The hotel has a great location, close to the beach and local shops and restaurants. However, the rooms are outdated, dirty, and in need of renovation. The staff is friendly, but the service is poor, with long waits for check-in and unresponsive management.

    So we checked in we didn't realize in the back on the beach was closed the city was refurbishing the beaches which was an end of the world they were working during the daytime but come night time they were working all night backup alarm deep and beeping beeping beeping right straight opposite of our room they were picking up the 40-ft lake diameter pipe and drop them all night long I called the front desk at 11:00 ask him about this situation they said they couldn't do anything about it but I told him they could have warned me about it I went to stay there I got zero sleep the most horrific situation I've ever been in and a hotel beware.

    Cons: Checking in is a challenge the way the parking lot is laid out does not allow smooth flow of traffic. There is no table in the room except for a very tiny one. Room is small. There is no closet in the room. The partial view of the ocean is tiny and you mostly see the building next to you.

    voco The Shelby is right on the beach and has a pool that overlooks the beach too. The room was a good size and very modern. Also very clean. It looked as if the bathroom had recently been updated and the shower was super powerful! The pool area was very relaxing and bar serving drinks and snacks. Pool towels were available too. There's plenty of car parking space, some just outside the hotel and some just across the road. A special mention to all the staff who were all so friendly and welcoming!! voco The Shelby is arranged in three adjacent blocks. We were in the center block, which also has the reception area in it. We noted that this block only has one elevator which was often quite busy. Busy with guests busy also with the staff. So you could often find yourself sharing the elevator with staff pushing trolleys full of towels, bedding or housekeeping materials etc.

    Good location on the beach, but the place is dated and could use an upgrade. Was charged $75 for my dog for 1 night, even though she is fully housebroken, quiet and well trained. Mentioned in the booking “there may be a fee,” but no mention that it would be so high.

    Based on the pictures I expected this to be a luxury hotel. However, it’s definitely run down. The rooms are okay- beds fairly comfortable. The entire hotel runs short staffed so everything is delayed. Order a burger and fries at pool and it took over an hour. The staff at restaurant and pool bar seem very stressed; they are working hard but need a lot more employees to make things run smoothly. Would not recommend staying here.

    During my stay at the Shelby Hotel in Myrtle Beach, a pair of my designer sunglasses disappeared from my room between 7:00 PM and midnight on June 5. After reporting the incident, management provided a lock access report showing that at approximately 8:20 PM, a different guest key attempted to access my room. I was not on the property at that time and can document my whereabouts. (Watching the NBA playoffs) Despite this concerning information, I was told there are no cameras on the second floor and no further investigation was conducted beyond reviewing the lock report. I’m 100% confident that it a staff member was involved. What concerns me most is not just the missing property, but the apparent lack of security measures and follow-up. An unknown key attempted to access my room while I was away, yet there was no clear explanation, no meaningful investigation, and ultimately I was advised to file a police report on my own. As someone who travels frequently and works as an event planner, this is one of the most troubling hotel experiences I’ve had. Guests should feel confident that their belongings are secure and that potential security breaches will be taken seriously. If you’re considering staying here, I strongly encourage you to use your room safe, keep valuables with you, and be aware of the security concerns I experienced. Even for something as little as shades. The downside to that is your whole suitcase cannot fit in there.

    The only thing I have to say is that we checked in about 11:30pm Friday night the lady at the desk, was not very welcoming maybe she had a bad day. But over all we had a great stay. Rooms are clean and pool area is clean.

If no available spots at hotel the parking garage is not across the street it's on the other side of another hotel. Also only one microwave in the lobby. Wish there were microwaves in the rooms.     It was right on the beach and staff was all extremely friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable and room was extremely clean. I wish there had been a hot tub and laundry services. My only complaint is that there could be more chairs by the pool and the chairs could use a good cleaning, but there were always plenty of towels to be put down on chairs

    Was found open with my belongings inside. The staff was helpful pleasant and knowledgeable. My room was perfect minus not having a microwave considering we ate out everyday one microwave in the lobby for the whole property seemed insane. I would def recommend the Shelby for future stays and I will be back!

    Nice lazy river and clean pool area. My issue came In with parking concrete blocks. Rebar sticking out of these blocks Messed up my bumper. Affordable garage did a quick fix with some zip ties but that only a temporary fix since we were here only for 2 nights and had to get back home. 2nd issue parking it could be hard to find parking close to the hotel you might have to park across the hotel at the parking garage. Rest was all peachy.

    The staff at the Palm and Pebble were the highlight of our stay. Very accommodating. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. For negatives, there should have been signs indicating the parking areas for IHG members because cones don't really give the public the proper impression. Also, the pool area should be open later. It boggled my mind as to why the area even had beautiful accent

    Had an issue at check in they could not find my reservation that was booked that morning (9am), I arrived at about 2pm through Expedia. They had issues finding it and the manager had to get involved. Never found out what the issue was nor received any apologies. Just was not a pleasant first impression experience but overall the hotel was decent.

    Great view but older hotel. Employees were EXCELLENT. The floors in the room were dirty and sticky. Apparently they got inspected by the owners when we were there. The last couple of days many of the Employees were doing MAJOR CLEANING, PAINTING AND REPAIR BROKEN ITEMS in the hotel and pool area!!! My only dislikes were the floors and terrible parking area!!!

    The pool definitely needs to be HEATED!!!! There were kids in the pool cause they don’t care but couldn’t use the pool cause it was like a cold plunge. Restaurant staff could be a little nicer and helpful. We were there when a new person just started that day and whoever was training him needed to be trained herself especially in customer service. Over all this is a nice hotel and would stay again. They just need to make a few adjustments. Hey all my opinion and you know what opinions are like lol.

    We were on the 7th floor so we could see the beac & ocean for days! Easy access to tge beach as well. We were in tge 2nd tower & there was not an ice machine in that building you had to go to the main. Seemed odd but we dealt with it. We thought the pool bar would be open daily but it was not. Im not sur if its because we were there the last week of April or not. Oh & the lazy river is tiny! Lol. We overall had a great stay & our bed git a 10 out of 10 for sure!

    Mold in bathroom; When we left for an afternoon, we got back to our room half redone- one bed was made but the other was not; trash had been taken out of the bathroom but not the bedroom; the coffee items and condiments had not been cleaned up, but some of our items were moved. It was unusual. Staff was welcoming, but overall quality of the property was lower considering the price. View of the beach was nice. It's in a good location but I will not stay here again; price does not match quality.

    I checked out a day early. It was not a relaxing vacation or environment. It was noisy at night, when we were trying to sleep. People loud in the halls and room beside us. I would not recommend this place if you have children. I'm very disappointed!

    My credit card got stolen by housekeeping/room service. Rooms were dirty and covered in pet fur. I wore new socks and within minutes they were completely ruined by the floors. The WiFi wasn’t given to us/poor internet service. Housekeeping took forever to restock our room with towels and/or toilet paper when we called down to the front lobby. The lazy river had a green tint and there was bird droppings in the main pool. I’m never returning to this facility again.

    I loved our room on the most upper floor looking at the ocean. It was a peaceful stay for the week. We were able to take naps midday with the balcony door open. Slept all night with the door open too. It was wonderful. The staff are great! I was concerned because when I’d call before my trip, no one would answer the phone. Brittany checked ya in and I had a request for an upper room with a walk in shower. Brittany came through! I appreciate the effort. It was cold when we came but saw many people using the pool and we watched the pool guy take care of it in the mornings. One elevator during check-in and check-out could get tricky but we learned when to come and go. All the staff were wonderful. We declined housekeeping because we had dogs and didn’t want them to bark if we happened to be there when the knock came. we made sure to collect all of our trash for them collectively in one bag and gathered the bedding and towels for them. We wanted to be no trouble for anyone. Our dogs were perfect and comfortable there. Plenty of other animals and all were well behaved. All hotels should allow our pets like this one does. Responsible owners bring well behaved pets. We don’t get down south often but we’ll be back there if we end up in Myrtle again. Thank you everyone!!!

    The hotel is clean and looks like its been updated while maintaining a bit of the art deco vibe- very cute. The rooms are decent size as well. However, here are some of the things I did not enjoy over paying for. I paid for ocean view room and was placed on the first floor with a pool view (you couldn't see the ocean with all the pool items in the way). I also paid for the breakfast package it was about $114 for two of us for 2 days. When we arrived at check in they forgot to give us the breakfast voucher- which has the audacity to say "complimentary breakfast for two" which its not since I paid, then the voucher also states it is up to hotel staff discretion if they allow you to pick from the buffet or an entree from the menu - fine. First day, we were given the buffet which was 1) eggs 2) pork sausage 3) turkey sausage 4) potatoes 5) oatmeal or 6) banana/ apples. While it was a basic buffet it was NOT $25 worth, the options were super limited, the breakfast was 30 min late to be ready. Day two we choose the menu entree and again, very basic. Just not worth the price. The marketplace in the lobby was BARE the whole time and they never refilled it.

I will never recommend this hotel to anyone, staff seem unprofessional and everything looks disorganized. We regretted booking this hotel; it’s the worst experience ever in my life with regards to hotel accommodation.

    This was our second time back. This time we brought the kids. They had a great time. The property is wonderful and the staff are friendly overall. The only downside is there aren't many amenities/extras like a microwave or free breakfast or beach cabanas for rent. They should also open the bar at the pool area. They should invest in ice machines in each building as well because its very inconvenient to get ice in only 1 of the 3. When we stayed last time it was just adults so it wasn't as bad but with kids it gets inconvenient. We had a few other minor hiccups like fridge not working properly and no towels at check-in but overall a good stay.

    Late check-in requirement at 4:00 pm, but room still not ready even though the hotel seemed relatively empty. Room cleaning was clearly rushed as towels were on the bed and the toilet was not cleaned. Check out was at 11:00 am but house cleaning was banging on the door at 9:30 am. Kinda annoying.

    The hotel itself is somewhat dated but it was clean. Parking is across the street, typical for an oceanside hotel. There are multiple buildings as well. Only real issue was check-in. With a checkout time of 11, or room was still not ready at 4:30 when we tried to check-in. Pool atlrea and Tiki Bar were nice and the beach is right there.

    Billie Jean, Abby and Britney at the front were all wonderful and a pleasure to chat with. When we arrived, there was a long line and even though some people had zero patience, Brittney kept her cool and was still professional and warm. All the housekeeping staff were also lovely to connect with and always had smiles on their faces. The company has done a great job rebranding the hotel (I always stayed at the former Sandcastle before it was bought out) and the location is the one of the best. The staff at the on site restaurant were also friendly and welcoming. I also loved the stainless steel water bottles they provided instead of plastic. :) However, I do have a few suggestions. We only received 2 bath towels and definitely needed more. There was a large piece of wood in the bathroom that covered the sink pipes under the actual sink and it unfortunately fell on my child’s foot because it wasn’t fully screwed in. Coffee down in the lobby wasn’t made until later in the morning and it would have been nice to have it a bit earlier. Overall, it was a great stay for me and my 2 children!

Not once was our bed made in 5 days, we even put the card out every day for 3 days until we finally got some fresh towels and the dirty ones picked up. The tiki bar by the pool was only open for half an hour on our first day there. We also had a 4 hour wait for our room after we were up at 3am and took 2 flights to get there. Won’t be going back.

    We had a fantastic view of the beach and pool. Our room was super clean and was cleaned well during our stay. The hotel was full and pet friendly, but we never heard another family or pet when in our room and the quiet was a nice surprise. Staff was ALWAYS friendly and helpful. They held the elevator, asked about our stay and over all very warm. My only feedback was that the hot breakfast buffet was inconsistent. Dishes prepared really well one day and almost burnt the next. Sometimes there was yogurt or grits and other days they were not out. The hit or miss aspects of breakfast made it nothing great. Overall would highly recommend for a beach getaway. Great location, clean rooms, friendly staff and beautiful oceanfront view!

    The entire staff was friendly. We had hair in our shower that wasn’t ours. The tiki bar was closed each day. It’s an older hotel, revamped. The balcony was small but had a good view. Bed was comfortable and the hotel was actually very quiet for spring break. Expected more based on reviews, but overall was comfortable and decent location to additional amenities (boardwalk area).

    Checking in was a nightmare. It seems they are understaffed. We showed up at 4:10pm, which check-in is listed at 4:00pm and was told rooms are not clean and it will be at least another hour before our room would be ready. When we started asking questions and stated this was inconvenient the clerk said “you don’t need to stay here then”. Worst customer service I have ever dealt with and we travel quite often.

    The first issue we had was check-in was supposed to be at 4 PM. We were not able to get into a room until 6:45 PM. When we initially went in to check in they gave me a room number and said when that room was done being cleaned. They would contact us when we finally were able to get into the room. It was not that room. They had given it to a woman that had complained about her room and then gave mine away. It was was complete Chaos when we went to check in. We’re told that because we booked third-party through Expedia there was no compensation or anything that they were given to us like that was a crime booking through a third-party company and not booking directly through them. Many people book third-party that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be able to check in on time.

    The fridge in the room didn’t work, and there was no microwave in the room. I only found out days later that there was a microwave in the main lobby building, which is something that should have been mentioned on the first day. The shower was also leaking badly—I had to use towels just to keep the floor dry. To make matters worse, I even found someone else’s false lashes on the floor in the room—completely unacceptable and very unhygienic. The room itself looked very old and felt more like a motel than a hotel. On top of that, the front desk did not answer the phones, and even basic amenities like the iron were not working. After third day they tidy the room only one side. Overall, the experience was frustrating and did not meet expectations. The only thing good is the location.

    I got there at 3:30pm check in was at 4pm I was told my room was not ready to come back at 4. I came back at 4pm I was told that it was still not ready and that I could go to the pool or bar while I wait until they notify me. I told the lady that I wanted to talk to the manager she replied saying “we had people waiting for 5 hours yesterday.” I told her that I would like to talk to the manager. Very rude the manager didn’t want to come out the office. They should at least compensate the guests if they have to wait that long.

    -You want to stay in a room you actually booked. We booked a suite that sleeps six and got a room with one bed initially. We called to confirm the day before and day of but when we arrived, they did not accommodate us with the proper room. We were eventually moved to a room with two beds but still not the room we paid for and reserved. Even after seeing a supervisor in the morning, we were told we would not receive the proper room. -You value cleanliness. This was the dirtiest hotel we have ever stayed in. We went to the Dollar General around the corner and bought cleaning supplies to scrub our room. -You might need an extra blanket. We called the front desk as directed and it took four hours before we eventually went to the front desk (a building over) to simply wait there for the blanket. When handed to me by an empathetic staff member, the person at the front desk said that it may have been someone else's blanket who called. -You get a voucher for breakfast. The voucher expressly states that you'd be entitled to one menu item and unlimited non-alcoholic beverage. When we presented it to request a sandwich, the staff indicated that it was only redeemable for the buffet as of (conveniently) that day. The buffet had run out of pancakes, had no toast; only eggs, undercooked bacon, and potatoes. No other options. Overall, this was the worst stay we've ever had in a hotel. The beach and nearby attractions were wonderful.

    Breakfast was terrible and it put me in a bad mood all day. On the first day I waited forever, so on the second day I timed everything with my watch. I waited 15 minutes just to order coffee and oatmeal—and they took orders from people who arrived after me and even served them first. Then I waited another 31 minutes for the oatmeal. It really seemed like they were giving priority to guests who weren’t using hotel vouchers and paying more. The first day I left a tip, which I regret. The second day I tipped because it felt rude not to, but they don’t care either way. Stay away from this restaurant; go somewhere else, enjoy the beautiful beach, and don’t let them ruin your vacation.

Perfectly located to most attraction. The rooms have been recently renovated which was a great surprise.     The room was fairly clean but it looked like a hotel that had been painted but still old. They were significantly short staffed and the people working were complaining the entire time and speaking bad about the hotel. I was also freezing in my room and had to come to the front desk in person because the person I spoke to could not tell me the heat regulator was not on the wall. At breakfast, it took over one hour to get a sandwich and coffee, hence the next day I didn’t even bother. The location is good and I didn’t even try any amenities because it was cold. The only thing convenient was the free parking.

    My husband and I spent this past weekend at voco the Shelby for my birthday and I was amazed at the atmosphere! We have spent many summers prior when the hotel was Sand Castle, and there is no comparison now. I cannot tell people the last time I spent a night in a hotel bed that was actually COMFORTABLE as my own bed is at home until this trip! The layout and decorations of the hotel are beautiful, the staff is very friendly and made us feel as if we were at home. The room was exceptionally clean, looks neat and new, and we had quiet when we needed it at night. The hotel is located in the heart of everything you want to do and the view of the beach from the balcony is breathtaking. This will be the hotel we reserve a booking for each time we visit Myrtle Beach in the future. One thing I'd recommend is a microwave in the rooms, as ours didn't have one. Also, bring back the hot tub! I was looking for that! :)

    It was an amazing trip. The staff was very friendly very helpful. The manager was excellent. Took care of any matter right away. Very good with return anytime.

    Overall found it just what I wanted, pet friendly, convenient, oceanfront. restaurant proximity. (good food) Other thing I would recommend is literature, maps of streets, restaurants, activities nearby, there was nothing in the rooms. Other than hearing a couple fighting at night the stay was great, I would do it agailn.!

    We could see the ocean from our room as well. The ocean is certainly different to what we’re used to, so you might want to bring water shoes if you’re going to be going into the ocean, since the shells are everywhere. Restaurants, arcades and shops are all readily available and in walking distance. I was also easily able to go on runs whilst feeling incredible safe. Prices for everything, including the hotel were incredible reasonable. I would highly recommend this hotel. Staff were extremely helpful and kind. We will visit again.

    Me and my best friend recently stayed at Voco The Shelby and we were very pleased. The staff were all helpful and accommodating to our needs. The room was very nice, clean, and quiet on the 8th floor. The shower pressure was the best we have ever had at a hotel. A lamp on the nightstand would have been nice and directions on how to use the coffee maker would have been helpful. The pool and lazy river were clean and although servers made sure we had drinks pool side, it would have been even better if the Tiki Bar was open. Voco is within walking distance to many Myrtle Beach attractions. Overall this newly renovated hotel gets an 8 out of 10! Thanks for a great stay and we will definitely recommend you to others!

    The stay was great. The hotel had just opened so some services were limited. The staff was friendly; however, there was a barking dog in the adjacent room most of the morning. But this was not addressed quickly since the front desk didn’t answer the phone deposited many calls.
