Reviews
The hotel is old and worn down, with a mix of positive and negative experiences reported by guests. Some guests appreciated the historic charm and spacious rooms, while others found the hotel to be dirty, outdated, and lacking in amenities.
- Historic charm and unique experience
- Spacious rooms
- Outdated facilities and lack of maintenance
- Lack of amenities such as breakfast and parking
- 1/5
Arrived at the hotel to check in. The doors were locked, phones disconnected, and website links broken. Someone from the area walking by informed us that the hotel had apparently closed down. We were left stranded in Baltimore without a place to stay and hand to find friends to stay with at the last minute. Words cannot express how remotely not okay this is. The hotel doesn't even exist anymore supposedly.

Old but clean .there is no elevator the steps were a bit much, but very friendly and great location .. street parking free on weekends .
- 3/5
This place was built in 1880. Has potential to be a unique and special experience. But instead carpet is frayed, wallpaper is peeling off the walls, woodwork is painted and chipping, and electricity is scary. Although I understand, it would be nice if they had an elevator. The Absence of parking is a problem also.
- 5/5
It was excellent. I stayed here prior and left a very important necklace. When I returned, my necklace was at the front desk waiting on me. I was so grateful and I would definitely return and recommend to others. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Key didn’t work in outdated door knob lock had to get three different keys before the clerk used her master, blood splatter on the bed room wall never spent the night
- 4/5
Really interesting building and view. Convenient to the Lyric Theater. But I was quite cold, it being March, and didn’t see a way to raise the temperature. But the price was right, and the room was huge.
- 3/5
I like the extra space in the suite. What I don’t like is that they should not put “breakfast included” on the Expedia. Because their “breakfast is only available at 10am and it was just granola bars.....
- 5/5
Comfortable place that lets one relax. The ‘home feel’ provides a no-frill no-fuss kind stay where privacy is respected. Good option if you want to get away from the hype and sterile glamour of downtown hotels (e.g. Hyatt, Marriott, etc) like that the rooms aren’t clinical bright in their decor and is historic. Quirks and one of a kind rooms are a plus for me.
- 3/5
I loved the staff I was not a fan of the lack of an elevator
- 5/5
The bed was very comfortable.
- 4/5
Love this hotel it's very quaint and affordable. My only issue this stay was the lady at the front desk her attitude left much to be desired.
- 4/5
Great choice on a budget. Hotel is old and worn down but room was clean. I really liked the neighborhood for walking around and exploring, a lot more character than the downtown and harbor areas with great food, museums, and other attractions.
- 3/5
Continental breakfast was pretty meager, comfortable bed, but kind of noisy outside, probably because it was a Saturday night.
- 3/5
The hotel was historic and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I am happy that I have stayed there and was able to see it but it needs a significant amount of work.
- 3/5
It is not wheel chair acceptable, for those in that situation. Some of the rooms needs to be updated and better clean such as ( paint, I did peak in some of the rooms and they were nice. My room was just ok for the reason I was their for.) People need to know that this property is a walk up, not good for older adults. Very good location to work around and safe area.
- 5/5
People very nice. The room was fine. The price was right, too.
- 4/5
Nice homely and comfortable hotel in a nice area. Decent street parkiking or nearby garage at UMH. There is no breakfast though as advertised.
- 3/5
Hotel was good, parking was weird, but ok
- 5/5
Everything was fine room nice and clean bed nice o would go back I'm going back soon really had a great time
- 5/5
Room was nice and clean bed was very comfortable only problem was toilet was clogged up
- 1/5
Staff extremely rude. Felt mistreated and on the receiving end of intimidation techniques. Room hot and unclean.

Well, my wife and I were in town to see a show at Royal Farms, a Mike away from this hotel. We checked in during a downpour. Someone left the window open in the first room we were given. We called the front desk, asked for another room, and closed the window. That made no difference, as rain continued to pour in through the top of the frame. We were given the room above, which was dry. However, the next morning we discovered the window pane from the bathroom window laying on the fire escape. In short, the staff is nice, nothing else is, so if you’re up for an adventure in a heroine filled neighborhood and don’t mind maybe or maybe not getting bedbugs (read other reviews), then this is the place for you!
- 3/5
The biggest pro of this place is the price. My room was dirt cheap and I didn't expect much for that price. I didn't get much, either. From a service standpoint, the daytime manager was very friendly and efficient. I'll address the night clerk later. The hotel is very old, no surprise there. No elevators, and apparently- no real air conditioning either. Rooms were a decent size and clean enough, though a little dark due to being lit only by floor/desk lamps. Again, for the price, this was all fair enough- I was in town for a party so when I got home from that- late at night, I found I couldn't get into the hotel again. It was 2am, and I (and another couple also trapped outside the hotel lobby) rang the doorbell and knocked many times, and even tried calling the hotel. Nothing worked. We finally made enough noise to alert some other hotel guests inside. When we got in, we discovered the hotel employee in the lobby, fast asleep. I had to reach across the desk to get the room key that I'd left there, but I really could have grabbed ANY key as there was no waking him up.
- 1/5
I want my money back the am staff very rude and I have bed bug bites all over my body while staying their asked for the owners number they gave me the front desk number so I’m calling and the front desk lady keeps answering my calls
- 3/5
It was ok. A little concerned that the window didn't lock and it was a fire escape right next to it
- 4/5
We found the facility charming but a bit run down in terms of maintenance.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay there again when I go to Boston.
- 4/5
History nestled neatly in the city. If you appreciate culture and loves history then this will be the spot for you. With very minimal update this hotel is a throwback from history that’s closing quaint and Very well placed in the city. It was definitely clean and the staff was nice. The front is in a clear representation on the inside and if you don’t mind walking upstairs you will like the place.
- 1/5
My room was no-frills and clearly had not seen any routine maintenance in a while. One of the CFL lights above the sink was burned out. You would think that would be fairly obvious and fixed between rentals. My biggest complaint is a safety issue. The tub is extremely slick (like ice!) when wet. They provide a rubber mat with suction cups to go in the tub. Unfortunately it is way too small to effectively cover the tub area. At five in the morning when preparing for an extremely important day, I slipped in the tub. The end result was a bruised sacrum and coccyx, and a scraped up and bruised forearm. Upon checkout, I informed the clerk of my accident and why it happened. I also asked that the owner contact me the following day. That was six days ago and the owner has still not contacted me. Apparently they are not that concerned about their guests (or possible lawsuits!). You could not pay me to stay there again!
- 3/5
I wasn't expecting much, but the location and price were right. And the room met expectations, or even exceeded them--roomy, spotlessly clean but old and rough around the edges in what had been a beautiful, old building with lots of character. The problem was that when I arrived (after dark), no one was there--no one answered the (locked) door, ringing doorbell, telephone for about 15 minutes. Another guest was trying to get in too. Finally (after calling Expedia, staff of which also tried calling for me. Thank you!), a man showed up. let us in, checked us in (never apologized or anything) and then everything was fine.
- 4/5
The Biltmore Hotel is a beautiful historic building. We really enjoyed the charm of this old hotel. Being near to Peabody Conservatory and all the concerts, the Walters Museum, the history museum, and everything else related to Mt. Vernon Place was great.
- 3/5
There was no internet station at the hotel, so I could not email my family. The bath tub had no stopper so no baths could be taken. The room was very big and very clean. The furnace was excellent. The staff was very good.
- 3/5
I stayed here for one night. The room was spacious with an additional sitting room attached. It was clean and comfortable. It was a non-smoking room but the hall and stairs smelled of smoke. I was on the top floor and there was no elevator, which was fine for me but might not be fine for everyone.
- 1/5
chatges.
- 3/5
This Victorian hotel has seen better days - about 150 years ago. The price seemed to us high for such a run-down place and okay location. Everywhere in the hotel was cold, and when I asked for extra blankets, was told the "might" have then - which they did, full of cigarette holes. On the positive side, the beds were comfortable.
- 5/5
I has to carry all of my luggage up narrow stairs to the top floor b/c this motel/hotel has NO ELEVATOR !historic motel/hotel
- 4/5
Hotel is conveniently located and was easy coming and going. All services functioned as advertised. I thought my neighbor was not following the "no-smoking" regulation quite literally...
- 1/5
Horrid! We left after an hour.
- 2/5
I loved it at first until I saw how rude the staff was. I stayed for only 2 nights because at check out time on the second day I over slept and Forgot to book my Room online the woman at the front desk call the Room and was very rude to me cussed at me and everything, the guy she had s5andibg in my room looked like at total junkie
- 2/5
I took a chance on this hotel and I was very disappointed! It was older, which I could tell from the pictures, but it smelled old, the carpet throughout the hotel was worn. Nothing about this hotel was appealing to the eye. They had paint cans sitting out and under stuff. The toweling was very dingy! I could go on and on, but I won't! I would recommend that Hotel.com remove this hotel from their site! I must say that the staff was very pleasant and helpful in regards to recommendations for food!
- 2/5
Walls are paper thin and woke up at 3am because of neighbor. Breakfast was unavailable 2 out of 3 days I stayed. No restaurants close by. Felt unsafe in the neighborhood.
- 2/5
The carpet was wet and unclean, the guest next door rented his room to basically smoke marijuana and leave a really distinct smell all over the hallway. There was also a spider in the bathtub. I'm definitely not staying there again
- 3/5
The connecting doors are terrible in terms of noise
- 3/5
I was there a night and the hotel is in need of some renovations. The carpets are in sad shape. But it's a lovely and quiet neighborhood, near a church. It's a walkup so having luggage is frustrating.
- 1/5
Incredibly run down and reeked of air freshener. Woke up with a migraine. Wouldn't recommend
- 1/5
staff means well but this is a really back 1* if that. no bugs though
- 4/5
The room was clean and the staff were friendly. They gave me a place to stash my bike so I wouldn't have to leave it on the street over night. The decor is a bit run down, but in a charming way.
- 3/5
Lacks some basics for example an elevator, and staff was reluctant to help me with my luggage upstairs or downstairs. Strangely empty sitting room on first floor with TV blaring. Need to walk a few blocks for any shopping for groceries, and staff on helpful in helping locate.quiet and peaceful enough, with turn-of-the-century charm
- 5/5
Had a very large room with a sitting area for under $100! Enjoyed my stay with the friendly staff and large screen TV.
- 1/5
I emailed Travelocity about the issue while we were waiting at the hotel but no one ever got back to me. I was not able to check into this room and ended up having to book another room at the last minute at a much higher rate.
- 5/5
I liked the comfortable rooms and all the channels.
- 4/5
Great location, clean and friendly staff
- 2/5
Beautiful hotel but in a rough part of town and staff is not very friendly. You do feel like you are intruding. You have to be let in by staff and it's like walking in on a strangers home. The room is spacious and clean. Close to Mt. Vernon market and parks, but not a place you would feel safe walking at night. The price is reasonable but if you need amenities like ice, elevators, pool, or friendly staff this is not the place to stay. If you do want to travel back in time and more concerned with different, clean or architecture this is a fascinating place to stay.
- 5/5
The Biltmore was very clean and Tidy, for the amount i paid to stay, I would definitely book this hotel again!
- 1/5
This hotel is HORRIBLE AND INFESTED WITH BED BUGS. I slept in the bed for only one night only to awaken with over 20 bed bugs bites to my head, arms, neck, legs and thighs. Once I checked out and told the manager on duty, he just replied "Really?" This place needs to be closed due to infestation, seriously.
- 4/5
My son starts grad school in August and wants to be in the Mr Vernon area, so the Biltmore Suites was an excellent location. The hotel is in an old house and a bit worn, but so were many of the apartments we looked at. It was well equipped with a fridge and microwave. There were lots of restaurants within walking distance. It was also convenient to light rail (which we took to and from the airport), the free shittle to Johns Hopkins, and the free Charm City Connector buses. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water and good pressure in the shower. Sandy and all of the hotel staff at the front desk was very knowledgeable about the area and gave us some helpful suggestions about where to look. There was good coffee in the parlor in the morning. We had fresh towels every morning and the maids were very considerate. Great value!
- 4/5
Good value and quaint
- 1/5
When searching for a hotel in Baltimore I should have read all the reviews first. The location was fine, parking a block away not too bad, but no elevator and no help with luggage is unacceptable. I would not stay here again. The room was old and dirty, there wasn't even a cup to rinse your mouth when brushing your teeth. Not recommended
- 4/5
I booked this place at the last minute for a 5 day conference at the Baltimore convention center. Considering that and the affordable price, I was very satisfied. When I learned which streets to avoid, the walk to and from the inner harbor was rather pleasant.
- 1/5
It was very run down... Ceiling in bath falling down... Air conditioning was set several times on 70 and temp stayed around s 78 ... Shower was cold ... Not a good visit
- 3/5
The room and hotel have seen better days. In it's hey day, it was likely quite a place to stay. Today it is worn down. The room was tidy but smelled as if many years of smoking and mold was trying to be eliminated by some weird deodorizer. The once lovely courtyard is marred by the pile of discarded furniture in the corner. It would go a long way if that were removed. It was convenient to where I needed to be in Baltimore in a nice neighborhood, and for a reasonable price, but I probably wouldn't stay there again if given the choice.
- 5/5
I have always enjoyed the hospitality of the staff and the quaintness of the Biltmore. It is the only place I'll stay when coming to Baltimore.
- 3/5
A good value, but definitely worn around the edges and not professionally run. Luckily the bed was clean and comfortable so I was fine with it, but you didn't have to look far to see rust stains, worn out carpet, etc.
- 5/5
Felt like grandma house....homey
- 4/5
We had a great one night stay here in this unique place. Would stay again
- 5/5
Really awesome antique classic hotel. It reminds you of the main house at bates motelm antique detail borders on the walls, comfy chair in the room. Clean, quiet, welcome home to grandma's house feel. Accent rug in the bathroom. A courtyard out back that, if you use your imagination, feels like a French quarter. Fridge, microwave, coffee maker. Even a faux fireplace on one wall. I've been here on two occasions and I absolutely love this hotel.
- 3/5
There is no parking at the hotel. They did not tell me ahead of time to park at the hospital.
- 2/5
The comforter had stains , the Bathroom floor was sticky and the shower was luke warm
- 4/5
overall good
- 1/5
American Horror Story Hotel but the front desk person was even more rude than Kathy Bates in the TV show.
- 1/5
- Day 1: The man who checks me in yells at me twice while I'm reading the document that I have to sign which is an agreement to pay. I find an error--the hotel is charging me for an additional night. He reluctantly changes my bill and gives it back to me to sign. I sign it and he THROWS the stapled papers against the back wall of his cubicle, letting them fall to the floor. He refuses to give me the wifi code. At 3:30am I have to call the front desk because I can't breathe due to heavy cigarette smoke and my neighboring room is playing music so loud that I'm singing along. - Day 2: Find out I was booked next door to a smoking room, (the rooms have an unused door between them) but those guests have now checked out so it "shouldn't be a problem". I say ok as I'm using eyedrops so I don't look as awful as I feel from not sleeping. - Day 3: I come back at around 9:30pm and my key doesn't work in my door. The attendant says they just had it fixed by a locksmith a few days ago and comes up with his keys. They don't work. He asks if I can wait until morning to get into my room. *Looooong pause* Absolutely not. He goes downstairs and gets a hammer and two metal spikes. We literally break into the room, destroying the door frame. It's now 11:30. This took 2 hours. I was there 2 more days but I'm running out of words, and it doesn't get better. Don't stay here. Seriously. It's not worth saving 20$ a night.
- 3/5
Old building, clean rooms. Worth the value. TV preset at volume level so people with hearing problems can't adjust it or hear it. No breakfast -- very poor coffee put out on a sideboard in the common area. The breakfast was granola candy bars. No chance for toast and jam or a pastry.
- 4/5
The four-poster bed was comfortable although I did not like the pillows that were too thick and firm. All in all, a nice stay and real good value for what we paid.
- 3/5
old, with charm!
- 5/5
A Great Victorian experience nearby Johns Hopkins Oncology Center.
- 2/5
So, the staff was very nice and helpful. The linens were clean and room seemed clean, but the carpets were badly stained and hotel needs updating. Bring your own soap, shampoo, etc as the room soap does not lather. The hot water cut out about 1/2 way through shower. I did sleep well though and the hotel was a good value.
- 4/5
I don't know
- 3/5
I enjoyed my one week stay at the Biltmore. It was close to everything I wanted to be close to. It's in an old building, architectural details galore. It sort of reminded me of a 2 star hotel we stayed in when we went to Paris. Picturesque in a picturesque neighborhood. I was on the 4th floor, which was a climb as there is no elevator. The view was rooftops as well as the very tall Washington Monument, though the windows were rather dingy and there were many layers of paint on the woodwork. The room was clean and the staff friendly, though the bathroom ceiling had problems. If you like to stay at a Hilton or somewhere pristine this is not the hotel for you. If you are looking for quirky and don't mind climbing steps, it's fine.
- 5/5
Desk and housekeeping staff professional and friendly. Very comfortable, accommodating room.
- 3/5
The welcome from some of the staff could do with a bit of improvement - some form of engagement at least.
- 2/5
Was very disappointed in breakfast, Empty coffee pots, Sunny D orange juice, honey buns or granola bar. Nothing hot or healthy!
- 2/5
We will not stay here again. It was clean and the bed was comfortable but those are the only good things that I can say about this place. It is such a weird place with LOTS of stairs. The lobby window isn't right when you walk in so you have to go and hunt down an employee to check in and check out. We were not offered any help with our luggage and the smell of smoke each morning was nauseating. I am confident that the smoke was coming from an employee.
- 4/5
This is an old hotel, but I thought it was very comfortable. The room was very large, and the location is great if you want to be downtown. There are several restaurants in walking distance, and it's not very far from several tourist attractions. I would stay here again.
- 3/5
The Biltmore Suites is a quirky and charming hotel in the heart of Baltimore's Mount Vernon neighborhood. While not fancy, the hotel reflects Baltimore's eclecticism and uniqueness. A very funky place!
- 4/5
This place is a great place to stay for a couple of days. It's old fashioned quaint and the most spacious place you can stay at for under $500 a night in Baltimore. The room is extremely spacious. Two rooms for the price of one. My room had a great large coat dresser for my wedding suits. The bed was large and comfortable, and I felt quite at peace at this location.
- 3/5
This place is very old and genteel-shabby, i.e. worn but once nice, on the inside. If you don't find this vibe charming, you will not like this hotel. The main stairway smelled exactly like the main stairway in my old apartment building when I was a little boy. Very nostalgic for me, probably off-putting for the contemporary-minded. I bet the wallpaper in our room was 50 years old. But we found it to be very clean. --Location was the main draw. Close to the Walters and the Peabody, the Meyerhof and the Lyric, only a bit of a hike to Penn Station and the arts district north of it, one block from the light rail, 2 blocks from a free Circulator line.
- 3/5
Biltmore Suites was a fine place to stay while we were in Baltimore. We got exactly what we paid for - a relatively comfortable room that hasn't been updated in quite some time. There is no elevator, so keep that in mind for ending up on a high floor.
- 4/5
I enjoyed my stay very much! The room was large and clean, as well as very reasonably priced. Check in and out was easy and quick. Lastly, I enjoyed speaking with Willie the night man, he had a lot of great info about the city. I would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
Excellent staff, very knowledgeable and helpful. Great location. Beautiful historic building with art, beautiful furniture, cozy lobby. And very affordable.
- 4/5
I was attending a conference at the Convention Center but the nearby hotels were very expensive, so I was glad I found this place. It was a 20 minute walk away and much more affordable. I had a good stay and would stay here again. There's no elevator, but I didn't care. The rooms were huge. Each room had a fireplace, the king-size bed was comfortable, the view was nice, and the location was great.
- 3/5
There was no elevator so Def not handicap accessible. Shower didn't look new...kinda look busted.
- 1/5
The employee that checked us in referenced that his friend MAY BE IN OUR ROOM!!! How on earth am i supposed to take a comment like that? So, the guy is just letting his friends use rooms for GOD KNOWS WHAT?!?!?!
- 1/5
Then you have to park 2 - 3 blocks away at the hospital. All I have to say is WoW!!! NEVER AGAIN WOULD I PUT MY SELF THROUGH THIS MESS!!!!! PS. RENOVATION IS NEEDED. . .
- 5/5
I had a short relaxing overnight stay. The hotel was very clean. I just wished they had continental breakfast, but that's ok. There was a dunkin donuts down the street. Overall, I have no complaints. There were no bugs and no foul odor and that's all that matters to me
- 1/5
everything was dirty, over 100years old. no elevator. thugs all over the street corners. no parking at all, do have to park blocks away. donuts and bagels for breakfast. WiFi hardly works. no help from staff. should be illegal!
- 1/5
Regrettably for hotels, more than location is important. The Biltmore's "charm" isn't old-world; it's ancient-world. Forget elevators; access is by two sets of stairs to the lobby, then by narrow winding staircase to the rooms. Baggage assistance is not an amenity (unless you find a helpful/gracious tenant). The included "breakfast" is coffee and granola bars. That's it. (A 10% discount breakfast voucher is offered for a restaurant a block away.) Curbside parking is free on holidays/weekends, if you are lucky (we were). Suites? Hardly! Worse, is the acrid pungent "air freshener" that permeated room 213 (presumably others) when the ventilation system called for heat or a/c. Management offered another chemical to be sprayed to mask the already overwhelmingly distasteful smell. Not acceptable. Blessedly, room 213 opened to a hallway window that opened (room windows are painted shut) to let in outside air. With the door propped open, the odorous smell eventually dissipated; but that meant a night w/o heat, for the odor returned as soon as the fan was turned on. If price only(!) is your consideration, then book the Biltmore. Otherwise for a few dollars more, find another location.
- 2/5
In the night, every night about 1 or 2 am, there were party goers who were very very loud noisy, and woke us up. The hotel seemed to be unaware of this. they did call to quiet the after the bar closed party one night. This was not even NY Year's eve. Room was pretty dirty. Floor not swept, windows leaking cold air. Lobby no place to hang out. Loud arguments in the street at night. Bathroom passable. Over-all gave us a view of what is outside the inner harbour, but seems this place is happy to be sub par.
- 4/5
excellent...historic, beautiful woodwork, inexpensive, needs maintenence but what a beautiful historic hotel....
- 4/5
Helpful owner, the neighborhood was good. We walked to restaurants several blocks away at night and never felt unsafe. The hotel is old and needs updating, but they have done everything they could to make our stay comfortable.
- 2/5
Clearly historic from the cracks in the walls, but large rooms with comfortable beds. Also advertised a breakfast, but when I asked they pointed me toward an empty basket. Overall would not stay there again.
