- Friendly and helpful staff
- Limited kitchen amenities
- Traffic noise due to proximity to busy road

I don't know how it received a 9.2 rating from other guests, but we had several issues with our room -- the heater in the first bedroom was okay, but blocked by the table; the heater is the second bedroom was either on (full blast) or off, so my friend was either too hot or too cold. The shower is tiny and not suitable for a grown adult, even my 5'2" 105 pound friend...maybe my four-year granddaughter would have managed. The hairdryer fell off the wall because it was attached with two screws into sheetrock (no mollybolts). Worse than all that, it was overpriced. I made the mistake of assuming that the high rating and high price would provide a nicer place to stay. Not a great location either. Disappointed!
- 4/5
This is my second time staying at this motel. Everything was great, check in went smoothly and quickly. The shower head is made for someone taller (I'm not that thin and felt like I had to run around in the shower to get wet) but otherwise the amenities were good for a motel. For some reason the road noise seemed really loud this time--might recommend bringing earplugs. Other than that, I'd definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
Basic hotel price is reasonable and the room was clean. I could hear the road but given it's proximity to 5 and Capitol it's to be expected.
- 5/5
The rooms are so clean as is the property. The beds and pillows are great
- 5/5
Cute 50s-style motel with modern interiors and friendly staff.
- 4.5/5
Thanks to the owners. The Neon signing is fantastic! Easy on-off from I-5 yet quiet enough.
- 5/5
Parking was very easy and felt safe. Very clean room. It is on a kind of busy road but noise did not bother at all. The kitchenette was super useful and very clean. Staff were extremely helpful. Will definitely come back.
- 4/5
Very clean, tidy room, friendly staff
- 5/5
Never fails...great stay each time and I've stayed here many times. Love the interactions with staff (owners/family and hired alike). The different rooms I've stayed in have all been welcoming and comfortable (although I do have a favorite, which they give me whenever possible). Family owned and well kept. I'll be staying again soon, I'm sure.
- 5/5
I've stayed here numerous times. Privately owned and you can tell they attempt to keep things clean and in good condition. I feel safe when I stay and the rooms have always been clean and communications great.
- 5/5
always a great stay
- 4/5
The front desk staff was very friendly, and the room was spotless. We will definitely be open to staying here again
- 4/5
Front desk staff very pleasant and the room was spotless. We will definitely stay here again :)
- 3.5/5
Out of date heater/a/c unit It didn't have a thermostat that shut off the fan very annoying right next to bed
- 4.5/5
The bed's were super comfortable, the motel was 10-15 minutes away from just about everything (malls, the city, parks, ect!) I don't think I've ever stayed at a motel this nice before, the inside was very clean, they did a good job maintaining the outside too! My only nit pick was the shower in our room, it was rather small and hard to move around in.
- 5/5
Very comfortable, family-owned place. Clean, convenient, and accommodating.
- 5/5
Great front desk help. Rooms are super clean and unique in a very good way.
- 5/5
Clean room and easy access to community
- 5/5
This is the second time I have stayed at this small family-run business. My room was spotlessly clean and well-maintained, with free parking right outside the rooms. I even had a little kitchenette. It's in a sort of suburban area but not too far from downtown.
- 2.5/5
Clean and updated No freezer in mini fridge. Bed hard.
- 4/5
The bed was comfortable but on the soft side. The towels had a mild fragrance which would bother someone who needs to be fragrance free.
- 4/5
The location was good for us - an easy drive to the airport and accessible to major highways. the proprietor was very friendly and the accommodations delightfully retro. It had everything we needed and was comfortably homey. We were fine with it all
- 5/5
Wonderful staff, lovely location, hop and a skip to portland with easy parking and cute red brick aesthetic. Will be back.
- 5/5
Nothing really
- 5/5
Simple place but immaculately clean. Will keep staying here when in Portland.
- 4/5
Nice staff, motel is old school but nice enough and good for the price. A bit of road noise, though, overnight.
- 5/5
Nice and cozy, I personally like the location. huge rooms and very comfortable. This is my go to location for Portland. uber ride 15mins to the bars.
- 4.5/5
A cute small hotel has friendly staff, clean and has everything I need for a comfortable stay towels are little too old
- 5/5
Loved the separation of room. Traveling with my mom, helping my daughter move out of college. Location was great for us. You do hear highway noise but it didn’t bother us. Can’t beat the price for the space. I’d definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Absolutely fantastic stay. Highly highly recommend!
- 5/5
Always love staying at this place. This stuff is remarkable the area is nice. Good food options around, I'll definitely be back.
- 5/5
The updated but old fashioned feeling was comforting
- 5/5
We usually stay in a big name brand hotel but on a recent road trip we stayed at a roadside motel. Thats why i decided to go with your motel. I was so pleased with your place. It was so quiet and peaceful. Your motel is very clean inside and out. I will definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Clean and adequate for my needs
- 5/5
Nice place
- 5/5
Clean, well maintained rooms offer great value for the cost. Would stay again.
- 5/5
This has been my go-to place quite a few times now. Friendly, family owned biz and as hard as it is to keep a place pristine, they certainly care and have that in mind. The rooms I've stayed in have been comfy, clean and I know I'll be back again.
- 5/5
All I needed was a few hours of solid sleeping and I got it.
- 5/5
Very well kept older motel. Staff was excellent. Comfortable and roomy. I would warn anyone with ambulation concerns that there is a step to navigate at the foyer of the room and at the bathroom. Foyer has a railing.
- 5/5
I’ve read a few reviews concerning being so close to the freeway and you do hear traffic sometimes but I have never personally had an issue with noise being too disruptive.
- 5/5
This place was clean and comfortable. Perfect for our stay.
- 3/5
Clean but smell something unpleasant. Had to run noisy ac. But bad smell don't go away
- 5/5
Good value for less than $100. Rooms are small but clean and quiet. It was very near to Lewis and Clark College, and within walking distance to one of the Original Pancake Houses, as well as some other restaurants that looked decent. Definitely a better choice than those more expensive chain hotels nearby where you can hear the I-5 traffic.
- 5/5
They always take good care of us. This was not our first stay. Rooms are always clean and the staff always polite and friendly!
- 5/5
A really nice room. Very clean, looks recently renovated and very nice mauve paint. Definitely nicer than the price. Location is good. Several restaurants in walking distance
- 5/5
Rooms were clean and well maintained, the property is cute, very spacious, and it was very easy to stay here. I will definitely return.
- 5/5
Honestly was very surprised how good the place was. Big room for bed, separate big kitchen and bathroom. All extremely clean, and well stocked. Easy parking and easy to walk to a few good food places for breakfast. Easy to get to and get back to. It will definitely be my go to when I come back this way
- 3/5
Good spot, quiet and clean.
- 5/5
I would highly recommend. Quick and easy nothing fancy.
- 5/5
Cute rooms and clean. Had a great experience here.
- 5/5
Property was a convenient location. It is older, but is very quiet and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.
- 4/5
This is a great budget motel that has been renovated nicely. The best part for me is they actually offer a two bedroom (with just one bathroom) so there is separation for privacy for those who need it. My only issue is if you use debit they jack up the residual deposit, which is hefty compared to what bigger chains charge. It is also loud because it butts up against the freeway.
- 5/5
Cute and cool property. We had two separate bedrooms each with a queen bed, clean, comfortable, basic amenities including small fridge and microwave. Only thing slightly uncomfortable was the small shower.
- 5/5
What a wonderful place to stay. Quiet and very clean. Staff was super friendly. Also very safe area.
- 4/5
Surprisingly quiet inside the room considering it's location between I5 and Hwy 99. Bed was memory foam, which made us hot.
- 5/5
Its located between the freeway and highway so expect some car noise. White noise will drown it out while sleeping. Otherwise, this is a great place to stay close to downtown Portland. I had a good experience.
- 5/5
So well cared for - comfortable bed - super clean - updated facility - all one level - love the on site parking - plus affordable!
- 4/5
Better than I expected. Cleaning/maid service was amazing. A little loud street side but would absolutely stay here again. AC/heat worked perfectly. Shower nice and hot. Loved the 2 bedrooms.
- 5/5
Easy access and very clean
- 5/5
Comfy and clean room, nice area with no noise. I would definitely stay here again and would definitely recommend to others.
- 4/5
Surprisingly clean and up kept for a motel. Had no noise from neighbors but it is in-between two main roads. Not much in the way of walking distance attractions but that wasn't what I was looking for. Will definitely stay again when traveling on the motorcycle
- 5/5
Nothing
- 5/5
I loved this Motel! Staff was friendly and welcoming. The room was modern and clean and the place is close enough to downtown Portland, and the major highways. Also plenty of restaurants and grocery stores on Barbur blvd where the property is located.I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
What a little treasure in the heart of Portland! Friendly staff, clean rooms, convenient location.
- 4/5
Little outdated but very clean and kinda cute with units joined, but given a "separate" appearance with brick facade. Check in was easy and greeting was very warm. Older neighborhood. My unit was large, had a separate full kitchen, which I didn't use. Bed was comfy.
- 5/5
Filler so I can submit the multiple choice answers.
- 5/5
nice people
- 2.5/5
The reception received from the receptionist was less than satisfactory. Most unhelpful when we asked for help with storing our cases for an hour and rather unhospitable but smiled the whole time we were speaking with him.
- 5/5
I love this place and will stay here every time I come to Portland. It is just too easy.
- 5/5
I have stayed here a few times and each one has been welcoming and comfortable. The upkeep on some of these places is very difficult at times and I can tell, they certainly try and keep everything in good condition. For those super sensitive to noise, be aware of traffic noise coming through (but nothing my little travel fan didn't help with). I appreciate and love supporting small business owners vs the corp/chain hotels...so, I'm sure I'll be back.
- 5/5
Everything was excellent. I enjoyed my stay
- 5/5
Family-owned business. Patient and helpful staff and were very accommodating when I requested to stay another night last minute. Very clean room. I have yet to hear any noise from neighboring room. It did smell a bit musty when I walked in, but I aired it out which helped. The shower is also pretty small but had hot water/good pressure. Convenient location to Lewis/Clark.
- 5/5
I was very pleased how clean it was. The maid service was amazing and i left her a tip and a note. The check in staff was very pleasant and super nice and knowledgeable, i enjoyed going to the local safeway to shop for food, it was a very cool grocery store that i have never experienced before, oeople were very friendly. The coffee stand next to the motel was stellar and i highly enjoyed the name of the stand cslled "cranky Coffee". I cane to the city to have an out paitant surgery and it was very comforting to rest, very comfortable bed and love having a kitchen. I highly recommend this place and would give them 10 stars.
- 4/5
Easy access to room. Clean. Good location. Close to freeway. Bring earplugs.
- 5/5
Thoughtful owners, clean room, good price
- 5/5
Perfect little motel with beds in separate rooms. Short drive from where we needed to be. Very clean, nothing fancy.
- 5/5
Great little motel! Would highly recommend
- 5/5
Enjoyed this hotel. 2nd time here. And it’s nice and cozy. Heaters work very well. Enough parking. Good location
- 4/5
This is a cute, clean little motel. It was quiet and convenient. The staff was very helpful on check-in with suggestions for breakfasts. Unfortunately, the only heating and cooling are in the main room. This means that if you want privacy, the bedroom and the bathroom are very cold by morning.
- 5/5
Needed a night's stay near OHSU. Very reasonable, surprisingly quiet (between I5 and 99). Looks recently painted and remodeled. Small but exactly what we needed. Very clean and modest. Nice and friendly welcome. We will stay again as it is very convenient to all the places we needed to go. Very happy.
- 5/5
Very courteous and friendly staff. Property is well maintained. Easy access to southwest Portland area. We have enjoyed our three-nights stay here at Capitol Hill and are looking forward to a return trip!
- 3/5
Our bed literally shook all night with the passing trucks on I-5. Everything was basic. We found some previous guest’s bottle of liquor in the closet. Even for budget, the stay did not meet expectations
- 3.5/5
Good value for the money. Family run business and it shows as the property is very well kept. If you just want a clean, basic place to stay at a good price, this place will it the bill. Didn't bother us but if you are sensitive to sound ask for a room at the back of the property as there is traffic noise.
- 5/5
Only tiny complaint would be a little cold in the bathroom...
- 4/5
Extraordinarily well maintained motel with very clean and comfortable rooms. It lacked, however, any breakfast accommodation, not even a coffee dispenser. Coffee and a donut would have made a bid difference.
- 5/5
“The staff are great, and the parking lot is easy to enter and exit. The property owner was very kind and helpful.”
- 5/5
Very pleasant stay. Clean room, good number of pillows, and had a stove and full fridge. Only downside was a VERY small toilet. I will 100% stay here the next time I visit Portland.
- 5/5
The Capitol Hill Motel is a vintage 50’s-era motel that has been impressively updated! It was super clean and provided a good resting place for the night.
- 2.5/5
Clean Shows its age in every way. Small room, smaller bathroom.
- 5/5
They were very inviting and hospitable and had great knowledge of the area. It is a very cute kind of retro little place. Like mini Melrose place. And is far cleaner and updated then one might gather on first glance. Very comfortable and allowed me a little escape from the ex-wife and kids during the holidays.
- 5/5
This property has a super cute retro vibe while also being clean, convenient and cost effective.
- 5/5
Staff was amazing
- 5/5
Great location, the rooms are clean and fresh and the owners are very nice people Nothing
- 4/5
Very nice friendly people, looked sketchy going in but turned out to be a gem.
- 5/5
Full kitchen (need to being own plates and utens2), very good bed, nice reception.
- 5/5
It was close to an event I was attending.
- 5/5
This motel was quiet, clean, and convenient to the places I wanted to go. I highly recommend Capital Hill Motel. We really appreciated having a full refrigerator and microwave. We didn't use the stove, but it was nice to know we could. You must bring your own plates, cups, and flatware, which we did (paper / plastic). Will use this hotel again when we are in Portland.
- 5/5
Capital Hill Motel was fantastic. It was clean, convenient, and quiet. The bed was comfortable, and the linens were up-to-date. Highly recommend.
- 4/5
Good basic room. Water pressure for the shower could’ve been higher.
- 5/5
Very friendly service. Very clean!!!
- 5/5
Excellent service and great location. Very clean and quiet.
- 5/5
Loved this motel. It´s very clean and has been updated. Beautiful room, will definitely return. Excellent Thai place across the street, good location for our business in town
- 2/5
Just rude inconsiderate staff in an ugly environment.
- 5/5
This is a charming motel with friendly staff. Rooms are neat and pleasant. It’s convenient to the downtown area and has plenty of public transit available.
- 1/5
When I arrived i tried to use my debit card and they were going to charge me 250.00 deposit . I said I travel all over US and have never paid that much. It was 100.00 for credit card deposit . She claimed this is on their website but I booked through you and it said nothing about a deposit of that amount . I was in the room preparing for my 11:00 check out and they call me on the room phone and start telling me I need to be out by 11:00 . I said I know this I still have 15 minutes what is the problem . When I get to the desk the lady was being rude and then her husband comes rushing out aggressively and starts cursing me . This is ridiculous I have never been treated like this at a hotel . The place may have been cleaned but everything was old and nothing to be acting like anyone would want to steal that old worn out stuff
- 5/5
A lovely little motel, well maintained, clean and comfortable. Would stay again.
- 5/5
We accidentally left the bag, and they reached out to us immediately and called us.
- 5/5
Very friendly owners, apparently it's been family-owned for 49 years! The property is older but is being remodeled. It is next to a busy road but is surprisingly quiet. Very clean and a comfortable bed. A nice detail was they have different pillow types, from soft to very firm, it was thoughtful touch. Oh, and the mini-fridge has a proper freezer, a main selling point for me.
- 5/5
Clean
- 5/5
Rooms are spotless with updated furniture and amenities.
- 4/5
A very convenient location and a very clean and comfortable room. As it is close to the I5 freeway and a busy road there is some road noise.
- 5/5
This property was great. Full kitchen facilities. The outside looks like it could be from the 50’s and the inside was clean as a whistle. Would recommend to anyone.
- 5/5
Awesome service with really great rooms! The toilet was a little bit awkward as it was super close to the sink but the price, quality of the room was great
- 5/5
Loved two rooms
- 5/5
We had a great experience staying here. It was safe, comfortable, clean, and very well maintained. Pride of ownership is obvious. Highly recommended.
- 5/5
Would definitely stay again!
- 3/5
Easy and economical choice stay.
- 3/5
We usually stay and this motel in room 35 and have a wonderful stay. This time we were given room 29 and it was not great. There was only one chair for 2 people, the closet is tucked away in a corner and you have to fight a bedside stand to get to it, and the bathroom is small and very hard to maneuver in. If you get room 35, you’ll enjoy your stay.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, quiet location, super clean and well maintained rooms. Quaint setting from the 40’/50’s, but up to date ammenities
- 5/5
Clean, cozy, Homey
- 5/5
The owners made us feel like family
- 5/5
Loved having two separate rooms for a reasonable price and parking was easy. Plenty of choices for restaurants.
- 5/5
Very cute and nice location beside the coffee shack and restaurants. The Red Curry at the Thail Restaurant across the street is to die for!
- 5/5
The man at the front desk was really friendly and personable!
- 5/5
Very clean and kept up well. It’s next to a busy road so there were some really loud cars that passed by. I put white noise on my cell phone and that took care of the problem.
- 4/5
The interior is so much better than first impressions suggest. While the room is pretty basic, it's spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The location met our needs for visiting family, but it's not near sites that appeal to tourists.
- 4/5
At one time this was a dumpy 1940’d style hotel (drive up cottages). I stayed here in the 1970’s and it was in pretty rough shape then. The new owners renovations were done correctly (not just new paint etc…) if you are looking for a spacious, clean, retro type motel, this is your place. .
- 5/5
Excellent family run motel, we will be back the next time we are in Portland.
- 4/5
Sketchy looking old motel on old 99 turned out to be pretty good as other reviews had suggested. Quieter than expected. Room had funky step after entry and awkward low window in bathroom that looked like a security or privacy risk.
- 5/5
Cozy
- 4/5
The motel was very clean and comfortable. It's right on a busy road but with the AC on couldn't hear it much. We were in Portland for a family event so we're in the motel basically to sleep but it served us well and we would stay there again.
- 4/5
The only negative would be that the shower was extra tiny; good luck turning without hitting the walls, and no counter space in the bathroom. Otherwise, we loved the room. The separate rooms was a bonus!
- 5/5
This a refitted older motel property on a once busy thoroughfare in SW Portland. The rooms are large with a kitchen included. The shower was heavenly. We arrived with our bicycles and the Manager offered us access to one of the mini garages to the rooms are attached to for storage. Good breakfast options nearby.
- 2/5
Other then that, the room is on the cheap side, very very basic with the cheapest furniture and towels possible. Tiny shower. They charged for an extra person but there wasn't an extra towel for example and no crib or pack n play option for a baby. Overall, we were very disappointed specifically because of the price which is not cheap.
- 5/5
Family owned business, nice and clean room, strong, air-conditioning, and good shower. Really good deals compared to other places around.
- 4/5
The mattresses are a little on the soft side, and although it's great to have a kitchenette, you'll need to bring your own cutlery, etc., if you plan to eat there. (And I can totally understand why the property might not want to stock those items.) I particularly appreciated the flexibility when checking in. It was a shame that I couldn't use my Apple Card, but everything worked out in the end with my other payment options.
