Reviews
The hotel has a great location and unique historic architecture, but guests frequently experience issues with cleanliness and maintenance in the rooms. The lack of on-site staff and difficulties with the check-in process are also common complaints.

Woken up and evacuated at 05:45AM. No hotel employees were available to offer information as we were being hurried out, and no answer when I called on the phone regarding a refund.

Staff were great! But a bunch of water pipes burst and flooded the hotel. They evacuated us to a new hotel.

Very cute hotel! Nice rooms. Desk staff was lovely. Parking was convenient.
- 3/5
The room pretty, neighborhood was quiet. The gentleman at the desk was very kind. Stains on sheets and pillows forced us to move rooms, and the second room also had stained sheets. Half-roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. No extra. No coffee with the machines in either room. Breakfast was a cereal bar and a packaged bread - a snack, not a meal. The desk lady was not friendly. Beautiful building. Could be a nice place. Hope they improve.

Room was cold and poorly insulated with a weak heater. Hotel staff were neglectful of late night noise. Breakfast was practically nonexistant. Bathroom was uninsulated and terribly cold. Bed was very hard and the floor was very dirty.

The room was freezing and didn’t really warm up even after cranking up the heat. Tried to contact front desk and no one answered. There’s very little operational support staff on duty. Poorly managed

No breakfast but lots of good restaurants a block or two away. Rooms smell bad, are poorly maintained and are not reliably stocked with basic items like hand soap. Staff is not always available.

Staff support was great. First room smelled like urine. The building is noisy. You can hear neighboring rooms and water running. Surrounding area was poor. The stay was not a great experience.

We squeezed into one of the few parking spaces reserved on the street for hotel guests. The front desk people were nice and helpful. We got to our room. The couch was covered with a fabric cover and had no support whatsoever--old, dilapidated couch. Okay, so no sitting on the couch. But the bed was the same. Probably the worst bed I've slept in in a very long time. My back is not happy today. It sank in the middle and has been worn down for who knows how long. Otherwise it was all fine, but the only thing I really want from a hotel is a decent bed. The person working the front desk personally came to our room and helped us figure out the TV settings and wifi; so, the service was good. But I slept about two hours and wouldn't stay there again.
- 5/5
A real gem! Free parking and a safe area to explore.
- 3/5
The staff was very courteous, the room was okay, could have been cleaner. The fabric headboard really needs a good vacuuming. The floor in the bathroom around the toilet was pretty nasty. The drapes are not wide enough to keep the street lights out at night and they drag all over the floor which I’m sorry but to me that’s gross, esp in a hotel. It was pretty impossible to keep the temperature in the room at a constant, it went from too warm to too cold when trying to adjust. Instructions might have been nice because it clearly wasn’t user friendly. We had to ask for coffee for the room even though there’s a Keurig in the room and the person at the desk said I’m not sure we have any?! She did find some and brought it to us. Also no spare roll of toilet paper so hopefully you pay attention and ask for an extra roll before you really need it. Sadly we had a very heavy footed person above us who liked to walk around their room a lot all night. The bed was comfortable, the shower was fine, overall it was an okay visit but I would probably not stay there again.
- 5/5
Great check in- staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was right in front of the building. Easy walk to the inner harbor and other places.
- 4/5
One of the slats on the bathroom shade is broken Need to paint the shims used to level the bathroom counter top Difficult to use the TV controls

Had a nice stay at Hotel Brexton
- 3/5
Mr. Wyndham - You should do an undercover boss type thing with the property before affixing your name to it.
- 2/5
Was there 3 days, front staff was barely there and unfriendly. Room wasn’t cleaned and never offered towels etc. Called and asked about a light rail station nearby and they didn’t even have any answer. It was less than 3 blocks away. Only stay if you absolutely have to. The inner harbor is only 2.4 miles away and there are busses and rail. Overpriced for what you got, and nothing like a major brand in service.
- 5/5
This hotel is awesome! Highly recommend it to anyone staying in Baltimore. Try to check in as close to 3 as possible for great parking.
- 2/5
When I arrived at the property I was told my room would not be ready till almost 6 PM because it was not clean yet. Just put me late to an event I was going to and an unforeseen time expense. The next morning when I woke up I went to breakfast and there was a very loud conversation with staff where lots of profane language was used. Honestly I would like a refund for my stay. I have video of the excessive profane language while I was in the breakfast area.
- 5/5
Love the Brexton! We will come back!!
- 3/5
The stay overall was fine, but the room could have been cleaned more thoroughly.

It was a great location to stay in
- 2/5
The hotel architecture is beautiful, but otherwise we were disappointed in our stay. We were on the 5th floor so opted to take the elevator up, but it got stuck on the 5th floor and the doors wouldn't open. Finally it continued to the 6th floor and opened there so we could get out and go down the stairs to find our room. Once in our room, there was no power running to any of the outlets so we couldn't charge phones or run any of the in-room appliances. We called down to the front desk and she had to reset the breaker, which eventually got us power. The room itslef was clean, but the bathroom walls were pretty dirty and the vanity was missing one of it's doors. Then as we were finally able to go to bed, the ductless AC wall unit started pouring water down onto the floor below (maybe condensation which had built up?). It was so much water, that we needed to sop it up with my bath towel (1 of the 2 that we had been provided. There were no hand towels). The next morning, we went to make use of the "provided continental breakfast" which consisted of 1 single platter of packaged mini-muffins, a plate of nutrigrain bars, and a handful of juice bottles.
- 2/5
property is run down and dirty. information on parking outside was incorrect and I got a parking ticket.
- 5/5
Beautiful old building nicely updated. Comfortable bed. Needed a little better housekeeping though, dust under bed and furniture
- 2/5
No cleaning for a 3 days stay despite of requesting. Parking difficult. Curtains don’t block any light. Towels thin as paper. Breakfast is a few very dry rolls, granola bars and bottles of juice.
- 2/5
The room was way too bright and let in the morning Sun. Bed is too firm. There is no on site parking outside of the street in front of. Building. Not many creature comforts.
- 5/5
Super friendly staff. Cool part of town. Cool, old historic hotel with charm. I loved it.
- 4/5
Staff were very nice.

My crew tried for almost 2 hrs to get into the hotel and no one ever answered the door so i had to book another hotel I also called atleast 12 times and left 2 voicemails and never got ahold of a person or got a call back.
- 3/5
Well renovated 1880s building with good amenities. The room and mini-split needed to be dusted. The hotel is within walking distance to the Symphony Center, MICA University of Baltimore and The Lyric.

The place is beautiful. We love older buildings and the room itself felt more like an apartment than hotel room. We were on the 3rd floor. Hotel is very quiet. Staff was very nice. Would highly recommend. Stayed overnight for a concert at Metro Gallery. Easy walk. Thanks again. JJ & Jackie Lititz PA

I stayed overnight for the snowstorm because I had to return to the hospital the next morning. The location was convenient. The staff did a good job with upkeeping.
- 4/5
For this price, this place was pretty great. The rooms are super spacious. The shower was not the nicest one I've ever used and we ran out of toilet paper like right away. Those were my only negative points--everything else worked out great.
- 5/5
Unique historic hotel!
- 2/5
Arrived after 7 hour drive, never been to the city, asked the front desk woman about parking and she was rude. Told us to park out front but it was only 4 hour parking? Then when we tried to check in she was saying there weren’t enough rooms and then was on her personal phone talking about a birthday party the entire time. We get up to the room and there were bugs in the makeup on a pig makeover of a bathroom, stained sheets and hanging cords and power strip. No amenities, terrible customer service, no parking, small room and poor check in and room appearance
- 4/5
The property was cute. Might be better categorized as a B&B than a hotel though.
- 2/5
Room was filthy. Dirty towels. The bed was not made. Trash in the bathroom and room trash cans. Bad area. No parking. Bad check in.
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was both quiet and convenient to dining and transportation.
- 5/5
Nice, unique place.
- 5/5
All the staff at the hotel were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to show us around. When we needed extra towels and toilet paper, Jamar was there to help us out. After dropping my sister off at school, I came back to the lobby feeling emotional and ended up crying. Jamar talked to me and offered such kind support—I really appreciated it! You truly made my whole week, and I felt much safer and more comfortable because of it. If you’re looking for a safe and clean hotel, this is the place. There’s staff in the lobby 24/7, and while the rooms might seem a bit old, remember that it’s a historic hotel. Thank you again, Jamar, and the entire team!
- 5/5
The hotel was very close to the ballpark. Uber was an easy pick up and drop off the hotel was very clean and high ceilings.
- 5/5
Great !
- 5/5
Great place! My room was on the 1st floor. Still, it was quiet (no noise). The staff are courteous and helpful!
- 5/5
Easy and lovely experience
- 5/5
This is a beautifully restored historic hotel. The staff os friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean z and comfortable. Skip the breakfast, it's not much, but the coffee machine in the lobby has nice options.

This was by farthest one of the dirtiest hotels I’ve stayed at. There were stains in the dresser and refrigerator. The comforter had a huge muted stain it as if they had attempted to clean it but couldn’t. The floors were dirty, walls scuffed up and the air conditioner dripped water above the door. We complained about our room and we were moved to another room in which it was clear the rug had never been vacuumed. We left and did not come back. We were forced to pay for a night at a different hotel because I couldn’t subject my child to staying there.
- 5/5
Beautiful place, located in a nice safe and clean area. Staff was available 24/7 and very friendly.
- 5/5
Very quiet, cute building in a great location. I got a corner room with fabulous views of the city on two sides. The spiral staircase alone is worth the stay. Staff was friendly and low-key. The only downside was one of the bedside lamps didn't work, the floorboards near the bathroom had warped a touch, and some of the fixtures were loose like the towel rack. But honestly I have to really dig deep to think of a problem. Great little spot.

It was the worst dump in maybe the worst neighborhood I have ever been to. And it was clear it was not safe at all and the hotel is a dump on top of that. Do not stay here because they are nasty and rude on top of everything else

The property itself appears to be a converted brownstone so its really homey. It has a kitchen that the guest can use and its pretty open. The room was nice and clean. It was also really quiet so that was nice. I worried about parking since it is the city but they have reserved spaces so i was lucky enough to get one everyday. The best part was the staff. Shout-out to Terrell! Everyone that worked this past weekend was great however Terrell really looked out for us. Overall, it was a great experience and we would stay there again.
- 4/5
Very nice hotel. Built in 1881 beautifully restored.
- 4/5
The staff was very friendly, the hotel is beautiful with an amazing architecture and great location. But I was disappointed with the room facilities, specially the uncomfortable bed.
- 3/5
A boutique hotel that needs more attention to detail
- 4/5
This is a unique hotel that offers a different experience from a brand-name hotel.
- 2/5
The hotel was great, however they did provide the room I booked, only one with less beds. Because they were fully booked, there was nothing they could do short of refund me.
- 5/5
The hotel is an historic building, beautifully restored, but along with that goes a few minor faults: the wood flooring can be loud (especially when housekeeping is vacuuming above you) and the elevator is small and slow. I managed to snag one of the few free guest parking spaces in front of the hotel- I think there is parking available nearby, but luckily I didn't need it. The area is lovely and there's much to see on a short walk around. The room was clean and comfortable- if the temperature isn't to your liking there was a space heater and fan already in the room. WiFi worked well. I would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
Cozy, clean beds, room nicely furnished and modern, newly updated bathroom. No complaints ....
- 5/5
We came to the Brexton because it was close and convenient to Johns Hopkins. We loved it because of the history of the hotel and the area. The staff was outstanding and the room was lovely. We'll be back.
- 5/5
everything is outstanding: accommodations, staff, amenities, neighborhood...our second stay, and probably not our last. thanks, Hotel Brexton!
- 4/5
But it is a beautiful, historic hotel in an awesome neighborhood!
- 5/5
We stay here every time we are in Baltimore. The staff is always friendly. The rooms are clean, simple, well designed, and comfortable. Great location and quiet. Clean kitchen with a generous free breakfast. You always meet some nice people there.
- 5/5
Great little hotel close to the Lyric. Went for a concert and wanted to stay somewhere close. Loved the feel of the place. Great service. Nice comfortable and quiet room. Breakfast was limited but did have good coffee.
- 5/5
The front desk staff was incredible. The rooms are simple but perfect for what we needed as we just needed a bed to sleep and then we were out and about. The showers are very very small like a cruise ship. The breakfast is cereal, bagels, juice and coffee or hot chocolate. We really enjoyed out stay and would stay there again in the future.
- 3/5
Rooms not ready by 7pm due to cleaning staff problem. We ended up taking an uncleaned room so we could stash our stuff before leaving for concert. Front desk tried valiantly to do what they could, need new, and more staff on hand, but a very cool old building.
- 5/5
The wonderful young woman who checked us in was amazing!
- 3/5
No refrigerator, no microwave and shower head to far to reach or adjust. The tv would freeze up lots of times.
- 4/5
Overnight trip for fun. A little noisy from pipes, water, cleaning crew upstairs intermittently. Overall hotel was a pleasant surprise. Nicely appointed and clean.
- 5/5
A really nice find in Baltimore. GREAT location for seeing events at the lyric, easily walkable. Clean, modern furnishings in the room. Basic continental breakfast included. Limited street parking in front of the hotel is the only downside. I've already recommended it to others.
- 5/5
there was a bit of a mixup on our reservation, but the front desk clerk Leon, went above and beyond to make sure we were accomodated.....Upgraded our room, gave us reserved parking and even waived our pet fee. Comfortable room...quiet...very clean.
- 3/5
since it was equipped with a space heater I imagine it has that problem at other times. The windows are big and that probably adds to the problem it being an old hotel. I booked it because I like historic ambiance but while the hotel and room was old the room decor was not. Two window shades were broken and could not be raised. It was very clean and the bed was comfortable and the staff was terrific. The continental breakfast was adequate but the seating was not adequate in the dining area. However it might be okay in other seasons but I was disappointed and might look further in the future do to the fact that I thought it a bit pricey for what you get.
- 5/5
Beautiful old hotel in great location. Can't wait to stay there again. Staff was helpful and friendly.
- 4/5
What a wonderful old building! I would happily recommend this place and wouldn't mind staying there again if I ever get the chance. I only wish there had been a coffee-maker in my room as I thought there would be.
- 5/5
Love the old charm of the hotel. Highly recommend it. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. Feels like home!
- 5/5
Excellent boutique hotel with friendly staff. Check out local Afghani restaurant for a fantastic dinner.
- 4/5
Overall it was a great experience. The hotel was located in a great area with restaurants, and convenience stores in walking distance. The staff was very nice. The room was beautiful.
- 3/5
Hotel was nice, it's close to many restaurants and coffee shops, etc The bed was very uncomfortable and I sunk into the middle. The neighborhood is not that nice and the breakfast was very meager.
- 4/5
Always a nice place to stay and so close to Meyerhoff Hall where we attended a performance. Room had some loose baseboards and some of the trim was loose in the room. Know its an old, refurbished hotel that need a lot of TLC.
- 5/5
Great location in Cultural District of Baltimore. Just a few blocks from Symphony Hall and Lyric Theatre. Beautiful building.
- 4/5
Loved the location and the boutique hotel - much preferable than larger hotels. No negative to mention - only niggle is that I would have preferred a more powerful shower head instead of the fixed nozzle in the wall and the wall-in plastic cupboard - a tiled shower chbicle is preferable
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel. Only minor complaints of not being able to get a signal on our tv, only one glass, one coffee pod, no mini fridge for our leftovers from dinner. Bed was very comfy, room very clean, charming. Staff was VERY accommodating!
- 5/5
Everything was amazing. The staff was very helpful with everything. The room was great.
- 4/5
However, ran out of K-cups, so no way to make coffee in room at 6am before flight - that kind of sucked. I could have gone to lounge to get some but who wants to do that in pjs? Room renovated but tile popping off in bathroom, odd floor laminate not finished (gaping hole at bathroom threshold). Door to bathroom vanity almost came off in my hand. Lovely receptionist took care of me at check in. He was the “best thing” about the stay!
- 1/5
The hotel was overbooked and they didn't have a room for me. We were forced to find other accommodations. I will have this charge removed from my card.
- 5/5
I so hate the boxy glass filled rooms of new hotels. The staff was outstanding. The breakfast was acceptable. We stayed in a large restored room on the top floor (6) which must have been the attic. Two seating areas, beautiful bath, and king size bed. A room where if you were so inclined, you could cozy up and read a book.
- 4/5
I came in after hours and it took a few minutes to get them to open the door. The area is nice but borders on a dangerous area (according to my cab driver) so that was a bit nerve-wracking. The room was nice except the tv wasn't working but they said they were close to having that fixed. The staff was very nice and helpful
- 1/5
Worse than camping.
- 5/5
Built in 1881, renovated in 2010. Building is eccentric, shaped to fit in an odd intersection, built before cars were a thing. Small building with rooms shaped to fit in the space available. I don't think there was a 90-degree angle in my room, but that made the space feel less industrial generic. I knew I wasn't at a Holiday Inn!
- 4/5
Very convenient for business trip to U of Baltimore, good price and amenities (free parking!).
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel, that change from the big hotel chain. Very charming place, nice room. I will stay there again. And they offer a free pass parking just front door (if you have space)
- 5/5
Cool looking hotel. Real nice stay for couples. Room I had could use some TLC but I would not hesitate to stay again. Area is nice. Couple of restaurants in walking distance. Staff very friendly. Free parking is a challenge. Hotel is clean and safe.
- 5/5
Positive other than the broken coffee machine at breakfast.
- 4/5
Quick stay, the staff was extremely friendly and nice. The only "issues" were - some of the furniture was out of date (and pretty worn) and little things, like the toilet paper holder was broken. But overall it was nice. Cute hotel!
- 4/5
Hotel was set in a good area. Due to age of the building you were able to hear people in other rooms and their TV's. Rooms themselves were very clean and updated. Staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. The only downside were the multiple stairs into the hotel, no assistance with luggage and parking for the 5 spaces outside the hotel is first come first served. May not always work well as there are 29 guest rooms. Just something to be aware of.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly, hotel wonderful and in a great area.
- 2/5
Nice hotel but in a bad area. I was greeted by a rude lady at the front desk. The bathroom was unclean. Big rooms with couch but overall not great.
- 5/5
Everything that's good about a boutique hotel. No huge showy lobby wasting space. Excellent beds and bathroom. Thoughtful staff. Fascinating history of the building. No restaurant but charming places to eat nearby.
- 4/5
We stayed at Hotel Brexton because it is a short walk to The Lyric Opera House. It is very quaint and we stayed before. It is in need of some repairs, but still ok place to stay. Not too many restaurants nearby and we forgot to make a reservation. Parking for 6 cars or else you have to feed the meter. We will stay again due to location to the Lyric
- 5/5
If you enjoy historical buildings and atmosphere, this is the place to stay. The staff is fantastic, the rooms clean and interesting, and a comfy bed! We will be staying again.
- 4/5
The service excellent , in general people very kind.
- 4/5
It was comfortable and clean, homey decor but too thin walls.
- 5/5
The staff were arguably the best part. They helped us find parking the two nights we stayed there and answered every question we had. The room was clean and simple with some nice decorative embellishments, and the rest of the building was quiet. We'll definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
Affordable and convenient to walk all over Baltimore.
- 4/5
After having our flight to Vegas cancelled & having to book a room in Baltimore for two nights, this hotel was s pleasant surprise. Staff was very friendly and made great suggestions for where to eat & what to do. Room was clean & beds were comfortable.
- 4/5
The staff at the hotel are a joy and nothing Isco too much of a bother. The building is historic and so is more quirky than other standard hotels
- 5/5
Very clean, very friendly and very comfortable. Even the pull-out couch was extremely comfortable (I lost a round of Rock, paper, scissors to my buddy. 2 block walk to light rail was perfect for Camden Yards. Lyft and Uber both easy to access as well.
- 4/5
Excellent choice in Mount Vernon. Great location, and the service is very friendly and helpful. Very Baltimore place. Could be a bit cleaner (it's not dirty), and could ramp up the towel service (washcloths, etc.) , but otherwise, really splendid.
- 5/5
Very nice victorian hotel. Rooms are updated and clean.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
It was great for the price. I would stay here again.
- 5/5
There aren't many hotels in the Mt Vernon area. That said, this one totally fits the city. It is modern yet decorated with period furniture. The host is your concierge and will show you the free bus transit around the city which is less than two blocks away Thr first Washington monument is in a wonderful park nearby. Visit the free and opulent Walters Museum. Very nice continental breakfast. Parking is limited but you are in the middle of a city.
- 3/5
We wanted to like this place bc of the historic building (which is clean and in nice shape) but management is obviously in over their heads or not investing in customer service right now. A sense of disorganization and amaturishness pervaded our experience. We comfortable and within easy reach of city highlights though.
- 5/5
This is a fun, unique hotel that's been modernized but without losing its old-fashioned charm. The complimentary breakfast is a bit basic, I guess, but the eager-to-please staff and that spiral staircase (oh, that spiral staircase!) certainly make up for it.
- 5/5
Our hotel was part of our Baltimore experience. Lovely, but highly unusual hotel! Odd shaped rooms but beautifully renovated! We stayed in the Wallis Simpson suite in the 6th Floor. No restaurant but plenty of restaurant choices nearby. Parking is minimal so we paid an extra $25 per day to park in the courtyard. Very friendly staff! If you go? Be sure to check out the spiral staircase!
