Howard Johnson by Wyndham Albany

It was a decent room, fairly clean. I wasn't expecting a 4 star experience from a budget hotel. There were a few things that could have been better though. The breakfast was nice, but to say that options were limited would be an understatement. The only real negative was average at best water pressure and temperature. The room was clean, but it looked like it could use a thorough deep clean. Furniture was well used but still functional.

Location No X inside the washroom sink. If anything would fall down the sink, such as a ring, it would cause a major problem.

The hotel could be a little bit more cleaner but overall it was good just to get some sleep

The hotel I feel is under rated I can understand some out side cosmetics could be a little off putting to people but the rooms really make up for it. The rooms remind me of a Hampton inn/ true by Hilton with out the price hike. The rooms are very clean staff very friendly and helpful house keeping quick and professional with daily free cleaning. It’s an above and beyond budget hotel. I’ve stayed at 5 star hotels that should be rated 1 star and this place really competes with the big hotels. This hotel has a great location that’s is near EVERYTHING. I would absolutely stay again N/A

The pictures are deceiving. The non-smoking room I reserved smelled as though someone had just smoked a cigarette in it. I was moved to another room, but although it appeared somewhat clean, the linens had an unpleasant odor as well. Overall, the property is dirty and poorly maintained — more like a roadside motel than what was advertised. I would not stay here again.

I didn't enjoy anything about the hotel. This hotel needs a Deep Cleaning. Dirt everywhere. The carpet is dirty. Cracked walls, chipped paint. Bathroom smelled of cigarette throughout the stay. The shower head didn't work. The telephone was piled up with filth. The beds were uncomfortably. The curtain didn't fully cover the window. I had to use tape to cover the window. Needs better locks on the door. Also new doors. I had to shove the door a few times to close the door.

It was ok, pretty clean. Bed was ok Noisy fan, bathroom was old. Toilet needed extra effort to flush. See pictures. Not terrible, but could be better.

It was quiet and safe with all of our questions answered

The room was clean and comfortable. They supplied the necessary amenities. Very quiet and good location. Easy check in. The heater/cooler in front of the room was quite noisy. Laundry room did not provide laundry soap or softener.

In the website it states that breakfast is included but that is not true there's no breakfast at all

The beds were comfortable. The refrigerator froze our food we put in it. even though we didn't want it frozen.

I liked everything about the place. Nothing too fancy but it's clean, the staff were professional so they deserve a great review. It's a win-win!

Staff was very warm and welcoming, clean room, super comfortable bed, quiet, simple breakfast and close to everything. Heating/AC unit kept completely shutting off (couldn't manually get it to turn back on) and when it did run it was very noisy during the night.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and very spacious. The mini fridge works very well.

This place should be updated. I’m used to an incidentals charge but a $100 charge returned in 3-5 days after the room is inspected after check out? As a single traveler I didn’t feel safe. The walkway to the room was not lit well. It felt like the boogeyman was around every corner. Going to get ice felt the same. The laundry room where the ice machine is located smelled awful. Ok fine, it’s one night. I awake to a knock at 8:15. I respond, but the door immediately opens anyway and a man from housekeeping is standing there. He sees that I am in the bed under the covers, apologizes and then closes the door. I wouldn’t recommend but especially not for female solo travelers.

Staff was pleasant and location was good Rooms are very dated. 1st room, tub/shower needed repair and TV had no volume. They promptly moved to another room which was nicer. Safe needed batteries. Overall clean room but rugs looked like they could use washing vs just vacuuming.

The property certainly doesn’t look like it does in the photos. A little sketchy at night time - our window curtain was closed by a piece of duct tape. The “restaurant” is a seafood only buffet. And there was beard hair all over the only sink. Otherwise a cheap place to stay if you’re only going to be there to sleep.

I didn't like the confusion with the deposit.

Not clean

Dirty room. Smelled musty,furniture was dirty and dated. 1973 called and it wants it's decor and furniture back. Back of hotel wherr our room was was very sketchy and my wife did not feel safe. Would not recommend at any price.

My husband just needed a simple place while in town on a job. He said it everything was very simple but clean. The only major issue they had was when Steph that did not speak English came in at 10:00 a.m. and abruptly woke him up. They proceeded to throw his cup of coffee away that he was still drinking. Check out is at 11:00 not 10 He had asked for a few more minutes together his belongings but they proceeded to strip the room down to clean it. Yes he realizes there was only an hour until check out He had been working late last night and just wanted a little bit more sleep before going back out for the rest of the day.

It was convince to get around and it was nice and quite

My room was comfortable but they need to fix their drainage system. Washer & Dryer were out of order. Bed was comfy. Neiborhood seemed a little suss. Pool looks nice for summer. Breakfast was toast and 2 cereals. Plenty of restaurants around building. See pix.

A little cold

This week, it gave me Room 119 that had strong residual odor of marijuana. Last week’s Room did not have such strong residual odor of marijuana.

The room was dirty, the sheets had stains on them, the microwave looked disgusting, the coffee maker was in the bathroom for some odd reason, and the heat didn’t work.

Room was kind of dated. Definately not as clean as most. Reception was really odd and check in was delayed.

Room originally didn’t have enough heat right before a snowstorm and the front desk switched our room and helped us move our belongings. She was kind and very helpful. Just the rule of too much stuff being brought in the room was something I wasn’t used to. We are relocating from another state so we did have luggage and it was 3 of us. Other than that and the bed was pretty hard. Overall decent space.

Felt unsafe when hotel staff weren’t seen controlling a couple yelling at each other outside the rooms in the parking lot. It was going on and off throughout the day .

Place is filthy, stained sheets, dirty floor, grime in the edges. A/C Unit filthy and hardly blows air. Chair rickety and the bed springs were pokey

Zero to none toilet paper. The first impression is the musty, mildewy, wet smell. Bed sheets had stains but smelled clean. Old decor. You get want you pay for.

Not the best area. Didn't feel that safe but the room was clean and did not smell. Bed was not uncomfortable. No hot water at first for the shower but waited ten minutes and it did get hot.

Beside the price and the comfy bed there is no other good thing I can say about this hotel. Everything was completely run down. The room smelt so moldy the second we opened the door. And it was definitely not clean when we arrived. Sure the beds were made, but there were crumbs left on the rug, cobwebs in the corner in the bathroom & even broken price tag plastics left on the nightstand. I think the picture of how ancient the alarm clock was will tell it all!!

Dirty property, no at the front desk when I went to check out at 7:20am. Free breakfast includes a loaf of white bread, two things of stale cereal. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone

The parking was ok,close to the room and yes having a laundry room was great

Beautiful place, amazing staff, best amenities and super fair price. Staff will go above and beyond their duty to make you comfortable. The court yard is a dreamy peaceful tranquility you never thought was possible to get in the city. I love this place!!!

The smell of the room made me feel like I didn’t want to eat and for the morning breakfast, I went down the street to McDonald’s! Bed was comfortable, but there was no blankets! Just a top sheet! There is a sash at bottom of bed, I thought it was a blanket folded and then I realized it was just a decoration. Price was good just to be able to rest though before travelling again. For a Howard Johnson hotel, it was definitely NOT the Howard Johnson of yesteryear.

The Hubby and I spent two days at your establishment and was very impressed by how reasonably priced it was, and how fresh and clean it was as well. We would definitely stay here at another visit.

Easy and friendly

The housekeepers were not friendly. That’s the only think I had a problem with. I wanted to make my own bed and things and they just like didn’t want me to take the sheets. Plus they didn’t give me everything I needed either. It was only a couple of things, for a fitted sheet.

You get what you pay for. The first night there was no bath towels but housekeeping rectified it this next day. The bath didn’t hold the water for a nice soak after a long day traveling, it quickly drained despite closing the drain. I’m a Brit I like the option of a bath, that’s a immediate dislike from me.

Room was outdated. Needs a face lift. But it does a job if you need a place to sleep only.

Although the exterior of this hotel looks dated and basic but the interior of our room was excellent. Very clean, a comfortable bed, good shower and spacious. Perfect for a convenient comfortable short stay.

This is a pleasant place to stay but need some work on staff communication skills and overall description of breakfast location pool use and utilities or ice machine location

Maintained budget property

Very old and run down. Area around did not seem safe. Pool looked nice but didn't go in.

Staff are very friendly but the ac didn’t work, there was a lot of noise outside our room all night long and the rooms were not well maintained or clean.

the place is a no frills place to stop that is clean and neat with all the basic necessities eg clean linen and bed, toilet, desk and chair - plus TV, refrig, microwave, and window coverings. The floor rug was well used but clean. I think this place is good value for the money.

This motel had a « vintage » feel, but the room was clean and quiet, with a comfortable bed. Served my purpose for a reasonable price. I would stay there again.

Large room, love the ceiling to floor old-fashioned windows. Comfortable bed. Nice outdoors area. Area only so-so, but I just needed a bed for a night. 2 excellent restaurants close-by.

My stay at the Howard Johnson was good. The staff were friendly. I had a nice swim in the pool. My room had all brand new towels and sheets. I think the bed was brand new too, very comfortable. The water i in the shower/bath was good and hot. I stayed with my wife and two children. Places is perfect for the budget minded traveler.. I thought the staff were very friendly. I have decided that I will come and stay again. For me, the location is very good.. most of the guests I ran into and talk to were laid-back and friendly. There is a Mexican place next-door. You can walk to supposed to be very good., the air conditioning worked well. I thought there was a lot of channels on the TV.. place is kind of old, but I had fresh paint in the room. It was decorated nicely. The light was good. I like the coffee they had in the room. If you’re not too picky, the place is a good value.

The only think I didn’t like is no one knew we’re stuff was. Like needed ice but no one knew where it was so I went looking it

After five minutes in our room, we left to look for another hotel. The pictures are deceiving. This hotel is terrible. It is very run down and badly kept. The room had a musty smell and it looked old. The tv was small and malfunctioning. We had a horrible experience. Unfortunately, we lost the one hundred dollars that we paid for the night. I do not recommend staying at this Howard Johnson.

It’s outdated but clean! Very good price and we enjoyed outside tables with a swimming pool! We stayed for 2 consecutive nights and it was very quiet, good beds and A/C was working fine! So many restaurants and grocery shops around, we liked it and we would for sure come back!

Worst experience in the last 25 years. My Tablet was stolen (allegedly by cleaning staff). The room is noisy from the A/C and thin walls.

The staff was really nice friendly and helpful. The pool was great. I wish there would been fruit at breakfast or something that wasnt carb based a bit more variety would be better. The bed was comfy and room was clean. We were treated very well. I will be coming back likely in Aug. It is far from train n bus station though. City buses stop at front door the express ones.

The only thing we didn’t like was the back of the building on one side. We arrived late and the abandoned wing at the back looked menacing. However, the inner yard with the pool is very cosy and well kept. Overall, would definitely stay again!

Reading the prior reviews I was a bit skeptical, but then I remembered that this generation’s expectations are outrageous, the motel was completely fine for the cost.

The property was exactly what we needed. Easy to get to. Reasonable rates. Plenty of walkable dining options nearby.

We’re still staying here. It’s expensive. There’s a pool which is nice, but it is too much money for not a very clean room. Also, the staff won’t let the security deposit being cash but overall they’re pretty friendly when I ask for towels I get them and swimming is fun.

Room was clean. Area was fairly quiet when it counted. 2nd time staying here. TV is tiny but, I used the wifi and my laptop so, not an issue for me. La Fiesta is right next to hotel so, I had a great Mexican meal right next door. Wolf road is nearby so, shopping and much more is just a short trip away. Will book again next year.

Much better stay this year then last year! This this the lights around the vanity actually worked! The only issue was with house keeping quality, everything was clean, but I did find a stick from some incense stick in the crack of the backsplash, and a previous guests shorts behind the dresser! The last 2 nights, the smoke detector was chirping, you would this that when house keeping was doing their daily service they would notice it and do something about it. Im a hard sleeper, and it didn't bother me

A very old motel, but well maintained. The lobby could see some improvements. But the room was actually quite nice.

On the pro sound: The TV worked and had a good selection of channels. The sheets were clean, enough covers, no bedbugs and the room was clean. There was an industrial guest laundry washer and dryer, inexpensive and clean. You must show up with quarters and detergent, nothing was vended. The bathroom was OK but there was just tub with no slip-preventive so if you are a shower person be careful.

It was niece Motel that had eating options close By……

Nothing fancy but a comfort stay. Seems like it was a pretty quiet night there and looking at the parking lot it seemed like the cars were kind of nicely spaced out so I think they spaced the rooms out so you didn't really have another person right on top of you thus not noisy. The heating worked & the shower was hot, those are two main things for me.

It’s an older property but very clean and nice for the price

Gave me an early check in when I had cancer and a broken back in the staff could not have been nicer very Art Deco 60s motive but very chill and cool. Super nice people

First, they had NO blankets available for guests, each bed had 2 flat sheets on top and that was all I was able to get. 2 morning in a row the staff ignored the "sleeping/do not disturb" signs by banging on the door and even attempting to enter the room when I didn't answer. I was in town working overnight hours and this ruined my sleep time during the day. Lastly, when I went by the breakfast room for a snack. There was a mouse just walking around eating crumbs from the floor and even mouse droppings on the counter tops near the cereal.

Not much to say. They allow smoking, and 99.9% of hotels don’t. There’s no other reason to stay there.
