Reviews
The hotel is praised for its convenient location, friendly and helpful staff, and clean rooms. Guests also appreciate the modern decor and comfortable beds. However, some guests have complained about the lack of parking, the slow shower drain, and the extra fees for amenities like parking and the destination fee.

I really like the underneath, lighting on the bedframe.

The Bidwell is a nicely furnished, clean, well-located hotel with excellent staff. Areas for improvement: the bed mattress was quite soft and/or in need of replacement (or may be perfect for those who like a softer mattress), wi-fi is free but only with Marriott membership (shouldn't wi-fi simply be a standard feature at a higher end hotel, without a loyalty program?), and the shower curtain rod drooped so the curtain kept sliding open resulting in water on the floor. Overall, our group liked the Bidwell and I expect we'll be back.

This is a great boutique Marriott property. Very well located. Clean, nice to have the restaurant/bar on property. I love the M Club rooms access. Sometimes my Bonvoy status doesn’t seem to matter at check in, but be sure to bring it up. Once settled you’ll have a great stay.

Liked that there wasn’t carpet in the room, felt more sanitary. Will say there was a teeth whitening strips case stuck to the counter which made me feel like maybe not thoroughly cleaned and then chair had a screw or something pop out that stabbed my boyfriend in the butt when he sat. Staff was lovely though and great location. Food at the restaurant was surprisingly good as well!

Nice location and very friendly staff.

Beautiful!
- 5/5
Location is nearby shopping areas, Pearl district, food trucks corner, cafes and train stops. But their High Horse restaurant has outstanding breakfast, crew and chef. Thanks to Sofia who took care of six old ladies at breakfast. we didn’t have enough nights to try lunch and dinner, im sure are also good. Great staff from concierge to housekeeping. All were pleasant and gave great suggestions and instructions. Tamara and a nice young lady, at 03/08 in the morning (I didn’t get the name) taught us how to use the train to go to the gardens and airport! added bonus to our trip! Bidwell Marriott Portland is one fine hotel who treats their guests well.

Good location, easy to access, coffee shops super close, and timely free parking access out front
- 5/5
Great value. Close to downtown shopping and the Max light rail. Like that they provide Max tickets and daily credit for the restaurant and bar on site. I thought the breakfast was very good. The Bidwell is our regular place to stay when we visit Portland!

Easy check in Secure floor stops in the elevator Our 2 queen bed room was very spacious and the bathroom was huge. The sliding door with no lock on the bathroom was kinda weird so be aware. Everything was clean. The on-site restaurant had good food, good drinks and good hours for us. Sometomes it's s nice to finish the night inside the building. I didn't pay for a view and definitely didn't get one. Not a concern though. Generally a good location. A few restaurants and bars near by. Good coffee and breakfast close by too. Not sure what valet parking costs. We parked around the corner at Alder Street Garage/ Star Park facility within the same square block as the Bidwell. $30/day. Literally walk out the front door, make 2 rights and the parking garage elevators are tucked in near the furniture store. If you're going to Moda or the Convention Center, save yourself the headache and just Uber/Lyft from the hotel. Parking over there sucks. You could walk there (daylight) but I'd probably catch a ride back (not daylight). I'd definitely stay there again if I wanted to stay in that area. The staff was awesome. Homeless populations nearby vary. 3rd Ave and further east, a bit more visible and a bit weirder. Nothing unsafe that I experienced but maybe a bit different with kids or something.

I was not able to get into a room after my reservation was booked earlier that day and I called to let the hotel know that I would be there after 12:00am and I still was not able to have a place to stay I would like a refund
- 5/5
Clean room, staff was always friendly, and the amenities were really great.
- 5/5
Helpful staff, great room and in the center of town.
- 5/5
If you are staying over a weekend, there are two nearby parking lots available for $5 per day from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and parking is free on the street after 7:00 p.m., which is a great bonus. Overall, an amazing experience, I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.
- 5/5
Everything was great! Will stay here again.
- 5/5
I’ll be back next time I’m in Portland!
- 5/5
Clean room. Very friendly and kind staff at the front counter.
- 5/5
I was very pleased with my stay! The bed was comfortable and the sheets were soft unlike a lot of hotels. The room was extremely clean and the staff were all friendly and welcoming! My personal favorite was how quickly and efficiently the a/c cooled the room temperature as I like to sleep in a cooler room! That was a huge plus for me! Overall, wonderful stay and will be booking again!
- 5/5
LOVE this place! Cozy, stylish, great staff and perfect location
- 5/5
Such a comfortable place to stay! The location is excellent—close to shopping and restaurants, with a Starbucks just a block away. The staff is always so friendly, and I love the filtered water stations and the 12:00 checkout.
- 5/5
The staff was wonderful! The corner room with. city views was spectacular. The area is very walkable.
- 5/5
Check in was awesome. Super helpful front desk!
- 5/5
The location was perfect for us, right near Pioneer Square. The hotel feels new and modern and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and satisfied. This may be our new “go to” hotel when visiting Portland.

- 5/5
Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Central location.

Staff was friendly and room was great. Would stay there again!
- 4/5
The destination/ resort fee was not advertised & was only highlighted upon check in. I am hoping to receive a detailed bill with the daily credit applied in another email as he mentioned. I booked for a King room but the bed seemed like a queen size. The bed is hard & got sunken. Need new pillows. HK staff need to check what supplies need to be replenished when requested. Marriott standard should be upheld at all times!
- 4/5
Loves our stay at the property, the staff was very friendly and understanding and had great recommendations. The only thing we weren’t prepared for was parking , valet was expensive and the street parking was a hustle . Additionally since we were from out of town we weren’t aware of the additional hold they put on your CC which is not incidentals that I think is a Portland thing! But overall lovely property, I would highly recommend, very kid friendly too.
- 4/5
Everyone was very nice. Loved the staff. The shower grout was really dirty with mildew.
- 5/5
The room and staff were great. I appreciated how close the hotel was to Powell's bookstore.
- 5/5
Our room was clean & roomy. Margaret, our bartender in High Horse, and Anna, our server, both remembered our preferred drinks nightly & they were also very friendly & welcoming. I would definitely stay at the Bidwell again!@

The room was clean and comfortable. Not enough common area for lounging. The lobby is small and awkwardly laid out with a support beam right in the middle. I never felt relaxed out side of my room. Probably won't stay here again.
- 5/5
The staff is amazing, the amenities are plentiful. The location is perfect also, would definitely recommend for an amazing experience.
- 5/5
The front reception staff was amazingly helpful! From providing suggestions for coffee, directions for walking around town, and even charging my phone for me when I left my charger at the office. Thank you Bidwell! I hope to be back.
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel, rooms were clean, and the staff are amazing
- 5/5
Just love this boutique property. Staff is great, service, proximity to anything in downtown Portland is easy. The views are great, so if you like that be sure to book the right room. Had b/l/d in the dining room and the food is great. M Club level rooms get you this very cool all hours lounge w/snacks, coffee, sodas, fruit. Love that.

Our stay at The Bidwell was so pleasant we already look forward to going back if we ever revisit Portland again. Derek at the front desk made our stay much more special with his hospitality and kindness. He’s very welcoming and accommodating and we appreciate his and his colleagues’ help throughout the stay! Enjoyed the eco-friendliness evident in the reusable carafe and paper laundry bag in the room.

2 words The Staff!!! I have never experienced a team as attentive or friendly. From check in to my uber leaving each person made sure I had the best possible time at their hotel. 10/10 recommend
- 5/5
Great location! Staff were very professional and super friendly!
- 5/5
Great location, great hotel.
- 5/5
I was dissapointed that parking and resort fees doubled the price of our room rate for the night. Expedia did not list the resort fee in the listing
- 5/5
I had a great stay at the Bidwell Marriott. The staff was super friendly. I stayed at the hotel for my birthday solo trip. I felt well taken care of by the staff.
- 5/5
The staff was so friendly and helpful, we loved everything about this hotel and would stay again. Very easy to get there on the MAX red line from the airport and very central location for a home base while visiting Portland.
- 5/5
The staff were so friendly and all seemed like interesting people! They were helpful and the hotel was attractive, clean and comfortable. It was in a convenient location near the waterfront. I also loved that they have filtered water available on every floor. Would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Every single member of the staff was friendly and helpful. We appreciated the complimentary beer and wine at afternoon check-in. Convenient to restaurants and light rail. Great urban vibe. Loved this hotel!
- 4/5
The room was fine, the staff that greeted us were very nice and welcoming.
- 4/5
The rooms are nice and big. The front desk staff is indifferent and unfriendly.
- 1/5
The room was a double not a king. The front desk person said that was because their system overbooked and there wasn’t nothing they could do. When I politely asked if they could do something to make it better, he said “maybe” they could knock a couple of dollars off the price but he was busy and couldn’t deal with it right now. There was no line at the front desk at the time. I was being polite. I was really surprised by how little he cared even though he admitted they were the ones that made the mistake.
- 5/5
Clean, hip, modern vibe with a great staff
- 3/5
The representative at the front desk was somewhat rude when we checked in. Seemed bothered by having to do his job when we only asked a few basic questions. Not friendly at all.
- 5/5
Derek at the front desk was such a delight. He was not only warm and helpful. I have to admit, when he greeted us it just started my trip out on such a high note. We were able to access our room earlier, which was very helpful. The club lounge was very nice for a quick snack and refreshment. The breakfast buffet was indeed well put together and quite enjoyable with their options - food attendants in the morning breakfast kept everything filled up and very clean. I love having the latte machine making breakfast a must do . We enjoyed the soft & comfy beds, the views of the bridge from our room and the club lounge breakfast. Every employee we interacted with were very pleasant and always helpful. We are planning on coming back in the next few months and will stay here at Bidwell, downtown Portland. Minutes away from everything. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

The vent in the bathroom did not work. And 2 of the hand towels had yellowish tints/stains. The refrigerator did have a temperature setting and did not act as a fridge so much as a freezer and completely froze everything I had (a couple snacks and bottle water). Now, I love a soft mattress. But when I laid on the one in the room, I felt like I was sinking into it like a cartoon character being swallowed up by a mattress. Needless to say, they may want to replace their mattresses. The desk chair was broken, and there were mystery stains on the accent chair and the fabric bench in the room (see photos)
- 5/5
This is one of my favorite hotels; the location is perfect for getting around easy. The hotel staff were the most helpful and accommodating than anywhere I’ve ever stayed. Hotel is quiet with rooms that are extremely comfortable with everything you need. The restaurant is also phenomenal for food and drinks with great service. Can’t say enough!
- 5/5
Derek front desk was able to turn our experience in Portland around. Upgraded us and gave us a recommendation to what to do in Portland. It was fabulous!
- 5/5
Friendliness of staff
- 5/5
We felt so welcomed upon arriving right before midnight. Josh S was the valet that greeted us like we were old friends. Every team member from the time that we arrived till the moment that we left, were warm and personable. The room was nicely appointed and comfortable. The location was perfect for us, easily walkable to eateries and shops. We felt safe in the area during the day and evening. Looking forward to our next visit!
- 5/5
I really like this hotel. The staff is professional and friendly. My room was very comfortable and quiet. Being on a limited expense allowance, I appreciated the $20 per day allotment to use in their mini mart.
- 5/5
Super helpful and caring staff. Truly exceptional service from check-in to check-out. Very clean and comfortable room. Really enjoyed my stay here.

The staff were amazing! They really made my stay. The parking and resort fees were really awful. 63.00 a night for parking, and a 30.00 daily resort fee and added deposit of 75.00 a night was a lot of hidden costs. I won't be staying again unless those policies become more reasonable.
- 5/5
Friendly staff and clean hotel
- 5/5
helpful, friendly staff and clean rooms
- 5/5
The Parking situation was not ideal. But it was in the middle of downtown Portland, so to be expected. We found a close Parking garage that was under 40 bucks for the night. Loved the complimentary drinks while we waited for our room!
- 5/5
Excellent property, amazing staff, great place to stay in downtown Portland.
- 5/5
We checked in around 1AM and the staff member that assisted was friendly and hospitable. Informed us of the basics of the destination fees, and made check-in seamless. When we had questions about amenities, staff was helpful and friendly. Whenever you passed by a staff member they would always greet you, which was very welcoming. The room was also very nice, clean and spacious. Transit was also very accessible to location.
- 3.5/5
The shower grout was not very clean, the bathroom fan did not work, and our door was difficult to open and shut. Also there were some loose vents, and loose fixtures such as the shower knob that came off while trying to turn the shower on.
- 3.5/5
We liked the closeness to Providence Park, and the room was comfy although a bit smaller than we anticipated. The view was nice, and the amenities were great. The shower grout was not very clean, the bathroom fan did not work, and our door was difficult to open and shut. Also there were some loose vents, and loose fixtures such as the shower knob that came off while trying to turn the shower on.

Absolutely a beautiful hotel and I am glad we chose it to stay! Would definitely come back. Kudos
- 5/5
I loved my stay at The Bidwell: the walkable location, the comfortable room, and the complimentary drinks every afternoon. I did encounter a few issues, though: when I checked in, I was disappointed to learn that the hotel no longer offers Japanese Garden tickets as part of the daily destination fee; when I ordered room service for dinner, the food arrived cold; and when I checked out, my bill was slightly higher than I had anticipated. But the incredible staff more than made up for everything. They offered me a public transit pass in lieu of the Japanese Garden tickets, comped both my room service dinner and my breakfast the next morning, and quickly reversed the extra charges on my bill. They went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and well taken care of, every time. I would definitely stay at The Bidwell again!
- 5/5
Derek at the front desk was so incredible! The room was so beautiful and we really enjoyed our 3 night stay here.
- 4.5/5
Clean and comfortable. Nice style The music outside was a little loud first thing in the morning. I felt like our check in was a little rushed and we were fobbed off for some other perhaps reoccurring customers.

Excellent staff and service, appreciated the option to tip cashless via Shiny!
- 3/5
Convenient location. Friendly staff. We appreciated having water station on our floor (assuming it's also on every floor). Breakfast burrito at High Horse (hotel restaurant) was pretty decent. Our main complaints were the uncomfortable pillows and mattress. Our bodies were sore both mornings after sleeping. Also, the shower sliding door does not seem to work perfectly as we notice water on the bathroom floor after we shower.
- 4/5
It was good except for 2 things. They didn't refill the shower gel, so I ran out during my shower. One would think that would be one of the things housekeeping should have as a standard check, so quite disappointing. Second, I was not offered a vip upgrade despite it being a vip hotel and me being an expedia gold member, so I was placed in a room on a low floor right across the hall from a very noisy ice machine. Other than that it was ok.

Great service and beatiful clean hotel. There are several charges that were not made clear before booking. Parking is not included in the lrice and is $63 a night for valet or you can find a pay to park garage near by to park there. There is also a daily fee of $30 they charge after you check out. Other than that is was a great stay and was very pretty and great location.

I will start by saying I DID NOT get the room I paid for and reserved through Expedia. And when this was brought to attention at check-in, I was told there were no more rooms available, the hotel did not offer the room that was listed on the Expedia website, and that the prices were similar. I booked a suite and received a corner room, which I was continuously told was a popular room. Due to the nature of the trip, I was wanting the suite for the separation capability. No efforts were made to correct this error, I was told to check back during my stay for availability (I should not have to do their job for them) and there were no offers of compensation for the error. If you want the corner room, it is nice, a great size, but again, not what I paid for.
- 5/5
Beautiful property with a very helpful staff. We had a corner Club Room with a King Bed and a view of the City; we loved it!
- 5/5
The front desk was very helpful with suggestions of where to eat and directions using public transportation. We were intending to visit the Japanese Gardens anyway, so it was a pleasant surprise that the Bidwell could make a reservation and provide tickets. It was conveniently located.

- 4/5
Nice hotel - the bathroom door was a barn door and left a gap; my teenagers were uncomfortable using it.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly, helpful, easy to work with; food in restaurant was healthy and innovative; our room was clean, no complaints.
- 5/5
fantastic property. good staff. lounge is top notch. wifi is a little slow and tmobile doesn't work super well. everything else is solid.
- 5/5
This is a great boutique style hotel. Staff very attentive, nice to have a restaurant on site and suggest getting a room with M Club access for quick and easy snacks, drinks, breakfast. Especially for a longer stay. Great location downtown and easy access to train to airport.
- 5/5
Staff and hotel were both fantastic. Portland is a dirty unsafe city but it was kept clean around the hotel grounds.
- 5/5
The hotel is nice. This is the second time we have stayed here. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the area around the hotel has many dining and shopping options. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. I will likely return.
- 5/5
Friendly staff and quiet property. Local bars, restaurants, stores, and local activities near by that are walkable. On site restaurant was expensive but my VIP status made up for it with the daily $30 allowance for food, 2 free drinks from the store, free bike rentals, and free tickets to the Japanese Rose Garden. Such a delightful and refreshing trip. Will be back!
- 4/5
Absolutely no ventilation in the rooms . Like not even a window to crack. But other than that. Super friendly staff that do prioritize your safety. But remember it’s downtown which means downtown crawlers outside that you can see as your “view”
- 5/5
Loved my stay
- 3/5
Front desk staff could be more hospitable. No lobby bathroom, however, when you get to the bathroom, it’s locked and there are no instructions on how to get in. Bathroom door is a sliding door that does not shut all the way. The ironing board in our room was bent and very difficult to use. I did like that. They provided glass bottles for water.
- 5/5
We loved it!
- 5/5
It was a great stay. No complaints. Thank you!
- 5/5
Excellent staff! They were friendly, helpful, and go the extra mile to make sure your stay is a good experience. Room is spacious, clean, quite, and comfortable bed. Will definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
The staff were great. Great location. Will stay there again
- 5/5
Friendly staff and the room was nice
- 5/5
I like this property and have stayed before. The check in is a bit iffy depending upon the staff checking you in. Bonvoy status usuall gets you something, but it’s not welcomed, but something to ask for. That’s a bit odd. The M Class rooms are great with the Club to step into at anytime for a refreshment or bit of snack, breakfast. Location is great in the heart of Portland. Rooms are very clean, fresh, contemporary.
- 4/5

This is a very nice hotel! It’s very clean and they have great food. I’ll always choose this hotel.
- 3/5
Check in was not super friendly, I had prepaid and still had $300 taken off my card but no explanation of why or what the charges were for when I asked (found out from my invoice it was city charges etc). Room is a decent size and modern however shower grout was very moldy and issues with brown water in taps (hotel maintenance were trying to address it and gave a letter to guest notifying of it)…..shower is also a weird design you have to step in and out around the toilet! Housekeeping came on the first day and then never saw them again, had to chase up fresh towels, replacement tea & coffee etc. Also disappointing was the restaurant, I had daily credits to use and attempted to however 3 of the 4 days I went for breakfast there was at least a 20-30 minute wait to get a table, there were clearly free tables but staff just kept walking past the crowd in the restaurant lobby waiting to be seated, with no information or interaction…..not sure if they were short staffed?? I ended up having breakfast at other local cafes so at least they got some business out of it. Hotel is in a good location downtown close to transport and Portland activities. Overall for what I paid I expected much better so probably would not stay there again.

The staff was really helpful, I wish the room maids spoke any English, I just needed a towel and she had not a clue, but hard working,

It was in a good location for my business trip. But it is a loud hotel. You can hear the bar noise from upstairs. My room neighbors were also partying. Very young vibe and crowd. I had my fun but also wanted to turn in early. The manager said the hotel is set up for the younger crowd. What?? I also had some VIP credits but no one told me about them until after I paid $100 for dinner.

When choosing a place to stay overnight, a Marriott is one of my favorites. The check in process is super easy, parking is easy with lots of options, and you can’t beat the location. The beds are adequate, bathrooms are always nice. All of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I would absolutely recommend The Bidwell to anyone staying in Portland.

We’ve stayed at numerous properties in the Portland area and this is by far the best! Clean, quiet. Fantastic workout room! And Levi at the front desk was the nicest person we’ve ever dealt with at a hotel check-in. He went above and beyond to make our stay extra special. DEFINITELY will be back.

Not enough staff in dinning area. Too long of wait for many people.

We were unable to use the $30 destination fee because staff at check-in told us one thing and at check-out we were told that wasn't how we could use it. Great room, great walkability to Providence Park.

Perfect for our visit.

The vibes are decor were excellent, as were the amenities. The only negative for us was that the bar was closed for repair. Great room and great location - we will be back.
