I love the location, first and foremost! The atmosphere, restaurant, staff members, etc. were amazing as well. Already planning my next trip to Chicago and I will most definitely be staying at The Sophy!

I booked my reservation and made it into town about 12:43 AM. I asked if I could check in early and was told no which was a first for me because I normally stay at the Hilton and wherever I get into town that late they always welcome me in. I tried to cancel the reservation because I was able to secure another place to stay so I called and spoke with the manager who lied and said I needed to refer to booking.com for my refund which was false information. I called back and she had one of her employees answer the phone and put me on hold. I was on hold for about half an hour before I hung up. Horrible customer service

Great, newish property in the heart of Hyde Park. Convenient to University of Chicago, Museum of Science and Industry and Obama Center. Comfortable rooms with nice amenities. Only inconvenience was having to park a block away.

It was surprising to find that the front desk area and elevator lobby lights were completely off at night like it was shut down for the night?? Most disappointed that our room did not get cleaned our final night although we left the housekeeping light on - it was still on when we returned late that night. Just add the daily fee to the overall nightly rate and that would eliminate the ill feelings about an amenity fee.

I loved this hotel. The things that stand out to me were the design and the excellent quality of the restaurant. The rooms had a lot of cool touches that distinguish this boutique hotel from a chain and made my stay extra fun.

Room was beautifully decorated and clean. The amenities and having the restaurant on site was a big plus. The bed was so comfortable. It was hard to get up every morning. The entire staff was extremely friendly and very helpful.

Wish the gym were larger, but otherwise an excellent option in Hyde Park! Great location well maintained property.

The atmosphere at Sophy | Messler in the mornings is vastly different from the evenings. Sophy is a great hotel for an evening of posh and pampering in an immaculately prepared guest room. Messler’s Chicken and Waffles is the pinnacle of perfection! Though every in of the place is beautifully curated, the evenings in the lounge are a bit loud for my taste. Nevertheless, I would give my stay at Sophy and my dining experience at Messler’s a solid 10/10.

The staff were really friendly, and not in the performative way, but in the "yeah, we run this place and we care" way. The rooms were hip and classy. Breakfast (french toast, pancakes, chicken sausage, hash browns) was all top notch, and at a price that would feel like a reasonably-good value at a restaurant that didn't have the typical hotel markup. Almost stayed in town an extra night to eat the breakfast again.

Fantastic location near our daughter, who lives in Hyde Park. Warm, welcoming staff who accommodated an early check in for very weary travelers. Room was nice, bed comfy. Only reason for 4 stars was that the restaurant affiliated with the hotel was closed on Sunday evenings. We had a nice meal in the bar by the fireplace but the table was bar-size and didn’t have enough room for our dinner plates and appetizers. Would definitely return to the sophy for all the other pluses it offers.

Decor and ambiance are very beautiful. There were some interesting limitations however like no readily accessible microwave and ice machines limited to certain floors I was never more insulted - imagine being at a. 4+ star hotel, paying $300+ a night and having to RENT a microwave. For everything I enjoyed at this location that lack of accommodation gobsmacked me. This is the first 4 star+ hotel I’ve patronized that doesn’t have concierge service. It’s also pretty striking given that there are usually 2-3 staff members standing in the lobby. The day I checked out, I struggled getting through traffic in the lobby and eventually to the door (automated buttons weren’t working). Imagine my surprise when a staff member literally ran after me “excuse me?! Your shoes are really dope! Are those the new (X brand)?” I gave a quick thanks and proceeded with my departure.

The room was not properly cleaned. I had used napkins in the bed. When I call concierge i was told there were no staff to accommodate me. They switch my room to another dirty room. The cleanliness and staff.

Checked in late at night. Received room key that wouldn’t open the door. Went back to front desk to ask them to recode the key. Staff member made me wait 5 min until she finished her conversation with another guest. Why couldn’t she recode the key at the same time she was talking? It literally took her 5 seconds.

The rooms were very clean and nice, was disappointed that there wasn’t a bath tub. The staff was great with the exception of a staff member that worked overnight. She was extremely rude . I along with 3 other couples booked rooms for New Year’s Eve,we sat in the lobby it was very quite and nice but the staff member turned off the lights and fireplace so we were sitting in the dark. . I was so embarrassed because I encouraged my friends and their spouses to come to the hotel. I wanted to do a review with my daughter who has a huge social media following but the one employee ruined the whole experience.

No breakfast option other than room service. No coffee maker in our room and coffee maker in the lobby didn’t work for our entire stay.

This stay was AMAZING the customier service was exceptional from Chris!!!! From the phone call before I even arrived to check in!!! He was extremely hellful in assisting us to get to the hotel with all the options. After we were scared straight (lol) we rented a car, Chris knowing that help save us a couple dollars told us the best and safest way to park with all day service.. The hospitality from both Sam and Chris continued throughout the stay!! The tone of the hotel very grown and sexy!!! The room itself tremendously beautiful! (Pay attention the the art) this is a must every Chicago stay!! I’ve stayed at a lot of pricey hotels and this by far is #1! And a good price! Hopefully you all get to experience the Chris/Sam combo!! Absolutely adored them!

You always have to be on guard re the Sophy. I had a 3 night confirmed reservation and was a day late due to delays and when i arrived i was informed that my reservation had been "cancelled". They could say by who or why. It still showed as a valid reservation on my expedia account. When the expedia agent called them they casually explained that since i had not showed up by midnight of the forst day of my res, they automatically cancelled it (no call, no nothing). They promptly resold my room as it was sold out when i arrived. I had booked way early at an attractive rate so i am not aurprised they took advantage of my delay to cancel and reaell at a higher rate. The Sophy is known for these little shenanigans as i even heard form another friend who stayed there this weekend that they attempted to charge them a much higher rate upon check in than their reservation. Only after being presented with a printout of the original reservation did they honor it. The rooms are nice and it is well located for Uchicago but they shouldn't have to behave distastefully.

Loved the size of the room, the decor throughout the hotel, the record player, the staff, the cleanliness and early check-in. There was nothing I didn’t like.

The hotel is fabulous. The rooms are spacious and unexpected. I would be excited to stay at other SOPHY’s in the future.

The check-in process was smooth, and the staff were welcoming from the start. My room was clean and modern, with a comfortable bed and a fantastic city view. This is my third time staying at this hotel, Overall, the hotel exceeded my expectations. Those breakfast pancakes yummy I’d definitely recommend it to business travelers and families alike.

It was a familiar space. Not that clean & wasn’t up to par. A worker quit & walked out.

Service front desk was flawed, we wanted to extend a day and they said ok and wouldn't have to change rooms even though we booked on Expedia, and then they made us move

Poor water pressure in Shower Electrical outlets to coffee maker not functional and were not corrected when identified to staff.

The front desk lady cussed us out upon arrival.

Chris and J were amazingly helpful when we arrived and helped take care of everything including parking, so ask they might have some available. Very walkable with lots of great food and shops and music!

Ridiculous junk resort fee.

Awesome experience. Beautiful spacious room. Full access shower. Nice sofa that could have slept two more people comfortably. Nice quirk was a record player and LPs. We called down and requested more albums.

Sophy is a beautiful hotel - our room was quiet, spacious and comfortable. My only criticism is that the restaurant closed at 9:30pm and the bar closed at 9:45pm which seemed very early on a Saturday night.

Honestly it’s giving Blackness and Black Excellence and it’s everything I hoped for in a Hyde Park hotel.

What a pleasant surprise!! Our first time in the Hyde Park area and it was a hidden gem! We were here for ballgames at Rate Field and it was an easy uber ride. Would definitely stay again-and again!!!

I loved the Hyde Park neighborhood, you really will experience that in this hotel, not like a sterile downtown environment. Beautiful art everywhere in the hotel, lively restaurant, friendly staff, clean and spacious room, huge shower, can open a window!

Someone nextdoor spent hours singing and talking on a phone in the bathroom and I could here it LOUD and clear, but on the bright side at 4am staff was there quickly to address. I could have used a map or directory showing where the fitness room, ice dispensers, etc, were. Could have been one was avaliable and I was too lazy to find one but nothing was offered. And although the restaurant and lounge area were nice as far as i could tell there was nowhere to get microwave popcorn and soda late at night 😅. Probably I dont stay in enough hotels like this and vending machine are a big cheesy no no! Also would have liked a place to get a quick pastry or snack, especially in the morning, before going out. So overall, my daughter will be going to U of Chicago which was within walking distance and we were surprised and pleased with the hotel. It was upscale and beautiful for the price. There were shortcomings but we would stay here again and recommend it while mentioning the above.

Definitely, the best hotel bathroom I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing and the bed was amazingly comfortable. Room had appreciated extras such as a steamer and makeup mirror. Comfortable seating area right in the room. The only thing missing was a desk chair and do not park in front of the hotel when you were checking in, pull around to their shirt term parking lot to avoid getting a fifty dollar ticket

Was in town from Dallas for CFP and my friend and I stayed at the Sophy for the first time. The service was great from the second we arrived. From the front desk to the bar area to the dining room, the staff were polite, professional, and attentive! I will definitely stay there again when I'm back in Chicago!

I stayed here the night prior to my wedding and actually did a first look with my husband in the room the following morning. The staff was accommodating, as I left a few items at home. They provided me with what I needed without hesitation. They also took my dresses and bags to my room while I rushed out for a hair appointment. The room was clean and made the perfect backdrop for intimate photos between us two.

Very clean, Friendly staff. Nice location . Did not like that in order to turn the bathroom light on, the main bedroom light also had to be on at the same time. This was difficult for middle of the night runs to the bathroom.

Hotel and staff are great. Really appreciate folks who pay attention to every last detail. Completely polar opposite to most interactions I experienced in Chicago (my hometown). I’d seriously recommend this property to anyone interested in staying in Hyde Park. Only downside (through no fault of the hotels) is the price of Ubers to get downtown and north. But proximity to Metra is definitely a plus. Starbucks and Harold’s Chicken within walking distance, top shelf property in my book.

The staff is very nice and helpful. They let us stay around for work in the lobby after we checked out. The area does not seem to have a lot of dining options. The traffic to the airport is so congested but overall this property is very nice in this area if you wanted to visit university of Chicago

Unfortunately, once I arrived, my stay was just a non-stop series of errors, resulting in a terrible experience and additional charges that were almost impossible to get fixed. I will make sure that everyone that I know in Chicago stops recommending this hotel.

The property was beautiful and comfortable. Lots of nice art. The lobby bar and dining area was nice. The shower had standing water and bathroom had a mild sewage smell. The TV did was a direct TV and I prefer a smart TV...but it worked out because I watched a movie that I would not have seen otherwise. The gym was surprisingly underwhelming. The amenity book says they have a shuttle; however I learned it was not the hotel's shuttle but the University. Overall it was convenient, clean, and nice. I would definitely return.

The hotel is generally very nice, but we were disappointed with a few aspects of the service at our last stay. We were put in a room near the gym, which is open 24/7. We could hear people running on the treadmill late into the night, which was disruptive, and the hotel was unwilling to do anything about it or offer another room. It also took over an hour for them to send up sheets for the sofa bed when we first arrived (at night), which is not expected at a hotel in this price range.

This stay was absolutely amazing! We love all the details. The room was immaculate, Messler is a must try. The staff were all professional. We will be back for a a 2 night stay.

Experience was good. The room and hotel decor is great. Very clean, even after I wiped everything down. The only thing I didn't enjoy was when I ordered food from Uber. They accepted my order at the lobby and didn't communicate that they had my order. Just left my food sitting there. Otherwise, 10/10

This was a staycation to celebrate my 64th birthday. The staff gave me two complimentary glasses of a drink of my choice and made provisions for me to park in the lot adjacent to the hotel.

Beautifully arranged and detailed with fantastic attention to the guests. There is nothing they didn't take care of, and always with a smile. The restaurant in the hotel was fabulous and well-attended, with great food and service. That is not always the case in hotels.

Its was nice. The couch had some worn down areas and the toilet seat needs to be replaced but nothing worth complaining about. This was my 2nd stay. The 1st time the room was nicer, but I also booked directly that time so maybe i got a 3rd party booking room
