We had requested for a 2pm checking but they gave us the room at 4pm and the normal checkin time is 3pm. Also the next day they did nit clean the room and we had requested that the beds and bathroom needs to be cleaned. They cleaned the room but left. Soaking wet towel on the bed. Little disappointed with our stay.

The vibe and that I could get my pets with me. All was great.

The hotel was very clean and a great location within Chicago close to restaurants and shopping.

Such a fantastic location and gorgeous facility

Wouldn’t change a thing!
- 5/5
Such a gorgeous hotel. And it’s in the Gold Coast neighbour of Chicago so you are in the middle of all the energy and excitement of the city. Absolutely amazing.
- 5/5
Great stay, very clean and comfortable.
- 4.5/5
the rooms were spacious and very quiet. Showers were big and I love the location near so many good restaurants.
- 3.5/5
All of the staff we encountered from the front desk to the doormen to housekeeping were great! Polite, friendly and helpful! The city view from our room (2106) was fabulous and the location of the hotel in Chicago’s Gold Coast was great! Our room (2106) was a little shabby. The sofa was worn and the stitching on the seat cushions was coming apart. The chair provided as a desk chair was too low for the desk and seemed to be an occasional chair vs. a desk chair. There was a floor lamp that was not stable, the bed lamp next to the side of the bed closest to the windows was useless as a reading lamp, and the comforter cover was torn. Like I said, the room was a little shabby. It didn’t feel like an intentional collection of pieces.

Excellent location, quite clean comfortable rooms, polite and accommodating staff and great bar/restaurant downstairs. The occasional car that was decked out in the gunshot popping muffler driving by. Nothing to do with the hotel

Excellent hotel and close to restaurants and shopping. Very clean.

I had a work event at the Newberry Library and needed something close by. While expensive due to the neighborhood, it was a comfortable and pleasant place to stay given my schedule and needs.

Everything was great.....especially staff. Bed was excellent......but the room was looking a little worn and in need of some upgrades. A great minibar though made up for any shortcomings.
- 5/5
This is our favorite hotel in chicago. Great location and staff. Rooms very comfortable.
- 4/5
Great location. I was put in a handicap room. We asked to be moved to a regular room and we were told all rooms were sold. However, Expedia showed that there were numerous rooms. We asked for a top sheet and we were told that a top sheet was not available.

Clean and beautiful room. Friendly staff and close to many shops and sites.
- 5/5
I highly recommend this hotel. Our room was hypothetically prepared, which was excellent. The bed was comfy, staff were nice, and it was an overall excellent stay.
- 4.5/5
The situation and the views from the room. Not environmentally conscious: the towels (and the sheets?) are changed everyday.
- 5/5
Loved it! Great amenities! Cozy bed, nice location
- 5/5
We stay at Thompson 2-3 times a year. It’s been our spot since 2022. Beautiful spot, great location and the hospitality is top tier. We did love the old restaurant, but have grown to like the new one. A lot of new updates there but still top tier staff and amenities. Bar is upscale and on a beautiful night the glass doors are open for inside/out feel that’s let you take in the Gold Coast.
- 5/5
Amazing stay!!! Love the hospitality
- 5/5
Conveniently located, cute bars and restaurants nearby and within walking distance of a tour bus stop. The room was clean, comfortable beds and the staff was pleasant.

Everything was great. The only thing we needed was coffee in the morning…. Wish it was available in the lobby
- 5/5
Perfect area- close to everything!
- 4/5
The room itself was excellent. The front desk staff was efficient and very helpful. 5 stars for them! The lobby smelled absolutely terrible. Not sure if it was the combination of people at the bar and smells off the street but it was awful.

Our stay at the Thompson was perfect! Very friendly staff! I strongly recommend a corner room with the city view on the highest floor that you can and trust me you can’t miss

Clean rooms and friendly staff
- 5/5
It was a good hotel and perfect location.
- 1/5
My family has enjoyed this hotel for years and I recently stayed here on a staycation for one night. After checkout I realized I had left a few rings in the room, and upon asking the hotel to check for them I was met with help and then hostility. The cleaning staff stole my jewelry, one piece being an irreplaceable family heirloom, and the staff told me I was wrong and were extremely unhelpful. I would stay elsewhere if you want to keep your belongings as they employ and defend their on their staff.
- 5/5
Exceptional hotel in the best location!

Always my go to!

We loved are stay at the Thompson hotel. It's very clean, and is close to our favorite shops and restaurants.
- 5/5
My Room on the 15 th floor was perfection, though we did hear noise from the hallway. Great views and breakfast across the street at the old pancake house was great!
- 3/5
I had an issue with the HVAC at 4am it was already loud but then it woke me up with an even louder more persistent sound that wouldn’t stop. I had to call the front desk and they came up to reset it . I couldn’t sleep at all. Just over all not a good experience.

I stayed here since we had a really good experience with the Thompson in Madrid. This hotel is definitely not in the same star ranking as the one in Madrid. The rooms felt dated and dingy.

Room was ok but headboard tattered and worn and hvac and plumbing in need of repair. Heat was turned off upon my arrival so room took a while to warm up and heater is very loud. Goes on and off all night. Probably due to the odd layout of the room. On the 6th floor which isn’t a great floor as view is directly of hvac systems right outside od window. Plumbing in sink needs adjustment. Very cold water unless cold is entirely off. Service was nice. Complimentary coffee in lobby would be preferred to espresso machine but espresso was decent. I normally stay at the Viceroy but thought to try this. It was ok but hvac kept me up most of the night. Not ready to rule out Thompson brand yet but first impression wasn’t great. I did like the hardwood floors.
- 5/5
Hotel is in a prime location in Chicago! The customer service was also immaculate everyone is so sweet & accommodating - will definitely be staying at the Thompson for my next trip to Chitown!

Solid. Rooms a little worn, but overall a decent stay. Staff friendly, but room Svc overpriced w/delivery fee. How else would I get room service if it isn’t delivered? Weird

Nice room, beautiful hotel and great neighborhood to enjoy a little staycation. Staff was very nice. Definitely recommend!

Every aspect of the Thompson was excellent- the people at the front desk, staff at the door, the room and maid service, the design and decor. We’ll be back this summer.. well done, Thompson.
- 3/5
The rooms are starting to feel outdated. I’ve stayed there many times but it is definitely losing some of the quality

Love this hotel, right in the middle of a great area re: restaurants, bars, night scene, etc.

- 5/5
Friendly staff, great location, high end hotel
- 5/5
Great location, great hotel.
- 5/5
Andrew was awesome. We were able to check in early and the rooms have been a treat to stay in. We have really enjoyed the hotel and its location.
- 5/5
Two things from my last stay: There is no usable refrigerator in the room so when I asked for a large bucket of ice for champagne, a wonderful front desk person, Lily so sweetly offered to check inventory and see if an extra could be brought to the room. She kept calling until one was delivered. I so appreciated her warmth and effort on my behalf. Also, I arrived about an hour before check in and was immediately checked into a room--so appreciated after a very long travel day Just a thought for the Thompson: It would be so helpful to have a doorman to help with bags getting into the hotel and perhaps to the room. The front doors are heavy and alot to manage The room was either cold or too hot. It is a large space I. understand, but I had to heat it to 80 to get it warm enough to be in and then keep playing with it to keep it warm but not hot. The beautiful large bathroom never gets warm (maybe there are no vents in there?) so morning showers are chilly. thank you for a lovely stay
- 5/5
Room was spotless, service was top notch and the food was really fresh. I’d definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Really loved this boutique hotel with a great location and excellent restaurant-bar attached. Rooms are large and well appointed. Only complaint is that they have refrigerators fully stocked but the temperature inside is warm. When I called down they said they cannot make it colder due to restrictions. Super bummer. And, if you want ice, you have to go to front desk.
- 5/5
great staff, clean room, great location.

The staff were attentive and awesome. Rooms clean and well stocked.
- 5/5
Loved our room and the staff we so kind and attentive.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and stylish but looked a little disheveled, crooked pictures on the walls, damaged lamp shade by the bed, mirror in bathroom showing significant water damage on its frame. I would have appreciated an area rug to soften and quiet things in the room. The gym was very good. The staff at Tavern on Rush were efficient and helpful although I am sorry Nico is no longer operating.
- 4/5
Comfortable beds as well. Rooms were a bit tired (my room had broken tiles and a torn drape). The biggest issue for me was I’m a working/traveling mom and I need to pump while away. I always ask to put my ice packs in the hotel’s freezer so that I can transport my milk home without spoiling, but this hotel does not have a freezer. I was stunned. I travel for work often and have never come across a hotel without a freezer. Someone at the front desk told me the restaurant had one, but that they DEFINITELY wouldn’t let me store anything in their freezer. Out of desperation, I decided to ask them myself on my last night and explain the situation (it was only ice packs and they were in ziploc bags). I was initially told it was a liability thing and it couldn’t be done. I reiterated there was no breastmilk and they went to ask a manager who ended up allowing it, which was a huge relief. So my biggest piece of feedback for the hotel is, on behalf of all breastfeeding working/traveling moms, please get a freezer. And more microwaves. I couldn’t sterilize my pump parts because there was no microwave available so I just had to wash them and hope for the best.
- 5/5
A great stay. Fabulous location right off Rush Street surrounded by great restaurants and bars!
- 4/5
I’ve stayed here twice and had a positive experience both times.
- 5/5
Wonderful location!
- 5/5
Staff were super polite. The property is gorgeous and the area is filled with incredible retail and dining options. Felt very safe in this area
- 5/5
Amazing in every way
- 5/5
I am normally a Marriott guy, but I did something different this time on my recent trip to Chicago. I have been to some of the Thompson Hotel restaurants mainly in Austin, Texas, but I have never stayed in the Thompson. The Thompson Hotel in Chicago and the Gold Coast… I loved. From the dark and moody lobby to the great Customer Service to the beautiful room… Spacious great furnishings super amazing bed and don’t get me started on the bathroom. The walk-in shower with the rain head and amazing pressure and great body products. The only issue I had was at one point the toilet was acting a little funky and overflowed, but they came and fixed it and it was fine. This hotel used to be something different years ago, so I understand that the building is old. You would never be able to tell from the lobby and from the rooms. Little touches like push button light switches that were back lit at night to the corner couch with huge mirror grateful for getting ready and having extra space in the room. I am definitely a fan now.
- 5/5
Staff was amazing, especially the valets
- 5/5
Stunning property! Hospitality at its finest. The lobby, the staff and the suite, all exquisite. The DS & Durga toiletries was a pleasant surprise. Tavern on Rush was delicious and the service was excellent. I look forward to returning. Thank you for such an amazing experience.
- 5/5
beautiful view in great location
- 5/5
Great location to just about everything. Mag Mile, Lake, great eats.
- 3/5
Knowing that the tv and phones were not working, they checked us into the room….
- 5/5
The area around the hotel was fantastic to walk. It was also pretty close to a primary bus line that we could take to soldier field for a concert, as well as Montrose Beach the following day. This makes getting around Chicago so much nicer than driving it!
- 5/5
Really good stay at the Thompson. Fantastic location in the Gold Coast area right on the triangle with Gibsons, Tavern on Rush, Bellevue & Luxbar all on the doorstep. Room was great, really comfortable bed, superb shower and toiletries and an amazing view from floor 19. Common areas were really nice - there seemed to be a slight issue with the drains on occasion (!) but that did not affect the rooms at all, just the entrance area. Staff really helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again
- 5/5
Excellent service. Very friendly staff
- 1/5
Our stay was extremely disappointing. The room we booked looked nothing like the photos, and when we raised the issue, we were told that the room type we reserved wasn’t even available. We had to stay two nights in a lower-category room before being moved. On top of that, the AC in our room didn’t work, forcing us to sleep in 80°F heat with kids who barely got any rest. The safe in the room was also broken. When we asked for help, we were told the manager wasn’t available late at night, and the only “compensation” offered was a $50 bar credit—completely inadequate for the inconvenience we endured. Overall, a terrible experience and very poor service.
- 5/5
The location was great, the room was very nice, spacious and comfortable
- 5/5
Thompson Chicago was a great place to stay with kind staff members. The room was clean and pretty; everything was exceptionally comfortable, so I would definitely come back if I am in the area again.
- 5/5
Amazing service as always! It is our go to location on Chicago. Great staff and the best staff!
- 5/5
This hotel was the perfect blend of chic design and warm hospitality. From the moment we arrived, the stylish aesthetic and thoughtful details made it feel special. The staff provided us with macaroons as a sweet welcome touch, which set the tone for the rest of our stay. The rooms were spotless, beautifully organized, and had a calming, modern feel. The bathrooms were surprisingly spacious truly a luxury you don’t always get in city hotels. Between the clean, comfortable rooms and the impeccable service, this property is a gem for anyone looking for both charm and comfort.
- 5/5
At the Thompson . The staff , food and ambiance is top notch. We love the location as we can walk to many of our favorite places . Its elegance gives us that luxurious , relaxing feel that makes it a true magical experience 😍

Perfect location, great staff and comfortable bed

Had maintenance in our room everyday we stayed because the air conditioning wasn’t working properly. It was 79 degrees in the room. That is unacceptable! Also I paid for two lake view rooms that were adjoining or next to one another on Hotels.com website. When we arrived we found out there is only one lake view room per floor. Needless to say we didn’t want family to be on two different floors. That too is unacceptable! Hotels .com should explain that on website. And lastly the valet parking on the hotel was stated at $75.00 according to Hotels. com. However at the hotel the rate had went up to $80.00 and we had to pay that price. Very disappointed in the Thompson Hotel and the information Hotels.com gave on their website about the Thompson Hotel. I tried for three days to call Hotels.com to speak with them about the issues but NEVER got connected to an agent! Rather after a while the phone line hung up! I’ve used Hotels.com for many, many years and have never had this experience! Very disappointed and may not ever use you again! Thank you!

Horrible experience.

Our stay was good and I have nothing bad to say about the room, the hotel, or the staff. But during our stay there were some folks outside protesting the hotel. We stopped to speak with them and they said that under new ownership (our thought is Hedge Fund people) the staff are not paid well, treated badly, and not letting them unionize. That is all I needed to know that I will never be back.

There was a lot of confusion about my reservation. The front deck associates were very kind but basically said it was a problem on Expedia's end.

My stay at The Thompson Chicago was excellent. My room was spacious and had a great view of the lake. The floor to ceiling windows provided amazing natural light. Housekeeping came to clean everyday which was most appreciated. The front desk staff was very pleasant and hospitable and answered any questions I had. Will definitely stay here again!

Exellent location, friendly staff. Only one elevator was in service at the time of my stay in April 2025.

Absolutely loved this hotel! It was in a very nice area with lots of shopping and restaurants within walking distance. We had a corner room and it provided plenty of space. The bathroom was very roomy with a separate tub and shower, and the cozy robes were a nice touch. There was also a stocked mini bar with a large variety of snacks and drinks. The entire hotel was very clean with great views of the city. Although there was a restaurant attached, we did not eat there so I cannot comment on the food, however, it was always full of people so I would say it’s probably pretty good. I would definitely stay again.

Great location

Clean, AC in room very loud, constantly turning on and off. Only one elevator was in service.

Only one lift working so the queue was long & frustrating. Ice was hard to come by. Lobby bar/restaurant was way too crowded thus useless except breakfast. Room carpet not the cleanest, grout appears dirty/dark, furniture had spots. Clientele wasn't my cup of tea. Price was way high for the value received.
