The Hilton Orrington is a great place to stay when visiting Northwestern. The location is ideal, the amenities are plentiful and the valet parking is very convenient. I will stay here again for my next visit.

We had stayed at this hotel about 5 years ago and it was incredibly worn and the service was poor at best-and I swore I would never go back. I learned they had updated the hotel -so I figured I would give it another chance- as there are so few options in Evanston during parents weekend etc. Unfortunately, it was just like putting lipstick on a pig- maybe they painted and got new bedding but it is still old and dilapidated - the bathrooms are yucky. The service was fine and we did like they have a little snack bar downstairs - but the room was disappointing.

It was quick and nothing bad unexpected Location was OK a bit impersonal, there was a Kellogg event and staff didn't make an effort to learn of it

We came on a work trip for our client with a disability to see the Cubs game. We booked two rooms, asked for adjoining at booking, called ahead, and at check in and still did not receive adjoining rooms. Hotel states that they are wheel chair accessible however the ramp down to the elevator is very steep and downhill. The elevator barely fit the wheelchair and had to be picked up to push it in the elevator. Also beds are extremely low to the ground in the accessible rooms. The doorways are not wide either. Valet did not understand how to take the parking brake off of our van to move it and only gave me 5-10 minutes to come down to the lobby to move the van and or explain how, While I have a wheelchair bound client that needed my full attention to get settled into the room. Just frustrating overall, staff at front desk were very friendly and helpful when we arrived but valet could use some patience and consideration for others especially ones with a disability. Great stay if your not looking for disability accommodations!

Lady at work the front desk during night shift is the nicest person I have ever met
- 3/5
Gym was small. Breakfast not that healthy.
- 2/5
Rooms hot, windows nailed shut so couldn't get any fresh air, AC only cools to 20 degrees , thermostats pre-programmed I imagine for cost savings. With very muggy , hot rooms it was stifling.

Location My room was not cleaned and serviced for 2 of the 3 days I was there. The thermostat was not working properly and the front desk had an engineer come to repair the AC, but it still was not working and was either too hot or too cold in the room. The last day I turned it off.

Good hotel, super helpful staff but parking was a downside. Valet was the only practical option for us and cost over $40/day. There is supposed to be cheaper self-parking across the street for around $8–$12 per day, but it’s not on hotel property and wasn’t realistic for us since I arrived at 3 AM with two kids.

My parents flew in for my graduation at Northwestern and were stranded due to severe weather delays. While trying to quickly book a room on Expedia at the airport, I accidentally selected the wrong date due to connection issues. I realized the mistake within 30 minutes and immediately contacted the hotel. Despite explaining the situation, they refused to adjust the date or offer any flexibility—even though the request was made almost immediately. Attempts to reach a manager went unanswered. In the end, I had to book another night anyway because my parents were exhausted after traveling. I understand policies exist, but the complete lack of empathy or willingness to help in a situation like this was extremely disappointing.

The hotel has a great location in downtown Evanston close to Northwestern University. You can walk to restaurants and bars, close to coffee shops, target and Whole Foods. Service is great and valet is $37 a day. Our room was great, remodeled and comfortable. Price is very affordable for the location.
- 4/5
Breakfast was quite plentiful, good, and hearty. Parking
- 1/5
Our room was weirdly shaped and very cramped. Worst of all was the excessive noise coming from the heating system, which sounded like an airplane revving for takeoff. If one turned on the fan, there was no heat. Turn it on for heat, and the fan noise prohibited sleep. Street lights outside the room illuminated the room through the small windows that had inadequate curtains to block the light. Shame on Hilton for squeezing this room into the corner of their hotel and failing to provide an environment conducive to a sound rest for its guests. On the plus side, the staff and kind and friendly.
- 3/5
Windows are drafty, causing constant cycling of HVAC. Exhaust vent in bathroom was gross
- 5/5
yes, courteous and professional.

Clean and comfortable. Was there with a large group and the lobby was great to congregate in
- 5/5
Desk service staff were wonderful. Great stay
- 5/5
The smell of sewage came up into the room when the shower was used. It was disgusting! And all they did was offer me free breakfast.
- 5/5
Wonderful staff
- 5/5
Clean room, good service and great area.

Location is great for walking around Evanston. Room had one window, blocked by a large AC unit that roared all night. Not necessarily a bad thing if you need a noise machine to sleep

Clean rooms, great location in Evanston near the university. Helpful staff.
- 4/5
Nice staff and easy access to the Northwestern campus.

Staff was very nice, bathroom was short some supplies

Not all rooms are upgraded

I missed the free parking and free coffee/breakfast that cheaper hotels provide.
- 3/5
Excessive noise coming from the AC
- 3/5
The bathroom is newer and has no storage space for bathroom needs. Like toothbrush. Toilet is for toddlers. Very low and seat cover is too small.
- 5/5
Staff were very helpful and polite!
- 3.5/5
Location very small toilets and bathrooms. Very noisy room on the back side of the hotel due to air conditioning and ventilation systems
- 5/5
The clearness and friendliness of the staff. The bathroom does not have a shower glass and a countertop on the sink area. It needs to be updated. It was hard to take a shower and do not splash water around the entire floor. Also, there is no area to place my toiletries.
- 5/5
The location of the Orrington is excellent but the star of the Orrington is delfinitely its staff. They were friendly, helpful and handled busy and problem situations with grace and solutions. Gotta love the midwest!

- 3/5
Good area hotel staff dont speak that much English, one of two elevators was out of service
- 4.5/5
The bathroom was pretty small, with little to no counter space
- 4/5
The room had a mildew/must smell. Contacted front desk staff who quickly requested housekeeping. Housekeeping arrived within 10-15 to spray Febreeze. This masked the smell for a few hours but overall the smell remained. This is not a housekeeping issue.
- 1.5/5
Location Very old building, needs extensive renovation. Only 1 elevator for 9 floors. Dusty windows and air conditioners. Smelly rooms. No sound isolation. You can hear water flush in the toilet from the room above. Tiny bathrooms with smallest sink. Better to rent AIRBNB in the same area. Cheaper with access to fresh air. Never again.

Great location.

I reported to the front desk manager that there was food on the carpet from previous occupant and the bathroom walls behind the sink were very dirty. Would not stay here again.
- 2/5
The bathroom was so small I could barely turn around. Requested a room with bigger bathroom. They moved me to a room with the same small bathroom. The desk manager relied on housekeeping to advise as to the bigger bathroom. Neither housekeeping nor the front desk manager did the job asked of them. Will not stay at this hotel again.
- 5/5
Hotel is beautiful and all of the staff is amazing. Only annoying thing is no free parking. Other than that amazing stay and happy we chose this hotel!
- 5/5
This property was right in the heart of downtown and right next to Northwestern - it's a perfect location, and was clean and comfortable!
- 4/5
The bathroom was tiny.

Overall,, the service was good, but the room cleanliness was unsatisfactory. During my five-night sray , the carpet was not vacuumed even once. I hope this can be improved for future guests.
- 5/5
Great place in Evanston. So close to everything.
- 4/5
Good place close to university where I had a few days sessions
- 4/5
staff watched this old lady arrive late at night with big suitcase and made no move to help me indie the hotel- not even to open the door! inside hotel; no offer of assistance to get to room (and they had plenty of staff carts in plain site); room not inexpensive but only two pieces of kleenex in the bathroom! In past 40+ years I stayed here many times- it's more beautiful now but lousy service.
- 5/5
Great property
- 5/5
Wonderful location and staff.
- 4/5
I like the place clean and comfortable. I wish I had the option to park my car
- 5/5
Nice hotel.
- 4/5
Didn't like that only one elevator was available with unaccessible staircase. Does this meet fire safety standards ? A light continental breakfast would've been nice.
- 5/5
Bright, beautiful, spacious room. Pets very welcome, with a reasonable pet fee.
- 5/5
From the moment I arrived, the team welcomed me and made sure my room was ready. They were helpful and helping me find restaurants and other places to eat nearby. And they were always helping when asked. I found no problems with the room or any of the amenities provided Provided.
- 5/5
Support staff, cleaning staff and restaurant are lovely. They always remember me and my family as we stay often with a family member at Northwestern. In contrast, the front desk is cold and passive, I don’t enjoy interacting with thdm
- 3/5
Hotel was conveniently close to the university. Most staff were great. Good restaurant next door. Overall, good experience.
- 4/5
I was a little nervous about staying at the Orrington based on some past reviews but overall we had a great stay. The staff at the hotel is AMAZING- from the front desk to the housekeeping and valet staff. So kind and welcoming. We were there for NU graduation and they made the environment fun and festive. The facility is still a little rough around the edges but the room was clean, the beds comfy and the location cannot be beat for visits to Northwestern. Easy walk to campus and downtown. Overall we had a great experience.
- 4/5
They really need to work on bringing back family dining, and the restaurant like they had several years ago. Other than that, we love this property and the location and the staff.
- 3/5
Although my room was clean and on the 5th floor, which I like, it was nearby Ice and Elevators. Therefore, I woke up twice with the noise of people coming to the floor and/or getting Ice
- 2/5
Very disappointed. It was an uncomfortable stay. The TV in the room was not working. I called guest services 3 different time, but it was not fixed. There was a loud humming in the room, as if a large compressor was running next to it 24x7. This sound was even there while I had the AC turned OFF. The 3rd issue was that that there is a gap of 3 - 4 inches between the window and the blinds/curtains, so essentially the room cannot be dark at night, by design. Worst was the morning when the sunlight shined on my face right through that wide gap. The 4th issue was there was no shower gel in the bathroom. The container was there in the bath, but it was empty. When I did bring this up with the receptionist while checking out, she laughed it off, maybe because my tone was nice. I am very disappointed, considering that I saw positive the reviews before booking.
- 4/5
Hotel is in the process of being remodeled. Staff is SUPER nice and friendly, but the elevators don’t work and the air conditioner on the room was loud. I enjoyed my stay but it was definitely overpriced. I should not have needed to pay over $500 for 2 nights.
- 3/5
Upon arrival at 4pm I was met with a semi pushy valet person encouraging me to check in within 10min so he could shuffle cars. The king room I selected was fully occupied & I received a queen double. The elevator was out of service & had to detour through a sketchy draped hall to a smelly back elevator. Our room had faulty blinds that kept popping open AND the fire alarm went off 3 times! The 2nd false alarm I called to front desk to find out why is this happening & was told I didn't need to leave the room. Only to have some random staff members(female & male) open the door on us "to check for fire". Unfortunately this startled my showering partner. The plus is I received complimentary drinks for being bumped out my preferred room. Overall I don't think I'd choose this hotel again based on the valet guy's attitude, the fire alarm experience & elevators.
- 4/5
Staff was very friendly and helpful. I left my pouch with my passport and phone in the limo that took me to the airport. I called the hotel and they contacted my friends who were still there and had them contact the limo driver who returned to the airport with the much needed pouch.
- 5/5
It was clean, great location and everyone was very nice.
- 4/5
Valet parking wasn’t adequately staffed late afternoon. I had to have the desk clerk assist me.
- 3/5
The great aspects were significantly offset by the drawbacks. Very noisy area, heavy truck noises starting at 7 am every morning of 4-day stay, lots of metal pipes hitting the ground, backup beeping, etc. No sleeping in for us. Lots of random honking at all times (troublesome intersection?). Also housekeeping staff yelling up and down the hall to each other and holding long, loud conversations very close to room door starting at 8 am. Very, very small bathroom. We adapted, but definitely an inconvenience. Also challenging for this particular visit was one of two elevators being out of service during a very busy time with lots of conference meetings happening. Valet supervisor very nice, but can't do everything himself. Young crew members did not inspire confidence. Had trouble retrieving our car on more than one occasion. Will probably try other nearby options for our next stay.
- 4/5
Convenient valet parking. Friendly staff. The dining option at the hotel is limited but it is walking distance to many good restaurants. Great location close to Northwestern Campus.
- 4/5
Wonderful professional lovely staff
- 3/5
Hotel is renovating. No notice of renovation on the website. It sounded like jackhammers will directly above our room. You could hear any and all noise, from nearby rooms, the halls, toilets flushing. Luckily, renovation was on hold over the weekend. Staff was very friendly. Good location. Can’t really make room dark with provided shade. Room was very small (NYC small) and was a “Deluxe King”. Could barely turn around in the bathroom.
- 5/5
The staff is incredibly polite, helpful, and communicative.
- 5/5
Clean hotel with plenty of fun options in the area.
- 5/5
Just lovely. The staff was friendly and helpful, the building was full of amenities, and the room was everything you could want.
- 5/5
Beautifully updated property.
- 5/5
Friendly staff. Walked to many good restaurants. Bobs Pizza was open late till 1 am and had delicious pizzas.
- 5/5
Staff at the front desk were amazing.
- 3/5
Clean, well staffed and professional. Did not get room asked for.
- 5/5
Not a fan of parking charges per night or parking situation there. However, really good and comfortable hotel overall.
- 4/5
Our room was spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was very tiny though. With such a huge room the tiny bathroom seems strange.
- 4/5
Close to campus. Clean and safe.
- 5/5
I was lucky enough to be in one of the newly renovated rooms and it was lovely. The staff, especially Sophia, were excellent and very friendly.
- 2/5
Hotel seemed clean but the more you looked the more gross it became. The shower had hair & black mold (or maybe bugs?) in it upon arrival, there was a broken tile in front of the door/toilet, and dust was caked onto lamp shades. Both glasses that were left for water were dirty & the remote for the TV didn’t work. Also, two power outlets did not work on the lamps which made charging personal items impossible. I have a video of the tub.
- 5/5
We always enjoy stayin at the Orrington!
- 5/5
It was very nice peaceful, not much to worry about
- 4/5
The doors and entry ways all need a painting or update, other than that it seemed to be in good shape.
- 5/5
I enjoyed my time
- 4/5
The whole lobby was under construction… made for a loud and dusty experience. Staff seemed a bit pushy … didn’t feel warmly welcomed.
- 1/5
The lobby looks nothing like the photos on Expedia. My room smelled terribly & unclean, told no other room but not true. 2nd room across from construction, plastic on ground, no TV signal, heater kept coming on loud all nite. Will not stay here again.
- 5/5
Close to campus, big rooms
- 1/5
Bathroom much to be desired as well with broken sink, TP holder and mold in room.
- 3/5
It was near a lit of dining & shopping places. Near the lake which is lovely. The room just seemed a bit run down.
- 5/5
I would say the peoperty and service was really nice. The reason I chose this place was because of the electric vehicle charging station. But unfortunately it wasnt working while I was there and there is no parking for the property which is very disappointing, although there is valet option at an additional cost.
- 1/5
We had a bedbug in our room. Also the renovation leaves a lot to be desired. There was nothing special about this hotel and I definitely would not return. Alexander is the only positive thing happening at the hotel.
- 5/5
Great location . Easy access and friendly staff . I would recommend
- 4/5
Nice hotel with comfortable rooms, a decent fitness room, and a credible onsite restaurant in the heart of Evanston and near NU campus. Staff was friendly and professional, and rooms were reasonable. Only negative was learning that construction was underway AFTER check in, though they did try to be accommodating.
- 5/5
The staff was great and accessible
- 5/5
Excellent place to stay, very nice room, quiet and comfy
- 5/5
Convenient and clean hotel. Only negative is that they were having construction. Staff was super friendly and welcoming. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The beds were great. We were right next to Northwestern campus and we felt that the hotel was in a clean, safe location. We were surprised by how many wonderful restaurants were in walking distance. We walked around Evanston and it's a quaint and beautiful town. Target and Whole Foods are minutes away.
- 2/5
There is no parking
- 2/5
Also beware of understaffed valet if you decide to park. Although very polite, it took more than 20 minutes to get my car each morning.
- 3/5
Have stayed here numerous times in the past, but not in past three years. Today, Hotel public spaces are fine, but room was drab. Not sure if it has been renovated, but needs a brightening up — and some decent lighting. Room has fresh coat of paint, but is not attractive. Bathroom uncomfortably small. Bed very comfortable, furniture fine.
- 5/5
Valet was always very friendly & efficient.
- 5/5
Great hotel in a nice location! Highly recommended to anyone visiting Evanston!
- 3/5
Excellent bedding and pillow. However the insulation of room is too bad. I could hear people chatting loudly for 2 nights in the hallway and upper level early at 5:30- 6am.
- 4/5
The hotel was great location to visit Northwestern campus. Very convenient and easy walk to South campus. A lot of restaurants and shopping in the area. The hotels under renovations now lobby and restaurant really nice. The food in the restaurant was excellent. A lot for the money. The rooms were a bit old and not in great condition. Mold in the shower and very dusty in the room.

Love the historic Orrington! Perfect access to Northwestern. Probably the rooms are a bit smaller than we are used to but still nice. The bar is old, classic and fantastic.
- 2/5
The room hadn't been vacuumed and the carpet and couch had multiple stains in them. The carpet had someone else's toe nails clippings in it. The staff did vacuum the room as requested but for what we paid I would have expected better.
- 3/5
When this hotel used to be Omni Orrington, it was the nicest hotel in town. Hilton ownership transformed it into yet another basic chain hotel. The room was very noisy, temperature control was not working properly, the faucet in the bathroom was leaking. Just a very average experience. Yes, it is downtown and conveniently located, but the stay left much to be desired.
- 3/5
The bathroom was too small and had issues with water drainage
- 2/5
Evanston is Heavenston, but not at this visit to the Hilton. The staff was rude. Valet did not even offer to help with bags or even offer a luggage cart, we were scoffed at when we asked about self-parking and then we were sent to a place that made it clear that our car would be towed from a grocery store, we were not notified that there would be construction that literally required us to transfer to three different elevators to reach our room, the construction was very noisy early in the morning, the carpet in the room was literally FILTHY. This was the worst Hilton stay in memory, after literally hundreds of Hilton visits in the past. I can no longer confidently just click on Hilton. Sad.
- 4/5
Property was undergoing renovation. That was reflected in the rate which was very fair. Great location.
- 4/5
Pricey but average for the area. Staff are all wonderful. Would note some rooms have issues, ours was missing the pulley to lower the window shade which was not nice for privacy and to keep it cooler. Also we noted ants throughout the facility.
- 3/5
Also the parking costs and availability is horrible No one answers the front desk phone either
- 2/5
there were a LOT of stains on the floor, the room had a strange smell, and we were put in a different room than we had purchased (we were put in a 2 bed room instead of a king bed). They refused to move us to another room.
- 4/5
Friendly staff. Hotel renovation noise made it difficult to sleep in. Small bathroom needs upgrading. Room was large but missing places to sit. Our desk was missing a drawer.
- 4/5
it is good
- 5/5
Excelente muy buena hospitalidad
- 2/5
Our room back the entire buildings AC system so our room was so loud for two days between running our ac the tv and the buildings ac it was horrible. The valet people I don’t even know what to say except for they don’t seem to know what they’re doing. We dreaded dealing with them. Would never stay at this hotel again. On day two they came on and cleaned our room but never changed the sheets.
- 4/5
The Director of Operations did apologize and offered us a free night at any Hilton in the future which we did accept.
- 2/5
Filter coffee of the past guest was left in the coffee machine. No ice from the ice machine. Strong noises from the gym next door late at night and early in the morning.
- 4/5
Room was a little musty/stinky. Everything else was great.
- 5/5
Love the Orrington. Will stay again.
- 5/5
Perfect
- 5/5
Very neat and efficient services
- 5/5
Rooms were very clean and staff was very polite, welcoming, and helpful.
- 3/5
Everything was great: nice room, comfortable beds, great location only complaint was that the bathroom was very small with no sink space
- 1/5
Called the hotel multiple times and requested to not charge for the same. Expedia said that they called the property and Spoke to Justin at the front desk. He wasn’t helpful too. I also called them to help waive the charges. After being an HHonors member they were highly rude and non accommodative. Have stayed on multiple occasions earlier for work but none of that was taken into account. Unfortunate that the HHonors membership and customer service is so pathetic almost to a point of no return. Will look for other options next time.
- 5/5
Expensive but good.
- 5/5
Very quiet neightborhood.
- 5/5
If you want to enjoy Chicago by day but still have a quiet place to stay at night this hotel's location is perfect. Metra and CTA stations can get you to many popular spots in the city and is within walking distance. If you take Clark Street east it is a short walk to amazing walking, biking, and jogging trails. I had plans to visit friends in outside Milwaukee this weekend but came a day and a half early just to enjoy this area as I did in 2022. Staff allowed me to check in early because my room was cleaned in advanced and it wasn't being occupied. After my checkout the valet team held by bag for an hour so I could show my friend's and their kids the beach.
- 5/5
Walkable to NW. Walkable to great dining for all 3 meals. The staff is great, welcoming and helpful. The property is older but so well maintained. Makes it classic instead of old. Everything looks and works great. Will stay again. Highly recommend.
