Reviews
The Guild Hotel is a well-located, boutique-style property with a historic charm, praised for its cleanliness and upscale ambiance. Guests appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, but some express dissatisfaction with the service at the bar and restaurant. The hotel's $35 resort fee, which can be used as a credit at the bar/restaurant, is a point of contention for some guests.
- Great location with easy access to local attractions
- Friendly and accommodating staff
- Inconsistent service at the bar and restaurant
- Mandatory $35 resort fee

Everything was great the only problem is the parking.

Definitely would book again :)

It was very convenient for us, clean and comfortable

The renovated lobby is great! I had stayed there before while under renovation and it feels like a different hotel. What stood out was the staff and the friendliness of all!

The TV connection would be in and out, very slow and would automatically turn itself off mid movie. Signs said the bar closed at 12am on Fri & Sat but they were closed before 11pm. Loud construction would wake us up in the morning. We stayed more than one night and requested our room to not be cleaned through the tablet - not a big deal but it was weird to offer to opt out and still have it happen. Lobby staff was super helpful.
- 4/5
Smelled good, great aesthetic, great shower, and amazing care products. No parking, and they don’t cover your parking, so they forgot to mention it’s $30 a night with no in and out entry.

The location was very good close to the city centre and waterfront and the service at reception was very helpful The room was very small, the view out of the window was the top of some air conditioning units !
- 5/5
Amazing and super friendly staff. I love staying here!
- 5/5
Love this hotel! The courtyard is a beautiful peaceful place to enjoy great food & drinks, couldn’t recommend it more. We stayed here twice, the rooms are small so would recommend upgrading to the larger size room if possible. Great location & dog friendly!

The front desk are amazing and responsive, even on email, the location .. the bathroom is immaculate. Grateful for the complimentary late checkout .. The lack of amenities.. no coffee maker in the room,.no complimentary water. Unable to get coffee at night., hallway too dark,.felt like going through the twilight zone, water in room was $6

Good location and front desk staff was good Housekeeping was a little lacking. Multiple times we had dirty glasses in are room. They were never recovered or changed out. Even towel service was bad. We had glass wear from bar left the entire stay from night one.
- 5/5
This hotel was worth more than the price we paid. The rooms was spacious, clean and had solid amenities (hand soap in the bathroom, Netflix login, bottled water in the room and quick valet service).
- 5/5
Loved everything about it Enjoy everything

Loved everything about it Enjoy everything
- 5/5
Staff were extremely friendly, and rooms were really clean. Room was a bit small but still worth the price.
- 3/5
Everything was great except the Valet. It was a mess. I text the number for my car as it was an early flight and was told it would take 15 minutes. 45 minutes later my car came after the front desk had to call the valet person.
- 5/5
Great place to stay at!!
- 2/5
Room 317 was too tiny for our comfort. No closet space, just hangers! Would not stay under these conditions!
- 3/5
Great location
- 5/5
Never disappointed from this hotel; service, location, food, variety in the bar! Excellent!
- 4/5
Good position near Little Italy,Seapoint and the USS Midway.
- 5/5
Clean and beautiful hotel to stay for the night. Idk about the almost 300 per night. But motel 6 was 180 lmfao idk I might be intoxicated
- 4/5
What is the deal about American cheese on the breakfast menu? To most of us that means Velveeta. Please replace that (the only cheese option) with something/anywhing else: chedder, swiss, jack. You have an upscale hotel, clearly invested in the decor. American cheese is like saying you are serving koolaid instead of juice or Sanka instead of coffee...
- 5/5
We had the most amazing experience at this hotel. From the check in process with Jose, to the excellent service from Bill at the bar/restaurant. The food and drinks were some of the best in town. The rooms were nice bed was comfy. The decor is stylish and the courtyard inviting. They are building a pool which will likely make this an even more desirable spot. History rich building with modern updates. It was so good I had to buy the Santal lotion, the smell so divine I was able to look past the price! Breakfast was amazing, valet was easy and quick. Easy downtown access, waterfront anywhere downtown really!
- 5/5
The service was very friendly and efficient! Food was amazing and atmosphere was beautiful and detailed!
- 2/5
We had travelled from London and were pretty tired when we arrived. We were welcomed and were in our room quickly. We were only staying for 1 night and had booked a cosy room. The positives were a comfortable bed, large TV and big shower. The room was tiny and had no storage space. There was a rail with hangers hanging on the wall. There was only a socket for charging on one side of the bed. There were no facilities in the room to make a hot drink. The glass in bathroom was clear which meant for any privacy you needed to have blackout blind down otherwise overlooked. The room was noisy and we were wakened multiple times during the night due to TV noise and slamming doors. This room would have been no use had we not been simply looking for somewhere to rest for 1 night. Was expensive for what we got for our money. I couldn’t describe the stay as bad but we have stayed in much better places previously.
- 5/5
Great vibe and location was perfect distance from downtown and food and coffee shops.
- 5/5
Staff was wonderful. So helpful. Great property.
- 3/5
Shortly after check-in, I discovered the television in my room was not working. I reported it to the front desk and a maintenance worker was sent up. He looked at the TV, said he needed a part or tool, and left — and never came back. I waited over an hour before calling the front desk again to submit a second repair request. No one ever showed up. I spent the remainder of my stay without a functioning TV, which wouldn’t be a dealbreaker on its own — but the complete lack of follow-through from the maintenance team is what truly disappointed me. A simple courtesy call or update would have gone a long way. Instead, I was left feeling ignored. If you stay here, be aware that maintenance requests may not be taken seriously. I hope management uses this feedback to improve their response process, because the rest of the property shows real potential.
- 3/5
It was good
- 5/5
Staff is great!
- 3/5
CONS: The blinds are all automatic, ours were broken, meaning we had no way of raising or lowering the shades. There was chipped tile in the bathroom. The shower head was so small that washing thicker hair was near impossible (but the water pressure was good!). The AC was confusing, and we couldn't get it to stop oscillating between very cold and very hot our entire stay. None of these things are total dealbreakers, but considering the high room cost and exorbitant valet fee, all of these very basic things left much to be desired. We also dined at the hotel, which was very overpriced considering the poor food quality. The "warm fresh-baked bread" for $9 was literally a grocery-store-bakery quality cold roll with what tasted like unsalted cooking butter. The avocado toast with a poached egg was near impossible to cut through, and the egg itself was hard-boiled and rubbery. Again, staff was great. Food was just bad.
- 3/5
Excellent staff. Interesting old building. Unfortunately, the rooms are very small.
- 4/5
My family enjoyed our stay at the Guild. Good location and old world charm without being stuffy.
- 5/5
Even though the key didnt work 3 times in a row at check in, Donovan made sure we were talen care of and able to get in our room. The drinks at the bar were fantastic, and we really enjoyed oir stay!
- 5/5
Only stayed one night so didn’t get to check out the property completely but I would stay again. Beautiful and clean.
- 5/5
Ok
- 5/5
Unfortunately we were short on time and didn’t get to check the gym. But the front desk and services were immaculate great bar and food. Everyone really friendly the room was perfect and clean. Would definitely come back and stay here again
- 3/5
Staff were friendly but ineffective in handling incorrect charges to my bill. They seemed to have problems processing Expedia reservation.
- 5/5
Very nice cute hotel. Wonderful experience.
- 5/5
The hotel was beautiful- staff was great. Breakfast was delicious. The rooms were comfortable and bathroom products were good quality
- 2/5
No one to help carry my luggage on arrival in the rain up the stairs, I asked for ice twice to my room and never received it, ice machine on floor was not working, hard to regulate room temperature, the shower water leaked out on the floor and the extensive all night noise outside the room made it impossible to sleep. The bar staff was great and the check in staff were very nice.
- 5/5
The room was spotless. The staff were nop notch. Breakfast was short handed. A great stay. So convenient for all amenities. we'll be back.
- 1/5
I’m looking to get a refund. The room (bed) was filthy when we were turning in the bed had hair and it was too late to for him and I too call and change rooms. We slept on floor. Towels smelled.
- 5/5
Staff were super sweet when I arrived last minute late due to my other accommodations not working out. Check in was smooth and quick. Once entering my room it was perfectly put in place and was able to reset/refresh feeling safe & comfortable. Loved the water in room as well!
- 5/5
Clean and great location
- 5/5
Room was cleaned and the staff was great!!! Friendly people.
- 5/5
Great stay excellent concierge and staff experience. My only thing to note was their not being a microwave for guest to use. This can be helpful even for guest traveling with kids
- 2/5
Poorly run hotel. Like a Motel 6 with fancy signs. Don’t stay here.
- 5/5
Adorable, nice hotel in a great part of town. Close to waterfront, gaslamp & little Italy. Friendly staff and rooms were nice. Rooms are small but nice.
- 5/5
Very friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
The staff was awesome!!
- 5/5
Quiet and clean
- 5/5
Everything was good.... except the art work. The mirror near the bar is so tacky.
- 5/5
The hotel itself is a beautiful place to stay
- 3/5
Light bulb in lamp in corner of suite was so bright and "white" it was like I was being interrogated. Engineer did bring a new bulb upon request. One star loss for any shower which I have no way to turn on without getting wet. Ice machine broken on 3rd floor.
- 5/5
The place was magnificent as well as the staff
- 5/5
Excellent area
- 4/5
Beautiful courtyard, beautifully restored hotel. I didn't like was the hall ways to the rooms, too dark.
- 3/5
Maybe we are spoiled but we were surprised to not find a coffee maker, a refrigerator or a safe in the room. There was a hair dryer. When we asked to change our room because of an odd odor, the staff was very responsive. In general, it was more basic than we expect a Marriott to be.
- 4/5
Staff was great
- 4/5
Very nice historical building. Great bar, nice staff
- 4/5
Clean room, pleasant staff, great staff at the entrance!! Breakfast changed from full breakfast to self serve continental unfortunately. Rooms are small. Historical building with class. Parking around corner, and walk does not feel too safe.
- 5/5
Great staff.
- 5/5
The staff were amazing! Right from the start I got in really late and the bellman Lelo helped me with my bags and car. The front desk manager when I checked in was also very kind and helpful to make sure I loved my room and felt comfortable. Yanira was helpful kind and supportive when I needed to switch rooms the second night to fit my needs a little better. She was so kind and made me feel comfortable. The bar staff were also friendly. I worked with Michelle most of my time there are she was so sweet and went above and beyond. I was traveling alone and she was always very welcoming to chat with. This hotel is clearly being managed correctly and for my four night stay I definitely recommend this hotel. It’s close to all the local tourist attractions and I loved that convenience. If I’m ever back in San Diego that’s where I’ll stay.
- 2/5
We had to be somewhere at 8:30pm , we got to the lobby at 8pm and requested our car from valet and they didn’t bring it until 8:21pm . We got back after midnight since it was new years , and I woke up around 4am because I heard a ticking noise and it’s a leak coming from the ceiling . I let front desk know and they said oh after you checkout we’ll have engineer look…offered no compensation . I found someone cleaning in the hallway and had the come in so they could see . They were nice and put towels to soak it up. Nice hotel but service and accommodations are lacking.
- 5/5
Every staff was really kind and breakfast is wonderful. My daughter loved the hotel including the staff. I appreciated the Yan.
- 5/5
Beautiful location and rooms. Breakfast was very sad and sparse. Staff is excellent!
- 2/5
It’s in an amazing location but don’t get fooled by the continental breakfast included in the stay.
- 5/5
Friendly reception, clean lobby. Room was also very clean.
- 5/5
Housed in a beautifully restored 1920s-era building, The Guild blends historic charm with modern sophistication in a way that feels both stylish and welcoming. The attention to detail in the design—from the elegant lobby and artful decor to the unique room layouts—reflects a thoughtful, curated experience that makes the hotel feel one-of-a-kind. The social spaces are equally impressive. The courtyard and restaurant offered a lively yet relaxed atmosphere, perfect for unwinding or connecting with others. Whether grabbing a drink, enjoying the California sunshine, or admiring the architectural details, there was always a sense of place and purpose that made every moment feel special. The staff were also incredibly professional and personable, adding warmth to the overall experience. The Guild Hotel isn’t just a place to stay, it’s a destination with character, design, and soul. A perfect reflection of what the Tribute Portfolio brand is all about.
- 5/5
Loved my stay! Def plan to stay here again
- 5/5
Great property.
- 5/5
Loved this hotel. Easy walking to Little Italy, Gaslamp, Embarcadero and next to metro station. Very clean, nice staff, great breakfast
- 5/5
Always a great experience staying here.
- 5/5
Everything really was comfortable (bed, really comfortable!) and quiet. I was grateful that the windows opened some to let some fresh air in. The building is so cool, the room had classy/modern character, and the area is walkable to a lot. I ordered a burger from the restaurant and it was also super tasty! As some reviews warned, there is a strong fragrance that I was curious of - it definitely wasn’t something I’d not stay here for but if you’re sensitive to smells, it is something to consider; that said, I’m guessing some people really like it
- 5/5
Great location, kind staff and tasty breakfast. Rooms were of decent size with all renovated with new style.
- 5/5
Very helpful front desk.
- 5/5
Breakfast was a great perk!
- 5/5
I had a great stay at The Guild Hotel. The staff were wonderful — from the front desk to the valet and the waiters, everyone was friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, the location was perfect, and the price was reasonable for what you get. Overall, a great experience and I would definitely stay here again.
- 3/5
Great staff The hotel is near. The harbor. Location is good has a rustic feel however, when I asked the staff for a water kettle twice, they did not deliver us or lend us a water kettle to boil water.
- 5/5
Had a little hiccup at check in, but staff was able to resolve the situation. Everything else was great. Staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were clean, the complimentary breakfast was delicious, and the location was right next to the train station.
- 5/5
good
- 5/5
Nice corner room with Sofa bed, good customer service
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and accommodating, rooms were good size and clean
- 5/5
The staff was amazing and extremely helpful! Will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!
- 5/5
The staff were amazing made us feel welcome and any ask easily resolved.
- 4/5
Air was nice. Breakfast not so good.
- 5/5
Nice elegant hotel in the middle of everything (especially near the train station, since I arrived by train). Staff was very helpful and courteous. Not that rooms are very small, it was fine for me travelling solo, but if there's 2 people in the room they must really really like each other.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel. Nice and walkable to many sites downtown. The staff very kind and accommodating. Would recommend!
- 5/5
Rooms are clean. Staff is so friendly and accommodating! Ambiance is beautiful
- 4/5

Very small sparse room
- 5/5
Very nice hotel. The complimentary breakfast was really good and actually before then some restaurants near by. Complimentary water was a nice as well. Beds were comfortable and rooms were very clean. Great standard. Also conveniently located near attractions either walking or a short uber ride.
- 5/5
clean room, great staff
- 5/5
Super clean & very quiet hotel yet still being insanely close to downtown. Staff were lovely & helpful. Will be staying here for further SD trips
- 5/5
Lovely, and great breakfast included. Smells amazing when you walk in 😍
- 4/5
Great location, food was descent (dinner).
- 4/5
Clean room. Good breakfast.
- 3/5
Shower never got hot, also temp fluctuated. Sparse and worn furniture. No coffee maker in room. Heat and cooling in room took ages to adjust, temp was set at 66 degrees at check-in took over an hour to heat room to 70 degrees. Valet was not at valet stand when we arrived, was told they usually hang out at the Westin valet stand, so they got called over to move our car. In the morning the valet couldn’t get our car out of the garage due to his valet key pass not opening the garage gate. Waited 20 min for car.
- 5/5
Absolutely great time, felt like a very nice boutique with great ambiance. Felt like the attention to detail was very noticeable. Food was very good as well the breakfast was delicious, great location as well in the middle of the city.
- 5/5
Our stay was perfect. We had such a great time. The room was cozy and the food was delicious! We appreciated the complimentary breakfast. The staff was amazing and very helpful. We will be staying here again.
- 5/5
Perfect hotel in every way suited us for what we wanted
- 5/5
The staff was incredibly kind and courteous. The location is a bit noisy with the traffic, but it wasn’t unbearable.
- 3/5
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were the best part of staying there. The breakfast was good and the free option was a good option. The room was spacious, but not very luxurious for the price. We had stayed at a nearby hotel last time in San Diego that was as big but offered a refrigerator and microwave in the room, and had better quality toiletries.
- 5/5
Great location and very accommodating
- 5/5
I am so incredibly happy that I chose the Guild versus all the other generic, help yourselves hotels. What I mean by this is that they made every effort to open doors, carry luggage, open your car doors and make sure you are aware of all the services they offer. My room was attended to daily. I kept the room clean but I’m on vacation and love to have my bed made daily.
- 5/5
Front desk staff was really great to work with. Friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. (Thanks Alicia) Great place to stay if you’re traveling to San Diego. Oh and the rooms were quiet! Love this place would recommend The Guild for your next place to stay!
- 4/5
Room was great, breakfast was good.
- 4/5
Not super quiet -there was music playing much of the night at least the night I was there, but I was still able to sleep well. Nice place, great staff, clean.
- 5/5
Could not recommend enough! So cute, modern and trendy but super comfortable. The bar was very reasonably priced and the complementary breakfast was AMAZING. Only hotel I’ll be staying at in San Diego going forward.
- 4/5
We had a great stay, the room was clean, staff were friendly. The area was close to the little Italy and Gaslamp area.
- 4/5
The property felt safe and convenient, with plenty of dining and transportation options nearby. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were kind and helpful. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
- 5/5
We will be back! The room had everything we needed and we walked everywhere. The weather was beautiful and plenty of restaurants available within walking distance.
- 5/5
Lovely hotel, nice bar and restaurant and friendly staff
- 5/5
The rooms are clean and the hotel has an amazing smell with the air fresher they use "Santel 33" and there are several place to set and just have a nice converstation.
- 2/5
Complementary breakfast was confusing with little explanation and room had little to no amenities window curtains would not open. Overall the experience was very confusing and somewhat disorganized leading to stress and confusion.
- 5/5
Really nice hotel! Simple and classy
- 5/5
Didn’t like the no closet thing but otherwise was a great hotel. Breakfast was excellent and the bar was great. Staff was top notch
- 4/5
Bad smell at the room
- 5/5
Perfect location to move around downtown, staff very friendly, great facilities
- 5/5
Great place to stay Vicente the valet went above and beyond
- 5/5
The hotel was great, the staff was wonderful and the breakfast was excellent.
- 5/5
clean room
- 5/5
love the breakfast included
- 5/5
The hotel is lovely, with an amazing staff, clean rooms, and comfortable beds. The only downside is the restaurant/bar. It’s extremely slow. Even the coffe and the matcha were bad, the croissant was cold, The food in general didn’t match the hotel’s hight quality. However, there are many good restaurants nearby.
- 5/5
Great location, easy check in, no issues.
- 5/5
Great hotel , busy with events . Bar team A+
- 5/5
Lovely boutique hotel, I’d definitely stay again. Comfortable beds, linens, large shower, good pressure, art and ambiance unique and well designed, service was great, cocktails well made, breakfast till 11. Loved it.
- 4/5
Overall, I really liked this hotel. I would definitely stay again. However, it was unfortunate that during my stay neither of the blinds would close so I had to sleep with them open as I had called front desk to get that sorted but no one came.
- 5/5
The location cannot be beat- next to Amtrak train station . All buses to airport, zoo, Old Town etc were one block away, including Sixt car rental which was 10 minutes walk. We walked 15 minutes to catch Flagship ferry to Cornoda island. Seaport was 15 minutes walk too. We felt safe walking as late as 1am with no problems. We loved the room. Complimentary breakfast was a fixed menu but plentiful even for a vegetarian! The staff serving breakfast sometimes got our order a little mixed up but quickly sorted it out. We would stay at this hotel in a heart beat.
- 3/5
Staff was not very helpful..staff was outside but didn’t help with carrying luggage’s up the stairs..or any services.
- 5/5
Beautifully restored 1924 YMCA building. Wonderful bar staff. Excellent public transportation nearby. Take the 992 bus from the airport. It drops you off across the street from the hotel. Bus fare for two was $3.75. Sure beats exorbitant Lyft prices!
- 4/5
This historic building is just a short walk from several great restaurants and entertainment.
- 5/5
Love this portafolio hotel. The complementary breakfast was delicious!
- 5/5
Great place to stay at; very well located and in great condition;
- 1/5
Nice workers. Clean rooms.
- 3/5
Exterior and lobby very nice. However, hallways were dark, walls scuffed and dirty, carpet worn and dirty and rooms needed some work. Elevator scuffed and dirty. Bathroom sink had a loud drip sound (some leak either upstairs or down). Rooms had no dresser to hold clothing, No closets. No fridge. Bathroom took up half the entire suite. No ironing board. Ice had to be collected on next floor up (we were on 2nd floor). Breakfast was great: good service and food was excellent.
- 5/5
Everything was perfect
- 5/5
The continental breakfast was amazing! The staff was at my service when I needed something late at night and the energy of the hotel was great!
- 5/5
It was a really nice experience, the free breakfast is also great
- 1/5
They downgraded my room to a smaller room with a smaller bed and then it faced the street, even though I booked a room facing the (empty) courtyard. Oh, and there were at least two wedding dance parties in the hotel. So I was awakened at all hours by loud noises during my stay and I was there for business so I was fried and spend 5:30-8 am being awake instead of sleeping in advance of my business meeting
- 4/5
Thank you for a great stay! I’ll definitely be back! Dr. Marie Murad
- 5/5
Nice, clean, good location to downtown and airport. Staff was super helpful.
- 5/5
Very welcoming! Overal a very Nice Experience’ A night before was my daughter’s wedding at their Venue! Everything was Stunning!
- 2/5
The hotel rooms are ok. But the breakfast is something you can skip.
- 3/5
Stay was okay - pretty expensive for what you get considering the rooms are super small. Service was nice. Food wasn’t great at the restaurant so go elsewhere for that. Centrally located so that was a bonus for sure!
- 3/5
If you are considering booking the "Small Courtyard Queen, 1 Queen Bed, Non Smoking, Courtyard View" room, I would strongly advise against it. The pictures are deceiving. I chose this room because the pictures made it seem more spacious than their standard queen room. We had no additional bench seating and only one single chair. When I brought up my concern to the front desk, they only confirmed to me that the room I was assigned to was correct. I would have paid more for an upgrade if they offered me a larger room but they really were not helpful in offering any other solution. I am giving this hotel 3 stars for their cleanliness, the guild cafe staff, and my appreciation for the Le Labo bathroom products.
- 2/5
The resort was in a great area. Main bathroom smell bad and both occasions. The toilets were clogged. Also did not realize how small it would’ve been which was the biggest negative I can take out of everything. The pictures shown for the rooms does it give you a clear examples of how small some are. Would have received much better review if the pictures showed exactly how the room would’ve been size wise need to have paid more money at the Westin or any other local places.
- 4/5
Everything was clean and beautiful. If they put more air freshener to help the room smells nicer would be perfect. Staff all great from the bar, restaurant, valet patking, the bell guy..everyone was nice and friendly. Shout out for the top notch service of the front desk lady name YAN. She was very nice, sweet and patient
- 5/5
Love this hotel! I will be staying there every time I stay in San Diego!! Couldn’t be more pleased with our stay!
- 5/5
My favorite hotels are thoughtful hotels like this one. While our room wasn't huge, it felt spacious due to high ceilings and well-planned design. The bed was very comfortable, AC cooled the place well, and it was quiet (except one dog barking on our second night). The bathroom had plenty of hooks and counter space, shower had a shelf for products, and the room had multiple full length mirrors. Staff throughout were polite, and the bartenders were a lot of fun. The hotel is close to Little Italy, so lots of good food is just around the corner. All around great stay.
- 5/5
The staff was incredibly attentive and supportive.
- 5/5
Really nice
- 3/5
Overall stay was okay. Beds were nice and comfy . Daily cleaning awesome. Bar experience was nice, Room felt small and always had an odd smell when you enter which you get used to in few minutes. Breakfast incl is great but service extremely unorganized worse that I have seen, actually skipped breakfast one day to escape misery. Missed tickets for few tables they really unable to keep track of guests arrival confusion while serving or taking orders. Better have buffet and not ala carte . Also not flexible considering 28 dollar value you allow, let customer choose an omelette why force them to pick that when its actually few bucks cheaper:) .Not impressed.
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Nice places to stay
- 5/5
Perfect stay really
- 5/5
The property is beautiful, rooms are nice and clean, toiletries amazing from Le Labo, great location. Food is delicious but the kitchen is slow.
- 3/5
The space was small but clean. I was frustrated that the included continental breakfast was only available if I had time to sit and take an hour beginning at 7. I had told them when I checked in that I would need to grab it to go as I had to check out by 7:15. They indicated that would work. When I arrived in the lobby just before seven, staff was inattentive and unhelpful. I was told that my only option would be to pay out-of-pocket for one of the pastries that they had. Also, the coffee lids did not fit the coffee cups.
- 5/5
All the staff were very helpful and friendly.
- 5/5
It was not convenient to park but the Hotel was lovely.
- 5/5
We really enjoyed staying at this property. Clean quiet rooms.
- 2/5
I hate giving a bad review, especially because the hotel itself and the staff were all GREAT! However, my room was facing the street and I barely got any sleep all 3 nights I was there because there were loud cars revving their engines ALL night every night, and even again at 5am one morning! It’s a case of unfortunate location but I was pretty miserable not getting any sleep :/
- 5/5
I stayed at this property for a conference that was happening at the Manchester Hyatt. I was able to grab coffee and a croissant and walk the half a mile to the conference center. The neighborhood is safe and it was a lovely walk each morning and afternoon. Staff was wonderful. The only caveat was that on Fridays and Saturdays they have club music going (I assume) as I could feel the bass thumping. Otherwise, the room was pretty insulated from noise. The bed was comfy. Climate control was nice. I had great hot showers. Overall definitely worth a stay.
- 4/5
The hotel is cute and the proximity to everything is very convenient. In my case though, the view to the ally was terrible and you can see many things you cannot unsee. As long as you stay in the hotel recommended areas you should be OK.
- 5/5
Beautiful art deco hotel. Clean, cute room, delicious complimentary breakfast and fantastic location.
- 5/5
Great property as a jumping off point for all the SD has to offer. Being in the center of the city, we were able to get everywhere efficiently. The bar and courtyard were upscale which was a nice plus.
- 5/5
Cool hotel. Modern vibe in a historic building. Easy check in with valet available. We ate at the hotel....food was delicious! We sat out on the spacious and unique patio for dinner. We were a bit disappointed because we had to keep going inside to the bar to get drinks, food orders, etc. so service wasn't great. Weird because the bar only had 1 person with 2 bartenders. Great personalities though and knowledgeable bartenders with a full bar! Unique cocktails. Continental breakfast included. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
- 3/5
Good location
- 5/5
Excellent location in San Diego for a wedding!
- 5/5
Loved our stay
- 5/5
All the staff was so accomodating and pleasant and prompt with any request. I took both my older sons for their first time to San Diego and this was the perfect hotel to wow them and be in a great walkable area. Was a fantastic stay.
- 5/5
The location is convenient and I was able to walk to the places. The property is older and the room is small, but the price reflected it.
- 2/5
The property is in DT and you can walk to different restaurants and bars.
- 5/5
I like that this property has history being an old YMCA. The renovations are very tasteful and maintained the architectural integrity
- 5/5
great old property beautiful carpet was a little old and rough looking dirty in areas but for being so old it felt clean. nice bar good drinks and food nice staff. carpet was my main issue
- 4/5
Very boutique - the “continental breakfast” is a simply piece of toast, fruit and yogurt. Everything else is extra $$ and you’re prompted to tip.
- 5/5
Amazing stay, front staff is amazing very helpful and accommodating. Will stay here again the future.
- 4/5
Good clean room. Quiet. Great location. Did not receive Addison tall towels after asking twice.
- 5/5
Excellent property. Excellent stay. Very classy establishment.
- 5/5
Amazing hotel!
- 5/5
Love the entrance of the building nice and clean loved the experience.
- 5/5
Todos muy amables a pesar de que no hablamos inglés hablaron de tal manera que nos pudimos comunicar y nos dejaron estar afuera relajados :)
- 4/5
Great
- 4/5
Upon arriving, everyone seemed welcoming. The room was small but cozy. Very clean and quiet. The only thing I was a little iffy about, was the restroom. The floor was a bit slippery. And so was the shower.
- 5/5
Such a cool hotel, loved the breakfasts. And being right next to a train station with an airport shuttle made things easy for us.
- 5/5
I arrived late in the evening and I was greeted with prompt assistance and quickly got to my room. I haven’t slept this well in months!
- 5/5
It was great. It would’ve been better if I did t have to go out of my way to order a mini fridge to the room.
- 4/5
The hotel itself is located close to the water and easy to get from airport. The staffs are friendly and polite. The room doesn’t have any refrigerator, which we found weird. Also the continental breakfast included was very basic, it’s only yoghurt, fruit, toast, coffee/juice. Outside that, you have to pay extra, this is also weird, considering how nice looking the property is.
- 5/5
Your “continental breakfast” was so skimpy that it barely qualifies for a breakfast at all. Either add to it some egg/hash browns/bacon options, or don’t call it a “free breakfast”. It would be actually way better to hike room rates by $10 for the “free breakfast” option and include those options, rather than trying to squeeze another $20 from a person for breakfast with this shady ad.
- 4/5
The staff needs to be better trained and services better explained. The restaurant and valet parking services were odd and we were there waiting for minutes at time while no staff was ever inquiring about our needs
- 5/5
Booked this stay last minute and it was a hidden gem. Check in was smooth and we were upgraded to a suite since the room we had booked was sold out. The room had nice amenities--complimentary filtered water, soft robes and slippers and le labo toiletries.
- 5/5
Beautiful, unique, magnificently restored YMCA building in downtown San Diego. Two blocks from the pier and Santa Fe station. The staff was very accommodating and gave us free drink vouchers on arrival because our room was a few minutes away from being ready. They upgraded us to a higher floor.
- 4/5
For what we paid, I expected something better. It wasn't horrible but disappointing for a Marriot property. The room was nice enough and comfortable. The included continental breakfast was disappointing and the bar service was below average. I would likely choose a different hotel for a future San Diego stay.
- 4/5
The rooms were on the smaller side but the property was nice, clean with helpful and friendly staff
- 5/5
I loved it, so nice and clean good area of downtown.
- 1/5
I am requesting a refund of my bill, no. 70301178. I did not stay at your hotel. It was booked only a couple of hours earlier due to a change in vacation plans due to illness and a 4-hour doctor visit at Sharp Urgent Care. I felt I might not feel well enough to drive back to Arizona, so quickly booked a room for one night. Pets welcome, free Wi-Fi, free continental breakfast, nice location, a Pop-up customer comment saying. "The property is very pet friendly with no hidden fees and welcoming staff." When I got there, the available parking was $60 valet parking fee per day, $100 pet fee per day with an additional $75 non refundable deposit due at checkout in case of "damage", although if there were extra damage, that would be charged later. ADDITIONALLY, this pet friendly hotel would allow pets in very few areas of the hotel. IN ADDITION, the "free" Wi-Fi was available for an extra charge if you wanted to use it in your room, AND was offered free in only a couple of public usage areas. These added prices added up to more than the really "good deal" price of the room. In another pop-up customer reaction, it was said , " Breakfast was consistently described as delicious, abundant, and a great start to the day" but was listed as a continental breakfast (usually pastry or toast, juice and coffee - lots of carbs, but nothing to write home about. When I told the desk staff that I would not be staying at the hotel because of the extra fees and parking problems, her face turned icy a
- 5/5
LOVE LOVE LOVE this hotel! Can’t truly describe what a cool place this is - chic & trendy, yet honoring the history. Every single piece of decor is so thoughtfully picked…super impressed. Also LOVED our server Sage at lunch, the barista during the day, and Carrett behind the bar at night — friendly, knowledge, and just cool humans. Would stay here again in a second!!!
- 5/5
Loved the look and the look of the hotel room
- 5/5
Thank you for a wonderful stay.
- 3/5
we’ve stayed here a few times before. we love this hotel. we got a corner room facing the courtyard on the 5th floor. it was a odd lay out room but it was still a great stay in the actual room itself. we woke up late. made it down for breakfast about 10:45ish and we sit in the back corner sofa area. were watching the 2 waiters walk around servicing the room. they clear out the other sofa sitting side, 2 more people sit down and I see the waitress rush to them with water and glasses and take their order. it’s 11:05 by this time so I finally decide to ask her if we can get some service, she looks shocked like she didn’t see us sitting there for 20 mins. she wasn’t rude but she wasn’t nice about taking our order. then comes back 5 mins later stating breakfast was over at 11 and they are now setting up for lunch. at this point i’m annoyed and upset. I told her we been sitting there since before 11 and wanted to speak to a manager. she informs the bartender which comes over a few mins after saying she can ask the kitchen but it’s not likely. gives us a lunch menu and offers to comp one of our meals. fine. I order 2 burgers with fries. we only recieve one meal. no manager no apology and another inconvience of a missing meal. I was done at that point. this staff on this particular weekend was the worst. Thanks for the comp meal though. I’d rather of paid and had good service.
- 3/5
Lots of rats in the outside courtyard. No pool.
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel, amazing staff
- 4/5
Nice place to stay, beds were a little too stiff but to each their own and the rooms where pretty small other than that, I would recommend.
- 3/5
Excellent staff. No upgrade offered. Room too small. Bed uncomfortable. Shades wouldn’t go down
- 5/5
The staff was excellent the food was great the bartenders were superb.
- 5/5
Hotel was very clean and attractive. Everyone was very attentive and friendly. The location is at a walking distance of good restaurants and other attractions. The only thing that was a bit inconvenient for me is that they don’t offer room service. Definitely a place that I would stay more than once.
- 4/5
Fancy
- 3/5
Additionally, the room was missing toothpaste, which is typically provided in hotels of this category. I had to ask for it. The only reason I didn't give them a lower rating is because of one staff member. I don't remember his name exactly, but I believe it was Shane. He really made a difference. Although the front desk staff was not particularly helpful, Shane was exceptionally kind when I checked out. He noticed I was struggling with the baggage and the wheelchair and helped me with everything. I truly appreciate his assistance.
- 5/5
The hotel is located in a very convenient location, downtown. I was able to get around in the area very well. It nit far from the airport, pier or Little Italy. It is was very cozy and the staff was accommodating. I would definitely consider stay there again.
- 5/5
The room was a perfect fit for a small trip and all staff were very friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Great property!
- 3/5
Great walking distance to surrounding areas. Hotel bar/restaurant is very busy and crowded. Parking is difficult because it’s either $65/night for valet or $25/night in a nearby parking garage (around the corner). Rooms are very small but clean and modern. Definitely not family friendly due to noisy bar/restaurant, size of rooms and parking arrangements. The bed was the worst because of how hard it was. We won’t be staying here again.
- 5/5
Unique experience
- 3/5
The room was somewhat spartan with no drapes so if you need it dark when you sleep, don’t stay here. There is not enough insulation to avoid hearing goings on in the hallway or next room. The valet service was okay the first day but, after that, spotty and they seemed to be either short-handed or having communication issues with the valet so that it took quite a while to get my car brought up. The food was good but expensive but the staff was very nice.
- 4/5
The history of the property is what led us to stay there! Location is excellent!
- 4/5
The only thing I recommend is for the hotel to have a parking garage, which they don’t have as an option besides that everything was exceptional
- 5/5
Had a king room on the first floor and we loved the big windows and the style of the room. The staff was amazing . Property
- 5/5
Great location, great property.
- 5/5
Such a gorgeous room and my absolute favorite Le Labo toiletries. Such a nice surprise
- 5/5
Great design and comfort!
- 5/5
Staff service hotel and food was amazing
- 5/5
Excellent staff and clean
- 3/5
The rooms are quite bare and sparse. The furnishings were of a low quality. Furniture, window, shades, bathroom, fixtures, etc. Come to breakfast was also bare bones. Kept clean, good location and staff is very helpful, pleasant and informed, but wouldn’t stay there again for the above reasons.
- 3/5
I paid for a large king room but it wasn’t large at all. The decor of the hotel was nice but honestly fell short of expectations. Food was just okay. I had really hoped for more.
- 5/5
We will definitely be coming back to stay at this little get away!
- 5/5
This is a unique opportunity to go back in time. It was a great experience!
- 5/5
Wonderful boutique hotel near Little Italy & Convention Ctr. Staff were polite, friendly, & welcoming. The bldg itself was originally the downtown YMCA in SD. The Guild & Marriot have re-purposed it beautifully. Continental breakfast was substantive and a nice touch!
- 5/5
Unparalleled excellence. From the very moment we set foot into the property, the staff was professional, cordial and treated everyone with the upmost class of hospitality. Truly a bar has been set by the un-matched warmth and service I experienced while staying here. The room was perfect and housekeeping was always so cordial. I cannot express how grateful I am to everyone who works here that I had an interaction with during my stay. I look forward to staying here again very soon.
- 5/5
Amazing everything I would go back 10 times
- 4/5
We loved the cocktail bar (boy was it pricey!) Our stay was let down because the room faced the street and two of the 3 electric window blinds were broken so we couldn’t close the blind and couldn’t get blackout in the bedroom. The bathroom fitments (taps, shower head, soap dish) were flimsy and showed signs of wear and tear.
- 5/5
Very welcoming! Amazing service
- 3/5
The smaller dark guy in the front desk was absolutely the worst. Lazy, lying about what rooms being open. Just horrible customer service. The young lady helped my wife and I with changing our room due to a bathroom issue in our previous one. Everyone else was great but him alone could’ve ruined the whole experience.
- 5/5
Convenient to Santa Fe Depot and Amtrak. 20 minute to Gaslamp. Beautiful renovation on the building. Nice bar
- 5/5
Amazing place to stay at 👍
- 5/5
Close to museums
- 1/5
Got assigned a first floor room where you can hear all vehicular and pedestrians traffic. Terrible experience. The staff was nice and the room was. Lean and spacious, but we couldn’t sleep through all the outside noise. Very disappointing stay.
- 3/5
The property was nice. The staff varied greatly from cordial and helpful to very unfriendly and unhelpful (one female receptionist). Unfortunately we dealt with her 3times while there. She could not find our key from the valet and had us wait. Only to have another person help us and our car was in front the whole time. She was very unfriendly which is such a simple fix to be kind. She changed the experience for us.
- 4/5
Pros: Continental breakfast was included in the stay and was great. Bed was comfortable Shower got hot Easy to walk to Gaslamp District Staff was very nice Hotel was clean and comfortable Cons: Biggest disappointment for me was that I told the hotel it was my husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary when I made the reservation. They said they would do something special for us but we never heard back from them or had any special deliveries. First hotel to ever do this. Normally we get fruit or champagne or something special to look forward to. The rooms are SMALL (like squeeze by the bed small), but the bathroom was big enough to fit a bed + in it. The drip coffee is awful. If you need coffee in the morning, go to a coffee shop. I look forward to my morning coffee, so this was a bummer. No pool here. I knew that already, but it's still a bummer. Altogether, I don't have any regrets, but I wouldn't stay again.
- 5/5
I had an absolute wonderful time. Valet was quick and easy. Staff was amazing room was clean. The area of hotel was perfect walking distance from Seaport Village, little Italy and USS Midway museum. Easy access to freeway. I would definitely be back here to stay.
- 5/5
My husband and I LOVED The Guild and will definitely stay here again. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the hotel was was a dream; from the beautiful architecture and history to the comfortable room and bedding. I would recommend staying here 100 percent.
- 3/5
I like the building's architecture. The hallway rugs can use a good cleaning and rooms can be changed to hardwood to fit the look they were going for
- 5/5
Kaila nos sirvio en el desayuno y su trato fue excepcional. Nos enacanto este hotel ojala mantengan alto sus estandares.
- 5/5
Enjoyed my stay
- 5/5
Nice property, easy access and walking distance to many places
- 3/5
Great stay but wish the dining services were better
- 5/5
Great hotel
- 5/5
The room is so clean and quaint. It has a very modern New York feel but also an industrial vibe to it. Everything about it even the amenities like the soap shampoo hand wash is Le Labo and smells so good & they’re not cheap about giving you the whole bottle to use so you don’t ever have to ask for extras! The room is relatively quiet as you don’t really have party goers like in the gaslamp district. It is very walkable to many established eateries, like corner bakery, Cava, Mendocino, and amazing coffee spots. You are not far from the waterfront either. I love the parking that is literally behind the building and so clean. Just make sure to leave by 12 PM for the $25 parking/day. The continental breakfast is a bit different where it is not a buffet style. There are limited items, but you sit yourself down and they will give you a menu. Definitely for the picky hotel stay person this is a great choice!
- 5/5
Great hotel
- 5/5
Nice hotel
- 5/5
A downtown gem in San Diego. Loved it.
- 4/5
It was a nice stay. Brought our dog with us and they don’t charge pet fees, which is a huge win. They don’t give you complimentary water unless you ask for it —but it’s smart water, so that’s nice. If you need anything else, there’s a 711 within 300 feet. The continental breakfast that comes with your stay is only yogurt with berries and toast. I recommend finding somewhere else to eat nearby because the area is so walkable, but the lobby bar is a nice option for a cocktail to unwind. Oh and park in the covered structure that’s around the corner. It’s advertised at $25 a night, but we only got charged $15. In comparison to the $60/night charge for the hotel valet, it’s a big difference. Cute hotel! Would stay again.
- 5/5
It was a comfortable stay. We enjoyed it very much.
- 4/5
The hotel is nice but noisy outside and people in the next room had a noisy party until 4am. We called front desk twice, finally they stopped their party. I recommend this hotel for couples only. The room is small and has no closet.
- 5/5
Great place
- 5/5
Stayed in a small queen room. Small, cozy room, but enough space to fit a couple of seating options. Really comfortable bed. Room might feel too small for two people.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Simple and elegant at the same time. Had all we need for our trip.
- 5/5
Truly a gem in downtown San Diego, a beautiful hotel with rich history and charm that shines through rooms nicely decorated. beds very comfortable, bathrooms are huge and have great lighting. Dog friendly and breakfast in the morning was a great perk of this stay. Great location and walking distance to many great places and restaurants Pretty sure we have officially found our go to San Diego hotel!
- 1/5
Stay away ! For the price you can get much better.
- 5/5
Very nice
- 4/5
Very clean!
- 1/5
Beware! They over charged my card and didn't even tell me until I got notification from my bank about overdraft fees. I reached out and they said it was reversed. I waited 3-5 days and never got my funds returned. All I got was an apology, they never even offered to pay my overdraft fees. Never again!
- 5/5
Beautiful and lovely hotel, the one thing is the damn bathroom light is on a motion sensor and kept turning off while I was in the shower
- 3/5
The location was fine but its hard to avoid the homeless population in san diego. The hotel seems to be run by college students. Not an adult to be found.
- 4/5
Other than that, it was a nice stay.
- 5/5
great service toms was a great help!
- 3/5
While the hotel was nice, I booked it due to the affordability I was led to believe. The fee that I was told when booking was not the final cost. They also add on a $35 destination fee as well as several maintenance and service fees. They state there will be complimentary continental breakfast, but apparently that is deducted from the $35 food and beverage credit they give you. Also, the only real parking option is valet and it is $60 each night. There is no room service and the ice machine is broken. I booked it because it was advertised as a great deal, but could have booked elsewhere for the same price.
- 5/5
This was our first time to San Diego! And just the two of us! Hotel was within walking distance of USS Midway, Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village. It was clean and comfy and staff were amazing! Quiet at night and were on the first floor facing Broadway!
- 5/5
We had an excellent stay!
- 3/5
VERY loud at night (people partying on the street noise). Nice location, very close to Seaport shopping/restaurants. Also close to transportation options. Would stay here again, just didn’t have that warm and inviting feeling that can be tough to define but is what sets hotels focused on customer service apart.
- 5/5
Please spend at least one night here. You will not regret it.
- 5/5
Had an amazing trip with my wife. The room was very clean and comfortable. Staff were attentive and welcoming. We will definitely be back here.
- 5/5
The continental breakfast was abundant and included endless coffee. Convenient and a a great start to the day. The bar staff were attentive & friendly!
- 5/5
Me encantó la ubicación, la atención, la limpieza, nos prestaron bicicletas para dar paseos por la ciudad. Todo muy bien.
- 5/5
I really enjoyed staying at the guild. They were friendly and the beds were comfortable. A clean establishment.
- 5/5
Nice.
- 1/5
Floor and shower were disgusting the sheets and pillows smell disgusting
- 5/5
We got in super late they got us in right away very smoothly it was wonderful!
- 5/5
The hotel was beautiful. It had much character as it was originally the YMCA for military persons. The wait staff was extremely efficient and attentive. They also went above to help me with my eating preferences with vegan and pescatarian options. The customer service was top tier. The food options were diverse and really tasteful. The added touch was the scent of Santal 33 once you entered. The hotel issues Le Labo products in each of their rooms. That’s a bonus in itself. I highly recommend staying here. I’ll be back for sure.
- 4/5
Great. Just the shower head’s water did not flow smoothly. It needs replacing or unclog them. Otherwise strongly recommend the hotel though pricey!
- 5/5
Great hotel. Within walking distance to the water.
- 5/5
Great staff
- 5/5
The showers are slippery and there could be more attention to detail on how clean the showers are around the shower door frame.
- 4/5
For example when I sat down to order i had to track down a server to be noticed and my food took forever. The menu offered enough where it should not have taken long when other guests were served more promptlY. I ordered a iron and ironing board aand never received it. The coffee and breakfast was delicious.
- 5/5
Just felt welcomed and very safe. Staff was very nice and attentive.
- 5/5
Great service
- 5/5
Great stay! Very helpful staff (thank you Toms J.), good food and a quiet building. Will return.
- 5/5
Loved this hotel! It was so cute and very clean. Everyone was very friendly. Will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Nicest property staff ever. My go-to hotel now whenever visiting San Diego — I’d recommend to family and friends.
- 4/5
Good amazing time very nice room only thing is we asked for a iron and they brought it 1 hour later other than that amazing stay keep up the good work
- 4/5
great value room, king city is compact and noise in the am (workweek) but great stay for the price.
- 5/5
Classy, chic, clean - hotel and room was beautiful. Staff was super accommodating and kind, especially with early check in. Definitely would stay here again!
- 5/5
Hotel credit $70.00 for food and drinks, which is great.
- 4/5
Excellent location. Very clean.
- 5/5
It was a pleasant stay I’ll definitely come back to the property with my wife, it was old school chic kind of vibe, love it
- 3/5
Close to transportation Santa Fe Depot Coaster Train Station
- 4/5
Fun place to stay, great cocktails in the lobby, and convenient location.
- 5/5
very nice, only place i stay at in san diego
- 1/5
Arrived at 7:34 PM. Not enough staff to help with luggage, no onsite management. We valet our car when we requested car the next morning driver side of car was severely damaged. Ace parking and The Guild hotel were terrible to deal with. I could go on with much more detail but out of characters for this review.
- 5/5
Everything was great except the ice machine on our floor which did not work.
- 5/5
Great hospitality
- 5/5
Todo excelente , limpio. Los jabones son deliciosos. La comida rica y todos muy amables.
- 5/5
Very nice and comfortable hotel. I did have a problem with the thermostat in the room, so they upgraded me to a larger room for free. Both rooms were excellent except the small problem with the thermostat in the first. They were very accommodating.
- 3/5
It’s was kinda dirty. Showers were nasty. Very loud, there was a party outside my window. Also, the slamming doors from the other hotel guests was insane.
- 4/5
The staff is friendly and efficient. The room was small but clean. No fridge in room. A nice touch to receive a $35 credit for food and drinks. The omelette we had for breakfast was excellent. The cement ceiling in the room needs to be painted better.
- 5/5
Beautiful property, stayed in the junior suite. Very spacious and the light that entered the space from all the gorgeous windows were perfect.
- 5/5
This place was amazing and cost effective for a quick work trip! I was pleasantly surprised by the dining credit, came in clutch for a delicious breakfast.
- 5/5
The architecture that makes up the building was so well maintained and had such a charm to it! I do wish there was some kind of food service at the hotel as it is in a financial district and late night options are not really available nearby.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and helpful
- 5/5
This place is great!
- 5/5
This downtown hotel made things very convenient and one can walk or train around to most places - no need for uber and lift.
- 5/5
Great!
- 3/5
They don't offer breakfast (charge for coffee at the bar), but they do have a nice restaurant with pricey but good food. Parking is in a garage behind the hotel with a nightly charge (valet is more). I genuinely loved the hotel ambiance and walkability to the pier, but the noise and charges for everything just made it less than great.
