First, what I will say is the staff was very nice and did with what they could. Our room's a/c was broken, but they offered fans, no problem. Our shower water was cold most of the time. The feature to plug the tub to draw a bath was not working. One of our towels was dirty on arrival, when I went to ask for an extra, I was told that they were not left with any clean towels for the day. Our hotel keys were demagnetized several times. The sheets had hairs/ dust. I appreciated the available parking. For the price, I could have probably stayed somewhere with better amenities. For a solo traveler staying for a night, maybe two I think this would fare well.

The staff was so helpful! They brought is extra towels and a roll away to make our stay more confortable. The hotel was a bit older and didn't have a working blow dryer, but very responsable for the cost.

The room was somewhat clean. Acceptable for me. The towels were not clean brown spots on them. The refrigerator froze all of my food. Air-conditioning worked well. And overall, I felt it was worth the money. Close to some good restaurants and not too far away from the beach.

Our room smelled horrible, I let the front desk staff know and requested a new room. He informed me they were sold out and then gave me a can of air freshener.

The key didn’t work most of the time, we had to keep going back to the office for it to be activated. There were roaches in the bathroom. The towels were stained. The WiFi didn’t work well.

the bathtub toilet were not cleaned properly at all. Cleanliness should be a basic standard for any hotel, and this property failed badly in that area. I was so uncomfortable with the condition of the bathroom that I did not even feel comfortable taking a bath during my entire three-night stay. In addition, the noise was very disturbing. There were groups of people walking upstairs late at night making loud noises, and the hotel management did not seem to regulate or control the situation. It made it very difficult to rest comfortably. The only positive aspect was the convenient location. There were plenty of nearby parking spaces, grocery stores close by, and most places around the Newport Beach area were only a quick 5–10 minute drive away. The hotel seriously needs to deep clean the rooms and improve noise control before checking in new guests.

Barely ok, while not expecting luxury at the price it was worse than other motels we have stayed at in the area at that rate. Everything was old and in need of sprucing up. The flooring was damaged in places, the wall AC unit was old and needed the filter replaced. The attendants respond through a pass through slot in the door, you can't enter the lobby 9not that you are missing out) but it makes you feel like you are in a weird neighborhood standing in the drive-through archway. The surrounding are is NOT deprecit.

I would highly recommend staying here. Its nothing fancy but its got comfortable beds, maybe bring your own pillows as theirs were flat but besides that no complaints.

The male front desk staff were very responsive and helpful. The female not so much. It was a good location for us. It was between the 2 places we needed to be. It could have been cleaner.

Daily housekeeping

It was a little run down. The room was a good size but the ceiling had stains and the bed sheets had holes in them. The hot water took forever to come on. They also had people living in some of their units and also sleeping in their cars in from for the rooms. Made us feel a little unsafe. You couldn’t go in the lobby area. You had to go to a window. I should have paid in little more to stay at another hotel.

The property was located in a very sketchy part of town. The office was not opened. There was a filthy window to conduct business through. The Employee was wearing a mask. There was no coffee pot in room. I killed a bug crawling on the floor and didn't know what it was until after checking out I found bites on my leg and realized it was bed bug bites. What an awful place. It looked like homeless people were residing there. It also looked like drug deals were going on. People coming and going all hours of the night. Lousy, nasty place!

To start, the bathroom had multiple issues - the bath curtain had mold and multiple stains on the bottom, the shower couldn’t hold its temperature and would switch from cold to hot every ten seconds, and all of the towels had stains. The bed’s sheets had multiple holes, they looked like they had been burned into the sheet, and the pillows were very thin. The ceiling above the bed had several oily yellow/brown marks. AC was nice. The room didn’t appear to be fully clean as there was dust/stickiness on some surfaces and marks on the mirrors. This area is loud due to it being on a busy street but we couldn’t hear a lot from the people around us. Parking was less than ideal but that is not the hotels fault, other guests would take up multiple spots.

It was an easy check in and check out. The air conditioner worked but got real cold, when turned off the room got warm, so we kept it on and made sure to cover up. Overall it was a nice peaceful stay.

Run down rooms have nothing good about this place, and they chage the same rate as the hilt, gust go to a hilto, this place has homeless ride bikes in and out all night log.no matter what your rate will be its not wirth

The floor was filthy, the sheets had a 2 foot rip in the corner that should have been obvious to whoever made the bed. The bathroom door had obviously been punched in a few places and just spackled over. The shower curtain had pink stains on it and a spot that looked like someone wrote their name with a pen. I ordered 2 queen beds and was not informed that the room had a special door that was a small room with the second bed. If I wouldn't have called to ask about only getting one bed, I would not have been informed. The bathrrom andd bedroom room had a doorknob where you poke the center to unlock it from the outside. The curtain was see-through. The fridge was dirty inside so we washed it. I used their shampoo and a few towels to wash their dang floor that was leaving our feet black, which was transferring to the bed when we would sit. Washing me and my kid's feet left a bunch of black gunk in the sink, which was gross. I told the front desk and he said since I was only there for one night and housekeeping already left, then oh well. So oh well, now you have two black towels and you're welcome for the floor finally being washed.

I really liked it overall. comfy beds, great staff, AC worked good and everything was clean. It does smell like cigarettes but that’s the only complaint i have.

The room was fairly clean, but needed some repairs. The most glaring issue was that they It was missing any kind of privacy latch, and the deadbolt would not latch properly.

We checked in late. It's strange that the front desk is not open. Not even during regular hours. The lady who checked us in had no hospitality. People were coming & going at 11pm. Sketchy! My friend & check in. She takes both of our credit cards but charged my card twice for both rooms. I figured maybe it's a mistake. I'll wait until it clears. We go to check into our room & the key card don't work. I tried both cards multiple times. I go back to the office, she resets & says try again. I do, still don't work. She comes up the stairs & says the lock probably needs to reset. We unload & leave for dinner. We come back & there is still people out. People with backpacks, look like they are sneaking around, etc. Again, my key don't work. I had to ask the front desk guy to open my door. We are ready for bed & there's knocking next door, more people with backpacks. At this time, I can't sleep thinking about the what ifs. Around 3am, I wake my husband up because I think I hear gun shots. He said it's fireworks. I think he was trying to calm my nerves. I am exhausted the next morning. Didn't feel safe to get a good night's rest. As I go to check out I tell the front desk window, I have 2 charges on my card. He said you were only charged for 1 night on our end. To call my bank to deal with it. I get a receipt and leave. I call the front desk on Tuesday because both charges cleared my account. They said both rooms were charged & I have to get the $ from my friend. SMH. Don't recommend!!

Parking was iffy as there was drunks walking down the street as it was right next to a liquor store. And God forbid you wanna cook something in the microwave, someone had cooked something very bad like plastic inside it. Yeah I don’t recommend it. I know how to pinch penny's, but not this cheap. I really enjoy staying at this property and am so blessed for the entire package and all the staff is top tier but I have to give a special shout out to Jason he is the best he is very genuine very helpful and I appreciate him so much I look forward to his shift because I know everything will run smoothly and it will be safe and drama free while he is here and if I need anything I can ask him and he never makes me feel like I am imposing or that it inconvenient for him and that is how hospitality should be done thank you sunset int owners and staff for making this place home to some of us it is a nice change

Upon arriving you notice homless hanging around. Then there is no lobby to enter only a window with enough space to slide papers and cards thru.. but the worst part was the room. I was supposed to have a nonsmoking room but even before entering the room it reaked of cigarettes and it was worse in the room. So there was body hair all over the sheets, the fridge was filthy and falling apart, there was a gap at the door as if someone had broken into it before, the shower shelves were missing so there was holes in the wall along with so much rust through the bathroom.. then I was greeted with roaches… so as I was sitting in my car looking for the next hotel I noticed a car missing every tire so it was resting on bricks.. oh and then the dogs barking the entire time 😒😒😒 it was seriously the motel from hell. Do not go here!!! Very Farley advertised..

The room had a stale cigarette smell. The curtains were very see-through so they didn’t block out the light and I could be seen from the outside of the room so I tried to be in there without any light especially at night. If I need to light, I would turn on the bathroom light and close the door as much as possible to still be able to see, but not allowing people to see in. I’ll be there are some full-time residence there so let’s see if people loitering around. I was on the first floor and could hear everything going on in the room above me. At all hours of the night. Needless to say I got a little sleep both nights.

I booked here for the free parking and no pet fees. I wasn't expecting much. The bathroom fixtures are ancient and falling apart. The hot water didn't work in the sink(unless you play with it. I got it to work a few times) The towels are super old with old stains that you can see in the light. The guy in the unit below me offered to sell me drugs twice. It looked like he was living and selling out of his room. I saw several people come and go and I wasn't even there much. Sketchy place!!

Then there were two of us (we only had two bath towels)! We asked the maid for more; she called the manager; the manager came and bothered us while we were in our room, and told us we don't do that! My goodness, you have our $50 deposit . . . but who really wants to keep those flimsy towels. WON'T BE A GUEST HERE AGAIN! No Way!

They are cheap and nasty people. The housekeeping ladies are nice but over worked and under paid. They hire kids to check you in and worthless. A lot of homeless and drunks staying there. I have travel the world but this was the worst I have ever experienced.

We waited for the cleaning ladies to come out from cleaning the room, and then we went in. It smelled so strongly of urine that we immediately walked back out. They offered to clean the room for us again, but I wanted no part of staying there. They said that they didn’t have any other rooms for us. We left and happily stayed at the OG hotel.

No coffee… Thin walls. Had to stand outside behind a plexiglass window to check in, in a not so good part of the with (drugged riding their bicycles through the parking lot and hanging out just up the sidewalk). Other than that, comfortable bed.

I do not mind staying in an older place that is clean but this room was very dirty! The air conditioning unit was full of dust, the floor was filthy & the sheets had been slept in & left dirty. I have never experienced this anywhere before & hope to never have it happen again.

This was obviously a nice property in its day. However we booked a room for five, but the room had only two double beds, and the staff member did not offer to help us any further, but simply said we could cancel and go elsewhere. The shower ran hot only briefly, so most of us had cold showers. Most of the lights did not work. The floor was filthy - our feet were black after walking on it barefoot.

Our room had a lot of mold and smelled bad, the shower was also moldy and had cockroaches, and the breakfast they offer, they don't give it. The truth is, it was a nightmare to stay there. I don't recommend anyone stay in that so-called hotel.

The room looked nice but the tv remote was not working and more importantly the Air Conditioning was not working. We asked a couple of people that were also staying there and their AC was also non functioning. It's July and very warm. A non functioning AC is absolutely horrible. Also they lied about having a continental breakfast. None. Totally false advertising. Will never stay at The Sunset in again. Don't get fooled by the pictures.

At checkin our room was not clean. The floor was so dirty the bottom of my feet were black just from walking around the room. There was dirt and crumbs under the bed. The towels were not clean.

Avoid this place like the plague!! So many code violations air conditioners dont work in most rooms rust cived protrusions sticking out in shower where shelf used to be , shower hose broken so no water reaches shower head and shoots all over, tv barely attached to wall. Most IMPORTANTLY THEY STOLE MY MONEY FROM BELONGINGS ACCIDENTALLY LEFT IN ROOM! Originally returning $580 out ofn$1,134.00 when i threaten to call police coughed up$250 more.. so i got only $830 out of my over $1,100 back.. refused to give me full name of manager

I felt unsafe. the place was dirty, smelled and had people and cars hanging around. I did not stay at the place after I saw it. They would not cancle my reservation or return money.

The room was stinky and noisy.

The toilet was not clean, hot water runs out fast, the tv is small and has cable but not the best selection of things to watch. There was a guy sleeping outside by the stairs he didn't cause any problems but still something to note. Aside from that the room was great it came with a king bed which was nice. The room was spacious, the outlets came with USB connection.

I stayed upstairs and the room had cathedral ceilings and was really spacious and nice. I extended many times and will definitely come back when I’m in this area.

We were needing an overnight stay. Chose this hotel because the listing stated there was breakfast included. Checked in in the afternoon. Lobby was locked, had to check in thru a little window. When we asked where we would find the breakfast in the morning, we were told that they are not currently offering breakfast. Room was worn out, being held together with caulking. The refrigerator was extremely loud with the freezer section completely iced over so we couldn't unplug it. There were people loitering around outside loudly late into the night. Outside was not well lit, making it feel unsafe to leave the room. We checked out around 11pm, knowing we wouldn't get quality rest. Had it not been non refundable, we would never have even tried. The woman at the check-in/check-out was welcoming and friendly but with all the negatives with the noise, quality of room, lack of breakfast and safety concerns; it wasn't worth the risk.

The staff was very receptive to our needs and actually smiled while serving us. Much improved customer service and the rooms were updated with new furniture as well! We enjoyed our stay this time and will be back.

The Managers Mike and Meensha are wonderful hosts even during full interior renovations of all of their rooms it was peaceful throughout my entire stay. I would highly recommend the Sunset Inn for anyone needing a Staycation, family and friends visiting from outside the area or anything in between. I give the Management and the property 5 + Stars for a First Class operation and attentive extremely professional and personalable staff!! My hat goes off to Mike and Meensha once again for an extremely pleasant stay. I will definitely be returning soon.

I stay here when im in town for work. Since im self- employed i always try to go where the lowest rates are to save money. And for the price you really cant beat this place. I noticed they have updated the rooms with new furniture as well since my previous stay here.

On your website, it says Free Breakfast and a Gym. The property had neither! When I asked the guy who checked us in, his reply; "When haven't had breakfast since COVID!" That was five (5) years ago! So fix the false advertisement already! The bathroom had a terrible urine smell when we got in, so I used Clorox to mop the floor . . . it didn't help! Went out and bought some MOTH BALLS to leave out on the basin counter and it helped TREMENDOUSLY! Cigarette burns all over the bedding but the kicker was this: We asked for 2 more washcloths and 2 more bath towels because we are two people. The cleaning ladies called the manager to come to our room to tell us that we cannot get more towels! You have our $50 deposit, if we want take the towels, then keep our deposit --- but NO ONE would even want to take the towels . . . they were that BAD! WON'T EVER COME TO THIS PLACE AGAIN! Expedia, take this place off your site!

Staff is very friendly. The room is nice and big with a comfortable bed. Free on demand TV. That was cool. I really like that its walking distance to the triangle and close to a number of restaurants, bars, bowling, and a movie theater. Very convenient location.

A good stay for the night. Only had some slight noise disturbances around midnight from the room above, but the front desk handled it right away.

The property is conveniently located and the staff was great. My room was very big and very clean but the exterior felt unsafe, people acting weird, walking around knocking on doors and people talking close to our room at night. If the exterior wasn't an issue, I would have given 5 stars but overall is a good place to stay. Comes with fridge and microwave and receptionists always very nice and courteous.

They lie. They offered online a Continental breakfast included with the stay. At the hotel they told us that they do not provide breakfast. Very old and disgusting furniture. Not coffee maker. Not recommendable. To expensive for the service that they provide.

This room was not to enjoy staying in it was only to crash out for the night. The room needs some updating the wood floors look like they were water damage so they were warped in certain areas. There was there was only one towel so I had to go to office and ask for extras. When we enter the room it smelled really musty and moldy.

They do not have a reception you interact thru a little tiny window in the site say they Ofer breakfast that’s why I book there and they do not have it since long time ago I ask if they have coffee makers the girl in the reception said I will send one that NEVER happens please look for another place they accept dogs the place is full of pee in every corner on the property the fridge was frozen they do not even give water bottles .

Big, king size comfy beds. Rooms are spacious. Place is safe for the most part. Comes with a fridge and microwave so that’s good. Pet friendly as well! Nothing to complain about honestly. It’s close to downtown cost mesa with nice restaurants and bars.

Non-existent amenities, no fridge in rooms as advertised. Lobby is closed off and sealed. Rooms are disgusting, stains on beds and curtains. Hot water didn't work and shelves in bathtub seemed to have been broken off.

Expedia ad said there would be a gym and continental breakfast and neither are available, this needs to be updated for accuracy.

Its ok for a quick stay, but it is not a family stay type. You get what you pay for, so to speak. I did not expect the low class and cleanliness in this area. I won't stay here again.

The room and furniture were outdated, the chair and nightstands were broken. The room smelt of smoking though I booked a non smoking room. The room had poor lighting and 2/4 lights were blinking. The toiletries were worse than dollar store quality. They advertise continental breakfast on their website but there is no breakfast or coffee. The employee said they stopped serving anything since Covid.

No fire alarms, no fire safety, no security locks on doors, dirty towels, there’s fuse box in room. The a/c is very old no knobs same with heater. The heater looked older sketchy with no fire detectors. So 40 50 degrees no heat. Oh no hot water either. Expedia said had free breakfast not true you can’t even go in lobby the neighborhood must be that bad. I will stick to hotel names I know for now on. The room concept layout was nice but that’s about it.

I don’t recommend this hotel in this location do wast the money on this property!

The bathroom had no door handle and my boyfriend got stuck in there for a little while

Room could be cleaner but the customer service was outstanding
