Reviews
The hotel has a great location, close to the Capital and botanical gardens, with friendly and helpful staff. However, some guests have expressed dissatisfaction with the additional $50 late check-in fee and the lack of clear communication about this policy. The cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms is praised, but some guests have found the hostel to be noisy and filthy in certain areas.

The location next to the subway and market was great, and the staff was very professional. Breakfast was not available on 5 of the 10 days of my stay. The mattress was probably old and very soft.

First time in a hostel, it was great for the price and the staff was friendly. Very quiet, they were at about half of their capacity. Booked the room with one bunk bed (total gamble as a single woman traveler) but had it to myself for my entire stay. There is a Trader Joe’s nearby which is great because they have a shared kitchen. Great location, near the metro, eastern market, post office, CVS, groceries and basically everything you could need. Would stay again (with shower shoes this time).

Cute little place with a nice simple pancake breakfast. Beds are very comfortable. Shower situation is not ideal and the AC is blasting away making it super cold after you shower. The location is ok near a metro station but for the price definitely not ideal.

Pancakes for breakfast. Easy to book. Comfortable bed. Friendly, helpful staff. They need to make the traveler aware that they'll need to bring their own lock for securing their luggage. Otherwise, everything went well.

My room had an emergency exit sign that glowed red all night and wouldn't let us sleep, we had to cover it with a towel lol

Beautiful neighbourhood, loved to see how those old houses look in the inside. Breakfast was only pancakes but they let me take as much as I wanted and they were warm and fluffy My room had an emergency exit sign that glowed red all night and wouldn't let us sleep, we had to cover it with a towel lol

It was amazing, when I went to the parade. Thanks.

The location was phenomenal. GPS may give you false walking directions. If you're using public transit, so know when you get off at Eastern Market Station, is simply walk two blocks SE down Pennsylvania Avenue. That's it. The hostel is in the middle of the block between 9th and 10th streets on the left. But the building is very tight! This is an old building easily older than a century and maybe even older than that. What is used as a office desk to check you in, is actually someone standing in the entry quarter which is very narrow. Like all hostels, you take your shoes off and the best you can do is try and sit on the shoe rack and stay out of the way of the person standing to check you in. From there, recognize that this hostel is absolutely, positively, NOT disability accessible! These are very narrow, winding, steep stairs. You have to just lean your body into the wall, hoist yourself up one stair at a time, and do the best you can to pull your luggage up. Once in the rooms, they are extremely tight. They do have lockers for you to lock your personal belongings, but these are small lockers. There is absolutely no furniture in the room except bunk beds. But, the living room area is comfortable, and there is a nice little deck on the third floor that you can sit in up to 9:00. The attendant on duty when we were there, made pancakes in the morning, and they were some of the best pancakes we ever had! What truly made this place spectacular were the staff! Extremely nice!

The interesting thing is you take off your shoes when you enter which leads to it being cleaner than it otherwise would be except for the kitchen which was still sticky. Warning: the lockers will not fit large luggage and may not even fit a normal backpack depending on which lockers are available when you arrive. If you're paranoid about leaving your stuff in your room which is not locked either, don't bring large bags. You can't use a thick lock either, conveniently there is a hardware store across the street, 1.25in. lock works. The upstairs lounge and deck close at 10pm for quiet hours leaving the downstairs one usable until midnight. You can always go there cuz that's where the bathrooms are & showers for men. Awkward locations, but it's an old charming house. Breakfast is pancakes and lemonade but when I went down, nobody was there, just pancake batter. Probably people ate earlier and figured no one was coming after. Officially I think it ends at 9:30 and I was there just before 9. Lastly, I got rushed to leave. Check out is 11am, they were confused when my phone was charging on the bed and I was eating upstairs at 10. 10min before check out, I'm finishing brushing my teeth and bro is fed up with me. A reminder is fair, but is it a crime to check out before 11? Make it earlier if you want people to leave earlier.

Mayflower's website showed a "TV", yet when I called the Manager he said there was NO TV, and there were No Lockers to store VIP Papers ?
- 5/5
There was a TV in the living room that had basic cable and Netflix. The wi-fi speed was quick. For breakfast, the pancakes were consistently good and there was always a ready supply of butter, syrup, lemonade, and coffee. It was a quick walk to the nearest bus stop and metro rail station. The employees were most helpful and accommodating such as dealing with a tenant who was a very loud snorer, keeping the open areas clean, giving detailed answers to questions about tourist areas, and making sure the tenants had the things they needed. There was a shooting in the early morning one day but it was explained that the shootings are gang-related and directed to a rival gang and never at civilians. I was never accosted in the local area when I was out and about.

Great hosts, clean bunks and bathroom. Great location with metro station nearby.

I was asked to show my passport in a chilly vestibule (not inside) although I had already paid for my stay. I was then asked to remove my shoes (fine, but no slippers were on offer), presumably to protect a carpet dating from at least 1973...I could go on but if you can afford to go elsewhere, then do.

Very good value for the money. Good location.
- 3/5
Really cramped all around; it's a very narrow row house, so constantly bumping into people, and the stairs are windy, steep, and narrow. I liked its location and the everyone was really nice. Not very clean.

This place gives the illusion of a dorm style room but doesn’t directly say that there will be ten other people in that room. I felt terrible because we had a late check in (11pm) coming from out of town and the desk person knocked on the door and turned the lights on, disturbing all the other guests unlucky enough to be staying there. I decided to pass at that point but wasn’t about to get my money back. Don’t make the mistake of staying here.

Liked that the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Room change made to accommodate my request. Nice stay. Very clean here and I appreciate the presentation.

A bit pricey for a hostel but in the US it is like that. Crowded dorm rooms but super friendly staff, clean spaces and nice breakfast in the morning! 5 min walking distance from the nearest metro station and maybe 15 from Capitol Hill: perfect spot! Altogether enjoyed my stay.
- 5/5
Had a great stay at the hostel. It’s a very cozy place and close to the capitol building and smithsonian museums. Very safe homely feel at the hostel. I stayed in the 8 bed mixed. Tight for space but was okay as there are other areas for guests to use. Rooftop is lovely and has a recently renovated feel. James was a trooper member of staff. Such a hard worker and with such a lovely friendly smile all. Kept the place clean always. Make sure you ask about his book he’s written when you get there. All staff were great! Met some lovely guests at my stay

In a time where being able to make short-term reservations within reasonable rates, I was given a most regrettable experience. Several of the staff and management are inconsiderate and have terrible attitudes. With only three people staying in the entire house, I was put in a room with a transexual man who was coughing and clearly not well.
- 4/5
Very cheap place but well kept and friendly people

My friend and I were supposed to be in a single bunk bed room. Ended up being in a larger room with other people, which ended up being fine. Clean and nice staff

Duo Nomad is located in a residential area and is in a convenient location as a converted row-style home. Trader Joe's, Metro, CVS, and other locations within short walking distance. Tourist sites within short drive or a few Metro stops away.

Awesome Awesome Awesome !

This is the coziest hostel I have stayed in here in Washington, D.C. And the beds are the most comfortable, and least squeaky. The staff is friendly. It's quieter than most. Historic building, with thick walls. And the proximity to the Eastern Market Metro and to the Yes! Organic Grocer, as well as GREAT food from around the world, make it wonderful. Mekki's, a new Moroccan place, has the BEST and MOST welcoming service I have EVER experienced, by far. And Bombay Street Food Restaurant, across the street is fantastic, too. This is an easy location from which to navigate around D.C. to see the sights and enjoy the most international place in the world, per capita.
