Great location but failed to honor my Travelocity reservation. Upon call to confirm late arrival, they claimed they did not have my reservation. Once I arrived, they found it but then claimed they had no Queen-bed room, so I took what was available, which was a re-purposed cot on wheels made to look like a twin bed. It was awful. For my second night, I renewed my request for a Queen bed but was told I could only get it if I agreed to pay more. Deeply disappointed that I did not get the room that I was promised through my Travelocity reservation. Anyways, it's well located and has a cool retro vibe, but I probably won't stay there ever again.

Nothing The staff is all wired. Especially a guy with a tattoo on his right forearm. He is not helpful at all, judging us, stressing us, and is not comfortable talking with us at all. Their security policies are very weird. We have to show and tell them our room key, names, and even IDs every single time we come back to the room. The hotel is located downtown, where a lot of homeless people wander around, so maybe that's why. Their deposit system is very frustrating. They take $250 for the deposit, which is a lot for us. They said it's for the facilities, but technically, most of the interiors are already broken, so I have been worried that they will shift the blame for the already existing malfunction to us. The room was of bare minimum quality. The shower takes 5 mins to prepare warm water, and we took so long to figure out how to stop the water. Most of the outlets are not available. They don't have AC, and the only window is facing the wall of the building next to the hotel.

Horrible.stay Everyday they asked me what my room number which was odd even though j told them.the day before they pretended to forget as if to say "what im i doing here. " they were jealous of me being their guest and comjng in With new items.i just bought from macys daily so instead of them greeting me "good.mornjng sir" they would.ask.me."what is your room number sir" they also have a mandatory every other day "we must come into your room even if u dont need room service and then have the audacity to tell me that my room was dirty and had paint on the walls. I checked no paint so i called her frkm downstairs tk come show.me the paint. She came upstairs and she couldnt show me the paint so i asked her to get out of my room. Shameless lying creature. Just picture that. When i was leaving she.asked.me.to.wait so.she can go.check.the room for.damages which is a no, no. You.never ask.guests tk.wait Only reason i waited is so they dont make stuff up since they already lied on me.prior about the paint and i didnt want to give them.a reason to hold unto my $250 deposit yes its. I.also.recorded her when she came.back and sajd all.clear. never going back. Did i forget to.mention that they have a door buzzing system so which means after youve checked in anytime.u leave the building, and return they have to buzz u inside cause guests dont have keys and sometimes they might be in the bathroom so.u just have to wait outside in the rain For about 10 mins until they come back from the bathroom since they never hsve more than 1 staff. Thats what happened to me.

When we attempted to check-in, we were told that our reservation was canceled since we hadn't responded to their (multiple) emails asking us to confirm our reservation confirmation within 24 hours of our stay. We had never received any such request. This has never happened to us, to confirm a confirmation. They had a room for us to book, but they charged us almost $50 extra for 2 nights. In addition, we knew they offered parking, but we didn't know they charged $48 per night. We would not recommend booking this hotel.

Location Housekeeping service was only available until 1:00 PM. On one occasion, our room had not been cleaned when we returned at 4:00 PM. Additionally, when we requested fresh towels, reception informed us that I needed to bring the used towels down myself and collect clean ones personally.

The service was one of the biggest issues. The young woman at the front desk in the mornings was consistently rude and condescending. Simple greetings like “good morning” were ignored, which set a negative tone each day. The rooms are described as “Victorian style,” but in reality, they feel very outdated. Our toilet had ongoing issues—it was temporarily “fixed” with what appeared to be a piece of plastic, but it continued making noise throughout the night. Because of this, I often had to go from the 7th floor down to the lobby restrooms, which, ironically, were the cleanest and most updated part of the hotel. There is no central air conditioning. Instead, they provide old portable fans stored in the closet—I only discovered this on the last day. This is something that should be clearly communicated upfront. Check-in is strictly at 3 PM, with no flexibility—even for guests traveling long distances. There was no effort to accommodate early arrivals or even offer luggage storage, which was frustrating. Parking is also misleading. While the hotel advertises “onsite parking,” it is actually a public garage located a couple of buildings up the street, offered at a slight discount. This was inconvenient and not what I expected. While the hotel is centrally located in San Francisco, it is not worth the cost, inconvenience, or stress.

The hotel was clean, but it clearly needs repairs. The electricity in my room kept tripping the breaker, and this wasn’t due to high-use items like a hair dryer. The sink also had a significant leak that was never fixed during my five-night stay. I was visiting during a conference at Moscone, so rates were much higher than usual, which set higher expectations that weren’t met.

Be aware that Hotel Amari does not have air conditioning and there was only one functioning outlet in my room - which was being occupied by the television. Great location, but there's not really a place to park that won't cost you at least 50 bucks a night.

The staff was not very friendly or knowledgeable. I received a full bed instead of a queen bed and when I mentioned it to the front desk they insisted that it was a "queen room". Which made no sense since it was clearly a full. Received an angry cell phone call from front staff when a friend came over for a visit saying they called the room and no answer and threatened to charge an additional $25 for a friend visiting if they didn't leave in 5 minutes. Upon further inspection the room phone was not even connected and there was no way of knowing. No need to be rude. But it was an affordable hotel and reasonably clean. Would pay extra never to stay there again. Would not recommend. Hopefully they return my $250 deposit as they did not seem like a trustworthy hotel.

I was very embarrassed and was trying to pay an extra money to just he enters for 1 hour, the staff was reacting very bad and he asked my friend nit in a polite way to go out. For the price I still don’t think this place is worth it: fridge did not work, remote control greasy and broken, mold in the shower. Sure, they have parking but it’s more expensive than just going to the close by public lots. On checkout, I got my car and double parked outside so I could retrieve my already packed belonging in my room. The front desk lady start going ballistic and telling me I can’t park there and I will get towed. Mind you, they had their own person parking in the load/unload spot for over 15 minutes. When I told her that she said “that’s our spot we can park there.” Ok, so why does the sign say loading/unloading 15min max? I had to tell her to leave me alone and let me get my stuff. I’ve lived in cities for my whole life, I know that you can double park if you are doing something quickly. Then, because she was mad that I wouldn’t listen to her, told me I better give the key back before I checkout or they are going to charge me. Absolute nightmare hotel and staff. Typical of the type of people who run these places (cheapskates who just want to make as much money as possible why doing the minimum in regards to cleanliness and customer experience) Negative 5 stars. Don’t come here, just pay and stay somewhere better.

I stayed for one night only. The check in and out was quick and easy. The staff is really nice and helpful. They buzz you in and out of the lobby to keep it safe, regardless of what time it is. It’s perfect for shorter stays. Keep in mind it is an older, dated hotel, so the decor and amenities are nothing super fancy but it gets the job done and was priced super well. I would definitely stay here again.

Was ok for a quick stay, older run down decor and furniture but Clean. Mattress was horrible though, sunk in the middle causing you to lean into the center if trying to sleep on either side. Parking is a few door down from the hotel and requires a voucher from the hotel front desk and is valet only.

My experience at Hotel Amari was incredibly disappointing. Upon arrival, I was informed that I could only have one guest visit me during my entire 7-day stay, and that guest had to be registered at the front desk. This policy was never disclosed prior to paying my deposit, which I found extremely misleading. The front desk staff was consistently rude and unaccommodating, and every time I needed to re-enter the hotel, I had to be buzzed in like a visitor instead of a paying guest. The entire experience felt restrictive and unwelcoming. Because of these undisclosed policies and poor treatment, I refused to stay at the hotel. I had to go back and forth with Expedia, and only after significant effort did Hotel Amari finally agree to refund both my stay and deposit. I insisted on written confirmation on their letterhead, as I didn’t trust them to follow through otherwise. They claimed it would take 28 days to receive my refund. Save yourself the frustration—look elsewhere. This hotel operates with a lack of transparency and respect for its guests.

The room with two double beds was tiny. The rooms are in desperate need of updating. The water temp in the shower was very hard to control. You have to be buzzed in the front door any time you come in. The counter staff are not very friendly.

The room was spacious, but when I turned on the water in the shower it came out brown for the first minute. The floors have not been redone in what seems like ages. The carpet is old and gross, the sheets were clean but great. The towels were extremely used and bleached and small. There was no hair dryer in the room. The lamps worked but the lighting was poor overall. I called to retrieve my folio after my stay and have yet to receive it a week later.

I had a wonderful stay! It’s a cute, older hotel, but I felt very safe in the neighborhood and it was easy to walk to the convention center and many, many restaurants. You shouldn’t expect anything like a hair dryer or microwave in your room, but it was perfect for me!

Avoid at all costs! This place is horrible. They don't advertise that you can not have guests. They also will not turn on the heat or air. When asked about it they gave me a time that they would turn it on and never did. I had to sleep in my big winter coat. They then refused to give me a refund even though I only stayed one of the four nights I paid for.

The hotel was appropriate for the price. The allegations regarding racism are false. They also checked my id when entering and the staff didn’t know me and I am white. It’s more like crime in SF is going through the roof since they decided not to prosecute theft below 700 USD anymore. Even Trader Joe’s and Ross has like four securities checking you when you enter the SF store. That’s probably also the reason for the high deposit. If you steal, they can just take it back. Cleanliness: OK, no bed bugs or so. Water from the tap was clean. Shower had a short brown flush whenever I used it. Coffee maker was provided, but it did not work. Low price, fair service. Nothing to complain about. Area is also rather safe.

Wonderful stay felt very safe inside the hotel. This is probably the best cleaning service I have seen you can literally smell the detergent and softener of the sheets when you walk in and the smell of cleaning products which made me and my partner feel so safe getting into the bed. The staff was so kind and helpful. There was a convience store right next to the hotel which was convenient for water and other forgotten necessities. Would definitely come back wish more hotels were like this one!

Arrived and was told to wait in the lobby when there were clearly two people behind the counter doing nothing. Told them I was short of time so they checked me in with a lot of clear confusion between staff. Was put on the 6th floor and told the only elevator wasn't working. Climbed the endless stairs to find out the internet was also not working. The shower drain was clogged, the shower would only put out very hot or very cold water, the window from the shower to the cold outside would not close. The mattress was thin, hard and sagging. One of my worst stays at a hotel ever.

This hotel is dirty, no air conditioner and no parking. They say parking is available but when we ask where we can park, they told us there was no parking and we have to pay for our own parking at the cost of almost 60.00 dollars a day. They told us they were out of vouchers and that they were going to have them available the day of our departure. The hotel was disgusting dirty, the three nights we stayed they never changed our bed sheets. They do not have air conditioner and they provide filthy fans. When I told the front desk to provide parking the person working there started to argue with me, I said that the information they provided on Expedia is misleading and that they would definitely get a bad review, the front desk person said that I was threatening them and that they can kick me out of the hotel because I said that! Bed sheets were not washed properly when we arrived, they stink really bad and there was other peoples hair on them. They do not provide hand soap either. The building stinks really bad. Long story short, I rented two rooms as there was two couples and the other room was filthy as well. I do not recommend staying at this hotel unless you don’t mind paying lots of money and staying in a filthy place.

This was a nice historic hotel. What I didn't like is that in addition to paying the hotel fees, they ask for a $250 refundable deposit upon check-in. I found this very off-putting. Also to get into the hotel entrance you have to be buzzed in. There was a time when the desk clerk had to leave the desk and many of us were buzzing trying to get in. We even called the hotel front desk, and the phone wasn't answered. They need to change this.

Great place to stay. Very friendly and helpful staff. 24 hour front desk. Clean and cozy rooms with fire escape. No microwave in room, but there is a fridge and the lobby floor has a lounge with an ice machine and a soda vending machine. Lots of fantastic eating options near by and plenty of things to walk to and see and shop. Easy to order food via Doordash or Uber if you want to stay in or easy to get a ride if you want to go somewhere. I would stay there again.

They charge your CC for a damage deposit but only accept certain American credit cards.
