Reviews
The hotel is praised for its location and friendly staff, but criticized for its outdated facilities and lack of hot water. Some guests also reported issues with cleanliness and maintenance.
- Great location
- Friendly staff
- Outdated facilities
- Lack of hot water
- 3/5
Cool place, in the beach but very old hotel with minimum amenities. Towels are dirty, room carpet is stinky.
- 4/5
The staff was friendly, the location is great, and the coffee, tea, and hot chocolate bar was a really thoughtful touch. The shower fixtures could use an upgrade, but all in all it was a good stay for the price, we’d happily stay again.
- 1/5
Bad service all round very dirty and rude
- 5/5
parking
- 5/5
It was a nice quiet hotel. Could use a coffee maker in the room. Views were nice and staff was friendly
- 4/5
Older property but great location
- 4/5
Clean but dated. Rooms are basic but fine. Nice location, walk to beach and around marina. A little pricey but it is Marina del Rey.
- 4/5
Otherwise great stay, price was reasonable as well compared to others in the area.
- 3/5
This small hotel is a real find if you can put up with shortcomings is has. The pluses: great location with rooms facing the beach. Free parking. Lots and lots of things to do close by. The negatives: primitive rooms that don’t provide a way to move in. No drawers or cabinets for clothing. Thin walls so you definitely will know what is going on in adjacent rooms. No safes in the hotel which is a clear oversight.I should add the price of the hotel is lower than everyone else in the area. I will probably stay again knowing the real pluses & minuses.
- 4/5
We liked the proximity to Venice Beach. The staff was great and we were able to check in early for one of our rooms without any extra fees. We did have to wait an hour after normal check in for the other room due to maintenance issues with the shower head. Otherwise it was great and I would stay here again.
- 1/5
Ice machine broken. Would give you a small bag of ice that wouldn’t even fill my Stanley. Looked at you crazy when you wanted more ice. No access straight from room to beach. Signs on beach that bad bacteria in water n Do not enter. Hotel is old n not updated. They had coffee n tea n some oatmeal in 2 small cups with biscotti n 1 cookie at breakfast. If you stay on right hallway there is very loud kitchen noise from Cheesecake Factory, which shares wall to hotel. Heard dishes clanking . TV wouldn’t work. Staff came. Factory Reset TV but didn’t continue setup n I had to reset up myself .
- 4/5
The room was immaculate smelled clean when we got there very clean no complaints.
- 5/5
Location, location, location!!! My teens played for hours in the water even though it was shallow. Theres several great restaurants within walking distance. Staff was super friendly! 1
- 5/5
Unobstructed beach view. Efficient staff and front desk. Easy parking. Unique location.
- 3/5
Nice enough, reasonably clean, needs a little TLC. No hot water was a refreshing experience
- 3/5
Easy parking, no frills vintage hotel right on one of the marina inlets. The beds were good and the shower was clean. But its no frills otherwise. Non matched towels, cheap soap and shampoo, older furniture and fixtures, but im not complaining for 160 bucks on the sand overlooking the marina.
- 5/5
Great location
- 4/5
The location was incredible, the room was quiet. The cleanliness was ok, if you are a prima Donna skip this place. The value was great for the money and I would probably stay there again because of the location. The owner could put some money into it to make it complaint free.
- 5/5
Beach view
- 5/5
Great small hotel that’s been on Mother’s Beach forever. Location is fantastic, rooms are large and well maintained and it’s very reasonably priced, especially for the area. Pet friendly and the staff and front desk were wonderful. Spend the extra couple of bucks for beachside, as noisy as it was outside because it was a holiday weekend with lots of festivities, I barely heard a peep.
- 2/5
Water pressure was horrible and staff’s apology rang hollow. Won’t stay there again.
- 3/5
Price is good for the area, staff are great , parking is easy . Property is worn down a lot and hardly any amenities. A very basic motel .
- 4/5
Good value for the price in an area where hotels are expensive. Staff was super helpful and friendly. My only negatives were the fact that the fridge did not seem to work, the shower water pressure was very weak, and there is no elevator. So if you have any mobility issues, be sure to ask for something on the ground floor. I'm kind of old and have mobility issues and it was no fun Schlepping luggage up and down one flight of stairs.
- 5/5
Stayed for 2 nights while in town for my daughter’s graduation. We had the most amazing view and would stay there again. The staff was very welcoming.
- 3/5
The property is adequate, for an older motel. The location and parking were good for our purposes & we enjoyed being near the marina. Good view & people watching from our balcony. Coffee & hot choc were appreciated. Extra charge $100 for late check out, even though we stayed there 3 nights.
- 4/5
Very clea
- 3/5
We were traveling all day and by the time we arrived in the evening, the front desk person was on lunch. Even though we caught his attention, he did not come in to help us. He continued with his lunch and we had to wait another 30 minutes while we were exhausted! On the last day of our stay, the shower water was barely running! Eventually, it ran normal but set us back about a half hour.
- 4/5
Very nice beach view. Rooms are a little dated.
- 4/5
We had to ask for extra towels but there is a sign to ask in the front if needed, not a big deal.
- 4.5/5
The location is great, close to the beach and an easy walk to numerous restaurants, etc. Not necessarily a complaint, but the room is a bit dated, particularly the carpet.
- 2/5
Yes my room overlooked the beach, but the photo you used for the room was actually the lobby, so it was deceiving. I left the hotel after the first night. The room had a terrible smell like air freshener that was trying to cover up something. I went to another hotel. I would like a refund for my 2nd night.
- 5/5
Very nice place, and great location.
- 3/5
Lots of parking but unsecured. Our room overlooked the parking lot and not the beach.
- 5/5
It was an anniversary nite perfect decor and perfect view
- 5/5
Parking is Free and they have cameras around the property.
- 5/5
We stayed one night. The bed was comfortable. Room was clean. We had a nice lower level patio room overlooking the beach. Convenient location.
- 3/5
Parking is great....staff and manager were the best....very welcoming! The room....not great...desperately needs to to be updated....it's a beautiful area...has a Cheesecake Factory right next door but it's hard to appreciate....the ocean air is ruthless and it has taken a Huge toll on this property.....won't be returning....which is very very 😔 😟.
- 5/5
Yes, parking was available and the room had been recently redone for electrical and bathroom appliances.
- 3/5
Easy parking close to the room. Staff was very helpful & friendly. The view was really nice right on the water. Hotel is older & a bit run down but still decent for a short stay. Only downside is that you have to ask for more towels & toilet paper because they don’t automatically restock the rooms. Rooms defbut we still enjoyed our stay.
- 5/5
Clean hotel with very nice marina facing views from the balcony.
- 5/5
The Foghorn was perfect for my trip! On the marina with a maintained beach, free parking, balcony, and free coffee! The staff was super friendly and helpful! I will stay there again!
- 5/5
Staff was incredibly nice and helpful. Location is great right on the beach. Always had a close parking spot to the entrance. Cheesecake Factory right next door to walk to.
- 5/5
The Foghorn Harbor Inn is an excellent value. It's not fancy, but it has all the things we look for in a reasonably priced motel: it's clean, it has in-room refrigerators and microwaves, the bed is large and comfortable, the staff is welcoming and responsive, there is 24-hour coffee and small snacks. Also, it's quite well situated. We had a meeting in Marina del Rey, but also visited Beverly Hills (about half an hour) and downtown LA (about 35 minutes), depending on the time of day, of course.
- 5/5
Sincerely
- 2/5
Wcould not check in till 4 or pay additional 50. The gentlemen who check us in was rude. Instead of handing us all papers to fill out before 4 he made everybody wait. That took additional 30 minutes. Once we had the key I went into room found no towels and one small soap as big as your finger nail. Outside patio had dead plants and need to be painted. Not worth $300 a night.
- 5/5
A great place to stay is clean environment
- 4/5
great location, free parking
- 4/5
This location was very good the view from our room was beautiful. The only issue is we were hoping to have the sliding door open and enjoy the fresh air come in at night but the only smell we got was the smell of marijuana. So we closed the door as we had children as well.
- 4/5
Very basic but safe “motel” in good location. Price is real good compared to surrounding hotels. Staff are usually great.
- 3/5
There is an insecure parking lot in front. There is a beautiful marina view with easy beach access. The property is old and does not include any amenities, not even cable TV. The room was however clean, but, overall, everything about the room is sad except for the view.
- 3/5
Location is perfect and beautiful. Plenty of free parking and staff was very nice. However, the mattress was the worst I’ve ever slept on, lumpy and so uncomfortable. There were 3 very flat pillows on the bed that should be thrown out. Would I stay there again? Yes, because of the location and the view.
- 4/5
Really nice view
- 3/5
Parking was great, and the view was fantastic
- 5/5
I love this place. The hotel is a little dated, but the rooms were comfortable and very clean. The staff was super friendly.
- 5/5
Clean room beach front easy parking nice staff
- 4/5
Parking was easy to find. The location is great, we had a direct beach view. The room was clean, but a little damp.
- 5/5
Reasonably priced for location. Quite and no dodgy characters around. Air conditioner/heater old school and rather loud. Free capsule coffee machine and water dispenser in the lobby. Ground floor terrace very large but right by the pathway
- 3/5
Room was clean but didn’t feel that safe with the lock to the patio. Didn’t want to leave valuables in the room
- 5/5
Good people front desk manager was very professional let me check in a few minutes early 🙏
- 4.5/5
Staff had no change so we couldn’t leave a tip for the housekeeper. Terrible coffee. Too bad the little store next door closed. That had been very helpful during previous stays.
- 5/5
Great staff and location.
- 5/5
Nice hotel on the water. Staff very friendly and nice. Thank you 😊
- 4/5
The hotel was pet friendly and that was a must for this trip. Would stay here again for the price and convenience.
- 2/5
No classes or cups in room or lobby for water or coffee. TV cable and antenna were not hooked up until called staf to fix.
- 1/5
Terrible management. They don’t care about their customers. Only take their money.
- 3/5
Friendly front desk staff. Loud and intermittent air conditioning, cycling on/off every minute.
- 4/5
A great location just a few minutes drive or a short walk to Venice. Free coffee in the mornings and free parking. Just 15mins from LAX Airport.
- 5/5
Great location. Safe, comfortable. Have stayed in Foghorn Inn previously.
- 5/5
The best view ever!
- 3/5
This was an up and down visit. Obviously renovating. Pics on website are deceiving. first room was dingy and unappealing. The AC went out after the first day. First we were told he would get maintenance out the next day cuz there were no other rooms. then came to our room asking when maintenance can come and if not fixed we WOULD get a different room. by 2pm Maintenance had not shown, day desk rep didn't know if they would, but they did give us a new room. This room was so much better. It was the same style room, but it was brighter, more refreshed feeling, better bed, bigger fridge. And I don't know why hotels cannot offer more, or even better placed, electrical outlets. There are just never enough. Lobby upstairs is airy and bright and clean. But they only offer coffee. Maybe they could get some vending machines for snacks and drinks at least. Also, there was only one garbage can in the bathroom for the entire room.
- 4/5
Loved that this is right on mother’s beach. Didn’t love the lack of amenities… there’s no vending machine and no toiletries in the room besides 2 towels
- 5/5
We enjoyed ourselves and the staff was nice
- 5/5
Great location if you're looking to be close to LAX, Venice Beach and Abbot Kinney. I would say, this place is the "Spirit Airlines" of hotels. It was very clean and staff were always friendly and helpful
- 1/5
The room smell like molds.
- 5/5
Safe area, easy parking. Can walk to Venice beach.
- 4/5
The room is well equipped and clean and tidy and the staff were helpful and friendly. Good parking and a lovely view over the Marina. Downside is you can hear the planes from LAX and the Air con was loud but overall a nice stay.
- 3.5/5
Booking.com needs to improve their communication with customers!
- 3/5
Great location, with easy parking and wonderful views
- 3/5
We were in the lower level and could hear everyone coming down the stairs and above us.
- 4.5/5
Clean, nice location. Nothing.
- 5/5
Beautiful view. Pet friendly.
- 5/5
We already booked another stay in 2 weeks and will add it to our favorites in CA.
- 5/5
Great location, professional staff, clean rooms. Only wish you can check in early an b charge for late check outs.
- 3.5/5
The location was excellent. The staff was friendly. The price was good for the location. Good enough that I’d stay there again. The property needed a lot of cosmetic updates. Some of the rooms had been updated, but not ours. Ours still had old musty carpet. No coffee makers in the room; only a single pod machine in the lobby.
- 2/5
NA Everything about the room and the hotel needs refreshing. Ice only on one floor. Carpet not vacuumed daily. Decent for the price, but nothing special.
- 1/5
wow what a difference a year. makes last year we stayed and it was great. To bad I can't say the same now front desk was rude, no early check inns, no breakfast, no coffee in room. Our room the a/c did not work well at all, the freg. spoiled what I put in it , the bed was hard. a real disappointment and I was looking forward to staying their again not so now.
- 3/5
Great location, ok staff, old facility
- 3/5
No public washroom told to use public one on beach, as we were dropping bags off prior to check in. women staff during day made us feel as though we were interrupting them, gentleman on evenings and night shift kind and helpful. Room dated, needs repair and upgrades. Bed comfortable clean linens. Floor appears clean but covered in grime / sand. Beach is nice decent location for price.
- 5/5
Great hotel next to the beach view
- 3/5
Person at the desk didn’t even know about the Fisherman Marina Market across the way! Why they put a $100 deposit hold is ridiculous - never had to do that at other hotels. Unfortunately despite it being upscale area, homeless people hang out at Mothers beach and one chased my godson. Being Nextdoor to Cheesecake Factory was the highlight!
- 2/5
Rooms on bottom level, especially last room, would have decent view except for walled in patio with small window at end. Very prison cell esq... They attempted to charge my credit card for the full rental amount after i already paid the full amount to the required 3rd party booking agency a month earlier. Not sure how their system even allows them to make that mistake but would be very convenient for them if i didnt catch it and confront them. Would never go back or refer anyone to this place. Many more issues including staff, old furnishings, no privacy from rooms directly above, extremely loud from rooms above, nowhere to fill water bottles, forehead level shower head, old mattress extremely saggy on one side only.
- 3.5/5
Amazing location, great value, friendly staff! Half the rooms have cool views of the marina -- I got one on the other side but a cool little patio. And the room was HUGE. Big plus there! The facilities are in need of an upgrade, which I hope they get - but even shy of that, the location and price are so great it's worth putting up with some infrastructure issues.
- 2/5
When it was time to wind down for the night, the noise from the people staying above me made it really difficult to relax. I could hear them stomping around and arguing loudly, which made it hard to fall asleep. I totally understand people wanting to have a good time, but just be aware that the walls and floors seem thin and you will most likely hear a lot from the people staying above or next to you. Overall, the staff did a great job and were very kind. I know situations like noise from other guests aren’t always something they can control.
- 5/5
Beautiful view, clean room, free parking a very affordable! They even offer a late check out
- 3/5
Our room was downstairs and next to the stairs and close to the housekeeping room and it was so noisy. Could hear people walking above and going up and down the stairs. The room was clean. The beds were comfortable. Pillows weren’t too good. Towels were very limited. View was nice with the walk out patio but they start blowing the sand off the walking path early in the morning. The Hive coffee shop up the street was amazing. Parking was free and easy. I wouldn’t stay here again just because of how noisy it was.
- 2/5
Not the cleanest and you can hear everything happening in all the surrounding areas (next door, upstairs, hallway). There is a beach view which is almost nice but there’s also a path directly next to the patio so people are walking by and looking in all day
- 4/5
Charging security deposit. I still have not received it back. Need to advertise security deposit required
- 5/5
Great views!
- 3/5
Convenient on beach. Rooms are updated. They desperately need some convenience items such as vending machine for waters, Gatorade, snacks etc..as well as a coffee option in the lobby.
- 3.5/5
The location was very lovely and it was great to have Cheesecake Factory and the Saturday market next door. It’s and older hotel and feels a little tired. Only had 1 room key. Coffee in the lobby but not the room… nice but simple.
- 4/5
Good value and great location.
- 3/5
No coffee maker, but only staying 1 night, good reasonable hotel close to LAX in good area but kind of outdated, however, they have updated some of the rooms and the balcony rooms are a great view of the marina
- 3/5
Location was great. Easy transportation to LAX and Santa Monica Pier. Restaurants nearby within walking distance No in room coffee was an inconvenience.
- 2/5
Our “nonsmoking” room was filled with cigarette smell. I asked for a change of room and said there wasn’t a room to move to. I asked to speak to the manager and was told she is only reachable by email. I emailed her Friday night and again on Saturday and have not heard back. In addition, we mentioned the smoke alarm was beeping, a note was made but it was not checked, then at one in the morning the smoke alarm went off
- 5/5
Location, location, location
- 5/5
Very helpful staff, great location, relaxed atmosphere
- 5/5
The location is everything!!!! In Marina del Rey,I was woken up by beautiful sunrise, palm trees and marina. It’s 6 minutes from Venice beach driving. The staff is very friendly and helpful, room was beautiful, spacious and exceptionally clean- huge thank you to Maria :) I asked for a blue room and I got one, highly appreciated. Parking is spacious and free. Two small things ; - I had to pay deposit upon arrival 100$ and they only accept cards,I only had cash on me so I had to make a trip to ATM but they give it back to you the next day. I don’t understand why they didn’t take cash but it’s hotels policy I guess. Just wish I knew sooner before I arrived since they don’t put this information anywhere. However not a deal breaker at all. - The noise can be little bit annoying at certain times. I came on Sunday and I had some pretty loud and noisy neighbors below me and I could hear absolutely everything same like people outside. However it only lasted till around 11 pm later on it was peace and quiet. I would definitely go back if I’m staying in LA next time
- 5/5
It was a nice view The walls are thin and I can hear neighbors talking
- 5/5
The area and the view
- 5/5
Was so nice. Clean rooms highly recommended
- 3.5/5
Guest service not good but my person from booking .com Ezra was outstanding in helping me . The manager availability to resolve problems.
- 4/5
The place is a bit tattered, but I enjoyed being on the beach and the fact that a taqueria, a pizza place, a Thai place, a kabab place, a ramen place and a sushi place (and a liquor store) are all less than a five-minute walk from FHI.
- 1/5
Place is run down
- 3/5
Could definitely use some upgrades:)
- 5/5
The Staff felt like family. Can’t say enough about how warm, welcoming and considerate every single employee was. The room was everything we needed. Loved that there was a tub for my children after the countless times we played in the sand. Quiet, comfortable and relaxing hotel. The views are spectacular. We had a balcony room and it didn’t disappoint. Sunrise and sunset are breathtaking on the harbor. The area can’t be beat. Besides staying directly on a beach it is a perfect centralized location for taking a ride share to anywhere we wanted to go. Marina Del Rey is also a very upscale, safe and charming neighborhood. Lots of food options within an easy walking distance. I won’t stay anywhere else when we come back to LA. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone I know to stay anywhere else. You won’t regret the Foghorn Harbor Inn, especially if you have children. Thank you everyone at the Foghorn for helping us have such a memorable and positive vacation.
- 2.5/5
Room smells of cigarettes. Not sure why when it is a non smoking establishment
- 2.5/5
We came in around midnight. The reception was sully & wasn’t helpful. Large bed but only 3 pillows for 2 of us.
- 2/5
The bedding was nice. Doors were missing on the closet. We had no tv remote but the gentleman at the desk gave us one but we had to program it. As much as we love being on the water would not stay here again.
- 5/5
Room was clean and the staff was really nice. We loved going to sleep hearing the sea lions and waking up to the seagulls. We’ll definitely stay there again!
- 5/5
All good
- 5/5
the room and view were amazing. the location was absolutely perfect. bed was comfortable and the room was very nicely updated etc. The property was very basic. No amenities such as breakfast or vending machines etc but that was fine with me, everything you need is walking distance.
- 0.5/5
Not hot water at the time of the stay Bed bugs and they also refund my money so they can get it back months later.
- 1/5
It smelled super toxic, the bath didn't work and the carpet was super wet in a corner of the room. Thanksfully, they refunded me. Maybe this was an unusual experience, but this was mine.
- 5/5
Perfect
- 4/5
Didn’t know there was breakfast. The balcony was nice with a nice nighttime view of water and lights. The lotions and soaps were minimal. Only a few towels. A lot of noise outside in the morning.
- 4/5
This was a last minute stay within budget. Bed was amazing. If you are looking for a modern place this will not be it. There was a tiny hole in the restroom. It’s outdated (older) but overall well kept. If you just need the convince and some shut eye this is your place. Lastly, I would recommend this stay for 2 people not family. I did see a lot of reviews were from family with kids. The staff was courteous. I hope to come again!
- 5/5
yes
- 3/5
It was fine
- 1/5
the room was in the basement , this hotel maybe going through some refurbishing but the carpet in the basement hallway and the room was nasty horrible to the ooint yhou cannot put your shoes down in the room , the room was good next to the water directly however there is room for improvement, like the closet shelf had filth all over it i couldnt put my laggage in the closet, and there was used toilet paper lol , the cleaning supplies gave me eye allergies and my eyes got irrated and i had to checkout
- 4/5
Friendly staff and good location, but the King room with patio to look out to the marina is pretty outdated and stuffy. Great to have parking.
- 1/5
Didn't feel safe and wasn't clean and well-kept.
- 5/5
Quiet. Bed was ok. Nice view. Would go again.
- 3/5
location is great, room is simple but clean, friendly staff.
- 5/5
We had a refurbished garden room; so it was clean, colorful and better lit.
- 5/5
All is good and the staff is helpful.
- 4/5
Everything was amazing! The staff was kind and courteous.. I would definitely stay again! The only downside was I was excited that it was completely nonsmoking but the people that checked in later next to us would go out and smoke on their balcony so the last 2 days we could not enjoy our balcony or leave our balcony door open… I did let the lady upfront know but she didn’t do anything about it.. other than that it was a great stay!!
- 4/5
Property was a little dated but room was clean and location was great.
- 4/5
No breakfast, so should not have been advertised as provided, and the hotel's web site should remove customer comments on the breakfast that was provided. Finally, after a week they have yet to reimburse our $100 deposit.
- 2/5
And my own bath. But hey, it’s the cheapest place around. If that’s what you want, go for it.
- 5/5
Adorable quaint The front desk team Sue and West were wonderful
- 1/5
Not worth staying here unless you budget for a $50 fee for "stained towels" like other reviews have mentioned. We were sent a photo showing a hand towel with minimal eyeshadow streaks that will clearly wash out with water in 2 seconds. It’s unfortunate that they feel the need to take advantage of customers this way.
- 4/5
Great location! Literally on the beach! Very walkable and bikeable. Nice staff too!
- 2/5
There is no cable or internet and door locks there is lot be desire old getting stuck unsafe is emergency of fire you get stuck in rooms
- 5/5
Room was remodeled and staff continued to be great
- 4/5
We stayed only one night but we enjoyed it.
- 3/5
We like the location and price of the room. However, be aware of this place needs a complete update! After we checked in around 4:00 pm, they had a water leak issue somewhere and needed to cut off water for repairs. The water in our room did not coma back until after 10:00 pm. The room we stayed next to the lobby, for the first two mornings, there were few people talking loudly around 4:30 am, affecting our sleep. After we complained to the front desk, they corrected the issue.
- 4/5
The staff provided great service! The only inconvenient was the first day with no hot water. However it was fixed next morning. Other than that a very peaceful place to stay.
- 2/5
This property is in serious need of updates. The rooms feel very dated and had a musty smell throughout my stay. We also went almost two days without hot water, which is unacceptable. At $150 per night, you would expect modern, well-maintained accommodations, but this place falls far short of that expectation.
- 5/5
Our room has been recently renovated and was lovely!
- 5/5
We absolutely loved our weeklong stay here! The room was very clean and the staff were really friendly and welcoming. We loved waking up to the beautiful sunrise and hearing the seagulls singing. The lobby coffee was always stocked and really clean. Just a 15-20 minute walk to the Venice Pier for an amazing sunset. We will definitely stay here again.
- 2/5
Good
- 5/5
The front desk is always courteous and we had a lovely refurbished room.
- 4/5
Clean room. Nice staff. Good location.
- 4/5
I like it room it was clean
- 4/5
Folks are friendly...
- 5/5
Cozy beachside hotel by Mothers Beach with views of the Marina. Peaceful and pleasant.
- 5/5
No its great
- 4/5
Great view! Older hotel but clean and well kept. Our room was for 4 people and we had to ask for towels as there was only 2. We would absolutely stay there again though.
- 5/5
Location, friendly staff,
- 4/5
Staff was great. Room was clean. Property is old but they made the best of the aged property. The view was my favorite part.
- 3/5
Room was dated, bed soft
- 1/5
Basement room, it stunk, old, a/c- Heater didn’t work. It’s a great location. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t remodel . Would never stay there again.
- 4/5
Nice location
- 1/5
We left a day early. The walls were too thin and we could hear everything next door. Homeless sleep in the parking lot across the street. They burn pungent incense in the lobby…. my wife got a headache.
- 1/5
I can’t believe Expedia recommended this … unbelievable
- 4/5
The only inconvenience was the burning incense in the lobby. While I don't mind atomizers, the smoke from the incense was a bit much. If one is sensitive to smells or smoke, this might be a bit irritating. But, unless you want to hang out in the lobby, it really isn't much of an issue.
- 4/5
Staff courteous
- 2/5
The room was very neglected. The Heater/AC not working. Frig. not level and hard to open and close. Maid’s mop and broom next to my door. Staff so so.
- 5/5
In an area surrounded by expensive hotels, it’s good to find a “budget” one that offers clean and comfortable rooms, hot water, good coffee and nice views of the marina. Very nice staff, and 15 min walking distance to Venice pier. Thank you for having us!
- 4/5
The young man at the desk was finally able to find a room with heating after a couple tries. He was very nice.
- 4/5
The location and view from my patio were absolutely perfect. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The tv or remote did not work in my room but it was ok.
- 3/5
Dated property but price reflects that
- 1/5
Not bad
- 3/5
The very first item on the list of rules one needs to initial upon check in was LOST & FOUND: We don't have one; make sure you take all of your stuff with you. May as well state, "If you forget something, someone on our staff is going to steal it." This statement doesn't belong anywhere in the thought process of someone in the hospitality business. I did not feel welcomed at all, more like an inconvenience.
- 5/5
Very nice view Will come Back again
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
Staff was great. Perfect location.
- 4/5
I loved everything about this stay. Especially the price and where it’s located. Cannot beat this! The only thing I noticed was my running water did not get as hot as I like it too. Other than that, it was a wonderful stay.
- 3/5
Staff were nice but place was kinda grungy.. but it’s a older place and it is what it is
- 5/5
Nice staff and wonderful view of the marina.
- 5/5
Great staff! And amazing location
- 5/5
The beach view was unobstructed and peaceful. There was always plenty of safe, easy parking with no extra parking fees. The staff was always ready to help. The walls are a bit thin and the place is a little outdated, which was no issue for me. Great stay! I would highly recommended staying at the Foghorn and I will definitely be back.
- 3/5
Bathroom (tub) was not really clean but it didn’t really bother me. It’s an older place in a great location with a great price.
- 5/5
The room had a patio that allowed me to calm my anxiety while breathing fresh air Access to the stand just steps away with an easy dial pad to reenter building
- 3/5
I stayed here before months ago & I remember them having a water issue ! I came again assuming after 5 months they would have fixed there water but no they still haven’t & they won’t tell you they have a water issue before you book! I think having at least lukewarm water is a minimum but it was freezing cold but other than it was pretty nice it’s in walking distance from a lot so that’s helpful and the staff is nice but man just fix your water and this would be a place i would stay again
- 5/5
Great value. Comfortable bed. Clean room.
- 2/5
The hotel was ranked a 4 star hotel but there was nothing 4 star about it other than the location and the staff. The floors, bathroom sink and tub were dirty. Only two towels with one hand towel. We could hear way too mich
- 5/5
Room and everething are good
- 5/5
Quiet and peaceful despite being ust a stone's throw away from nightlife.
- 3/5
Everything was good, however the water heater was broken when I took a shower during my stay.
- 5/5
Genesis J Lopez
- 5/5
Nice and quiet place to stay in.
- 5/5
she let me in the room sooner
- 5/5
Staff and location was amazing, would highly recommend this hotel!
- 1/5
It was not good to go to the rooms with the luggage, because it did not have and elevator, floor was very dirty and the air condition unit was inside the room, you cannot sleep with the Noice
- 3/5
The room was ok, but a bit shabby. No hand soap, looks like the dispenser was missing from the wall, not great The hotel looked shabby from the outside especially the rear of the property.
- 5/5
Yes. Great view
- 4/5
Would stay there again
- 5/5
All good we like the place. I recommend to ensure that you have a ocean view riom. Otherwise you get parking lot view.
- 5/5
when we get a hotel in LA, we always go to this hotel, this time it was a last min trip and we could not get a room facing the beach which we love, we got a garden room with was really a street view. i will alway pick this hotel it so convenient with the restaurant and it’s about 15 minutes away from my mother-in-law and we loved beach and our room rates are amazing and the rooms are clean and people are wonderful that worked there
- 4/5
Staff was excellent great location could use some updating
- 5/5
Beautiful Beach View!
- 4/5
Good sleep but the rooms need a good coat of paint. Beware that the garden rooms (with a little patio) are actually on the street side and are the noisiest.
- 4/5
Views over Mother’s beach. Easy walk to all venues. Ample parking. Friendly staff. A little dated but very comfortable.
- 5/5
Great friendly staff. I was in a beautiful room overlooking Marina Del Rey, a few short blocks from Venice Beach. I could not have asked for a better experience on a budget, no less!
- 5/5
Clean rooms. Great and helpful staff. On the marina beach. No complaints.
- 1/5
Then while checking on my bank account I saw $100 total of extra charges from the hotel. When I called to ask about this the phone answered indicating that no one was available to take the call and unable to take a message as it had never been set up. How terribly convenient fr them. So I emailed them and they responded advising me that we left behind badly stained bedding and towels that they were unable to clean and had to replace. I responded that my sister fell asleep while holding chocolate, but that should wash out easily. I have yet to hear back from them. My next question to them will be what kind of washing machine fare you using and possibly THAT is what needs to be replaced. And also the detergent, please let me know so I don’t buy or use it. And lastly, just how clean are your rooms (bedding, sheets , etc) if you are incapable of washing chocolate out of them.
- 2/5
Staff was nice! Room was not
- 2/5
Staff was very nice and accommodating tried to give us a better room and fix things but in the end, I had to leave a day early even though non refundable.
- 1/5
As a person who use to reside in Marina Del Rey the city was always about convenience and beauty. This hotel and its staff fell far below that standard. The sign advertising the hotel itself was so faded out you could easily miss it, in the bath room the little iron shelf they provided for make up an toiletries was bent in a downwards position things kept falling to the floor. My view from my windows was broken and super dated furniture no longer used in the hotel. I could go on but I am just happy to be done with the experience. Never again!
- 5/5
Unbeatable location and view.
- 1/5
The breakfast was also terrible. I don't even think it can be called breakfast, so I'm not sure how they can sell it as "breakfast included." In addition, you need to use transportation to get to many places. We decided to go for a morning walk, and the beach area was very dirty. My family and I wanted to walk around, but it was so bad you couldn't even walk—there were glass shards and leftover food and drinks everywhere. I would say both the beach and the hotel are quite neglected.
- 4/5
Just outdated. Great view of the harbor beach, that’s what would bring us back. Best price of everything else around the beach.
- 5/5
The area was fantastic , clean , quiet . The perfect place to relax and enjoy the beach . Snacks every morning for breakfast , unlimited coffee at any time . Friendly staff, no issues whatsoever with this place
- 3/5
Old and ran down a little. Chipped paint on walls and furniture and my door was extremely hard to open
- 3/5
safe and quiet, beach is very close, which is nice. good value for the price.
- 3/5
- bathroom sink looks like it was tore off wall so repaired about 80%. Quick plaster and paint and would have been perfect. - ‘Breakfast included’ was false. Be more accurate. 3 granola bars, oatmeal packs and some fruit isn’t even continental breakfast. - no creamer for coffee. Desk said ‘waiting on delivery’. Cream is $5 at store. One of the three front desk people sitting around, get up and go get it. Excellent location though. Rest was good.
- 5/5
Marina and beach view!
- 5/5
Such a cute little hotel right on the beach! We got the upgraded room with the balcony. Room was clean and has microwave, mini fridge, and smart tv so you can log into netflix if you wish. Hotel doesnt have many amenities like a gym or pool or anything but the view and relaxing ambiance makes up for it. They have a water machine in the lobby. We had a wonderful stay and the staff was so nice and accommodating! It has complimentary parking, is right next door to the cheesecake factory and is a few minute drive from venice beach. Would definitely stay again!
- 3/5
The facility is run down and the room wasn’t very clean. While it serviced its purpose and the location is great I likely wouldn’t stay again due to feeling like it wasn’t clean enough for me.
- 5/5
My partner and our son stayed here for 3 nights in August. The hotel staff were friendly and efficient, our room was spacious and comfortable (with a lovely balcony overlooking the marina) and the free parking lot was incredibly useful. Great value, would recommend!
- 5/5
Great place, sometimes they have good deals.
- 5/5
Loved staying at Foghorn Harbor, it was a quaint, lovely, and comfortable place! Definitely coming back :)
- 5/5
Only thing I didn’t like was that you can hear between walls.
- 5/5
Nice place with plenty of parking.
- 5/5
I had some cleaning issues but nothing that could “end” my weekend! We had an especial time at the hotel is very well located! We love to watch the sunrise from our balcony room!
- 5/5
Lovely views
- 4/5
This place is perfect if you just want an affordable place by the water and don’t need anything fancy. It’s a great location and the staff were kind enough to let us use the parking lot before check in so we could just explore the area. The rooms are definitely pretty worn out though (holes/stains in the sheets) but comfortable enough.
- 3/5
Nice location. The amenities were very basic.
- 1/5
This is one of the grossest places that i have stayed at in my entire life. Since I am 73, that is saying a lot!
- 3/5
Its time to make some improvements, upgrades, and/or do some exterior and interior painting. Otherwise, this a really cool hotel and centrally located. The front desk employees were attentive , knowledgeable and friendly.
- 5/5
It was great to experience the beach in summer. Our room has been recently painted and we were welcomed by the front desk in an appropriate way.
- 4/5
My home away from home when staying in Marina Del Rey. Please don’t let the world know about this great little hotel.
- 3/5
My patio room was very large with old fittings but, a comfortable bed. There's no tea/coffee making facilities in room which was a pain(for me) but, there's a communal coffee machine in the reception foyer. Location was good, very handy for numerous dining and bar options, many within a 5-10 walk. I was driven by price so I'm happy to do a bit of "camping" to save a few hard earned bucks... I would go back but, might bring my own kettle and mug next time...
- 4/5
Great location and marina views! Breakfast was easy grab-and-go. Room had stains and knicks on things, looked a bit outdated and worn, but the location and views made up for it.
- 4/5
The room itself was spacious and offered a lovely view of the waterfront and the city beach. Having a Cheesecake Factory right next door was convenient. One minor drawback is the abandoned store building next to the hotel – it’s not the most pleasant sight and at first gave a slight sense of unease, but during our stay everything felt safe and quiet. Breakfast is light, mostly snacks, so you might want to follow it up with something more filling at Starbucks. Overall comfortable and safe, though the price feels high for what it is.
- 5/5
The view
- 5/5
Good location nice room and staff
- 5/5
Our room view was amazing
- 4/5
For a family vacay it was a good place to rest! Cheesecake factory nextdoor! Comfy bed room was awesome cause it faced the harbor
- 5/5
Great experience my family really enjoyed the stay love the patio area. Will definitely recommend and book future visits at this location. Thanks to the staff for a great experience ❤️
- 5/5
Great location, walkable to everything! Front desk staff were kind and helpful. Would stay again!
- 1/5
I was charged $56 because my kid cleaned up coffee with one of the towels.
- 3/5
The highlights: The beds and pillows were really comfortable. Nice location right on to the beach. Liked that it had a balcony to sit out when kids went to bed. Easy, plentiful parking. Not so good: We were next to the stairs and it was really quite noisy throughout the night with people coming back to their rooms, we were woken up a lot. Breakfast was not a lot: coffee, pain au chocolates, cereal bar and squeeze fruit pouches.
- 5/5
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Great location as well.
- 5/5
So spacious and relaxing thank you!
- 5/5
Great service! Will stay again
- 2/5
This place makes the motel in my name is earl look to notch, things are rusty in the bathroom, the room smelled , it early needs a paint job and repairs. Location is good, but it a very average motel for the price
- 1/5
This place is out dated in has mold in side of the refrigerator, the air conditioner false advertise, I was under the impression I was booking double room should have took a picture. When booking it's overprice.
- 5/5
Don't let the pictures online fool you. Foghorn was a really nice hotel to stay at. It's nicer in person than the pictures lead you to believe. Foghorn is conveniently located to the beach and dining places. The price was outstanding, especially for the area that it is in. I highly recommend the Foghorn to anyone. I was pleasantly surprised how nice it is.
- 4/5
Is an old hotel on the beach but very clean. You have to accept the noise on the beach and marina has helicopter and police sirens all the time. It is just this area. But, happy for the price and care staff gave me
- 5/5
Free on-site parking and close to Venice beach.
- 3/5
Was expecting to have a balcony room. Instead we had a long, narrow, concrete block walled in patio with very limited view. I had to cross the parking lot, walk along the sidewalk, down a long cement area and up some outdoor stairs that were filthy dirty to get in a door because there was no handrail on the only other staircase. I really thought that it said it had an elevator, but I may have mixed it up with another location. It was okay for one night, but now that I know what to expect, I will not stay there again.
- 5/5
We had a lovely stay at Foghorn Harbor Inn in February. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The room was a little bit dated, but very clean and cozy. Loved backing onto the little private beach. Area is not super central, but we did walk to a lovely little area of Venice Beach! Overall, it was a great budget stay and I would definitely recommend.
- 4/5
It's definitely dated, but you can't beat the price at this location. It was nice to have a view of the marina, but please be aware that it faces a public beach and can be quite loud at times. They offer free "breakfast" but it's not worth bothering with. There is free self-serve coffee 24 hours a day, which is nice. I would stay here again if I am ever back in the area.
- 5/5
The hotel sits right on Mothers Beach with access right into the sand. Cheesecake Factory is right next to the hotel. The property itself is old with some renovations but is overall very clean and appropriate for a quick overnighter and even a weekend trip. High recommend booking the patio rooms on the lower level. Excellent view of the marina right from your room.
- 1/5
Terrible
- 3/5
Staff were very pleasant. Room was very dated, furnishing cheap and seemed old. However it was very clean and bed was comfortable.
- 3/5
Dirty curtains and tissues under bed plus sand in floor near and under bed room smelled a little bit
- 4/5
Two little things : there should be at leat 2 hand towels instead of one and the water could be hotter. The staff is very nice. Will definitely come back.
- 4/5
All went well.
- 5/5
The staff was very accommodating and helpful!
- 5/5
Staff was super friendly and helpful
- 3/5
Don’t depend on ‘breakfast’ as it’s really a single Kurig for everyone to make coffee and oatmeal. Everything was prepackaged sugar treats. My bed was broken and I let them know after the first night. It was never fixed. The key is a long piece of plastic with holes in it. It’s unique for sure, but they only give you one and make you sign a paper stating that you understand the key is irreplaceable and not manufactured anymore - talk about MAJOR pressure!!
- 5/5
They were absolutely very accommodating to myself and my pup and very friendly
- 3/5
We needed a last minutes stay near LAX for an early morning flight for our elderly in-laws.
- 4/5
We only had a short time stay in this property but I love the fact that it is so near the LAX airport and a lot of restaurants nearby.
- 5/5
One of the highlights for me was the outdoor area of my room, which had a beautiful sea view. It was top-notch — not only perfect for enjoying the scenery, but also ideal for working remotely. I spent the whole week working from that outdoor space and found it to be incredibly comfortable and quiet. I highly recommend this place for digital nomads looking for a serene yet inspiring environment. While the hotel itself offers calm and tranquility, it's just a short 13-minute walk to the vibrant Venice Beach. There you’ll find an energetic atmosphere, fun activities, and plenty of great restaurants to explore. The hotel staff were outstanding — from the receptionists to the housekeeping team, everyone was warm, professional, and always ready to help when needed. Their service really added to the quality of the stay. All in all, this is a perfect place to enjoy the best of both worlds: peaceful beachfront living and access to Venice’s lively scene. I can’t wait to come back!
- 3/5
weekend getaway. Great location but Motel needs up updating.
- 4/5
Convenient for a few days. It’s great for what you pay for in that area.
- 3/5
Staff was friendly, breakfast is a quick granola bar and nothing much. Coffee was good. The location is safe, and there were some nice bars to see around; however, they close early. View is towards the Harbor. No cable TV, just air stations. I did not feel as comfortable as advertised for the price, and the location is farther away from the beach than I thought. Just a nice harbor stay.
- 5/5
Great location, expect some noise from people playing on the beach.
- 5/5
A great room, convenient and a wonderful room with a view you don’t want to give up.
- 5/5
The cutest hotel honestly. They have their own little beach on the marina. The “breakfast” is nothing to write home about (instant oatmeal, granola bars, apple sauce, pain au chocolat, cups of fruit, if I remember correctly) but it’s super handy for on-the-go. AND—they have coffee in the lobby whenever you want. So is it a super ritzy hotel? No, but I REALLY enjoyed my stay. Rooms were clean and not old or outdated. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Honestly it was such a nice, easy stay that I almost want to leave a bad review to keep this place to myself as a little secret. I am looking forward to staying here again just to relax and enjoy the marina. Thank you, Foghorn Harbor Inn!
- 5/5
Quaint little place we had a nice view. We arrived early and our room was ready so the wonderful staff let us check in early .the room was nice very relaxing. Yes I would definitely recommend this hotel
- 4/5
Clean rooms, spacious patio, fridge and microwave were all positives for us. We had no cold water in the sink, but the shower was fine. I had called the day before I checked in and they had informed me of some plumbing issues they were having. It wasn't enough to upset our stay - just meant we had to wash our hands super fast before they got burned, lol! The staff was wonderful, very friendly and informative. They even offered to give us our grab-and-go-breakfast early because we had a race starting before the 7:00am breakfast availability.
- 5/5
nice room, helpful staff, nice views. not much for breakfast.
- 4/5
Location, free parking. Friendly staff.
- 5/5
It was fun
- 1/5
They did not return my deposit
- 5/5
Calm, quiet, cozy, affordable & great location. Perfect for families & dogs. Great view of the Marina. Kayak/ paddle boards for rent on the beach. Staff was very kind & helpful.
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and accommodating, the room was clean and comfortable, true gem of Marina del Rey
- 1/5
Horrible .
- 5/5
The property was in a convenient area close to the markets and the beach. The staff were very helpful & generous it made the trip a memorable experience! I will be coming back soon!
- 4/5
Staff at front desk were very helpful
- 2/5
Dirty. Poor quality. Broken stuff in the room. “Free breakfast “ was snacks and coffee from 7-9 which we missed.
- 5/5
It’s a small hotel with rooms facing the bay that have a balcony or patio depending on if you are first floor or 2nd floor. Rooms on orher side don’t face the water, so make sure you’re getting the one you want. I’m not picky and have nothing bad to say. I would say if you’re a hotel snob you probably wouldn’t like this place and should stay somewhere more expensive. For our budget and the location, we loved it!
- 5/5
Loved it! Will definitely go back.
- 5/5
It had a really chill vibe.
- 5/5
Great view of Mother's Beach, the private patio is a bonus. Fridge and microwave made it nice for a longer stay. The staff was excellent!!! What could improve is outdated bathroom and included breakfast items. Overall great experience thank you!
- 5/5
Great staff, very welcoming. Location is awesome and the rooms were perfect.
- 5/5
Very clean and very friendly I would definitely stay there
- 5/5
We have been staying here every year for our anniversary for 35 years and it never disappoints!!!! Thank you!!!!
- 1/5
I ubered here all the way from the San Fernando valley the night before to ensure I made it to my much anticipated first meeting with my gym and life coach. Upon getting in the shower this morning I gently placed my hand on the edge of the sink to balance my hop over and sink completely disconnected from the wall causing me to sleep and fall, my hip took the fall hard, saving me from what could’ve been a bad head injury. This trip cost me $400 which is going down the drain cancelled my workout because I’m in excruciating pain.
- 5/5
Great location, clean rooms. Great customer service love that they provide a small breakfast for you and free parking safe and secure location.
- 5/5
Our shower had some issues and didn't drain well. We talked to the front desk numerous times during our stay and they tried to fix it but were never successful. So showers had to be brief. But the price and easy parking made it a great place to stay. We would definitely go back.
- 2/5
The accommodation was more like a hostel than a hotel. Everything in our room was old and shabby and needed replacing. The carpet was threadbare, the bathroom door was rotten at the bottom and had broken away, there had been something spilt up the back of the bathroom door and the hot water took forever to heat. There was no breakfast as described, just a poor cereal bar and a coffee machine which guests were expected to fill the water up themselves. We stayed at 9 different hotels on this holiday which were all a similar price, but this was by far the poorest. I would not recommend this hotel.
- 1/5
Rooms are loud and while they say they are renovated, they are terrible. Also, they never refunded the $50 hold. I had to call days later and they said they would refund it. They never did so I had to challenge it with my credit card company. It’s a scammy place. Not worth it
