Reviews
The hotel has a great location, close to Union Square and other attractions. However, the rooms are small and outdated, with cleanliness and maintenance issues. The breakfast is poor and not worth the cost.
- Great location
- Friendly staff
- Small and outdated rooms
- Poor breakfast
- 3/5
It was all ok until my friend pointed out a very large cockroach dead on the bathroom floor
- 4/5
And i still dont get my 100 dollars deposit back .almost 5 days ago
- 3/5
Breakfast was terrible it's an old property that has been adapted rather than a made hotel. It was ok but dissapointing
- 4/5
Close to shopping/restaurants of Union Square. Area is loud in the morning due to construction (not the hotel's fault). Homeless are right outside the front door.
- 2.5/5
This guest did not leave comments about this hotel.
- 2/5
there was an unappealing aroma in the hallways and in the room itself.
- 5/5
Very good location, continental breakfast was good. Very clean and identical to the pictures
- 3/5
The hotel was a bit small. The front desk staff was convival and informative. I suggest you park your car yourself rather than use the valet service. It's cheaper and convenient.
- 4/5
The room was really nice and we spent most of the time there, nice large bed, decent size TV, and we got a room with a two person jacuzzi tub. The breakfast was okay, nothing special. Overall 3/5, would stay again.
- 3/5
Great location. Reasonably priced, but you get what you pay for. Very small room in an old building. Would we stay there again? Probably. San Francisco’s hotels are very expensive, and this one was cheaper but still met all our needs.
- 1/5
The hotel is too old. Need a face lift, inside and outside.
- 3/5
Room was so small that you could open your suitcase only on bed. There was no room to put it open anywhere else. There was so small place from bed to bathroom that only one person could walk other had to be on bed. Breakfast? You can't call that breakfast! Recomendation is to avoid.
- 1/5
Old hotel. Rooms much smaller than advertised. Bad Service. $70night parking Fee. In a dirty area of downtown. Breakfast is laughable. Worst hotel I've ever stayed in.
- 3/5
It is too small and the corridor of hotel smells bad. They provide terrible breakfast with no breads. Only oatmeal, yogurt, banana, horrible cereal, processed waffle. The only excelente is coffee that is all and the bedrooms are clean.
- 3/5
1) I had emailed the gen manager & asked if he had adjoining rooms (rooms connected w/ a door) since I was coming there with my 2 young sons. He replied that he did and that I could make the res & he would arrange that we would be in adjoining rooms. When we got there, they were just rooms next to each other. What?! He thought I was asking if his hotel had rooms that were next to each other? Isnt that what a hotel is?!? 2) Plus walls are paper thin. The guy next to us was snoring so loudly that I could hear him through the wall and it woke BOTH my husband and I up. My husband even snores and it woke me up.
- 4/5
Not enough space in room after queen beds.
- 4/5
I expected a USB port in the room and there wasn’t any.
- 1/5
The advertising was misleading! It was called a boutique hotel and it was called stunning. I call it horrible. The curtains were torn, it was an ugly room. Not even a chair to sit in. It was just horrible!
- 5/5
Everything clean and new !!! Great place and great location AMAZING PRICE !
- 4/5
The property served its purpose and was enjoyable
- 3/5
Although it was a low budget hotel, I think the staff has to be more presentable and professional. The room was fine overall but too dusty and the dust was very visible. Needs better management
- 1/5
Not worth staying at
- 1/5
The bad room is duty with cucarachas We can’t bathe
- 4/5
Location, location and local! Booked this hotel to be walking distance to the Curran Theatre to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. 3 walkable blocks to the theatre and then three more blocks to Union Square. Very easy to get to from the Powell St. Bart. The hotel is a older building on a busy street, however my room I was in was very quiet. I enjoyed staying here and felt safe at all times. Rooms had coffee maker, mini fridge, blow dryer and safe. Continental breakfast; danish, cereal, bananas, yogurt, coffee and juice. Easy check in easy check out. One worthy note: Parking in the whole city of SF is almost impossible. Be prepared to pay big bucks to park your car anywhere in SF. If the need is there in the future, I will without hesitation book and stay at the Adante Hotel again.
- 4/5
Decent place, old building but good service Good location and good places to eat.
- 3/5
Location is good but the hotel itself is very dated and need some work. Breakfast was very skim, no hot food. Would be nice to have some bread and a toaster.
- 4/5
Old and in need of a refresh. Room was small. Very helpful and friendly front desk and cleaning ladies were very approachable and helpful. Ideally location in San Francisco. Close to everything.
- 5/5
Adante Hotel was in a fairly great location. Close enough to places we wanted to see. Pizza Milan downstairs is delicious and open late hours. Adante had a continental breakfast that made it worth it.
- 2/5
The staff was very nice but the hotel just felt dirty, although I really think it’s just the building. I wasn’t expecting to see cockroaches (and I didn’t), it was just an old dirty building. Just seemed like a lot of money for a dingy hotel
- 1/5
Place is trash. Photos extremely misleading. Tiny room, AC barely works, breakfast is a joke, staff has no idea how to run a hotel.
- 3/5
.
- 1/5
The room was smelly on arrival. I complained, the next night it was better. I had an ice machine outside my room so did not sleep much. The shower had warm water only. The carpet was filthy. The only great thing was the location.
- 4/5
The location was great. Staff friendly, rooms and bathrooms clean. The hotel is quite old but well maintained and priced well.
- 1/5
Did not like anything. Rude desk clerk. Filthy property. Do not stay here! Disgusting!
- 4/5
The old building was cool. I liked the convenience to the area as well
- 3/5
It wasn’t so bad that we had to leave and find a new hotel, but that’s probably the best I can give for a positive review. It was a little gross and based on the condition of the room, despite the beams being comfortable, I was concerned about bugs or something equally as creepy. Room was warm and curtains covered the window air conditioner, but if we opened the curtains we had people within 10 feet of us liking into our room. Bathroom was small and I couldn’t help but notice chunks of the baseboard removed and I can knuckle surmise it was due to mold. Service left much to be desired. Not rude, but not welcoming either. Knowing how many options there are in SF, I would not readily stay here again.
- 1/5
Tiny rooms. We booked with two beds. Couldn’t move around with 4 people in the room. Bathroom door wouldn’t close. When I say tiny I mean if two people walked in between two beds good luck. You couldn’t have two people sit face to face with feet on the floor your knees will hit. Probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Worst then a motel 6. I will never hear the end of it from my family about this hotel choice.
- 4/5
My room was updated and reasonably clean, but the hallways were a bit run down. A colleague of mine who was staying at the same time needed to switch rooms as the first was in very bad condition.
- 4/5
The Hotel was nice and the beds were very comfy, just the basics in the room which is all we needed. We didnt get our room cleaned everyday but on the 3rd day when we did. They didnt give us anymore towels or toilet paper/ shampoo so we had to ask for more. And we thought the breakfast was okay but was hoping for toast or bread as we saw in pictures, we just had coffee and a banana. Overall a simple easy place about 8 blocks from union Square area. And about 30 min walk to the warf area.
- 5/5
Cool and funky place. Would definitely stay here again!
- 4/5
Our room was smaller than I had expected, however the hotel staff and service was great. The best part of the hotel was the bed. It was absolutely COMFORTABLE!!!! I had a hard time waking up because it was super comfortable. Although the hallway was a bit narrow, the guest traffic was not problematic. The hotel is perfectly located in between Japantown and Union Square. Additionally, there are numerous parking garages so parking wasn’t an issue. Even though there were a few transients around the hotel, that is a common issue of San Francisco and they tend to keep themselves. The only real criticism I could give is the complimentary breakfast offered by the hotel. They should add more options to their menu because cereal, yogurt, and juice isn’t really much. Nonetheless, I’d stay here again the next time I visit San Francisco.
- 3/5
Efforts to update the space are evident, but the carpets in common areas are worn and dirty, the rooms themselves are tiny
- 4/5
Good place for the price. Old carpet- some dirty looks but liveable.
- 4/5
The rooms are very small but accommodating. Adequate for the price!
- 3/5
Bath tub was so gross it had dirt in the bottom and the room wasn’t even big enough to walk around without turning to the side. Should not be a double bed size
- 1/5
This place was dirty and the only elevator did not work. They wanted us to walk 7 floors. The ac in the lobby didn't work. There was trash blowing around the lobby as the door was open.
- 4/5
This older property has been renovated, so is clean and comfortable. Right in the heart of the city, it is a great option for travelers needing to stay downtown. Get a suite if you can, as my son told me they are the only rooms with their own restrooms. I can't confirm that so be sure to ask! Parking is available half a block away for $33/night.
- 3/5
They did hold our package for pick up.
- 2/5
The frustration we had is that this was listed as a 3 star hotel on Expedia and it is not. Its really is a two star hotel. The pictures look better than the reality of place. Its old school which is fine, but it's tired. The shower head did not work, none of the lamp plugs worked when we tried to charge our phones. There was a stain on one of the blankets. Wish I had paid a little more and stayed at a legit 3 star hotel.
- 4/5
Good lobby, poor rooms
- 3/5
Needs more than a fan to keep you cool.
- 3/5
It'd be helpful to check your towels and linens before using them in the rooms.
- 2/5
Location, close to the city center and Union Square
- 1/5
the night stand was dilapidated and fell apart, and the hotel tried to charge us for it.
- 2/5
Clean beds. Bathroom clean but when I had a shower hair was coming up from the drain. No matter how much I cleaned it up more hair come up with each shower we have took.
- 2/5
Someone opened the door on us at 4 am while we were sleeping, they issued the key to new costumer went to front disc no discounts or anything
- 3/5
We book a room with two queen bed for three people, but the room is small, three people are a little crowded, don't know how to fit four people…
- 4/5
Room was very small. The bathroom was recently upgraded. The mattress was like sleeping in a bowl.
- 3/5
Lobby area was very small. I will say that my room was clean and the bed was very comfortable
- 3/5
The hotel is too expensive for the quality. Good location, but you can find better hotels in the same area with the same price. Good: The staff was friendly and helpful, quick check-in and -out. The bathroom was clean and well equipped. Bad: The breakfast was very disappointing, don’t choose the hotel based on that. We could hear people walking upstairs. The building/rooms are old and outdated.
- 3/5
What needs improvement -- The room was tiny and poorly designed. It's hard to reach electrical outlets. The coffee pot cable was literally dangling a foot away from where it could be plugged. One has to squeeze between the fridge and bed. NOT included with breakfast is anything hot (eggs, bacon) no bagels, no bread, no OJ, mostly cereal, milk, cheap danishes, coffee, tea, bananas; LOCATION - Thanks to a local friend, I learned how to walk to the MUNI stop avoiding most of the Tenderloin (area filled with druggies on both sides of the street.) The hotel is near the Tenderloin but not in it. If you stay there, don't use Google walk from the MUNI to the hotel as it will bring you right through it. From the hotel, turn left, walk to Powell, then walk to Market Street for MUNI, and you'll be fine. The bathroom was very clean, but the room itself looks like it had not been properly cleaned in a long time. I had to move furniture a bit to get around, and there was caked on dust all around. Having stayed in European hotels, I am ok with this level of "roughing" it, but if you are accustomed to and expect the basic American standard, you will be disappointed, but the price is right for this very expensive city.
- 1/5
room stank of disinfectant, and the building show it was built in 1910. seems to be held together with paint layers. tiniest room imaginable, with all amenities most inconveniently designed. [ only one night table, no microwave, no view (next door neighbor's window), only two outlets, poorly placed and loose, bedhseets and blankets had distinctive odor of disinfectant. and $55.00 for parking --remote and not part of the hotel. took 20 minutes to radio the garage ("valet") ] won't get fooled again.
- 4/5
Small however clean and quaint. Service was great and the free breakfast was a plus! Just add waffles :)
- 4/5
Although smaller than the usual size we expected, it is clean and affordable in SF.
- 5/5
The location was close to our friend’s studio. Dark room helped to facilitate sleep. No late check out but check out was at noon. I would stay again if needed.
- 4/5
The building has an old feel to it. The elevator feels rickety
- 5/5
Overall a nice experience. The hotel location is great - very convenient to everywhere. Check in and check out are fast. Front desk guest service gentleman, SURAJ, is excellent! He miles all the time and offers quick help whenever asked. Wish everyone in the hotel is like him. Room cleaning service is not satisfactory - they did not replace toiletries.
- 4/5
Convenient and perfect for the price. Would definitely book through that hotel again for our next trip to San Francisco.
- 1/5
Be careful, even though the hotel states they have a parking lot, they don’t. They outsource it to a near by third party with horrible reviews on Google (Best Parking on Jones street - if you want to take a look). When our car was returned after checking out, the passenger side front window was broken and the door completely damaged. Also, the car had a huge dent in the back. Someone had broken into our car, so not only was the car very much damaged, but our things inside the car stolen. After talking with the manager of the hotel and the manager of the “parking lot”, it was agreed that I was going to take my car to the shop, and I would send them the bill and they will pay for the damages. You guessed it right... After all the pictures taken and conversations had, they are not honoring their commitment and are refusing to pay for the damages....
- 1/5
I order two beds , they give one bed , they lies no parking for costumer , i look for public parking and pay myself
- 4/5
The Adante Hotel is one of the less expensive hotels in the downtown core and I enjoyed my stay. The hotel is far enough away from the seedy Tenderloin area of downtown that it's location is not too bad. The check-in was fine with a friendly desk clerk. The elevator is somewhat rickety and slow; but I did make it up to my room on the 7th floor. The service staff with their carts also use the elevator and in the mornings it may be a wait for the elevator as there was no service elevator that I could see. My room was plain; but functional. Not many amenities to speak of apart from a coffee maker. The TV had a large range of channels too choose from. The bed was large and comfortable and the bathroom was small; but clean. One problem with the bathroom was there was very little room on the sink to put toiletry items like tooth brushes or razors. There was a shelving unit over the toilet which to put your items; but you had to go back and forth to the sink. Maybe a shelf next to the sink would be a good idea. Housekeeping service was good and reliable. Good water pressure in the shower and plenty of hot water. The complimentary breakfast was minimal with coffee, cereal, some fruits, and not much else. I didn't bother with the breakfast after the first morning. There is a desk computer in the lobby that guests can use. The Geary buses stop in front of the hotel and a 10-12 min walk to the Powell St. BART stop. All in all not a bad place to stay and centrally located.
- 4/5
The stay at Adante was overall good. For an old hotel, the shower was excellent. Great location! Was only disappointed in the breakfast. It would be great if there were more fruit choices (only bananas). There was only cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, and packaged danishes. I would consider staying here again.
- 3/5
Pero lo demás estuvo bien
- 4/5
It was good
- 4/5
Good location
- 3/5
Didn’t expect parking cost $45/day
- 1/5
We wanted to spend our anniversary in San Fran and the hotel was the worst part of it. I've spent less money at other hotels and they had car service INCLUDED.
- 1/5
Very much like an ordinary inn, not worth the price.
- 3/5
The staff were friendly and patient with what often seemed like very demanding guests. It's in a not-very-child-friendly part of town (trash-strewn streets, lots of panhandlers, some public exposure) but very convenient to the BART station and the cable cars. The facilities themselves are a bit dingy and depressing, and the breakfast is basically a motel breakfast--bananas, packs of instant oatmeal, yogurt, and vending-machine pastries. Fine but not inspiring.
- 3/5
It was fine for the price. Rough immediate area but a couple blocks is all good. No ice at the hotel the machines were all broken. Room was very small 2 beds took up the entire room
- 1/5
The star rating is a joke not even 2 stars would be deserved. We couldn’t even open door to the room it got stuck in the ripped carpet. The bed was in the way of the bed too and the bathroom super outdated and not clean. That hotel.com lists this hotel is a no go. Not even getting my money back. Very disappointed
- 3/5
Building a bit old. Breakfast not worth it. Window unit AC positioned behind curtains (so either leave curtains open to get fresh air, or they will block cool air). No soap in the room, we got it on the second day after multiple requests and thrn going to the front desk. We requested an extra white sheet and got refused "just one for each room"
- 4/5
Queen beds. Yay! Tiny space. Eek! Friendly, clean, good location.
- 2/5
Repeatedly had to wait for elevator because multiple staff members were using it to transport full size garbage bins. Dank smell throughout.
- 2/5
The website said there was parking but when I got there they told me it would be an additional $55!
- 4/5
Unloading and loading luggage is a bit tricky since the is no parking at the hotel. The elevator is slow. Rooms are cute and beds are comfy. Nice bathrooms.
- 4/5
The room was small but the bathroom was very nice, the breakfast the best morning was lacking but it was a decent place!
- 2/5
The only unique thing is its location. This is the only hotel I have seen that looks like a motel. The lobby makes it looks fancy, but once you go inside, it's just so... There was a cockroach in the room I lived in and the room is small and breakfast is so terrible and basic with just cereals and coffee and the elevator is slow and hallway is small and the outside scenery is terrible(I know this is a run-on long sentence but I just want to save time). You also have to pay for parking! Hella expensive. I paid freakin 900 something dollars for three nights and it's totally not worth it!
- 5/5
The room was small, but clean and sufficient for our stay. The free, light breakfast was nice and a money saver. We wanted something centrally located since we would be walking a lot. The building had a lot of character. The staff was helpful and very friendly. We checked in 3 hours early! We were grateful for the early check in so we could get our day of sightseeing started right away! I would stay here again in the future.
- 4/5
The hotel was clean but the rooms were small. They didn’t restock the bathroom
- 3/5
The dining area didn’t accommodate the number of guests.
- 1/5
Clock didn't work. Breakfast was mediocre coffee, bananas, cereal. Rooms badly painted, chipped wood, furniture. Tiny room.
- 3/5
After reading other reviews, my bar was very low. I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and had a ceiling fan which I really appreciated. It could use some updating, but overall it was a decent place to stay. Breakfast was just yogurt and pre-packaged pastries. The elevator felt very sketchy, so if you can get a room on a lower floor, do so.
- 1/5
This property is not something Expedia should support. Prostitutes at the front door, very unkept carpet, just not of quality. The price led us here but we would certainly not return. Very bad.
- 4/5
overall of facilities is old, but they are maintained well.
- 3/5
This place is a cut above a hostel. It centrally located and reasonably priced. Good place for the adventurous. The hotel is at least 110 years old.
- 3/5
Reserved the shuttle bus to the airport was delayed for 20 minutes and front desk staff called a few times and still not show up. Not a professional service.
- 4/5
We didn’t take advantage of free breakfast so I have no idea what it was and the WiFi was basically non existent. Gave me a password but it would never log in. We were only there for one night just to crash so we were happy with the basics. Overall cleanliness was fine. I never saw a big or a stain. Water pressure in the shower worked just fine and we had plenty of towels and toiletries provided in the bathroom. The room was small which worked for us, but I don’t imagine a family of four would fit in their comfortably for more than a day or two. Great selection of restaurants nearby including a pizza place that’s open until 4am! Overall, I’m very satisfied with my stay.
- 5/5
I liked everything. The rooms were clean, food was great. Thank you
- 3/5
I didn't like the extra deposit pay, and that they seemed like it would be taken anyway
- 2/5
The shower was leaking everywhere, the smell was bad, service at reception not that good (not smiling and felt like they don’t care). The location was fantastic for visiting and the bed was comfortable though. Won’t go back
- 4/5
Everything was clean and simple. Property needs some updates but for a clean & comfortable place to stay this works.
- 3.5/5

- 2.5/5
The hotel lacks air conditioning, making it quite uncomfortable in the summer. It is also located in one of the worst neighborhoods in San Francisco.
- 4.5/5
Booking system and valet pricing
- 3.5/5

- 4.5/5
Breakfast was less than wonderful. No protein (eggs, sausage, ham) but adequate to fuel the morning: instant oatmeal, 2 cold cereals, yogurt, 1 type of bread for toast with tiny packages of jelly, bananas). Coffee was good and hot.
- 3/5
On the 600 block of Geary Street. A little CD player then several blocks closer to Union Square. But that is downtown San Francisco
- 1/5
Toilet did not function. I talked to the guy at the front desk who informed me that all he could do is give me a plunger. Nobody there to fix it. Also, maid did not clean the room once in the two days I was there. Finally had someone bring towels.
- 4/5
pleasently surprized.
- 3.5/5
The room is a bit small.
- 1.5/5
The odor in the hallway and room was really bad.
- 5/5
Location and just the right amount of amenities for the star level and price.
- 1/5
The front desk staff was friendly-ish, but condescending. There is an EXTREME homeless problem in SF and the hotel staff openly let homeless people/non hotel guest enter the very small lobby and hang out, as well as get on the elevators to other floors.
- 3/5
The attitude of the man who was running the front desk was horrible. I definitely did not feel welcome after he checked me in. I felt more of a burden that he had to help me. Then when I checked out early, he was snoring on the couch in the lobby.
- 3.5/5
We were facing the street, so the noise of sirens and people talking loudly, kept us awake some nights. There is a continental breakfast, but maybe they can change the fruit sometimes? and add some protein? Maybe boiled eggs?
- 0.5/5
The room was extremely hot, and they do not have air conditioning.
- 5/5
This guest did not leave comments about this hotel.
- 2/5
Extremely small sinks Our gifts were attacked by mice They were nice to change us room but TV did not work Internet did not work at all times. In fact, one morning did not work for a great part of the morning.
- 3/5
I did not like that the water went from warm to hot to cold in a matter of seconds without moving the facet handle. I did not like that there was no screen on the window. The room was extremely small.
