Reviews
The hotel's location near Times Square is its most praised feature, offering easy access to various attractions. However, the hotel is frequently criticized for being old, with small rooms and various maintenance issues.
- Excellent location near Times Square and other attractions
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Hotel is old and in need of updates
- Rooms are small and may have maintenance issues

It was in an excellent location, with the subway nearby. There were many options for food within 2 blocks, as well as a CVS, and theaters. The staff were very nice. If you read that the room is 125ft squared, and you don't understand that it is small... well... it is. Tea and coffee for most of the day in the lobby. The bed was super comfortable, black out curtains, comfy pillows, AC, and the bathroom was adequate with a nice shower. The TV could rotate so we could watch in bed. It had a closet/hangars/safe. We didn't spend much time in the room as we did touristy things all day. It was pretty much like the pictures and exactly as expected. It could use a small dresser to put clothes in.
- 3.5/5
The staff was nice and helpful. The bed comfortable. Tea and coffee available in the lobby. Lot of choice of teas and infusion. But it would be also nice to have a small kettle in the room so you don't have to go 4 floors in pyjamas to have a warm drink before going to bed. There was a constant noise (air blowing). It probably came from all the A/C installations fixed outside the building. It was hard for me to fall asleep. I had some earplugs,.it helped a bit. Also, the hotel charges you for keeping your luggage 2$/bag. It is clearly stated when you book, but many others don't charge you for that service.

The location is perfect. Very central and close to metro lines, central park and times square. Room was clean. And they cleaned the room every day as well. No smell or bad stuff. Completely renovated. They have tea and coffee 24/7 at the reception. They helped with the luggages on the day of check out. Room is too small. It is expected considering ny city circumstances however the view is also blocked with air conditioning pipes and a large wall outside so you almost have no sunlight in the room. Also air conditioning system noise from outside. We stayed 5 days so it was manageable.

I’d be nice to have a small bedside table and a chair (it’s a small room, which I have no problem with but there was room for a small side table and chair)

No breakfast offered, and was not expecting it. I left very early to beat traffic. I was in town to see a play at the Wintergarden Theater, a short walk away. Reserved parking, directly across the street, and lots of restaurants nearby. My room was tiny and without a view, which was fine! It was spotless, stylish, ample lighting and perfect for a quick overnight theater visit in the heart of the theater district. Also-As it was an interior room, it was very quiet. I was completely satisfied, so this does not apply. Exactly what I needed as a single guest.

This is a basic but nice hotel in an excellent location near times square. We liked it because it was afordable and still comfortable and in a good area that made it easy to go anywhere we wanted to in mid-town. The elevator was very small so that was the only issue we had,......generally a very nice place to stay if you want to save a little in NY. Very small elevator.
- 4.5/5
Staff very friendly and helpful. We were able to leave bags before we checked in for free and afterwards for a small fee. Free hot drinks in reception a bonus! Rooms are small but do the job if only staying for a night or two, especially as location is perfect!

Great location - easy walk to restaurants, theaters, and the Central Park. Friendly staff. Clean, well-equipped rooms. I was lucky to get a room on the 5th floor, which wasn't as dark as lower floors and very quiet, for NYC. It's quite dark in the rooms facing the courtyard because the next building is barely 2 yards away, and the windows don't open.

The location is excellent, the room was clean, the shower was good, the bed was comfortable and the staff were very friendly. While the room is small, they have a luggage rack, hangers for clothes and a couple of shelves for items. I left a laundry sack in the room by mistake and I was able to return and pick it up from housekeeping the next day. The floor needed repairs. There were pieces of clear packing tape holding down the wood (vinyl) strips. In one place there wasn't tape and I was afraid the edges would give me a splinter or something if I wasn't careful when barefoot. While the bed was comfortable, the pillows were extremely thick and not comfortable for your neck.

Location. Room was nice adequate. Coffee in lobby. Kept it bags for us when we arrived early and after we checked out. Shower door would not stay closed. Told front desk. The room was hot and could not change. Staff very hesitant to give us later check out. Had 2 pm Broadway show then to train and home. Wanted to stay until 12:30-1 Stayed 11:30. Staff could have told us a few things at check in like ice is here at front desk. Also we were traveling with our teenage granddaughter and wanted two rooms close together. We arrived at hotel at 10:30 and explained this when we left our bags. When we came back at 5 pm they could put us on same floor.

- 3/5
The location. I did not like the shoebox size rooms. I did not like that you had to ask the front desk for ice. I did not like the claustrophobic, shoe box elevator that was slow as molasses. I did not like that the staff prioritized their needs over the guests aka monopolizing the shoe box sized elevator during peak hours when guests were trying to leave in the morning and return in the evening. I did not like that they only had one elevator. I did not like the smell of the lobby.

Location! This is not a modern building but it was neat as a pin and very clean. While room is small but ok for 1 the bathroom was quite large with a good shower. Appreciated the mini fridge and although I did not use it there was a system that allowed you to view things from mobile devices. Also a card on really helpful in like closest pharmacy, grocery even psychic! Multiple outlets in useful places. Only thing was there was very limited storage in the room and in bathroom. Also no side table next to bed. I moved a stool next to the bed. My room on 6th floor ( of 7) towards the back was kind of noisy, outside noise like sirens etc no sound at all from other rooms. Would stay here again. Only thing was there was very limited storage in the room and in bathroom. Also no side table next to bed. I moved a stool next to the bed. This is really a prime location if most of your activities are around Time Square and Central Park. I appreciate the free tea and coffee. Rooms are a bit cramped, and so is the bathroom. The shower was not the best but it did the job. It's still a good price for a good location.

The location is terrific if you are going to the theater. The room is attractive but small and has limited storage space. The shower was excellent. There was coffee and tea available in the lobby all the time. The lobby is clean but kind of shabby - not the furniture, which is fine, but the very old wood walls, which showed deep cracks in many of the panels. There is no soundproofing so you can hear the traffic outside.
- 4.5/5
Location, staff and there is coffee, tea and water at the lobby If you stay in the front rooms it might be noisy but my room back in the back side
- 4.5/5
The staff was really helpful and friendly. The location was perfect and was walking distance to everything I needed to get to during my stay. There was a worn patch on the floor that I kept stubbing my foot on, but it was just a minor inconvenience.
- 5/5
The location of the hotel was excellent. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The room was clean. We will definitely be back. Our view from our room was an alleyway but we didn't book for the view.
- 4/5
I like the how nice the staff is. I like that they offer coffee and tea. I love how close it is to all the theaters and easy to get to and from all the touristy attractions. Generally feel safe in the area. I didn’t like that my room had a damaged floor that made it uncomfortable to walk on. Also some of the wallpaper was coming up from the wall. The room had some wear and tear from my last visit in the same exact room that I enjoyed the year before.
- 5/5
I may have been upgraded due to room availability and length of stay, so my feedback might be better than others. I loved that the tiny room was cleaned daily, had an ironing board, and the TV worked. It was well designed. Hope it stays looking this fresh.
- 1.5/5
The location was perfect. I was in room 306 and got locked out of the room twice. They have a known issue with room 306 but they are still selling it to guest. The floors were sagging and there were no windows. I needed to get the maintenance man to come up and literally using body weight to kick in the door to let us back in. It was a terrible experience

Very comfortable room overall - everything is clean, bathroom is modern, comfortable desk chair, well-lit room. Great location yet quiet. Love the hot coffee and water that's available in hotel reception. Great value given everything. The mattress was too soft - made it a bit hard to sleep. Another minor thing: the pipes in the building are loud - you can hear it every time another room turns on the sink faucet.

Great location, just off Broadway and Times Square. Great staff, building a little bit run-down but my room was kept spotlessly clean - wonderfully comfortable bed. Good bolthole for an amazing city.

A great location and very friendly front desk. Small but just fine
- 4/5
The staff were some of the friendliest and most helpful I have come across in a long time. Location is excellent. Rooms tired and dmall
- 4/5
Welcoming and friendly staff. Had a back room which was quiet. Very close to time square and major theatres, situated next to the book of mormon. Hotel itself is run down, threadbare carpet etc but its fine if you all you want is a bed for the night.
- 5/5
This wouldn't be for everybody. Elevators don't always stop on the floor, you had to have the front desk get ice from the restaurant....but I wanted a New York experience....and this was EXACTLY what I wanted. Loved it. Great staff. Room was small, but again... that's what I wanted!
- 4/5
Loved the design of the rooms. Beautiful wallpaper and bed spreads to match!
- 2/5
Few blocks from Times square and subway is a big plus.
- 3/5
I knew it was an older hotel, but i like historic. However, wall paper was falling off in my room and TV was locked behind a glass enclosure. Felt a bit sketchy. Luckily the sheets were clean.
- 1/5
The staff was beyond rude while checking in and the room is outdated and cold!!
- 4/5
Fast check in and out.. Staff was friendly.. .
- 2/5
The room was very small and just looked worn. The doors to the entrance of the hotel had missing handles.
- 3/5
Nice bathroom and good soap. Some room-specific disappointments show a potential overall lack-of-attention: clock wasn't plugged in and set (and the radio function broken); desk worklight inoperable; toilet seat did not stay up. Bed comfy and room, although tiny, is worth the tradeoff for location and price.
- 5/5
Very well located and nice hotel. I recommend.
- 2/5
The room was stifling hot and there was no temperature control. I spoke to the front desk and was told to turn on the air conditioner, which was several feet over my head, above the window. The remote for the AC did not work, so the desk gave me new batteries - which also didn’t work. I stood on the edge of the bed and tried punching buttons. They were barely in reach and I couldn’t read what each one did (they were both faded and above my eyeline even when I stood on the bed). On the first night, the AC unit rumbled and roared so loudly, I couldn’t sleep. So I turned it off and slept on top of the covers - in January! The second night, I managed to find a quieter setting so instead of two hours sleep, I managed four and a half. NYC was in the middle of a heat wave, so there was no reason to run the heat at all this weekend. I had been told after night one that they wouldn’t run it the following night. Well, they did. I expected the room to be basic as the building is old, but I couldn’t make it work for me.
- 4/5
Great location. Room was small but the location and the price point for the area made up for it. Fit my needs. Room was comfortable.
- 5/5
Lovely very homely fantastic location. Rooms dated but perfect Collin price range
- 5/5
Much better quality than the price deserves, very good value for price, A lot more amenities included in room than expected.
- 4/5
This hotel is in a great location — within walking distance of most of the touristy things and the subway. The room itself is small but mostly comfortable. I don’t know if the single is large enough for two people but it was perfect for a solo traveler. My only negative with the room was that there wasn’t a way to control the heat. A staff person advised that I would need to turn on the AC if I wanted to cool the room. However, the bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom were tidy, so I would recommend.
- 5/5
We love this hotel and absolutely next times we return to NY of course we will be here!!! We recommend this amazing hotel to family, couples or business people!
- 3/5
Traveled alone to see shows and catch up with friends. The location is perfect and the price was great. Despite being near Times Square, the room was extremely quiet. The radiator heat was too much, so I slept with the window open. The bed was comfortable and the shower had good pressure with lots of hot water. But the decor is very dated and it’s a bit run down.
- 5/5
it's NYC - so the room was small - but comfortable (loved the toile!) but the location was PERFECT - walkable to everything we were there to see for Christmas in NY
- 2/5
As I walked into my unit and set up all of my luggage and belongings, I noticed water dripping from the bathroom door. A few minutes later there is hot water streaming down from the ceiling, to the point where water was seeping into the carpet of the bedroom and the hallway. I understand that things like this can happen but the staff didn't offer to rectify my situation. I had to grab all of my belongings in a rush to go down to the lobby and ask to be placed into another room. They reluctantly agreed but I feel like things could have been handled much better.
- 5/5
Always a pleasure staying here. The people at the front desk always remember me and it’s a very quaint hotel.
- 4/5
great location, good value, dated décor but comfortable
- 3/5
Trouble maintaining temperature. Was too hot and room notice said only ac was allowed which didn’t work. Had to open window which didn’t cool it down much.
- 5/5
Would definitely recommend this hotel, in the middle of broadway and right on the doorstep of Times Square. Perfect location and perfect for the price. Rooms were clean and comfortable, bed sheets and towels could be changed on request and the room was made up each day.
- 5/5
Great trip amazing staff and restaurant we will come again
- 3/5
The Mayfair is central and cheap. The room was clean. That's all I can say good about it. The hotel is the definition of "shabby." The woman who staffs the front desk during the day is helpful, but the rest of the staff acts like they wish you weren't there. BTW, the bed isn't even a Queen-size; it might be a double, but may be smaller than that.
- 3/5
This is a very tired hotel. All the finishes, carpet, paint, wallpaper need to be replaced. Staff at the front desk was efficient, but not very friendly. Restaurant next door was pretty good. The cheesecake was excellent.
- 2/5
Old property poorly maintained. Tried two different rooms. Could not control heat. Tub and sink did not drain properly.
- 3/5
Large shower, comfy bed, excellent location, hotel is old and run down, window let cold air in
- 3/5
Run down, could do with a makeover, very old fashioned and dated .
- 3/5
Excellent location and friendly staff. The conditions of the building need to improve because even that is clean does not look that way. Especially need to put attention to the bed sheets and covers.
- 4/5
I stay at the Mayfair whenever I am in New York...an old hotel but quiet with great staff and close proximity to restaurants stores and subways
- 3/5
When asked help, the staff were busy of playing game
- 3/5
I liked it proximity to the theaters; I disliked that it lacked a gym, refrigerator, and microwave.

I like the place!

We went to the city to see the book of Mormon. This hotel was incredibly convenient as it was right next-door. I wasn’t expecting much for the low price that I paid and I was not disappointed. What we got was a small room with a bed two chairs TV set and a nice clock radio that sounded very good. The bathroom had a walk-in shower sink mirror hairdryer toilet, everything you would need and was generously sized. If you are looking for affordable accommodations to spend the night look no further. It is an old hotel that hasn’t been renovated in a while but the rooms are very clean. The bed was a little too soft for my liking but for one night I was able to deal with it and slept very soundly.
- 5/5
The staff were lovely and the hotel was exactly what I expected. The location was amazing, making my stay a great one
- 5/5
It was a really cool stay was in such an excellent location everything was right here 10 min walk everywhere
- 2/5
Staff was friendly. The location is spectacular. Condition of property is very run down and in need of substantial renovation.
- 4/5
Great location, around the corner from Time Square. Has not been updated for along time except for the free Wi-Fi and a very strange bathroom sink. The rooms are relatively tiny but the price was right.
- 4/5
Good as always.
- 3/5
Hotel is well-located and the price is right. The room was cold and the in-room thermostat didn't work. Hotel needs an update...elevators are slow.
- 1/5
This hotel should not be listed by a good on-line website. The rooms are small and cramped; the heating was sub-par (when the temperature outside was 23 deg F), and the single front-office person was mostly surly. A fellow traveler noted: "this is the worst hotel I have stayed in"
- 2/5
The place smells of hamsters. Worn down carpet deco.
- 2/5
The only good thing about this hotel is very close to time square . Thats it
- 3/5
Hotel location is perfect- very convenient and accessible to everything you would like to do, eat and visit in NY...
- 5/5
Because of the price, I was not expecting a clean and modern room (in fact, I brought a can of Lysol). But I was pleasantly surprised. The bed was similarly as comfortable as beds in name-brand hotels costing twice as much! Only one elevator, though, but I was on the 3rd floor and could easily walk up and down the stairs.
- 4/5
Very good location excellent place to stay but my last day the was not hot water and couldn’t take a shower.
- 3/5
Excellent location, less than 0.5 mile walking distance to time square. Room is small, but you got what you pay for.
- 4/5
Location in the Broadway Show District is great! The Hotel is old - but, not in it much with sightseeing and Plays. Front Desk people are very friendly and helpful with tips on getting around NYC.
- 3/5
This hotel is in an excellent location! Very central to everything. The room has space for only a bed, no room for a vacuum cleaner or mop and pail. If you are just there to sleep, it works. The linens were clean! It did include a bathroom in the room but the 4 foot window in the shower (that overlooked an office and patio) was a bit intimidating. The moldy ripped blind didn't offer total privacy, hoping that showering in the dark prevented any entertainment for the neighbors :)
- 4/5
Excellent location! Friendly staff! It was very hard to regulate the temperature in the room and the outside noise was very "New York"!
- 4/5
A comfortable, reasonably priced hotel in the centre of entertainment district. Great for transport. Hotel was rather old and run down but clean. Nice staff.
- 4/5
This is a relatively inexpensive hotel in a great location. It is an older property and could use a little love. The carpeting on the stairs needs to be replaced. The elevator is very slow. The courtesy computer was not working. The television did not work. The room has no view. However, you don't go to NYC to stay in the room. This was a safe place to spend the night.
- 4/5
Older building, but comfortable and clean, great location and price
- 4/5
Its an older property, clean and friendly, but quite dated for the prices they.charge.
- 4/5
Well-located, and a good value for the money. The Internet connection is adequate for e-mail, browsing of written material, and streaming of podcasts -- inconsistent for streaming of videos.

If you are looking for a high-class, fancy hotel this isn’t it. BUT it was perfect for the location to theatres, restaurants, time square. No refrigerator. Did have room safe. Windows do not open easily and AC was noisy. Rooms are small, similar to a cruise ship. They had to move us because the sink wouldn’t drain but the AC was quieter in the second room but it was at the back and outside noise was a lot. Get a room down the hall towards the front and you’ll have less noise. Overall it was fine for the price paid.

We stayed for 5 nights. Our room was small but again that is what we paid for. The bedside table is dusty, even the phone, the aircondition is dusty. We even see a cockroach in the toilet. The only good thing is it is near the subway and 5-10 mins walk to the bus terminal going to the airport. If you are looking to save, book this hotel but for us we will never book this hotel again. Rather pay extra to book another hotel.

Overall an ok place to stay.

Liked the location, close to Times Square. Bed was good, size of room was adequate. Dislikes: The room, halls and lobby need a total upgrade. Carpets and furnishings were dirty and shabby.
- 3/5
The in room carpet was torn and dirty and the TV has only limited channels with quality receiption.
- 3/5
Right in the middle of the theater district...very convenient. Needs some serious updating.
- 4/5
Great location but the carpeting and hvac need to be rethought.
- 4/5
Needs a little upgrading though,. much of hotel is very tired looking.
- 3/5
Very shabby interior. Carpet worn through, scuffs on the walls, ancient shower that would get stuck in the off position.
- 1/5
Property is delapidated. Carpets are filthy and pulling away from the wall. Chair rails and base boards in the rooms are dusty. One inch of dirt/ dust in the corners in the elevator.Remote control had crud on the buttons.Overall disgusting.
- 4/5
Property is outdated. The only "amenity" for $7 daily "resort fee" is WiFi.
- 2/5
Tiny old elevator. Tiny rooms. Tiny bathroom. Had to sit sideways on the toilet. TV had 5 channels that worked. Way too expensive.... but a good location.
- 1/5
Nothing likeable about the hotel. Dirty, small and smelly rooms..dirty and rusty bathroom and toilet. Hotel needs renovation.
- 2/5
Vary dated and worn out finishes, carpet stains, remnants of broken hooks, etc in bathroom, crappy residential style window air conditioner, and room had an odor. Too many negatives for the high cost...I don’t care if it is NYC too expensive for what was provided.
- 4/5
Cons: frayed carpet on main stairway should be replaced, shower tray in bathroom looked unclean and probably should have been bleached, bathroom floor could have been better cleaned before I was given room access, air conditioner was noisy, room was very small (though probably most NYC rooms are small), free wi-fi apparently wasn't secure per message received on my computer
- 4/5
Ironing board and iron in the room. Only let down was lack of Tea/Coffee boat in the room !
- 2/5
The hotel was clean. However, old odor. Very limited service. TV did not work and was fuzzy to view.
- 5/5
Location was perfect. Room was adorable. Small but equipped with everything needed. Clean and great bed. Staff was exceptional and so friendly. Anywhere I wanted to go they could get me the perfect subway directions. I will definitely stay here again. I do suggest that the elevator be refinished as it looks really old and worn out.

Location good, air conditioning too noisy to have at night
- 5/5
Great location, friendly staff, a great bargain in NYC. Right in the theater district and walking distance to great restaurants
- 4/5
Great central location, small single elevator, small but acc
- 4/5
Very good location, small rooms and bad air conditioner.
- 4/5
Very central location, property needs updating but no complaints as it was very clean & reasonably priced for New York City
- 5/5
Best location for the budget, 5 mins walk to times. Rooms were small but clean.
- 4/5
Decently priced hotel with the bare basics. Check-in was quick and was able to check in our bags after we checked out ($2 fee per bag). Room was small, no refrigerator or microwave.
- 2/5
Weird staff. Tiny room and elevator. Room was dirty. Stuff on the sheets. Bed was a rollout. Never again
- 2/5
great location. The hotel is in need of major refurbishment, Carpeting filthy and worn,

great location. block from times square. close to several subway stations. friendly staff. our room was very quiet. great price. if you need amenities and room with a view go spend 500 a night at chain hotel. if you need basic place to crash that leaves you some money to get gouged everyplace else in NYC, this is it!
- 2/5
Hotel was in great location and good value for this. We were very satisfied until ripped off on fare for car to the airport. We were told a price + a commission to the hotel but then driver insisted on a far higher fare
- 5/5
Old fashioned and pleasant. Small rooms but fabulous location.
- 2/5
we were disappointed in the hotel.
- 5/5
Close to time square and subway. Room was very small but we only slept there. Didn't spend much time at the hotel.
- 3/5
The location is great. The hotel itself is dated and tired looking. The room was very small but the shower room was a good size! No bar area to relax in
- 5/5
Right near Times Square, small but neat. Cool older building. Good water pressure!
- 5/5
Location was fantastic. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Staff was very cordial and helpful.
- 4/5
The term well worn would be easily applied to this hotel. Though clean enough with very nice white, comfortable bedding the property itself has seen much use. Perfectly located in the theater district.
- 5/5
Great location, friendly staff. Live coming here
- 2/5
Room was super hot but old window air conditioner was so loud. I spent the entire night unable to sleep, switching the air conditioner on and off. There was a long hair in my “clean” bed sheets. Floors, carpeting and walls severely worn.
- 5/5
This hotel is a gem, nestled away a few blocks from Times Square and in the heart of broadway and all the musicals around.
- 4/5
Was very old and dome general upkeep would be beneficial
- 4/5
Fantastic location, fair price for the area. Beds were comfortable. Rooms were small, but the above makes up for it. The hot water wasn’t working in the sink for my stay (Not a huge deal because I was only staying for one night, but a minor inconvenience). Have stayed there Four times now and would definitely go back. It is a good budget friendly hotel for the area considering the location and price point.
