Reviews
The Harlow Hotel in Portland is generally well-liked for its cleanliness, comfortable beds, friendly staff, and convenient location. However, some guests express concerns about the surrounding area due to homelessness and feel unsafe at night.
- Clean and comfortable rooms
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Surrounding area can feel unsafe due to homelessness
- Limited parking options

Bed comfort was ok. I think the mattress was a hybrid or inner spring which was a little bouncy and offered no movement isolation. Pillows were too fluffy for us as they were very high. We got a queen city-view room which was nice, but an interior, off-the-street room would have been better as there is a lot of middle-of-the-night noise such as loud cars and street racers, random yelling, and other sounds. Of course, ear plugs or noise canceling headphones would help. It was still excellent and offered great value, so I’m not really complaining, just making some observations for anyone thinking of staying here to consider.
- 2/5
Check in 2 hours late, absolutely no amenities in room, TV didn't work, no complimentary coffee and no housekeeping on some days. Also had to reactivate key each day which we only found out because we were locked out each night. Too much money for what was offered

Great one night stay. Loved the room and the location

Had a great stay here. It was a quick one night trip, and I was close to lots of good food, Powell's books, and bars. The staff was super sweet and even made sure my room wasn't directly next to a loud family that had just checked in. Only down side was the room smelled like BO when I walked in! But leaving the windows open for the afternoon seemed to clear it for the most part.

Was in the older district and very pretty on the inside. The windows in our room actually opened and aloud us to have fresh breeze Nothing

Good location.
- 5/5
Parking was confusing at first to find. It would be nice for the website listing to mention that there is a loading/unloading parking spot for guests and there are paid parking spots available nearby.
- 5/5
I had a wonderful stay, the staff was amazing, very attentive and always ready to provide an excellent stay. The amenities first-rate, plenty of clean towels and anything you would need, the cafe has great coffee! The room was very clean and well stocked. Best sleep I’ve had in a while! The shower also was excellent - I would highly recommend a stay here at the Harlow - and due to travel delays I am back for my second night! The location is very good - only walking distance to Union Station, very accessible to a variety of good food with very quick delivery for take-out.
- 4.5/5
The staff were excellent, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the overall service excellent!!! I have already recommended this to several friends!
- 2/5
Check-in manager was nice and offered me an early check-in. (Countered by night manager who was unhelpful and unable to think on her feet.) Liked high ceilings. Rooms weren't clean. The a/c unit remote was broken in my room and was too cold. I couldn't turn it up and the unit was mounted too high to reach. The night manager could not think of any way to help. I had to run ideas by her every 10 seconds. It was my idea to move me to another room. How is this person employed by a hospitality org? The location is near a park with a bunch of homeless people (big problem in Portland) and also near a transition house--which I applaud--but there were seemingly drugged out people on the sidewalks and the front door of the hotel is locked in the middle of the day so that was my first sign. I am a Genius level 3 member and was awarded a free upgrade. The room was supposed to face the courtyard--it faced a brick wall.
- 3/5
The rooms at Harlow Hotel are nice. However, the area around the hotel is not the best to walk around in. While it's only about 1/2 mile from Powell's Books and other shops, the immediate neighborhood at the hotel has a significant homeless population on the streets. So, it's just something to be aware of. However, the rooms at the hotel were decent for the price.

Stayed one night and the location right off Glisan was a nightmare for sleep – cars were racing down the road every 5 to 10 minutes, and screaming outside continued throughout the night. If you’re young and looking for a party-adjacent spot on a Friday night, this place fits the vibe, but if you’re actually trying to rest, look elsewhere. I considered switching rooms but doubted it would make much of a difference given how close the hotel sits to the street. Save yourself the misery and book somewhere quieter.

In the heart of downtown, this renovated space was nice and the staff very helpful

What a dump! There were literally bloodstains on a pillow and a robe. The bathroom door handle fell off. Avoid.

Loved the vintage style of the Harlow Hotel! But it was updated and super clean. Walking distance to parks, restaurants, cool lounges, coffee shops, etc. Easy parking. Excellent value!

No mini fridge.

They were great! Didn't mind me checking in around 11 pm, held my bags for me after check-out while I ran around Portland before my train, the room was super cute and clean. I will definitely be back, and I'll recommend it to anyone needing a hotel in Portland.
- 5/5
Great hotel in a great locations. Cute, comfy rooms.
- 5/5
The hotel is clean, the bedding is comfortable, the pillows are soft, the bed is excellent, and the customer service is superb. Highly recommend. The location is great because it’s downtown; however, you need to be careful of your surroundings, as you might attract the attention of people loitering around the area.

The room was decent enough. BUT the walls are very thin. Could hear all the neighboring rooms and all the street noise. Too close of location to jail and many homeless/jobless on sidewalk
- 5/5
The historic 1882 building is beautifully, historically renovated. Gorgeous place!
- 4/5
The room is clean.
- 5/5
Very clean , very friendly staff and walking distance to train station
- 5/5
The rooms are lovely but could maybe use a chair (mine didn’t have one). The bathroom is exquisite. Cafe being on premises was a nice touch.
- 5/5
Staff was awesome and always right there when you need them. The room was clean and the towel warmer was a nice touch. Parking was tough, but there's a parking lot a couple blocks away that's not too expensive.
- 4/5
Its a budget hotel so I cannot be too critical. It worked great for me. Good location though a bit dicey near the train station. Parking is a bit of a risk so hide your stuff. The hallways smell like pot but I'm not offended.
- 4/5
Good
- 5/5
The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. It's close to the light rail and the old down town.
- 5/5
Paid parking lot 2 blocks down is best. Near the park.
- 3/5
The room was clean and spacious and the location is great. But it's a real bummer not to be able to make tea in my room. I woke up hours before the cafe was open. Also staff's suggestion that I use street parking was not super helpful as the max time is 2 hours. I found a pay lot a block away where I could have parked all day for relatively cheap so that info up front would have been helpful.
- 3/5
Cleaned my room once in 8 days. Staff made no effort to communicate with me made no eye contact anytime I came or went. There was no parking and no helpful suggestions on where to park. Hotel was two blocks from homeless encampment pearl district isn't what it used to be
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel and room, only a couple blocks from Amtrak station.
- 4/5
Great budget hotel. Excellent location
- 2/5
I wish I had said something at the time but the clerk who checked me in said my room number out loud which shouldn't be done due to it being unsafe, luckily no one overheard. There was no staff available in the lobby after 9pm and they mention they have people available in their lobby cafe at all times but during my stay I didn't see anyone. I was given an ADA room even though I did not book one and there were other non-ADA rooms available. The sheets on the bed were scratchy and uncomfortable, there were a few stains/marks on the bedding. The towel warmer did not work in the bathroom and the lighting in the room was terrible but in the bathroom it was the worst, it basically was just the light from the mirror. The hotel looked cute and promising but my experience makes me not want to return.
- 5/5
Great place to stay, such a cozy and different feel for a hotel. Bed was sooooooi comfortable too!
- 5/5
Close to union station. This place was clean, the bathroom was very nice. The mirror had a button for the light. Bodywash and shampoo were good. TV had streaming devices. Overall was pretty impressed for the price! Will stay here again when traveling
- 5/5
It's my second time staying at this hotel and I really enjoyed it!
- 5/5
Delightful and the location was perfect I was able to walk to great restaurants. I will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Excellent value. Near transportation, walkable to Union Station. Extremely courteous and accommodating staff.
- 5/5
Lovely short stay here. Super comfortable bed, great bathroom, easy check in. Good price. Recommended!
- 5/5
Great stay, thank you
- 3/5
The surrounding area also felt unclean and somewhat unsettling, which further impacted the stay. While I understand the neighborhood may be in transition, the level of disruption and noise did not align with expectations. Unfortunately, despite the positives of the room itself, I would not choose to stay here again.
- 5/5
Great!
- 5/5
They require your room key to even get into the hotel which makes you feel way safer coming in at night. There is always I mean always someone at the front desk or the cafe to help.
- 5/5
It was easy to locate, the Staff was exceptional, they have a cafe, yet there was no complimentary coffee, there was a microwave to use. I absolutely loved my room, cozy corner room overlooking the street so I could see the goings on. Portland is beautiful, lots of people on the streets, yet people were to themselves, doing their own thing. I enjoyed my overnight stay. I will recommend the Harlow Hotel
- 5/5
Had a wonderful time great for solo travelers safe secure, very quiet and close to the train walking distance to a bunch of cool sites wouldn’t pass on this one
- 4/5
The room was very clean, great bath room, Swedish shower! No fridge or microwave and no carts for the suitcases! All hotels need those. But the price was right, the hotel has been restored to a beautiful era! Not sure about parking, though!
- 3/5
Parking is terrible. The room is clean, except for underneath the bed covered in animal fur. The vent on the AC have not been cleaned. The night worker with the man’s hair cut is really rude. They’re very nosy. I got charged for stained towels even though I did inform staff of the spill. And it was two towels and they claimed I stained all of them. I wasn’t given my deposit back. And was told I couldn’t have my emotional support animal there.
- 4/5
Staff is friendly and attentive, although they had to cover both the front desk and cafe. The cafe was pretty light on options . Room was very comfortable.
- 5/5
loved the 24 hour access gym and cafe!
- 4/5
We were pleasantly surprised with our room when we first got to the hotel- really cool vibe! The room and the rest of the hotel was clean. The shower was really nice. We wish there had been a mini fridge in the room for waters, leftovers etc. Everything was within walking distance (within an a half mile to mile), but there were not many restaurants directly near the hotel. The area right around the hotel can be a little rough, especially at night. Overall, nice hotel and friendly staff.
- 4/5
Room are very clean and housekeeping does a wonderful job. The front desk workers are great and friendly. Lovely to talk it up. And willingness to share the areas around. Always helpful. The surrounding area is not the greatest. Homeless gets feed right out front on sat and Sunday. But we didn’t feel unsafe.
- 4/5
Easier parking
- 5/5
Nice room
- 5/5
From outside of the street the hotel looked old but our room was stunning with high ceiling with newly updated interior and furnitures. Definitely this place is worth of money. We walked to waterfront in the morning and shopping center was less than 15 min away from the hotel by car.
- 5/5
Very clean, huge room, any toiletry needed, cafe downstairs to use too
- 2/5
I was overcharged compared to my booking price and it was not resolved in the 4 days I stayed. There was no mini fridge available in the room, and the advertised towel warmer in the bathroom did not work. A completely separate guest was accidentally given access to my room and fully walked in while I was there and I was not compensated for this at all. Incredibly disappointed.
- 5/5

- 5/5
Clean and cute room very spacious !
- 5/5
Easy check in, comfortable bed, nice shower!
- 5/5
Very nice
- 5/5
Old school charm with modern features.
- 5/5
Nice place, comfortable and clean rooms.
- 4/5
The room was nice and clean, we stayed here twice in two different rooms. First room was on the 2nd floor and was spacious and the on second visit we had a room on the 3rd floor and it was bit smaller. The rooms do not have a coffeemaker or a fridge but coffee is available for purchase from their cafe at a reasonable price. It is conveniently located close to the Amtrak station, there are homelessness in the surrounding area, but it doesn't interfere with the property, We will stay here again if needed.
- 5/5
Clean room, awesome staff
- 5/5
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The Lonny was cosy and quiet. Everything was very clean. I loved my room. The veiw was cute, and the hotel is nice and quiet at all times. At least in my room. I didn't notice any noise that would bother me. Love the shower in the bathroom. Sooo nice. Only thing I wish the room had was a little mini fridge. I will definitely come to the Harlow hotel again
- 5/5
Second time here and second time I had to stand outside ringing the bell for as much as five minutes for someone to buzz me in. Overall, it’s a lovely place with comfy beds and clean bathrooms. Great location: only five-minute walk to Amtrak station and even less to light rail.
- 5/5
Great property, historic building. Quiet rooms amist the city hustle. One of the staff members was on fire, serving food & drink at the cafe & later seen folding linens & running the front desk. Impressive, didnt get the name but she knows who she is!
- 5/5
The building is over 140 years old but was squeaky clean - not always easy to do with historic buildings. Wonderful 12’ ceilings, deep windowsills. Room unit for heating / cooling kept it super comfy. Staff is super friendly proficient and helpful.
- 5/5
Great location near public transportation. Easy to get around.
- 5/5
Great experience
- 2/5
Noise from the street, inability of check in staff...and lackadaisical approach to service
- 4/5
Enjoyed the always-open cafe adjacent to the hotel managed by the same staff member that checks you in. Able to get former coffee and treats at anytime day or night. Room had very high ceilings, giving one a sense of wide open space. Overnight was quiet, roo AC worked, and shower had no issues. Towel-warming rack was a fun bonus.
- 4/5
Clean room, spacious, walkable
- 5/5
Amazing renovated place steps away from my train station. Super convenient!
- 5/5
The staff was great! Super friendly and helpful! Espresso on site is a plus! Comfortable and clean.
- 5/5
Beautiful refurbished older, Hotel good security, large rooms
- 5/5
I had an excellent stay at Harlow Hotel. The room was spotless, well-organized, and very comfortable. The staff was welcoming, professional, and always ready to help with anything I needed. I really appreciated how quiet and relaxing the atmosphere was. Everything from check-in to check-out was smooth and easy. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable, and stress-free experience.
- 3/5
I enjoyed the stay, my room was clean and spacious. I wish the staff had been a bit more present and their 24 hour cafe hardly ever had an attendant. Overall, pretty comfortable stay.
- 5/5
Clean and spacious room, nice staff
- 5/5
Clean, quiet
- 3/5
Clean room. Courteous staff. No parking except for paid on the street. No breakfast available.
- 5/5
Check-in went pretty smooth. The place was clean and mostly quiet. The coffee shop was really nice. They had the fireplace going in the foyer as I left. I had a really great stay.
- 5/5
Everything was really good
- 5/5
The room was clean, the staff was kind, the TV had apps and the internet
- 5/5
I had a wonderful stay! What really stood out to me was how clean and well-maintained everything was—the room was spotless and very comfortable. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful which made the stay even more convenient and relaxing. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
Everything was great!
- 4/5
Very nice, historic hotel. Recently updated to modern standards. We arrived by train and it was a 5 minute walk. The area is a little sketchy with homeless ppl and drug use everywhere. Shelters nearby but poorly managed. The city allows loitering and it is out of controll. This part of Portland is very nice otherwise and has a lot of potential. Kudos to the hotel owner for fixing it up.
- 5/5
Staff was courteous and I love how the hotel was locked so only guests at the hotel could stay there
- 5/5
The reception staff is so nice and the room is clean, comfortable, and spacious. I had a great time here and Harlow will be my first choice next time I stay in Portland!
- 5/5
Great staff and perfectly renovated.
- 4/5
Great staff. Good location
- 5/5
Great hotel great price and convenient to bus lines, and union station plus all the old town attractions
- 5/5
Clean Room. Friendly Staff. No Complaints
- 5/5
Clean room, excellent staff.
- 5/5
The room was clean and spacious. The building itself was secure and I appreciated the cafe being open 24 hours a day for hotel guests.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel with friendly staff, the area it's in does leave something to be desired but not the fault of the hotel
- 5/5
Rooms were cute and very clean!
- 5/5
Street parking was ample. The room was beautiful and the bed very comfortable.
- 5/5
It was great
- 4/5
Room was clean and quiet, although we didn't get our room cleaned not once. Other than that, it was a great stay
- 4/5
Staff was helpful and kind. Room was clean but no working USB ports and can be a little noisy due to older building/windows
- 1/5
Misrepresented room (“deluxe / city view” that wasn’t) Extreme, ongoing noise that prevented sleep Mechanical knocking inside the walls all night Broken TV controls BROKEN BATHROOM DOOR THAT TRAPPED ME
- 5/5
The amazing staff always makes me feel comfortable and like I’m at home.
- 2/5
This place was very disappointing. The front person (a woman) was unhappy, not helpful, and arrogant. We were told that the coffee place is open at 7 am, however, there was no coffee and we were told that the manager will come at some time but not sure when and bring coffee.
- 5/5
Staff were attentive and responsive to needs, the hotel room had everything we needed, and the bed was very comfortable. I'll be staying here again next time!
- 5/5
I enjoyed my stay immensely.
- 5/5
The hotel was great but sadly, the area is terrible.
- 5/5
Our service, our room and the location of this hotel was absolutely perfect! The coffee shop was divine and exactly what we needed when we needed it. Parking felt safe and the area was nice.
- 1/5
Waste of time. Employees with something else to do. Immediately left and went to the Hampton inn a block away. Avoid avoid avoid.
- 5/5
Had an amazing stay here! The staff was awesome, the rooms were spotless and comfortable, we had a smart TV and even a heated towel rack! We didn’t have a fridge in our room, but the staff offered to store our drinks in the café fridge if needed! After we checked out, I realized I left my necklace in the room and called the hotel. They went above and beyond to mail it back to me. We were only there for two nights, but the kindness and attentiveness of the staff truly stood out. Highly recommend this hotel!
- 5/5
Customer service was great! Easy check in and check out. Definitely recommend.
- 4/5
Room was very nice and the staff were all helpful and friendly.
- 1/5
Your hotel is disgusting. I am awaiting my refund. Fingers crossed that the management doesn’t pull some slimy refund accounting when refunding my money and deposit. I will warn everyone I meet to stay away from your property….
- 5/5
Very quiet! We love!
- 4/5
The Harlow is a nice place to stay. They have done a nice job in resurrecting an old hotel into something modern and comfortable. Staff were all very friendly and professional. The small cafe was a nice bonus. WiFi was great too. I was in 305 which for a single traveler for one night was perfect.
- 5/5
Nice room and staff.
- 5/5
Great location close to Union Station and Pearl District. Room was cute and clean.
- 5/5
Smooth and efficient
- 3/5
The stay was nice, the room was clean and well kept. The only problem I had was the noise from the street, as the windows are old they didn’t do well to block the noise, there were homeless sleeping/staying/yelling on the bench outside the window of room 310 and bar goers coming and going and yelling outside all night. You could also hear the banging and loud noises in the rooms around you. I understand most of these noise issues come from the age of the building and would recommend ear plugs. I wouldn’t let it deter you, the staff is great and the building and rooms are beautiful. Also there was a towel warmer in the bathroom and that’s just amazing to me.
- 5/5
I would stay again
- 5/5
Nice room with a lot of amenities I liked the bath robe not enough to take my review down but the TV wouldnt turn on but it wasn’t a big deal since I was barely in the room. Liked the little cafe inside too. Thankful that they let me check in 2 hours early free of charge
- 5/5
The place feels a step up from the surrounding neighborhood. The building feels very old, and I mean that in a good way. Everyone was very professional. The room was immaculate. I really liked it.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, very hospitable, clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.
- 5/5
Sucked no parking but my car was fine in the lite parking lot. Other than that it was great stay friendly staff, very comfortable and great location
- 1/5
Stayed Thursday to Sunday. Room was not cleaned any of the days I stayed there. Location was horrible. Homeless on outside steps of building. Cafe on site only had a few cans of soda not as described . Lobby area was empty not as described. Rude front desk staff .
- 5/5
Front desk was amazing, super easy to check in. So glad I picked this place definitely did not dissapoint
- 4/5
Great staff, comfortable clean room.
- 5/5
Everything was great!
- 3/5
As a matter of fact. There were none of the typical room staples one would expect, coffee, tea, microwave, Etc. The windows in the room were filthy. However, the room and all public areas of the hotel were very clean. The staff was courteous. The Cafe was nothing but an underwhelming Bagel/Coffee shop. Then for an odd reason the after-tax rack rate finalized at a slightly higher price than the reservation price. No one was able to explain this or willing to adjust the price. Next time we stay in Portland. we will hopefully find a more agreeable $200 room, in a better location.
- 5/5
Close to everything I can to town to do! Will return!
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean room, very well kept
- 5/5
Great value: low price. Clean room. Surprised to find two bathrobes, a towel warmer, and array of toiletry items in this level of property. Location is a transitional area just a couple blocks from the Pearl proper.
- 4/5
Friendly staff, and a funky Boutique feel
- 5/5
Kind staff, classy digs, and nice to have the cafe right there in the morning
- 4/5
We enjoyed our stay !
- 5/5
All of the stay, staff was great and very helpful. Room was perfect for my needs. Clean, comforting. Loved the building vibes and conveniently located for my travel on the train

The staff was very helpful when I needed information. And the room was spotless.
- 4/5
Nice affordable boutique hotel- staff was great- little cafe was nice for my morning joe.

Top notch service excellent service and rooms
- 5/5
Charming hotel, love the room, would stay here again.
- 5/5
The room was so clean and so quiet! I was really surprised considering we were in a corner unit on a busy street.

Very clean and quaint hotel. Wasn't in my ideal location which is Pearl District but not the nicest part of Pearl but it worked. Rooms are clean, view not the best (a rooftop) and staff was great. Loved the coffee shop next to the lobby.
- 4/5
Old hotel but nice clean room.
- 5/5
Room was nice and met all my standards
- 4/5
Pleasant experience! Just wish there was a microwave and a iron
- 5/5
Room and location was fantastic
- 4/5
Staff was very friendly and room was clean but idk what the hotel is thinking calling the room a “city view”
- 4/5
The location was near lots of dinning and shopping. The decor was cool. The bed I had in my room was not comfortable. Bit, it seemed they were updating things so I guess in other rooms the bed was better.
- 5/5
Hotel was great. Enjoyed my stay.
- 5/5
Nice new clean hotel at a convenient spot in the Pearl. Very walkable to the Moda Center and the Or Conv Ctr
- 4/5
Location was suspect with homeless population nearby and I didn’t feel safe with parking, but I was pleasantly surprised by modern interior and cleanliness. The towel warmer was also a perk! I enjoyed my visit. I’d come back.
- 5/5
A few things to be aware of: 1) You cannot just walk in the front door. You would need to ring a bell and a front desk person needs to be present to unlock it. Once you checked in, you can use your room key to unlock the front door on your own. 2) Password for WiFi isn't stated anywhere. Ask the front desk for the WiFi password. 3) No toothbrush/toothpaste. Bring your own or buy some from a convenience store nearby.
- 2/5
I guess the homeless and locked front door is due to horrible city leadership. But the state of the interior, thats on them.
- 5/5
Great location in Portland within walking distance of Portland Union Station, MAX, and the Portland Streetcar.
- 5/5
Loved the room and the environment.
- 5/5
Historic structure with modern and comfortable interior. Walkable from PDX union station. In artsy Pearl District.
- 2/5
I am 100% sure I have left my sunglasses in the room and I’m sure if they had cleaned the room they would have found it. But I did not get a courtesy call. I didn’t call because I had more important things to deal with than cry about losing my sunglasses that I know I will not get back. I was hoping they call but nothing. It’s not about losing my sunglasses anymore. It’s about ethics and honesty. Oh well it is what it is. Maybe it’s there in the lost and found and I just need to call. We’ll see what happens if I make that call
- 4/5
Great hotel - this district has a lot of homeless stuff right outside. We didn’t have any issues and found incredible restaurants nearby!
- 2/5
Hotel was nice but small. Same could be said about the room. Turns out the hotel only has one staff member working at a time. Due to this it was very hard to find help when needed. At one point I stood in their empty cafe and called the front desk three times for help with no answer. I also noticed people attempting to check in waiting to get buzzed in through the front door with no answer.
- 5/5
Definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Young woman at front desk was great. Very welcoming and helpful. Rooms were very clean, welp decorated and spotless. Definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
Perfect for our needs.

Absolutely terrible!!! I brought my dog with me and the guy assumed he wasn’t a service animal and wouldn’t let me check in. I asked for a refund and the manager told me she wasn’t going to provide me with a refund. Staff was rude as hell. Place wasn’t even worth staying at in the first place. They have to buzz you in because it’s clearly so unsafe outside. Don’t bother staying here.
- 5/5
Great!
- 5/5
I would have liked a hot pot for in room coffee and tea
- 3/5
The hotel’s phone number doesn’t work. Cafe is mostly refrigerated drinks and a few bagels. The checkout time was later than most hotels so that was a plus. Staff was friendly, but hotel needs to adhere to better standards of quality
- 5/5
Clean, quiet and close to Union Station. Room was comfortable and they had a coffee shop/bar too!
- 4/5
Nice hotel ans location on the edge of the Pearl district but lots of street people close by
- 4/5
In the nicer part of town. There were homeless in the park across the street, but not the rough/ drug type. Area very well maintained
- 4/5
Comfortable and near a lot of cool places
- 1/5
We left and didn’t end up staying. The “self parking” is 3 blocks away. There is street parking, but you can only pay for 2 hours at a time. The staff was clueless about the situation and had no options or information to offer us. We decided to suck it up (it was late) and went to the room only to find that it was dirty and it smelled. We left immediately.
- 5/5
Check in/out was fast and easy. Has small cafe and art gallery attached to hotel. (Great for picking up my morning Red Bull.) The room was clean, had a good view and felt comfortable. Only downside, no hotel parking garage, only street parking. Plus side: staff was the absolute greatest at helping us to find appropriate parking! Every employee we encountered as very friendly and helpful.

I booked this hotel for a weekend getaway for a event we attended, read all the reviews and positive posts. Soon as we got to the hotel, the park less then 50 feet is buried with homeless people, you have people yelling, shirts off. Soon as I went to the front desk my gf immediately smelt pee in the lobby, unwelcoming approach. I asked the front desk what's her opinion on where to park because I was not going to leave my friend out front. She said I don't really know you can go looking for parking area garages or you can park out front, frustrated as I was lack of trying to help your guest out. We left to the car to discuss everything, drive around found a security officer out front and asked his advice. His exact words " If you decide to stay at Harlow hotel f not park out front
- 5/5
Amazing staff interactions clean building easily accessible to nearby shopping
- 5/5
This was the most adorable boutique hotel! The rooms were clean and comfy!
- 5/5
🙂
- 4/5
Wrong info about parking, broken window shade with no valence on one window. Neighborhood looks sketchy. I did not want to go for a walk alone.
- 5/5
Cool adaptive reuse of an old building, nice room, and the price was right. It's in old town Portland, know what the area is like before you book, if you're fragile and faint at the sight of a homeless person or panic about needing to find street parking, you have plenty of other options in Portland, but as a person who can handle the mild inconveniences of being in a city, this was a great stay.
- 5/5
Great property
- 4/5
Clean room. Open mic night was nice. It’s in a really great spot with lots going on around. Only issue was that there wasn’t much staff around on site. But they were friendly and nice regardless. Honestly this was a pretty great spot.
- 4/5
Because it was a work trip, I realize that the room was not equipped with a desk. Also, no simple coffee maker. These are two things I would have appreciated. Art events and a 24-hr cafe is super. I didn’t get to use the gym but it was nicely equipped.
- 5/5
Very chill and helpful staff. Service was great.
- 5/5
Nice accommodations near Union Station. Would definitely return.
- 5/5
Check in and check out was easy and quick. The staff at the desk were nice. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I wish there was a refrigerator in the room.
- 5/5
This is a simple but beautiful little hotel!
- 4/5
It's a lovely, older hotel with a lot of character. In the heart of downtown, but our room was right above the street, and it was noisy - definitely bring earplugs!
- 5/5
It was ok. A little run down and the staff was overwhelmed but kind.
- 4/5
Great hotel, not pleasant to walk around outside as the homeless seems to have overcome these neighborhoods by the train station. But the service at Harlow was the BEST!!!
- 5/5
Cons:seeing a stolen car hit 2 people a block away.
- 5/5
Front desk staff was awesome..even lent us a phone charger because we forgot ours at home. Beautiful hotel. Room was very clean and comfortable. Highly recommend and will absolutely stay here again.
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel, felt safe even though the neighborhood is sketchy
- 5/5
What a great hotel and well priced for the quality. The bed was top of the line and the bathroom was A+. Due to security the initial check in was a tiny bit awkward (couldn't find the entrance) but other than that the stay was top shelf. Thanks for a great night and I will look to stay here again when I visit PDX
- 5/5
Overall great experience.
- 5/5
Great style! Comfort and charm! Close to the Union Station within the Pearl District.
- 4/5
Staff are very nice and accommodating, but rooms could be a bit cleaner. Good hotel and room for price.
- 2/5
This is a beautiful hotel, but unfortunately we did not sleep the entire night due to all of the outside noise and thin walls.
- 5/5
Thank you it was great !
- 5/5
Cute hotel.
- 5/5
Great location near the train. Nice facilities. Are great staff.

I’m from Seattle and have visited Portland many times, so I’m no stranger to unhoused communities. However, I don’t think it’s being adequately addressed in the reviews. This hotel is located in an area surrounded by blocks of unhoused individuals. As a woman traveling with my 14-year-old daughter we did not feel safe outside of the hotel. There were several disturbing things happening, just outside the premises, the overall environment made us feel very uneasy. Inside the hotel, there were multiple signs warning guess not to let anyone in, to make sure doors closed securely behind them, and signs outside discouraging loitering in front of the building. The hotel has no designated parking. Street parking required moving your car every two hours and the overnight parking lots had people loitering in them and a few tents. I considered a secured parking garage, but there weren’t any close. These issues significantly impacted our stay and I would not stay here again. I struggled writing this review as I like the hotel and would stay here again if it were in another location.
- 5/5
Location, price, nice renovation
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel very beautiful inside! Only thing is the location is next to a park where a large number of homeless people stay. So can feel a bit in easy trying to walk around by yourself.
- 5/5
This hotel is such a gem. Was warmly received by the staff, the rooms we rented were well appointed and exceedingly clean, and the location is so convenient to exploring Portland. We would absolutely stay again and will definitely do so!
- 5/5
Check-in was quick and easy. The 24/7 cafe area was a great perk! The room was simple but nice and felt on the newer side. Overall clean and not much noise from the hall or other rooms. The only downside is surrounding area doesn’t feel the safest for parking a car in
- 5/5
Cute hotel, bed was comphy. Walking distance to a lot of restaurants/bars. My only complaint is there is no hotel parking. You have to park on the street and pay up until a cetain time. We got luck and got a spot in front of hotel. The backside of the hotel is a small psrk with a lot of homeless so a little sketchy parking your car back there.
- 5/5
The hotel itself was very nice , staff was very very friendly and helpful, the Open Mic night on Friday in the cafe area was the icing on the cake .
- 5/5
Close to union station Amtrak
- 4/5
Staffing was non existent, but our room was nice

-the parking was a pain, lots of homeless around the corner from hotel -when we got to the room all the windows were open it was 88 degrees on the thermostat and 10 giant flies buzzing all over the room -only was able to change rooms after insisting, i definitely understand they were full but they werent even willing to offer a discount or any consolation without pushing for it
- 4/5
Note at the door always appears as though no staff are onsite. After several attempts at using the Ring-type doorbell, someone finally answered. The computer system was apparently down so we were checked in via staff's phone. Hotel is beautiful, clean, and super comfortable. Towel warmer is a nice touch! The a/c thermostat didn’t work whatsoever but thankfully the room stayed cool enough to sleep. Cafe was cute but again, unless you called the hotel by phone, there was no staff in sight despite being there 24 hours. That was weird but the rest was lovely!
- 5/5
Very very much appreciated the amazing customer service they said my room wasnt ready yet and it would be ten minutes but also gave us some tequilla sunrises on the house for the inconvenience very clean rooms food and alcohol options overall this is the place ill be coming back to every time im in portland, our friends got a more expensive hotel but did not provide good services and ours hit every point on my list. 30/30
- 4/5
The young lady was awesome. No internet, TV didn't work, could not buy anything. Shower was slippery. Needs a good scrubbing.
- 5/5
Unique property in the most Portland of Portland neighborhoods.
- 5/5
Wonderful, quirky, edgy ambiance, with a steel beam running along one wall emphasizes its solidity; the Harlow suits me completely. The lobby, the convenient little cafe attached, all designed with immaculate care, at the same time modern and mid-century comfortable style. The location--walking distance to both Old Town, the up-and-coming Pearl District, and the biggest bookstore in the Northwest--Powels--all for a price that will surprise you.
- 5/5
This is a lovely hotel in a reused historic building.
- 4/5
The staff were amazing, especially the staff Saturday and Sunday. It would have been convenient to have a mini fridge in the room and perhaps privacy screens on the windows so that one could open the drapes, but still retain some privacy in the room.
- 4/5
However, the hotel is next to a park with a lot of unhoused people and there's limited street parking, sketchy, didn't feel great leaving the car there. The hotel itself has NO parking. There's only one person working at a time, both for cafe and desk, especially given the sketchy location very questionable. Staff was also not helpful in trying to extend the stay and not knowledge about transportation options. Would not stay again.
- 4/5
Front door was locked and we had to wait outside for someone to come check us in. Nice bedding. Great coffee. Both window shades in our room were broken…so pretty dark in there. Paid parking had to be managed every two hours during the day. All in all, it was an OK experience, but not as nice as I had hoped.
- 5/5
The staff were super friendly. Your stay comes with a free tasting of what they have on tap. Loved the hotel’s unique design. Will defintiely start again!

Great hotel
- 5/5
Nice rooms but there were few amenities in the room, otherwise nice hotel.
- 5/5
I absolutely love this hotel. It's clean, quaint, and beautiful. The staff is so friendly and kind. I loved the cafe, next door and the art gallery and the proximity to both downtown and the bicycling trail along the river. I felt completely safe walking around. Oh, it's also very close to Powell's books, which is a bonus!
- 5/5
The Hotel Harlow GM and her entire staff is so attentive, kind, and professional. I appreciated their personalized approach to all aspects of my stay. The room and property were both immaculate, though located in a noisy and slightly run-down block. Super comfy bedding, great bath and body product, and more than adequate water pressure in the shower. They host fun events and offer cost-effective amenities. A great value, worth the trade-off of not being in a "bougie" area. Will stay here again.
- 5/5
The staff was amazing.
- 4/5
Loved the room and property and Victoria at the desk was great. The only thing is the front door/phone number. I checked in late, and if the desk is attending something that needs fixing (because its a one-person band at night) you're kind of waiting out there at midnight. Not a huge problem, but a little sketch hanging out with bags and stuff. So if there's any way to plug the assistance phone number into a cell the front desk carries with them, it would be great?
- 5/5
It was awesome, there was some random crumbs on the blanket when i got there but besides that it was amazing, excellent service and cafe food options and patient staff. I had great sleep aswell. 5 stars from me ^^
- 4/5
A little close to Old Town with its squatters. There is a ton of police presence, however, and I never felt unsafe nor got bothered wandering about at night.
- 5/5
Location is fantastic! Safer than downtown and better customer service compared to a chain.
- 1/5
The noise outside of our room was unrelenting, even late at night and early in the morning. In addition to the noise outside the hotel, the people staying in the room next to ours were blasting music and talking at four in the morning both nights we stayed at the hotel, and the walls were so thin it was as if they were in the room with us. Our room was also missing basic amenities like cups for water. The bed was not comfortable, and the pillows were also very hard. I rarely write poor reviews, but I wish I had known about the noise in advance, so I could have chosen different accommodations. Hopefully this helps others avoid a vacation of poor sleep.
- 4/5
The rooms were beautiful with high ceilings and bug windows. A very nice bathroom. The check in process was easy the staff were friendly. Only criticism was the lack of coffee in the room. There is a small cafe attached to the hotel where you can purchase coffee but would have preferred it in the room.
- 5/5
Really enjoyed this boutique hotel! Clean and nicely furnished rooms. Great value.
- 4/5
One night of my stay was open mic night at the event space on ground. Very noisy until pretty late. This hotel is an interesting historical rehab. I was told it had been open about 3 years and had last been used at the turn of the 20th century. I like the preservation of the feel of the place although it was located in a somewhat rundown area. Portland’s Pearl Distruct and downtown are very walkable though and I never felt unsafe.
- 4/5
Everything was lovely. The hotel room was really nice. My only issue was the towel warmer in my room didn't work and I was looking forward to that.
- 3/5
My room was on the same side as the bar and was very noisy until late hours of the night. I did appreciate that the outside doors were locked due to tje homeless population wondering around outside.
- 5/5
Metered street parking.
- 5/5
As with most major cities the area has its pockets of homeless but as a solo traveler I used my senses to navigate around and felt safe

The Harlow was nice once you got inside the hotel. The area around the property is sketchy. The hotel doors are all locked for obvious reasons so it was a little tricky getting in initially before I had my hotel key. Once inside, everyone was very friendly. Not sure what the hotel can do to fix this situation.
- 4/5
Clean room next to a park with lots of homeless people.
- 5/5
Excellent for the price. Staff was great
- 5/5
Loved my room and the hotel was super clean. Small boutique hotel in a quiet area (note: the homeless population in Portland is huge and everywhere but while I was there I never felt unsafe/threatened by any of the homeless that wandered around. They keep to themselves. So yes, there may be homeless outside at all hours but this will be true anywhere in Portland). The hotel gives you a keycard for check in that access the front door and your room. There is a cafe that is open 6am to 2am and they made me excellent lattes each morning. Note: the front desk also works the cafe (they are connected inside. You can access the hotel through the cafe at check in). Parking is free 7pm to 8am and City of Portland uses the Parking Kitty app for when you have to pay. Realize this building does not have its own parking lot or structure so you will have to pay between 8am and 7pm just like anywhere else in downtown Portland. There is a space around the corner for 15 minute loading/unloading. I was able to find a spot every night without issue. They have a spacious elevator so you do not have to carry your luggage up their front staircase. Staff is super friendly. Oh and walking distance to various places is super convenient. I was interested in being reasonably close to Powell’s Bookstore and I think it took me around 10-15 minutes to get there (I do walk fast) but there weren’t any steep up or downhills. Everything is relatively flat which is nice, too.
- 5/5
Small, neat rooms. Very friendly staff. Great location.
- 4/5
Problems with blinds were attended to promptly, staff friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Staff made a excellent effort to make sure l was happy
- 5/5
The hotel was very cute. Room was clean, quiet, and very cozy. It is in oldtown Portland so parking was tricky, but overall it was wondeful.
- 5/5
What a beautiful hotel! The staff was lovely and I believe they make sure that their guests are safe. The doors remain locked. What I didn't like was they don't have coffee in the rooms so you have to go downstairs in the morning and spend five bucks! That I felt was unnecessary. But it's a really cool space with lovely staff and for us, we were there to see the school that was directly across the street. It couldn't have been more perfect for us
- 5/5
Amazing service. Great vibes
- 4/5
The one complaint is that there was no one at the desk when we needed to check out. I even called the hotel and no one answered or came when I rang the doorbell even though they said there was someone always on duty.
- 4/5
I liked the historic look of the hotel, and the friendly staff. Our room was very small with a huge luxury ADA bathroom and a "courtyard" view, but the courtyard is not much more than an airshaft. The windows were very dirty and covered with gray shades which could not be opened, which made the room dark and dreary. The night manager said this was because of historic requirements to use only historic curtain makers, which didn't make sense and seemed perhaps untrue. The handle on the bathroom door came off in my hand, and there was no hot water hooked up to the bathroom sink; we had to crawl under the counter and turn it on ourselves. She said it must have been turned off for a repair and not turned back on. Overall it is a nice looking, quiet hotel and we enjoyed our stay, but that is a lot of maintenance issues for one small room.
- 5/5
Great stay for the price. Front desk staff was super nice and helpful.
- 5/5
I am satisfied with my stay. I recommend!
- 4/5
We liked that they supported the artist community.
- 5/5
Needed a last minute hotel, this was one great! Clean, quiet, workers were very nice.
- 5/5
Comfortable and quiet room with two single beds, which was perfect for my teen child and I.
- 3/5
It is a couple of blocks from restaurants and cafes so very convenient but if you're a female traveler, choose somewhere else in my opinion. No microwave, coffee makers or fridge in the room so it's tough if you want to have your own food or re-heat last night's dinner although the girls at the front desk were willing to help me with that.
- 4/5
Super cool architecture...i like the little hang out areas downstairs. One glitch...no one around this AM when i went to leave. I was hoping i could get a coffee for the road...and i had a couple of questions...no big deal. When i did see/ interact with staff they were awesome!
