Very unhappy , terrible customer service

1/5 – Checked in after car theft in Galveston, no phone or cards. Room phone dead. Owner demanded payment before noon Sunday despite crisis. Staff monitors cameras remotely and seemed scared. Was kicked out of lobby at 10pm Monday while waiting on emergency funds with my dog. "Under New Management" is misleading.

I loved having a full (minus an oven - but we didn't need it) kitchen. The bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of pillows. What I didn't love was having to go all the way to the last room down the hall on the 2nd floor with crutches. Between the highway noise, the people who let their children run across the floor above us most of the weekend, and the people who decided to have a full-on loud conversation literally outside our door at 7am, I found the room too noisy. The TV only plays regular TV channels and the guide doesn't tell you whats on, just the name of the station. It's past time to upgrade to smart TVs. For us, the location was great. Escalante's (about a block away) has great fajitas and Snooze (across the street) is a wonderful place for brunch and a great Bloody Mary!

My stay was amazing. The staff was extra helpful and I will definitely be back to stay at Candlewood. The only thing is I wish they had more of the luggage cart holders. Other than that everything was amazing 👏

Good stay. I did ask for a later check out but housekeeping still tried to come in before then. The sound proofing here is very minimal.

The room was clean. Should put more toilet paper in the room along with full Klenex. The door locks were good too. The parking lot clean as well as the front desk. The doors were not automatic so it was difficult to push luggage cases inside and out. My sister and I saw a large roach approaching the elevator when we were getting out of it on our third day. I told the staff and she was horrified. There was a homeless woman hanging out on the property for two days, she was getting coffee and approached us one day but I am not sure what she wanted. There was construction of a water hydrant too at night by the city of Webster.

It was okay had to leave a day earlier than we were supposed to because the people next to us kept banging on the wall and front desk staff didn’t do nothing so our family left a day early. No breakfast like website said. Probably won’t be back
- 4/5
Clean room
- 3/5
Looks good but the staff needs reminders, to fill the sugar, to fill the creamer, no lids for the cups, and most of the time we need to wait for front end stafff.... location good
- 2/5
Staff very has no idea. They gave me a twice with someone already in those rooms
- 1/5
Found roaches, we were planning to cook and the stove didn’t work and broken door handle, stain bathtub. They didn’t offer us a different room or a discount.

Very good

The breakfast at starbucks was good. There was no way i’d eat there. The electricity on the bedside tables was not working. Door looked like it had been broken into. The bathroom vanity was nonexistent. My wife had to put on her makeup on in the kitchen.

Bed was pretty comfortable. There was no breakfast available. Just coffee and no lids. So kid was bummed
- 4/5
Very friendly staff, quiet and large room! Perfect for our trip for a gymnastics meet.
- 1/5
The room was "updated" but not well. The air conditioning cover was laying on the floor when I arrived to the room. There were stains on the towels. Huge gap under the room doorway and extremely loud halls and doors from other guest. The front desk agent at checkout looked like he had been sleeping and wasn't very helpful. I will never stay at this property again.

Great place and they loves my fur baby
- 3/5
The mattresse was comfortable, the pillows good, only two problems with the room, on the 3rd floor, their wifi just sucks, and tge frame of the bed was squeaky, but, other than that, no complaints.
- 2/5
No name outside made hard to find Charged for incedentals I couldn’t use
- 5/5
great spot
- 3/5
The room was very cramped, and the laundry is not free as with other Candlewood Suites. The location was good.
- 2/5
There was no luggage cart, and the water pressure was very low.
- 5/5
Me , my daughter and 3 grandkids stayed here and everything was exceptionally pleasant . All of our needs were met and we were very happy to stay here.
- 2/5
Liked the floor plan of the room. There was no luggage cart, and the water pressure was very low.
- 2/5
Our reservation was for a king size bed with a sofa. Upon arrival, we were given a king size bed with a chair. Goes without saying a two and a six year old can’t sleep on that. Had them give us the correct room but water was literally raining down from a light fixture in the bathroom so I asked them for a third room. They did not have any of the rooms we reserved available so we had to go with two queens in order to get a sofa. Personally, we will not be staying there again considering the incompetency in providing us the room we reserved. The rooms are fairly nice and the lady at the front desk was nice I will say. But considering the reservation issues and water coming pouring out of a fixture in the bathroom, we will be staying somewhere else in the future.

You can tell that they are putting effort into upgrading the place. The staff is kind and friendly (this is in particular to the front desk) I’ve stayed at this property before because, it’s not far from a family member I understand that they are still working on upgrades . The room itself seem to be fully upgraded Although I’ve stayed here on multiple occasions and the upgrade that would make the most sense is the toilet seats But whoever is in housekeeping is absolutely atrocious , when I checked into my room, you could tell that the toilet was used and filthy, when I pulled the sheets back on the bed, you could clearly see a faded outline of maybe urine . The television supposedly has cable or satellite or whatever but 90% of the channels don’t work or the signal doesn’t work to the point of the TV just shutting off and the few channels that do work aren’t worth watching even local channels glitched for hours and hours. It’s super annoying to be in a hotel room and you can’t even watch television. They put me in the room. I’m assuming near long-term visitors, children in the hallways very loud in the evening for the school bus and a dog in a different room that barked howled or cried the entire 18 hours I was in the facility. . I’m sure that things will get better as time passes but right now it is absolutely not worth the rate . I’m pretty horrified that I paid well over $100 and I had to leave and go to Walmart to buy my own cleaning supplies for the toilet.

The location was great however the property was a mess with construction, we had to change rooms 3 times due to toilet not working or door lock broken. It wreaked of paint fumes, they even asked to paint our door and for us not to close it for 30 minutes. Also huge tree roach in bathroom and then small cockroach on night stand. There were no appliances such as hairdryer or iron and we were in town for an important performance so we had to go purchase our own iron no one even offered a discount or credit for future once they complete the construction. We were very disappointed due to it not being this way at a prior stay.
- 5/5
Everything was amazing from the front desk down to my stay!! I have no complaints
- 5/5
I was clean and spacious and quiet
- 2/5
Location The fact that they don't have there business in line with booking.com information was inaccurate description of suite I chose.
- 2/5
My wife and I entered the room and you could see somethings like the kitchenette wasn't very clean, but we were okay with that because the hotel is under renovations. As my wife was unpacking she killed a roach that was walking on the refrigerator door. As my wife was almost done unpacking she notices a pair of underwear on one of the legs of the chair in the room. I called the front desk and told them about the underwear and then questioned if our room was even cleaned before we occupied it. Front desk lady told me yes. Remind you I just told her about the dirty underwear laying on the leg of the chair. We had to pack everything back up and go downstairs and have another room assigned to us. It's very disappointing because this is not the first time we have stayed at this hotel but it will be the last time. The location is idea and the price was definitely cheaper than other hotels in the area but like they say you get what you pay for.
- 3/5
Hotel is undergoing renovations, so being a 3rd shifter while this is going on isn't great on top of the noise, the housekeeper has broken my sleep several times in the day even though I have a do not disturb sign on my door.
- 1/5
Never recieved my security deposit back I want a refund
- 4/5
Near to a lot of stores
- 2/5
This property is under renovation - including rented rooms. There were no security locks on the door. The Do Not Dosturb signs mean nothing. I had workers coming in my room with the sign up, house keeping came in also. There were no amenities available. The weight room was closed. The room rate was low. You get what you pay for and you don't get what you don't pay for.
- 3/5
Everything is dirty & old
- 4/5
It was ok had
- 1/5
I booked the King suite and ended up with a full-size bed. Confused why I had to pay so much for a full-size bed when I booked a king studio.
- 4/5
It was good experience.
- 1/5
Well i drive with my family order 2 beds and sofa bed. Sooners i arrive from guy, told sorry but the only got king size. He will cancel and told me go on. I calling fkr my refund and they telling lies. Super frustrated i never expect terrible experience. Hotel was in construction and not bath available.
- 1/5
Facility is unprofessional. Cancelled on me one hour prior to checking in. Staff was rude and unhelpful.
- 5/5
Always felt welcomed staff was sweet.
- 5/5
Property is older but great for the price. Room was really big with lots of room with a sofa in the room. Nothing fancy at all but good for the price.
- 5/5
The staff was very sweet i will definitely be comming back. Made me feel welcome and i felt right at home.
- 3/5
The bed had springs in it i could feel had a dip where i was supposed to sleep so slept crossways on bed. It said i had breakfast but they never put any out. But on a good note they kept it clean it was run down in places that showed .it was convenient and the price was so so .staff was very nice .
- 2/5
No cups, not even to use to brush your teeth. No hangers. There is a kitchenette but NOTHING in any drawer or cabinet. Dishwasher stunk, everything worked but this is not a nice place. Yes, it is a cheap place but it is way more rundown that it appears in photos and the overall rating is WAY to high. More like a 6.0 in my opinion
- 2/5
Restroom was drity.. microwave doesn't work...tv is barely holding on abd the restroom light dosent work right and the light in front dosent work at all.
- 2/5
For the price I paid, I am very disappointed. No USB jacks, dim lights, bad tv position, iron didn't work, BUT!!!! The bed was comfortable
- 1/5
When checking in, the guy behind the counter was not very welcoming. When entering the room, half of the lights didn't work. The ice trays in the fridge had some kind of melted substance in them. In the morning some woman who I'm assuming worked there tried to enter our room without knocking, she had a key (NOT housekeeping). Thankfully we had the security lock in place. When I went to the door she was telling me in horrible English "check out is at 11." (It was 10:30a, we were still gathering up our things). I said "ok, I know". Then she told me to go to the desk to check out. Again I told her, "I know". We decided to hurry up and get out of there. On the way out, we rode the elevator down, my companion went to the right to exit and move the car to the front entrance, I went straight towards the counter. The woman behind the desk was yelling at my companion "what's your room number? Hey! What's your room number?" I stepped into view and said the number. She stopped, looked like I had surprised her. I said "and we are checking out" (11a on the dot). She just said okay and took the card keys. All of the staff were rude, it wasn't clean, and being right on bay area where all of the restaurants and shopping is, I expected better. It was definitely not worth the stay and I won't be returning.
- 2/5
The kitchenette was run down, stovetop was rusty. The kitchen/desk chairs had white stains all over them. The floors were wet. There were no pots, pans, dishes or silverware in the kitchenette and one of the main reasons we picked this place was so that we could cook while we were there. The halls smelled of weed and cigarettes and the place was noisy. Constant knocking on doors inside and loudly revving engines outside. Based on pictures and price, we expected a much nicer experience.
- 2/5
The water in the bath area was scalding hot. Toilet did not fill up when flushed, used hot water from tub to fill up toilet bowl. No sheets on the fold out bed and the mattress was very stained. Had to get linens from office. People in parking lot playing football at midnight.
- 3/5
Pretty nice place to stay for a decent price. Wasn’t the cleanest but was good for the price.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and accommodating
- 1/5
It was supposed to be a suite. But no dishes cups , and the grab and go breakfast was a insult.
- 4/5
The room was small in the bed and TV was too close together. I kept on hitting my leg on the bed because the TV was too close.
- 1/5
Microwave didn't work, guy at the front counter told me there was nothing he could do, looked clueless. Empty beer cans in the elevator and just overall not clean.
- 5/5
Staff was very nice
- 1/5
We switched rooms, and it was a little better: the carpet didn't feel grimy and it had been cleaned better, but the sheets were still stained, there bathroom had mildew, and there were a few bugs (no fleas). We booked two nights, but rearranged our trip to avoid staying a second night.
- 2/5
The sofa bed was easy to pull out, but hard to place back in. I called the front desknfor assistance, first of all, phone it rang several times before line was answered, and mind you, lobby was empty, not busy at all. The receptionist stated she didnt know what to do or how to help and she couldn’t assist because it was past 9pm. Complimentary breakfast, should be more like grab n go. It was only coffee, and no Styrofoam cups togo, blueberry muffins, and granola bars. What ever happened to the continental breakfast that used to be offered? There was no staff to greet upon entertaining or leaving the premises.
- 2/5
The staff worked hard to accommodate us. Housekeeping was short handed, and any rooms like what we chose were not ready in time. The housekeeper did great cleaning our room. The room has been through hard living though. Kitchen cabinets were scratched up and worn out, along with the counter, stove and table. Fridge was clean as can be and ice cold. Kitchen did not have any basic items except two plastic drinking cups. Front desk did not have a coffeemaker available or dish soap. Bathroom door handle was falling off, and I had to screw the knobs back together to hold the door close. It would not latch. The beds had fresh pillows, cases, and sheets. The carpets were worn out and stained. You could tell housekeeping did their best with what they had to work with. Then the free breakfast advertised was not available. Front desk was respectful to inform us that they had coffee, but no cups and part of the breakfast foods they usually offer were on back order or never delivered. So more than half the reasons we chose Extended Stay were not available. On top of that the location we registered for was the NASA road location, and Expedia 1800 informed me for some reason it reassigned us to this Bay Area location. I doubt I will use Expedia or Extended Stay America again. Our family expected a clean kitchen with utensils to cook our dinner, make tea/coffee and wash the dishes. Bathroom w/a door for privacy, didn’t have it. Breakfast for our family, didn’t have it. Wish it was better.
- 4/5
Staff genuinely care about guests. Had a room with the ac not working and was given a second room for free. Building desperately needs a remodel and ac system seems to be the biggest issue. Supervisor Danielle took care of our issues and was awesome to deal with.
- 1/5
Ugly, outdated, tiny bathroom, toilet not working, blankets very thin, cheap towels, hair on bed, no contentail breakfast., no internet service. Worst place I have ever stayed, but o will say the mentainance guy was awesome.
- 2/5
The pool was always closed and the breakfast consisted of coffee and granola bars, maybe a cheap store bought muffin, or instant oatmeal but there were not any bowls....
- 5/5
It’s a really nice place… I’ve been staying here a few times already while I’m vacationing in Galveston and Kemah
- 5/5
The staff was really nice
- 3/5
We got this hotel mainly for the pool and the fact that it had breakfast because we have kids. As soon as we walked up there was a sign saying the pool was out. We check in an get to our room where the couch bed was open halfway. We tried to close it or just open it but it was broken. We told the housekeeper and she said for the front desk to give us another room. The front desk lady said she could not give us another room and for us to just complain on the app. The housekeeper went above and beyond to make sure we got into a new room. Everything was great until we woke up expecting to go get breakfast. Their breakfast consisted of blueberry or chocolate chip muffins. Single muffins. Nothing else besides coffee or hot chocolate. We checked out an went out to eat like we did not want to do. We will not return there or recommend this hotel.
- 4/5
Mostly clean and fit the price. We had a good stay!
- 5/5
Great service… great people. Very helpful.
- 1/5
Front desk was nice til we had to check out early due to family emergency. She told me she couldnt check me out then and there so I would be charged the remaining time of my stay I booked. I was also charged twice to stay there once by Hotels.com and once when i arrived.
- 1/5
It sucked cause I didn't stay where I booked at when I got there they said u all over booked my stay so I couldn't stay there
- 5/5
I brought my dog. We enjoyed the grassy areas around the property for walking . The staff was extremely helpful and polite !
- 1/5
My reservation was for a double bed with sleep sofa got to room no sofa. They did provide a cot but had no pillows to accommodate. Didn’t get any kind of rebate for not having the sofa. There was an old piece of pizza under the bed that was left along with a baby bottle lid. No ice machine. Not a place I will visit again..
- 4/5
rooms were good for the cost but one of the ac was making a noise
- 5/5
Was clean and very helpful staff would stay again
- 2/5
Safe and near the mall
- 1/5
Nobody from expedia or extended stay let me know. I had to get back into the rain and go find another hotel.
- 4/5
The bed was comfortable and the room was adequate but needed some TLC. There were stains on bathroom counters and tub bottom. There were worn patches in the carpet. Several times the front desk wasn’t covered when I stopped to ask a question. It advertised breakfast which consisted of coffee and a chocolate muffin. I wouldn’t go back again.
- 5/5
Great Customer Service
- 3/5
Smelled bad
- 5/5
Great Staff !! Very Nice and Helpful!!
- 4/5
Check in took a long time, although paid through Hotels.com, they required much personal information. Clerk couldn't tell me why. Room was very nice. Freezer in refrigerator reeked of fish! No ice available in the freezer nor in the entire hotel. Never been in a hotel that didn't have a working ice machine somewhere. Breakfast was a limited continental style breakfast that didn't open before we had to leave in the morning for our games. Dogs next to us woke us up with their barking.
- 2/5
There were no staff available for towels or cleaning the room. I was charged $100 for cleaning service and they showed twice during a weeks stay. Trash overflowing and spotty front desk service. I’ll surely take my business elsewhere next time.
- 1/5
Overbooked and unorganized. Do not recommend for anyone
- 1/5
Carpet was gross (white socks were black) Sheets were dirty. A/C barely kept it cool and temp outside was in the 40's. Could hear the people upstairs walking. Kitchenette was dirty. The room smelled horrible. Everthing was very dated. I normally dont leave bad reviews but this was bad for such a high rating on here.
- 5/5
Lovely rooms, clean and staff is so nice.
- 5/5
Very professional front staff - the front desk is not manned all the time (night time - you need to call/contact someone); rooms and space is well maintained (have stayed here before). It is not the most fancy - but good space, clean, and quiet. If you are visiting NASA or south Houston, i'd stay here for sure.
- 1/5
Room not clean place smelled moldy overall bad experience we checked out early and they said they were reimbursing and I have not been reimbursed
- 5/5
Staff was very knowledgeable, accommodating, and friendly.
- 3/5
I did not like that they do not clean your room unless you stay 7 days.
- 3/5
I didn’t know that they won’t clean your room unless you stay 7 days.
- 5/5
Good service
- 1/5
I took time out to make a reservation and when I got there the very young lady told me that they gave all the rooms to WALK-INS. Had to make a reservation at La Quinta Inn for DOUBLE the price. I will tell my friends not to book there.
- 5/5
Not enough towels and wash cloths
- 2/5
The only thing I liked about this property was that it was cheap. I looked for ones that had breakfast included but they didn't have breakfast! Therefore, I paid too much even though it was cheap because I could have booked a cheaper one that didn't offer breakfast. Also, they sprang some ridiculous deposit thing on me that they charged me for my room upfront, and then an additional $50 deposit (that was never mentioned) incase we damaged the room! WOW!!! We are elderly and don't smoke or drink, was just using the room to sleep in. Not the type to damage anything and I've never stayed in a hotel that did that. Sounds like a scuzzy hotel to me. These are the reasons why I would never stay in an Extended Stay America again. I left feeling dirty because of their policies indicating the sort of clientele they expected.
- 4/5
The stay was ok over all but the refrigerator was leaking both weeks that I stayed
- 2/5
The environment and cleanliness were appalling. I had to check out early and book another stay at a different location
- 5/5
The staff were friendly and very helpful. We had a wonderful stay.
- 3/5
Non working amenities.
- 1/5
Booked two rooms through hotels.com and I’ve arrived at the hotel by 9 pm on 9/3. Front desk person said they don’t have a room. Terrible and embarrassing as my rooms are confirmed by hotels.com. Worst experience
- 1/5
Very disappointed the room was dirty, the bed had a dip in the middle of if. The base of the toilet was full of piss.
- 3/5
Convenient location.
- 1/5
No iron to press my clothes., but had an ironing board. Old rusty stove burners. Noisy AC. Dishwasher door was not in working order. Very small bathroom.
- 4/5
Property was clean, had plenty of grassy areas for the pups, and the staff was friendly. It’s located near lots of shopping, plenty of food (several places within walking distance), and attractions like Johnson Space Center. Not too far from Kemah and Galveston, a very easy drive to both. I would stay here again!
- 5/5
Staff was friendly will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Great
- 1/5
HUGE opportunity in cleanliness. The room had roaches and the furniture, counters, tv, dresser, everything needed to be wiped down and sanitized.
- 3/5
The location is excellent! Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby and only 30 miles from Galveston beach. The room was small and my legs were itching while there and now have what appears to be bite marks on my right leg and foot. Housekeeping never came and emptied our trash or refreshed our towels, otherwise hotel was just ok for the two nights we stayed.
- 5/5
Only negative thing was almost All of the Laundry Machines were Out of Order.
- 1/5
Once we walked into the room my legs and my sons were covered in fleas!!! The carpet was infested! They moved us up but it didn’t matter the fleas were in my bag so I had fleas on my items the next morning. Waiting to hear from the manager.
- 5/5
Thanks for the stay
- 3/5
It was ok. No ice machine on site.
- 2/5
The room was dirty though. Appeared to have "blood" all over the hair dryer, pill bottles etc under the bed. Yuck
- 4/5
I didn’t have any issues with property but would have liked to have had a coffee pot in room with coffee instead of having to go down to front desk and get one then go to another storage room to get coffee and accessories. Also the shower curtain was too short so it kept getting floor wet. But it was ok to stay at.
- 1/5
Unfortunately this property has a number of issues. The pool was green and closed the first day. A cleaning company came to fix it thankfully but I picked a hotel with a pool for my kids. Their continental breakfast was granola bars and coffee, and sometimes there was no coffee out before 8am. There were broken drawers in our room and brown stains on the pullout mattress. And there were a number of roaches in the room while we were there. The staff tried to be accommodating but they seemed overwhelmed. I would not return to this hotel.
- 1/5
When we arrived at the property the staff Jordan was incredibly rude and made us feel as though we were inconveniencing him by checking in and interrupting him flirting with the security guard and another visitor. We were given a smaller room than advertised (no sofa bed) and the room was filthy. I had to go to the lobby 3 different times because of the issue with the room all I’m which Jordan was reluctant to help me. In the morning at checkout I was told by Stefany after reporting the issues to request a refund through Expedia for all the issues because she did not want a bad review. I requested the refund over a week ago 2x and nothing has been processed. Terrible service and filthy old hotel. Stay somewhere else. Expedias assistance with the issues were deplorable as well
- 2/5
There was no hair dryer provided said that they were "out" each day I checked. Exterior building most of the screens were ripped on the windows and there was a shattered glass on the side door that we could not use. Pool was not secure for anyone could walk up and open the gate to hop in! There was a musty smell in the hotel itself. Beds were lumpy and not comfortable. The staff was very pleasant to deal with.
- 4/5
Room was ok. Beds were clean but carpet was stained badly and should be replaced. Kitchen area needs updating. There were no dishes, silverware or cookware to use. Bugs were in the bottom cupboards and dishwasher looks broke. Refrigerator was clean. To access the pool, you had to go out to the parking lot and walk around. This was a dog friendly hotel and dogs were in the pool. Dog hair is not my favorite thing to find in a pool but dogs were sweet and friendly. I wasn't sure the owners were actually staying at the hotel. Workout room had roaches.

The motel was nice and the staff was friendly. However, 5 to 10 minutes after getting into my room, I received a phone call from the front desk because of a noise complaint made by another guest. This shocked me because I had just gotten into my room and hadn't made a single sound. I simply came in and put my stuff on the table and laid on the bed before the phone rang. I know it's not the staff's fault, but it was rather upsetting. Unfortunately, I had to leave abruptly.

Hotel was overbooked. I was separated into 2 rooms and a hen had my 2 day reservation miss entered as 1 day when they changed my double to two singles. Staff was friendly but they need support.

Maintenance had fixed the shower rod because someone had pulled it out of the wall. But thier fix was so poorly done that the shower curtian was 6 inches above the tub causing the floor to flood after taking a shower. Next morning went for thier free breakfest, which only contained oatmeal packages. There were no spoons or utensils to mix or eat with. My step daughter wanted to go swimming which i told he we would go after breakfast, only to find out the pool was closed. It was being used when i check in. I really dont understand. In all honesty in my years of traveling this is by far the work hotel i have ever stayed at. No one seemed interested in doing anything relating to customer service.

The rooms were very dirty. Stains on carpet and walls. The smell of urine was strong
