Reviews
The Moderne Hotel is a boutique hotel in New York City that receives generally positive reviews for its location, staff, and cleanliness. However, some guests have complained about the size of the rooms, the comfort of the beds, and the lack of breakfast options.
- Great location
- Helpful and friendly staff
- Small rooms
- Uncomfortable beds
- 5/5
The hotel is in an excellent location, with convenient access to restaurants, the theater district, and public transportation. Additionally, my room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast items could have been better.

Great location at an amazing price. Staff was so nice. Parking was right next door, and breakfast too! Hidden gem!
- 5/5
Location is perfect, staff are all very friendly and helpful. A great, comfortable choice for visiting NYC.

Respectful and friendly staff. Comfortable accommodations in a great location. Stayed a number of times and always meets expectations.
- 4.5/5
Fantastic location, staff was VERY friendly, the room was bigger than we expected, furniture and bed were comfortable. Also the dedicated guest space for work was pretty good. The breakfast was not a breakfast at all, it was muffins/croissants and coffee/tea.
- 4.5/5
Intimate hotel, friendly staff, ideal location
- 5/5
The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Special kudos to Derek and Hamza!

As for the hotel itself, cleanliness is impeccable. The room was quite dark, with no window facing the street, but the decor was pleasant. The bedding is a bit worn but still comfortable, and the bathroom also shows some signs of age (slightly discolored grout, a cracked floor tile), though nothing off-putting. The front desk staff were really very friendly, which is a big plus when traveling. Breakfast has been a point of debate among guests. Some booking sites mention a continental breakfast, but in reality, it is more like grab-and-go pastries with unlimited access to a hot drinks machine. Special thanks to Jerry, who gave us a great laugh. We could hear him SHOUTING in his deep booming voice during the New York Knicks game. We don’t know anything about basketball, but we experienced the whole game with him through the walls!

bed noisy construction next door - not notified about it before booking

What just what we needed - clean, friendly and incredibly located.
- 5/5
The hotel is in a great location. Walking distance to Central Park, MoMA,Lincoln Center. Room is small but very clean and comfortable. Stuffs are very nice and helpful. Parking is in next garage which is very convenient and price is very reasonable compare with other garage in NYC. Will definitely stay again in the future.
- 5/5
A hotel that is very clean very chic with the very accommodating staff!
- 5/5
Fabulous location. Easy walk to almost everything we wanted to see. Staff was helpful and gave some great restaurant recommendations and advice on which subway routes to take. Close to Central Park and subway stations
- 5/5
Nice staff Great location

We stayed at the hotel in May 2026. we received amazing and dedicated service from the lovely Derick and Jerry. The hotel rooms are large and spacious compared to NYC standards. We even got a room with a balcony, which is also a rarity in New York. At the front desk, we encountered a sour-faced and unfriendly lady. there seems to be a nearby building undergoing renovation or construction, so drilling sounds start at 7:00 AM. It can actually serve as a great alarm clock if you're looking to head out early and explore the city
- 0.5/5
Nothing, it was the worst experience I’ve ever had in a hotel. Smell was horrible in the room. There was only a tiny window in one corner that was block by the aircon unit and a permanent blind so no light at all was coming into the room. Aircon unit was making horrible noise and room wasn’t properly noise isolated so we could hear all that was happening in the lobby.

It was a very nice, stay for me: 1 person basically looking for a clean, comfortable place to sleep in Manhattan...All good.
- 4/5
Very good
- 4/5
Since the hotel offers only a limited amount of breakfast, we had nothing to eat in the morning.
- 5/5
Lovely stay - very clean and courteous staff.

Location Price Booking.com said breakfast was included. This was misleading as all there was for “breakfast” was coffee and a danish. Rooms were a bit small. Mattress was old and not very comfortable.

The location The rooms have no windows. There is a tiny 12 inch wide window that hardly opens and is looking at a brick wall 7 inches behind. You can’t tell if it’s day or night. The rooms are terribly small. If you like tiny rooms with no windows and no fresh air, this is for you.
- 5/5
My wife and I had a pleasant stay. The staff was very helpful and the room was very clean. The bathroom was well appointed with lots of hot water and water pressure. We would absolutely stay again.
- 5/5
Therebwere just pastries for breakfast butnit was more then i expected, the cofee was great
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly.
- 4/5
Fresh, but minimal breakfast
- 4/5
The location and comfortable bed can't be beat! The grab and go breakfast needs major improvement, but thanks to Expedia, the price was right!
- 4/5
Great location friendly staff room was clean. Parking garage next store but from an independent company.
- 5/5
Super friendly staff, good size room.
- 4/5
I like the complimentary pastries and coffee from 7-10 am, but I don’t know they charged me additional $75 upon check in.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean, quiet, good location that seemed safe. Good coffee/tea machine that’s offered all day. Croissants for breakfast that’s grab and go
- 4/5
One morn no pastries
- 3/5
There was absolutely no light coming in from the window which had a window AC unit. There was constant white noise coming from the window. I had to buy ear plugs. Shower had dirty grout which was off-putting. Elevator carpet was dirty. Overall look of the hotel is run down. Breakfast is only a few pastries with no plates or napkins. No in-room coffee or tea, although there were 2 bottles of water. Only positive is the location.
- 5/5
Breakfast was good
- 5/5
Had a great time here. The staff was friendly. Appreciated the mini fridge in the room and the assortment of pastries from 7-10 am. This hotel is conveniently located with lots of things to do around.
- 5/5
Wonder staff. Melvin and Jeffrey are amazing
- 4/5
Great location in Hells Kitchen. Close to trains, theater district, restaurants and shopping in Columbus Circle. Staff was really nice and accommodating. Lacks amenities. The gym is in another hotel.
- 5/5
Easy NYC stay. Close to subway and theater district.
- 5/5
Love the guest lounge. It is so cozy with very nice decoration. The pastry are good. The only things that I think you guys should add into your guest lounge are toaster and microwave. I want to toast croissants but couldn't find it anywhere. other than that, everything looks great!
- 5/5
Quaint, quiet and outrageously comfortably beds!
- 5/5
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and I can’t say enough how well everything was for us. After minor issue with our choice of the room staff changed our room to a wonderful room that suited our needs and we can’t thanked them enough especially Andy, Hamza and Siham who did everything to make our stay comfortable and I want to say that people like them make the world better place. Hotel has a great lounge with coffee and tea and delicious pastries in the morning. Elevator was very easy to manage and it was pretty fast to pick us up. Parking was 35$ a night with hotel validating ticket. We walked everywhere and hotel is in center of all major activities of Manhattan. We will definitely stay again and we recommend it with flying colors.
- 5/5
Great front office and doorman staff, cleaners were friendly and accomodative. Great location.
- 4/5
This was a very good location, and a nice room. Obviously, it’s New York, so the room is very small. There is also no view, but then again, it’s New York. I would stay here again.
- 3/5
I truly love the location. It was in the center of everything. But the room was so small construction next door. Drilling started early in the morning while I was trying to rest. No view of anything (just a wall). The free breakfast was just bread and coffee. Staff was friendly though. Especially the young man that works front desk at night.
- 5/5
Honestly, l had a teenager with and he needed protein every day! So there are many diners and coffee places near the hotel.
- 3/5
No coffee/teamaker in the room so guests had to go to the lounge that had a rather poor tasting shared coffeemaker and water/ice. Overall we enjoyed our stay but they need to address windows, pillows and beds asap.
- 5/5
The location was central to all the things we wanted to do and see. The staff was excellent and friendly and even checked us in early! Will definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
Didn’t use parking Clean doom Wonderful staff
- 3/5
Nice front desk staff
- 5/5
Great location
- 4/5
The staff was very welcoming. Great location. The second floor lounge was very convenient. Would return.
- 4/5
Good location , nice staff , would stay again
- 4/5
Great friendly staff and clean rooms and convenient location the bed was just crazy firm for me
- 5/5
Habitación amplia y limpia. Ubicación perfecta para conocer la ciudad.
- 5/5
Great hotel!! Highly recommend it and I will be booking there again on my next trip to NYC
- 4/5
I stayed in a room with a king sized bed and while the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean, the carpet in the room was clearly worn and could use a cleaning. There was also just enough space to fit a desk on one side of the bed. The room was very small, but if you're needing to stay a night or a couple of nights in NYC in a central location this is a good value.
- 5/5
The hotel was clean and conveniently located to Broadway theatres. The parking garage was located right next to the Moderne and was only $35 overnight with hotel discount. Unheard of for parking in the city. Staff was amazing. We forgot our phone charger block and the doorman lent us his personal one. Would definitely recommend!
- 2/5
Staff was nice and location was good.
- 5/5
Wonderful staff!
- 4/5
The room and bathroom were clean and I slept really well during my stay. While the reception area is small and breakfast is a modest coffee machine and snacks type of thing served at the guest lounge, the location of the hotel is really great and the staff was really helpful and friendly.
- 4/5
We didn’t know they had a pool
- 5/5
Perfect place to stay near Times Square!
- 5/5
Very good location, close to time square, central park, and all the subway lines. Staff was very helpful and kind.
- 5/5
I admit, my husband and I were initially disappointed with the decor of the hotel. Compared to online photos, the decor looked tired and worn with peeling wall paper, chipped furniture, & chipped paint. BUT, our stay at this hotel was WONDERFUL. Service members were all FRIENDLY and MAGNIFICENT. From the front desk to house cleaning, each member went above and beyond making sure we had everything we needed and showing concern and compassion for my teen when she didn't feel well. The room was clean and spacious. The beds were very comfortable. The light breakfast each morning and 24-hr access to great coffee, tea, and filtered water were a treat. The location is superb. We highly recommend the Moderne Hotel NYC and would certainly book here again. Thank you for the wonderful stay!
- 3/5
The room was extremely tiny, photos deceiving. Breakfast looked like leftovers from the day before and the milk for coffee had chunks of ice in the container. Our view was of a brick wall. The only good thing about our stay was the staff. Extremely nice.
- 5/5
We enjoyed everything about our stay. The room was surprisingly roomy and there was a balcony! We didn’t use the breakfast but did check out the lounge, which was nicely appointed and comfortable. I’ve save the best for last. The staff went above and beyond to make us welcomed. They helped with luggage, parking, and information in the area. I can’t say enough good things about them. Thank you for a great stay in a perfect location for Broadway, Central Park and the Lincoln Center. We will be back!
- 1/5
A pipe burst in our room at 1am, spraying water everywhere, soaking us and all of our things (including electronics). We were not compensated for anything. The management refused to even call me back (after multiple calls and emails sent). Weeks later, they only sent an AI generated apology email with zero offer for compensation for our ruined items or stay. Also to add insult to injury, we were still charged the “resort fee” on our way out the door. There was no breakfast or even a drop of milk/cream for coffee in the morning which was supposed to be included. I never write reviews but wanted to warn people against staying at this horribly run hotel. There are plenty of choices in NYC….trust me never stay here.
- 4/5
For NYC, location is good. Very small boutique hotel. Staff is mediocre, one elevator that is very slow, ac was broken but they repaired while we were out. Do not take this as a "breakfast included" hotel. It was coffee machine and a small muffin or pastry. Construction going on next door but that can be expected in NYC.
- 4/5
Cute hotel. Elevator was broken for part of stay so had to use the stairs but was repaired while we were there so able to end up using it eventually. Loved the breakfast pastries and coffee in the lounge!
- 4/5
Perfect location, really warm welcome and friendly staff. Clean room. Breakfast was a little disappointing.
- 5/5
Great property at good price
- 3/5
I was informed as I arrived in NY at 9:30 am the day of my reservation that the hotel wasn't able to accommodate me and transferred me to another hotel. The stay at the Ameritania Hotel was ok. Nothing great but the point is that I didn't get to stay at the hotel I booked. I booked this hotel because it was walking distance to the venue I was attending that evening. Now I had to take an Uber to get to and from my venue. Not appreciated.
- 2/5
An 8.5 on Expedia really That is very hard to believe because no Check in was actually nice The front desk representative and the bellman were both very kind and welcoming That was honestly the only good part Once we got upstairs and opened the door we were in shock The room was extremely small I did not understand how me and my husband were supposed to stay there comfortably for four days I immediately called downstairs to ask for another room or even an upgrade and I was willing to pay I was told they were sold out and there was nothing that could be done Later my husband went downstairs and was told about a sister hotel with a gym He went the next day and found out they had bigger rooms I asked if we could move over there and was told yes but I would need to speak to a supervisor The next day I spoke to the supervisor and it was a complete disappointment I said good morning and she did not greet me back she just said how can I help you As I started explaining how uncomfortable we were she cut me off and said there is nothing we can do No apology no understanding no effort The call lasted maybe 30 seconds and it felt like she did not even try The room did not even have a real window it was just bricks which made it even worse When I mentioned that she again said there is nothing we can do I was so frustrated I ended up crying to my husband asking if we could just leave and go somewhere else He told me we w
- 4/5
Breakfast was empty when I came this morning
- 5/5
The staff was excellent and it was conveniently located to walk to areas in the city with teenagers.
- 5/5
Very nice boutique hotel in the heart of Times Square. So convenient. Quiet. Wonderful staff. Easy check in and check out.
- 5/5
Great location, comfortable bed, affordable parking next door. I would stay again!
- 5/5
Everything was wonderful! Check in and check out was a breeze. Room wasn’t quite ready yet when we arrived at 11am (which was expected) but they happily stored our luggage for us while we went out. Front desk staff and security were both welcoming and pleasant every time we entered or exited the hotel. Can’t beat the location for pretty much anything in midtown. Parking is next door and was quick and easy. Will definitely stay here again next time in NYC.
- 4/5
Excellent location, extremely quiet. Very nice staff.
- 5/5
Great location, friendly staff, and nice clean rooms.
- 3/5
We stayed the 1st weekend of March and the room was extremely hot even with windows open and temperature turned as low as it could go
- 5/5
All staffs were so kind and trued to help us all time. Specifically Jerry was so kind and helped us a lot! I appreciate all of them🙏
- 5/5
Not a single complaint. Room was clean & larger than expected (love the brand of bathroom products they supply); excellent location on a low traffic street & 5 minute walk to all subway lines; staff was engaging helpful and friendly. I simply cannot recommend this hotel high enough!
- 5/5
The staff is fantastic! Rooms were nice bigger than expected considering it’s NY
- 5/5
Super Friendly, helpful and efficient staff. Cool room and convenient for our plans!
- 5/5
Localização muito boa! Limpeza, atençao tudo muito organizado! Retornaremos com certeza
- 3/5
Rooms are tiny. Lobby is tiny. Grab N Go lounge coffee machine out of milk so only black coffee available. Staff was not able to help. Grab N Go pastries were good but not enough to last the 3- hour window.
- 3/5
Now the negative. Room had dirty carpet and bed was not comfy. Bedframe was very worn and the mattress had a stain and was full of dry skin. It was covered by a thin sheet ( no mattress cover) and no top sheet just a duvet. Room was very hot and no air conditioning. We were sweating even though the heat was completely off. Complimentary grab and go was a nice idea but out of pastries by 8:30 am when it was supposed to be 7-10. Overall I would rate the hotel 6/10
- 4/5
Clean. Convenient. Nice staff. The steam heating pipes did make some noise. Price was reasonable.
- 5/5
Even though the room were smaller, were clean and sufficient. The positive was the location we were close to everything and we were able to walk to restaurants, subway etc. I want to just say that the staff was amazing and they made us stay pleasant.
- 5/5
I liked getting free waters, but I would prefer that they have a water bottle refill station or something, to avoid plastic waste.
- 5/5
Beautiful stay there. Good ubication. Near times squares
- 4/5
Room was clean and the staff was really friendly. I had a special accommodation and the staff was able to fulfill them. I appreciated their help and definitely will be back!
- 3/5
Room and hotel look nice. Very clean and a friendly staff. But it is extremely noisy. Doors slamming constantly. And to use the TV you have to put in your personal account info. And last the Air/heater in my room would not go below 75 degrees. I had to turn it off to sleep.
- 5/5
I really appreciated the lounge on the 2nd floor with coffee and tea that is available all day and the pastries that arrived for breakfast.
- 2/5
Robes in a room are strangely out of place paired with only plastic glasses. Front desk got is real glasses after I complained
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
Nice staff, good location. Construction next door was loud and started early. "Breakfast" was pastries and slow
- 4/5
The one thing that would make our stay excellent is improving time it takes for the shower water to heat up!
- 5/5
Polite staff, clean rooms, great location, convenient parking.
- 5/5
So cute great location clean and great service!
- 5/5
Clean, waters and chocolates for free(?), spacious, great bed, great decor.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean, location great for price
- 5/5
The staff is fantastic. The guys at the front desk were so nice and helpful! The room small but clean. No complaints. I probably wouldn't stay there on a long vacation but I will come back again for a night or two.
- 5/5
Great hotel and staff! Rooms are nice and large for the price. Hospitality room is nice and drinks available all the time with a big TV to watch. Have stayed here twice and will again.
- 1/5
The room was freezing and has an air conditioner vent attached to the window through which cold air was blowing constantly. I could hear the wind whistling through it and it was blaring on and off all night to combat the cold winter weather. The main heating unit was not working at all. The TV wasn’t working and the “engineer” who came up to try and fix it and the first person I spoke with at the desk said it should be working. After he clearly couldn’t fix it someone from the front desk called and said none of the TV apps were working and hadn’t been for over 2 years. Because the TVs were not connected to the internet. Strange since the entire hotel has WiFi. The smoke alarm battery must have gone out because it was beeping constantly during our last morning and when I tried to call down to the front desk the receptionist couldn’t hear me even though I could hear her and she told me to come down to talk to her personally because she couldn’t hear me. Total train wreck. Definitely will not be returning and not a 4-star establishment.
- 5/5
Very convenient location. Staff super helpful and friendly. Very clean. Nice coffee and pastries offered each morning and convenient parking right next door, plus reasonable prices. We really couldn’t have asked for more!
- 5/5
Our check in was great…and they were ready for us at 12:30 am. Room was bigger than expected with a king size bed. Bed very comfortable and bathroom was very nice! We stayed on the 1st floor, so very convenient. Breakfast rolls were alittle late and not very much variety. Coffee was good and machine cool and easy to use. Will stay again!
- 3/5
La propiedad no está mal, solo que el aire no funcionaba. Enviaron un técnico y el aire se quedó igual. Pero el hotel está cerca de todo y variedad de comida cerca. El personal excelente.
- 4/5
Great location, easy parking, well maintained property with high end decor
- 4/5
There was only one nightstand so we had to move the bathroom cart and desk lamp next to the bed so that both of us could read. Lastly, we also would have appreciated another mirror of some kind in the room—over the desk or inside the closet?
- 5/5
From the very beginning the staff greeted us with warm smiles and welcomed us to NYC! Throughout our time our room was clean and they always greeted as we entered and departed. It’s very close to all attractions such as Times Square and Colombus circle! Such an amazing hotel! Will be back one day! A must to stay at!!
- 5/5
Staff is very helpful and friendly. Location excellent.
- 4/5
Friendly staff.
- 4/5
Room was clean, staff were friendly, great location for a great price. Lounge did not have water/functioning coffee machine.
- 5/5
Great stay, courteous staff and comfortable rooms. Also right in the heart of the action wit easy access to food and trains.
- 5/5
Our stay was nice. We were allowed to check in earlier than expected, the room was nice & clean, the staff was friendly & helpful.
- 5/5
Clean room, friendly staffs, free breakfast, and location
- 5/5
EXCELLENT STAY! they assisted me throughout my entire stay and made going to NYC for the first time a great experience super nice and kind staff !
- 4/5
Room was clean and staff was excellent. Parking garage next to hotel for guests.
- 5/5
Yes
- 5/5
Moderne Hotel is convenient to Times Square, Central Park, theaters.. The rooms are sizable and clean. The guest lounge with hot beverage bar and games is very inviting. Staff is friendly, helpful, and professional.
- 2/5
Impersonal staff. Merry Christmas.
- 5/5
Despite the hotel having construction work being done outside, it did not disturb us at all. We enjoyed our stay. The room was clean, staff were friendly, and the location was great.
- 4/5
Tried to call the hotel many times prior to arriving though and no answer, or if after hours, it must go to a call service, because they know nothing about the hotel! Parking can be a major issue - the parking garage next door cannot support a pick up truck or bigger SUV - even though I called the hotel multiple times and was told it would be fine. But...the location is excellent. You are so close to everything.......Times Square, Rockefeller, Central Park, the subway, etc.
- 5/5
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location was perfect. The room was nice and clean.
- 4/5
Clean, modern hotel in excellent midtown location. Rooms were nice, clean and comfortable. Only downsides were lack of space to put your ‘stuff’ (in bedroom and especially bathroom - no counter space!) - had to basically live out of suitcase. There was no shower door or curtain, just a half piece of glass, so shower water went everywhere - very bad design. Lounge was very nice and comfortable. Got good coffee and pastries there every day, and ate take out pizza there for dinner once.
- 5/5
Great location near Central Park. Close enough to Times Square and Fifth Avenue to get to everything you want to see, but far enough away that it is pretty quite (at least for NYC). Good clean room. I would stay there again
- 5/5
Very simple hotel in great location
- 5/5
All good! And, since I came. To the city for a performance at City Center, the location was excellent!
- 3/5
It has the potential.
- 2/5
The staff was nice but it was extremely hard to get anyone to resolve the above as only managers who weren't always there could help.
- 3/5
Upkeep
- 1/5
The room size was very decieving -very small, had clumps of hair all over our floor, carpet stains, fridge didnt work, air didnt work -wouldnt recommend at all!
- 5/5
Rooms are fairly compact, but not too small. We had a twin with small double bed each. Extremely comfortable. Great bathroom with super shower & spotless. Towels refreshed every day - no easy way to indicate in the room you don’t need this. Rooms were very HOT & dry. Free bottled water each day. Breakfast is grab & go - ok options, to get you on your way quickly - you’ll be wanting to eat all the city has to offer so this was not a concern for us! Staff on reception / door / cleaning are all SO HELPFUL & SUPER FRIENDLY. This hotel is a great option and would definitely go back / recommend.
- 5/5
Room was spotless and staff very friendly and helpful. Can’t say enough good things about our stay! Excellent location for a short walk to everything! Would definitely stay again when in Manhattan again!
- 4/5
The staff was professional and courteous, great service!
- 5/5
Enjoyed it very much. Dog friendly
- 5/5
Room was great. Shower temps would not get as warm as tap temperatures at sink which a warmer shower temperature would have made the stay outstanding. Overall excellent choice with easy access to subway for travel to both JFK and LaGuardia. Short walks to Central Park, Times Square and Radio City Music Hall. Excellent location
- 5/5
The Check-in person at the counter on 11-26-25 in the evening was great, very helpful. As was the other guy that helps with bags. Parking is next door. The 5am on Thanksgiving morning bag helper guy was great as well. Our room had its own balcony. Soo cool. Also only a short walk to subway and to the Macys parade at central park. It was a great location. No coffee though.
- 1/5
I sent a note which was ignored. Bad follow up!
- 5/5
Wonderful experience!
- 5/5
Staff was very helpful. Appreciated being able to check-in a bit early.
- 5/5
Parking right next door and discounted if you stay there, close to broadway, safe neighborhood, clean hotel, staff was super friendly, id stay again.
- 5/5
Clean room, quiet area, great location.
- 5/5
Hotel staff were great
- 4/5
The staff was wonderful. Very nice. It was my first time in New York and was nervous about staying in a boutique hotel. The breakfast was great, the location was fabulous ,and the whole place was very clean. Quick to get to the subway and broadway show that we were seeing. The restaurant across the street was also delicious! The ONLY thing that I had a complaint about is the bed. It was very hard. It wasn’t unbearable and we by the end of the day it suited its purpose but when I come back to stay I would ask for a different room.
- 4/5
Small and no lobby to speak of but I loved location, room was good for the price, it was a fair deal just noisy suite facing street. Room was cool staff was good and on top of things.
- 5/5
Exceeds expectation on everything. Perfect location, parking garage was just beside the hotel, friendly staff, spotless room.
- 1/5
And all morning starting at 5 am there was a nonstop beeping which sounded like an alarm clock, however, it seemed to be coming from the lobby at one of their electrical or fire panels
- 5/5
The staff was amazing and the shower was fantastic! The location gave us quick access to many restaurants and shops. We would definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
Nice small hotel! The staff was very helpful and accommodating!
- 5/5
Nice upgrade!
- 5/5
Staff was great, especially doorman. Room clean. Great value, great location
- 4/5
The breakfast was coffee and local pastries/baked goods which was better IMO than a big hotel chain continental breakfast.
- 4/5
Clean room and helpful staff
- 2/5
Interesting building and the staff were very helpful and nice… but the property and rooms need major renovation and upgrading. I would say not worth the price of the rooms
- 5/5
Proximity to all major attractions, great staff. Lounge is great for small bites and drinks.

Moderne is a boutique hotel located a block from Broadway and in the heart of the theatre district. It's also located very close to Central Park. It's a fantastic location. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. My room was on the first floor just behind the lobby and it was very comfortable and quiet. It's on the smaller side -- but you don't go to NYC to be in the room. I will definitely stay there again.
- 3/5
Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Room was not what I was expecting from the profile. Extremely cramped for the price. For two people there is barely room to put down a suitcase or sit. Would not recommend this place.
- 4/5
Beautiful old building in a great location, nice amenities and friendly staff. But the standard room was smaller than expected [less than 200sq ft]. Next time, I would opt for the Jr Suite.
- 5/5
Bed was hard
- 1/5
Small hotel close to Times Square. Room and bathroom were tiny. Barely enough space for my daughter and I. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable. I tossed and turned all night. There is a garbage collection site next door that made walking to and from the hotel unbearable with the smell.
- 2/5
They held my bags until I returned from the show as I arrived shortly before 3 and a room wasn’t ready, so they checked me in upon my return. Maybe I got the last room. Who knows. The young man who checked me in was lovely though. I got to the breakfast room at 8 and there was almost nothing left. Overall, very disappointing.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the continental breakfast and general use of the lounge as well.
- 3/5
The room was ok, no windows a little claustrophobic for me ,small and the bathroom too the shower was good .rhe carpet news a deep cleaning service No coffee maker but has a small refrigerator, Good thing 2 bottles of water every day free of charge. The breakfast was ok for continental breakfast but no enough chairs only a big table with a few chairs si if you want to seat and take a cup of coy with your partner is not enough room to do it is more grab and go! Only coffe n pastry, cereal and some fruits We had breakfast every day outside the hotel every day
- 3/5
The property only had 1 elevator and was down for several hours. Had to take stairs.
- 4/5
The location is perfect. We loved being close to both Central Park and times square. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The guest lounge with pastries/cereal and coffee was a great bonus too.
- 4/5
Nice hotel in a great location. Quiet, clean, friendly staff, nice breakfast offerings. Very minor, but room design and perhaps our room’s location had no natural light of that matters to you. We noticed but it didn’t affect our short stay in any way. Not the hotels fault but the garage next door definitely scammed us which was a bummer.
- 4/5
We chose this hotel for its location to an event. Very walkable to off-Broadway show. Parking garage with hotel discount right next door. Room was nice. Comfy bed. Could use more bathroom counter space for toiletries. Staff were nice. Breakfast (pastries) were very good. The only negative was hair dryer didn’t work and we requested another one that never came. So lost a star on service.
- 5/5
The property was cute! Intimate and off the beaten path right next to Central Park & Times Square. Easy to check in and quite friendly! Great stay.
- 4/5
Staff was really great!! Location is great! The room was huge in comparison to other hotels in the area! The property is a bit old but I guess has been renovated a little bit. But overall great stay.
- 5/5
Very comfortable bed. Simple amenities — like bottled water — that are not always free. Nice and competent staff.
- 4/5
Great location, parking was located in the adjacent building. We were headed to the cruise terminal next day, and it was a straight line down. I would highly recommend. and great resto's across the street.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and super helpful. Location was great. Nice place to stay.
- 5/5
Really nice boutique hotel in the heart of Manhattan! Stayed 2 nights for work. Walked Central Park, enjoyed the local pubs and restaurants. If you are looking for a New York City experience, this hotel is safe, clear, fun, and an excellent value.
- 5/5
Over all love it
- 3/5
Our first welcome was by unfriendly front seat. She response in a rude way to every question. The room was nice besides a very noisy Air condition. I already complain about it as same day we arrived and they said they will check it. Nothing done and I got up in the morning with terrible headache. I asked to change a room and they did… but with the same room in a different floor but same noisy air condition. They made me think that I am the sensitive to noise and the air conditioning is okay. After reading other reviews, I noticed that many reviews mentioned it. I wish I had the time to check the hotel before. Also, the hotel mentions that they have a breakfast… well, don’t built on it… it’s more as a coffee room, which is nice to have 24/7. I will end my review with a good thing: if you like a fun shower.. the hot water, soup and the water’s flow are great. 3 stars out of 5.
- 4/5
I enjoyed Moderne Hotel despite the construction zone around the building during our stay. The location was great, the staff was kind and helpful, and the room was clean and cozy. Things we had trouble with were not the fault of the hotel but since the parking garage was discounted through Moderne and is right next door I should warn future visitors that the parking garage attendant when we arrived was incredibly rude and unhelpful. It was a different guy when we left and he was much better to deal with.
- 5/5
Excellent staff! Andy was very helpful. Nice comfortable beds, spotless room, ice cold air condition and mini fridge provided in room. Close to many dining options, shopping and sites. Highly recommend this very nice hotel.
- 4/5
Breakfast is continental/basic ( some days only muffins) other days yogurt , muffins, juices, apples. Coffee and tea availabe 24/7 in the guest launch. We had the room on 6th floor with windows on 55th . The room was spacious for 3 people for 3 nights.
- 3/5
- 3/5
Front desk and door staff very friendly, courteous and helpful. Bottled water at check in was great on a particularly hot day. Hotel description noted coffee and pastries in the morning for breakfast. Both days we arrived for breakfast at 9am and 8 am respectively, no pastries only limited cereal selection. Coffee was available but not very good. Room and bathroom stylishly decorated and clean. In room safe a plus. No central air but window AC unit was sufficient given the small from. Bed extremely low quality and hard. For the price and location would consider staying again but with many other options, the lack of breakfast and hard bed would make a repeat stay a difficult decision.
- 1/5
The receptionist did not even bother to answer us properly for pastries and fruits which was not there for breakfast . If you are considering to have breakfast , then moderne is not for you. Without breakfast this is a good option
- 3/5
TV was very difficult to use, not like any system I have ever used before - not helpful. Hotel states that stay includes breakfast. Breakfast was a choice of 4 or 5 cereals and some scones. Coffee not the best - very disappointing since featured as "breakfast included".
- 5/5
I enjoyed staying but we got a very small room without a window. We asked for an upgrade to have a view...non available. 2nd floor launge was very nice. Coffee matchine was nice too
- 2/5
Property is definitely not 3.5/4 star
- 5/5
Great location. Parking next door was awesome. We were very pleased with our stay.
- 5/5
Front desk staff were extremely helpful and courteous. Rooms are comfortable, view was of brick alley, not picturesque.

Clean and quiet
- 2/5
We were on the first floor, window was almost non existent and air conditioning could not keep up. Location of hotel was great and bell staff was great but there was construction right next to the hotel so that didn’t help either! Check to see where your room is! Felt like we were is a box!!
- 1/5
1st time at hotel even tho booked a room with balcony.ended up on 1st floor with no window. It was like sleeping in a box. When asked if i could change rooms they said no even tho they we not fully booked. 3 nites @ 1,200 usd to sleep in a box.
- 1/5
Our room had one narrow window facing a brick wall just a few feet away, so there was no natural light at all. An old air conditioner sat in the bottom of the window and made loud noises every few minutes, which made it hard to relax. I asked the concierge if we could move to another room. He checked his computer and gave a long, vague answer that didn’t make much sense — I guess it was a no. I would’ve paid more for a better room if that option had been offered, but it wasn’t. Thankfully, we were only there for two nights, but it felt like staying in a storage closet. The funky design just made it more irritating. This was easily the worst room I’ve ever stayed in while visiting New York. I had no idea rooms like this even existed in highly rated hotels. Next time, I’ll do a lot more research before booking.
- 5/5
Excellent hotel. Large room. Comfy beds. Very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Location good for Times Square and Central Park. Quietish street although we had room at back of hotel.
- 5/5
Friendly and clean. Great location
- 3/5
They run out of Splenda the first day and the did not realize. The room was confortable but tiny. No blanket in the room.
- 5/5
The staff was really friendly, helpful and professional!
- 5/5
Good value. No pool, view , or breakfast, but a great location for the theater district , museums and Central Park. Rooms are quiet and dark , with comfortable, firm king size mattresses. Best I've ever slept in the theater district. There is a 2nd floor lounge with water, pastries and very good coffee for coming from a machine. The staff are wonderful. Pleasant and helpful. We plan to stay here again. There is a parking garage literally next door. (The guy that was the inspiration for Seinfeld's "Soup N...) is on the other side ). Subway stations are very close as well.
- 2/5
There was no plug at the desk so made it hard to work at the desk. The curtains and carpet were not clean. The bed a, sheets and towels were clean. It was more of the things that can’t be cleaned on a daily basis
- 3/5
Any why was I charged a service fee when I arrived at 3am and left at 9am when there were no towels and bad service
- 3/5
The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly, which is appreciated. However, the rooms (except for the Junior Suite) have windows facing a wall, making it impossible to tell whether it’s day or night. Breakfast is served in a very small room and consists mainly of sweet pastries, with the occasional apple. There’s only one table available, so it’s far from a comfortable breakfast experience. The highlight of the hotel is its excellent location.
- 5/5
Very nice personal touches by the staff in a smallish hotel. Be early for breakfast to grab one of the free muffins at the lounge ;)
- 5/5
This was my 5th stay at this property. Staff is alway pleasant and super helpful. The room is clean and I feel safe. I complained in my last review about the steps in the front of the property. The first step is not at the proper height and I fell on the step. Still having problems with my knee. Attention should be given to this detail. Thanks
- 4/5
Friendly and clean.
- 4/5
Friendly and clean. Spacious room. Only one mirror in bathroom. Well located.
- 5/5
Super close to the Ed Sullivan Theater with easy access to the theater district. The desk staff is amazing and accommodating. Would stay here again for my visits to NYC.
- 4/5
Room dark with no view of city, just a brick wall. Room always clean Great location midtown! Pastries in the Am were always gone at 8/8:30 Nice restaurants nearby. Subway access easy
- 5/5
Turned out great.
- 2/5
Dissapointed !!! No breakfast!!!
- 5/5
We had a great stay; our room was nice. The location is convenient. All hotel staff were super helpful and polite.
- 1/5
The AC was so loud it would wake me up so I tried turning it off but then the room was too warm. The mattress and pillow were uncomfortable. Something in the door or walls cracked and popped loudly every minute or so making it seem like someone was trying to open the door at nights keeping me up. A nightmare And the room had a window but it may as well not have. It was just as dark in the room at 8am as it was at 11pm. Very disorienting. I will never stay here again.
- 5/5
Front desk and hotel staff in general was outstanding! Not what I originally expected, but once I gave it a chance my son and I adored the property.
- 5/5
We really liked the location. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We also appreciated the coffee and pastries every morning.

Staff is extremely relaxed, friendly, and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

Room was a great size but the bed was very uncomfortable!
- 4/5
It was convenient to Carnegie Hall and walkable to Times Square, Central Park and other desirable destinations. Only negitive was the construction site next door jack hammering at 7am. If we were drinkers or late night people we would not have been happy. They should just warn you when reserving.
- 5/5
The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars across the board was the building exterior is being renovated and it was a bit loud right up until 8pm and started up eat 8am.
- 2/5
The building is on the long-term construction for at least one more year. We will woken up at 7:15 in the morning by jackhammers. They both pastries until 10 o’clock by 9 o’clock. They were gone. There is only one elevator in the hotel that was out of service one morning. We had to walk down seven flights of stairs. Then they had the gaul to charge $28 per day for something They called residence fee. when I asked about it they explained that that was for the amenities free bottled water use of the gym. There is no gym. Definitely bypass this hotel pick another. Room fee came close to $300 per night before the residence fee.
- 4/5
The hotel is a bit smaller than I thought it would be and there was a ton of construction going on so between 9-5 it was insanely loud. I know this was out of their control but i worked from the hotel one day and could barely hear in my meetings. One thing to note is that there was only 1 tiny window that when I opened the blind was the view of a brick wall. It made the room very dark all the time which I didn’t mind as I was really just sleeping but it’s not a room I would’ve wanted to spend a long period of time in. Other than that it was a great stay and the staff was so lovely. They helped me book an early morning car to the airport for my departure and were super nice and friendly.
- 4/5
Amazing customer service , but hotel is old. Carpet is in pieces in the room, tripping hazard.
- 4/5
Staff was excellent and very accommodating. Room temperature was impossible to regulate. Showers were not hot
- 5/5
Chose this property because of price and continently located to where my son’s group was staying on a trip. Since it’s a smaller property there was no early check in available which made it hard coming off a red eye. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Rooms were on the smaller side but we only need it to sleep. The guest lounge where they offer breakfast was empty when we went, but not a huge issue. If you are just using for a place to sleep and shower, this is perfect. However if you are traveling with little ones, I’d suggest one that includes a breakfast. They also added property fees etc when you check out. So all together not cheaper thru Expedia.
- 5/5
Front steps need repair. First step not properly spaced.
- 5/5
For our first time in NYC we had the best experience with the staff at the Moderne. Andy and Jerry, the night staff were AMAZING! So helpful and made us feel like extra special guests. Majid and Melvin, the morning staff were just as friendly and helpful. They all asked us how our day went and gave the best recommendations for dining. Our room was cleaned everyday. Such a neat place to stay! We’ve never stayed at a boutique hotel and I felt like we were friends w the staff instead of just people occupying a room. I would easily recommend the Moderne when staying in NYC
- 5/5
Each staff member was super kind! The hotel was very nice, as was the room I stayed in. I was welcomed with a note from the hotel, complimentary truffle chocolates, sparkling, and still water - I thought it was very sweet. I would stay here again and would recommend staying here!
- 3/5
The Hotel itself hidden gem. Small but comfortable. Not much interaction with the staff just check in and out.
- 5/5
In the middle of everything
- 5/5
Nice boutique hotel in great location.
- 3/5
The room was functional and clean, but the noise from the jackhammering was quite a wakeup call. The front desk women was also not very personable.
- 3/5
Hotel is in a great location, close to many food spots. Only downside for me was that it was a bit outdated. Floors were not clean and the heater did not work.
- 5/5
Location safety
- 5/5
Great small hotel walking distance from Lincoln Center
- 4/5
We were a bit unfortunate because of the building/renovation site and I wish it would have been mentioned before, other than that we were happy.
- 5/5
It was my first time visiting NYC and I couldn’t have stayed at a better place! Quiet room with a comfortable bed. It had everything I needed and was close to all the places I wanted to visit. I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Stayed here in the past, exceptionally clen and comfortable room. Staff friendly, perfect for quick getaways.
- 5/5
Great location! Smaller than expected rooms, and a shower that didnt drain properly. No one likes to stand in a puddle of dirty water.
- 5/5
Moderne Hotel was great. The staff are very friendly and it is located in the perfect area. I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel.
- 5/5
Each staff member we spoke was wonderful!
- 5/5
The style of the hotel & the staff was super amazing
- 5/5
I don't want to write a review.
- 3/5
Expedia misadvertised this hotel: it is a nice hotel as is but it’s not a 4-star hotel. Breakfast is just croissants and muffins, nothing else. No restaurants. Shower needs some repair. You hear noise from above and hallways. But the staff, I stayed there 5 days, were all great.
- 4/5
What we loved: - location - pet friendly - parking right beside hotel - baked goods for breakfast - drinks available all day - comfy chairs in lounge - quiet (couldn’t hear much noise from outside) Things that would have improved our stay: - help getting our stroller up the front steps (no ramp) - more comfortable mattress (it’s legit hard as rock) - a better heating unit or a humidifier (maybe it was just our room but the heating unit in 305 was a window unit and it left us having very dry throats every morning)
- 5/5
Loved the hotel. Very clean and friendly staff. Parking garage is reasonably priced and right next door. Super close to central park and many great restaurants
- 2/5
I dont know what to say
- 3/5
The location is great. However, the property is not in good condition and needs renovation. The wear and tear of furniture, walls, curtains and blinds is beyond reasonable. There is not enough comfortable seating in the lobby. There is only one small elevator in the hotel for guests and staff. The AC in the first room I got was very noisy, and I had to change rooms. When I needed help carrying a suitcase down the stairs, no one came to help. Overall, the theater district has much better hotels for the same price.
- 5/5
A great option to stay in mid-town. Very business-friendly, clean, spacious and a great location.
- 2/5
The hotel is OK, but it lacks the updating and amenities that would put it over the top. It is in a great location but seems dated and very worn. I was given a room on the first floor and could hear everything that went on at the check-in desk as clear as day.
- 5/5
We loved our stay at Moderne Hotel! The location is perfect and very close to several subway and bus routes. The room was quiet and spacious. The beds were amazingly comfortable. The free pastries and hot drinks every morning saved us time and money. The hotel was super clean. The best thing was the kindness of the front desk staff who answered all of our questions and helping us find our way around. We would highly recommend Moderne Hotel!
- 5/5
Je vais y retourner! Nous avons été accueilli comme des rois ;) le lit était si confortable ! Merci , je le recommande !

Great location, good sized rooms with friendly staff
- 5/5
I stayed here for work for a night and I was pleasantly surprised of this hotel. The place was clean and the staff very attentive. Khalid was exceptionally friendly and informative. I will definitely stay here again!
- 4/5
Great location. Cute small hotel but needs a bit of focus on cleaning. Rooms are small but for just sleeping are perfect. Most of the staff are really nice.
- 2/5
I reserved a large room , and paid extra for it, but was provided a standard room. Construction next door was unattractive. The building shown in the property ad was not the real building.
- 5/5
The staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. I was upgraded to a suite which was a welcomed surprise! Would definitely stay again!
- 5/5
Thank you Andy for making our stay amazing and for recommend places to eat. Thanks Khalid for today.

Excellent hotel, nice place. The staff is gentle and attentive.
- 4/5
Very good
- 5/5
The location was super convenient, the staff were all lovely, it was quiet and affordable. We will definitely re-book for our next visit.
- 2/5
The mattress was beyond hard, felt like sleeping on the floor. The HVAC unit in the room was so loud - sounded like a jet plane starting so I had to turn off the HVAC in order to try and sleep.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean room. Convenient!
- 5/5
This hotel is a keeper! From the time we arrived until we left, everything was excellent. High points - friendly staff, funky hall wallpaper, super clean, comfy beds, excellent shower, great location, good recommendations for restaurants - really everything we wanted. We often just pick what the algorithm spits out but we will return to this place!
- 2/5
Nothing look like they described there property except it’s a nice location close from square time and Central Park but the room condition was very pad almost has only bed and small bathroom whith no view,
