Sonesta Essential Savannah

There was mold on the wall in the bathroom and it made the whole room smell like mold. We didn't realize it until we unpacked everything and opened the bathroom door. By that time we were too tired to ask for another room and move all our stuff. We just closed the bathroom door and got out of there fast the next morning.

Desk agent was rude upon check in. There was signs posted stating there was no early check-in and if early check-in was needed, an additional $50 charge would be added. When I went into the room, there was a wet towel behind the door shower glass door was extremely dirty and the phones did not work in the room. I switch rooms and the AC barely work and the property was not properly clean as the shower glass doors in that room was also dirty. My bed linens had stains on them but by this time I was tired and didn't bother to request another room change. It appears as though the property was renovated, but the renovations were subpar at best. The pictures on Expedia does not depict the physical property. I will never stay here again.

Bed slept good but the bathroom needs a remodel and breakfast 3/10 but needed other things to drink other than apple juice and milk!

I will never stay here again. I’m not sure how it received the ratings it did. It was smelly, I could be sure the sheets had been washed, and it is just months away from becoming a hazard, much less a place you want to stay.

I have stayed in hundreds of hotels over 30+ years, this ranks among the worst I’ve ever seen. I have no idea how people give this hotel good reviews. You are greeted with an extremely strong odor as soon as you walk into the door. The entire hotel and rooms are in desperate need of renovation - walls are being held together by duct tape and the shower, sink and toilet areas are moldy and disgusting. The rooms smell of a strong fragrance/odor used to cover up a bad smell - was unable to sleep all night long from this smell. The bed was uncomfortable, sofa was stained and towels were dirty. We did not shower at this hotel or even attempt to walk into the shower barefoot. Signs in the elevator state to not bring food to room because it “attracts pests” - horrible.. Do yourself a favor and do not stay here!!! The only positive I have to say is that the front desk person was nice.

Stayed here for 1 night to break up a long drive with family & dog. Room was very clean. Breakfast was good. Beds & pillows were comfy.

Loved everything

The room we had appeared to be updated nice furnishings and flooring. However the jacuzzi tub was not in the best condition the rest of the bathroom was nice. The breakfast unsatisfactory but guest for the price it was acceptable. Overall like the room accommodations the best. The breakfast options and quality of the food.

We loved everything about the property

The property was clean and comfortable! But my biggest compliment goes to the manager. We ran into issues with a broken down vehicle and had to stay an extra day. He was so very kind and helpful, making a stressful situation a little easier for us to handle. It was beyond just good customer service!

We got in super late, like 1:00am late. So super exhausted! Front desk was super nice. But when we walked into the room it smelled absolutely horrible!!! Smelled like cat pee. If we weren't so tired we would have left. But we didn't want the hassle of trying to get a refund or changing rooms/hotels so late at night.

The front desk personnel were fantastic. I had called earlier in the day asking for early check in. An individual called me back with a room already set aside for me. Wonderful customer service. The eggs at breakfast could use a little help.

The price was budget friendly and close enough to Savannah. The bathroom was not entirely clean and still had hairs from previous guests. Also the pumps for the soaps are loosely screwed into wall with a single screw so they fall out easily.

No carpet wow. Really nice room quiet (no street sounds) and comfortable bed and pillows. It’s rare. The breakfast buffet was perfect with something warm (eggs, meat, potatoes) and something cold (cereal, yogourt, apples). Waffles and different kind of bread. Coffee machine with many choices. Property is really clean. Applebee’s restaurant and Ruby Tuesday near (walkable 3 min)

An excellent value. The property was exactly as described, staff were quite pleasant and helpful. The breakfast buffet was well stocked with something for everyone. Eggs, sausage, potatoes, yogurt, self made waffles, cereals for both kids and adults, toast, bread, fruit, muffins and good coffee. A good all around property that shares the traveler's concern of value and quality. I will certainly use this property again in my frequent travels to Savanna. Easy to get to and not gridlocked in downtown parking and traffic. The amenities in the room including the soap, shampoo, conditioner etc is quite good and in pump containers which cuts down on plastic waste in the environment and saves money, a savings that is passed along to the guest as shown by the great value. My two key qualifications for a good hotel stay are a comfortable bed with good pillows and plenty of hot water. Both were had at this hotel. Everything was very good. The property itself doesn't have a full service restaurant, but there are several chain restaurants steps away, and others a short drive, and you can always go into the Savannah historic district in 10 or 15 minutes for an extensive dining selection.

Room smelled a bit musty and the AC SYSTEM definitely needed to be cleaned along with the bathroom. Bleach would be a great thing to use in the bathroom

Breakfast was great. Would be an excellent hotel, except: 1. Fan in the bathroom was very noisy, probably needs to replaced. 2. Several tiles in the shower need to be replaced (completely worn out). 3. This is minor but TV was the smallest I have seen in a hotel room recently. 4. No AC in the elevator. Minor inconvenience now, may be bad during the summer. With some maintenance the hotel would be great. Right now, 4/5.

The property and room just don’t quite cut it. Things were dirty but felt worn. The very odd decor wasn’t practical with poor lighting and lacking conveniences like hooks in the bathroom.

The hotel looked updated on the outside but the inside(rooms) needs work! VERY outdated. the paint /tiles were missing from our shower floor. The key card did not work everytime we left the room we had to get a new card. I GUESS its ok for the price but. Probably wouldnt stay again, or atleast for more than 1 night

I had a great stay this past weekend at the Sonesta in Savannah, Georgia, which is located just off the I-95. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and conveniently located. The staff was welcoming and professional, and the rooms were quiet and relaxing. A special thank you to the manager, Abhi Menon, who went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it for a comfortable stay.

When I checked into the room the bathroom shower floor had cracks in it. The stairwells had duct tape on there holding down the rubber that was on the floor. When we put our food down in the room we had roaches comes out and attack the food. I asked for a refund. He said I couldn't get a refund. I never checked into the hotel room. I would appreciate if someone can get in touch with me about this situation because it was terrible I had to move my stuff, relocate me and my wife to another safe area in Savannah, Georgia. Thanks

Marvelous staff, clean room and conveniently located

The Sonesta Essential Savannah is a lovely hotel. The staff are professional and friendly, the breakfast items are wide ranging, and the rooms are spacious. A bonus of staying at this hotel is the surrounding area that offers convenience galore in the form of restaurants and gas stations. This is the right hotel to lodge at whether one’s in town on business or for a family vacation.

Very comfy beds, nice large rooms, very friendly check in.

Room was clean, however sheets were very wribkled before I even laid on the bed. Appeared the sheets didnt fit well. In addition, towels ,bath size one had hole in it the other was very worn in part 9f the towel.

Staff was friendly, check in was easy, breakfast had plenty of options and room and very clean. A great one night stay. I will make this my go to hotel when staying in Savannah.

Hotel was immaculate and we were checked in quickly with a smile. Our room was spacious, immaculate and beds were very comfortable .free on site parking was easy and plentiful. The complimentary breakfast offered ready to make waffles, eggs, sausages , breakfast potatoes, lots if different breads, bagels, fresh fruit , yogurt, cereal and delicious coffee. The breakfast area was also immaculate. This is a wonderful hotel and an excellent value. We will definitely stay here again when in the area.

Hotel was beautiful and just like the pictures online. Check-in and check- out were both quick and easy. Abhi and his staff were all very gracious and we felt at home while there. My son will be going to college in Savannah so my visits from Florida will be at this hotel without question.

We had two rooms. The first the heat/ac didn’t work and we found someone’s shirt that was left. The second the key kept not working and we found a mango in the room. Yes a whole mango sitting on the window sill. The room was not very clean and needed some upkeep.

One of the employees card also did not worked After going to front desk several times as if it was something I signed up for, the owner said I had the card near my phone .When I told him that was not the case and I have never had this issue at other hotels, he said to me not come to the hotel again, so will not be going there again.

Unfortunately, the negative aspects outweighed the positives: The worst thing was that the room smelled terribly like cigarette smoke. I kindly asked the front desk person to please change us to a non-smoking room, especially considering we were traveling with small children including a baby, but he told me they were expecting high occupancy that night, so he offered me an air freshener spray. He said that the whole hotel is nonsmoking area. Well, their housekeeping staff didn´t report that room 222 has a strong cigarette smoke odor. In addition to that, the elevator seemed not well maintained (I noticed it when going up the first time), and guess what; the elevator wasn´t working the next day, forcing me to carry luggage, a stroller, and a baby down the stairs. The toilet had brownish water in it. The interior walls of the toilet were visibly dirty. A deep cleaning is pending to remove unwanted stains. The water dispenser at the breakfast area was broken, so there was no water during breakfast. No eggs, and few options to eat for breakfast. The hallways also did not appear clean. Overall, these deficiencies reflect a lack of basic standards one would reasonably expect from a Sonesta property. While I have had good experiences with Sonesta hotels in other countries, this was our first stay at a Sonesta in the USA, and it was a complete disappointment. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend it.

The hotel staff then stated that if I did not allow my driver’s license to be photocopied, I would not be allowed to check in, and that the reservation was non-refundable. Under pressure, and feeling that my privacy was not being respected, I chose not to stay at the hotel and instead booked another hotel.

This was my second stay at this location and I'll be returning. Great accommodations and service.

While the hotel looks nice from the outside the inside is rundown. It looks like they tried to cover up an old motel but did a bad job. If I could get a refund I would. The breakfast was also made to seem like it was top notch but was also lacking. Our toilet didn’t work, the room had water stains on the roof, and there was holes in the wall along with paint on the floor and other details lacking throughout the room.

The location is a good location to be in with several restaurants within walking distance. Check-in was quick and easy. Unfortunately after that things weren't all that great. The 1st room I was assigned had a horrible burning chemical smell from the heater and it immediately gave me a headache. The next room they places me in the heater didn't work and the water pressure in the shower was weak at nest. The toilet had a very slow flush. The lights in the room all wasn't working thus making the room dark. With a few fixea this place would be amazing.

Room was real dusty, as if nobody had been the room for a long time, every where. We told the reception guy who sent someone to wipe the surfaces, but he only wiped some of the surfaces with a white hand cloth. There was a kind if worm in the shower.

The mini fridge has an integrated freezer. Perfect for icing the icepacks or a small ice cream. The breakfast buffet was complete and delicious. I have to mention the service which was way beyond our expectations. Upon arrival our room and cards were ready, we had a warm welcome from the front desk agent. During the while stay they made sure we had everything we needed. Such a kind, positive and caring human. We’d stay again for sure!

Staff and service

Parking area was small but safe. Everything was very clean and customer service was exemplary. When our key card didn't work the gentleman at the front desk insisted on trying the new one himself to we didn't have to come down again if it didn't work. We will always stay here when we travel to Florida.

Love the updates to the property & rooms. I've been staying there (under their former name) since 2007. Although it's updated there's still room for improvement. Our room only had 1 bedside table, in the middle. You could see from the scratched paint on the walls where the ones on both sides of the bed had been removed. The shower door was still old & got stuck when you opened & closed it. You really had to work to get it to open. The air works fine in the lobby & room, but the halls on the floors still remain hot with a dank smell. You can see the vents along the length of the halls, but no air is circulating.

Great location, spacious rooms and good workspace for remote work. Tidy and clean. Appreciated the fridge and microwave. Ideal location near the I-95 and several restaurants within walking distance. Was a great stopover for the night enroute from FL to NC, would choose to stay there again.

Took 4 attempts to get a room that both AC and TV worked in. All previous staff had quit and people on property had only been there an hour. Felt bad for them.

Everything was great when I got there Habi greeted me with a big smile and he was very attentive throughout the whole time. As soon as I got there I accidentally locked myself out of the room after spilling my drink all over myself so I was hanging out in the hallway soaking wet and I had to walk down to the lobby to get some help and he was more than accommodating to get me back into my room as soon as possible. Another one of the employees helped me to the end after I had to look through the whole entire garbage can after accidentally throwing something away on my tray that I really needed and valued. I'm not usually such a wreck but I had a couple mishaps and the staff was over the top with the amount of help they gave me and the politeness with which they did it. The room was clean. The temperature in the room was great and also adjustable. Parking was easy. Located around a bunch of other stores. I would definitely stay there again.

Room: clean but very cheaply remodeled. Especially shower area. (Fresh paint on the bottom but none are updated. No where to hang towel) TV was not connected to Internet so we couldn't watch anything. If you see the room closely, you could tell not professionally remodeled. But overall, it was good.

The next morning when I went to turn my key in and check out early, the kid behind the desk simply said "you will not be getting a refund", without even asking how my stay was. Wow, ok, so much for hospitality. I was extremely offended that he assumed that's what I was going ask for. In truth, I was going to apologize for any inconvenience and thank them, as I was only making a quick stopover for a family funeral. There are at least 6-7 hotels/motels in this area and I would strongly suggest another one. I will never return here again.

There are many restaurants and stores near the parking lot is kind of small but had enough parking for everyone. The rooms stay very cold to the point of having to turn off the ac. Rooms are very clean

The hotel itself was very nice. The breakfast buffet was very good. Top notch for cleanliness. The room was spacious and very comfortable. A few repairs to the bathroom are necessary. The paint had peeled from the wall behind the door. The shower floor left a bit to be desired. They had painted it, and it too, was peeling. We didn't want to step in that area of the shower which surrounded the drain. Housekeeping needs to be better trained on how to clean a toilet. Overall, these repairs would not deter us from staying there again. We liked our room and the bed was very comfortable.

The room was cheesy, the TV stated there was a camera in the room... a very poor remodeling job.. the toilet didn't flush.... the air condition leaked. Strange people hanging outside.

When I first checked in there were shady people in the lobby but obviously they were guests just in the lobby. Not the problem. I got to my room and there was a roach on the desk. It ran behind the desk and I went to the bathroom and there was a bug in the bathtub. The tv was also stuck in Spanish. I went to the front desk and asked for another room and they were very nice and gave me one. You can tell the hotel is older and was remodeled. It wasn’t what I was expecting but the beds were comfortable!! Besides the roach it wasn’t too bad and there is a ihop, Applebees and bar on the same street in walking distance!

The property needs a serious refresh. There was mold and chipping paint on the shower floor. The furniture in the room was new and the mattress was comfortable, the layout was odd as the bed was pushed up against the room AC. The AC did work well. They did not have a record of our resevsftion, but eventually honored it after I showed proof. It seems that management is trying to improve things but they haven’t quite hit the mark.

The hotel was pretty nice for the price but you can hear every conversation on the floor due to thin walls, laminate floors and big gaps under the doors. Additionally, we had a squeeky bed and very noisy people right next to us until after midnight. It has a lot of potential but need to tighten up a bit.

At check in they never gave me my license back, partially my fault. Upon asking them to kindly mail it to me or figure something out, they rudely said no

I booked a room with 2 Queen beds for 3 person occupancy.The lady tried to give me a room with 1 King bed. I had to literally show her my reservation on my phone..One of the beds had hair on the linen... it was not ours, so that tells me the linen wasn't clean. The bathroom was dirty, dead bugs on the floor, the toilet wasn't clean, the toilet seat needed replacing. I slept in a chair, the other person slept on top of the bed ,& the 3rd person slept on the chaise. Luckily it was for 1 over night stay, we didn’t bother to shower. Absolutely Disgusting! At checkout, she had the netve to ask if we were eating breakfast. No, Thank you.

Arrived at check-in and they couldn’t find my reservation. She checked for 10 minutes or more and kept questioning me whether I was sure I made the reservation there, even though I had shown her the confirmation. She asked me to call Expedia and tell them she couldn’t find it and I was calling she magically found the confirmation. We went up to the room with all our bags only for a staff member to yell at us from the other side of the hallway to wait because the room wasn’t ready. We went back downstairs and they changed our room. We went up again and there was some kind of debris on the bedsheets. A roach egg casing behind the microwave. A live silverfish in the bathroom. The room was nothing like pictured. Just looked in poor condition. I will never stay here again. Even the breakfast was awful.

It was in very bad shape. The shower door was broken. The AC was also not working properly in that it had no temp sensor and you had to get up and turn it on and off each time for use.. All the towels had stains on them and the shampoo bottles they provided were essentially empty.. The breakfast was touted as a must have. I would have been better off sleeping in and avoiding the frozen food. Would not recommend even for the price.

Stayed here one night, passing through. The staff was rude at check in and seemed to gossip more than doing their job. The overall hotel was decent and the rooms are pretty big. The beds were uncomfortable and the shower felt gross. Would not recommend if you were vacationing in Savannah but if your passing through it’s convenient being right off of I-95.

When I raised my concerns with the front desk and asked for a refund, they were completely unhelpful and refused to work with me. I didn’t feel comfortable staying the night, but they still charged me the full amount. This was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Save your money and stay somewhere that actually delivers what it promises online.

I had booked thru Expedia. Upon arrival the front desk person TOLD me that there’s a $50 charge for my pets. There was no comments about an extra charge for pets. I could have stayed at a much better hotel with my pups for the rate of $150/night. I told the front desk that they will NEVER see me there again. In addition, the guests in the room above me made noise ALL night long. They were sliding furniture around, walking heavy footed among other things. I called the front desk to register my complaints with them at 9:30pm. I asked the mgmt to ask them to be quiet, especially after 10pm. This continued all night. FINALLY at 4 am I could take it no longer, I called and seem to have woken up the front desk person. I asked her again to call them room 311 above me and to ask them to stop this noise. After that I couldn’t go back to sleep and I still had nine hours of driving. I never even stopped for bfast/coffee in the morning. NOT GOING BACK to the motel on the drive back!

Hotels.com did not pay rooms and therefore checking took over an hour to call customer service to have the issue resolved. Bathroom, shower paint was coming off the floor no hooks for towels, coils in bed very noisy. Doors were very thin all night, ringing and dinging from elevator. Tiles in lobby were very slippery, couple of people slipped and fell. Breakfast was pretty bad., fruit was yucky, sausage and eggs were cold. The only thing good was the coffee machine.

Actually we never stayed here, we left. We arrived late and tired after driving 17 hours and were not given a room because the Expedia virtual charge was rejected, however my credit card was charged. The staff was unhelpful and couldn’t care less. Expedia put us in touch with a specialist that had us on hold for 45 minutes. We hung up and went next door to a best western that was brand new and lovely.

We were originally put in a room that I can't believe was even an option. I will let my photo speak for me. when I went to the front office to tell her I could not stay in that hotel she immediately asked what’s the problem. She act it as though they couldn’t possibly be an issue until I opened my camera and showed her the photos. Then all of a sudden she puts me in a room that is being constructed on first floor with tape in the bathroom and paint in the shower. But it was better than the first one. it just makes me wonder why would she even put us in that room in the first place?

I stayed at your hotel on 6/22/2025. At the time I checked in, I was required to put a $100 deposit up, which I was told would be returned in 8-10 business days. It is now 7/11/2025, and it has yet to be returned. I called the hotel first at 7:30 AM CST, a woman answered, took my information and told me she would call me back in 30 minutes. This did not happen, so I called back at 12:54 PM, she took all my information, acted like she didn't speak to me earlier and said she was busy and couldn't find the reservation and needed to ask someone else, but she would call me back that day. Still no call back, so I called AGAIN at 4:10 PM, this time she was rude (and so was I) and she told me has already told me she can't find my reservation and she is busy. This is an appropriate way to speak to or treat a customer, nor is it an appropriate answer. I am also a busy person, and I patronized your hotel. Your hotel collected $100 from me, which should be returned.

The room wasn’t bad but you could hear people talking and yelling in the hallway and some strange guy was beating on our door in the middle of the night and when my boyfriend opened the door he ran away!! Very creepy

The hotel was OK for a one night rush stand. The beds were clean but the room and the breakfast area were not.

Really loud, sounds in hallway echoed into our room. Mostly clean but shower needed to be repainted. Nice tv, only one lamp but a couple overhead lights as well. Towels weren't great. Overall average experience.

I chose this hotel because of the good reviews from Hotels.com. Thankfully we were only there for one night and I will not be returning to any property owned by this chain. Not kid friendly! Missing tile in the shower. The AC unit in the room had a broken metal piece sticking out.

I read all the reviews prior to booking. I’m glad I booked. The room itself was very appealing; modern, nice lighting, & comfy beds! The breakfast had eggs, sausage, waffles, bagels, cream cheese, cereal, coffee, apple juice, & a few other things. Definitely go early to avoid the crowd. The only thing that would top off this hotel is a pool! The ac’s in the rooms work extremely well! I LOVED the bathroom mirror! I highly recommend this hotel.

The layout of the room was a little off but that’s not a big deal. The shower needed some TLC. The biggest issue is we weren’t told breakfast ends at 9:00am. We arrived late for our stay so thought we had until 10:00am. That was a big let down because that’s a big reason we chose this hotel. The staff was friendly but if you stay, just know breakfast ends earlier than most hotels.

I was there on business contracted for a construction crew doing road work in Savannah.. I take care of payroll and we had issue with our accounting firm so i was distributing checks to employees. I had them cone to hotel to pick up and how about the lady at the desk told my employee he coukd not come upso my employee calls me and tells me what she said she gets on the phone and says what about your husband???? #1 none if her businesss #2 im not married #3 he was employee. I feel she was way ot of line and it made my employee and I very uncomfortable so I checked out next day

The area was so accessible from I-95; area was quiet and safe; mattress was fluffy and comfy -take it from someone who has back issues! Pillows were comfy too! Usha was an amazing hostess! She even had Hospitality locate my lost earbud!!! TU for everything!

My husband & I stayed here for our 3 year wedding anniversary trip. Check in was very easy, and staff was very nice & welcoming. We got up to our room and it was HUGE. Very spacious, even had a couch and coffe table. The A.C. was ice cold, and they had black our curtains. We stayed on the 3rd floor. It was really quiet the whole time we were there. Breakfast was free and provided downstairs. It was alao quite nice. Could use a few very small upgrades or touch ups but we defintely don't have any complaints. The hotel was very clean, the room was also very clean and nice. 10/10 highly recommend. We were very impressed. We will defintely be back. :)
