Too bad

Bad body wash made my skin super dry and didn’t even try the shampoo and conditioner, the towels for our body were so small and for reference I’m only 170 and I’m 5’4 so I should be able to be comfortable and the walls for the bathroom seem to be repainted over and over than full redone so there could be mold and the staff were barely at the desk
- 4/5
Hotel has nice staff, you get only one trash can though in the room not in the restroom. There is no ac but they provide a standing fan. Windows are able to open and the room was clean. They don’t have parking, but there is a building nearby to park. A lot of shops are in walking distance for this hotel. It’s near the Nintendo store, china town, the Masonic, luxury stores. There is homeless so keep that in mind.

There were a few hairs around the plug in bath and on floor. I liked the location.
- 3/5
Parking was the only issue but that’s all of San Francisco
- 1/5
Honestly yes it’s the cheapest, but there is a reason why. Besides the vagrant activity in front of the hotel there is just a nastiness around the whole property. Body hair all over in the room and the sheets were literally crusty. In the morning I went down to the front desk and asked for a small trash bag for our dirty clothes. The lady said nope they can’t spare one. Idk I’d just stay away from the general area.
- 2/5
They gave us a room on the main street facing. Super loud noises throughout the night and the windows are thin. Finding parking was a nightmare. Parking garage charges $60-$100.

Was a cheap stay to be in union square for one night
- 1.5/5
The room was extremely small and overcrowded. The shower and toilet were almost touching each other, making the washroom very uncomfortable to use. When opening the washroom door, it would hit the bed due to the limited space. Additionally, the sink was located inside the bedroom directly in front of the bed, which felt awkward and inconvenient. Nothing was better.

Despite the mixed reviews on the internet, our room was clean, the staff was professional and I will be back.
- 5/5
This stay was in conjunction with a performance at a nearby venue, parking and venue were essentially all on one block, making things super convenient. There was no trouble at check-in so front desk was a breeze. Would recommend this hotel to anyone doing something nearby.

Best price quality possible

There was a lot of places to eat and places of entertainment. The parking was very minimal, however the parking garages were avaliable but expensive.
- 4/5
It was q good stay overall! The place was clean but room needs improvement like yesterday! Front desk guys were friendly. I went early to drop my bags but he let me in to my room earlier than my check in. And the location!!!!!!! You definitely pay for location here ! It’s so good. Everything is near there! I would recommend it!
- 4/5
I was able to commute easily to and from the airport and the hotel by public transportation. It was close to a variety of places to eat and shop. The room was clean. The location was great. I did not require parking although I saw many lots available in the immediate area.

Great location. 24/7 help desk Rooms are good
- 5/5
Hansel at the front desk was very helpful during check in/check out during our stay. Most important information we needed to get around the city....a good person to have at the customer position!
- 5/5
Clean room with a small fridge, cable tv, free wifi, elevator and the cleanest private bathroom I have ever seen in a budget friendly hotel. It's close to food and tourist attractions. There's no on site parking, however there's a parking garage just a few buildings up. I just needed to get away for a couple of days and I will definitely stay there again and I highly recommend it.
- 4/5
The room was decently sized and clean and it was near really everything. The Nintendo store is right down the street and the Pinecrest diner is across the street.
- 5/5
Great staff great location!

Staff is amazing! So friendly and helpful. Highly recommend staying here. Great location as well.

- 5/5
Great staff and perfect location!!
- 2/5
There was no air conditioning or climate control in the room. The room was ten degrees or more warmer than the outside or even the hallways at all times. The room was very dated and the bathroom was in need of a refresh. In any other city, at any other time (not the RSAC dates), this hotel would never command the premium price I paid.
- 2/5
The room was very much smaller than the pictures show. The tube was broken wouldn't drain the water properly we had to force the water to drain. The front desk girl sent the cleaning team up to fix a maintenance person la problem. There was hair throughout the tub and bathroom floor. Weekend morning girl rude. I asked had my complaint been received and recorded and was told yes but never heard back from hotel management that only shows up on the weekdays... no MOD.
- 5/5
Love it here. Especially for a quick fun night
- 5/5
Stay here often. Great staff good location.

“shampoo”. While in shower, discovered that dispenser with pink liquid did not dispense. There I was with rat’s nest of wet hair. I called front desk “will let housekeeping know when they get in”. No attempt to problem solve, all my efforts to resolve were met with stone wall. Never again

Very quaint and elegant decor, excellent location close to downtown - but it is close enough to the Tenderloin and what that brings Rooms were a bit small, and the room we had was next door to the only elevator. The elevator makes a sort of banging noise when it is in operation - and you WILL hear it all night if you are a light sleeper

Also, someone, staff was cooking and the whole hotel wreaked of food. We were forced to stay that night but checked out 1st thing next day. I complained to Expedia and they tried to get me a refund. I did not want a refund from the night I stayed only not be charged for the remaining part of my trip. But seriously, I do not complain but this hotel was bad.
- 2/5
I stayed at this hotel, and unfortunately, it wasn’t ideal for a business trip. The room had only three hangers in the closet, and there was no desk or workspace available anywhere on the property. There was also no lounge or common area where one could sit and work. The building itself feels outdated and could use some upgrades. My room was cold, with no thermostat or extra blankets provided, which made it uncomfortable. Being on the top floor, I also found it concerning that the window opened all the way without any safety features in place. Overall, not an excellent choice for business travelers.
- 1/5
Total Paid: $1,255.10 My stay at this hotel was one of the most disappointing and unnecessarily stressful experiences I’ve had. To begin with, housekeeping never cleaned our room a single time during our 10-night stay. The only time the housekeepers entered was unannounced while we were asleep, which is a serious safety and privacy concern. But the biggest issue came from a senior staff member, whose behavior was shockingly unprofessional. When we requested a late checkout, this person loudly announced to us that they had “told everyone not to grant you a late checkout,” speaking in a hostile and confrontational tone. As we were packing to leave, they even had housekeeping waiting outside our door, creating an extremely uncomfortable and pressured environment. This wasn’t a misunderstanding — it was deliberate and unnecessary rudeness from someone who clearly should not be in a customer-facing role. It’s unfortunate, because most of the staff were kind. But one person in a position of authority created an atmosphere of hostility that overshadowed the entire stay. Between the lack of housekeeping, the privacy violation, and the dismissive treatment at checkout, I cannot recommend this hotel. Management seriously needs to address how guests are being treated by those representing them.

The staff provides parking information, thank you.
- 1/5
Room was small and old… like a budget studio apartment
- 5/5
Perfect
- 2/5
Unsafe area too much homeless people. At night they poop and pee everywhere. Even experienced getting followed. The hotel is old. Very tight space for bathroom but the bed was alright. The staff was nice at least to help us with technical issues. The full bed room was really tight but the two beds bigger room had a decent space to move around. I wouldn't come back again but it was a decent experience. Wouldn't recommend for safety issues.
- 5/5
Parking is pricey
- 5/5
Close to venue
- 3/5
Staff was nice! The room was a bit dirty, one of the rooms had something like sugar or salt under the glass part of a table that just wasn’t cleaned up. It seemed like the only thing regularly cleaned was the bed which was nice. The parking is terrible, the place they say they is the wrong address!!! I would choose a better option if i was staying in SF again.
- 2/5
The hotel DOES NOT provide tissues in their rooms, so we had to purchase tissues at Walgreens. The hotel DOES NOT provide wash cloths so we had to purchase a shower scrunche so we could lather up in the shower. We came into the room agter our day out only to discover there were NO replacement bath or hand towels. Again, I had to go to the desk clerck to get towels. The bed in the hotel was OK to sleep in. The hotel is located near the Union Square Plaza and that was convienent. Would I stay again at this hotel in the future. NO.....
- 2/5
Tough week to stay as it was Dreamforce and rooms were expensive but I wouldn't stay again. Very old, stale smelling, nothing luxury about it including the sheets, towels, pillows or comforter. But, did the job if you need something in a pinch.
- 2/5
The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The room was so filthy, we didn’t even use the shower. They were stains on the sheets and unrecognizable things on the nightstand. We stayed one night and left.
- 3/5
Clean room, parking available.
- 4/5
Although the location itself made this hotel very convenient, it was noisy at times. Refuge collection at 2am?? The hotel itself needs serious money spending on it to get it up to today’s standards.
- 1/5
Old dirty and unsafe
- 4/5
Walkable to T Mobile Park. Nice dining options very close. However, very noisy. Homeless people are common, but not prolific.
- 1/5
I want a refund. No a/c. Very stuffy in the hotel and the room. I couldn’t breathe. I left and got another hotel. I need a refund.
- 4/5
Room was just not 100% clean.
- 4/5
The zone is very down full of homeless and dirty neighborhoods.
- 5/5
Service was excellent especially Hansel at the desk
- 5/5
Grungy and old
- 3/5
Didn't like the location. No where to park.
- 3/5
No microwave or a/c and heating in room
- 4/5
Property is old, however beds were clean and bathrooms and shower was updated. In room carpets looked dirty. Staff was very welcoming and helpful navigating the neighborhood. It’s a great location to visit most sights by food. We enjoyed the location. Nice to see SF recovering post COVID. City felt much better in summer of 2025 vs last year
- 4/5
For the location, the price was OK, but it's a bare bones place. Room was clean, and the bed and shower were decent, but they don't even have coffee.
- 1/5
Bathroom is completely covered in black mold ! But the guy who seems to be the owner made up for it so i’m sorry to him for this review I don’t blame him. Goodnight!
- 3/5
No on place to eat . Room cold .No personal thermostat in order to heat my room. The whole building needed to be heated . Which they did with reservation. The day I arrived it was in the low 50"s and rainy no sunshine. room was on the cool side.

Nice budget hotel in the heart of San Fran. Clean, basic and well-furnished room. Convenient to Union Square and other areas. Just be mindful of vagrants and definitely park in a safe garage.
- 4/5
Great value, friendly staff. Room was clean as I would expect. Neighborhood is convenient block up from Union square, Easy walk to market, moscone, ferry building, financial district, and Chinatown.
- 1/5
It was the most traumatic night in my life.
- 5/5
No issues. If anyone is arriving after 11pm and need to find parking in a garage, good luck. All the nearby lots closed by 10pm.
- 3/5
This hotel was decent for what it was... I must say that the carpet does give off a smell like it needs to be cleaned and the circulation through the hotel is minimal but other than that the staff was nice the space was decent and it was good for the 2 days I needed it for.
- 4/5
Nice and quiet inside, safe. Locked and watched front door. Very loud outside all night but we expected most of it, no a/c so open window hear all- try just bathroom window and get fan as close to drown out. No space no table or counter, so tight if 3 people (2a 1k). Buy cold brew for frig cause no microwave. No wash cloths - so pack em. We are not the stay in room type and out 5-7am each day and it was great for that and we would stay again
- 5/5
Need to make a special mention about Hansel , very knowledgeable about the area and wiling to chat , let us keep our room as we had a late flight and it was much appreciated , great location close to public transport and restaurants , room was a bit small so not much room for two large suitcases but otherwise ideal for our short trip
- 4/5
A short stay in San Francisco as part of a longer trip
- 4/5
Good location
- 5/5
Excellent location for a very reasonable price. A bare bones little hotel, but fully met our basic needs. Given the ratio of value to location, i give it an overall “excellent” rating.
- 5/5
Looking forward to come back! Highly recommended
- 1/5
good location is about it. the rest is pretty bad. not very clean. Smelled. Loud. Window in my room was broken, and had been replaced with plexi-glass - no sound proofing. heat was not controlled. Very warm room.
- 2/5
Rooms were not nice. Cracks in walls, electric plugs don't work, dents in furniture. Homeless tent in alley behind the hotel and outside my window. Just not great.
- 1/5
When we arrived to check in the front door was locked and no staff was at the front desk. We had to sit parked on the busy street for 15 minutes trying to call and wait for someone to come back. Once we checked in our toilet didn’t work. It never worked during our one night stay and someone came to plunge it but said it wouldn’t unclog and never came back or offered another solution. We left and had to find a toilet for our kids to use. We would not recommend this property unless your standards are very low.
- 3/5
Found 1 bug but we smashed him and no more dared to show their faces.
- 2/5
Property was run down, unclean and felt unsafe. Hugely overpriced.
- 5/5
I liked everything about the property except for the higher temperature, but the fan was helpful! Also the people outside are not your fault.
- 5/5
It’s very nice, very clean, walking distance to a lot of places. And I felt very safe.

- 2/5
Rooms are too small

The receptionist was very nice. The elevator tones sounded like 1960s Star Trek. The beds were soft and the pillows were firm. The shower water pressure was not very strong but sufficient. A nice place.

- 5/5
Well jealous t older hotel continently located 2 blocks from the union square. Room was clean the queen size bed felt smaller, otherwise, great stay. Oh! The mini refrigerator in the room, big plus. I’m would return to this hotel again in the future.
- 5/5
The best low budget accommodation I’ve stayed in sf. Nice staff, allowed late checkout, great safe location. It’s not 5 star but it feels 5-star for the price.
- 4/5
nice place
- 5/5
Slightly dated (but clean and tidy) with such an excellent location and staff. Really enjoyed our stay.
- 3/5
Dirty hotel room. Not clean at all.
- 2/5
Location was pretty decent, and accessing the property was straight forward.
- 1/5
There were bedbugs at the hotel. Lots of homeless people outside the property bed did not have a fitted sheet on it. There were no blankets just one sheet. I would never recommend a family coming to this hotel.
- 4/5
Folks tend to turn their noses up and small cheap quaint hotels like this. Is it the Marriot or a Hilton? No, but the room was very clean and surprisingly big for what it was. Very clean and nice sink and bathroom combo with good storage if needed. Was very quiet (I came down for a music event that got out late) and the door staff was there to greet me and get me setup in my room at like 2am. I found parking right in front of the hotel. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.
- 3/5
Clean and neat but required a few maintenance jobs, bathroom door didn’t stay closed and paint peeling off the ceiling, but bed and amenities were good. If you just need a clean room for somewhere to stay this was great.
- 4/5
The property was close to the theater, which was great, but the streets of San Francisco are pretty noisy, not the hotel’s fault
- 3/5
It was good for the price! A bit smaller than I expected but no complaints there. My only complaint would be the parking garages. We asked about the “onsite” parking and could not find it so we had to settle for somewhere else near by. Might not be their fault! But still just really annoying to look for. Aside from that it was in a nice area! Lots of food around and loud music!
- 5/5
The hotel was great, the room was very nice and clean everyone was very professional. The only thing about the area were the the hotel is located. There are a lot of homeless people and the area is very derty. I know it's not the hotels problem. But this makes me not want to be out late , i got back at 9pm and did not want to go out and get food. Good thing that they have restrictions next door and a Jack in the box at the corner.
- 3/5
The hotel is small and old. It is fine enough when you are just essentially sleeping there, but overall not the nicest hotel. There are not amenities, no breakfast of any kind.
- 4/5
Original old hotel remodeled on Geary street close to union square. Very small bath closet, but functional. Late check in was easy. Room was quiet and safe.
- 4/5
It’s works for a day or two. Very very basic, elevator broken, small room, no amenities
- 4/5
Where were located, it was very easily to get around either walking, taking the train and riding the trolley car.
- 4/5
2 stars for staff
- 5/5
Fast check in
- 4/5
Hansel was great and helpful forna potential long term stay another time.
- 5/5
This isn't in union square, it's in the tenderloin, on the border. that said, it was a legit hotel.
- 3/5
The hotel is overall a good option if you’re not looking for an extended stay, as the room lacked air conditioning.
- 4/5
Hansel at the front desk was very helpful with directions and places to eat. The Holtel is old but the price and area was nice.
- 2/5
My room was located over an alley where very noisy construction was going on all night. i was reluctantly moved, but it was clear the staff knew. Also no washcloth or coffee maker
- 4/5
Having at least a free coffee in the morning would be better.
- 3/5
Clean bed. Windows thin. You can hear everything in the street that is going on.
- 2/5
No AC in entire hotel , had to sleep with fan
- 1/5
No a/c available on the room, room super duty
- 5/5
Very well kept, clean, good service and hospitality, rooms were great too with room service
- 5/5
Solid hotel. Solid room. Solid service.
- 5/5
Satisfy
- 3/5
Very noisy during the night. Working crews on the street not sound tight rooms.

Stayed from 3/25 to 3/30 2024. Room had mice and cockroaches. We called Expedia for help, they could not help us. I ask for refund and was told no refund. Rug and floor had a big hole in them. Window was very dangerous opens all the way down to floor almost and straight out , do not stay here if you have small children they can fall out of this window no screens. No grab bars in bathtub very slick and uneven. Room was wet the entire stay. Water running down windows, and we felt damp whole stay. They do NOT have washcloths. And they do not put clean towels in rooms, you must go down to front desk to ask for towels. There is no night person at desk so if you have emergency you are on your own. Beds so uncomfortable, and very small. My granddaughter and I are small people and almost couldn't fit in the bed. No latch on the door, light shows under the door and around the door at night so door doesn't fit well.. The ONLY good thing about this place was the day desk clerk he was amazing, and a joy to talk to and work with in whatever we needed. Hostels are near by, transportation is near by, Dave's Deli is just to the right of the front of the Front Door , it is a WONDERFUL place to eat. We didn't have a car so not sure about parking. The noise at night from the street 6 floors below us was pretty crazy, people screaming and playing horns, but we didn't mind that part. Expedia has never been so uncaring when I use them, but this time they didn't even care. Never again.
- 4/5
Property is in great location. No fan in my room. few doors down to an affordable housing.
- 1/5
Bad service
- 5/5
I stayed for a weekend with my girlfriend and we loved our stay. This is our favorite hotel in SF. It’s not the fanciest or anything but it gives home vibes. It’s comfortable, affordable, staff is friendly and it’s a good location. Many places to eat and drink are within walking distance. If you wanna really stay close in the city for a solid price this is a great option.
- 5/5
Excellent service. Clean, well maintained, and excellent location.
- 5/5
Amazing location just 3 minute walk to Union square but had construction all night but still able to sleep. The fan was broken and it was hot in the room we hesitated to leave the window open because of the construction noise but had to because it so got with the windows closed, but everything else was good
- 5/5
Located on Geary Street, one block away from Union Square and the Powell Street cable car. The Union Square Plaza Hotel is directly opposite 2 of San Francisco's historic live theatres, the Geary Theatre & and adjacent Curran Theatre. Although this part of downtown, known as the Tenderloin is not swanky, it does contain many exclusive shops on Union Square and its surrounding streets and also on Market Street. The big problem in 2023 is the homeless and drug addiction to be found in the area, but coming from a big city like London, England, it didn't faze me at all and I just tended to ignore my immediate surroundings when I exited the hotel. The hotel is over 100-years old, and is not luxurious, but it is homely and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I had a front room facing the street on the 7th floor and was not disturbed by the occasional noise on the street below (again I am used to it in London). The room was a nice size and clean. I enjoyed my 9 nights stay and would recommend the Union Square Plaza Hotel for its location and reasonable price for a city center hotel. It will certainly be my place to stay on future visits to San Francisco.
- 3/5
It’s what you expect from hotels in this area. i understand i get what i paid for, but my only gripe is room wasn’t high dusted very well. handful of people like me get bad allergies or asthma triggers in dusty rooms. other than dust, room is ok standard and good location to get around.
- 4/5
All good but security lax
- 4/5
There was no air conditioning so I opened the window and a loud machine became louder. However, there was a fan in the room. The room and hotel was convenient and relatively inexpensive for me. I recommend it for those reasons.
- 4/5
The property is not fancy, but if you just want a place to sleep it's fine and clean. It is right in the neighborhood where many tour companies begin their tours so is convenient in this manner. The only downside to the area is the very expensive cost of restaurants.
- 2/5
Stinky building with older furniture and loud noise around property, Gun shots heard at 3:00 am
- 5/5
Friendly welcoming. The parking is closeby..
- 3/5
I ended up checking out the same night I checked in.
- 3/5
Centrally located. Urban gritty surroundings. Although the overall vibe is a bit worn & threadbare- room was clean. I’ve stayed in small rooms but the bathroom was the tiniest ever. My tall husband couldn’t really sit in the toilet comfortably.
- 5/5
Don't let the bad reviews discourage you, if you're looking for a place near everything and are willing to have the occasional people screaming outside or car honking then this place is perfect for the price. I'm a heavy sleeper so the noise didn't bother me and I stayed for 3 nights and I had the street side room. Now it does get a little cold since the only thing to heat up the room is the radiator that only turns on at night but I prefer it chilly so it was perfect for me.

Easy check in and nice rooms. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Treated us like we were human unlike at so many lower cost hotels. Very nice right next to amazing shopping at Union square. The kids got scooters and had a blast while adults shopped.
- 5/5
I always stay there

Nice service
