Reviews
The hotel is praised for its location, cleanliness, and friendly staff. However, the size of the rooms and the cost of valet parking are frequent complaints. The hotel has a unique vibe with a bar and games in the lobby, but some guests found the noise level to be high.

Checked in for one night me and my boyfriend. Absolutely no complaints. Smooth check-in. Clean room, amazing vibes. Shout out to Taylor. She was extremely helpful. Amazing customer service. We were there just for one night and can’t wait to go back for a full weekend. If you’re thinking about booking this hotel do it.😊

Lobby was cool and most staff (not housekeeping) was very nice and helpful Housekeeping never came to clean. No closet. No fridge. Shower smelled. Noisy due to location. Doors were very heavy. Vallet was overpriced. Rooms were entirely too small. They spent too much money on the lobby and not enough in the rooms.

Stayed here for 4 nights and unfortunately the experience was disappointing. I understand Moxy is meant to be more casual and compact, but the rooms felt old and not well maintained. The bed was uncomfortable, there was barely any closet or storage space, and no complimentary water in the room. Housekeeping only cleaned the room once during my entire stay, and I had to call and request it myself. Overall, the hotel feels overdue for updates and better service standards.

The hotel is trendy and had a fun vibe. While on the small side, I liked the look of the room. I’ve stayed at a Moxy in Arizona and remember the amenities being better. There was no fridge / coffee maker in the room, and the sign stating “Ice / water” was incorrect on my floor only, so I wandered aimlessly looking for ice before giving up. The staff were all friendly, but based on the amenities I likely won’t stay here again.

It’s pretty basic and gives you the bare minimum. It’s small and quirky. When we tried riding in the elevator it did kinda fell a few feet and sounded like something broke and we were stuck for a few minutes. I tried ringing the call button but no one answered. The doors eventually did open but I was so terrified to ride it back up to the 8th floor which was where we were staying. The staff at the bar when we showed to check in were not as nice but were professional. The valet girl at 1am had vanished and we waited for her to get back to give her my keys so that we could go to bed and when she showed up she seemed confused, made me kinda nervous to leave my car. The security guard and valet earlier in the night were fantastic and super helpful. The room was clean but the bed was not comfortable and the shower temperature went as high as lukewarm. Honestly you get what you pay for. It’s like a motel 6 on acid.

The location was very good and the staff was friendly. We encountered minor inconveniences with the valet. When dropping off the car, we had to wait upwards of 10 minutes to leave the car. We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights and one day the room was never cleaned even though we were gone for the entire day. On a couple day the room was made up but clean towels were not left and the empty tissue box was never replaced.

Great location. Love the speakeasy attached. Customer service helpfull. Only situation I didn’t like was the Tv, you can’t turn the tv off. If you’re like me I like it dark.
- 4/5
Location was lovely, within walking distance of multiple top San Diego dining recommendations and a quick uber from everything else. The room was cozy. Staff were great. Friday night noise went very late into the night. The club and restaurants less than 100 feet away were extremely loud past 2 am and woke us up multiple times.
- 5/5
I love this hotel! Staff, hotel, and room wonderful!
- 0.5/5
Nothing just thief workers and valet people Nothing ugly and gross
- 5/5
This is our 3rd time at the Moxy(we are locals)Comfy beds, cozy room. Centrally located. The bar has excellent food and drinks and you get a free drink on check-in. Also has a cutie speakeasy. Hidden gem in downtown SD.

Moxy Hotels generally skew "fun", with young, friendly staff and a good vibe. This one offers both in spades -- great location, design that is a cut above, and super friendly front desk team. The room, though on the small side, is handsome and comfortably appointed. Best of all, the in-house speakeasy, Room 56, is a really a neat experience -- a bit of cloak-and-dagger to get in, and a passionate, talented bartender who listened to our preferences and customized our drinks on the fly. Cozy room, too.
- 5/5
What a cool place to stay! The whole place was a vibe. I loved the bar check in desk and welcome cocktail. The rooms were very chic, the staff was wonderful, and they even had a speakeasy on site! The rooms were small, but functional. The food at the bar was good as well. We'll definitely try other Moxy locations after this.
- 4/5
Simple Hotel if you need a place to stay in Downtown SD. Not much to highlight hotel but it was clean and closeby to restaurants we liked. Fair for the price
- 4/5
The staff was very nice, the amenities were very accessible, the food was good, and the rooms were very creatively designed. My only issue was the noise.

Everything was closed. Nothing on Expedia said it was. Room was way to small. Over priced and very thin walls. I can hear every time someone open a door. Sounded like someone was shaking out door. Not comfortable at all. Would not go back. Would love to get a refund if possible.
- 5/5
The vibe of the hotel is really nice and industrial looking, I loved that there was a speakeasy in the actual hotel! I wish that there was more clothing storage.
- 4/5
Valet parking price. Found much cheaper parking two blocks away. Found out from the valet guy, it’s one of the garages you use. If you dropped the rate in half, it might have been worth it but we didn’t mind walking the short distance.

It was a nice vibe, with clean everything. Lobby was fun. Those rooms are the size of my closet at home.
- 5/5
Small but cute room, friendly staff, good Gaslamp location, and overall a chill vibe to the place. Enjoyed the stay.
- 5/5
Best unique hotel stay and everyone was nice and professional and rooms are NY style and clean-spotless! Will be staying again
- 4/5
Good location, amwnities, tight room
- 2/5
Before we even stepped foot in the room we noticed the tv had fallen off the wall and was sitting on top of a chair we communicated that with the staff and we got moved to another room we then got to that room and everything was only stocked for 1 day and we were staying multiple nights we had to ask for more stuff twice the trash cans had no trash bags and they don’t offer parking for their hotel only valet which is at higher price than all the other hotels nearby.
- 5/5
The staff was amazing, friendly, helpful and attentive.
- 5/5
Very clean property. The water pressure in the shower could be a little stronger but other than that no complaints.
- 5/5
Very good staff
- 4/5

- 1/5
Staff were rude. Lied about a night stay credit (not a feee night) being applied to my account even through booked with 3rd party (i was surprisingly shocked). i guess it was just to distract me from an issue i brought up. redeeming drinks but no options for non alcohol, lady finally allowed me to get water or soda. i didn’t know the water is in a can, i told the staff, she then gave me a dirty look. shower is rusted and damaged also caused a flood. toilet flush was weak, luckily didn’t take a duce

This place is great! Amazing aesthetic, great service, prime location.

Staff was the best
- 3/5
I’ve been a fan of Moxy hotels but now I don’t feel confident to book again because of how uncomfortable the bed was. It felt worse than a pullout couch mattress. Glad to be home now. Other than the bed the service and cleanliness was up to par and the bar staff was great. If you don’t mind an uncomfortable mattress, you’ll enjoy your stay for sure.

Overall very good. A few details missed on room cleaning, but not a big issue
- 5/5
The staff was nice and the property was beautiful! The breakfast wasn’t free but was delicious! There are plenty of games, and although I didn’t go, there’s a speakeasy in the hotel library. It’s close to a lot of bars and food options, so there’s no need for transportation. I’ll definitely stay here again!

The Gaslamp District/streets have become overwhelmed with transients. Naked individuals arguing with themselves, human feces on the sidewalks, stepping around people sleeping on the sidewalks; it was very uncomfortable. Business owners need to address this with the city.
- 5/5
Great area and great hotel
- 4/5
Excellent location, bathroom door doesnt close correct so water leaked every time we showered, and vallet parking is very expensive but overall fantastic
- 3/5
Parking prices are crazy!

Staff was so helpful and friendly!

Bathroom trash can was rusted ceiling of room has water stains like the floor above leaks water
- 1.5/5
It was very comfortable No discrepancy
- 3/5
The location in the Gaslamp Quarter is excellent and makes it easy to get around, though city-view rooms do come with some road noise (which we expected). There’s a bar downstairs, but we found the drinks overly sweet. Overall, for the price, the hotel felt average—clean and in a great spot, but with small rooms and limited amenities, and there are nearby options we’ve enjoyed more.
- 5/5
I loved this cute little hotel, very conveniently located walking distance to Petco park in Gaslamp area. It’s a great vibe, playful themed with games, I love how we check in at the bar and get a complimentary drink. The room was clean, very modern and the deposit for incidentals was $20 per night, wow! The valet service was a bit slow, but the attendant was so nice and apologetic. I loved my stay at the Moxy, I’ll definitely be back. I’ll also recommend it to family & friends.
- 5/5
Very nice place close to lots of restaurants.
- 3/5
Felt like the floors in the room as well as the top comforter was dirty. Room is also super dark. Loved the bar and game options in the lobby. Staff was friendly.
- 1/5
When I returned late that evening, the toilet was still not fixed, and no one at the front desk answered the phone. I endured another sleepless night because of the constant noise. The following morning, I requested a refund for one night from the manager, Luis. At first, he admitted he would normally agree but claimed he couldn’t process it since I had booked through Expedia. Expedia, however, confirmed that they would issue the refund if the hotel approved it. When I explained this to another receptionist (Leon), I was told that Luis had no intention of authorizing it. Instead, Luis repeatedly offered Marriott points, which I declined, as I do not use points to book. Overall, the lack of responsiveness, unaddressed maintenance issues, and refusal to provide fair compensation made this a very negative stay.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly. The drinks at the bar was so good and our room was very clean and organized:
- 5/5
Amazing property, nice staff
- 4/5
The actual hotel itself is good. Not great but good. Very minimalist for sure. Two caveats: parking and surroundings. Do yourself a favor and use a parking app to buy parking at a close structure. You’ll save tons. Also, be forewarned that the surrounding streets, in certain directions, have a fairly high number of unhoused people. Probably wouldn’t stay here again more due to the area and parking difficulties than the hotel itself. Would rather stay in a different area of San Diego.
- 5/5
Location is great. Surrounded by restaurants, bars and lounges. Highly recommend the speakeasy in the hotel. This hotel has a great vibe.
- 5/5
Love the staff! They also offer little events/quirks in the hotel. Definitely not a boring one

I don’t think i will ever be coming back to the moxy in sam Diego, the one in Arizona is wayyy better my goodness. Felt like i was in an icarly episode talking to the team members. & for room service??? Forget about it. They came once my entire 4 day stay. Rooms tiny ash & just a weird dark ambiance that makes you feel like you’re in a dungeon. 0/5 in my opinion . Im 25 years old & genuinely the weirdest hotel i stayed at
- 5/5
I booked the Moxy for a weekend with my girlfriend and we loved it!! Super friendly and welcoming staff, cool bar and yummy food! The valet staff was so fun and the bar filled up after the Padres game! Great energy, great location. The rooms are kind of on the small side, but they came up with creative ways to still provide all amenities. I would definitely stay again and recommend!!
- 5/5
Beautiful and Trendy Hotel but I have to mention, it is a Super Pride Friendly Hotel- none the less, it was a new, updated, modern hotel. (small rooms)
- 4/5
Good service
- 3/5
Very small rooms, excessive price for valet and parking fees. Always out of coffee when attempting to grab a cup.
- 5/5
friendky
- 3/5
This hotel is located in downtown adjacent to nightclubs venues. Chk in w barmaid (no registration desk). Valet parking @ $75/night. Area unsafe and poorly lit. We saw several vagrants in proximity to hotel. Limited public parking options nor would I dare to venture beyond the proximity of the hotel.
- 3/5
Micro sized rooms. Don't book here based on photos.
- 4/5
I expected the room to be small and didn’t mind that. The shower was amazing but leaked out the door. Service is what you may expect from a bartender. The front desk clerk/bartender told me he couldn’t make change for me to tip the valet. What?! The coffee station was appreciated but was not attended and often had no coffee or sugar.
- 4/5
A cute, asthetically cool, affordable hotel. Loved the speakeasy hidden gem. Good for a solo traveler as rooms are small!
- 5/5
Loved everything!
- 3/5
The welcome drink was all ice. Just don’t bother. 65 valet was the most outrageous price I’ve ever stumbled upon in my entire traveling life. Highway robbery! No idea how they justify that. I found a garage 2 blocks down for $15 overnight! Welcoming staff less than welcoming. This location is meant to be the cool spot - the bar, the speakeasy at the back, the decor. The rooms are concrete and the floors in carpeted. You could easily hear the comings and goings of other guests due to poor sound insulation. The various amenities were all about design, not function. The modern hand held iron took 3x as long for me to press my clothes and was not effective. No in room coffee. The metal cart adjacent to the shower was corroded. Who puts a metal cart outside of a shower? The faucet handle at the sink pulled off upon use. All the lovely black fixtures were scraped and peeling. The surrounding area was uncomfortable. Other than tourists, no other pedestrians other than the disenfranchised of the community. Would not return. Would not recommend. For people looking to fill their IG with nice pics. All hype and image. No value or substance.
- 5/5
We loved our stay at Moxy!! The staff was amazing, the surrounding area was so fun and the speakeasy was by far the best I’ve ever been to. We were only in town for 24 hours but we both agree that our hotel experience was the highlight of our quick trip to San Diego
- 4/5
Solid choice in SD / Gaslamp. 5 times ..
- 3/5
I expected something better for them price that you pay in terms of amenities, really good location
- 5/5
Always a great stay! Staff and rooms are always on point.
- 5/5
5 min walk to the most happening spots in the downtown. Lots of restaurants nearby.
- 4/5
Perfect downtown location — super walkable to bars, food, and fun 🎉. The rooms are compact but modern and spotless 🛏️👌. Great prices for the area 💸. Only downside: drinks at the bar were a bit pricey 🍸💰… but no worries, there’s a liquor store just down the street 🍾😎. Would definitely stay again!
- 5/5
Great looking rooms. Great design and stylish rooms.
- 5/5
Great as always.
- 5/5
Friendly, fun & helpful staff. Cool quirky vibe of a hotel and easy walking distance to everything downtown. Hidden speakeasy was such a clever idea!

Phones in room didn’t work. Noise above us , noisy hallway. Small room.
- 3/5
Called room service for one and never came
- 5/5
The room was a bit tight, but workable. There is no closet but lots of hanging room. The lighting is not the best outside but the bathroom makes up for it. Just a few blocks of a walk from Gaslamp central and Trolley station. The staff is the best- Chris and Bryan made my birthday weekend amazing!!! Most def will be returning!
- 5/5
Sitting at the bar and meeting new people was such a delight—especially with all the amazing local recommendations from the staff. Moxy truly delivers on its promise to create a playful, social atmosphere. We can’t wait to come back!
- 1/5
Room is very tiny and very noisy. Watch your final bill. They may charge you something that you have never ordered. For example, they have charged me $6-7 for a bottle of water which I had never ordered and they had never replenished in the room as some hotels at all.
- 5/5
Loved this property! From the moment I checked in, I received excellent service. The hotel is a vibe!! Great music, good drinks, great location! There’s also a speakeasy in the hotel that is amazing. I will definitely stay here the next time I’m in San Diego!
- 5/5
The bartender that we had for our stay, David, was an amazing host/bartender. Very attentive to detail and great at what he does!
- 5/5
Amazing property the bar staff was awesome!! I loved that it was walkable to all the bars and places to eat!
- 5/5
Bar on site. Friendly staff. Property close to other gas lamp spots you want to visit
- 5/5
Very friendly people and clean
- 5/5
Great location and many food options that are walkable.
- 5/5
We stayed here for the weekend. This hotel is definitely aimed towards the bar scene/party/younger crowd so just something to think about. The location was great for my boyfriend and myself there was lots to do around here. There is no parking really besides across the street or around the corner in the parking garage. The room is on the smaller side but it was fine for 2 people and a suitcase.
- 5/5
Great!.
- 4/5
Rooms are tiny. Otherwise great hotel.
- 4/5
The hotels don't have a traditional (quiet) reception area, but a bar instead. In San Diego, it is on the first floor. When I checked in, noise was alluded to as a potential concern with which floor you were on, but not explained in detail. My room was on the third floor and had a white noise generator in it. The vibrations from the Saturday night bar activity were enough to keep me awake until 1 am. On Monday night, Karaoke lasted until 11 pm. The dance/party music is on All The Time in the restaurant/bar area, even at 7 am on Sunday mornings. The music is on All The Time in the elevator. I was in San Diego for a conference with normal business hours, not suitable for these late nights. If I were part of a group of bachelorette partiers, this might have been a great location, but that was not the case.
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
Had the best time staying there vibes are amazing staff is very helpful
- 5/5
I really enjoy staying at this hotel because it close to all the restaurants and bars in gaslamp. Parking was easily accessible, the check in process was quick, and the free cocktail they provided upon check in was delicious. The lobby is very modern and has board games to play. The overall environment was very inviting for young couples looking for a place to stay close to the party
- 5/5
Staff friendly, convenient location. Onsite parking. Cute room. Would definitely book again
- 5/5
Great location. Downtown bars, restaurants, pretty much everything is walkable. Decent hotel for singles. It’s also nice that the hotel offered one free drink at the bar.

Only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 is because you can hear everything through the vents. I could literally hear EVERYTHING the people in the room next to mine wear doing. EVERYTHING.

This is a hip hotel with a "speakeasy" bar on the main floor. It's a great place for fun in the Gaslamp District, but it is not for those seeking a quiet, romantic evening or a family hotel. I think it's geared more toward the younger, crowd.

Couldn't work out the room lights at all, so there was always a glow in the room, and the ice machine outside the room was incredibly loud.

It’s literally in the Gaslamp district. So many walkable places to go. The room is cozy and had a view of the street. If there was something you forgot or needed, just call or put in the order on the Marriot Bonvoy app.
