Reviews
The hotel is praised for its excellent location, with many guests highlighting its proximity to restaurants, shopping, and attractions. The staff is consistently described as friendly, helpful, and professional. However, some guests express disappointment with the condition of the rooms, citing issues such as outdated decor, small size, and maintenance problems. The pool is a popular feature, but some guests mention that it can be noisy due to children playing.
- Excellent location
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Outdated or small rooms
- Noise from the pool area

Loved our stay! Beautiful hotel with tastefully decorated rooms. Everything super clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. You cannot beat this location. There is a pool and fitness facility but they were dated in appearance. It did not match the rest of the property. We would absolutely stay here again.
- 4/5
My only caveats with this property was the accessibility to get an uber (sometimes our location made it quite hard to have a rider confirm amongst our whole friend group). I would also note that checking out and getting down to the hotel lobby was tricky at times. The hotel only had 4 elevators, and multiple instances we had to wait at least a few times to get an elevator that wasn't full. In the grand scheme of things, it's a small little caveat, but I would recommend planning ahead in case you need to be somewhere!

Clean and comfortable room, great views, pool and location
- 5/5
Great location, clean and beautiful! Definitely recommend!
- 3/5
The location was great but the rooms are small.
- 4/5
When we arrived our room was dirty. There were used wine glasses, hair beads and rubber bands, and used water bottles. We called and the staff rectified immediately by moving us rooms. Valet was great and so was Micheal Jordan’s Steakhouse. Our bathroom shower had black mold and the vanity was broken and appeared to be glued back together, otherwise nice stay.
- 4/5
The pool was amazing. Food and drink at the restaurants was not amazing, especially for the price.
- 4/5
Good breakfast
- 4.5/5
The macedonian concierge staff was very helpful as he fixed us a taxi when two ubers refused to take us to the airport because we had too much luggage, otherwise we would most likely miss the plane. The windows could not be closed tightly, I had to put a lot of toilet paper in the opening. After 12 days I had to write a letter to IHG to unlock the deposit.
- 5/5
Clean and spacious room, staff was great. Great location easy to walk to other activities and restaurants.
- 5/5
Everything with this hotel stay went smoothly, from the valet parking, easy check-in, staff bringing luggage to our room to the most comfortable bed, spacious room and bathroom, and so convenient to everything in downtown Chicago. Loved our visit and would definitely stay again!

Overall it was a very pleasant stay. The front desk person upon arrival was very friendly and polite.

We liked the breakfast and easy access from the Hotel to the main touristy spots in Downtown Chicago.

First Intercontinental that I have stayed at where I did not get water in the room. I have been staying at this hotel in Chicago for 20 years. All in all, I was satisfied and will always stay there.

Absolutely one of the best photos I’ve ever stayed at!!! Perfectly located and was able to check in early at 10am yesterday 5-25-26. And then today at 1130 am check out I was able to leave all my bags at the hotel until I left for the train station

Great hotel! Clean and comfy bed. Did get lost getting back to the Grand Tower from the pool! Nice place to stay.
- 4/5
The area is excellent and staff kind & usefull. Parking is painfully expensive but this is expected and you don't really need a car. Our room condition did not meet our expectations, the loby begs for a serious facelift.

Beautiful hotel
- 5/5
The Intercontinental is a beautiful building that fits nicely with the other art deco buildings that are a part of Downtown Chicago. The pool is a must see even if you do not swim as it is a work of art. The rooms are clean, spacious, well-appointed and comfortable. The location was absolutely perfect for getting around downtown whether you wanted to do an architecture tour, walk on the Riverwalk, go to Navy Pier, shop the Magnificent Mile, go to the Art Institue, and the list goes on. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and hope to be back soon.
- 5/5
Everything was excellent. The only issue that I had would probably be is to add more power outlets in the rooms so people can charge multiple devices at the same time. Other than that, my stay in the hotel was amazingly peaceful.
- 5/5
Love the pool and the location!! The employees are very helpful!! BUT didn't know when I paid in full weeks earlier, that I would be hit with a $35 a day fee for "state. local, city taxes" upon checkout that required a separate credit card billing!! And I guess I blame Expedia for offering a good rate and then not telling you about this ( we stay there every few years and this had never happened before)
- 5/5
Excellent location-,Clean and Friendly- Right next to a prime Steakhouse on the Mile.
- 5/5
Loved the hotel. Comfy beds, friendly staff, great restaurant and gift shop.
- 4/5
Good gym and breakfast buffet.
- 5/5
Unbeatable location, good facilities, nice pool.

Everything from check in to check out was top quality. Staff was amazingly attentive and proactively met our needs. The property was beautiful, our room was immaculately clean and luxurious. Shower water pressure was perfect. Bedding was plush and comfortable. I did not have the opportunity to have breakfast but family who did had a great experience. My son enjoyed spending time relaxing in the pool. When I first booked I felt the price was a little steep, but changed my mind after check in. Worth every penny for the all-star service and accommodations Literally zero complaints

Great location and very convenient to everything. You can tell the hotel has been recently renovated, but it’s not a luxury stay. If you want a reasonably priced place where you’ll mostly just sleep and spend your days out exploring, this is a great option. The staff was also super friendly and welcoming.

Amazing staff, rooms are clean

The room was great and the staff wonderful.

Great service by front desk staff! An overall great experience!
- 3/5
At the front desk the employee didn’t tell us which elevators to go to, so we went to the wrong elevators and were lost on some 8th floor business area. The freezer in our hotel room didn’t work, we placed a bag of ice in it and within a few hours it was a puddle of water. The door to our hotel room had a broken spring, it was so hard to open and would slam shut so hard you could loose a finger if your hand was in the door way. The phone in the room to call the front desk was dead, so I was unable to make a call to the front desk when our TV stopped working for an hour. Eventually it started working again but was frozen on the YouTube channel. Overall it doesn’t seem worth the money paid. Disappointed.
- 5/5
Overall decent hotel. Definitely kid friendly and a great location.
- 5/5
Magnificent hotel!!!! One of the greatest hotels in Chicago
- 4/5
Clean room and great staff. You can tell it’s an older building though. The first morning we didn’t have any hot water, morning two it was warmer but not hot.
- 5/5
Love the hotel its so fancy and very clean, moat of all its close to everything you wanted to see in Chicago
- 5/5
Great hotel, great staff, great location.
- 5/5
Wonderful and kind staff. Hotel is quiet and located minutes away from amazing shopping restaurants and museums. Will and Keenan always greeted us each day with kindness and a friendly smile. We only stay here on each trip to Chicago. Highly recommend!
- 4/5
The best thing of this hotel is the location. The room is clean. The staff (a slim young man) at the front desk who handled our check in seemed not in the mood of customer satisfaction. I have booked a four nights for the hotel stay in advance. Due to early flight schedule (departure time at 7 AM in the morning of fifth day), I decided to cancel the 4th day at this hotel and change my stay to a hotel next to the airport. But the young man did not approve. Even after I called Expedia and made the change he still reluctant to approve, until a lady came in to whisper to him. This is not a good experience.
- 5/5
Welcoming, accommodating, pampering and regenerating experience every time we stay at the Intercontinental. A wonderful place to enhance one’s Chicago experience.
- 5/5

My friend and I ordered two margaritas on the rocks to be delivered to the room once we arrived on the property. After receiving those and ordering another round the room Service, we were greeted with a complementary bottle of champagne on the rocks. The staff was 10 out of 10 and the property was 10 out of 10 I will be back.

Was a highlight Burt does has carpet in the testing area and other parties left it unkept but house keeping came at the end of the end would be better if there was an attendant near rendering towels

I came with my family of 4 (husband + 11y/o + 14y/o) for a long weekend of sight seeing in Chicago. The hotel is in a fantastic location. It is a short walk to the river for the architecture tours, Big Bus tour stop, Lou Malnati's, and so much more. We loved learning about the history of the hotel. My kids got a kick that the hotel was mentioned on the architecture tour. The beds were truly doubles which makes it a little uncomfortable for our family of 4. The rooms are on the small side, but that is not unusual for an older building. The room was clean and decently appointed. Although there was not a free breakfast like so many hotels offer, there was a Starbucks that you can get to through the hotel lobby. The highlight of our stay was the pool. It is beautiful and so different than anything we'd seen before. My son attended the swimming and movie nights on both Friday and Saturday nights during our stay. The staff offers popcorn and lemonade while the guests can swim and watch a movie on a huge movie screen. It was a novel experience that my kids could brag to their friends about. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends who are heading to Chicago to sight see, but with the caveat that if they prioritize space and comfort, this might not be the right choice for them.

Fantastic hotel. Great pool and spa. Location couldn’t be better.
- 2/5
During booking paid for a room with city view and when we got our room, it literally had a view of the hotel next to us. Please be more clear when people book. Definitely not worth the price we paid. Paid for a view of another building only
- 4/5
Room was small for 3 people. We lacked a chair and no room to place items. Very clean and nice otherwise.
- 3/5
room was not clean and i got charged twice
- 5/5
Can’t beat the location of the hotel! The hotel has an old and charming vibe with a lot of character but is still very clean. The indoor pool is so neat. Would stay there again.
- 5/5
Great central location, walking distance to many attractions, close to trains and subway if you want to explore out further. Comfortable for families.

Location is convenient, MJ restaurant was excellent

The whole experience was amazing!! The room and bathroom were very clean, and the entire facility was well-kept. Great rooms and nice atmosphere

In addition, I had a bad experience with the lead bell hop. I stored my luggage after checking out because I had a few hours to explore before leaving for the airport. He tried to convince me to carry around my jacket all day saying it would just be thrown in the closet and returned in bad condition if I didn’t take it with me. It was 75° outside and this is a basic service of any hotel. He also complained that I had three things to check and told me (falsely) it would be 20 minutes when I got back to retrieve my bags trying to get me to not store them. When I got back, the bell hop did not hand over my bags after I said, thank you and was reaching for them and stared directly at me for 3 to 5 seconds basically asking for a tip to give them back- after they treated me rudely. It was very uncomfortable. And I don’t think this is a service that requires a tip when he just went to a closet to grab my bags.

Clean rooms, responsive staff, wonderful experience overall!

Great stay all around
- 5/5
I needed a little getaway for myself and I wanted to stay at a place that had a pool that I could enjoy upon walking in the building. I was greeted and directed to why I needed to go to check-in. Check-in was super easy finding my room was super easy finding my way around the hotel was super easy. I loved how the room was super clean and organized and everything was just laid out for me that I was going to need. I loved the pool area. I just wished that there was a dedicated time for no kids late at night and early in the morning, but other than that, it was a great stay and I can’t wait to go back.

Quick staycation…loved the room
- 5/5
Room and view was fantastic. Michael Jordan steakhouse was great. Staff was helpful and courteous. Both was beautiful and clean.
- 5/5
We were blown away by the beauty of this hotel. The indoor pool was incredible.
- 3/5
good location. Small rooms, noisy from street, slightly run down. need better amenities.
- 5/5
We had a great time, the location is perfect. It the center of Michigan Ave. We were able to walk to so many sites. The Staff was so wonderful, very helpful and friendly. So very personable. The rooms were good, clean, nothing special, but spacious for the city. The pool area was beautiful. It was a bit strange but there was no staff at the gym, pool area. Not that they were needed, as they had plenty of towels ready to be used. The pool was packed as we were there durning spring break. All in all we had a wonderful time and will be back.
- 2/5
This was by far the worst InterContinental experience I have ever had. The front desk staff had a very poor attitude from the moment we arrived, and the room they assigned us was awful. Outside the window was not a city view or even an open view at all, but the rooftop HVAC/mechanical area of the neighboring building, which completely blocked everything. It felt depressing and unacceptable for a hotel of this level.

Clean room. Friendly staff.

This was my first time staying at an Intercontinental and I was disappointed in many areas. I booked a classic room with city view but the room faced a building directly across, and the description said a shower/bathub combination but the room only came with a walk-in shower and I needed to switch. After filing a complaint I was able to switch rooms at no extra cost. I was looking forward to the swimming pool as it's the reason I wanted to book this hotel, but many families and children were playing in all of the lap lanes with their intertubes and pool toys, and there is no one to monitor the lap lanes. This was extremely disappointing, and they no have designated times for adult lap swim. When I booked the hotel, I paid online but it said $102 due at property, however, when I checked-in I didn't pay this fee and I asked and showed my receipt and they said I was all paid and good to go. I paid a $125/night security deposit, so $375 total for 3 nights, but when I checked out the $102 was deducted from the deposit (for city taxes). I would have liked more clarification regarding this before. I expected a more friendly check-in process to explain the hotel amenities, or location of the pool/gym without having to ask. It was busy but it seemed like they wanted to hurry the check-in process without making a good first impression. Overall it was not a good experience and won't stay again.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel in great location. You can walk to get food and sightseeing. Hotel staff are very helpful. Will recommend to anyone come visit Chicago.
- 5/5
Amazing hotel. Check-in was a breeze very friendly staff and the rooms were super clean.

The rooms were clean, quiet able comfortable. The real showstopper is the pool. Beautiful and full of character that you don't find these days.
- 5/5
The room was clean and comfortable. There was a rattle with the AC, it was slightly annoying. But everything else was a great experience.
- 4/5
Great location especially if you have kids as the movie at the pool nights are awesome! The rooms are small but overall the hotel is great and very clean!

Location Location Location!!! Such a beautiful hotel in the heart of ALL of the Action!! The InterContinental on Michigan Avenue has it ALL. You simply cannot go wrong with this hotel. Price point, location, amenities, the staff, and value for the money make this hotel one that will rebook the next time I travel to Chicago!
- 5/5
Very nice hotel with an amazing, historical swimming pool. The location is perfect to do the tourist things!
- 5/5
Staff is attentive and the outside of the building was decorated with beautiful tulips. Attention to detail was great. My son enjoyed the pool. It was busy for spring break but felt decently clean. Fridge didn’t work and they corrected it right away.

Pool was fantastic. Big enough for everyone to have spec.

Very convenient location and wonderful staff - they checked on us by text, and came quickly when the toilet clogged without reason. Location was quiet even though it was on Michigan St. - must be thick window glass! The beds were comfortable, the room was clean. We didn't have a "do not disturb" sign so we assumed no service unless we asked - incorrect! They come and make your beds unless you have the sign. I appreciated that, actually. I miss that service, which seems to have dropped off since COVID. The water did not get hot enough half the time - this isn't really acceptable - this is an Intercontinental Hotel! I expect less from lesser hotels, but not this one. Also, though there were vacant rooms, we were put on the lowest possible floor without any sort of view- this happens with booking.com sometimes. If you want a view make sure you select it from the choices or book directly. My bad.

Nice hotel. On the negative side: I paid extra for "city view" and all I could see are windows of apartments of the next building, will attach a picture if there is an option.

I love this hotel, the staff is always amazing and warm, and its perfect for a quick staycation with the family

There didn’t seem to be enough staff to cover valet services. This is an expensive ADDED cost and you have to wait for your car for a longer time than necessary. Calling ahead for your car is pointless because no one ever answers the phone.

Hello. My family stayed with you at the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile from 3/19-3/21. It was my first time booking at your hotel and based on what I saw online it promised a truly relaxing and luxurious stay. It was my son's first time in Chicago and we wanted it to be really special for him. We checked in and the associate who checked us in commented that we received a wonderful room with a nice view. When we got to our room, our windows looked right into another hotel room. We couldn't see anything else. We then turned up the heat because it was cold, only to hear the most obnoxious noise from the HVAC. We tried to deal with the event, even though it kept us all up all night. We finally just turned it off, deciding we'd rather be cold than lose sleep due to the noise. We woke up for our first full day of scheduled activities and found we had NO hot water (not even warm). I called the front desk and she said we could wait for a repairman. I reminded her that we had things scheduled and needed to leave soon. She said we could switch rooms so we we had to repack all of our things and wait for a key to be brought to us. It took me an hour and 4 calls downstairs to FINALLY get the key and transfer rooms in our pajamas. We were sadly transferred to a much lower floor. We unpacked and at least had hot water but we missed our breakfast reservation because our schedule was thrown off. My son was excited for the family movie night, but it was a bust too. :(

The breakfast was delicious. Service was excellent. The food arrived hot and tasty.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel and very clean. This is a great location. We were close to many things for our trip.
- 4/5
The room was clean and spacious
- 5/5
The pool is spectacular - but deep! Kids should bring floats - it's an 19th century pool redone for today so ladders only. LOVED the location and very nice staff. Very helpful. Breakfast on site was pricey was excellent. All meals are pricey in Chicago so to be expected I suppose.
- 3/5
Very disappointing.
- 5/5
The hotel is immaculately clean and the room was the perfect size. The pool is huge and beautiful, but I wish the shallow end was larger. Everyone was trying to enjoy the shallow end which made that area a bit crowded. Overall it was a great stay. The staff were all very friendly.
- 5/5
room was clean and centrally located to everything
- 4/5
Nicely located. Friendly staff
- 5/5
Loved everything about it!
- 5/5
Centrally located, easily walkable to all sights. Rooms as expected for type of hotel. Staff pleasant and helpful
- 5/5
We loved the kids movie that was played at the pool. the popcorn, lemon aid and pool floaties provided were great!
- 5/5
The service is great. The intercontinental hotel has to be the best hotel I’ve ever been to.The room was also amazing. The pool was so nice and fun,and sometimes the hotel will play a movie in the pool.I have to say the intercontinental is a ♾️/♾️
- 5/5
And movie night!
- 4/5
Very nice hotel. Suite in grand tower was nice. Not the best view. Pool experience for kids on a Saturday was great. Shallow part of pool was 4 ft so too deep for our toddlers without being held. Overall a nice hotel.
- 4/5
The hotel is in an excellent location, very clean, and well appointed. Really wonderful hotel that mixes a historic feel with updated amenities. The staff were all wonderful— everyone we interacted with was incredible. My only watch out is the pool is unique and incredible— 4 ft to 10ft. If you have non swimmers flotation devices are necessary for safety purposes.
- 5/5
A special thanks to Fredy at the front desk during check-in—check out he was outstanding, very welcoming, and made the whole process smooth and pleasant. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Overall, everything exceeded my expectations. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others.
- 3/5
Very basic hotel. “Amenities” are very hidden and cost a small fortune. Only perk is the location. Not worth the price.
- 5/5
My room was clean and looked updated. The bed was very comfortable and so were the pillows. The bathroom was clean. I didn’t love that the shower had a half glass wall in place of a shower curtain. I knew that water would splash out of the shower so I made sure I put a full towel down just outside the shower to soak up water. The shampoo/conditioner/body wash/ lotion were all lovely. I did stock some of my own drinks in the mini fridge. My room was a king size bed with a city view- though I did get the smallest sliver of Lake Michigan. I didn’t venture around the hotel much and though I wanted to get a Starbucks I never did because the line was always 15-20 people deep. And you could not order from your phone for that location. WiFi worked well. I did have an incident at 9:50 pm I had a knock on my door and then a second knock and the person announced ‘house keeping’. I had been dead asleep and was kind of shaken by this. The phone rang and they said it was House Keeping with extra towels that I ordered. I had in fact not ordered extra towels. They were apologetic and then hung up. There was clearly a mix up but being woken up kind of shook me for a bit. Overall I had a great stay at the Inter-Continental in Chicago and would stay again.

Had a great stay. Can’t wait to come back
- 5/5
Me and my Bestfriend had a great time! Hotel was superr convenient. In and out was a fast and easy process. I’d love to stay again while visiting Chicago.
- 4/5
It was good but the bathroom was not completely clean on arrival
- 5/5
Staff was very nice, rooms were clean, and location was next to everything we needed.
- 5/5
Staff is great and the room is both spacious and clean.
- 3/5
Very noisy
- 5/5
Cleanliness stands out, and our room on the 24th floor was very quiet. Some people appreciate quiet. And, all staff members were polite and kind. No grouches.
- 3/5
No microwave
- 5/5
Absolutely beautiful ! great place to stay ! Super secure ! Best shopping near the hotel !
- 5/5
Courteous staff. Easy to connect with. Great facilities!
- 5/5
My room was amazing on the 34th floor. I had a corner, Jr Suite with a panoramic view of the city. It was amazing.
- 4/5
Clean room and great staff
- 4/5
Clean, cozy room! Loved the workout facilities and location as well as the amazing food from the Michael Jordan restaurant inside. Only complaint was our retractable shade wasn’t working in our room so we couldn’t see the city view, I called the front desk who said they would send someone to look at it but they didn’t end up sending anyone.
- 5/5
Clean, friendly staff, convenient location. Indoor swimming pool. Location is great.
- 5/5
Yes!
- 4/5
Very convenient location
- 5/5
Spotless clean, but the shower in one of the rooms wouldn’t get hot water.
- 5/5
Exceptional
- 5/5
The amenities were great and the staff was wonderful . Our room was very nice and very clean. We loved the spa
- 5/5
Welcoming staff.

Great customer service! Everything I asked for was accommodated with no issue, the concierge attendant Clive was excellent! Freddy was outstanding! The entire experience was to die for!
- 5/5
Room spotless , friendly staff.
- 5/5
Spacious and clean, comfortable bed, great service and staff. Top notch.
- 2/5
I paid for an upgrade and got a room with some old fashion bath tub and our window was facing a wall, too many fees they were ridiculous a 3 dollar bottle of water was 22.00. Won’t be back there anytime soon
- 5/5
Very high end. Had a corner suite. It was immaculate. Staff friendly and helpful. Bed super comfortable.
- 5/5
Everything was amazing!!
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Room was so clean everything was amazing!
- 3/5
The staff were great and upgraded us for our second night.
- 3.5/5
Bed was comfortable. Shower pressure was good. Room temperature was fine. The bathroom faucet dripped but didn’t effect our stay.
- 5/5
Thank you for kind upgrade! It made all the difference. The pool is fantastic.
- 5/5
Clean room, professional staff and location
- 5/5
Lovely stay, clean room
- 5/5
All was great & the pool was amazing! The door guy named Will was the best! He was so helpful & friendly!! Good dude!
- 5/5
The pool and locker room are excellent – – they would be a little overwhelmed if more than eight people were operating at the same time, but luckily, that was not the case when we were using it. Did not have much interaction with staff, but what we did have – – the staff was professional, friendly, and polite
- 5/5
Th people, the hotel and the location were PERFECT !!!! My favorite place to stay when in Chicago !!!
- 3/5
Loud AC. Expensive food but comfortable room. Friendly staff.
- 5/5
Amazing staff, room, location, amenities. Best hotel in Chicago.
- 5/5
Yes
- 5/5
Great staff. Great location.
- 4/5
We recently stayed at the InterContinental to celebrate my youngest son’s birthday. Overall, the room was clean, and the staff was attentive, which we really appreciated. My only issue was that upon arrival, our room was extremely cold. We contacted the staff, and while they assured us engineering would address it, hours later the room was still freezing. We were then moved to another room on a lower floor. While we understand issues happen, the inconvenience was significant, and I feel that some form of compensation, such as a small incentive or price adjustment, would have been appropriate.
- 3/5
Additionally, I would say be careful and monitor the security deposit. You have to place on your card. I only received a partial reimbursement of that charge, and was not given any information as to why. And we left the room as clean as we entered in it.
- 5/5
Staff is friendly and very helpful, rooms were clean. Centrally located too
- 4/5
Parking
- 5/5
Amazing place to stay
- 5/5
Very clean hotel, excellent customer service, we got to check in 2 hours early, we were offered a later check out as well at no cost. Free waters were provided. There is an indoor pool that was so warm, the patio seats were so comfortable that I ended up falling asleep in them for a short while, I guess I was really tired from traveling. There is huge gym, a spa, several restaurant options within the hotel. I like the area as well. My daughter and I really enjoyed our stay and will be returning in the summer
- 5/5
Staff
- 5/5
Staff was excellent, room was very clean and great service, the pool was exceptional!
- 4/5
The pool was amazing. Many of the staff were very friendly. It is well located and the room was very clean.
- 4/5
The hotel handled the hustle and bustle of NYE very well. The building is wonderfully detailed.
- 5/5
The room was very clean and comfortable! The staff were friendly, especially the Doorman/Valet guy!
- 5/5
Clean rooms and sound proof rooms, good amenities. Great location.
- 3/5
Very average. Pool was better in picture than in person. Room was very small, heat didn’t work well, snacks in room veeerry overpriced! Maybe an upgrade would’ve been worth it. You live and you learn.
- 5/5
Great location.
- 5/5
Did not have breakfast
- 1/5
Everything was average
- 5/5
Very comfortable and nice staff.
- 4/5
yes
- 5/5
Nice room, great location, Michael Jordan's restaurant located inside was nice.
- 4.5/5
Did not get breakfast
- 5/5
Always love this hotel! Nothing!
- 5/5
Great accommodations and staff. Rooms were comfortable and plenty spacious! Loved the pool area and got a lot of use from it. Conveniently located on Michigan Ave, close to many things in town. Staff went above and beyond to help us find an item we misplaced night one! Will definitely be back
- 2/5
The HVAC is not functioning properly,
- 4/5
staff wonderful, room great view pillows were less of spectacular, wall paper falling off above sofa bed, cob webs above the bathroom door little things, need to give it another try.
- 5/5
Excellent view
- 5/5
Clean comfortable rooms and friendly helpful staff. Best location for walking around central Chicago!! Would definitely recommend.
- 5/5
Friendly staff!
- 5/5
The hotel is beautiful and wonderfully located to shopping. The staff couldn’t have been nicer. Everything was pristine and clean thank you!
- 4/5
Breakfast confusing when included - hotel charges tax on the top of breakfast that is included.
- 4/5
Hotel was very good but room (despite being a newer one) was only okay. Only one, slightly uncomfortable, chair at a desk. Not what I typically expect from Intercontinentals in terms of comfort and thoughtful room accommodations and layout.
- 5/5
Girls trip / business meeting
- 5/5
Clean room, great swimming pool for families and loved the movie at the pool for kids. Staff was very friendly
- 5/5
Best pool in Chicago! Clean, comfortable, and very friendly staff. Great location. A family favorite every tine we stay in the city!
- 5/5
Clean rooms and friendly staff. Location is perfection!
- 5/5
Friendly staff and beautiful room with a view.
- 1/5
The Mojitos from the bar were great however, this was the most unpleasant intercontinental I ever stayed at. The rooms were not very sanitary. I had to be moved almost twice. Staff did not have pleasant attitudes. However, the manager Malcolm did try his best to accommodate unfortunately, it was not good enough. I would not recommend this intercontinental to anyone. I recommend that if you’re looking for a luxury quality hotel you stay at the Ritz Carlton.
- 5/5
excellent property
- 5/5
Clean room
- 5/5
Staff was excellent. Great location. Pool is lovely. Had a great time.
- 5/5
Spacious clean room. The pool is absolutely amazing. Besides being beautiful, the water is just the right temperature.
- 5/5
Great staff, beautiful view
- 5/5
Pool area is amazing.
- 4/5
Hotel is clean but the executive tower rooms could definitely use a remodel in my opinion. Pool is definitely the highlight of this hotel. Overall staff was nice and the steakhouse was delicious.
- 5/5
Great view & clean rooms
- 4/5
Location was great!
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean room and beautiful building!
- 3/5
Room, on the 22nd floor, was large and comfortable, despite being a bit dark and outdated. Blind was broken, so the nice view could only be appreciated if you awkwardly bent around the (rigid) blind to look. There was also a wet dirty towel left in the shower stall, which seems like it'd be something hard to miss during even a decent cleaning.
- 2/5
Both of our two rooms were plagued by noisy heater fans throughout the entire night, causing us to have limited sleep. For such a classy property of Chicago, we were very disappointed with this experience. Ironically, we were told by the Front Desk staff that our rooms were in the most recent upgraded towers.
- 3/5
Elevators were ridiculously slow and full. Had to wait 10+ minutes to get on one.
- 4/5
Solid. A bit dated.
- 5/5
The room was clean. The staff was courteous. Around 9 am there was loud noise caused by the cleaning staff that was slightly bothersome.
- 5/5
Clean, central and fun.
- 1/5
.
- 4/5
Hotel was clean and very nice. Staff was great only bad thing was our fridge wasn’t working so all our leftover food just had to get thrown out. The fridge was also very small, not much space for things in there
- 5/5
❤️
- 5/5
Clean room, great location, family friendly, and the pool was great

- 5/5
Staff were amazing & beautiful hotel very high end.
- 5/5
a great stay
- 5/5
Awesome location. Clean hotel and friendly staff
- 4/5
Everyone was very helpful
- 5/5
Rooms nice. Bed comfy. Staff ie valets, bellmen excellent. Great check in. Housekeeping also did a great job. Only negative is parking at $82 a tad high per day for people staying at the hotel and only valet no self park. But v convenient. Otherwise we loved it.
- 5/5
Intercontinental is the only place to stay on Michigan Avenue. It is a gorgeous, fabulous, iconic hotel and we love staying there. The buffet breakfast was also outstanding.
- 5/5
Clean, staff friendly
- 5/5
Beautiful room, kind helpful staff
- 4/5
The elevators were a joke. If this place is busy, and it was, you'll be waiting for an elevator at the busy times for a long time. Not sure what they can do about it, but prepare yourself. Oh, and the Stairs lead to the kitchen or staff areas. You can't take the stairs to the lobby easily.
- 5/5
Unforgettable
- 5/5
Great place to stay
- 5/5
Hotel is a fantastic location. Pool is awesome.
- 5/5
Everything was great. Service. Pool is beautiful. Should have someone there to direct kids out of lap lane. Beautiful hotel. Centrally located
- 3/5
Dirty pool, dirty room. Found some dirty suck and trash by the bed
- 5/5
First time in Chicago and everything was perfect in our hotel
- 4/5
Room was dated. Expected something better. Coffee maker was dirty.
- 5/5
The room was spacious with a great view. The bathroom was also plenty bug. 4 of us stayed comfortably for the night. The fitness center is great, if a bit warm, and the pool is excellent. Location is also perfect.
- 5/5
Everything! Beautiful place
- 3.5/5
Rooms very clean. Staff very pleasant despite being extremely busy We had three rooms two were adjoining, but the other one was a distance away. Wish we could’ve been closer together. Rooms weren’t available on arrival perhaps understaffed? We were celebrating Christmas together, so it was difficult to have space for all of us being together. When I inquired about a room for us to play games in, the cost was 550. ?
- 5/5
Love this hotel!!!
- 5/5
The attentiveness of the staff was outstanding
- 3/5
Pool was not the cleanest. Lots of hair and debris. Hotel room was good, and clean. Good location, nice for a quick trip. Would recommend for a quick trip but not for a longer stay
- 3/5
No breakfast
- 5/5
Popcorn all over the hallway floors
- 4/5
Clean room and staff
- 3/5
Lot of little things didn’t work or were broken: clock, coffee maker, soap dish, stripping under door, mechanism for window blinds, noisy hvac. Only a contortionist could reach the toilet paper. Small, crowded lobby. Overall ok but only a 2+ - 3 star property, mostly because of its great location .
- 5/5
Speed of service and comfy and quiet.
- 5/5
Very clean room, friendly staff and great location directly on Chicago's Magnificent Mile. Will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
The staff was amazing!! My car broke down 30 minutes away. We took an uber into the city. I was able to check in quickly, they upgraded our room and accommodated us the next date for a late check out. They were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be staying there again.
- 5/5
I had an amazing time at Intercontinental during my time visiting Chicago. The staff and amenities are great! And location couldn't be better for activities. I highly recommend! They deserve 10 stars!
- 5/5
The room it was super clean, the staff in the check in was very nice. Overall it is a great place to stay.
- 4/5
Great Location
- 5/5
The location is perfect, easy valet parking, check in process was smooth, love the pool area, beds were comfortable and room was spacious.
- 5/5
Comfortable, clean room with hospitable staff right in the heart of the action on Michigan Ave. convenient and welcoming location for those wanting explore downtown Chicago.
- 4/5
The thing that stood out was the check in process, it felt extremely rushed and uninformative.
- 4/5
The bed was NOT comfortable. Next year I might try a different hotel.
- 5/5
Nice place and staff!!
- 5/5
To say anything about an improvement, it would be the shower. I had to stay in the shower longer to get the soap/shampoo off because the shower head & water pressure didn’t allow for a good quick shower. Other than that it was a wonderful stay. I will definitely book there again.
- 5/5
Clean, quiet
- 5/5
Courteous and fast
- 5/5
Cleanliness, location, staff - all great! Would stay here again.
- 1/5
The staff at the front desk were not nice. The room was very noisy! There is a very loud fan that doesn't turn off.
- 5/5
Great eoom
- 5/5
The professional, helpful, and experienced staff made a difference.
- 5/5
Absolutely the best
- 2/5
Room was dirty. Had to be given another room to replace the first. Second room was loud. Heat in room was inconsistent.
- 5/5
Fast check in, friendly staff, clean room, accolades my family with rollaway bed and room with pullout couch.
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
Room service for food was not the best. Food never got sent. Line was always busy so forget calling the front desk
- 3/5
You can't beat the location and the all of the staff was really friendly and helpful The beds were very uncomfortable especially the pillows. The bathroom, while very clean, smelled musty There wasn't anywhere to eat in the room There was a small table but no chairs
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Room was spotless.
- 3/5
Cheap room, clean but tiny. Expensive, not worth it
- 5/5
Outstanding location and services.
- 5/5
We enjoyed the access to the sauna and indoor pool. The breakfast was not included in my stay and was pricey for the full buffet. The location is perfect for walking most places.
- 5/5
Everything! Location, cleanliness, assistance if needed. Restaurant was lovely and food was amazing. Our room was smaller than we thought, but was very nice and clean.
- 5/5
Great location, friendly staff, and clean
- 1/5
They put a $1300 hold on 2 different cards even though I paid through Expedia. The chat Expedia agent agreed, try to call and they hung up on him twice. An email was written and when i went to the front desk, they said it was only something Expedia could do. The was a mess for my Christmas trip and one I can never get back
- 5/5
Nice room and wonderful pool!
- 2/5
The room was WAY smaller and not the room that was shown when we booked, there was no shower door, only a small glass partition which didnt block the wind or water from escaping. we went thru six towels bc the floor was flooded, and that was AFTER trying to adjust the showerhead to fix it. Hotels lied, they do NOT have parking, they only have Valet and its $88 A NIGHT! AND its slow af. On top of that the ac/heat was always chilly, didnt matter how high we turned it up. We will not be coming back here, it was a complete rip off.
- 5/5
Great stay
- 5/5
Gorgeous property with such a wonderful, friendly and accommodating staff. We’ve stayed here plenty of times and it never disappoints. Can’t wait to visit again! Love everything!
- 5/5
Beautiful room, comfortable bed. Easy access to shops and garage for car
- 5/5
A yearly family tradition that never disappoints!

- 4.5/5
Great location and gym
- 5/5
This is a great place to stay if you’re visiting Chicago! Right in the heart of downtown. Within walking distance to Millennial Park and all the shops on Michigan Avenue. Only 35 minutes from O’Hare. The staff were courteous and the hotel is beautiful! I would definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
Everything was top notch
- 4/5
Great stay and nice room, just be cautious if you’re checking out on a Sunday. We were on the 19th floor and tried to leave at 930am but we couldn’t get a cart for our luggage because everyone else was leaving too. We finally got a cart 1.5 hours later but had to wait 25 minutes for the enough room in the elevator to go down, then ballet was another 20 minute wait. Definitely worth it, just plan accordingly for long wait times on Sunday’s!
- 4/5
The room was a little small but the staff was very friendly. The worst part of the trip was the parking AT the hotel. They charged $112.00 a day for parking which double the cost of the trip. Would recommend the hotel just don't drive there or park there. Cheaper to park at airport and use a shuttle, Uber, or Lyft.
- 5/5
I look forward to visiting this hotel again soon.
- 5/5
All of it! It was a wonderful stay with great staff and exceptionally clean rooms.
- 5/5
Great location, right on the Mag Mile near all the great shops and restaurants. Friendly staff. Room was spacious and clean. Nice XL TV. Blackout shades have channels, so no light comes in.
- 5/5
Everything was wonderful; staff, food and atmosphere
- 5/5
Beautiful city view and spotless room.
- 3/5
It’s a hyped hotel, we paid extra for supposedly nicer room, not so much. We paid for concierge parking but there was no true concierge apparently they were short on people or something like that. Nothing terrible but there was really no service and I had to ask for very basic services. Won’t go there again
- 5/5
Great front desk staff and bellmen!!
- 4/5
It’s was ok overall. For the price though there should have been a microwave in the room and I booked a room with a city view and that is not what was given to us. There was a $325 security deposit and when I booked the room it said it was only $96 but a different price when we arrived.. staff was awesome but not sure if I would stay again just because of the pricing mix up.
- 4/5

Grand old hotel, with a great a location. Service is outstanding.
- 5/5
Great hotel, best location, nice and very helpful staff
- 5/5
Great staff !
- 5/5
We loved our stay at the Intercontinental. The hotel is “old”, but well kept and designed well. We stayed on a high floor facing the back, which was relatively quiet (we asked to move away from Michigan Av). The room was spacious and very comfortable. We LOVED the hotel indoor pool. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Room service options are from the Michael Jordan restaurant at the lobby and we felt that the options were limited and pricey. The Starbucks inside the hotel was a great option for a light breakfast. There were many options around the hotel for food, shopping, and walking around and so we thought the location was great. The hotel is highly recommended and was a great value for money.
- 5/5
Very accommodating about early check-in after a travel snafu. The hotel is in a great location, easy to nip out for a quick meal or shopping.
- 5/5
Nice, clean and excellent location
- 5/5
I just love this hotel and it’s location!! Very clean hotel! Will definitely stay here again next time!
- 5/5

- 5/5
Great stay!!
- 4/5
The room had a great view, was clean and the staff and amenities did not disappoint!
- 5/5
Overall excellent !
- 4/5
Decor is a bit outdated
- 4/5
Nice hotel and convenient location
- 5/5
Staff and amenities. Room service.
- 5/5
The staff was friendly and helpful, the place was gorgeous and very clean, and the pool is beautiful and such a perk. We shopped, ate, and swam. A perfect birthday weekend for our daughter.
- 5/5
Bellmen were helpful and friendly. Beautiful swimming pool including surroundings.
- 5/5
Excellent service and room.
- 5/5
Shout out to Lupe for checking on us and for changing our room due to an issue.
- 5/5
This is by far our favorite hotel to stay in when we come to Chicago. We love everything about it. It’s super
- 4/5
The room was clean and the staff friendly. The location in superb.
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
Great service , clean room - as expected from a premium chain
- 5/5
The rooms were great- cozy, good linens. Staff was helpful with questions.
- 5/5
Breakfast was amazing. Room was clean and taken care of. Staff was kind and helpful. Bar. Very fun staff
- 1/5
InterContinental Hotel offered me a room upgrade and I accepted but when I arrived at the hotel I wasn't given the room that i was offered and due to lack of room/beds my family wasn't accommodate and due to the Magnificent Mile parade hotel was completely booked. I asked if we can have a rolled out bed but was declined. So unfortunately we didn't have the best experience yesterday and very upset
- 1/5
The online pictures were completely deceptive and there was a way to remedy the problem by downgrading our room, but instead they attempted to upcharge us for multiple rooms. The same issue was encountered by 2 additional families we ran into during our stay. Reprehensible.
- 5/5
Clean rooms and great location.
- 4/5
Location is great but the hotel is somewhat old and certainly has room for improvement. AC worked funny (on and off), a cockroach came out in the room... Basics are nice (location, bed, etc) but the issue is in the details
- 4/5
The hotel is
- 5/5
Spotless and spacious room. Amazing facility. Great location. Great pool. Very kid friendly.
- 5/5
The room was amazingly restful, quiet, and clean.
- 3/5
Room and staff were all good. The spa experience was not up to an Inter Continental experience. I would not return because of that
- 3/5
The hotel was nice, but its location next to a very busy hospital is a major issue. Ambulances can be heard all night long, and the noise is constant. If you are even slightly a light sleeper, this hotel is absolutely not for you.
- 4/5
Did not have breakfast there.
- 5/5
Great location and service
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean renovated room
- 5/5
Lovely experience
- 1/5
The room looked clean at first, but early this morning I turned on the lamp and saw a cockroach climbing on the wall behind the headboard. It was very uncomfortable to wake up to that, especially so close to the bed. I was on Floor 16.
- 4/5
Doorman out front was friendly as well.
- 5/5
Was a little shocked how much they charge for a can of pop in your room. But besides that it was very clean and our bed was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly, great customer service. Our view of downtown was fantastic.

Spacious room with a large LED Samsung smart TV. Room had a mini fridge. Pleasant stay. Highly recommended.
- 4/5
Room was spotless, the windows were dirty outside
- 5/5
Clean… window too small
- 5/5
Your pool was AMAZING. I had so much fun in your hotel with my mom. A kind worker let my mom and I microwave our ramen which was really kind of him. Your bed was so comfy, the bathroom shower was GREAT. THANKYOU SO MUCH
- 2/5
no good
- 5/5
Very clean room. Very nice Big TV! Very nice view of the Michigan Ave. We got a free upgrade. The room we got was a corner room, but the configuration was little weird. Wasted hallway where the fridge was, so the side with the bed basically is wall to wall. Hotel overall is very clean, staff was nice. Bellhops that grabbed our bag were not as friendly, business as usual I guess, but no customer careness. Even told us it will take 20 mins+ when u leave it, maybe to dissuade us? It didn't! Location is great! walkable everywhere. Walgreens/convenience store right across the street. Fancy restaurant attach or Chick a fila fast food accross the street. Starbux downstairs in the lobby. There is a USB on the clock stand and business table in the room. My room was 1702. EZ checkout through the TV. Very expensive parking!
- 5/5
Friendly staff, nice amenities and a clean room.
- 5/5
Very well located, great bed and shower.
- 5/5
Excellent location. Very clean
- 4/5
It was a standard room. Nothing special. Staff was very polite and attentive. Couldn't find breakfast.
- 5/5
Everything was great except that the room's electrical outlets were nonexistent in most parts. The lighting is poor, and it is difficult to find places to charge electronics. This could be easily fixed with a few updated charging stations on both sides of the bed and in the adjoining suite. Water pressure in the shower was poor, but we were on the 26th floor. The bedding was great, the TV was good, and the Wi-Fi was okay.
- 5/5
clean room friendly staff
- 5/5
Great location, nice rooms and excellent staff.

And everything about my stay!!

It was a lovely room and the staff was wonderful.

- 5/5
Perfect
- 5/5
the staff was very helpful and friendly
- 4/5
Rooms were clean. The staff was friendly. We asked for a roll away. It was sent quickly. They gave just one tiny soap bar. We had to request extra soap and towels. Beds were nice and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was really good. With a healthy and large variety.
- 5/5
great location nice hotel ..super clean
- 5/5
Nice room with comfortable beds and a big bathroom. Great location and everything we wanted to do, see or eat was walking distance from the hotel.
- 5/5
The 1 bedroom corner suite was large, clean and well maintained. The historic building had all the amenities including a 1930’s decor swimming pool. Staff was friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.
- 4/5
This was our second time here, and our stay was wonderful. Prompt service. Very helpful staff. Friendly and welcoming. Numerous amenities. No long waits to check-in or for elevators. Attention to detail and incredibly convenient location. One of our favorite places to stay. Spacious, clean rooms. One request/complaint - the temperature of the fitness center was excessively hot and humid. I called to request the temp be lowered on the first day of our stay, but I could not tell much of a difference when I was using the treadmill on day 2 and 3 of our stay. There were other guests also complaining about the temperature. I am not sure if the a/c was off, but it was almost too hot and stick to exercise. If that had been corrected, our stay would have truly been perfect!

The bell hops were awesome!! If i needed to know anything, all i had to do was ask them.

Hotel check in and staff were great. But it is on a main street and Saturday night it is loud with cars racing up and down the street well into the night. Other than the noise, everything else was pretty good. Solid 4/5.

Excellent stay. I love it. Service is impeccable
- 3/5
It was a nice clean hotel, but that’s it. The staff didn’t seem interested in anything. Not one staff member smiled. We checked in and the staff member didn’t give us any information on the hotel or where anything was just said take the elevator to the 8th floor. And the noise from the traffic was insane and also in the hallway super noisy didn’t get any sleep.

On the other side , beds are clean and comfortable . Staff and Valet were nice .

Clean room. Friendly staff. There was construction. But quiet for the most part. My whole supply went bad due to a faulty fridge. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay.

My family was there to visit the Art institute of Chicago; this was just a 10 to 15 min walk from the hotel. The river tours are within a 5 min walk. There are a large number of restaurants including Pizzaria Portofino, Giordano's, The purple pig, Ghirardelli's and Billy Goat Tavern. The room we stayed in had 2 queens and was quite large, comfortable and had all the regular features. A plus for family's was it had a separate shower and a bathtub. If you're looking for event rooms, I only passed by, but the number of event rooms and facilities looked very impressive, numerous and well organized. I would highly recommend staying here.

Very nice hotel with excellent service and fair price!
- 5/5
Very good selection of shopping options

The hotel is in a prime location. We were upgraded to a newly renovated suite. The wallpaper had bubbles and was looking like it was going to peel. I would hate to see how it looked before. There was dust in the airways and it had a really bad smell. Tomato sauce was all over the phone and table I had to go buy wipes and clean everything. The doorman provided excellent service and made us feel safe. The Starbucks was awesome. I would say clean the vents and fix the walls and smells and it would be much better.

Too much noise coming from the outside streets.

A bustling big city hotel located in the heart of the Magnificent Mile, the InterCon is not only comfortable and convenient, but also has something of a yesteryear charm.

Outstanding place to stay in downtown Chicago

Great spot
- 4/5
Very nice hotel, but they need to work on sound proofing because at night there’s a lot of very loud cars and motorcycles that gather around the hotel. The noise is terrible.

Amazing world class hotel! Beautiful. Top class service at every level. Right on Michigan Ave at the heart of the 🌆

I love staying at the Intercontinental. It is in a great location, and the hotel itself is lovely, historic, and home to the most spectacular swimming pools I've ever seen. I love to start my days there with a dip in the Olympic-sized pool where Johnny Weissmuller trained.

I typically stay at Hampton Inn nothing more, sometimes maybe a little “better”/higher end but never “lower”. However, I found an 1/2 off deal on Expedia on the Inter-Continental @ 505 N Michigan Ave & thought “Ooh..! Inter-Continental! I haven’t stayed in one since 15-20 years ago for something someone else paid for… big mistake. #1 At a Hampton Inn they treat you nice, at an Intercontinental they treat you snooty. There is a level of “better attention” as in if you even look a little bit lost, someone will come up to you and ask if they can help you (perhaps to check if you belong hahaha) no, this lady was actually I believe room service staff and super helpful. So that kind of attention to detail is better at a higher end hotel, but this hotel is very OLD and dinky, the rooms are MINISCULE: VERY small. They did give us a nice high floor with a beautiful view but the room itself is VERY small. 2# The room was HOT, or VERY warm when we walked in, grimy and sweaty and already hot from our long flight with lots of delays. It took a good while for the A/C to kick in. After another full day out of the the room, we once again arrived to find it boiling… & take a while to cool down. I’m all for being environmental - and entering a room that feels like a meat locker/ice box is equally frustrating -& so bad for the environment, as in wasting energy on excessive A/C- this is more often the case in Florida where we are from, but this was the other extreme. 3# Parking is $88/night!!

First the valet….dropping your car off is very congested but we did always manage to get in the space provided in front of the hotel…the gentlemen in front were always very helpful especially Mr. Will but I hated that you had to valet your car every time you returned then retrieve it from the basement….they did allow me to clean/wax my Yukon one evening only to find out they parked it off the property which really kinda pissed me off….for $88 a night I feel it shouldn’t had left the property and if that was the case I could had parked it myself cheaper and always had access to it…..Hidden fees…upon checking out I asked for my receipt and saw amenity fees plus all the taxes that came with it….each day you are charged amenity fees for the pool and exercise room in which we never even saw them…the mini bar….I get that they want to make money every way they can but the prices are ridiculous…you would think after the amount you pay to stay there they would cut you a break but they actually went the opposite direction….also checking in….we had two rooms and they charged I believe $125 a day each room for I guess extras…I paid $375 x 2…..$750 and after amenities charges and parking they managed to get almost all of it and also…the mini bar not only have ridiculous prices they are taxed also…one small shooter of Jim Beam which was $15 turned out to be $20.57….I read a lot of reviews before going and tried to keep a opened mind but it seemed the charges never stopped.won’t stay again
