Excellent service!

Don't be misled by the "Wonderful" ratings and reviews. This is a 2 star motel in the middle of LA. The location is not safe and the motel keys have a written reminder to lock doors that leave an ominous sense about the neighborhood. We had hoped to drop off our bags while visiting Universal Studios, but the motel office did not have a concierge available until 1pm. The only attendant was a gardener who insisted that we pay him a tip for watching our luggage. He suggested that we walk to the amusement park which was terrible advice. The air conditioner left the room humid and sticky and had a smell of mold. You can find a 4-star hotel that is cheaper than this rob. Avoid.

around 8 bungalow style rooms. Below is a breakdown of the good and bad. The good - friendly staff Comfortable beds Locked gate at night Convient location Good rates Free parking The bad - Dirty floors Tight parking No breakfast as shown in description. Limited office staff if you need towels Etc. No office access unless you walk around the gate to the the other side of the property. One night I ordered a pizza after a long day. Because there are 2 matching room numbers it was delivered to the wrong one. I had to walk out on the street after dark and try and hunt down my food. The front desk somewhat begrudgingly let me walk through the office to the other side of the property. Overall this place is of good value, but don't expect a room as advertised f you reserve from Expedia. Chances are you will get a room at the property next door. Those rooms are not as nice in my opinion. This place is older and a bit run down but not bad for what you pay which was around $110 on weekdays and 188 on Friday. If you are looking for a very basic room for the night this place is of great value however, I would not stay again unless I was on the other side of the property.
- 1/5
The mirror is possibly a two-way mirror. There was no gap between my finger. Water damage had the bathroom door completely split and swollen on the bottom with obvious mold/rotting wood. The room smelled weird. Small hairs all over the bathroom floor.
- 5/5
Staff were friendly and attentive and the check in/out was really easy. Parking was safe/gated. Breakfast was either a muffin or packaged oatmeal, but the hotel was walking distance to really good food of all kinds. We walked to and from Universal studios and Xavier even gave us a printed map to walk there from the hotel. There IS a free shuttle for part of the way (the steep part). We would stay here again.
- 4/5
Clean room and free parking are great
- 5/5
Room was very clean, staff was very nice.
- 5/5
Helpful staff and super close to Universal studios. Parking was a bit tight but rooms are clean. Quiet and peaceful.
- 5/5
Easy check in. The receptionist was very funny and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
This hotel has cute bungalows with your own car port parking spot which is very nice. Feels like you’re own place rather than being attached to a wall next to someone else. Definitely well priced for the hotel room and near universal studios (6 min drive without traffic) which is what we wanted it for. Staff was kind, easy to work with, and funny which is an added touch. You can tell some of the parts of the room needs upgrades but for the most part the rooms are nice and look fairly new.
- 5/5
Awesome place! Everything was extremely clean, the staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the overall experience was great. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.
- 5/5
just a great little hotel I'm hesitant to give a great review because I don't want it full when I need to stay here. The parking next to your room is excellent especially with my motorcycle. Its also a short distance to the main restaurants of Studio City I'd leave the car home and walk or uber to save on parking. Nice staff and a quality bed. great spot
- 5/5
Fantastic staff - very friendly and helpful. We had tickets to Universal Studios Hollywood Fan Fest (from 2 PM - 2 AM), and the hotel worked with us to get keys ahead of time so we could go straight to our room after the event. The room and bathroom had been recently remodeled and were nice. I would have liked another outlet near the nightstand.
- 5/5
The Staff was fantastic! Easy to check in, WIFI included, Free Parking right in front of your room, and lots of great and walkable restaurants nearby. Rob was awesome and a fun to talk to, the gentleman that guided me to where to park was super helpful and amazing and the last dude that helped with an accommodation was a life-saver! Will return in the future! Thanks again!
- 5/5
Staff was quick to change us rooms because the a/c wasn’t working and free parking on site was such a nice extra. Clean rooms and close to everything around town.

- 5/5
Air conditioning was perfect! Staff was so nice and welcoming! Parking in front of unit is perfect.
- 5/5
The room was so clean!!! I was very impressed with the detail they put in. Clean bathroom (behind the toilet too)Clean behind the furniture. The bedding was a little thin but you can just adjust the temp in the room. Great location!
- 5/5
Weekend stay to go to universal, room was clean and comfortable but no amenities.
- 4/5
Loved the shower and covered parking. The vehicles were secure. Very polite check in personnel. Only thing thing I missed was free coffee in the morning from the lobby. It would’ve made 5 star. Thankfully, there was a 711 in walking distance…but it was a very cold morning.
- 5/5
The place was clean . My favorite part was the beddings . Great linens and very comfortable bed,
- 5/5
This is the perfect place to stay in the Universal Studios area - it's near Universal Studios, Warner Bros - Paramount Studios, etc. Rooms are excellent, clean, quiet [no 2nd level. You can park very close to your room!
- 5/5
Yes, It was very clean and the location was perfect. The bed was very comfortable.

I highly recommend staying at El Royale. The rooms are very clean and the beds are wonderful. The staff is amazing and they are very kind and make you feel welcome. Definitely will be staying there again.
- 5/5
Xavier is a very good host.
- 5/5
Kind and receptive staff. Even though I wasn’t expecting breakfast, they served good coffee and muffins, which was a nice surprise! I would definitely go back. Walking distance from Universal Studios.
- 2/5
2 PROPERTIES WE GOT THE COLD POOL COLD JACCUZZI NEXT TO A VENDING MACHINE..
- 5/5
Friendly staff and good service
- 5/5
The staff is amazing, the location is a quick ride away from Universal studios. Is safe & quiet. We are return customers!
- 5/5
Great stay, clean quiet room easy to walk to Universal Studios and friendly staff.
- 4/5
Very kind gentleman at check-in. Great location for walking to dinner. Cute retro vibe.
- 5/5
Everything was perfect for our 4-night stay and the staff are excellent.
- 3/5
Too old
- 2/5
The room was in good condition, but there were no services, as there was not even a phone in the room, and no area for storage either. Very basic for travelers.
- 5/5
Extremely clean. Staff was wonderful!
- 5/5
Everything was amazing, this was my second time staying there and the rooms and staff are incredible.
- 5/5
Room was clean and nice. Staff was friendly! Area was safe and a nice short walk to universal studios! Great experience.
- 5/5
Parking was easy. The staff are courtesy and professional. This was my second time staying here and my first time leaving a review for them , what compelled me to do so was them willing to work with me for an early check in. I never asked for an early check in during my first stay but due to my plans it was necessary this second time around and luckily they allowed it . This sole reason is enough for me to want to leave a review as they did not have too . For the price you pay it’s about what you would expect . I always check for bed bugs and did not find any both stays so that’s always a plus . I would stay here again if there price range remains about the same otherwise I would just pay the $60-$80 difference towards a name brand hotel.
- 5/5
The property was really clean. The heater saved us with the chilly nights we had. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. Will definitely be staying here for future trips. 10/10
- 5/5
Best place to sleep and park your car at while at USH
- 5/5
Nice little place to stay. The room was clean when we got there and the staff was friendly.
- 5/5
What a great place to stay! Shawn (or maybe it's Shaun or Sean) and Xavier were fantastic hosts. The hotel is in a great location, walkable to lots of good restaurants, and (if you're a fan of classic TV) the Brady Bunch house is less than a mile away!
- 5/5
Cute little cottage type rooms. Covered parking adjacent to room. Walked to near by shopping center. Staff were personable and kind. Would stay here again.
- 5/5
The room was very nice, comfy beds, nice shower / toiletries, friendly manager accommodated my early check in, and in the morning I got coffee, oatmeal, and a muffin. I will stay here again the next time I go to Universal Studios
- 5/5
Friendly staff. Room is clean.
- 5/5
The room was spotless. Very friendly assistance at check-in. And very reasonable rates with safe parking. I'd happily book again.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
It was great.
- 5/5
Pretty good spot. Nearby to a lot of shops and universal studios. It has designated parking and small but nothing bad. Would recommend
- 5/5
Nice Staff, super close to Universal Studios 😁
- 5/5
Parking was easy, staff was very helpful, and room was nice with very comfortable beds
- 5/5
I really enjoyed the staff~ the location was perfect for a conference I was attending~ I felt safe the whole time~ private parking~ modest, clean rooms. Such a wonderful find!
- 5/5
Yes they had a front gate that was closed at night
- 5/5
Coming but this time bringing our kids. I somehow only booked a one king bed and they had no problem upgrading me free of charge to the two king room. They are very kind, funny, and are available when in need. I recommend staying here for Universals Studios as it’s not too far, the parking is secluded and private, and easy to get in and out of.
- 5/5
Room was clean but spartan. Breakfast was minimal.
- 5/5
Great place
- 4/5
Super close to Universal Studios. Staff was very nice. Room was nice, needed a few touch ups and beds were not the most comfortable. Loved the parking area and they close the gate at night. Would recommend
- 4/5
Clean room and bathroom, front desk man was amazing at accommodating for universals HHN 2pm entry i really really loved that! Parking is limited, but workers helped us when we came back from the night out at universals
- 5/5
Very close to Universal Studios, 20min from Burbank airport and a little strip mall with convenient stores super close. Safety gate at night in front lot which is nice your car is secure in the lot just communicate with the host if staying out late. Parking right in front of unit. Most units are not handicap accessible.
- 4/5
The bathroom was equally pristine, stocked with quality toiletries and fluffy towels. I appreciated the quiet atmosphere and how well-maintained everything was. It’s clear the staff takes great pride in keeping the rooms in top condition. Highly recommend for anyone who values cleanliness, comfort, and a peaceful night’s sleep!
- 4/5
Area around it seemed unsafe. But while booking it showed pictures of the outsides looking like a little bungalow with its own parking spot, when we arrived they took us around to the other side of the property and it was more of a motel with random parking.
- 1/5
Very bad service, had to deal with the gardener our whole stay instead of the receptionist. Couldn't get any answers.
- 5/5
Great location near universal studios Hollywood
- 5/5
excellent service
- 5/5
Very nice & quaint, it was perfect.
- 5/5
Comfortable
- 5/5
My daughter and I absolutely loved our stay here! Super quiet and great food options within walking distance! We will be staying here again when we visit!
- 5/5
Stayed here since it was close to Universal Studios & we were going to an after hours event. Room was clean & spacious. Very comfortable. Staff was very friendly & helpful. Will definitely be staying here again when in the area!
- 5/5
Great place to stay! Room was spacious and clean. Area was gated and felt very safe.
- 4/5
The staff at the front desk was very spillable and friendly. Our only complaint is that the rooms have a strong smell of cleaning product.
- 5/5
Host was so nice. Quick check in, room was enough
- 5/5
.
- 4/5
This was a great place. The onlything was the LED lights. I appreciate the safety bu the wooden shutters dont block out the light and it was hard to sleep, as I like my room super dark
- 5/5
First time staying here and absolutely loved it and felt safe. I was traveling with my two children to universal studios. The walk is about 12 mins. Close places to eat and was convenient. Starbucks and Ralph’s was close by for snacks. Awesome sushi restaurant across the street. Place was awesome with car parking at no additional cost. Bed was just a bit uncomfortable but not a big issue. Gate closes at midnight and was awesome for safety. No noise and it was peaceful as we slept. Will definitely be staying here again.
- 5/5
This property was is so cute, when I checked in Robert was there to greet me and he is the sweetest ever! although they don't have breakfast they do have pastries available in the morning. But, if that's not your jam they are not far away from other eateries. I will definitely book with them again. Thank you guys for making this family vacation with my girls one to remember :)
- 4/5
Parking was small, but free, staff were very very friendly. Rooms are very very clean. The only problem no closet. I would recommend in bathroom area some hooks or a pole to hang some clothes. Other than that loved it.
- 5/5
Only complaint is the television could use updating or an amazon fire stick.
- 5/5
Perfect room and friendly staff. Will be back.
- 5/5
The staff was so friendly and helpful. The place was super cute and close by to places
- 2/5
Excellent Ratings are very questionable! First off, it said hotel on website, it’s not a hotel- it’s a motel! Driving into the lot, if I wouldn’t have already paid-(and a lot!) and wasn’t so tired , I would have drove away! From the outside- beat up separate little cottages- tight parking too. The room was pretty good inside- clean and comfy, but.. since it was a sketchy area and I was alone with my granddaughter- I didn’t feel too safe. And they didn’t have a deadbolt-so ended up putting a chair against the door. Breakfast was coffee , some packaged muffins and instant oatmeal The proprietor was nice. Lastly, there was an extra charge after I booked (property fee) I didn’t notice since I was busy at universal studios , and I assumed all fees were included per the description on Expedia’s website.
- 5/5
It's a wonderful stay!
- 5/5
The staff at The El Royale Hotel was excellent. They were extremely kind and were very attentive to my needs. I would recommend this hotel highly!
- 5/5
Clean bathroom and bedroom. Just what I needed near my nephew's apartment.
- 4/5
The place is newly renovated and very clean. However, there is no pool or outside sitting area where you can sit and relax. If you are looking for a clean place to sleep, this world work. It has all the basics with microwave, kettle and fridge.
- 5/5
very helpful and friendly staff. great location for Universal. it is a short walk away. i think 0.6 mi. great economical option very close to Universal
- 4/5
Clean, modern, comfortable room. Only drawback: no place to hang anything! Not one closet, hook, hanger in sight. Drawers were supplied, but if you wanted to hang up a coat or towel forget it.
- 5/5
Adorable older property. We thought we were staying in the cottages. Each one had a partially covered parking spot. We were told we were staying next door. This property is newly renovated. Parking spots are small and of course we have an SUV. The room had new floors. New bathroom. It was perfect for us. Many restaurants within walking distance. Definitely would stay here again.
- 5/5
This hotel is very clean snd most important, very comfortable.
- 4/5
Good
- 5/5
Nice and clean
- 5/5
Great little room that was clean and quiet. It was also walking distance to the free shuttle for Universal Studios. Staff was super friendly, especially Xavier. Would stay here again!
- 5/5
Quiet rooms with off-street parking, convenient location. Comfy king-size bed, spotlessly clean. Shower great - but took a while for the hot water to arrive... a bit wasteful of precious California water.
- 5/5
Great customer service. Very clean rooms. Quiet area. Very nice restrooms. The room was small but everything else was great.
- 4/5
Very nice for in and out business trip but without hangers and wardrobe to hang or store clothing not for long term
- 5/5
Add to that a small garage, and I will definitely be coming back!
- 5/5
Lovely room, very clean and tidy with plenty of toiletries and towels (flowers on the bed was a nice touch) great location to walk to universal studios!!
- 5/5
Great location for Universal Studios...it's a 15 min walk. Whilst the outside appearance may look a little dated, the room we had was exceptionally large, quiet, clean and with a comfy bed and great walk-in shower. Our room had a microwave and fridge and there were a number of supermarkets within walking distance to purchase food to bring back to the room. The only thing that would have enhanced our stay would have been the provision of tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
- 3/5
Area was clean plenty of parking
- 5/5
Both people I dealt with at the front desk were very nice and very helpful. The shower was modern and huge. Everything was clean. I was very impressed.
- 5/5
Property was cute nice and clean. Room was wonderful
- 5/5
Our stay was amazing. We didnt check in till 1030-11 pm and the staff was very helpful with speedy check in and giving us directions to all the big attractions near by.
- 5/5
Room nice and clean
- 3/5
It was clean, check in was fine, only complaint, after check out I left a phone charger plugged into wall. Called 2 times, no answer, left message, finally 3rd call answered, said they look for it, no response since, yet or net.
- 5/5
Safe
- 5/5
Only stayed one night, but it was an awesome experience. Very helpful and kind staff.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel
- 5/5
Always good to me. The staff is great and very friendly I always come back to el Royale! Love this place.
- 5/5
Stay was pleasant. Host is really very nice.
- 4/5
Convenient location, we had a bungalow that didn’t have a parking port so we had to park in front of the bungalow. Service was great, property is very aged- seemed like there may have been water damage (bubbling on the door and areas of the floor), bathroom door didn’t close, holes in the bed skirt, furniture very worn, looks like repairs started but never finished in some spots.
- 5/5
Great location and service.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our time here, it was very close to universal studios, the room was nice and clean, but most importantly the staff was extremely welcoming and friendly.
- 5/5
The El Royale is great little hotel with comfortable rooms, a wonderful shower, friendly staff and easy parking. It’s also located in a good neighborhood with a variety of restaurants and bars
- 4/5
Nice place
- 5/5
Friendly and helpful staff, walking distance to Universal Studios.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, and very cute and simple rooms
- 5/5
Friendly service, clean and quiet room, reasonably priced, vintage vibe. We liked it!
- 5/5
This property was so quite and quaint. It was perfect after a busy day. The staff was so accommodating and professional. The rooms were very clean and comfortable.
- 5/5
Love this place! So comfy and all around great. I can walk anywhere for anything close by.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay at el royal. Clean, quiet room well kept and very nice. Didn’t like the 10am checkout but everything was very pleasant. Well stay there again.!
- 5/5
The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. The room was extremely clean an absolutely wonderful experience.
- 5/5
But my room needed towel hanger by the sink.
- 5/5
Cute rooms. Beds and Pillows were great. Shower was new and updated.
- 5/5
Cute and clean. A bit worn, but the staff is so nice and the carports are cute and convenient
- 1/5
it is too old and dirty, they dont even have hangers, long mirror, iron and board within the rooms,
- 3/5
The place was clean, convenient and reasonably comfortable. Stark lighting, worn furniture, corroded metal in the bathroom, old tv, and no bedside lights created a negative vibe, made worse by the musty odor. If none of those things bothers you, you’ll be fine.
- 4/5
The room was quiet and mostly clean. The floor was a little dirty because the bottoms of my white socks were dirty brown from walking on the floor for just a few minutes. The rest of the place was immaculate. The coat hanger rack was detached from the wall on one of its corners. No other complaints other than those items.
- 5/5
Check-in was great, room was great, the only thing that bugged was the outside light from the next room was really bright and beamed into the room ao it was hard to sleep.
- 5/5
Amazing room! Great price n location. I read the reviews before booking and this place didn’t disappoint! Thank you
- 1/5
Door to room wouldn't open trapping my wife and daughter inside the room.
- 4/5
I chose this property due to the closeness to Universal Studios I like the Bungalow effect the rooms could be a little bit nicer but I would recommend staying at this property just be prepared that you're in Los Angeles and sometimes the surrounding area can be intimidating however the staff was very nice and helpful
- 5/5
Xavier was wonderful and a very charming person. Thank you for your help
- 5/5
Room was clean and private parking was convenient. Super accessible to universal studios and lots of dining options. Xavier checked us out in the morning and made us laugh so hard we started the day with a smile that never went away. Staff was friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Very cute little bungalows covered parking for car or compact. Clean nice room. They even gate and lock the property overnight so unwanted visitors arent a worry.
- 5/5
VERY CHARMING.
- 4/5
We were able to book three rooms for evacuation from the Eaton fire. The rooms were clean and spare. The linens were ample and the showerhead very luxurious (not so drought-conscious, but we enjoyed the splurge). I recommend requesting a unit as far back from Ventura Blvd as possible to get some quiet. This is a classic pull-up parking motor inn from the road-trip era!
- 4/5
Is a good place to estay
- 5/5
Very Clean, Safe and everyone there was so nice, definitely we will be coming back
- 4/5
Location is good, but the room needs some update. Overall is good.
- 5/5
We stayed here whilst spending the day at Universal Studios. The hotel staff is excellent in customer service. The rooms are clean and perfect for a weekend stay.
- 5/5
My college age son and I arrived really early (10 AM) on Saturday morning so we couldn't check in yet. Mr. Javier greeted us warmly Ave have us lots of tips for our stay. We decided to walk to Universal City Walk following the easy map Javier gave us. It was a nice walk after a long flight, and we could plan our USH park day. We ate lunch, visited shops, then walked back to the hotel. We checked in--the room was clean, simple, roomy. We were very happy. The bed was super comfy (like all the other reviews said!) and the towels were fluffy and clean. That evening we walked and got fabulous pizza at Lucifer's Pizza (take a right from El Royale). My son forgot to bring a sweatshirt so we waited to Marshall's a couple blocks away. The next morning we uber'd to USH for $9. We took a midday break and walked back, then uber'd back to USH for dinner and rides again. Our final day was spent at walk of fame and a Lakers game. The El Royale and staff were so great and helpful. The hotel is so cute--very retro 1950's I Love Lucy vibe. The area was so close to a Walgreens, Starbucks, Ralph's/Kroger, What A Peach (yummy smoothies), In and Out Burger. I will definitely book here again!
- 5/5
Xavair was very friendly, helpful and a pleasure! FIVE stars for His customer service skills!
- 5/5
It is definitely a hidden gem and convenient for Universal Studios. The room was clean and inviting. The Guest service was also amazing. I was able to park prior to my check-in. And complete check-in later that night. They took the time to make sure my room key worked and where to park. And how to get to Universal. I needed my tires looked at before driving back home to Vegas. And there was great spot down the road. And close to Costco for gas and Portos. Highly recommend and would stay there again!
- 5/5
Our family went to Universal Stuidos and this was a very close stay. We had a Chevy truck and cloudn't fit in the personal garage and had to parallel park near the lobby, but all was enclosed with a gate they close at midnight. Bed was clean and comfortable for a quick one night stay.
- 5/5
Very close to Universal Studios so it was very convenient staying here. Host was very accommodating as well.
- 5/5
Our stay at El Royale was INCREDIBLE! We loved the friendly service and extreme cleanliness of the room and property. Having the little carport next to our room was an amazing touch and made us smile. We will certainly be returning to El Royale whenever we need to stay in the area!
- 5/5
Definitely not what I expected. The main picture on the listing makes it seem like the hotel is the Comcast building. However it’s a charming old studio apartment, or at least that’s what it seems like, complete with attached garages. This was a comfortable and quiet place to lie our heads down for a few days why visiting my mother in law in the hospital.
- 2/5
Strange that no double bed was available.
- 5/5
Everything was great, staff, room! Will book again
- 5/5
Great place to stay
- 5/5
Lovely quaint room that looked recently renovated. The wifi signal is a bit weak near the back of the suite. Coffee is available in the morning and tastes great. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.
- 5/5
This stay was perfect. Close to everything and great price!
- 5/5
Had the necessities
- 5/5
Awesome
- 5/5
Universal is a 15 minute walk away (to their shuttle), or a 30 minute walk directly to the park. The area is really nice with some solid food options, and very walkable. Additionally, the four staffers I met during my stay were all incredibly nice. They made sure I had anything I needed, I got an early check-in, and it was no problem when I decided to stay an extra two nights. I’m definitely booking here again. For the price, you can’t beat the room and location. 10/10
- 4/5
Cons: very strong smell of cleaning solution in the room that was present for the 4 days we were there. No coffee machine in the room.
