wonderful as well. I have no complaints, everything was just perfect! The Inn is also central to absolutely everything. Anything we wanted to do was a short walk away. Definitely book Planters if you want to be in the middle of everything fun!
- 3.5/5
Bed was so uncomfortable I ended up with very bad back pain
- 5/5
Beautiful property in a great location. Our room opened out to a large balcony overlooking the garden/courtyard where we enjoyed our morning coffee to the sounds of water and birds every morning. We walked almost everywhere, but also used the free shuttle.
- 5/5
Right across from the old market. Very close to everything including bars and restaurants.
- 5/5
We really enjoyed our stay here. Rooms were big, cozy and clean. Quiet and dark at night for great sleep. The Peninsula Grill was one of the best meals we had in the entire trip. The staff was attentive and always willing to go above and beyond. The lobby/sitting room was our favorite spot to rest in between sight seeing. Directly across the street from the market and a few steps from King St and a Target! Will be back!
- 5/5
Highly recommend Planters Inn!
- 5/5
Loved the location
- 5/5
It was a beautiful property
- 5/5
The room was meticulously clean. The staff was friendly and the location of this hotel was amazing.
- 5/5
Beautifully appointed room, helpful stsff
- 5/5
The sStaff were delightful, very knowledgeable and helpful. Room was spacious and very comfortable. Not crazy about the location but the building was really quiet.
- 5/5
Service was excellent
- 3/5
The room was very musty and it smell like mold.
- 5/5
Courteous staff. Great location. Very nice room
- 5/5
Incredible staff!
- 5/5
We were welcomed with a complimentary glass of wine which was very nice and unexpected. Front desk staff when checking in were lovely. We loved the Peninsula Grill which is the hotel’s restaurant. Quite the dining experience. We also over Benne’s, which was the cafe right next door owned by Peninsula Grill. Great for special coffees and bakery items. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
- 5/5
Everything was great! The only thing that wasn't perfect was the tv sucked. It was extremely slow and laggy. But other than that everything was great.
- 5/5
Room spotless, staff fantastic. Excellent location. Couteous, kind always willing to help.
- 5/5
We had a wonderful stay at the Planters Inn!Everything was just perfect. We loved the modern bathroom and the “old money” vibe bedroom. We enjoyed the food at the Peninsula Grill too.
- 5/5
From the moment we arrived the place was spotless and we were also treated kindly.
- 3/5
the beds and pillows were extremely uncomfortable.
- 4/5
Helpful staff, really great people
- 5/5
very clean room, courteous staff
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel. Great location. Awesome restaurant at the hotel Peninsula Grill
- 5/5
This is an elegant hotel with an old world feeling right in old town Charleston across from the market place. The Grill on the first floor is a first class restaurant you will not want to miss. The Staff members -Sarvesh, Tommy and Tristan were courteous and so helpful. Thank you all for making my stay a memorable one and I will be returning.
- 2/5
Was not greeted by anyone when we arrived and had to manage heavy luggage on our own. We did not receive the room that we reserved. We were then assigned a room that was next to a very loud busy street with no refrigerator. The staff were less than friendly. We expected much more from this expensive hotel. It is historically old but not in a good way.
- 5/5
So elegant and beautiful. The service was impeccable! Nothing! Everything was superb!
- 4/5
Clean, beautiful, and friendly staff
- 5/5
Great location. Comfortable room. Amazing shower. Friendly and helpful staff. Nothing!
- 5/5
Excellent stay at this very centrally located hotel.
- 2.5/5
Great southern feel to the property. Bed was super comfortable and slept well. Parking sucked but that’s downtown Charleston. Unauthorized authorization “holds” on card that property never could substantiate. I had to call corporate days later to have them investigate before the incorrect hold would be released. A total of $1460 was “held” and out of my account for a $582 total stay. And the property still wanted the $582 to check out. A total of $2000 taken out of an account at one time for a $582 stay is ridiculous and never was an apology given by the manager that an unauthorized hold of $782 was done to begin with. It made for a financially stressful trip and only got my stressful once I got home to a winter storm and had to straighten out finances and contact corporate to rectify things.
- 5/5
Perfect all around
- 4/5
Staff was very helpful, nice outdoor garden, convenient location, nice cafe
- 4/5
I am docking one star because I arrived early and was told I had to wait until my room was ready (which is fine) but after a couple of hours I heard the front desk checking someone else in and upgrading them to a room that was ready. They did not offer me the same curtesy.
- 5/5
Clean room, staff, good balance between historic and modern amenities
- 5/5
Great Room and Staff
- 5/5
There were many shopping areas to browse through within walking distance.
- 3/5
The music from the dining room at night and in the morning can be heard from my room. Very annoying!
- 4/5
The room and hotel is beautiful and perfect location. Factor in $50 a night for parking when evaluating price point. Was frustrated that lukewarm coffee and tea water was served every day in lobby (mentioned it 6 times to the main desk) but it was never addressed.
- 5/5
Roooms were cool vintage charleston vibes. Hotel was nice and bathrooms were clean and updated. Parking isnt great and just ended up doing valet.
- 5/5
Great location and exemplary service
- 5/5
Amazing all around!!!
- 5/5
Very hospitable and charming. The staff is SUPERB!
- 5/5
Excellent service. Very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and welcoming.
- 5/5
Everything perfect
- 5/5
Staff were amazing.
- 5/5
Everything was absolutely exceptional! Korey and Kathleen at Peninsula Grill made the experience fantastic. Liam checked on us every day and I could not ask for a better experience. We will be back in May and will not stay anywhere else but here. Can’t wait until May!
- 5/5
Hotel very charming. Dinner was spectacular both in terms of menu, service and ambiance. Highly recommend

We have been wanting to stay at the planters inn for years. It’s a great location and a wonderful inn. We stayed in the Governors suite which was very lovely. It was very quiet and cozy and we are looking forward to returning.
- 5/5
Great staff, quiet and comfortable room, great bathroom, convenient location to dining, shopping and museums. Excellent breakfast.

It was a perfect stay. Great Location and room was incredible!
- 5/5
Everything about our stay was wonderful although the fireplace in the room wasn’t working.
- 5/5
The location was very convenient
- 5/5
Great hotel, perfect location to walk to shopping, restaurants
- 5/5
The hotel is a older hotel, but maintained well, I ate in the bar. Korey was great.
- 3/5
Everything was beautiful except that the choice of artwork was tone deaf for persons of color. I stayed in room 231. Picture by the front door was of an enslaved person. This did not make me feel warm and cozy
- 5/5
Spacious rooms, great location.
- 5/5
Best Christmas breakfast ever!!!!
- 5/5
We just mentioned to the Belman that we were there for our 40th anniversary didn’t tell anyone else they had a big slice of cake some sparkling wine in our room waiting when we got there that fast it was so nice.
- 5/5
Lovely, centrally-located, historic hotel with excellent service and comfort. Will definitely return.
- 5/5
Yea
- 5/5
Did not have breakfast
- 5/5
Great overall
- 5/5
We got married in their courtyard. Our room was beautiful we had a nice sitting room as well as separate bedroom. We had dinner at the Pennisula Grill. All the staff knew that we were just married and treated us like royalty! We could not have been any happier with the total experience!
- 5/5
Peninsula grill on property has amazing dinner and coconut cake is epic
- 5/5
We were shown two rooms that had an overwhelming musty smell ie mold, and were upgraded to a new room in a different newer building which was very nice. I would be hesitant to stay in the older sick building.
- 5/5
Staff was great, rooms were clean but a little outdated.
- 5/5
All great!
- 5/5
Room was spotless , staff nice and professional
- 5/5
Amazing, I was very impressed!
- 5/5
Beautiful old hotel. Excellent location & service. Quiet room.
- 5/5
Great location. The room was impressive, the bed was very comfortable.
- 5/5
Yes and yes
- 5/5
This was our second time staying here and every staff member was incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms are always very clean and we always enjoy the breakfast there.
- 5/5
Spotless room, great staff.
- 5/5
Such a perfect location! All the staff were friendly and helpful.
- 4/5
Clean Room and Lots of Space
- 5/5
Excellent service at the front desk. Friendly and professional.
- 5/5
The hotel itself, as well as our guest room, was spotless! This was a prime location...super convenient to the City Market and for shopping on King Street. The restaurant, Peninsula Grill, was amazing!
- 3/5
The room was just “okay.” For the price per night, we felt it should’ve had a small fridge and a small microwave. The A/C unit was noisy. And the breakfast we had at the restaurant (omelet) was dry and disappointing. The TV was also small and not much offered for channels.
- 5/5
lovely property and staff. Highly recommend. We'll be going back!
- 5/5
Beautiful room and service. Exceeeded expectations
- 5/5
Excellent all around
- 5/5
Staff was excellent, beds were so comfy, great location
- 5/5
Great service
- 1/5
The hotel is in a prime location, which is very convenient. While the rooms themselves are beautifully designed, the overall cleanliness was disappointing. The furniture and bedding had visible stains, and the property appeared quite outdated. With better upkeep and attention to cleanliness, this hotel could truly live up to its potential.
- 5/5
Generous and well furnished suite - a wonderful place to return to after days exploring the sights and history of Charleston.
- 5/5
The room was wonderfully decorated and large. The staff were courteous and helpful. The location was Ideal and the restaurant food was excellent.
- 4/5
A fabulous location! I appreciated the historic value of the hotel and did not expect 2025 amenities. However, I felt extremely vulnerable and unsafe in the shower. It desperately needs to have grab bars installed and needs to be painted with a non-slip coating. I slipped more than once, and only the showerhead saved me from falling. Also, there needs to be something to hold onto as you enter the steps into the hotel from Market Street. I know historical is extremely limiting, but there should be some way to steady and uneven entrance.
- 4/5
They should not charge for breakfast
- 5/5
For a older property it well maintained. I get treated very well when staying there....the restaurant is great, atmosphere as well....
- 5/5
Charming old world hotel in the heart of old Charleston
- 5/5
Housekeeping was superb! The mattress provided a great nights sleep - so good I texted the hotel to find the brand.
- 4/5
Room was clean and staff courteous
- 5/5
The Christmans
- 5/5
The most comfortable bed ever! The hotel is old, but beautiful! There was a wedding, which made the music outside very loud pretty late into the evening.
- 5/5
Hotel staff were always available and accommodating. Excellent service in all respects.
- 5/5
Excellent location and staff
- 5/5
We stayed in a garden courtyard suite and it was lovely. Extremely spacious, great decor. The location of Planters was absolutely perfect ! We were able to walk to everything around the city.
- 5/5
Great property at a wonderful location.
- 5/5
Wonderful staff, beautiful rooms and great stay
- 3/5
Not up to Relais & Chateaux standards. Great staff but the entire hotel needs a facelift. Minimum they need to figure out how to get rid of the musty smell
- 5/5
Our stay was wonderful! Excellent service from all staff members! Our first trip to Charleston and we will definitely be back!
- 5/5
The staff accommodated all of our needs quickly and very good quality. Wrum was excellent. I wish the Wi-Fi was better just so that the TV reception in the room was not as splotchy. Overall, super experience.
- 5/5
Excellent service. Central location.
- 5/5
Beautiful Inn with friendly staff and elevated amenities. In middle of historic disdustrictactihistoric
- 4/5
Concierge could have been more available
- 5/5
Friendly staff and clean
- 5/5
Loved the room and the courtyard
- 5/5
The hotel was wonderful. Such a nice southern experience. The coffee and water available around the clock at no charge is such a nice touch. The location is perfect. We’ll be back!
- 5/5
Beautiful, centrally located hotel in the heart of Old Charleston. First class in every respect.
- 5/5
Beautiful property and amazing staff !!
- 5/5
Amazing!!
- 5/5
Excellent hospitality! Wonderful location..
- 5/5
Very accommodating
- 5/5
Great place to stay!
- 5/5
Furnishings in room look somewhat tired. Drapes were dingy.
- 4/5
Hair on bath floors and building smelled musty…
- 5/5
Close to everything. Try the coconut cake! Best I have ever had.
- 5/5
I wish there were a gym in the building and perhaps a business office with good wifi, for those who want to work out and do business.
- 4/5
We recently stayed at this charming hotel in downtown Charleston and was impressed by its prime location, perfect for exploring the city’s historic charm. The hotel itself is clean, well-maintained, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, making the stay pleasant. However, my experience was tainted by a strong, musty smell in the room that was quite overpowering. Unfortunately, the odor lingered on my clothes even after returning home, which was a significant downside. While the hotel has a lot going for it, addressing this issue would make a big difference for future guests.
- 5/5
Beautiful
- 3/5
This is a beautiful historic building . We enjoyed a delicious dinner at their adjacent Grille restaurant with a very attentive staff. However, I booked a double queen bed room for two nights over Expedia.Once at the hotel I was charged $700 for the second night which wasn’t written anywhere on my prior booking. This room and the service ( no breakfast included ) is not worth $700 . The room was very dark, one tiny window which you can’t open and a blasting AC . We were freezing the second night because there was no way to control the AC. All in all the room was clean and comfy bed but not worth $700. I can get excellent service for that money
- 5/5
Beautiful room with gorgeous furnishings and a comfortable bed. Right in the middle of historic Charleston lots of great shopping on King street. Close to College of Charleston.
- 5/5
Clean room, helpful staff, nearby shopping.
- 5/5
We also had an amazing dinner at the on site restaurant.
- 5/5
Beautiful Hotel that embodied the spirit and charm of Charleston. The hotel is in the heart of downtown and walking distance to great shopping and restaurants. I can't wait to book our next stay at the Planters Inn
- 5/5
Great location and great hotel
- 5/5
Great location for experiencing Charleston Old Town.

Restaurant was wonderful. Room smelled musty but very clean. Beautiful hotel! Right in center of everything. Don’t need a rental car!
- 5/5
The only thing that we didn’t like was mold in the shower.
- 5/5
One of the oldest boutique hotels. Antiques were everywhere and I was in heaven
- 5/5
Very nice staff. Clean room.
- 5/5
The rooms are spacious and very clean. The staff exhibits true southern hospitality.
- 5/5
They have valet parking. The restaurant, Peninsula Grille is phenomenal. The coconut cake is to die for. We will be back.
- 4/5
It was okay!
- 5/5
The only thing that needed an upgrade was their tv - it was too small for the room and no Netflix etc available. The hotel has an excellent location too, walkable to the waterfront and kings street etc
- 4/5
A historic hotel but needs an update. The hotel smelled of mildew in the hallway and had ongoing repairs to the ceiling. The lavatory at one point stopped working as well. The staff was professional and the location is perfect to the areas of the old town historical district. The price of the hotel is deserving of better upkeep but I would still recommend it given its location and that the room was clean and spacious.

Lovely property
- 5/5
Great property. Will stay again
- 5/5
Pictures of the room didn’t do it justice. Stay was great!
- 5/5
Property is clean, well run and perfect location.

This was a dream stay. The level of attention from the staff was outstanding. The room (suite) was large, comfortable and immaculate. Dinner at the Planters Grill was a very special treat. Our 2 night stay was memorable for all the right reasons.
- 5/5
Planters Inn was SO nice and I would highly recommend for anyone looking to stay in downtown Charleston. The rooms are large and spacious, unique, charming, and the beds are super comfy. The hotel staff was very helpful and it's within walking distance of King Street, French Quarter and all the historic sights around Charleston!
- 5/5
Staff was very attentive to any and all needs during stay and the location was perfect for all downtown activities.
- 4/5
Spacious and well appointed room included coffee maker, robes and slippers. Excellent housekeeping, courteous and attentive staff.
- 4/5
One of the best features of this property was the location. It is located in the French Quarter and convenient to everything. The staff was very professional and the room was extremely clean! The only downsides to our stay was the building needs some updating. The lobby and front desk had a strong musty, moldy smell. Upon looking up at the ceiling, I could see that the vents were dripping water and puddled on the floor. The humidity in Charleston is oppressive and if air conditioning systems are not equipped to handle high temperatures mold and mildew will result in unhealthy conditions for occupants. I know this from living in Florida during the summer months. Also, the ads for this hotel feature the teddy bears on the beds of the room and state that they are available for sale at the front desk. We were told that none are available for sale and the marketing will be changed in the future. This is a disappointment to guests and I feel that the ads and website should reflect these changes. The bears are a wonderful marketing idea but should be removed from ads for the hotel and from the rooms.

Great property and staff. Love the location and safety of the area. Only down side is the bathroom could use better lighting, and a couple of bulbs were burned out

If you like modern feeling hotels is your thing, this is not your hotel. But if you want to feel like you stepped into a historic and luxurious southern mansion that’s perfectly located in Charleston, this hotel is for you. Would definitely book again.

Lovely boutique hotel. Perfect location for walking everywhere in the city!
- 5/5
The hotel is in a good location for the southern peninsula surrounded by excellent shopping on Kings St and wrapped with excellent restaurants. Hotel staff is friendly and accomodating.

Beautiful Property very accommodating excellent staff all the way around. We have already rebooked a stay in three weeks.
- 5/5
We loved our stay at Planters Inn! Could not be in a better location— so central with tons of restaurants and shopping close by. Our room was totally soundproof, no noise from outside even on a Friday night. Room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were great! We’d love to stay again!
- 5/5
I liked everything about this property
- 5/5
Very nice room with a balcony overlooking Market St ... great location in Charleston
- 5/5
Great first experience at the Planters Inn. Would recommend to my family and friends.
- 5/5
The staff was amazing, our hotel room was much larger than anticipated. It felt like a southern apartment instead of a small hotel room. We were greeted with wine when we arrived, the hotel accommodated us with a late checkout even though they were fully booked. We will definitely come back!
- 5/5
Mike, who welcomed us and took care of our bags and care, was excellant. Not only were we greeted witha smile, when asked about walkable retaurants, he hit it out of the park with his suggestions. Excellent way to start our stay!
- 5/5
Very nice room and property
- 5/5
Great location, beautiful courtyard, excellent food, and outstanding service. The only problem was that the room was right above the road and had a bunch of street noise.
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and accomodating. The Inn was well appointed.
- 4/5
The gardens and beautiful lobby bathroom
- 5/5
My husband and I just returned from 4 nights at Planter’s Inn. The historic charm of the property delivered on our expectations of traditional southern hospitality. The location was perfect for easy access to the water as well as historic points of interest. The staff was polite and helpful. We can’t wait to go back!
- 5/5
amazing location and hotel. staff friendly and helpful. highly reccomended
- 5/5
Great hotel in unbeatable location. A charming large room. Excellent service and good dining options nearby
- 4/5
Planters Inn is a lovely property, with friendly staff and high-quality furnishings. The location is perfect, as it's walkable to all of historic Charleston and most restaurants. To me, though, it's strange that such a premiere hotel would not have an onsite fitness facility, and the gym they have a relationship with is 1.6 miles away. Also, the room cleaning schedule is odd - it seems if you miss the window, the room is not cleaned. They do have turndown service, so someone does come by and freshen the room if the cleaning window is missed. Finally, beware of which room you choose. We were in a suite that only had one window and no window in the bedroom. I'm sure this is simply a unique limitation of a historic property, but I would request a different arrangement in the future. Overall, this is a great place, with minor flaws.

Wonderfully unique property with exceptional staff
- 5/5
Nice hotel
- 5/5
Exceeded our expectations!
- 4/5
A charming hotel right in the midst of it all. The rooms were lovely with great amenities. The hotel lacks extras when compared to the larger ones - a gym, a cocktail lounge, etc. the restaurant is not open for lunch and while the concierge was great when we saw her, there was often no one at the desk and the front desk staff were less informed. Overall we liked the Inn quite a bit but will probably try something else next time.
- 5/5
It could not have been better. A real top-notch hotel with wonderful room, restaurants, and terrific location. Staff was all great, too. One of our best experiences anywhere in the world!!
- 5/5
This is a beautiful property in a great location. We were upgraded to a wonderful two bedroom suite free of charge. There was a bottle of “welcome” champagne waiting in our room when we arrived. We would love to come back and stay again!
- 5/5
GREAT stay and very accommodating staff made this trip truly relaxing.
- 5/5
The hotel itself has a ton of charm, the rooms are large and the beds are very comfortable. We enjoyed the snacks and drinks throughout the day located in the front area. Staff was was friendly and accommodating. Lastly, the Peninsula Grill was amazing. 10/10 hotel.
- 4/5

- 5/5
The perfect example of superb services, and excellent hotel

The Planters Inn is a beautiful place to stay while visiting Charleston. The location is right in the center of all the action but manages to create a private peaceful environment. The beautiful walkway and outdoor garden area were welcome sites after a long day of sight seeing. The rooms were beautifully decorated with period-style furnishings, and the four post bed was very comfortable. The staff was incredible from the moment we got out of our Uber straight through the moment we checked out. We will definitely be back.
- 5/5
My only wish was a mini fridge in the room. Rooms are not cheap but definitely in a great location so you can walk everywhere. The Market is at the front door and King street a block away!
- 4/5
Pros : Cute hotel and courtyard. Friendly staff. Walkable and quiet. Cons: The parking. The bed and pillows needed to be replaced.
- 3/5
Lights in bathroom weren’t all functioning and no microwave and coffee maker didn’t work
