Reviews
The Ambassador Chicago is a boutique hotel located in the Gold Coast neighborhood, praised for its excellent location, friendly staff, and historic charm. However, some guests have expressed concerns about the size and cleanliness of the rooms, as well as the lack of certain amenities.
- Excellent location in the Gold Coast neighborhood
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Small and outdated rooms
- Lack of certain amenities such as coffee makers and microwaves
- 5/5
It was so relaxing. Older room but has been upgraded and was clean. Restaurant had great food.
- 5/5
I had an amazing stay! The service was top tier and very accommodating! I highly recommend.
- 5/5
Beautiful
- 5/5
Easy check-in with friendly and helpful staff. Perfect location, would definitely stay again.
- 4/5
The rooms were ugly! Where as the hotel was beautiful! The front desk staff were snotty and acted like y were doing them a favor checking in. However, all other staff were wonderful. I would stay here again, but upgrade room… alot
- 2/5
The good: The location is excellent and very accessible. The common areas, including the lobby and bar, are pleasant and well maintained. The bad: The hotel is showing its age. The AC struggled to keep the room comfortable (both temperature and sound wise), and the carpet and floors felt dirty. Housekeeping did not refill basic toiletries before our stay. The restaurant was disappointing, especially considering the many better dining options nearby. The ugly: Expedia failed to clearly disclose a mandatory “recreation fee” charged by the hotel. In our case, it added $142 to the cost of the stay. After seeing similar complaints in guest reviews, I called Expedia before arrival to clarify. The representative told me that the amount I paid through Expedia should be the only amount due and that I should contact Expedia immediately if the hotel attempted to charge additional mandatory fees. Upon arrival, the hotel presented the extra charge exactly as described by other reviewers. I called Expedia again and, after a lengthy conversation, was told someone would call me back within five minutes and that I would receive a follow-up email. Neither ever happened. Whether the responsibility lies with the hotel or Expedia, the result was the same: unexpected charges, conflicting information, and no follow-through from customer support. Based on this experience, I will not be using Expedia again.
- 5/5
Very easy check in. Very clean. Staff were very helpful. Beds are super comfortable. Parking little hard, but across the street on corner there's a lot for 58 dollars overnight a s hotel charges 80 dollars a night.
- 1/5
Filthy, dirty, hotel housekeeping services rundown needs paint attention. It was absolutely disgusting like being in the college dorm room.
- 2/5
Was okay, small room with a poor view, didn’t have the rollaway bed ready had to be requested separately. Overall wasn’t terribly impressed it was an overpriced Travelodge
- 5/5
Great bed love the pillows and covers definitely will come back
- 1/5
The hotel is fine. Suites are nice. The issue is that it is not possible to call the hotel and speak with a staff member or reservation agent. Hotels.com cannot communicate with the hotel. The hotel does not answer email, text, or phone. They also charge you for drinks and breakfast whether you want them or not.
- 1/5
They did not clean rooms for 2 days . Towels were not replaced. Staff asked to see them in person to collect towels . Telephone call were not picked or answered .
- 2/5
What a scam for $350+ a night. Our first room was disgusting; it looked like there was crusty throw up on the carpet and the bathroom was not clean and there was dust everywhere. You don’t even get a microwave in your room. The bathroom is so small. The furniture in the room is so dated and stained. Called the front desk for another pillow and they yelled at me and then hung up, and never brought the pillow. When I called back they’d pick up and hang up. Not a good hotel, way overpriced, understaffed (I felt bad for the employees it’s not their fault), and just not a good experience overall.
- 5/5
Always a pleasure! One of my favorite hotels in Chicago.
- 5/5
Historical location-must visit!
- 5/5
Everything was awesome
- 3/5
The restaurant was not open other than mediocre breakfast buffet. They only clean the rooms every 3rd day. The lobby bar was slow to open in the afternoon.
- 3/5
Valet was a mess
- 4/5
The restaurant was not open very often. Nowhere to have a drink or buy snacks or drinks.
- 3/5
Small towels and pillows, bare bones service but great location
- 4/5
You can’t beat the property for access to public transportation, the lake and great bars / restaurants. The breakfast buffet is expensive at $35. The staff in the bar and restaurant are great. My room was a decent size but not really updated. All in all not bad.
- 4/5
Beautiful property in a great location. Staff was very friendly and help. The room was spacing clean, but all of the furniture was very low to tue ground. If you have back or knee issues, you would have trouble staying here.
- 5/5
Honestly during my trip I stayed at 6 Chicago hotels and this one was my favorite along with the Midlan hotel. Both exquisite, don’t forget to check out the roof top! I almost left without seeing the view it gorgeous!
- 4/5
We just stayed one night but the hotel served its purpose. We would stay here again. We also liked the lobby of the hotel and bar
- 2/5
No water sold in the hotel. Instead they tried to upsell me in a package that I didn’t need. Think you need to change that policy. Our entire group of 4 rooms were disappointed.
- 5/5
The rooms were spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room to relax. The hotel has a lot of character, and you can tell it’s a historic building, which adds to its charm. At the same time, the décor is tasteful and well maintained. The surrounding area is very walkable, making it easy to explore nearby attractions, restaurants, and shops. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
Love the neighborhood it was in. The staff was nice and the room was ready when we got there and it was a little early for check in.
- 4/5
Everything was good, great location. We walked everywhere, room was clean.
- 5/5
Good location- clean and good for the night-
- 5/5
Love this place. Beautiful and quiet room. Good location for what I needed to do. I was impressed. Thank You
- 4/5
Everything was amazing besides the valet parking lady on the checkout day. She made getting my car complicated and was arguing with another female across the street while trying to leave.
- 4/5
However, the shower was awful: not enough water pressure and no handheld shower. That was the worst part. I didn’t like the mattress, but that may be a personal opinion. Between that, the amount of light in the room because of the white cloth curtains, and the noise from the rooms next door due to poor noise isolation, I couldn’t rest properly.
- 1/5
This listing has a TON of hidden fees! You pay for the booking on Expedia and then another fee totaling more than double what you pay on the app - at the hotel. There is virtually no parking and what lots are available are over very pricey. The hidden fees made this stay insane for what we got and we couldn’t even fit our suitcases down the hallways without bumping the ways because it’s so incredibly small. The rooms are tiny, old and outdated, and the beds are essentially mattresses on the floor. The staff was rude at the front desk and explain NOTHING when I asked why I paid on the app and now being charged an additional money that’s double price . In addition, they don’t respond to email and when Expedia reached out, they did nothing to help. This place is NOT worth it! Stay somewhere else. Will never be back and will WARN others
- 1/5
First and foremost I was charged a "resort fee" of $142 that eerily resembled the upcharge that was offered when I booked the room but declined. It was for drinks, which I don't drink, and breakfast which we had plans for eating elsewhere. The desk clerk said it was because I booked on Hotels.com. I call bull💩. I was too tired to fight it and am disputing the charge on my Amex. The room had an ugly brown carpet with bleach stains. The bed was no more than a foot off the ground, I'm 6'4" and this was unacceptable. The A/C unit sounded like a dishwasher running all night and the space allocated for the toilet, which looked like a locker room toilet, was hardly big enough to fit in and I'm not fat. How the hell is this a 4 star hotel? I've stayed in nicer Motel 6s. Never again, stay far away from this property
- 5/5
Wonderful location in the Gold Coast of Chicago. It was easy to walk to all different types of restaurants, go to the beach, walk to Michigan Ave and get public transportation. Great place to stay with kids and family or for a couples weekend!
- 5/5
Very good location, breakfast is fantastic, dinner and bar are great.
- 4/5
The rooms should match the aesthetic of the lobby.
- 0.5/5
Rude staff, no amenities, not even an extra toilet paper. Absolutely the worst experience ever
- 5/5
Great place
- 1/5
The worst hotel I ever stayed at and they took my reservation from Hotel.com and transferred it to their own hotel because my room was broken. Had no water filthy dirty. The halls were discussing with garbage and dirt. There were no products in the room no hot water nothing worked never stay there. It’s the worst in Chicago.
- 5/5
Great experience. Easy check-in, loved the beds, nice breakfast buffet.
- 5/5

- 5/5
Beautiful room! Staff very friendly
- 0.5/5
Old, broken down room, ridiculously expensive
- 3/5
Well its a cool location but its really run down. The room was dirty, the bathroom had hair all over, like all over. The room was run down…as in doors didnt close and the main door didnt lock. The trim was falling off and rotting, literally. It was a huge bummer honestly
- 5/5
great for price. location and rooms wonderful Food/dinning needs much help.
- 2/5
Dusty room. Uncomfortable beds and pillows. No toilet paper in bathroom.
- 2/5
No está especificado en expedía un cargo extra de $189 para poderte hospedar. Es obligatorio según el hotel.
- 5/5
The hotel was clean and quiet, the neighborhood is gorgeous! there was a parking garage right across the street, the walk to oak street beach was only 5 min, one of my favorite stays in Chicago!
- 5/5
Great location!!!
- 5/5
Great space Wonderful atmosphere
- 3/5
Our sheets had muddy paw prints on them and the shower was only a hand held.
- 3/5
The room was very clean and well-maintained; however, it was smaller than expected. One issue was the lack of a ventilation fan in the bathroom, which caused odors to linger in the room after use. Additionally, the bathroom layout may be somewhat challenging for larger guests. When I approached the front desk to request a deodorizer, the staff member appeared inconvenienced by the request, which was disappointing. Housekeeping service was also not available during my stay. On a positive note, the lobby was clean and inviting, the bartenders were friendly and attentive, and the view from the property was excellent. Overall, while there were some areas that could be improved, there were also several aspects of the stay that I enjoyed.
- 1/5
I am very disappointed with the stay; it didn't match the online description. The staff was not friendly, and they kept me waiting for 20 minutes at check-in, and the shower didn't work well, almost broken.
- 4/5
Quiet, convenient location.
- 4/5
With the amenities make sure you use them. Go to the bar before 11 or is closed use the food voucher before 10 other than that it was nicepm
- 4/5
“The room that saiys “sleeps 5 sleeps only 4 and the pull out bed is very uncomfortable
- 1/5
Terrible hotel, when I made the reservation they told me I had free breakfast but they charged me $70 extra for it, very dirty carpet, loud AC, no water in the room even though I was trying to pay so I had to go down lobby at 3am to get water, over all one of the horrible hotel I stayed 👎👎
- 3.5/5
Yes the very hidden processing fee at check-in that I will be disputing.
- 4/5
Room was dusty, dust on desk and chair, dustballs on floor. Did not offer free breakfast.
- 4/5

- 1/5
We paid in full via hotels.com and were emailed by hotels.com/Expedia that we would not have to pay any additional fees. Upon check-in, we were charged $58.72 for an Expedia reservation fee. Showed them my receipt and email from Expedia and they did not care. Talked to another couple in the elevator and also happened to them. Then searched online and this hotel has an F grade from Better Business Bureau of Chicago. Don’t waste your money.
- 5/5
Clean room, helpful staff and breakfast was amazing.
- 4/5
Very good stay
- 2/5
i don’t think we got breakfast vouchers bc that guy was hitting on me and i had to pay $85 to eat breakfast there for one day as a buffet. they also should say something about parking within the website as well. it was $75 a night and you had to use valet no matter what
- 5/5
amazing front desk service
- 2/5
Definitely would not recommend
- 5/5
If you are looking for an above average hotel in a perfect location, this is a great spot for you!
- 5/5
Excellent service and clean
- 1/5
Dirty room, stained bed sheets, requested to have them changed and staff never changed the sheets. Hair and black stuff on the pull out couch, dust on the walls, water stain on ceilings. No room service. Staff not helpful. Very rundown property would not stay here ever again
- 5/5
Nice location
- 5/5
The bartenders Brandon and David
- 3/5
There isn’t any housekeeping services until your 3rd night. We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. It was really overpriced for the amenities. The location was great though. I feel pretty neutral to poor about the customer service. Book if you really have no other options within the same price range.
- 5/5
awesome, not great parking options though. super nice area!
- 1/5
This was the worst hotel I ever stayed at. The hotel is dirty, no toilet paper , soap, or anything in the rooms. Don’t ever come in their room for four days. The hallway is full of garbage. Everyone in the hotel is smoking, marijuana, and cigarettes. The hallways are filthy and disgusting. It’s the worst dirtiest place I’ve ever been. On top of all that the staff is terrible the manager is a liar and they are scamming people for more money stay away and don’t go. It’s the worst Hotel ever.
- 1/5
The hotel is filthy dirty with no fire extinguishers. There’s no soap in the rooms. I had an expensive suite I stayed here for seven days. The service at the hotel doesn’t bring towels, soap or shampoo. There’s no hot water. They do not clean the rooms and the hallways of filthy dirty, and everyone is smoking in the hotels. Then I went down in the elevator to switch rooms cause I had no hot water and I had my carry-on suitcase in the center of the elevator, and the door slammed on the suitcase, knocked it over and my hand was caught in the elevator. I pushed the emergency button and it didn’t work. The elevators are out of code and I’ve never replaced in 30 years is it dangerous situation you should I want a refund from staying at this hotel when I went to the front desk I asked for an ice pack and they said they have no ice. I asked them to put ice in the bag and they refused to they stay off is rude as hell and everyone in the hotel is terrible. It’s a dangerous situation and the hotel should be closed down and Hotel.com should not recommend this as a place to stay.
- 5/5
Great location!
- 5/5
Clean room and friendly staff. I had an easy check in and check out process.
- 5/5
Close to everything, beautiful views, helpful staff-what more could you want!
- 5/5
Location, location, location
- 5/5
This historic hotel is well located in Chicago’s Gold Coast. Front desk staff, bartenders, and food service staff clearly have a customer-first focus. From check-in through next morning’s breakfast buffet, a satisfactory hotel stay. I’ll definitely be back.
- 5/5
Great location. Clean, spacious, comfortable room. Free coffee.
- 5/5
Front desk was very accommodating they let us check in early.Nice and clean hotel and
- 5/5
It was a great stay at a very decent price. Loved the breakfast spread, complimentary drink and dinner credit.
- 5/5
Great hotel, historic with the moderate twist.
- 2/5
Run down property with friendly staff decent food.
- 3/5
But basic room Old facilities in need of modernisation Not really a 4 star.
- 2/5
Room cleanliness was poor - tub and shower curtain with no bathroom ventilation. Stained furniture and carpets. Very small and dated space. Would not recommend.
- 5/5
I loved my stay in the beautiful Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago, and the Ambassador made that experience very nice indeed. I absolutely love the bar. It is, perhaps, the best hotel bar in all of Chicago, and by that I also include my compliments to the terrific stay that works that gorgeous room. Best.
- 3/5
Ambassador Gold Coast Hotel was alright at best. Charging a $150 deposit for the room was excessive and disappointing. The staff was okay, but most of them seemed to have an attitude, which made the experience less enjoyable.
- 4/5
The rooms were fairly clean. Very cozy beds however. Shower head was incredibly small with low water pressure, but manageable. The views were to die for, and a walkable distance from everything.
- 5/5
The front desk is excellent but the restaurant/bar was poor. Waited long for service.
- 1/5
Got to the hotel to check in and they said my reservation was canceled. On my end it never showed cancel no refund nothing. There’s no one to answer calls or messages. Terrible customer service
- 3/5
Nothing to write home about. The location was great, the hotel itself had seen better days. Was clean enough but the room was nothing special.
- 2/5
It was not worth the price tag.
- 5/5
It was a great experience staff are really helpful
- 3/5
The staff was very nice, but we could easily tell they were short staffed. We used to love this hotel, but after this stay we aren't going back. I overheard many guests having a variety of issues at the hotel also.
- 4/5
Good for a one night stay in Chicago. Room was clean and quiet. Only issue was one of the shades would not come down so we woke up to more daylight than we'd like. I don't think I would do an extended stay. Room was on the small side and the beds were very low to the ground.
- 1/5
Everything!
- 5/5
Helpful staff. Some of the fixtures in the room would use updating, like our bathroom doorknob and shower drain, but we enjoyed our stay overall.
- 3/5
Parking basically doesn’t exist which was not advertised. The valet parking in the building only had room if were staying one night so my daughter and I had to drive around and park a couple blocks away. The garage had no elevator so we had to cart a big suitcase down the driveway ramps of the garage and then walk a couple blocks to finally get to the hotel.
- 2/5
Has it been quite some time since I stayed at the ambassador. It has gone downhill, the coverings on the furniture is a bit stained. Everything has a very dank odor, very disappointed
- 3/5
When you pick up to use the phone people don’t want to see a nasty ass hair on the phone keys. Makes you think what else they are neglecting. Wouldn’t stay here again. Just being honest
- 3/5
Room clean Bathroom clean but lots of scuff marks on toilet and on wall trim Front desk staff good Lounge staff…. One in particular was rude Bar was overpriced, a vodka w/ club soda was $27. No wash cloths or bath mat in bathroom Hotel somewhat noisy late at night in hallways
- 4/5
The room was pretty basic and the bed was decent but not great. But everything else was excellent. The staff, the lobby, the breakfast, the location. Overall a great stay
- 2/5
Our room was 1721 we barely slept we complained to the staff no one seemed to care staff was very rude. Rooms were clean tried to complain at check out Sunday front desk was overwhelmed and not helpful either. Will be making formal complain for the price and no rest is unacceptable
- 2/5
The front desk staff was friendly but could not provide an explanation for the extra fees. The room wasn't as clean as expected and housekeeping never came during our stay. Also, the room was much smaller than pictured.
- 4/5
Nope
- 5/5
Had a great experience. All the staff goes out of their way to help. Would stay there again for sure ! Love the library and bar
- 5/5
The views
- 5/5
Great hotel.
- 5/5
The room had a not-so-fresh smell.
- 5/5
Nothing! It was great!
- 4/5
There are 3 Ambassadors pretty much on the same intersection. GPS got confused. Bartender was super nice, breakfast was good, no complaints.
- 4/5
However, it is a great place for a short visit and in a beautiful location.
- 4/5
I stayed 1 night. The suite I had on the 9th floor was clean and spacious. The staff was friendly. One thing I didn't like was the sink and shower drained slowly.
- 1/5
Horrible staff
- 3/5
Rooms are only cleaned every three days but they don’t tell you that at check in. No towels or toilet paper restocked. Rooms are just okay. Free drink tickets at bar that doesn’t open until 5 pm. Gee thanks. Breakfast is Waffle House level. It’s okay but not great. Lobby is beautiful.
- 5/5
french fries and they did not have it even though it was on the menu.. I did not get charged for it, but I was very disappointed
- 5/5
We had a very good stay at this hotel and look forward to returning in the future.
- 5/5
A nice stay and lovely location.
- 2/5
Room has few outlets. Some not functionable due to location (e.g. behind headboard, bathroom sink). Iron didn’t work. Bed was very low to the ground.
- 5/5
The staff was amazing definitely will stay again
- 1/5
Terrible experience
- 4/5
Water inside the room
- 4.5/5
The water flow was week in the sink
- 5/5
A short walk to Lake Michigan, Magnificant Mile in a peaceful neighbourhood. The gallery in the basement is also worth checking out with rich cultural history. Architecture is great too!
- 2/5
Room are very small
- 5/5
Very welcoming staff, very clean building and room.
- 2.5/5
No top sheet on my bed. No soap for the bathroom sink to wash hands. No coffee in the room.
- 5/5
The location in the Gold Coast is perfect, quiet, and safe, and it’s also close to the lake with beautiful views, as well as great restaurants and attractions. The staff was consistently kind and attentive, making the experience feel very comfortable and personal. Overall, I truly enjoyed everything about my stay and would definitely return.
- 5/5
I loved the roof top lounge area!
- 5/5
Location Great staff Love it
- 5/5
非常非常好 酒店前台也很认真负责,并且夜景和地理位置都非常优越
- 5/5
Loved the room and the location.
- 2/5
The room was dirty and staff was very unhelpful. This is the first hotel I’ve seen that doesn’t have a cart to help carry your belongings upstairs to your room.
- 2.5/5
The bed/sheets leave much to be desired. The rooms are also a bit worn.
- 5/5
This is one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The food was delicious. The rooms were clean. The view was amazing. The staff was amazing. I will book again.
- 5/5
Two bars, terrific lobby, nice location, clean and comfortable rooms. It’s a great place to stay when visiting Chicago.
- 3/5
It is a beautiful hotel and the rooftop has great scenery though. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable.
- 5/5
Great location.
- 3/5
Bed too low to ground, no mircowave
- 4/5
I felt the bathroom could use a cleaning. The corners were very dirty and the shower curtain was not secured as the clips were broken so the curtain would blow in and touch me as I showered and it wasn’t clean.
- 3/5
It wasn't a bad hotel. If you are looking for a hotel with free parking, this is not the hotel for you. Parking is a nightmare, but you can pay for valet. One of the valet member seemed disappointed to see me everyday and seemed happy when my trip was over although i never said much and spoke with kindness. The rooms are very clean, the bar is excellent as well as majority of the staff. It wasn't a terrible stay, but I probably will not be staying at the hotel again once I have another trip available.
- 5/5
This hotel is in very good condition and in a great location. While it's not new it has a lot of character. The lobby is very nice. The bars on either side are good. The breakfast in the all inclusive package is very good. Our room was pretty good though it oddly had a very large closet. The queen bed was comfy. The room was quiet. The shower had good pressure. The Internet and TV worked well. This hotel has a lot of history and is in a good neighborhood. Lots of food options nearby. I have stayed here before and will again. The staff is friendly. I felt at home.
- 3/5
Hotel is very well located in the Gold Coast however for the rate paid there are better value options.
- 3/5
The property was good but rooms could be better
- 2/5
I have been staying at the Ambassador for a long time. Since the Pump Room was still there and there was a doorman. I have always loved it there, but lately it really isn't the same. There are no housekeeping services. Things that used to be a given like a bottle of water at check in or free morning coffee are now an upcharge. Details go unattended. The clock in my room was still set to winter time. I have a phone and a watch, so I didn't necessarily need it, but it just shows the lack of attention. On my last trip, there was no body wash in the shower. On this trip, the hair dryer was broken. I reported both these thing to the desk staff and was assured they would be taken care of. They weren't. It used to be the type of place where the front desk staff greeted you like an old friend. "Hi! How are you? Nice to see you again." Now I'm lucky if they even look up from the computer. The one exception to all of this is the valet parking staff. They are consistently helpful, cheerful and friendly. Unfortunately, I will be looking for a new favorite place in Chicago.
- 4/5
Clean rooms, staff was prompt, bar was awesome!
- 5/5
Beautiful common spaces, and rooftop views. Clean, comfortable, minimalist. Enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, quiet neighborhood. Hotel was exactly what we needed!
- 5/5
10/10
- 2/5
GREAT LOCATION - 2 STAR HOTEL
- 2/5
The room was bare and small not what I expected at all immediately checked out like 20 minutes after seeing the room
- 4/5
Bathrooms need some updating.
- 5/5
Gym was clean and the staff all throughout was impressive customer service!
- 1/5
Unbelievable how Horable this property is. Staff treats you like yor an inconvenience and they very make clear "Don't bother me". Room may get cleaned or not, depending on their mood. Double charged me for parking, that was a nice touch during check out. Cute how they said "that's not us but I'll take it off anyway". Fraud and theft by deception seems to be the product offering at this hotel, not Room accommodations. Turn a customer into a detractor, seems that was the business model and they knocked it out of the park.
- 5/5
Hotel was nice
- 4/5
and we were misguided by desk personnel about where it was on the first 2 of those days; encountered LOTS of dirty dishes (including a cereal bowl with a tiny dead centipede in it). To be fair, the food itself was as good as we remembered it. Various other glitches, the worst of which was hearing (on 7th floor) the drum machine (on 1st floor) until 2a.m. one night. Overall, it was a good stay, but not the nearly perfect experience of last year.
- 5/5
This hotel is superb value and I will definitely return
- 5/5
Very pretty lobby area. Room was VERY simple…maybe a bit too white on white.,could benefit with a throwpillow or 2!
- 5/5
I loved everything about this hotel
- 2/5
The room was way outdated, there were stains on the carpet everywhere, poor lighting, didn’t receive my 4/19 wake up call ,pillows on the bed felt like a handful of cotton balls put in a sock . Over all not a good experience
- 2/5
The lobby was nice but the rooms were gross
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Nothing really
- 5/5
This hotel has been a consistent positive experience when in Chicago.
- 4/5
Breakfast staff did not check back with us at any point in our time in the restaurant. Coffee not refilled. No salt or pepper available
- 5/5
Great stay, love the surrounding area. Rooms a bit small but overall a great stay.
- 4/5
Nice location. Plenty of cafes and grocery stores withing walking distance. Bus lines a block or so away to go downtown or uptown cheaply.
- 1/5
We were over charged in the bar by a tender who was more interested in flurting. He told me the new chief didn't know how to prepare my order (it was vanilla ice cream with espresso). They also served 4 shrimp for the appetizer that has a picture of 10. Finally when searching for an earing in the bed I found multiple and large matress stains. I want my stay refunded.
- 5/5
I was disappointed that they did not provide daily room cleaning
- 3/5
Nice place to lay your head
- 4/5
was there VERY briefly - late night check in, early morning departure - but it seems like a nice place and good value
- 2/5
The room was okay, however the tv wasn't casting so that sucked.
- 1/5
Stay away from this place. Old, dirty, dilapidated hallways, unsafe, marijuana odor, dingy and completely dark elevators. Filled with people under the influence (walk-ins that were coming and going to the bar we assumed) dressed inappropriately. We arrived on a Friday night and left first thing the next morning. Will never trust the ratings from hotels.com again.
- 5/5
Great and welcoming staff! Parking was easy. Room was clean.
- 4.5/5
It was definitely an older building and although clean and well maintained, some aspects of the building were in need of updating such as the carpets in the hallways and the rugs in the elevators.
- 5/5
Staff, bar, terrace.
- 4/5
Super friendly staff, modern, empty feel in the room, cool bar area, delicious breakfast
- 3/5
The hotel was nice overall. The bathroom was a little questionable with the door not closing. Other than that everything else was great.
- 4/5
The walls were paper thin, and our neighbors partied in their room every night until about 1AM. we did call the front desk who called them and got them at least to turn off the music, but even their talking voices could be heard in the room. Its a beautiful hotel but I wasn't able to get much sleep so if you're in town for business I'd avoid this place
- 5/5
My wife loved the hotel
- 1/5
Difficult to find the right place, bed was terrible, noice is terrible
- 4/5
Parking was the biggest issue but that’s about the case with anywhere in downtown chicago
- 2/5
The strong wins: location, and the bar scene/bartender. Valet was also exceptional. Only reason I didn’t give it 1 star. Do not recommend. The pictures do it way more justice than it deserves. If you’re seeking luxury, this is not it. And perhaps I was booked in a “cheap”/non-upgraded room, but this is not worth it.
- 4/5
Great amount of space for a downtown hotel, however the room was showing its age with stained furniture, frayed couch covers, and cracks in the wall. Location was great and the bar and lobby are always beautiful. Overall we’d probably stay again but may start looking for other options if updates aren’t made.
- 5/5
Didn’t go, but finding parking kind of sucked
- 1/5
To make matters worse, the hotel did not provide any receipt or mention these additional charges at check-in. The front desk attendant specifically told me my card was only being held for incidentals, there was no mention of any extra fees. It wasn’t until I noticed the charges later and called back that they provided a questionable receipt attempting to justify them. Expedia has also been unhelpful in resolving this issue or explaining why these undisclosed charges were allowed in the first place. On top of the billing concerns, my room was never cleaned during my entire stay, which is completely unacceptable. Overall, this experience felt deceptive and unprofessional. I would strongly caution others to double check charges and consider alternative accommodations.
- 1/5
The only good thing about this hotel is the location. Everything else is abysmal. The amenities literally just tick the boxes for absolute minimum. 1-ply, industrial-grade toilet paper, a bathroom without a ventilation fan, flimsy plastic toilet seat covers - this is a 4-star hotel? There was significant wear along the entire length of the dresser/minibar, as well as cosmetic damage to both lighted wall fixtures, closet shelves were visibly broken and unusable, even a hole that had rotted through one of the baseboards in the bathroom. The staff is clearly not versed in the term "hospitality" and constantly greet you with a dour face and a sour mood. Worst of all, by far, is the complete lack of insulation or sound deadening for a room that has ostensibly been renovated somewhat recently. Both nights of my stay I was kept awake until 4-5am by the sounds transmitted through the walls, pipes, and fixtures. Conversations, television programs, doorknobs, the 20th Century Fox fanfare when someone began a film at 3:30am. I was forced to hear it all. Keep in mind, I had walked over 12 miles BOTH of these days; I should have had no issue falling asleep. The checkout procedure was fast, which is handy, because you won't want to spend another second more than you have to when you realize what a mistake booking a room in this place is.
- 3/5
Didn’t like the housekeeping only coming every 3 days
- 5/5
Great location! We were informed the property started remodeling room. We are looking forward to staying at this property again.
- 2/5
Room was just alright, stains all over the chair looked disgusting, dust all over everything, bathroom was sort of clean. I took one shower and noticed water was leaking out somewhere all over the floor. Streaming services weren't accessible and front desk staff made it sound like it hadn't been accessible for some time. We were left two towels only for two people? For three days? Valet was terrible. No one told us they opened at 9am. We waited almost 1.5 hours to retrieve our car. Our room smelled so strongly of cleaning chemicals it burned my eyes and nose. I will not return.
- 3/5
Would not stay here again.
- 2/5
my room smelled like cigarettes and the floor on the bathroom was dirty.
- 4.5/5
Parking is difficult and expensive around the area.
- 5/5
Very nice very cozy
- 4/5
Felt like a cave...
- 5/5
Overall good experience.
- 4/5
Lobby is beautiful and the check in was smooth; however the room was not great. Dingy, dated, poorly set up- only outlet by the bed was connected to the large, blaring overhead light, so once turned off the outlet stopped functioning. Bathroom was dated and cramped with min counter space. Sheets did not fit bed and peeled off throughout the night. Just generally a very mediocre room for the price.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The lobby and our room was very clean and uniquely designed. The valet parking was excellent.
- 5/5
This hotel was exceptional! Great location, great bar and music, great DJ this was an amazing touch to make it feel like a lively hotel!! Close to many lively locations and at a good distance. Lastly the amenities we great! Really!!! Will book again and would definitely recommend!
- 5/5
very convenient location
- 5/5
Great staff and facilities.
- 5/5
The facilities were excellent for busiiness (being centuallylocated) near my closing and the gym was more than adequate.
- 3/5
The room was cleen enough, it smelled musty, but looked clean, rather out dated, IKEA furnished. Staff was friendly. I was told on check-in that i owed more money for the amenities, which was quite expensive for breakfast and a cocktail ($125/person) the hotel itself is pretty worn around the edges. I was awoken at 715 am to construction on the facade outside my window and was offered a new room for the remaining 4 hours rather than a reduction in rates. Kinda disappointed
- 5/5
The entire experience was great. We went for a girls weekend, not realizing it was St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The staff were lovely, the hotel was walking distance from almost everything, and we would definitely stay there again.
- 4/5
I love the location.. not too close to the city but close enough.. great restaurants close by.. and all I will stay there again
- 5/5
Very beautiful place to stay
- 4/5
Bed is comfortable, state street is noisy.

Room felt stale, like it was missing features. Bathroom very basic and room floors were cheap wood style

I already sent a message detailing the horrible experience we had. Did u not receive? I should have had a full refund! Your team should call me for details and refund my stay. Thank you.

- 5/5
Clean room and had a great time.
- 1/5
A lot was wrong with this place. Some of the lights weren’t working in my room and carpet was dirty with mold. Very dissatisfied in the service
- 1/5
We walked into a room that was 87 degrees. Although the room temperature was set to 68 degrees, the air conditioning was not working. The room couches were also stained and torn. The bathroom floor was dirty with stains. (see picture of bathroom floor). We checked to see if we could switch our room and this was not possible. Maintenance fixed the AC the first day however. The next day we arrived at the room in the evening after a long day of activities to find the room not clean and trash not taken into account. We called the front desk and informed that housekeeping does not clean the room only every 3 days but that if we request it they will empty out the trash and towels during our stay. We were not informed of this at check in to request in advance. I asked for someone to bring up trash bags and exchange the towels. We emptied out the trash and obtained clean towels. We notified the front desk that we wanted the trash to be taken out and clean towels the rest of the stay. This did not happen. We cleaned the bathroom and the room ourselves and obtained towels from housekeeping during the duration of the stay. For the price we paid for the room, the service and condition of the room was not acceptable. And nothing was done to rectify the situation.
- 3/5
Room was small but cozy. Staff was kind and helpful. It was hard to find parking and all close parking was very expensive. Evening bar and breakfast was very nice.
- 5/5
Great hotel with great location. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Great hotel! I loved the location and the hotel was very nice. It was clean and service was great. Also breakfast was delicious and an added bonus!
- 4/5
Love the stay
- 5/5
Great hotel at an affordable price
- 4/5
Front desk was very pleasant and helpful. Roomwas a bit smaller than expected.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and the included restaurant credit is great. We enjoyed the drinks there. This is in a nice and more quiet part of downtown Chicago. The rooftop was nice and had a nice view.
- 5/5
Very clean comfortable rooms.
- 4/5
The staff are Nice specially Maya. I had a smooth checked in with her. I giver her 5 ⭐️, but the room that we stayed in was kinda dirty, you can see the dried splashed of juice or coffee on the wall bathroom, the keycard holder inserted at the TV corner from the previous people who stayed in that room as well as the floor that there’s confettis everywhere, but overall we had a good stay and I’m happy that for the fourth time I stayed in this hotel our room has carpet. We can walk barefoot.
- 5/5
Yes great service love the breakfast

Spotless but the floor needs carpet. Floor is cold and when you walking barefoot, feels like your feet gets dirty easily.

Amazing character, great service.

Needs a big update. Price reflects quality of hotel. Carpets look like they have never been cleaned, chairs in room are stained and some rooms smell like smoke. I had to change rooms 3 times to get a half way decent room.
- 5/5
Great trip
- 3/5
This hotel is not as updated as the photos show. The lobby is done well, but the interior hallways and our room at least had a more surface-level renovation. Old rusted hinges, old wires that had been painted over, and lumpy wallpaper all contributed to the feeling that the place was a little run-down, which is not what I expected based on the photos.
- 5/5
Solid stay in a great part of town
- 5/5
Love it! I'll stay here anytime I visit Chicago. The location is so wonderful, in the heart of Gold Coast and surrounded by beautiful architecture, the lake, and high rises. The room was very minimalistic but cozy and everything I needed. The bar at The Ambassador is one of my favorites in Chicago. Overall, a great stay and I can't wait to return.
- 4/5
The room, however, had some issues. The platform bed was not comfortable and completel too low to the ground for older guests bad knees. The bathroom sink did not drain at all. Carpet was dirty with multiple spots. We’ve the location- please update rooms!!
- 5/5
Everything was excellent
- 5/5
Beautiful
- 5/5
The room was amazing, I checked in at nearly midnight, I was wished a happy birthday and given several complimentary amenities. Unfortunately I couldn't use them as I was in severe pain after walking from the hotel that I had made reservations at 3days earlier and being rejected(because they didn't like my bank for the deposit,) The hotel collection Ambassador Gold Coast is on my list of places I will stay when I visit My City.
- 3/5
Otherwise, I would’ve been very pleased with our stay. The first floor was well appointed and gorgeous. I could’ve hung here all evening except that we didn’t have a spare minute during this trip (so don’t charge me for amenities I’m not going to use.) The room was spacious. It was comfy and everything worked well. Truly it would’ve been a great experience – minus the huge, hidden fee. Also, you can park in a valeted garage on the BACK SIDE of the hotel for half the cost of valet and less than the self-park lot they will point you to catty-corner to the front door. There are several great restaurants very close. We were able to walk to Second City easily from there. It’s a charming neighborhood.

Courteous staff
- 4/5
Rooms are a bit tired and bathroom is tired and very small.
- 5/5
Our only complaint was that we were unable to speak to a real person earlier in the day of our checkin. It was voice mail hell. That was really frustrating.
- 5/5
Beautiful views. Spacious room.
- 4/5
Room was clean with a large bathroom and nice window light
- 4/5
Still, I would recommend the hotel based on its vicinity and rich history. It was also not expensive, but that fluctuates weekly.
- 2/5
After a long exhausting trip, I wanted to slip into clean comfortable sheets, only to find my feet on a mattress pad. The bottom sheet was short from the edge of the bed causing my feet to get tangled in a cluster. It was late. The lounge lobby had empty bar glasses/napkins scattered everywhere. If they aren't concerned about the after rave party....looking like a hung over new years eve day after disaster... What makes you think a short sheet on a bed is going to be corrected??
- 5/5
check in was smooth. staff was attentive
- 5/5
Great location. Incredible ground floor meeting/ work space.
- 4/5
Good deal, clean rooms. The free breakfast that is included was also pretty good. I found this hotel to be a good value.
- 5/5
Excellent value great locations lots of areas to sit and relax. Staff very nice and excellent breakfast
- 5/5
The room was perfect service excellent 👌
- 5/5
Clean room, the staff was very nice! I highly recommend this place. Lots of history
- 5/5
Great breakfast!
- 1/5
Terrible
- 5/5
Aside from a stain on the carpet the room was perfect
- 5/5
Everything was great! Only complaint was the loud rap music at dinner which made it less enjoyable.
- 5/5
Staff was welcoming, from valet to front desk, I was greeted with smile and positive attitude. We had great perks with our stay, drinks, dinner and breakfast vouchers.
- 4/5
The hotel was nice. The Concierge was wonderful. She didn't have the room that I booked, so right off the bat she gave me a free upgrade, which was greatly appreciated. I loved the bathtub. It wasn't a jacuzzi tub, but it wasn't the small, standard size tub that many tooms have. It was actually a deep tub and much more accommodating for am adult! The room had a separate living room and bedroom, with actual locking doors in between, which was ideal. A fill sized, walk in closet and full size, floor to nearly ceiling, length mirror. The room had not one, but 2 doors to exit out of and the bedroom had a king size bed, desk and chair, as well as bedroom furniture. There was a flat screen TV in both the living room and bedroom. I was very happy. Strangly though, there aren't isn't a vending machine anywhere within the hotel to be able to get a small or drink after hours. Valet parking is outrageous, but it's convenient! I'll definitely stay there again!
- 1/5
Room was dirty. Hair all over the bathroom when i arrived. I cleaned the bathroom myself. There waa trash from previous guest left on floor around the platform bed. For the price of this hotel i should ot be cleaning my on room. When tbe hotel has a PAID staff for this purpose. Very disappointed.
- 3/5
Rooms are clean, simply decorated, decently sized. You will hear room-adjacent plumbing. Guest fees are high ($99 for 6 bottles of water … didn’t use drink coupons or bfast). Staff clearly just tolerate jobs. I was “nodded” to just leave room key at desk in am vs a formal checkout. Great location. Valet efficient.
- 5/5
Clean room, easy check in. Bar was excellent with great food options
- 4/5
Clean room and friendly staff

Which after a long day and flight to the states. Was the last thing we needed, something that hindered rest.

A wonderful cozy street to enjoy in a classy neighborhood.

Very nice room. Great bar. Enjoyed my stay so much i will look for this property first, next time im in town.
- 5/5
Clean room|the food in the hotel was delicious|

Con: Room was freezing and unable to turn of AC. When called operator was told no extra blankets. But someone came up to turn of AC and raise heat. No concierge. All in all would definitely go back and stay.

Hotel needs to vacuum and update hallways. Food and wine options at bar are lacking. Solid breakfast. Overall, a great deal for what you get. Great location.

Historic hotel that has changed ownership a few times. Not perfect experience but one ofnthr best for the value in the downtown chicago area.

Amazing
- 1/5
At check-in, I was hit with a surprise $99 per night “fee” that was never mentioned during booking—completely misleading. To make matters worse, there were bogus dinner and drink charges added to my final bill for items I never ordered, and the front desk staff was unhelpful when I tried to get it resolved. For the price, this hotel is absolutely not worth it. Poor cleanliness, hidden fees, and terrible customer service — I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it to anyone.
- 2/5
Room wasn’t clean, a lot of dust around the furniture, everything is very old and a few things doesn’t work well. No service at the room and very hard to get towels and toilet paper. I won’t use this hotel next time
- 5/5
Amazing hotel
- 3/5
What i need to mention is what i cam back after the fist night , i found my room had not been cleaned . When i inquiried at reception they said well you did'nt ask for ... Never seen/heard anything similar in a 3 stars hotel in 45 years of traveling . So it's up to you to do what you need to do with this , but honestly I will never stay again there and will probably make direct reservations from now on on hotel chains I have already experienced . Btw i was promised a discount for my room not done , discount which was not applied. In summary this is a hotel where they probably do not expect customers to come back and they know they will alsways be full because Chicago is a very visited city. Enough said on this bad experience.
- 5/5
Clean room! Large room! Delicious breakfast included!
- 5/5
I had a good experience staying at this hotel, I have stayed here before and have had good experiences. Hotel is quiet, clean, friendly staff and a great location near mag mile. I will stay here again in future trips.
- 5/5
Very nice and historic place.
- 5/5
Room’s not spacious but still okay but can be better on vaccumm
- 3/5
There was a pile of crumbs in the hallway close to the elevator on the floor where our room was that was there the entire four days of our stay, despite the fact that we called it to the attention of both the reception clerk and a maid.
- 5/5
We really enjoyed our stay in Chicago at The Chicago Hotel. Check in was really quick and easy. At check in we were handed 6 bottles of water, 2 drink coupons and 2 breakfast coupons which was such a bonus! Our room was extremely comfortable (space wise, pillows and beds!). We were very impressed with how quiet the room was. We didnt hear any noise all night long. We slept great! Waking up after such a great nights sleep to the breakfasts buffet was a treat! The food was great and the dining area was very well attended considering how crowded it was. Our next visit to Chicago will definitely include a stay in the beautiful neighborhood of Gold Coast!
- 4/5
The rooms of the hotel are a bit older but you can tell they do their best to keep them clean. Our tv didn’t work so that was a negative even though maintenance tried to fix it. I appreciated the breakfast coupons for morning buffet and complimentary water bottles too. The best part was the short walk to the lakefront. The worst part was the horrible parking situation.
- 5/5
Amazing hotel and service!

Clean/Big room
- 5/5
The facility amazing, the staff the amenities were all fantastic
- 4/5
All was excellent
- 5/5
Particularly liked the helpful staff
- 5/5
The entire vibe here is comfortable. It's nice to be in a neighborhood rather than on a busy and loud road. Restaurant on sight is a treat!
- 5/5
Room and breakfast fantastic!
- 5/5
Hotel is an Iconic one full of history. Beautiful reception area and Bar/ Restaurant. Full buffet breakfast was excellent.
- 5/5
Location was great! Walking distance to the Red line CTA station, which we took all over town. The free breakfast was restaurant quality, well beyond a typical hotel breakfast. The bar was lively and fun, so the 2 free drinks were a nice plus.
- 4/5
Designer shops in the area. Beach in walking proximity. Beautiful rooftop view.
- 5/5
Clean great location
- 5/5
The best hotel stay! Perfect location
- 5/5
great location, excellent breakfast, drink and dinner comps.
- 4/5
A stunning hotel lobby, inviting hotel bar, and excellent hotel breakfast buffet made for a great spot for us to land on our two night Chicago trip. We took the bus everywhere from nearby the hotel, so being a little farther north was not a bother to us on our sight seeing. It was nice to be couched in an area of local apartments and shops for locals (not necessarily tourists). It was a beautiful, leafy neighborhood to be in during late summer. Our room had cool design, a little wear on the carpet, and a comfortable, clean bed and bathroom. We'd stay here again.
- 5/5
This was a great stay! All inclusive and it was a nice spot in the Gold Coast. Clean, and beautiful inside.
- 3/5
I travel to Chicago regularly and the Ambassador is my preferred hotel. However, this time was different. The front desk staff seemed frazzled and unwelcoming. In my room, the body wash and the tissues were empty. I couldn't call the front desk because phones have been removed from the rooms. I stayed two nights and received no housekeeping services. So the problems in my room were not fixed. It's still the same beautiful hotel, but staffing problems seem to be an issue.
- 4/5
The location was perfect for us as we were visiting our daughter who lives on the same street as the hotel. The main/common areas of the hotel are very nice, but the rooms are just ok, and the bathroom was every small. I will stay here again based on location.
- 2/5
Long lines, disgruntled staff, cigarette smoking residue in a non-smoking room and a broken AC. Shout out to the maintenance man who came to my room at 9:30 and fixed the air conditioner and brought air freshener. Great breakfast, and they do give you a bag filled with water. Wasn’t my first choice, not sure I will be back anytime soon. The hotel industry is still adapting post Covid and it shows.
- 5/5
The guess service was nice and the property was very well maintained and managed
- 5/5
The location is near Lake Shore Drive. Can easily access the lake by walking.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel, close to the Magnificent Mile. It had good breakfast buffet. The parking was close even though on a separate parking lot.
- 5/5
Great classic place to stay
- 2/5
Hidden fees within booking. $150 Charge for drink and breakfast tickets that you will never use. I overheard a few guests complaining about it too
- 5/5
Loved it
- 3/5
Total bait and switch with drink and food coupons that we did not want or need. I would not recommend this hotel. Great location but several more options close by.
- 2/5
We stayed for 3 nights, and the cleaning staff never showed up once. The carpet conditions were terrible; if you have allergies, better to keep your distance.
- 4/5
The area the property is located in was very nice. The staff was friendly and courteous. I liked the meal credits we received during our stay. The restaurant was good as well. I especially loved the hotel's decor. The rooms are a bit dated and the walls are extremely thin. I could hear my neighbors the entire time I was there.
- 1/5
I do not recommend to get a room by the elevator. It is very loud!!
- 4/5
$ was a steal. but sad it’s so neglected. Hallways needed a vacuum. Rooms are decent but carpet is old. First room smelled of mold/musty. Front desk changed immediately. Breakfast staff was very nice. For the price- a deal to accept the neglect of such an iconic hotel. Great location.
- 5/5
Good staff! Good rooms! Good bar
- 5/5
Great location
- 4/5
Absolutely beautiful area, and only a short walk to the beach and city.
- 5/5
Comfortable beds. Great drinks, friendly staff
- 3/5
Beautiful lobby and restaurant. Rooms are fairly spacious. The check in/check out process was long and needs work. The line was out of the door for check in with only one person working the majority of the time. Breakfast included was a nice perk and parking wasn’t too high.
- 4/5
We had a nice stay.
- 5/5
Staff was great and loved the breakfast and location!
- 2/5
The location was great, and I was super excited to stay at the Ambassador Chicago. Unfortunately, our stay was overshadowed by the ceiling in the bathroom leaking all weekend, the floor around the toilet was flooding, and the thermostat wouldn't work.
- 2/5
The carpet had multiple large stains it was very gross to look at. The shower was a handheld shower head. The sink was a flat top and anything you washed off just sat at the surface. It was really not what I expected for what I paid
- 1/5
They charge a 120 dollar resort fee daily. Which I wasn’t aware of until it was too late. Dirty. Old. Filthy carpets. Slow drains. Very grungy. Terrible food. Service subpar. Watched employee at the counter mess on her phone without acknowledging there were people standing there to be helped! Clearly ignoring customers. Eventually another employee stepped in and started helping people. Another employee told me they couldn’t add on a night for me and that it had to be done online. And I was standing right in front of him. Don’t understand why he could not do it. I added the night before I was blindsided by the 120 daily resort fee. Although you may find a cheap price… don’t do it… spend the money on a nicer hotel. Def not worth it and I would not recommend at all. Very disappointing
- 1/5
I was charged an additional $140 for “resort fees” upon checking in for things I didn’t ask for nor needed. Very upsetting.
- 5/5
Great location and history at this hotel. It was very interesting to see the many photos of people who have visited it over the years.
- 1/5
We just checked in, and the room is completely unacceptable. The bathroom is dirty, the sheets weren’t made, and the room looks used and unclean. During our stay, there was no housekeeping, the bathroom was never cleaned, and there was no room service as no one even picked up the calls. We had booked a junior suite, but when we received the keys, it wasn’t cleaned and unavailable, so we were downgraded to a regular room instead. This level of service is extremely disappointing and unacceptable.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, we were able to walk everywhere we needed to get to! tons of shopping and food close by.
- 5/5
Breakfast was very good and the ticket for dinner with Jazz music. Nice experience!
- 3/5
The worst experience we had during our stay was there was no bedding ready for the sofa bed and wnen we asked for pillows we were told the house keeping is gone and couldn't be delivered
- 1/5
Charged us a surprise resort fee that doubled the price of the stay.
- 5/5
Unexpectedly stuck in Chicago and Ambassador took good care of me!
- 3/5
Very dated 3 star with very high fees. Great location. Would not recommend for the price
- 5/5
The hotel is old but well maintained. We had an issue with our air-conditioning which was promptly addressed
- 5/5
The elevators just werent big enough or plentiful enough for the number of guests. Multiple times we had to wait on 1 oe 2 passes of the elevator due to it being too full. Otherwise everything was pretty good.

The state of this hotel is shocking. There were maybe 40 spiders living in my window with no screen. Walls cracking, mold on shower curtain, water all over the bathroom floor from a leak, no hot water for a shower, cobwebs in the light fixtures. The property has not been taken care of and the good reviews on here simply cannot be real. Staff was nice and the hotel had live music at night.

It was a great location for us but definitely not for double the charge, lack of service and food charge.

Check-in was smooth, although there was only one person at the desk, so the process took longer perhaps than if there had been two people. The lobby is a bit of a scene with the bar/dining area open to the lobby. We arrived at night, and there was a lot going on and with loud music, although none of the loudness flowed upstairs. The welcome basket was great, the morning buffet was v good, and the exercise facility had everything I needed. The neighborhood is beautiful, and the walk to the red line for the L was quick and scenic. The hotel wasn't a "cheap" solution, but it was worth the price for sure.

Their so-called junior suite was more like a makeshift storage room turned suite. Upon arrival, I found a spider on my pillow, black mold all around the mini fridge, and water spewing all over the shower from a leak every time we turned it on. The shower towels were old and stained, and the carpets were dirty. To top it off, the alleged sofa bed ended up hurting my kids’ necks the springs just popping out everywhere. The entire suite was in total disarray. When I requested a different room, they refused. When I requested to cancel the last night, they refused until Expedia got involved. All in all, our choice of staying at this hotel ruined our Chicago trip. We stay in lots of hotels all over and this was one of our worst experiences!

Buyer Beware!! I've been staying at the Ambassador Hotel for years as a Hyatt property. Unfortunately Hyatt recently sold The Ambassador Hotel to The Chicago Hotels Collection, a group that imposes these non-disclosed additive promotional fees called a Daily Guest Amenity Package ($99.95/night) and a Reservation Recovery Fee ($20/night) on guests at check-in. This is a $119.95/night fee that is not disclosed at the Expedia site despite their advertising of an all-included price. I am surprised The Chicago Hotel Collections gets away with this questionable practice. The $99.95 Daily Guest Amenity Package provides 2 drink tickets, buffet breakfast for 2, and 2 $10 discounts off your evening dining at the hotel. This should be elective and sold as a separate upgrade, if you want to call it that, and should definitely be disclosed at the Expedia site when shopping for hotels. Even the The Chicago Collections Hotels website for the Ambassador Hotel hides this fee. The $20/night Reservation Recovery Fee pays for a list of 6 taxes from Chicago, Cook County and Illinois. Had I'd known that my hotel cost required a mandatory additional $119.95 per night, I could have looked at other hotel offerings when shopping. Also, no room cleaning until your 3rd day (not counting check-in day) of stay.

Had an adequate experience. Stayed there 3 night's. Finding parking was a chore, AC stopped working on second day there. Outside of that, the food was great, staff were helpful at times. Would stay hear again.

Nice property in a great location.

Great place to stay, would definitely recommend and stay here again

Dollar store style experience from a hotel that looks like used to be nice in the 70s and 80s. Fridge broken, elevator pitch black due to broken lights. Staff non existent much of the time. Huge line at the counter, they don’t answer their phone. Carpets significantly stained. Chair arm busted with filling spilling out. Bed looks like from IKEA. The tv did work though, surprisingly. Was overall cheaper than “real hotels” so you get what you pay for. Other guests described much worse experience (no room AC in July heat).

Enjoyed my stay. Staff were excellent. However, the pull out bed was hard, flat and not comfortable.

Needs better parking. $70 per day is a bit much. Wish this had been disclosed prior. I had to search for it online after I paid. The also added amenities that are mandatory on your bill. We didn’t want them nor did we use them…but We had to pay for them all. That was disappointing. It’s. Lot of money.

Super convenient and friendly staff!

We feel that this property did not reflect the price it was charged per nite. The photos were deceiving because it was not what was actually there. The carpeting was stained all over and the room was very uncomfortable despite the age of the hotel. We feel it was not where near the $600 a nite.

Missed my train and ended up staying a night at the Ambassador. It was a good experience.

This is my go-to for stays in Chicago. The hotel is stunning! The location on the Gold Coast is perfect for accessing every part of downtown and transportation beyond. The rooms are immaculate and so chic. Staff are helpful and accommodating. I needed to check-in early and they got me in!

Very large rooms. Expensive unexpected amenity fee. Be prepared to be charged 300-400 for breakfast parking etc. hotel

Great location for shopping and dining.

Staffs are friendly and location is pretty close to attractions with uber. Facility condition is not the best and no one cleaning and refilling shampoo conditioner during the day.
- 5/5
Really enjoyed my stay even got complimentary alcoholic beverages! Star was amazing!

We were there for 3 nights and our stay was pleasant. However, our room was not cleaned over the 3 days of our stay. No one provided us new towels or anything and even when we called reception, it took forever for them to send someone up to our room. The AC stopped working and it was super hot. An expert came and fixed but then AC broke down and started to leak. Eventually issue was sorted. Drinks and food were good. Overall decent stay.

Do not even consider booking here. I prepaid for two rooms, upon checking in only one as available. I was told that I would receive a call when the second one was available. We went out and explored the city. I never received a call, when we went to the front desk to check in later I was told there were no rooms available. There were several people in the lobby also with paid reservations and no rooms. I was told that they would bring up a cot, it never happened. Followed up, never promised again, and showed. With no follow-up or explanation. We asked for additional towels (only two in the room) never got them, housekeeping was no where to be found. Unfortunately so in out party had to sleep on the floor for two nights. I was promised a refund and as of this point it has not been received.

The rooms need a lot of work. We can issues with cleanliness and things not working.

When we checked in - the hotel gave our room away saying they were overbooked and we had no room. I had even done the early check in to the room. My family of 5 after traveling 14 hours was now stranded in Chicago with no hotel room. No rooms available in the area of town we wanted to stay in. So our only opinion was to stay 30 miles away at a much less attractive hotel. I was furious and the hotel staff basically said “sorry not sorry” we weren’t the only ones they did this too. It was awful experience and I will NEVER book with them or one of there affiliates again. There excuse was since we booked through a third party (Expedia) they didn’t have to honor the reservation which was already paid for!

We love this place! 2nd time staying

though it has been awhile. The staff is expertly considerate and helpful, including a sense of humor. We will come back.
- 5/5
Overall, we had a great experience. However, the valet service was quite expensive and the staff could have been more courteous. The self-service parking next door was also a bit confusing to navigate.

Historic property in a very fun part of town.

Property was nice and a great location. Breakfast was good/convenient
- 1/5
Save your money and book elsewhere. The pictures are deceptive. The staff is not sympathetic. The rooms are worn out. If you have a problem you’re likely on your own. I can’t believe how poorly managed this place is.
- 2/5
It is in awful conditions. Nothing like website pictures. Very deceiving. Property is unkempt. Old and dirty. Carpets are stained and smell awful. The mandatory $99 per day rate is not worth the breakfast served. Managers are rude and unprofessional.
- 3/5
The amenities fee is a nuisance. They force you to drink and eat at the hotel and the food isn’t worth the 87 dollars a person they charge you. Also for a non drinker, the bar vouchers are kind of a waste.
- 4/5
Hotel location and value were great. It’s a dated property and rooms (esp bathroom) was tiny. Ok for the money.
- 3/5
Staff was incompetent and lacked customer service skills. Either could not answer questions about the “resort” package or gave incorrect information. The “resort” package was not optional yet front desk could not explain what the package included.
- 3/5
Hotel just sold and very run down.

I love it and will be back

Great location and decent rooms. I had a strange experience in that two days in to my four day stay management ( dressed in plain, casual clothes of shorts and tshirt) came to my door and told me I wasn’t supposed to be in my room; that my room was supposed to be vacant. I would have questioned wether or nor he was managements expect except that he looked up my info and that of my colleague. I told him it was the room I was given and he didn’t believe me until I showed him my key pocket where the wrote my room number. The whole scenario was just strange and a little off putting.
- 3/5
Over experience was fine with the hotel. I just never got any room service while I was there. I had to go downstairs for towels, but other than that it was fine. My day was fine and it was quiet. I wasn’t disturbed at all. There wasn’t any noise at all either when I was staying.
