Reviews
The Royal Sonesta Hotel in Portland is generally praised for its beautiful, unique, and artistic decor, as well as its friendly and helpful staff. However, guests frequently express dissatisfaction with hidden fees, such as resort and parking fees, and the condition of some rooms, including broken fixtures and lack of cleanliness. The surrounding area is also a common concern, with some guests feeling unsafe due to the presence of homelessness and drug use.

Beautiful, quirky, clean and super friendly staff! Definitely coming back!

We think the Royal Sonesta is the best downtown Portland hotel. The price is competitive, the location is perfect and the staff is personable and professional. We have reservations for later this summer.

We always stay here when we come to Portland. There are a lot of hotels to choose from in downtown Portland but this one in my opinion is one of the best. It’s right in the middle of everything. There are so many activities within just a 10 minute walk. The staff is always so incredibly kind. We can’t wait to be back in a couple of months. Thanks guys! 😊

Amazing room, terrific staff, breakfast every morning. Couldn’t ask for more!

Central location, clean in lobby and rooms. Valet, front desk and restaurant staff friendly and efficient. Absolutely love the colorful, unique, creative decor. Can't wait to go back!
- 4/5
The hotel is nice. The room great. Would have liked if the restaurant was open on Monday. The location was lacking in options for dinner, etc but that’s no fault to the hotel.

Could have more selection in breakfast aerea

Staff was eager to help and friendly, especially Austin. Great location and spacious rooms. Nothing comes to mind.

Outstanding stay. One of the best in PDX.
- 5/5
Great location and amenities.
- 5/5
Absolutely clean room with no issues at all! Absolutely pleased with the staff and the valet service. Enjoyed the warm inviting feeling when you arrive and every time you walk through the doors. Felt safe and comfortable. Unfortunately we did not get to enjoy the breakfast but we heard from others staying there that it was definitely worth trying. We definitely will be staying there again. See yall soon!
- 4/5
Breakfast was good and convenient. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable. We did not park in the valet area but walked a few blocks down the street to a public lot. We had snacks & drinks in the bar late one night and they were also very good.
- 4.5/5
we arrived before checkin and the staff was very forthcoming and allowed us to get our room early.

I absolutely loved this hotel. The front desk staff was always so helpful and lovely. It is in a fantastic location, walkable to everything downtown. And the rooms are immaculate. Beautifully decorated and huge! Zero complaints. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in.
- 5/5
Phenomenal staff, great atmosphere, great location, and a very cozy lounge area with fire place. Everyone will go above and beyond to help you find the best places to visit around the area as well.

We loved this wonderful hotel. Very welcoming.
- 4.5/5
Staff was great, location was great, room was clean and bed was comfortable. Staff was very helpful when we came early, they kept our luggage until we were able to check in. The parking valet is located next to the hotel and we felt our vehicle was safe and easy to access. You have to request a coffee maker and refrigerator for your room. Our coffee maker did not work and it was tough to find a cup of coffee first thing in the morning. The staff offered to come into our room to fix the coffee maker at 6am, but I sleep in and my husband gets up early for coffee, so that did not work for us. The restaurant doesn't open until 7am and breakfast was not great, just adequate.

This hotel was amazing! I will stay here any time I got to Portland! It was in such a walkable location, everywhere you need to go you can easily get to! Such a beautiful, quirky, hotel with wonderful staff! Perfect hotel experience!

Large, clean room. Front desk staff helpful. Valet helpful and very prompt.

The mcm furniture, especially in our suite was so beautiful and unique. The bath tub was HUGE and could fit two people. The bedding/mattress/pillows made it so I had the best sleep that I’d had in a long time. There were two bathrooms in our suite which made getting ready for the concert very easy. Also we loved the coffee down in the lobby every morning, pet policy, and lastly, the valet staff was very accommodating and friendly! There isn’t room service, and also if you order door dash you have to walk all the way down to the lobby to get your food, which was pretty far if you are on the top floor and far from the elevator. There are no smart tv capabilities so I had to purchase a Roku to bypass the (extremely expensive) ancient music streaming app that only lets you choose the genre and not even what artist or song you listen to. There was a short period of time when we got back from the expo center at 2 am and the shower didn’t have any hot water. You could hire maybe more personable night staff…or maybe do some hospitality training on the ones you have. Also maybe a flat rate for valet if you’re staying multiple nights- when you’re paying multiple days (the whole weekend) you are paying for 3 days! Astronomical!! Also maybe upgrading the usb plug-ins or having maybe an alarm clock/speaker with music capabilities that has an adapter with usb-c would be nice!

Friendly staff, comfy and well appointed rooms that have modern amenities.

The room was fantastic. I was looking for something funky, and it was exactly that. The bed was incredible — I haven’t slept through an entire night in about 15 years, and during my stay, I didn’t wake up once. Each night before falling asleep, I binged the Food Network, which was such a treat since I don’t have cable at home. It became something I genuinely looked forward to at the end of the day. Even the shampoo and conditioner smelled amazing. I’ve honestly disliked the toiletries in almost every other hotel I’ve stayed at, so that really stood out to me. Unfortunately, the restaurant experience was disappointing. Breakfast was wonderful, but dinner was another story. I dined there twice during my stay, and there appeared to be only one server who was clearly overwhelmed. Service was slow, it was difficult to get his attention, and during my second visit I never received water. My meal also came out burnt after about a 45-minute wait. At that point, I didn’t want to send it back, so I took it to my room and picked around the burnt parts. If I stay at the hotel again, I’m sorry to say I likely wouldn’t return to the restaurant. I also initially paid for my stay through Booking.com, but was accidentally charged a second time by the hotel. While it took a bit of time to sort out, the hotel did process the refund promptly once the issue was identified.
- 5/5
great hotel, neat renovation to a department store, funky decor, super high ceilings, comfy beds, great stay
- 5/5
Staff was friendly. I was able to check in early, which was very helpful for me. Valet service was easy and it was very convenient - I could text when I was ready to leave and my car was waiting by the time I got down to the lot. The breakfast was fine. I didn't hang out in the lobby, but there was a great vibe and I could see doing so if I had been in Portland for fun instead of work.
- 5/5
Room was perfect!
- 5/5
Very nice staff! Cute and unique rooms.
- 5/5
We loved everything
- 5/5
We stayed at the Royal Sonesta two different times one coming into Portland and one leaving Portland both times were excellent. The staff was super superior. They gave us tremendous recommendations. They treated us like royalty. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The parking is fantastic and easy when you do it at the Royal Sonesta would highly recommend this hotel if staying in Portland.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, easy check out. Liked the onsite parking option.
- 5/5
The room was very clean and the aesthetic was charming!
- 4/5
This is a very nice, classy yet funky boutique hotel in the downtown area. Our room was very big with a large sitting area. The price was very reasonable. The parking is a bit expensive but I’m sure it’s about the same at most of the downtown hotels. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, great location.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay and would return again. Staff provided excellent service and the hotel is walkable to great downtown restaurants and shops. The rooms are spacious and well appointed.
- 1/5
Cockroach in room upon checkin
- 5/5
Excellent location in downtown Portland and luxurious
- 5/5
I loved the decor and the lobby area. I also liked the daily credit for breakfast or something else. I wish there had been a coffee maker in the room instead of having to schlepp down to the restaurant half asleep to get my coffee fix but they do give you the option of requesting a coffee maker in your room. The staff were super helpful and friendly. Location was super convenient. Some nice bars, restaurants and food trucks nearby.
- 5/5
Absolutely loved the stay in the King Suite. Such a unique property, with excellent service and comfy beds.
- 5/5
Parking is a bit awkward, but the hotel was Fabulous and the staff was lovely and attentive
- 5/5
Love the decor in room and lobby. The front desk staff were wonderful.
- 5/5
Charming place to stay with a very regal lobby good for remote work!
- 3/5
It was probably nice at one point, but it needs a bit of a face lift, and the amenities and food offerings were slim.
- 5/5
This is our new favorite spot downtown!
- 5/5
Great team at this hotel! Nice large rooms and cool design.
- 5/5
Staff was so very friendly & rates were really good!
- 5/5
This is the second time we've stayed here...for a reason. Not only is it one of the most quirky, yet somehow elegant and refined, properties we've ever been in, but the staff are super friendly and helpful, they have a system dialed in that doesn't seem to skip a beat. I do wish there were coffeemakers in the rooms (you can get one by request) as I'm a frazzled useless lump of dump before my caffeine fix and wouldn't want to have to subject myself to any humanoids before it, but, well, luckily I have a wife who's a morning person and was happy to hop and skip her way to the coffee-station for me. The property itself is gorgeous, the rooms are very unique and comfortable, and the location can't really be beat for a downtown spot to stay. We will be back...
- 5/5
Staff was so nice and helpful. Super walkable location and quirky fabulous decor. Love it!
- 5/5
Great room and staff was very friendly. Valet available. Parking was annoying to deal with but thankfully not a nightmare.
- 4/5
Excellent hotel in we had a lovely stay. I would have given it five stars, but i'm on a rival. There was a destination fee that I was not made aware of when I booked with expedia. That may be expedia's fault, i am tired of getting somewhere. And there's a fee that I did not anticipate.
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel very clean, amazing location. The only thing I can complain about is the breakfast with very minimal. Barely anything to choose from. And the male breakfast host, was not on top of cleaning the tables off and not friendly at all. Will stay there again but probably won't do breakfast there.
- 4/5
Had a great stay!
- 4/5
Downsides: 1) the shower faucet handle was broken and there was some back and forth to getting it fixed. 2) the breakfast was pretty limited and unimpressive for $15 a plate. 3) the location was maybe a bit rougher than some of the equivalent hotels we looked at. Overall, Staff was very responsive and kind and we liked our room. However as a matter of personal preference, we likely wouldn’t stay here again, opting for a stay with better onsite dining and a more convenient location, but we definitely enjoyed our stay for what it was!
- 5/5
Breakfast can be a bid better. For $15 a person, there several places in the vicinity that give you more bang fornyoue buck.
- 5/5
My new favorite in Downtown Portland
- 5/5
Wonderful stay. So clean, very friendly, unique decor. We reserved a parking spot in a garage nearly right next door for $6 overnight. Had to leave before breakfast, but it smelled great.
- 4/5
Food not available late and bar closed at 9
- 5/5
This is a great hotel!
- 4/5
Everything was really wonderful. The decor was great, the staff was helpful, and the location is very convenient. The only issues we had was that there is no refrigerator in our room (we were traveling and needed somewhere to put some of our perishable snacks) and the bed was not very comfortable. It was quite firm.
- 5/5
Nice beautiful room - comfortable bed - and easy to get around Downtown Portland. The breakfast was not much to write about so will skip the discussion. I even hung out on the lounge sitting area - it was very inviting and lots of nice little niche sitting areas. The hotel is dog friendly and it was nice to see the four legged pups greeting other guests if you wanted to have some dog time. I will go back.
- 5/5
I love this hotel! I love the location and most of all, I love the staff, everyone is kind, helpful and professional. I recommend the Royal Sonesta to everyone I know traveling to Portland. See you soon and thank you all
- 5/5
What a great funky hotel! Staff was great, very helpful at all levels. We had dinner and it was fantastic. Short stay but I'll be back
- 5/5
Thick walls can’t here hardly anything outside the door
- 5/5
Loved it
- 4/5
Solid place to stay. Close to public transport and lots of things to do and shopping nearby. Vallet parking quite expensive. Definitely do not upgrade your room if they offer, it wasn’t worth the extra $10 a night they quoted me when I arrived to check in. They said I’d get a king size bed on the top floor and that bed was definitely a queen, which is what I had originally booked anyway. Most of the staff were nice and helpful. Breakfast was pretty good. Room service was odd hours, they didn’t bring food up after 3 pm which I think was strange hours. Overall, a fine place to stay.
- 5/5
Beautiful older boutique hotel. Nice staff, great location.
- 5/5
The hotel is great. Friendly staffs, convince location, and spacious room( I stayed in king bed suite). The washroom faucet does need some repairs otherwise everything was wonderful. The breakfast is $15 buffet but it’s the spending credit included in the destination charges.
- 5/5
Great location, friendly staff, and luxurious.
- 2/5
Breakfast was not worth the fee, staff is rude and nosey and parking ridiculous
- 5/5
Outstanding staff!
- 5/5
Delightful stay with thoughtful amenities and a great location.
- 5/5
Only thing that would make it even more accommodating would be to have a little mini fridge in the room.
- 5/5
The staff was awesome. Friendly and helpful. The only negative comment is the breakfast. Very limited selection though the food was OK. Come on guys, you could at least add a toaster with some bread that is not a pastry. It was cheap though ($15)… for hotel standards. Even with that issue, I still give the place a 12 on a scale of 10.
- 3/5
Breakfast was a bit gross. The valet was under staffed and therefore took longer then expected to get vehicle. There is only Valet!! If you leave before 6:00 there is no valet and no one mentioned that. Friday night is seems that a bunch of frat boys decided to rent rooms and made it quite uncomfortable leaving the hotel!! There’s a daily charge of $30, which I didn’t really find useful. The cleaning staff doesn’t put trash bags in the trash cans; which was really annoying. They only offer cleaning upon request.
- 3/5
Increase options by adding a toaster and bagel station. Increase protein options, have a yogurt station.
- 5/5
We had a great stay at this place. The rooms were spacious and had a funky decor. However, I was disappointed that there was no coffee maker in the room.
- 4/5
Great location and easy parking and access.
- 5/5
Very clean room. Nicely appointed. Unique historic property.
- 5/5
The rooms are very spacious and well furnished excellent stay for the price

Amazing hotel
- 4/5
Very clean room. Walkable to so much.
- 5/5
Everything was really good, a couple of details that was taken care of immediately, nice friendly staff, great service, looking forward to stay next time I go to Portland
- 3/5
There are a lot of older, historic-feeling hotels in downtown Portland and this one is pretty mid. The room I had was large but outdated in a non-charming way. The breakfast option was nice, but not complimentary.
- 4/5
welcoming and helpful staff, great location for walking in downtown area and to restaurants
- 2/5
We love this hotel, but the noise from the rooms has gotten really bad. Lots of street noise and homeless people yelling all night long. The parking is also so expensive. We have stayed here many times, but the noise and the parking might make us look across the river for our next visit.
- 5/5
Just a really lovely stay. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, everyone was helpful, friendly, and professional. We felt welcome, and it's easy to tell everyone cares about the property -- it's in beautiful condition. It's clearly an older property, but the room we were in and the public spaces are well cared for and clean. Definitely a place I would stay again!
- 5/5
Friendly staff clean rooms, nice breakfast
- 5/5
Rooms were big and very clean. Staff was very friendly. Love the decor as it wasn't a typical hotel room vibe. Will definitely stay again if in the area!
- 3/5
The property is quite dated, but clean and comfortable. The televisions do not have access to anything but TV channels and pay-per-view movies (no Netflix, Prime, YouTube, etc.) and no means to connect personal devices to TVs. Breakfast is extremely basic - just scrambled eggs, bacon, and potatoes - and not worth the $15 per person charged.
- 5/5
The only recommendation I would make is to have coffeemakers in the room, even though it is complementary downstairs. Overall, RS is a perfect hotel for your time in downtown Portland.
- 5/5
2nd time at this hotel and I love it for husband myself and our dog. Great location super cute rooms
- 5/5
Yes.
- 5/5
Definitely recommend 100%!
- 5/5
Room was great, clean, and staff is always accommodating. We exclusively stay at this hotel when we go to Portland. It’s near everything
- 1/5
i couldnt stay because i wasnt aware the hotel was 21+ and im not sure how to get refunded
- 5/5
The room was comfortable and spacious. A beautiful mix of classic architecture and modern comfort. On arrival we were offered an upgrade to a top floor suite which had an incredible view of the city.
- 5/5
Great staff! Beautiful facility!
- 5/5
Clean room, very sweet and helpful staff, room was great very original in decor, nice and quiet soace, really walkable lots to see do eat around the hotel
- 5/5
We love this hotel. Very pleasant staff nd walkable to our favorite spots.

- 5/5
I would stay again.
- 5/5
Staff courteous.
- 5/5
Clean, friendly staff, good location
- 5/5
Check in was wonderful and the room was amazing!
- 5/5
Room was clean, I was somehow upgraded which was very nice. The hotel felt very secure at night with the security and card system they have in place. And the decor was TOP NOTCH! Talk about a cool place to want to say, everything was given a fun artistic flair, and the staff were always friendly and chirpy :)
- 5/5
Everything was great!
- 5/5
The rooms are so beautifully and uniquely decorated here. The staff was very accommodating and friendly and the live music in the foyer was the perfect finishing touch!
- 5/5
.
- 3/5
The smell of the room is bad and the carpet of the 4th floor have special black and white which makes me feel dizzy.
- 5/5
The room was fantastic. Food was being excellent. Also all the staff were great and friendly. My wife and I had a great time and will be back.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly from garage attendans to front desk. Room was super large, clean, and comfortable - had a great night sleep! Coffee Maker on request and had a solid bar downstairs for a drink before or after dinner.
- 5/5
Great Location, Clean, Affordable Rooms
- 5/5
Unlike 90% of hotels, there is nothing cookie cutter about the Royal Sonesta. Friendly staff and over the top elegance more than make up for any short comings.
- 5/5
Such a great value for your money! Rooms are clean, nicely decorated, and the front desk staff is very professional and kind. The location is perfect for a downtown weekend, and if you’re not used to city noise then bring a sound machine. We didn’t mind at all since that’s the price you pay for a killer downtown location. It feels safe and family friendly without feeling chaotic and close to all public transport. Thank ya’ll so much, we’ll be back for another get away soon! We stay in a lot of little hotels for weekend getaways and this one will stay in our top 5 because of the service, price, and location!

Friendly staff. Great room.
- 5/5
My suite was absolutely beautiful. I love the interior design stylings of the entire establishment. Thank you for a luxurious and relaxing stay!
- 5/5
Clean room and all of what you expect from a top rated hotel. But what stands out is that it is so Portland. What I loved was the person that checked me in. I forgot to ask her name, but she is one of the most pleasant people I have come across.
- 5/5
This location was such a fun spot! The decor and setup was amazing. We loved all the quirky details. The one downfall to our entire stay was the shower head. It definitely needs an upgrade, it had randomly streams and noises.

They said they would email receipt and take the hold off the deposit and never did. I don’t recommended anyone staying here unless you dont mind getting ripped off

Breakfast food could have fresh green salad
- 5/5
Friendly staff, nice room, amenities were great. The decorations in the lobby for the holidays were beautiful. Overall excellent experience.

The hotel is in a beautiful building, and is nicely furnished.

Helpful and courteous staff and the room decor was lovely.
- 5/5
Clean hotel, beautiful decor, and luxurious amenities.
- 3/5
The hotel was nice, but we had no hot water in our room.
- 5/5
Elegant space in great condition. Staff was very friendly. Good location close to lots of restaurants and shops.
- 5/5
Great location downtown, super walkable. Staff was friendly, room is well appointed and a great value.
- 5/5
Thank you.
- 5/5
Beautiful large room, classy.
- 5/5
The breakfast buffet looked like it all came from Costco. The service was excellent.
- 5/5
Breakfast was good, eggs, sausage, sweet muffins, small sweet roll, 2 kinds of cereal, fresh fruit salad, OJ, ice water, coffee and hot water for tea. No toast/bagels available. I took off a star for "comfort" as the hot water for tea was made in the same machine as the coffee and had that oily coffee taste that is very bitter and ruined the herbal tea bag I brought from home. This is a common problem in most hotels and even some restaurants. Unless you are an herbal tea drinker you might not taste the difference. I am someone who cannot drink caffeine even in caffeinated teas. The best tasting hot water comes out of a designated hot water pot. Please buy one or 2 for the kitchen. The taste of good coffee could also be ruined by the old rancid oils in coffee machines. Something to consider as well. Thank you.
- 5/5
The staff was very welcoming and provided me with information about my stay that I had not known about. They were always ready to answer questions or attend to any questions or concerns I may have. The hotel itself is beautiful and has an ambient lobby which I spent a great portion just sitting down and reading. The restaurant being attached to the hotel was very convenient and the breakfast was great.
- 5/5
Great large room with good amenities!
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
The king suite was very nice. Loved the bathroom decoration and overall the room and hotel was very pleasant and dated in a modernized way. Staff were very polite as well.
- 4/5
This review is more of a 3.5. The staff was really nice and accommodating! I also appreciated the room upgrade, and loved the decor and cozy lobby area, where I often warmed myself by the fire. I did find a chocolate wrapper on the floor near the desk of my room, which made me wonder if the place had been vacuumed prior to my arrival. I also felt the room had a permanent odor/stuffiness to it that wouldn't leave unless the A/C was going, and the bedding wasn't thick enough for that. Overall, I had a good stay and appreciated the $15/day credit. One of the days, the breakfast wasn't available until 7:30 - which is fine, but I would just communicate this ahead of time to guests via a sign near the elevator or something, as a few of us were waiting and wondering when to come back.
- 5/5
Amazing interior design! Polite staff, comfy bed, no complaints!!!
- 5/5
The room was very clean and surprisingly large. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We did not have breakfast as we had to leave prior to their opening. The parking was nice. The valet was very helpful. As due to its location in Portland, the ease of parking in the security provided was excellent. Again, do the fact that we had to leave so early we are unable to eat dinner at the restaurant. The menu looked very nice with a large variety of Pacific Northwest options. There are several very excellent restaurants within walking distance. I would highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Portland for several days or just short term. An excellent downtown location, my wife and I’ll definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
Great service!
- 5/5
Everything was great. I love that wallpaper in the bathroom. I’d really like to know where I can get some of my own

Great boutique hotel. Excellent parking downstairs. Unfortunately in a sketchy part of downtown. Hopefully this will improve over time.

- 5/5
Wonderful staff and ambiance!
- 5/5
The room was spacious, the decor was absolutely fun! Courteous staff.
- 1/5
I loved the eclectic, swanky decor of the suite — it was charming — but sadly the vibe did not match the appearance.
- 5/5
Great customer service and very clean and spacious room
- 5/5
We had a great stay at Royal Sonesta in downtown Portland! The hotel is clean cute and has lots of charm. Great location and walking distance to a lot of things. We will definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
The suite was really pretty, bed very comfortable and the shower was great. The only thing I’d suggest is the hotel needs to upgrade the tvs in the room to smart tvs .
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel! We had a lovely stay.
- 5/5
Best place to stay in downtown Portland
- 4/5
Excellent staff service.
- 5/5
We loved the hotel, very quirky and cool! We got an upgrade too and the room was enormous. Would definitely stay here again if I was in Portland.
- 4/5
I'd stay here again, but would adjust accordingly based on the above information.
- 5/5

- 5/5

- 5/5
Loved the decor and comfortable bed.
- 5/5
I don’t do essay questions
- 5/5
Truly, I’ve never stayed at a better hotel, from the unique room design and cleanliness to the area around the hotel. Staff was friendly rooms were comfortable and parking service was great! 10/10
- 5/5
Great staff!
- 5/5
Super cute, awesome staff
- 5/5
Staff was amazing and helpful, I was happy with my stay
- 5/5
Great location. The suite was spacious and comfortable. Great value !
- 5/5
Will be back for sure Very cool hotel
- 4/5
A bit pricey but I guess that's the going rate.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and assisted me with questions.
- 5/5
Amazing hotel!
- 5/5
Fantastic! Spacious, comfy, clean and awesome decor!
- 5/5
Really fun place to stay. Walkable to all kinds of different neighborhoods and shopping. Very comfortable!!
- 5/5
Also needed maintenance in the room for a very small issue. The person was sent up immediately, was super-friendly, and fixed the issue right away. Even the staff at valet parking was wonderful and friendly. I love the people at this hotel and am really looking forward to returning.
- 5/5
It’s a hotel, did its job. Nothing special about the place.
- 5/5
Clean room. Friendly, helpful staff
- 5/5
Good location. Walkable. Easy access to public transportation.
- 5/5
Clean room
- 5/5
The property was conveinient for everything we wanted to do in Portland!
- 5/5
Finch restaurant was fabulous. I had ahi tuna. The staff is excellent too. My corner room was even more than I expected. Overall one of the top hotels I have stayed in.
- 4/5
The gym was very well equipped. The area was very commercial with limited options nearby.
- 5/5
Beautiful older hotel. No pool, but the rooms are spacious, luxurious and comfortable. The only thing that I recommend are to install safety rails in the shower, otherwise excellent!
- 5/5
The sofa would benefit from cushions and i'd rwather see a desk than a table and 2 small armchairs in the sitting room but that's just me. The king bed was very comfy and the decor is whimsical in a tasteful way. I highly recommend.
- 4/5
Parking attendant Sunday morning was great
- 5/5
Beautiful room and wonderful staff. I really enjoyed my stay !!!
- 5/5
Stunning and Kitchi room. Really played up the Royal theme. Luxury linen, mattress and bath products were quite the indulgence. It is in a great location downtown with easy accessibility to any number of food and entertainment options. The Staff at this hotel were kind, energetic and incredibly thoughtful. I would not recommend the in house breakfast option, but with so many other local favorites around it is not a deterent.
- 5/5
Great front desk service. Easy check in and check out.
- 5/5
Love this hotel. The decor is quite funky lovely! The staff helpful and friendly. Portland is full of great food, books and vinyl!! My kinda place.
- 5/5
This is definitely the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at. I love the style of the lobby and rooms. Every staff member we spoke with was very nice and helpful. I didn’t get to spend as much time in Portland as I originally planned due to car trouble so I know exactly where I am staying when I come back to explore the area more!
- 4/5
Cleanness
- 5/5
Staff is on point!!!!
- 5/5
Amazing service and the whole property is so comfortable.
- 5/5
Atmosphere
- 5/5
Beautiful room
- 5/5
Stayed over for an anniversary celebration. Attentive staff in every area (valet, front desk, restaurant, breakfast). Eclectic, loud, and fun decor throughout. My partner enjoyed using the piano in the large lobby/lounge. The grand suite was very comfortable and spacious. The only minor downside is that some of the furnishings and wall paper could use maintenance/updating. However, I would stay again or recommend. We are local.
- 5/5
I loved the maximalist decor, but parking was insanely priced. Guests staying at the hotel should have free parking available during their stay.
- 3/5
Bed had springs, caved in the middle and was extremely uncomfortable, alas, we survived; but based on that and a funny smell out of the vents at night which gave me a headache, I wouldn't book again. Valet/parking instructions would've been appreciated prior to arrival. Staff was friendly though, especially the valet team, superb crew!
- 5/5
Laundry
- 4/5
The room was very spacious and I enjoyed the unique decor.
- 5/5
The beautiful historic features of the building like leaded glass doors were balanced with very eclectic and funky decor inside the lobby and rooms. The staff was vey helpful and welcoming. The location is wonderfully walkable, from trains only two blocks away to amazing food and shopping.
- 5/5
The rooms are very quiet which is nice in a hotel that is right downtown.
- 5/5
Really cool hotel! Nice staff, comfortable bed, convenient location. Parking is expensive but easy, breakfast buffet is OK and there are no refrigerators in the room. Overall we really liked the place and would stay again.
- 5/5
Excellent staff, very helpful. The hotel was one of the quietest and peaceful we have ever stayed in.
- 5/5
From the moment we walked in, it felt like stepping into an Aladdin-style vibe. The staff were very kind and accommodating, which made check-in smooth. Our room had extremely hot water—so much so that we could even feel heat rising from the toilet when flushed. The room itself had a unique style that we really loved, though it could use a few updates. Overall, a memorable stay with great service and atmosphere.
- 5/5
Great location! Convenient parking. Large, comfortable rooms!
- 5/5
Front desk employees are amazing!!
- 1/5
Valet available
- 4/5
The hotel is beautifully staged however it could use some upgrades. The staff was amazing; however the area at night was sketchy.
- 5/5
So beautifully decorated, creates a very fun vibe. Modern facilities. Close to everything!!
- 5/5
This hotel is classic, charming, and beautiful. We enjoyed our stay as it was very clean, the staff was friendly, and in an area of town where we could easily walk to restaurants and coffee shops. We would absolutely stay here again.
- 5/5
Staffs are very helpful, polite and gracious. I highly recommend The Royal Sonesta.
- 5/5
Very classy hotel. I will stay there again.
- 5/5
We had a wonderful week at this hotel. The decor was fabulous both in our room and in the common areas. Our room was clean and very spacious. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Special shout out to our breakfast host and valet Nadia :) We will definitely stay here again next time!
- 5/5
Nice staff, nice hotel, room was good
- 5/5
Really nice, old time hotel with a very cool vibe. The room was very big and comfortable and the front desk staff were very friendly. If we return to Seattle, we would definitely stay again!
- 5/5
This was a really well designed hotel in a great location with style galore. Very helpful staff, old building but updates are fabulous.
- 4/5
Great location, nice facility. Dinner at Finch was very good. Valet parking was convenient but a bit pricey. Piano music in the main lounge was too loud. A couple of flaws with the service: The promised refrigerator did not show up and there was no housekeeping on our first day. We might stay at this location again, but management needs to work on some of these "nits."
- 5/5
Would definitely stay here again!
- 4/5
Decór was funky, convenient to activities we had planned, DT Portland valet parking was $$ and the breakfast was nothing exciting for $15/pp. Willing to stay again if we had similar things planned on a future trip.
- 5/5
Staying at The Royal Sonesta was a unique pleasure. Every element was well thought out and creatively executed from the delightful lobby to the velvet lined elevators, beautiful murals, interesting furnishings and light fixtures into the rooms with lovely flying birds on the wallpaper, a great bed, fabulous bathroom and comfortable couch and sitting area. It was delightful to stay in a place with such personality and comfort in downtown Portland! We were able to walk everywhere easily and the staff were helpful and kind. I'd give more than 5 stars if I could!
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay! The staff were so friendly, and we appreciated the upgrade. The room we had was decorated so uniquely! We loved it!
- 5/5
Really beautiful hotel and wonderful staff. Breakfast was just okay
- 3/5
Nice suite and good location but the front desk staff was clueless. We had the $15 food and beverage credit which on the 2nd day the from desk staff told us that we can only use for breakfast but that was not the case when we were checking out and allowed to buy from the shop. Plus we lost $15 for one night for the two rooms we had as the front desk staff said is not transferable to the next day but didnt let us buy from the store. Also the breakfast was horrible thats why we didnt want to use the credit there. Upon checkout the staff did not let us use the $15 credit and said we should complain to expedia as we used your portal for booking. So please look into this.
- 5/5
Absolutely loved our stay at The Royal Sonesta Portland Downtown. The lobby is a work of art—playful, stylish, and full of character. Our room was spacious, comfy, and felt like a true escape from the city bustle. The staff went above and beyond, making us feel genuinely cared for. Perfect location, gorgeous vibe, and a warmth you don’t often find in hotels. You can tell it’s an older building, with serious 1930’s charm beautifully blended with modern updates. Can’t wait to come back!
- 4/5
I didn't like the thin walls; you could hear the television and voices carry over from the room next door. I was in room 922 and the guest in room 921 did not quiet down until 2:00 A.M. I'm grateful my sleep was only disturbed for one night.
- 3/5
The room looks exactky like the pictures but it wasnt very clean when we arrived. There was trash on the floor and a charger left in the bed.
- 5/5
Very clean, great location to river walk.
- 4/5
Staff was very friendly and room was clean and spacious. Only problem was not having a fan in the bathroom to help with moisture after taking a hot shower. The drain was also incredibly slow in the shower.
- 5/5
Vanessa the valet driver was awesome
- 5/5
Always a great stay at the Sonesta. Downtown, can walk to many shops, restaurants, bars and activities! Also close to trimet routes. Great location for a great price. Garage on-site is appreciated as well.
- 5/5
Loved the style, the king suite complementary upgrade was unexpected but something we realized we needed to blow off steam after a rough couple of work weeks. Front desk was incredibly kind.
- 5/5
Cool
- 5/5
I booked a last minute stay here. I was happily surprised with how nice the room was. The design and art was super cute and unique. Everything was very clean. The coffee bar was excellent with real half and half. I had to transition to another hotel (Dossier) for my final night of the trip and felt disappointed that I hadn’t been able to extend my stau at the Royal Sonesta.
- 4/5
Downtown Portland is interesting. The hotel inside was pretty just wish valet greeted you at the front bc it can be a little confusing. But I LOVED the room.
- 5/5
My go to spot in dwtwn PDX
- 5/5
Great stay! Will visit again.
- 4/5
Good size room, Finch breakfast for $15 is bad, not worth paying $3
- 5/5
We loved our stay here! The hotel was beautiful, had amazing staff and was located in a very convenient part of Portland! We definitely recommend this hotel, and we’d love to stay here again next time we come to Portland!
- 5/5
Cozy and aesthetic.
- 4/5
Good Value. Great Location.
- 4/5
Only critique for this visit is we asked for extra towels multiple times on different days, twice we didn't get the towels and a third time we didn't get the number of towels that we asked for.
- 4/5
I booked a corner king and the room was very spacious. The bathroom was excellent - large and well lit with a good shower. The furnishings were a bit worn, but the bed was comfortable. It would have been nice if we could open the windows a bit. All hotel staff members were very helpful and friendly. Our only real complaint was the breakfast buffet minimal choices and poor quality. It’s better to go to one of the many local cafes.
- 5/5
Amazing decor and felt like portland 29 years ago
- 3/5
Booked this hotel specifically for the valet parking onsite and the $20 VIP credit towards it. Not that safe of an area and had to find a parking garage down the street to park on our own. When we checked online after we were told by the front desk the valet parking was full, it showed availability.
- 4/5
The staff were friendly and helpful. Lobby/living area inviting and nice. The room and bed was comfortable. The water in shower was either super hot or cold, couldn’t get a warm temperature. Could hear noise outside on street during night.
- 5/5
What a beautiful hotel! From the lobby to the rooms, wow. Valet was expensive but nice. Staff were incredibly kind. Gym was empty and nice with a peleton and cold towels!
- 5/5
The Royal Sonesta is a cute quirky spot in downtown Portland. The attentive staff made us feel like royalty and the amazing and eclectic decor was really fun. I’ll definitely come back when in town.
- 5/5
I loved the aesthetic, it has a great location, and staff was great!
- 5/5
What a quirky hotel! The decorations are off the wall but the space was comfortable and the hotel was accommodating. We were upgraded to a king suite which included a sitting area. I liked that a robe was supplied. Thought it was a little unusual that a fridge and coffeemaker needed to be requested. We lucked out and a fridge was already in the room. Coffee (decent coffee) and tea were available free in the lobby. The resort fee $30 did not make sense since there weren't many resort amenities other than a gym room and internet, which are pretty standard. We were intentional about using our $15 credit on snacks and drinks to recoup some of the fee back. The location was great for accessing city center.
- 5/5
This adorable quirky boutique hotel is worth the stay. The staff is top-notch!
- 5/5
Great room and very interesting and nice hotel.
- 5/5
Very nice room, quiet for a great night’s sleep and friendly, helpful staff!
- 4/5
It smells like old hotel, but staff are nice
- 4/5
I didn’t appreciate extra charges upon check out. When I pay originally I would like the bill to be settled, surprises like a destination fee are not appreciated.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel with wonderful decor and great service. Truly top notch.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel! Our room had a great view and was very clean and comfortable.
- 5/5
Hotel was great but the on-site parking was full so had to park in a somewhat dubious parking garage.
- 5/5
Lobby, staff, rooms, beds, amenities are excellent. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
I fell in love with the Royal Sonesta Portland so beautiful and staff was so accommodating so nice! Great service! Security in front. Can’t say enough and the breakfast at the Finch was so good!
- 5/5
Great customer service. The staff was very friendly. The room was wonderful. The hotel was walking distance to everything I needed
- 5/5
Stayed in the king suite was so nice and spacious
- 5/5
This was by far the coolest place we’ve stayed.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly, room was clean. Convenient location to the Max, and shopping options.
- 4/5
Loved every detail of this hotel, with the exception of the shower. Our room was beautiful, creative, quiet and peaceful. I took a bath and it was also wonderful. But the shower was a different story. The water seems to be on a constant rotation of cold to hot, no matter where you set it. Will probably still go back, because everything else was so delightful.
- 1/5
This place is expensive and not worth it!! And then on top of it you have to pay a ridiculous amount to park. The room didn’t have a fridge or a microwave. $15 to a buffet of only eggs, potatoes, sausage and bacon. I would never recommend or stay here again!!
- 5/5
We stayed here for a concert at Providence Park, easy walking/tram access. We will definitely stay there again!!
- 5/5
The stay was amazing and the frint desk staff was one of the besf at an hotel i have ever stayed at. Room was clean with a great view and amenities exceeded expectations. Overall wonderful stay
- 5/5
Other than that we had a great time.
- 5/5
This is a beautiful property. I would definitely stay here again. The one strange detail: the plastic liners for the trash cans in my room were just folded and draped over the edge, instead of being put inside and ready to be used.
