Reviews
The Drake Hotel is a historic and iconic property in Chicago, known for its classic ambiance and excellent location near the lake and Michigan Avenue. Guests generally appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, but many find the rooms outdated, shabby, and overpriced, with issues such as leaking sinks, poor water pressure, and lack of modern amenities like blackout curtains and sufficient plugs. Some guests also express disappointment with the lack of room service and limited breakfast options.

Beautiful view of the lake. Knowing the history and age of the hotel you feel like you are living in the past but will return because the hotel is wonderful.

The Drake Hotel was an incredible experience. It’s an historic hotel and is still in very good condition. I enjoyed my stay there, and will stay there when I’m in Chicago the next time.

10 of 10! amazing hotel. beautiful space and location is ideal!
- 5/5
For a 100-year-old hotel, the property is kept well staying with the old time feel and staff was incredible!!
- 5/5
Everything was great
- 5/5
Classy, historic and amazing.
- 5/5
We had a lake view that was incredible. Great place to stay!
- 5/5
What I liked the most about this hotel were the bar and the restaurant on the ground level, both places have much personality and great ambience! Particularly the bar is very lively at night. The room was spacious and comfortable.
- 4/5
Great location… However, they did not tell us that either the air-conditioning or the heater would work… Not both… Although it was Thanksgiving weekend and it was cold outside the room was very stuffy. Also the bathroom seemed like an industrial toilet…. Overall very beautiful property, but definitely needs a few upgrades.
- 5/5
The Drake is a landmark hotel. Steeped in traditions of the past. With that said, it offers person an opportunity to enjoy it first hand. Give it a try.
- 1/5
Worst hotel ever. Our bathroom had hairs all over the sink and counter like someone had just shaved. Bathtub had pubic hairs in it and dripping faucet. Floors were disgusting and corners or bathroom floors were crusted with dust and gunk. Looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a year. Toilet was also definitely not clean. When I addressed the staff the said they would take care of it. Whomever came to clean just took a rag and wiped over everything. It was never truly clean. On top of that they unplugged out fridge after cleaning where we had my husbands medication that must be refrigerated. Left dirty drinking glasses behind. All that plus the staff saying they would get us another room and take care of everything and never ever did. There’s anlso black mold in the closet annd in the walls. Picture included. That’s an health risk. Totally terrible. Even when I asked a few times it was just stated they would speak with the team or the morning manager and take care of it. Never heard from them and never had a clean room. NEVER STAY AT THE DRAKE. GARBAGE AND THE STAFF IS GARBAGE. LIARS AND JUST THERE TO TAKE TOUR MONEY. We had a basic king room that cost over $500 a night. That place wasn’t worth $100 a night. Oh and the bell hop never showed up to get our baggage and it was nearly impossible to get some help when valeting when we arrived and getting our car when we were leaving. Worst experience ever.

It was very clean and lovely, everyone was kind... checked in after a TERRIBLE hotel check in that I had to leave immediately, The Drake did not disappoint!
- 5/5
Beautiful and historic hotel!
- 1/5
I called at 10 AM to get towels and by 12:30 PM. They still hadn’t brought any, therefore I had to find them myself in hallway on a cart. The next issue I had was I left my flat iron in the room, called three days later, they transferred me to lost and found and no one has called me back.
- 5/5
The room was very clean but obviously showing jts age-peeling wall paper, broken window shade, semi repairs to the bathroom wall behind the toilet. The stay was excellent t in every other way, but they really should attend to these types of upgrades.
- 5/5
Beautiful property
- 4.5/5
We appreciated 2 bathrooms in our room Location is great for a Girls shopping weekend Not a romantic destination in my opinion as far as a couples retreat We love the bar We had an issue with a room service bottle of wine I suggest the delivery of a bottle includes opening
- 3/5
Everything was average, for the price I paid I expected better amenities. It was just an average room it definitely could use some upgrades. The bathroom shower handles could use cleaning or replacing due to mold/dirt, toilet handle was make shift plate attached to the wall, tub has slow drain, no bathroom fan to assist with the steam from the shower, the other things that’s was noticed was minor so I’ll spare the details, one last thing breakfast is a comp meaning you go down to the cafe give them your room # and it’s charged to the room up to $15 per person when you register your guests name the charge will be removed at check out.

Wonderful location
- 4/5
The elegant historic feel The bathrooms need updating. Toiletries were sparse.
- 5/5
A beautiful hotel — tried but true. Centrally located on Lake Michigan. Choose a higher floor for amazing views.
- 2.5/5
The location was great The mattress wasn’t good and very old ,the mini refrigerator isn’t work and the bathtubs isn’t good! The price was too higher for the room condition ! Needs repair and worth!
- 3.5/5
Iconic hotel in a terrific location. We walked to dinner, sightseeing, shopping. Nice view of the lake. Big room. The decor in our room was tired, as were the bathroom fixtures. The shower took a while to figure out. Hallway had litter that remained for our stay.
- 5/5
Very friendly and helpful staff.
- 5/5
All good
- 5/5
Nice venue Great bar
- 5/5
Loved everything about the Drake! It was our second time visiting Chicago and would recommend staying there. So close to museums and wonderful restaurants. We will definitely be back.
- 5/5
Amazing just remember parking is extra
- 5/5
The location was great to truly enjoy the things Chicago has to offer. Easy to get around by foot. Everyone was freindly and helpful n/a There was not anything that we didnt like.
- 4/5
The building is older, but has so much character! The business center was an absolute nightmare and letdown when I needed it—thankful a front desk staff member (Maritza) saved the day! She was incredibly helpful, patient, and kind. The amenities and shops in the building were a nice little perk. Our view of the water was partially obstructed by the building itself, but still nice. Overall, I would absolutely stay here again.
- 4/5
perfect location, staff friendly, stately old hotel. property very dated though... esp. the mattress - very soft and 'old' feeling. sheets were of high quality though, so that helped!
- 5/5
A grand historic hotel at a great location. The staff are excellent.
- 5/5
Good location
- 5/5
Perfect beach view. The staff were helpful and friendly.
- 5/5
Staff was exceptional - very attentive. The lobby is absolutely lovely with the beautiful flowers!
- 5/5
My check-in time was fairly late but it was smooth and I was able to get to my room quickly and rest.
- 5/5
Nothing
- 5/5
The beach view was perfect!
- 4/5
The only thing negative I would say about this hotel, is the room was very out dated and had a very musty/mildew odor to it. Every staff member I interacted with was amazing!
- 5/5
One specific lady who was working at the little supply shop that has all the necessities was excessively rude to me and my wife. It was quite insulting with how much we paid to stay at the hotel. Also please fix the hotel widows
- 5/5
Very nice and updated
- 5/5
No but thats ok. This is a fabulous hotel
- 5/5
Wonderful trip! Upgraded our room.
- 4.5/5
We were impressed with the sheer history of the place and the location was perfect! Easy to get to from Wrigley Field which was our reason for being in the city. The Rosebud Steakhouse was our choice for dinner which had proximity and good food to offer in walking distance. We had no complaints. There was a dirty dish in the small refrigerator left I assume by a previous occupant. Why it was in the fridge we have no idea.
- 5/5
The staff were very friendly and helpful The location is fantastic
- 5/5
The Drake has become our vacation/2nd home for events in Chicago! The Staff is most welcoming!! And the location is ideal!!!
- 5/5
Couldn’t have picked a better place for the weekend, everything was amazing from check-in to checkout! Clean rooms and the staff were so friendly and accommodating!
- 5/5

We felt like royalty :D
- 5/5
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and our rooms were clean and organized
- 5/5
Beautiful view of Lake Michigan and great service.
- 5/5
It was walking distance to a lot in the city and the lake.
- 5/5
The property was easy to get into, and we used valet parking for convenience. Everything is walkable from the location, including restaurants and shopping. The bar and coffee shop were fantastic. The room was very comfortable and very clean, and we loved the historic look. We appreciate the access to the included bottles of water. We will definitely be back.
- 5/5
I loved the bar (and the friendly bartenders) and the coffee shop. They were super convenient. She was also very friendly and despite the early time. We also love the location's convenience. The available free water was great. I wish there were a walk-in shower instead of a bathtub. Otherwise, everything was great!
- 3.5/5
I liked how luxurious and elegant it felt. The location is also in a great spot. About 10 minutes from Upton and located right in downtown. The faucet in the bathroom was leaking and the carpet in front of the ice machin was completely soaked.
- 5/5
Muchas tiendas cerca, y mi habitación estaba por la vista a la cama principal
- 5/5
Everything was great. We were close to the venue we were attending and close to shops near by. Staff was very friendly and went above and beyond

- 5/5
Service was exceptional
- 3/5
It took 4 requests and 6 hours for them to bring us a couple of robes. Otherwise it was fine. Nothing special.
- 5/5
I like the style of this old fashion hotel, as well as it's well mannered staff Hardly anything the the breakfast options felt a bit limited
- 5/5
250 sq foot suite with a large bed and sofa sleeper, wifi and cable TV which was small in comparison to the space of the suite.
- 5/5
Experience
- 3/5
I’m sad that it has become a place that I will not return to.
- 4/5
Overall, a great but brief one-night stay meeting with several friends passing through Chicago, but we were inconvenienced and disappointed that the hotel’s restaurants were both closed for breakfast service on a Friday morning, so we had to seek food elsewhere before checkout and continuing on our journeys.
- 3.5/5
Location, helpful concierge for trip to ORD Complained about lack of soap in shower…never refilled
- 4/5
The lobby, dining room and location were great! The rooms were outdated.
- 4/5
Beautiful historic property! Loved it. Only complaint is the room was too hot even with air completely down.
- 5/5
The staff was extremely kind and helpful. The location is ideal. The rooms were cute and clean, but just a bit dated.

I love staying at the Drake. The property is clean, staff is great and fast.

Loved that this was so convenient to shopping on MI Ave. and the places we wanted to go. It was my first time staying at the Drake and it will not be my last! Great experience!

Lovely. Been coming here for years. Still miss the Cape Cod Room but Coq d'Or never disappoints and no better location on Michigan Avenue than The Drake.

- 5/5
Clean room over looking Michigan Ave.
- 5/5
I love this hotel and the staffs the only thing I don’t like it’s the food in the restaurant besides that everything else is great.
- 5/5
It felt like I stepped back in time and the elegance was fantastic.
- 5/5
Room was fantastic - clean, quiet, the shower had wonderful water pressure. Only issue was that the room felt somewhat stuffy no matter how long I turned the thermostat. Not enough to cause issues. The property itself is gorgeous with so much history and the staff are all extremely friendly and welcoming. Lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance in the safe neighborhood surrounding the hotel. I will absolutely stay here again if my travels bring me back to Chicago.
- 5/5
Excellent stay.
- 5/5
I love the location. The view from the 5th floor was perfect. I look forward to coming back.

The room was spacious and neatly kept. The staff was super nice and made sure that we had what we needed during our stay.

It is a beautiful hotel. The service was good and the staff was mostly friendly.
- 5/5
Really beautiful hotel. Great staff. Best lobby music and ambience of any recent hotel experience I have had. In the heart of the miracle mile.
- 5/5
Clean room, great view
- 5/5
Staying at The Drake felt like stepping back in time. I loved the vintage atmosphere and 'old time' vibes—it’s a refreshing change from the ultra-modern hotels. Everything was clean and well-maintained, and being right on the Magnificent Mile made exploring the city so easy. Highly recommend for a classic Chicago experience!"
- 5/5
Old world charm at its finest. Great location. Wonderful suites and super friendly staff. A top notch experience.
- 5/5
Beautiful building
- 5/5
Great location, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful old hotel, I like old hotels that are lovingly cared for and that respect the architecture and vibe of the past while at the same time offering all the up to date amenities and conveniences we have come to expect and rely on. Our room had a beautiful view of Oak Street Beach
- 5/5
Great staff and clean

Clean. Good price.
- 5/5
The Drake had very attentive hotel staff, the room was above my expectations and my experience was exactly what i needed after a long journey. Thank you for a pleasant stay while in Chicago. Plan to stay at the Drake Hotel in future.
- 4/5
The staff was incredible but there were lots of little details that were odd...no minifridge in room (staff brought), not enough towels (staff brought.) The history and location aren't to be beat.
- 4/5
Waited 10 min by ourselves at the registration desk. Radiators in the room hissed and spit all night.
- 5/5
Great place
- 5/5
Room was comfortable and spotless. Staff were friendly and accommodating. You can’t beat this outstanding hotel’s location for the true Chicago experience!
- 5/5

- 5/5
Beautiful historic hotel in the heart of downtown Chicago. We ate breakfast here as well and the food was really good too. Would definitely stay again.

It’s an older hotel and the deterioration is quite obvious. Carpets are dirty. Doors bathrooms fixtures. Everything is old and deteriorated.
- 5/5
Excellent service and wonderful room.
- 5/5
Always a great stay!
- 4/5
Some update on decor. Dusting common areas.
- 5/5

- 2/5
The tea room used to host bands. That is gone and the area closed early so we could not stay there for drinks. The brunch is gone. Room service is nothing special. My daughter recently attended a wedding there and food was of poor quality. The groom kept apologizing to the guests. The christmas tree in the suite is gone as well. We will not be coming back. There lots of other hotels w/n the same price range with better service and ambiance. We miss the old Drake..
- 5/5
Room was clean and staff is very friendly and helpful. Gorgeous views of the lake and largest room I’ve stayed in for awhile.
- 5/5
Perfect stay!
- 5/5

- 5/5
Fantastic property and great staff. We keep coming back!
- 5/5
The room was exactly what we needed for the two of us. The view of the lake was to die for. Everything was fantastic from the check-in to checking out. The hotel staff was very accommodating.
- 5/5
Yes. Room did not look over beach.
- 5/5
This time the room was great.
- 4/5
I recently stayed at The Drake for the first time and had a wonderful experience. I found the staff to be extremely friendly and accomodating. I took off a star however, because we ordered room service and it came in to go containers instead of on actual plates. This detracted from the room service experience overall and was dissapointing.
- 5/5
The Drake is wonderful old time hotel. Great staff and amenities. Loved our stay as usual. Never disappointed.
- 4/5
The Drake is a great traditional hotel. We had a lovely large room with an exceptional view. The bed was very comfortable. However, the furniture was worn and the room needed a bit of an update. There was not a frig I’m our room either. Would have been convenient. Overall a nice stay!
- 4/5
The room was clean and the staff courteous. The problem was with the foldout couch in the family room. ( I asked for a room with 2 queen beds) It was not fit for sleeping on. There is no way that couch should have been offered for a person to sleep on, much less be charged for it.
- 5/5
Lovely view of Lake Michigan, even from the fifth floor.
- 5/5
Everything was great!
- 5/5
Close to attractioms

The Drake is a Chicago landmark. We were very pleased with our stay. The hotel staff is awesome.
- 5/5

- 5/5
The room was great. The door unlocking mechanism did not work when we first arrived. The staff was very accommodating and fixed it.

- 2/5
The Drake is very tired and overpriced. Rooms on the lake side are very loud - probably old windows. The rooms are tired creaky and none of the amenities you expect in a $400/night+ room. Service was fine. Location is great.
- 5/5
Great large family room with fridge. Staff was excellent! Loved the location and the beautiful lobby, cool cocktail bar.

It was great!

The room was 9/10 clean. The staff I encountered were exceptional. Would definitely stay here again on a staycation.
- 5/5
Great experience
- 5/5
Classic and iconic hotel. Beautifully appointed. Comfortable beds in spacious room. Amazing customer service AAA+++
- 3/5
A real mixed bag. Comfortable bed, amazing character, terrible room service food. Save yourself the regret and go down to the coffee shop or the restaurant instead of having it brought up we wasted a few hundred dollars on food that got thrown away.
- 1/5
From the minute I checked in and got to my room, the entire experience was horrible. The room was dirty, sheets were soiled, one bath towel was given to me. The front desk people were like robots. I talked with the hotel manager when I checked out and he gave me a small discount. The entire stay should have been credited. The Drake was awful and a huge waste of money. Travelers beware!
- 4/5
Enjoyed the atmosphere and the Lavazza was very convenient.
- 4/5
Loved the historic character. Coq d'Or was a delightful surprise. Did not realize my room would have no frig. But my biggest negative was the pillows. They were awful, thin, lumpy and I had one good night's sleep out of 4.
- 5/5
I love this historic and beautiful hotel! The location is unbeatable and the building is stunning and iconic Chicago!
- 5/5
Excellent location, very friendly staff, great Chicago history at The Drake
- 4/5
We had a great beach front view but there is no direct access though.
- 1/5
My husband and I brought our kids to the Drake Hotel for a nostalgic trip—we had stayed here 20 years ago and wanted to share the experience with them. We booked a family suite (1 king bed and a sofa bed) for four nights at over $650 per night, expecting the same charm and quality we remembered. Unfortunately, the room fell short of expectations. The bathroom had broken wall coverings, and the sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable—you could feel the springs through the thin cushions, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. To add to the frustration, our room was missing basic essentials on the first night: no bedding for the sofa bed, not enough towels, and no bar soap. That said, the staff were truly wonderful. The greeter at the front and the housekeeping staff were warm, professional, and did their best to assist us. Their kindness helped offset some of the disappointment. For the price and reputation, we expected much more in terms of room quality and basic amenities. The Drake still has its charm, but sadly, this visit didn’t reflect the excellence we once remembered.
- 2/5
Room was old and smelly. Not a clear view on the beach. Staff pressures you to book another stay at checkout, not the best experience.
- 5/5
Great location and wonderful staff. Stayed with my family of four and we were able to easily get to all the wonderful sites we wanted to visit. The historic charm and lastige spaces enhanced our stay and our breakfast was superb.
- 5/5
Could use an update but otherwise it was great! Historical, great location and quiet. Great staff!
- 4/5
Very nice but the room was old. Needs a renovation.

On the ground floor, in a show case, there are black & white photos a famous stars of the 1950’s who stayed at the Drake last century. The picture of Grace Kelly is badly torn. That says it all. Great staff. Friendly service. Poorly run hotel. I was there for the Chicago Marathon. Not a single mention of the marathon anywhere in the public areas. No “welcome runners”. Nothing, and I mean nothing, was done to accommodate runners having to get up at 4 or 5 am race day to get food and coffee. No room service, no cafe service. There’s a crappy little plastic coffee maker in the room that uses coffee bags to make the most insipid coffee. I had to go to Starbucks the night before to buy espresso shots that I could add to the dishwater-like coffee in the morning to get a decent tasting cup. I’ve stayed in city hotels for marathons around the world, and they have all bent over backwards to welcome the runners, to celebrate the city’s big event, and to accommodate the runners’ eating and beverage needs the morning of the race. Shame on the property’s management team. They all need to be sent to hospitality school for remedial training. And get rid of the poor quality photos of the dearly departed stars of the last century, especially the one that’s torn.

We had a stunning beach shoreline view and generous room size
- 5/5
Older hotel but big rooms. Lots of history. Housekeeping is everyday. Wonderful breakfast! Great parking attendants.
- 5/5
Great location. A little outdated but is part of the charm.
- 5/5
The hotel is a classic looking building but the beds TV and furniture were all great. Comfortable place to stay. Lounge and bar offered good food. Service dog friendly too!
- 5/5
Iconic hotel. Great location. Staff were awesome.
- 5/5
Great historic hotel
- 4/5
Beautifully clean city though, and not as noisy as i thought it would be. The flowers around the city were lovely, not what i expected to see at all. Plenty of places to eat and drink, and a great choice of cuisines. I wish we could have stayed longer.
- 5/5
Great location and staff. Loved our stay!
- 5/5
Room was very clean as were all areas of the hotel we were in. Staff was very friendly. The hotel really is beautiful and is a throwback. Certainly not modern compared to some others in the area but still elegant.
- 5/5
It’s near the beach, shopping, restaurants, and iconic landmarks. It’s a beautiful historic building with great staff and service.
- 5/5
Our room over looked Lake Michigan. It was gorgeous. The staff was pleasant and responsive to questions. You could tell it was an older building because even on the 7th floor you could hear the street, but that really did not bother us. We would stay again.
- 5/5
Wonderful service! Room was made up quickly, front desk helped me book an in-room massage, restaurants served good food at a fair price.
- 5/5
Staff was extremely friendly. Enjoyed all the recommendations for dining etc.
- 2/5
Hotel room smelled like 100’s of people had smoked in it and there was no heat. The lake view was stunning but that meant we were on one of the busiest streets in Chicago, at a street light, so it sounded like being on the Daytona 500 track.
- 5/5
Our favorite place to stay in Chicago! Our lake view king room was huge! The location in our favorite neighborhood is fantastic - close to a beach and transportation. The staff is friendly and helpful. Coq D’or has been our favorite bar in the area for years - wonderful atmosphere and the best bartenders!
- 4/5
Partial view ok.

- 5/5
My stay at The Drake was fantastic! The hotel was so regal looking & clean.
- 4/5
Friendly staff, good accommodations
- 4/5
Mid September stay. Room on floor 9 with wonderful north LSD and Oak Street Beach view. Okay room. Seemed always chilly regardless of thermostat setting. Bath tub a bit rusty and well worn. Services were great. A drink at the bar is highly recommended.
- 5/5
A beautiful hotel. Excellent service. Friendly staff. Outstanding restaurant. Would highly recommend. Valet parking also excellent, as was assistance with luggage.
- 5/5
One of the best hotels in Chicago! Classic.
- 5/5
Was a very good experience. Enjoyed our stay. Bachelorette party next door was a bit loud but other than that it was nice, clean everyone was friendly.
- 5/5
Great stay at the Drake Real Chicago! Excellent experience and looking forward to a return trip next summer- definitely staying at the Drake - Real Chicago
- 5/5
Excellent hotel
- 2/5
Room was dated, wallpaper needed updating, has an odd musk / scent
- 5/5
Iconic property with a ton of history and great upscale dining and attractions nearby. Staff were friendly and helpful. No pool. Skip the lavazza cafe, overpriced mediocre breakfast items, better options in walking distance.
- 5/5
Beautiful classic hotel.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel with beach views and clean rooms
- 5/5
Favorite place to stay in Chicago. Especially love the Coq d or.
- 5/5
Beach view, breakfast
- 5/5
The facility is very nice, dated, but still displays a touch of elegance. It is located in a very safe area. I would certainly return here.
- 3/5
Covenient location, friendly staff, interior a bit old.
- 5/5
We have stayed at The Drake several times and once again the service was great from the front desk to the bell hop and housekeepers! Great location and beautiful grand hotel.
- 5/5
Very clean! Excellent service from check-in to check-out. We’ll definitely be back
- 5/5

Great location for walking to different amenities. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
- 5/5
Always a fantastic stay.
- 5/5
Great hotel!
- 5/5
We love the Drake!
- 3/5
Nice lobby, but rooms a bit dated and musty. Some furniture needs to be replaced.
- 5/5
Looking forward to doing it again! Great few days
- 4/5
Location and staff
- 3/5
Thought saw advertising of bus service from hotel to Wrigley. There is none. Also was no hot water at hotel Nice hotel otherwise staff nice
- 4/5
Room door was really hard to open,,,,, had to put a lot of force to open the door!
- 4/5
Furnishing are dated and worn. Bathroom was small.
- 5/5
While The Drake is no longer at its peak, I would absolutely stay here again. The hotel is a bit dated, but charming in a historic way. Rooms are very comfortable, clean, and the service is very good. Hotel staff were great, and accommodated my requests. Location is great, walkable to all sorts of stores and restaurants. About as close to the lake as you can get. Only drawbacks are that The Drake no-longer houses prestige tenants (Chanel and Georg Jensen both moved out) so the street level feels a bit bare.
- 5/5
Amazing experience. Great property!!
- 5/5
It was a nice place, parking was a little hectic but it's Chicago. The valet was worth it. I am still waiting for my deposit to be refunded. But other than that it was nice and a beautiful view of the Sears tower at night
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Staff have been great🙂 Kind people!
- 4/5
Hotel staff is great, the hotel needs a refresh but good value for location. My only complaint was
- 5/5
Classic Hotel
- 2/5
While the Drake is a beautiful old hotel, it is in dire need of updating. The doors stick, the ice machines are always empty, you have to request a refrigerator. My room reeked of cigarettes and had to be aerated. The plumbing is a patched job and the water tap wouldn’t shut off. While we reported to the staff, they didn’t seem to care. So sad, as it’s a great location to the beach and shopping.
- 4/5
I liked the location close to the lake and convenient to downtown. The room was clean and the staff was very friendly. We could have used a refrigerator for drinks.
- 5/5
Classic, fabulous, reliable, killer location
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel in a great location that makes it easy to walk everywhere. Beds are EXTREMELY comfy, we slept great and would wake up feeling well rested after a 10-12 hour day out on the town. Soundproof rooms, we never heard our neighbors once during our stay!
- 5/5
First class
- 3/5
It was a good stay for lollapalooza but was just a bit disappointed with service— we gave our bags to be brought to the room and it took over 30 minutes to arrive after my friend called the front desk to remind them as well as housekeeping being slightly disorganized in asking if we wanted service specifically on our last day we were woken up by house keeping at 8:30 and then received another knock from housekeeping after 10am which is odd considering we check out at 12pm so that was just a bit inconvenient— i completely understand the hotel must have been at high occupancy with the festival and cubs games— just wish the experience was a bit better
- 5/5
The Drake is a very beautiful hotel. It is convenient to many things especially the Gold Coast. It was a quick walk to and from. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and comfortable.
- 4/5
Pretty good. Lived the convenience of being downtown and able to walk where ever. No fridge or microwave - $100 worth of food had to be trashed. Bathroom door kept getting stuck. Downstairs restaurant food is amazing.
- 2/5
The hotel was misleading
- 5/5
That said, the suites and some common areas could use a little refresh and would go a long way toward enhancing the overall experience without sacrificing the hotel’s historic appeal. Still, the attentive staff, prime location, and undeniable sense of place make The Drake a memorable stay. If you appreciate classic architecture and the stories of the past, you’ll likely find the charm outweighs the minor imperfections.
- 4/5
We liked the staff and their willingness to help, and appreciated the view of Lake Michigan and the cleanliness of the property, especially our room. We did not care for the fact that our key cards stopped working after one use nor did we like that there was no luggage pickup before 7 am. Also, the only phone in the room was on the far side of the bed, next to the wall. We would have liked a less dark and noisy choice of a place to have dinner on the premises than the Coq d'Or. But the waiter was nice.
- 2/5
This building has such possibilities but it is dark and depressing. There is no elegance or atmosphere at all. The high tea area was closed off and there is no lounge with elegant bar. No class, old and jaded - what a pity
- 3/5
No breakfast
- 2/5
The Drake is a classic old hotel, we were there for a wedding- the wedding venue areas were amazing. The rooms where guests stay, disappointing. I know it's an old hotel but too many issues for the price and for a comfortable stay. Our AC did not work properly, even after a call to maintenance. We were given an oscillating fan, still not a great solution. The bathroom had 1 towel and washcloth per guest, had to call for more towels. Other family members also had issues with AC, water leaks, electricity in bathroom going out, and more. It's too bad, I'll attend a wedding at the Drake in the future, I will not stay as a hotel guest.
- 5/5
Very comfortable beds! Lovely location
- 5/5
My family and I absolutely loved it, will definitely stay again!
- 5/5
Taxis and Ubers are easy to get. My only regret is that I didn’t have enough time to enjoy afternoon tea! The next trip to Chicago I will be staying at the Drake!
- 4/5
Beautiful hotel that gives a vibe that you are walking in the history.
- 4/5
Excellent stay except the water pressure in both the sink and the shower
- 4/5
Great ambience; history & location; Lakeview room too low & needs bathroom upgrades but overall really good-have stayed many times & will again
- 4/5
Historic sophistication
- 3/5
I would stay at The Drake again simply for the memories from my wedding night (29 years) and the nostalgia it evokes for more glamorous eras. For this, I tolerate the faded wallpaper, cheap furniture and lighting, and outdated bathroom with a flooding shower tub. On the positive side, housekeeping is great, breakfast is good, the hall carpeting was colorful and new. Best of all, you can't beat The Drake's lakefront location!
- 5/5
The Drake has lost some of its bling from the old days, but it's still a fabulous stay. We really enjoyed the view over Oak St. Beach, and the proximity to the Lake and Michigan Ave. can't be beat.
- 5/5
The Drake is a wonderful historic hotel in a perfect Chicago location. In addition to its large rooms with lake views they also have 2 on site restaurants. We enjoyed drinks or dinner at the Coq d’Or 3 of the 4 nights of our stay. Our visit was business related and the front desk could not have been more accommodating with their help scanning and sending documents. There is no doubt we will return to the Drake on our next visit.
- 4/5
The room had a bathroom door that wouldn’t close, handle on closet door was broken and couldn’t regulate room temp.
- 5/5
👍
- 4/5
The room was quite dated and it was not super clean… I could tell the bathroom hadn’t been deep cleaned in awhile. No fridge in room (could request one to be brought but seemed like a given for the price point). For the price, I don’t think we would stay there again but I would absolutely stay in the location for another Chicago getaway.
- 5/5
Great location. Friendly staff. Spacious rooms.
- 5/5
The bar excellent!
- 5/5
Awesome place to stay
- 5/5
Nice stay
- 5/5
Been ton the Drake numerous time and have never been disappointed. Our last stay was fantastic and the serving of the staff was phenomenal. We loved our stay with my wife and two small children.
- 5/5
Will stay again. Will request higher floor and call early when checking oit
- 5/5
I stay here twice a year for business and I am satisfied every time
- 5/5
Classic historic hotel. Everything we thought it would be.
- 5/5
We love the Drake. From facilities to staff it’s all wonderful.
- 2/5
The hotel was extremely warm - my room in particular was reading 77-80 degrees. I asked the front desk for assistance 3x, they said they would send maintenance; when they did they just turned the ac on 71 but the room was 79. The following day was told they’d provide a fan, no fan. Bathroom and bed side light flickered terribly - no fridge in the room. At checkout I was rushed, barely acknowledged and was not asked how my stay was. I wont be bad.
- 1/5
Really run down. Do not reccomend.
- 1/5
Very old and not kept up. Not the property it used to be. Banquet staff was nice and kind and helpful from the staff was standoffish and could care less. AC did not work in our rooms for two days.
- 5/5
Checking in and out was fast and easy. The free bottles of water were welcome on some very hot days! Room was clean and very comfortable. The evening Bartender at Coq D'or (I think Danny) was very helpful, and menu suggestions were spot on!!
- 4/5
Picked for location and price, taxes and parking was expensive. Good historic hotel, would stay again.
- 1/5
There was a dirty pair of underwear left in our room from the previous guests. I called to have them come and get it and when we left the room, they were supposed to clean it. We came back from the concert and they changed the linens and the dirty pair of underwear were still left in the chair and we had to call guest Services again..
- 1/5
I paid for my room in advance. When I arrived late at night, they did not have a room and offered no assistance in finding one.
- 4/5
Ideal location to walk the lake and downtown. Convenient amenities - coffee shop, bar, restaurant, etc. Nice size room. Comfortable bed & linens.
- 4/5
Beautiful decor and atmosphere. Very near Lake Michigan and fabulous shops and restaurants. Staff was very accommodating. Truly wish there would have been a small refrigerator in room. We weren’t able to find ice machine.
- 2/5
Room type originally booked, king room, was not available. Instead was given a queen room. Rate of room did not change. A food credit was given. But I requested credit on my stay instead. This was not granted.
- 4/5
I love the Drake! It's a beautiful facility and they have great service. Legacy location.
- 4/5
Combative staff but generally a good experience.
