Reviews
The Blackburn Inn is a historic hotel with unique character and charm, appreciated by many guests. However, some guests have experienced issues with noise, room size, and cleanliness.
- Unique historic character and charm
- Comfortable beds and clean rooms
- Noise from floors and neighboring rooms
- Room size and layout issues

Short visit but the property was well maintained. Front desk staff very friendly. Rooms were clean - some larger than other but all amenities needed were available.
- 5/5
Great experience. Staff was super helpful.
- 5/5
We had an issue finding a room that was available but Gwen was extremely motivated to find me a room. The room was comfortable with a nice sized bath. Perfect for a single traveler. I also had breakfast which was delicious. The grounds are beautifully kept and great for a morning walk.
- 5/5
The facility and grounds were lovely/interesting though the current construction projects limited access.
- 3/5
Very clean, well maintained, bed was nice and comfortable, but not a lot to do, rooms were small, not much storage, kind of cold feeling, 1st floor felt like a dungeon, parking and registration were a haul, not sure we would stay there again.
- 5/5
Room did not have iron, but it arrived within 60 seconds of my calling housekeeping. We booked two rooms. One did not have any towels, the other had coffee pot and pods, but no cups, creamer or sugar. Not a deal braker, and they addressed issues quickly. We would definitely stay again. Very close to adorable town with shops, restaurants and weekend music.
- 4.5/5
The thermostat was a little difficult to figure out.
- 3/5
I feel like the bedrooms are small and crowded with furniture.
- 5/5
Wow! Photos don't do it justice. Absolutely beautiful hotel, brilliantly restored. Loved the fact there were original flagstones in my room. View from the cupola is superb. My room was perfect for a single traveller, great price. 10 minute walk to downtown Staunton. Special kudos to the kindly gentleman who was very patient with my questions about the staircase and the renovation! Honestly couldn't recommend more Absolutely nothing
- 5/5
This property is amazing, truly beautiful inside and out. Very clean and friendly staff. Gwen was exceptionally helpful as our room did not include any sugar or cream with our coffee. She went out of her way to locate some for us, eventually just going into the Bistro to find some fresh milk and sugar for me, she even brought us some mugs. So kind! I was however extremely disappointed to learn there were no pastries like the website showed. I was truly looking forward to those BUT I would definitely not let that stop me from going back. I do believe they could do a better job in the Bistro area, the chef was trying his best with the limits he had. The cupola was beautiful, being so close to historic downtown Staunton was wonderful. We were celebrating our 21st anniversary and I am very pleased that I chose this place for such a special day!
- 5/5
I loved everything about the INN. From the heritage and just imagining who would have passed through the old doors and walked the floors.
- 4/5
TVs great, but very difficult to find channels because guide does not match on paper or on screen and the two tvs are different also. Glass doors in hallways help with noise. AC great. But, I was awakened and only got about 5 hrs sleep second night because very loud guests, 1 male and 1 female, came in at 1:15-1:30 am and did not quiet down quickly. I also was very disappointed by the pet policy—my std poodle was very good, but not being able to leave him in the room, and not knowing that until I checked in, was very difficult. I would not stay here again with a pet. Also, it was the first time I visited this property (large property)and would have loved to have had front desk staff point out some of the things I should see. Never did see any restaurants or anything else. Was directed to parking and side door after asking a question. Nicest staff member was young woman who brought me 2 bandaids when I got a small skin tear Wed. night (5/20) after shower. Told front desk checking out bathroom needs touch up paint on windowsill.
- 4/5
Very clean and beautiful hotel. We booked a smaller room, I’d recommend a larger room or at least one with a chair, however; the common rooms are fantastic and there are plenty of places to sit around the hotel. It is very convenient to town, hiking, shopping and eating. Staff is friendly. We had an issue with the temp gauge in our room and were accommodated very quickly.
- 5/5
Easy check in although it would have been nice if there were signs at the entry to the overall property that made it easier to figure out which building was the hotel itself. Parking is on the side of the building with an entry that lets you go up a limited number of stairs and walk down the hall to got the elevator for the second floor check-in. This is a historic property with relatively small rooms but a nice size bathroom and a good size foyer that had the coffee service etc for each
- 5/5
Really nicely remodeled/restored place. Huge room.
- 3.5/5
Check in was efficient and timely. Staff was very courteous and informative. The fitness facility needs a major upgrade. It's reminiscent of an old hotel gym. Some of the equipment does not function correctly.
- 5/5
The breakfast was delish, the fresh fruit cup was a hit, we went back a second time. The room was clean. The staff was friendly. Love the history and charm of the place.
- 5/5
Within walking distance to shops and restaurants
- 5/5
A little disappointed that the bar was not open during the evening while we were there.
- 3/5
We were told that breakfast was not included. I am not sure why I got the idea that we were supposed to have breakfast available, perhaps I read in reviews. Our family of 5 had 3 rooms in the basement! AC was not working at check in. Rooms were tiny with cement unfinished-looking floors. There were no tables/chairs in our rooms. My room was noisy - I could hear others use the bathroom. To my horror, around midnight guests down the hall made terrible noises during what appeared to be intimate encounter - I am mortified. I found the experience mediocre. I will not return to this hotel.
- 5/5
The renovations were well done while preserving the historical significance of the building. The 4th floor cupola offered beautiful 360 degree views of the surrounding area. Breakfast was not included in our booking - but the small & quaint bistro onsite called Second Draft offered really yummy breakfast options. We'll be back again!
- 5/5
It's an old building so it's creaky in the hallways. It didn't take away from our experience and we did not notice any noise when we were sleeping.
- 5/5
No breakfast bar - but there is a restaurant
- 5/5
The was a super cool place to stay! Lots of character, history, and charm! The staff was very friendly and attentive and the bed was comfortable! I slept really well and look forward to staying here again!
- 2/5
Upon check in we explained to the front desk clerk very clearly that we had two reservations and specifically asked that she put us in a room that we could stay in for the duration of our stay because we didn’t want to have to change rooms. She sent us to our room after assuring us we could stay in our room for two nights. She was unsuccessful at doing this and we had to interrupt our visit with our friends to return to the hotel to change rooms. This was disruptive and annoying but what was worse was how rude the employees were that we talked with. One actually hung up on me. Not once did they apologize and accept responsibility for their mistake. Had they apologized and maybe offered us a coffee and croissant or something it would’ve been better received. They seem to not value their Expedia guests. They kept blaming the situation on me for booking through a 3rd party. I will never stay at this hotel again. It’s poorly renovated. The floors were dirty and I kept bumping into the corners of the hard oversized bed frame. Our room was also below ground level with an air conditioning system to look out at. There are better places to stay in Staunton with more courteous employees. Never again.
- 5/5
Pillows are small
- 5/5
There is adequate room to move around and the showers are great
- 5/5
Beautiful inside and outside. A historic gem. Convenient location to Skyline Drive. Looking forward to our next visit.
- 5/5
We had a great stay
- 4/5
The bathroom was missing shampoo & hand soap, not sure what else, but otherwise everything was fine
- 5/5
Great historical property! Friendly staff, very clean rooms!
- 5/5
Had an unexpected stop in Staunton, VA due to tire problems… booked the Blackburn Inn last minute to stay over and get van new tires. Pulled up and thought we were at wrong place. A beautiful historic colonial building looked like a college campus but was the Blackburn Inn. I researched and found out it used to be a hospital built in 1800’s. Very clean, well maintained and restored. The front desk allowed me to keep my room till noon on checkout while waiting for van repair. Only disappointment was the on site bar/ grill is seasonal and we had to go elsewhere for bite to eat. Excellent find… thanks Expedia and Blackburn Inn
- 5/5
Great value for a comfortable stay.
- 5/5
Loved it. A hidden gem. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Great breakfast options
- 4.5/5
Room 100 was great. Sitting on the front porch is relaxing.
- 5/5
The rooms are cozy and they capture the history of the building. There was so much character everywhere you looked.
- 5/5
I had a wonderful breakfast with my son on the balcony; we lingered long and the staff was completely relaxed about our extended time. I appreciated that greatly, as our converstion was quite an important one.
- 5/5
This is a very unique and beautiful place. Everything has atmosphere. I'll be back.
- 5/5
Unique experience. Wished we could have stayed longer
- 5/5
Super cool hotel. Beautiful grounds and really neat history behind it!
- 4/5
Room was nice and spacious. Good location for walking downtown. Bathroom could have been cleaner.
- 5/5
Beautiful, historic property. Well maintained and well staffed. We were only there for a quick overnight stay, but IO would come back and spend more time here. Loved ot!
- 5/5
Clean room with high ceilings. Air conditioner kept the room at a good temperature.
- 5/5
No complaints. Amber was great!
- 5/5
Beautiful historic property. Gorgeous rehab. Wonderfully comfortable rooms with large bathroom. Great breakfast place. Had everything we come to look for in a great hotel.
- 5/5
Clean Room.
- 4.5/5
Lovely architecture and beautiful grounds.
- 5/5
It was wonderful
- 5/5
Great place. Love every time I stay there.
- 5/5
Wonderful view of Staunton from the top of the spiral staircase and haunted backstory to complement the easy walking access to downtown and comfortable rooms.
- 4/5
Beautiful building and grounds. The rooms were very clean but showed some wear. I really didn’t see staff more than three times during my three day stay. Each time it was one person only.
- 4/5
Access was actually quite good, but time consuming. Similarly, breakfast was excellent, but a bit slow -- only because it was cooked to order.
- 3/5
The property was nice. The location to downtown Staunton is perfect because it’s walkable. One particular front desk person seemed very annoyed by questions/problems during our stay (Keurig in our room was broken and I went to the front desk to let her know and we needed a restock of some things in our room). One evening in particular she was not very nice to someone in our party. So that person was a bit of a downer to our trip.
- 5/5
Friendly staff and the ambiance.
- 5/5
Very clean. Pretty cool … it still has the original doors to the rooms. Maybe 80 years old. They do have electronic keyed handles.
- 5/5
We stayed in a suite.
- 5/5
Beautiful place that is very nicely decorated and remodeled but still kept the historic feel! I would highly recommend staying here!!!
- 3/5
The room had dust bunnies coating the 4 inch baseboards. The bathroom had clumps of someone else's hair on the floor. We had two towels for 4 days and 3 nights with no housekeeping service (which they state in the elevator that they do not offer if you stay for 3 or fewer nights). The kitchen was out of the food and beverages that we ordered for breakfast. There Is little to no noise barrier between floors. Do not stay on the 100 level floor. You hear every footstep, roll in the bed, shuffle, etc. to the point where it would shock you awake because of the sheer volume. Our upstairs neighbors were up at 6:00 a.m. daily, so we were as well. There is no ignoring it.
- 4/5
interesting building complex, fascinating history. And the price was right...
- 5/5
Cool place to stay!
- 5/5
awesome place, lots of history, clean room, nice staff.
- 5/5
beautifully refurbished 19th century hospital and grounds, located very close to downtown Staunton. Our room was simple and clean. Will return to see more of historic town next time we drive to northern Virginia
- 5/5
They charged my card even though I paid through booking. Com
- 4.5/5
Love the building and the grounds are great for walking my dog. It is just a short walk into the center of town
- 4.5/5
The bed was very comfortable. The shower had good pressure. The place is unique.
- 4/5
N/A Well thought-out rooms. History of the building and grounds.
- 5/5
Wonderful!
- 5/5
The room was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was roomy and had everything I needed.
- 4/5
Very clean Nice dark blinds 2 TVs are nice Mobile check in and out was great Ascension to heaven is a nice feature Not as scary as you might think
- 5/5
Everything was great. Love the building and history that comes with it. And its super clean.
- 5/5
Room was too warm at night. Could not adjust temperature.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, quiet, clean. I would (will) easily stay at the Blackburn Inn again. Lovely grounds as well, making walking my dog pleasurable.
- 3/5
There was a mouse in our room. Additionally, they could use an update to their ancient TVs Any modern tv allows streaming ; but I these are too old and have a very clunky channel changing os Otherwise the stay was nice
- 5/5
Squeaky hotel but guest services made it worth the trip!
- 4/5
Beautiful property. Nice check in clerk No bfast included the floor was not very appealing, the pet fee was expensive! My dog weighs 2 lbs I think pet fees should go in accordance to the size of the pet.
- 3/5
The staff was nice. Construction noise (banging of plywood against the adjacent structure) kept us up all night, we had to switch rooms at 3am and it wasn't much better. The room we were moved to felt smaller and was right across the from the main entrance so were were kept up by late guests and staff talking/laughing in the main hallway and still, a bit of the banging noise. We got a comped breakfast for our sleepless night. Not really satisfied with that, but I was tired and wanted to try to get back to aleep
- 5/5
Cool building and area. Clean and quiet.
- 4/5
The room was well appointed.
- 5/5
Very cool old Inn with an interesting history. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Loved the room!
- 5/5
Lovely hotel, very clean and cozy. We enjoyed our stay. The old pine floors can be a bit loud when you walk around the room but seems that is part of the history of the hotel.
- 2/5
Two stays this week and both times i was met with a frigid 60 tenp room and no ability to adjust. Had to call for help both tines. 2nd stay, the phone in room was not operabke. I put my arrival time on reservation, might be nice to have 68 temp going upon arrival.
- 2/5
At this price point, I would have just stayed at a "lower end" hotel.
- 5/5
Lovely.
- 5/5
Nice room, loved the bathroom and tub!
- 4/5
Thought check in was at 3 which is pretty standard. There were literally 4 cars in the parking lot but still would not let me check in til 4. Had a basement room. Room itself was nice. Down side: Could hear the glass door bang open and close every time. Upside: Beautiful facility and was fun to wander although was bummed the bar wasn't open (I came on a weekday). Did get the breakfast and was very impressed. Also had an issue at checkout. My key stopped working while I was loading my car. Had to go to front desk twice. She finally just came with me with the master key. But overall I would stay again.
- 4/5
Lovely.
- 4/5
Clean room and friendly staff. We discovered that we like the rooms on the first floor better than the ones on the second floor.
- 3/5
It's not ok to have your website state that you have a restaurant and bar only to find upon check-in that it is closed. Also, we were not able to regulate the heat in our room.
- 5/5
Spotless
- 5/5
Perfection. Absolutely one of the best stays ive had in a long time. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Amazing staff!!
- 3/5
People can see right into room, because blinds cant be lowered. The room had alot dirt build up under stuff. Historical was intresting.
- 5/5
Sage is a ray of sunshine. We love how each room is just a little different. The building is beautiful! And every shower we have had has been divine. This is our stop every time we go from PA to SC for family visits. I’m just about to make another reservation…
- 5/5
Room was spotless, the bed was comfortable and the rain shower was a bonus
- 5/5
The place, the room, it was wonderful and I hope we can return.
- 4/5
Great experience!
- 5/5
Excellent overall!
- 1/5
Management approved a date change and then did not follow through with it, forcing me to pay the price of two nights having only stayed one. I alerted the hotel and expedia in a timely manner and was approved by both expedia and the hotel only to find out later the hotel had changed their minds. Highly disappointed. I feel taken advantage of and the hotel itself has lost the charm that made me adore it. I will not stay again.
- 4/5
Staff was very helpful, room was very clean. Grounds are beautiful, just sorry it was so cold and we could not enjoy them. Would definitely stay here again.
- 3/5
Staff shortages. Breakfast lousy. Noisy
- 2/5
Did not eat breakfast…room was entirely too small…charged twice as much as original rate when I booked in September. The price which I booked was not honored. When I protested I was told that I was being charged their normal rate but rates changed all the time. This was our first and last time to stay there!
- 5/5
Large comfortable room, nice bed, clean bathroom, pet friendly
- 4/5
We loved the historical feel, but the rooms themselves were dated and sparse. Coffee and water would have been nice in the lobby… we did not try the restaurant. The gym was in a separate building a short hike up hill, but a good warm-up. Having to sign out for a key was a little cumbersome, but the gym was adequate for a small hotel.
- 5/5
Such a cool place. Driving up at night was amazing and the staff were so kind!
- 5/5
Great stay! A wee cold in room.
- 4/5
The room is what we expected for an awesomeness restored building.
- 5/5
We'll be back
- 4/5
Very clean, staff ok, must have had communication issue as room wasnt cleaned during the day, night manager was accommodating and provided new towels and coffee
- 4/5
Staff (check in, restaurant) exceeded expectations. Awesome bath but felt furnishings/room were cold.
- 4/5
Nice, but never been to a hotel without hangers for clothing and no fresh towels unless requested.
- 4/5
Property was very clean with lots of space to enjoy outside of the hotel room which was nice because the rooms were quite small.
- 5/5
I’ve stayed at the Blackburn many times now. Each and every visit has been peaceful and amazing. The rooms are always impeccable, the staff is always friendly and helpful, and the surrounding area is beautiful.
- 5/5
The property is beautiful
- 4/5
Lovely property , but we only spent one night so can’t offer much.
- 4/5
A unique experience with a fabulous massage. I would recommend.
- 5/5
What a gem. A beautiful historic building close to downtown shopping & dining and loved my room’s high ceiling & wood floors. Great wi fi connection. Very quiet!
- 5/5
We loved the history of this historical building. The properties entire staffs was friendly and helpful. We will be returning.
- 4/5
The staff was very helpful & very nice. The waiter at breakfast gave us the history of the hotel that was very interesting.
- 4/5
Check-in was easy but clerk was not overly helpful. The hotel is very nice, our room was comfortable but very small. The shower water leaked through the door causing water to pool on the floor. Although my hubby tried to clean it up, I slid and fell on the floor. Luckily I caught myself so didn’t get hurt
- 5/5
Awesome experience
- 5/5
The Blackburn Inn is a very unique inn and one I would highly recommend.
- 4/5
Overall, the hotel was beautiful, rooms were modern and clean. Pillows however were not very comfortable and somewhat small. Hotel grounds were the best part of our visit.
- 5/5
nice place walkable to downtown
- 5/5
Loved this hotel. It was close to downtown area. Very clean and friendly staff. Will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Beautiful place.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff. Very clean and quiet. Interesting history of the property.
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Older vintage feeling. Very comforting.
- 5/5
Ideal stay - wish I’d stayed longer than one night
- 5/5
Loved the hotel, very beautiful. The only thing I would change is a call button for the cross walk in front of the hotel.
- 5/5
I love this place. It’s our second time staying. I only wish doggy’s could be in the room I dream of with the nice big tub! 🙏
- 3/5
The suite pictured on the website has two rooms. The one we were allocated had only one. The elevator only goes to the third floor, so if you are on the foirth- as we were - you are left to drag your luggage up a long flight of stairs. The room was tidy but the bathroom smelled of urine. The walls were thin, so you could hear everyone coming and going. To use the gum, you have to sign out a key and hike uphill to a different building.
- 5/5
The room and hotel were well maintained with modern features. Great shower and a/c. Staff were great. Jim showed us around. Very comfy bed. We'll definitely come back!
- 5/5
Everything was great !!
- 5/5
My beautiful bride Tressa and I spent two nights at the Blackburn Inn. It was our second visit to this lovely hotel. Both times we had travelled from Virginia Beach to Staunton to enjoy the 3-hour train excursion operated by Virginia Scenic Railway. I wanted to share what wonderful service we received from both Amber White, your front desk supervisor, and Devin, one of the wonderful housekeepers. Both of these young ladies went out of their way to make our stay a wonderful experience. Because of my wife's medical issues, I had made a few special requests during our stay. Both Amber and Devin were so pleasant and attentive to us, it made us feel very special. I won't bore you with specifics, but suffice it to say that these two ladies are incredible representatives of both the hotel management and the Blackburn Inn. It is because of them that we will continue to come back to this beautiful property for our future visits to Staunton.
- 4/5
We loved the property and thought the room was very nice. The contactless check-in and check-out process was smooth and convenient. However, we didn’t love that we had to download a separate app just to access the room key—especially for a one-time stay. Our digital key also stopped working an hour before checkout, which was frustrating as we were loading up the car. Thankfully, a staff member was able to help us get back in. Overall, it’s a beautiful place and we’d still recommend it, just with a heads-up about the app.
- 5/5
Fun place to stay. Very comfortable but don't expect the normal room layout. If creaking floors bother you, ask for a room on the highest floor. The building is old with original flooring. That said, the little restaurant is superb. The cook is great and as she is the wait staff so is the staffing. There are places to sit and read or look out the windows at the views. The campus is quite lovely. It's history will interest many.
- 5/5
Great bed and convenient location
- 5/5
Lovely hotel great staff!!!
- 5/5
This hotel is beautiful and lovingly preserved. Every staff member we met was friendly and went out of their way to answer questions, especially about the building’s history. Breakfast at the Second Draft was perfect (get the iced collagen coffee!) and we really enjoyed the spa. The historical walls are literally a foot thick, so you can’t hear a peep from adjacent guests’ rooms. There’s even an art gallery on the third floor. Can’t wait to visit again!
- 5/5
magnificent architecture
- 5/5
The hotel is beautiful in a large estate-like property so it is very grand. The area is quiet but close to the town. You can walk to town (about 12 minute walk). The room was small (we got the classic room) but comfortable since we didn't spent much time there as we were in town most of the day. I would stay there again. It has great history.
- 5/5
I love this facility. History, convenience, and class.
- 5/5
Visited for one night with family. Hotel was beautiful, room was spacious and clean. Had breakfast at their cafe and it was delicious. Staff were very friendly and helped in recommending places to eat for dinner.
- 5/5
Beautiful location. And I loved the Old Town.
- 2/5
The room was awful. Located in the basement with windows overlooking an alley. Cement floors with no covering. Tiny space. Ten inches on one side of the bed to the wall. No chair because there was no room. Ill fitting sheets that were not even tucked under the mattress. Restaurant not open for lunch or dinner and nothing within walking distance. I would never book this hotel again
- 5/5
Such a special property. They did a wonderful renovation with a great balance of historical and modern conveniences. Loves our stay!
- 5/5
Such a beautiful hotel! And the staff we encountered were super friendly and answered all our probing questions! Thank you Brooklyn, AnnaMaria, and the other ladies at the front desk! Very convenient, just a short walk to everything in town! Highly recommend staying here!
- 3/5
I have no idea why they call the Blackburn Inn an “inn.” My room was ok and the property is nice and conveniently near Staunton. But the establishment is large and impersonal with few staff in evidence. You might as well stay at a Holiday Inn.
- 4/5
Nice, quaint property. Hardwood floors and nice view. Only concern is that there are some rooms on the 4th floor which isn't accessible via the elevator.
- 5/5
The only complaint I have, which is super minor and obviously due to the age, is that some flooring and other surfaces are super worn. Realistically you're fine to walk around bare foot, there's just some uneven spots and the super unlikely chance you may get a splinter or hit a nail sticking up.
- 5/5
Nice hotel!
- 5/5
Our 2nd visit and we love it!! Clean and modern within walking distance of great dining!!
- 1/5
Woof.
- 5/5
Property is well maintained while retaining the colonial charm. Room was large and the bathroom was remodeled and lovely. This was our first time here. We will return. Very easy on /off to interstate also.
- 2/5
Very noisy. While old wooden floors maybe charming they are very loud. Little or no insulation between floors resulted in hear every noise from room above. Shower floor had two dead bugs and overhead bedroom light had cobwebs. Location is a distance from highway and town has limited amenities.
- 5/5
I would love to have more time to walk on the grounds by the fountains.
- 5/5
We had a wonderful stay. Thank you.
- 5/5
Only one criticism, and it might have been isolated to my room (107). When the overhead light in the sleeping area was off, the switches for the bathroom wouldn’t work. Those lights would only come on if the overhead was also on. Was this a quirk to my room or by design?
- 5/5
I travel quite a bit and usually stay at corporate run properties. This was a boutique hotel which is far better. Property and hotel are immaculate. Very well decorated and kept.
- 5/5
Calm and relaxing place to stay. The floor creaking was the only possible negative but expected from locations history.
- 5/5
Amber was great and really took care of us.
- 5/5
Beautifully maintained
- 5/5
Beautifully restored property. Friendly and helpful staff. Other buildings are being restored so it would be excellent to have bistro or gastro pub on the property. Would definitely visit again if they ever do
- 5/5
Beautiful old place, very historic yet relaxing and welcoming.
- 5/5
Very interesting history to this Inn, it will appeal to some folks just for that reason, but it is lovely, clean and modernized. Beautiful setting in Staunton and within walking distance of downtown and restaurants.
- 5/5
Na
- 5/5
- great renovation
- 5/5
We are caretakers for my daddy and my brother is a pastor near the Blackburn. He provides a respite weekend every Easter so was our second stay here. Everything was wonderful - friendly staff, beautiful setting, and clean room! It's a great place to just get away from the stress of living 🙂 I highly recommend!
- 4/5
Interesting experience
- 5/5
A gorgeous amazing property! Check in and out was easy! Walkable to downtown. Cute rooftop view.
- 3/5
if you are nostalgic for old architecture and you don't mind squeaky floors and stairs then is a great place to stay to explore the area for a weekend.
- 4/5
Interesting unique historical setting. Our room was spacious and comfortable and quiet. Just a walk or short ride to downtown restaurants and shops, Shakespeare playhouse, etc. We were disappointed that bistro/bar onsite wasn't open.
- 5/5
Nicely restored with old building charm and squeaky floors.

Our first room had bad AC and never cooled off. The evening attendant was great about looking into the problem and giving us a fan to try out before we ended up in a new room.

Beautiful historic building in a great location, close to downtown shops and restaurants! Very comfortable bed too!

Beautiful property! But you need smart tv s

I didn't like the requests for eary online checkin and asked to download an app to use as a key. Hotel are meant to hospitiable. This felt too impersonal.

This property is amazing! My wife and I wanted a place to get away with a downtown that is walkable for shopping, dining and drinks Staunton is great. The staff at Blackburn is the best, especially Amber! Live the history of this resort and we can’t wait until more of the renovations are complete. Will definitely be back!

The facility was marvelous, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable. I enjoyed the reading room, which had very comfortable seating. The grounds are wonderful, and the view from the tower is amazing. The town of Staunton is so full of history and beautiful architecture.

It was great. The clerk at the reception desk, Kevin, was very knowledgeable about the property's history and very helpful with restaurant suggestions.

Excellent customer service and hospitality skills. The room is a good place to sleep. Great bathroom experience. Overall you will enjoy your stay. If you want a bigger room, pay a little more for it, but even the cheaper rooms are a great place to stay the night.

Thin walls. Other than that perfect.

Loved the spiral stairway leading up stairs and the staff were very helpful and accommodating.

This was our 4th stay at The Blackburn Inn and Conference Centre in Staunton, VA. We always make it a point to stay at this property when traveling on I-81 down South. Just walking about the front steps is very impressive and the rich history becomes palpable. The property grounds are beautiful. The hotel is steps away from restaurants, antique stores and shopping in the quaint and funky historic district of Staunton. The hotel staff is very kind and friendly and eager to make your stay super enjoyable. The rooms and colour schemes are beautiful, serene and calming with modern amenities. We loved the rain shower. The interior of the hotel shows its rich history with many of the original features left intact. The spiral staircase to the cupola is especially impressive. We loved the walking distance to town. Overall, this is a very unique and amazing property and we will continue to come here whenever possible. Highly recommended.

I loved the history behind the hotel, the staff members were great, and the architecture is beautiful.

The stay was wonderful. Good, friendly service. The only thing that would have made the stay better was if there had been at least 4 towels and wash clothes in the bathroom.

This is a one-of-a-kind historic beautiful hotel. We have stayed there before and made sure that we could stay again on our route down South. Just coming up the main driveway is hugely impressive and you see the splendour of this property, especially when illuminated at night. The staff at check-in was very friendly, personable and helpful and made us feel welcome. The room was clean, spacious and well appointed. The location is great, within a short walk to historic and quaint downtown Staunton with its beautiful shops and plenty of restaurants. All staff we talked to was super nice. It was quiet and relaxing. The architecture is nothing short of amazing, just look at the spiral staircase. We would definitely stay there again. Highly recommended and very special experience.

We booked through Hotels.com and upon arrival realized we had been booked in a handicap room with a very sad shower. As we went to check on a reservation for later they ask about our room and ask if we would like to switch rooms. We said that would be great. We were charged $33 more for a much..much smaller room. We had to turn sideways to pass in the hall between the coffee pot and the bathroom. We were not happy as they were not full.

Unfortunately, during this stay the breakfast and the staff preparing and serving it were far below the standard for the rest of the hotel. The breakfast area was very cold, the french press coffee was made with the wrong grounds and was full of sludge, the kitchen did not have any lighter fare except toast that was served cold with rock hard butter and only one option for jam while the signature dish was missing mushrooms, a key ingredient; and service took almost 45 minutes. For the rest of the arts of the stay, the hotel was great as usual and we will come back, but we will get breakfast out, as we did on our second morning.

We were not a fan of the creaky hardwood floors, but not a deal breaker. But you must climb the spiral staircase and go out on the observatory. Breath taking☺️

Didn’t know this was an old Insane Asylum. Doors are prison like. Actually pretty creepy place. Hallways reminded me of The Shining. It’s clean but the history was a bit much for my taste.

Very nice, but a little spooky. I did not realize that this used to be a mental hospital, so that’s on me. Very clean, and it’s gorgeous keeping the historical brick and wood, but adding a modern touch with the renovations. Cute little breakfast spot inside the hotel

We love staying here! The rooms are a nice size, check in is easy, and we love that it’s dog friendly. It’s the perfect spot to spend a little Staunton getaway! The pillows aren’t my favorite-a little small and soft, but everything else is great. They still give you a little lotion, shower cap and q tips in the bathroom which is nice, and the bathrooms are big and bright. We’ve stayed here twice and we’ll be back!

The hotel was nice and the morning staff was friendly. The evening person wasn’t very friendly or helpful too be honest. I would recommend the room service at all. I was extremely disappointed that they would charge $18 for 4 overcooked slices of bacon and brownish eggs in a to go bag. The bread was stale and the jelly was expired. No idea why they would charge so much for an awful breakfast. I ended up throwing it out and going else where. The rooms are large but lack proper cleaning in common areas. The hotel overall could use an update/clean. The best part of my visit was the spa. The spa was super clean and calming. I got an amazing orange clove massage that was to die for.

Very cool historic property! Definitely would go again if going through that area again

Room was small but wonderful. Only complaint is that the carpet rug was filthy. I let the front desk know and they apologized.

Had to walk one flight of stairs carrying a suitcase to get to my room.

Will not return

But minimal toiletries (water glass/towels), no in-room bottled water or daily maid service, and surprisingly squeaky wooden floors detracted from the overall experience.

The property was gorgeous and the hotel was a great place to stay. I appreciated its rich history and loved learning more about it while staying there.

I stayed at the Blackburn Inn for three nights. Everything was excellent. The staff were all incredibly friendly, and the property is beautiful. I can’t wait to come back.

When we pulled into the entrance gate and I saw the magnificent view of the main building, we were blown away! The grounds and building are wonderfully maintain. The history drew me here but the sheer beauty and how they’ve retained it, leaving so much of the original structure, is such an accomplishment.
