We spent the weekend here for my sisters birthday and it was wonderful very comfortable and the spa bath was definitely the best part highly recommend will book again in the future
- 5/5
Staff, especially the main doormen were great.
- 4/5
The hotel was great. Space is well clean and rooms are spacious.
- 4/5
My room was excellent! It had a hot tub in the bathroom that I did not use, but could have. Elevator service was a bit slow-only 2. I had to go to the front desk to buy ginger ales as there were no in-room beverages except water with coffee maker.. The rooftop pool & sundeck were excellent. The staff was very nice. Typical of many hotels, the front desk staff did not have money available to make change when needed. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was perfect. I've now stayed at the Chicago River North & NYC (The Benjamin) Royal Sonestas and liked them both. Much better than a Hilton, Marriott, Doubletree, etc. etc etc. For the price, compared to other hotels in the area (Langham, Ritz-Carlton, Peninsula, Four Seasons and trump(dump) it was a good value and I do look forward to staying at other Royal Sonestas. I did not try the restaurant.
- 4/5
We booked a larger room with a king bed, and it was amazing. The room was large, with a couch, and the bathroom was spacious, with a city-facing view. We stayed for four nights and chose not to use daily maid service, so we cannot comment on that. Others in our party with their own rooms did, and they said the staff did an excellent job. It is very loud. Lots of sounds, sirens, and homeless people on the streets add to the noise - we were on the 7th floor. However, it's a city. I'm just commenting on those who might be affected. We are from a big city, so this didn't bother us that much - it was like being back home.

Good experience
- 3/5
Staff was friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable. Restaurant was good as was happy hour and staff. Thought rooms were overpriced. Need microwaves.
- 5/5
Junior suite very comfy and had beautiful sights of Chicago. None
- 5/5
The room was clean and well furnished. The staff was always helpful and pleasant. Location was fantastic. Only thing is I wish the windows were more soundproof. I could still hear sirens throughout the night.
- 4/5
Location was ok close to restaurants if you walk 3 blocks away from hotel and close to the Magnificent mile The area was next to an office plaza and at nighttime - many homeless hanging around and sleeping at 7-11 across from the hotel, . I did not feel safe to be outside after 1100 PM. My original booking was for arrival 6/3 - my flight from Japan was cancelled due to Typhoon and my flight was changed to arrival in Chicago 6/5. I spoke to the hotel front desk on 6/4 and notified them of the situation. The nice young lady advised me since I already prepaid for 4 nights the room will still be available when I arrived on 6/5 - she send me an email advising of the situation. When I arrived at the hotel around 8pm 6/5-the front desk advised me I have no reservation and hotel does not hold room for 2 days. Unfortunately I had to argued with the front desk and they go have to check with a supervisor and I showed them the correspondence I got from the hotel, After 20 minutes later he goes we can assigned a room for you. This was totally unprofessional and unnecessary headache it cost me and my family, Better notes should had been taken in the hotel system
- 5/5
The staff were amazing! I requested a grad set up for my room and they delivered. The experience was amazing! Room was clean, bathroom was on point as well . Overall I had a good time. Will come to this hotel again when I visit CHI town ❤️

Smart comfortable room and decent location. The facilities are so basic. The pool is very average - shallow and small. The terrace looks like a nice rooftop bar on the ad but it’s not. A small bar-less terrace you will never set foot on.

I did have to call the desk to get a robe but they brought it up very quickly. Anything I asked for resulted in a quick response from staff. They were helpful throughout my stay and very friendly but still professional. I tried the hotels restaurant for Breakfast one morning. It was OK. I would recommend any of the other breakfast places in the area. Yolk is very good 😊

The room was comfortable, and location was convenient for us - walking distance to the subway, architecture boat tour, etc. It did not include breakfast however we went to a nearby place called Goddess and the Baker.
- 5/5
So well positioned for everything Nothing

Staff was friendly and we felt like valued guests every time we entered and exited the property. Doormen were especially kind and helpful. Rooftop terrace was absolutely lovely. River North location is a bit noisy, but to be expected with close access to restaurants and bars. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend.
- 5/5
Love you and the staffllllllllllllllllllll
- 5/5
Wonderful and convenient hotel. The staff was great. We could not have asked for better.
- 3.5/5
Views, pool, gym and check in/out.
- 4/5
Good location and clean, big rooms.
- 5/5
The property and staff was great, we really enjoyed our stay the location was perfect it was close to everything. Good restaurants shopping, and the Riverwalk. I would highly recommend staying here.
- 4/5
The hotel was very nice. The room and room service were very good with a nice normal shower that did not spray water everywhere! We had breakfast one day at the hotel restaurant and it was delicious! Coffee in the lobby every morning was perfect and ice waters the rest of the day. The issue was the hotel restaurant closed after lunch and was closed for the night on both Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day Weekend when the hotel was packed with guests. There was no bar on the property open at night! Also, the rooftop terrace was full of people (staff) smoking even thoug the sign in the door to the terrace specifically said no smoking. There could really use a lobby bar there that also has some all-day snacks.
- 5/5
Excellent place to stay. Very clean, nice, and very close to everything.
- 5/5
This is an awesome hotel. I've walked passed this hotel a 100 times. This is an amazing hotel. I love everything about this hotel.
- 5/5
Taken care of. They are so Attentive including CBR, T took great care of my order and a minor miscommunication. I’ve never experienced better customer service. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip in Chicago and this location has great proximity to everything. We never had to use our car over our trip!
- 4/5
The hotel had a good location and the staff were polite, but I was concerned about the cleanliness of the room. I noticed spots on the bedsheets that appeared to look like blood stains, which was very uncomfortable and disappointing. Cleanliness, especially bedding, should be checked more carefully before guests check in. I hope management improves housekeeping standards moving forward.
- 5/5
Check in and out was smooth and fast. Person at the desk was very welcoming and friendly. Very nice hotel and rooms. Good location.
- 5/5
No minibar.
- 5/5
Every employee we encountered and were helped by were extremely helpful and wonderful!!

The rooms were spacey and very clean. The staff was very friendly. We didnt eat at the restaurant. The hotel is in a great location to everything.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly, the rooms were large and clean! Great location next to train stop! I would definitely stay here again!
- 4/5
Overall a good stay, i will say i dont be
- 4/5
Our room was very nice however attention to detail is not there! The headboard was peeling away & could have easily been replaced or repaired! Other than that, very nice hotel!
- 4/5
Love the decor & vibe of the hotel! Close to a lot of the things we were doing in Chicago and easy walk to the Mag Mile and lots of restaurants.
- 5/5
Lovely stay with nice, efficient, and professional staff
- 5/5
The Royal Sonesta is by far our favorite place to stay in Chicago.. we have tried other places and nothing Compares. Every time is a great experience! The Hotel smells amazing, very clean and comfortable.. the staff is outstanding and they give the best customer service I have ever experienced at a hotel. Nate at the CBR bar makes the best espresso martinis.. Speedo and Antoine the main Valet and concierge are wonderful. Great location to the river walk, magnificent mile and trains.. Highly recommend
- 3/5
I was disappointed the pool is smaller than you’d think and it’s a bit muggy since it’s indoors. Our “king” bed was actually a queen so we didn’t have as much space as we’d like. The room was smaller as well. However, the cleanliness was nice, and all together this was a decent hotel for the distance we needed, but you’re definitely paying a higher price for convenient location, not the amenities. Great staff, clean and decent rooms.
- 5/5
Great location and the staff were very friendly and helpful! Definitely will stay here again in the future.
- 5/5
Great hotel in the perfect location. The staff was super friendly. We would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel. Lovely staff. Good restaurant. Good vibes.
- 4/5
Noisy downtown even on the 12th floor
- 5/5
Very nice hotel, super friendly staff only thing I didn’t do my research on was that there was no self parking at the hotel but that’s on me. Everything at the hotel was great
- 5/5
Clean room, great staff, response time pretty fast.
- 5/5
Large suite, lots of room for a family of 4
- 5/5
Great hotel
- 5/5
Front Desk staff is wonderful they were very helpful and it was a wonderful stay.
- 5/5
It would be nice if they had complimentary decaf coffee in the lobby. Other than that, it’s a pretty good hotel!
- 5/5
The staff at this location is especially wonderful! 💜
- 5/5
Location , staff, bar ect all very good
- 5/5
Staff was amazing. Thank you for a great visit
- 5/5
Staff was great
- 5/5
This is a beautiful hotel with easy access to many amenities and sites. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Highly recommend and will be coming back in the future.
- 5/5
The rooms were very clean.
- 4/5
The TV in our room was barely functional. Often shut off or reset itself. Sometimes the guide was inaccessible and when it did work, some of the functions were broken or worked incredibly slowly.
- 5/5
The Royal Sonesta was a complete delight! They had staff available to help at all times, and they were always cheerful and friendly. I’ll definitely be back!
- 5/5
I look forward in staying there again!
- 4/5
We did arrive early and were charged $25 for an early check-in which I’ve never paid in my life so I did not like that. I would’ve preferred a coffee maker in the room.
- 3/5
The staff was great but you can see the cracks in this property. The bathroom tub wasn't as clean as wanted. There is visible damage on furniture and amenities. Amenities were mediocre. It wasn't terrible but I wish that I would have spent the extra 200 dollars or so to stay at a true luxury property.
- 5/5
great hotel
- 5/5
Stay was 10/10
- 5/5
Clean hotel. Rooms were a good size. Location was very convenient.
- 4/5
Our room 810 had no view as we were facing the adjacent office building next door so you must request city views because ours was disappointing. Staff were great.
- 5/5
All of the employees at the front desk were fantastic, excellent customer service skills, courteous, polite, helpful, and always willing to answer any questions we had. This is by far the best we have ever been treated out of all the hotels we have stayed at over the years. In addition, there were other valet staff and housekeeping staff that made sure we were well taken care of. Our thanks to everyone for making our stay memorable.
- 4/5
We had an issue with air conditioning when we were there and the staff was terrific through that. We ultimately ended up having to move to another room but the team did everything they could to make it smooth and easy. Also, the location of this property is perfect, especially if you like to walk around the city. We would definitely stay again, just for the staff and the location.
- 4/5
Everything was great except the bellman. As we were asking for recommendations he said it was walkable except for grandma(me) Yes I am 76 but I am not disabled and still very active. I can walk 4 or more miles.
- 5/5
Great clean property and room. Staff super helpful. Wish the rooftop terrace was open but late March is probably still out of season for it.
- 5/5
My only critique is that the TV’s in the room could use an update. It’s probably time to put smart TV’s in the rooms. Our TV did not work which we did report at check out and staff was very apologetic.
- 5/5
Clean room, great staff, amazing location.
- 5/5
Didn't have breakfasts so cant comment but the staff were great - friendly, helpful and the room was perfect
- 4/5
Room was very cold. Thermostat did not seem to be working.
- 1/5
Clean the property, fix heating system and re do the hotel. It is tired.
- 3/5
I was told I had late check out at 2pm and at 12:30pm my key card stopped working i was locked out my room and I had to pay a additional $25
- 5/5
Great staff who went above and beyond
- 5/5
Great location, hospitality and spacious rooms
- 5/5
Staff was super nice and accommodating. The hotel is in the perfect location to walk to all the attractions, restaurants and bars. Hotel bar/restaurant had excellent food, great service and a relaxing atmosphere.
- 4/5
Room was clean. My big concern is the lighting, it makes the room feel dark even tho there is a huge glass floor to ceiling window. But it was so hard to do my makeup. Bathroom lighting was horrible yellow dark tone
- 3/5
Good location. Clean. Loud everywhere. Staff weren’t overly friendly. Kind of a let down after reading other reviews.
- 5/5
Great location and very friendly staff.
- 5/5
It was a great experience. The room was neat and room service was excellent. Would stay here again in the future. The view from the pool room is also beautiful.
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and attentive. Great location
- 5/5
Our stay was great. The staff went out of their way to make you feel great. The room was very clean and the rooftop pool was a little cold and very clean. Thank you to Spiro for making out trip extra special! **We love the kid's bag given out at check-in. What a fantastic touch!
- 5/5
Loved our stay! We got upgraded to the Spa suite which was lovely with a huge glass wall. My daughter loved the pool and the nutella waffles for breakfast downstairs. All of the staff was so friendly. Very central location, definitely would stay again.
- 5/5
They extended our stay with zero issues. Would come back
- 5/5
Location great!
- 5/5
The Sonesta was amazing, came to celebrate our grandmother 90s birthday and all of the staff were greatly friendly and accommodating. Must give mention to Spiro at the bell hop and the valet crew. They were quick, friendly, and very informative. They were helpful when we came in early and got us into our room early. Only two small issues, do not stay here if sirens is an issue, due to firehouse being not too far. And in the pool one of the lifts was not charged so could not be used when our grandmother wanted to get in pool. They did have that fixed before we left so small issue. We will stay again when we are in Chicago again.
- 4/5
I didn’t go to cbr
- 5/5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The suite was large, well appointed and clean. Food from CBR was great, and the overall service of the entire team was outstanding. The deep jetted tub was a wonderful touch to just unwind and reset!
- 5/5
The staff was amazing and so friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Room was clean. Coffee in the lobby in the morning was delicious. All of the staff was so friendly and helpful. Happy hour in the restaurant was delicious. No complaints.
- 5/5
Clean
- 5/5
I recommend this hotel is very clean nice view love it
- 5/5
Clean room, awesome floor to ceiling windows, has everything you need. Great, friendly staff that are always available at the front desk. Great location with easy access to the 'L'.
- 4/5
Big clean room. Good location. But close to fire station and lots of sirens 24/7.
- 5/5
We absolutely loved our stay here. Very quiet, great customer service, very clean and updated. Bar downstairs was great and loved using the credit they provided for happy hour. Our only complaint was very busy for a tournament (couldnt use the pool) but no fault of the hotel. Still very quiet, room darkening curtains, great water pressure and incredible location!
- 5/5
Overall really clean I just wish they had room service, and the TVs had access to Netflix atleast.
- 5/5
Nice stay
- 5/5
Overall a wonderful hotel in close proximity to a lot of amenities and activities... The room was immaculate well appointed and spacious. Staff were friendly, and the food from CBR was great.
- 5/5
Staff was amazing, great location!
- 5/5
10/10 everything was what i expected jr suite with jacuzzi was AMAZING. Totally a great experience!
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly. We were needy in our room and needed more coffee and more blankets and they brought them up so quickly and were so polite. The staff always said hi and goodbye when we walked through the lobby. They always greeted us with a smile.
- 5/5
Great breakfast!
- 5/5
Very nice.
- 5/5
Great location and great staff
- 1/5
I called the day before the stay to check if the pool was open and they told me yes, then it was closed when we got there. The rooftop deck was also closed even though it was 76° out. They were out of coffee when i went down at 9:30am (they refilled it later). I left a small pillow (that my mom made) there and they want $67 to ship it to me.
- 5/5
Everything was great! Except I must say the area was not as safe as it use to be!
- 2/5
The door to the room had a bad regulator so the door only opened 25% of the way without serious force and even then it didnt really open but half way. This is something housekeeping should've caught and has maintenance fix before any guest stayed. I consider this a serious safety hazard especially if there was a fire! I booked this hotel so becaue it was downtown near places of interest but also it had a pool. The pool went down and was drained our second night there. Our last night there the was was so cold we couldnt swim so my daughter was in tears.
- 5/5
Nice place, very friendly staff. Parking was a challenge (when we arrived, there wasn't anywhere to even pull in) and too expensive. Also, our Waze map didn't bring us to the front entrance, so arriving in general was stressful. Once there, it was a nice stay.
- 5/5
Breakfast was delish! Staff was nice..great location.
- 5/5
From the valets to bellman to front desk staff they were all great and helpful.
- 4/5
Biggest Negative - they need more coffee and refreshers in lobby. Just a simple all-day water and enough coffee pots to get us til midnight (its a refillable 30-45 cup coffee pot!)! There's no continental food so plan for the bagel guys, 7-11, or donut shops nearby. One other negative that they cannot help - the fire station is a block over... so earplugs would be nice to offer.
- 5/5
Great location, comfortable room and excellent staff
- 2/5
I added breakfast to my reservation and wen i got there they told le i didn’t then they told mei had a $50 credit to use for breakfast and i didn’t get that either they charged me for the entire breakfast meal
- 5/5
It was a great stay the staff was amazing!
- 5/5
Clean room
- 5/5
Everything was Amazing !!! Best Sonesta I’ve stayed at !
- 4/5
The front desk team during the day was absolutely amazing—super attentive, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. They really set a great tone. The room itself was another highlight: very spacious, clean, and comfortable, making it easy to relax. The pool area was also great and a nice bonus to the experience. The location is convenient and adds to the overall appeal. That said, there were a few downsides. The restaurant is on the smaller side, with limited alcohol options available before 4pm, and service there tends to be a bit slow. At one point, a server even followed us to the elevator to direct us back to the front desk regarding an issue with my card, which felt a bit awkward. The most uncomfortable experience came late at night when our room keys stopped working. The overnight staff we interacted with came across as condescending, and the interaction felt more like a “gotcha” moment than an attempt to help resolve the issue. In summary, the hotel offers a great location, comfortable and spacious rooms, and an excellent daytime front desk team. However, some service inconsistencies—particularly with the overnight staff and restaurant—left a mixed impression.
- 5/5
Spacious and clean room with excellent mattress and pillows. Shower had good pressure and easy to use; hand soap was very nice. Staff was A++ fantastic; very approachable, friendly, and helpful. In my opinion, breakfast was too expensive (even with 'discount') - but also very, very good with good strong coffee, we have no regrets. Greek omelette was superb.
- 4/5
Hotel was clean. Staff was friendly. Breakfast from hotel wasn’t bad but pricey. We had an issue with the AC in our room and had to move rooms mid stay. Staff took care of the issue but didn’t do anything to compensate for the inconvenience. I wish they had coffee makers or better coffee options within the hotel.
- 5/5
The front desk staff at the hotel is top notch!
- 3/5
The pool area was great, the view from the pool was pretty cool. We had breakfast at the restaurant and we enjoyed the breakfast. The bellman were so kind and helped us pick some pretty great places to eat in the area. The trip itself was great so it made up for the minor mishaps at the hotel.
- 5/5
Hotel surrounded by many restaurants and convenient stores. Friendly staff and clean hotel! City view was great. I would stay again
- 5/5
Staff super friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
This was the ideal room for a family! The king spa suite was everything we wanted it to be. It was clean and spacious. The pool was small but great for getting some energy out of the kids! Great view of the city too. Perfect location to walk wherever with a million things within a few minutes walk. Staff was nice and we will return!
- 5/5
Great location, friendly staff, clean and very comfortable rooms. There are restaurants, shopping, grocery stores etc all within walking distance.
- 5/5
Good location, friendly, clean.
- 5/5
Great Staff ! Stay was very comfortable and the hotel has a great location near plenty of restaurants
- 4/5
Nice room! Very spacious and clean. Will definitely stay here again
- 5/5
Nice and clean hotel. In walking distance of many bars and restaurants. I would stay here again.
- 4/5
We had issues with our Air conditioner. Front desk staff sent help and we ended up getting changed to a different room. New room had issues with bath tub drainage but overall was good. Staff very friendly and attentive. Door man great. Coffee and water in lobby was delicious.
- 5/5
Spacious and modern rooms. Clean property. Valet service - a bit pricey and takes a little while to fetch the car, but similar to other downtown hotels. Cafe downstairs serving breakfast and starbucks close by. Within walking distance to Michigan Ave and Riverfront - ideally located. Hotel staff were very friendly and readily accomodated our needs to etxend it for a few hours with a little extra fees.
- 5/5
Amazing hotel! Close to every store you’ll ever need during your stay.
- 5/5
Great location close to shopping and restaurants.
- 5/5
Room clean great staff
- 4/5
Staff was great
- 5/5
Staff was top notch, room was clean and comfortable, location was perfect for walking or using public transportation. We enjoyed one breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Our only complaint was the heat, which was very touchy. One degree change on the wall thermostat sent the room temperature into extremes.
- 5/5
Everything stood out over all and equally.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff!
- 1/5
$32 a night “destination fee” that they tell you after you checkout so you don’t cancel on them. Lady at the counter tells me, “Oh it should have been stated at the bottom of your reservation when you paid.” Please don’t gaslight me into believing that it’s normal for a hotel to charge you again after finishing your stay. What’s next? River fee? Is an invoice going to be sent to my address a month after my stay? Ridiculous. I won’t be staying at any of these locations or any other locations if any that is owned by the parent company and implore anyone else to take the same stance as well.
- 5/5
Beautiful room & view!
- 5/5
Staff so nice, room and views amazing, rooftop pool lovely, wifi was only negative
- 5/5
Very nice hotel. The staff were friendly the property and room was clean.
- 5/5
From the moment I walked in, I knew it was going to be a great stay. Friendly, helpful staff… Clean and elevated decor and ambiance. I booked a luxury suite which was absolutely amazing. Room was clean and stocked with all the amenities I needed and more. So spacious, clean and well kept. The hot shower after a long day spent at a conference was much needed and the large spa was an extra bonus. The king bed was spacious and so comfy.. one of the best nights sleep I’ve had in a long while. The room was quiet with nice windows and view of the hustle and bustle of the city below. After an evening out in the city.. we finished the night off with some amazing cocktails at CBR, the in hotel lounge/ restaurant. Our bartender was fabulous and the drinks nothing short of amazing!! My first time at the Royal Sonesta but this will most definitely be my go to for future visits… very, very impressed and completely 100% satisfied with our stay.. everything was perfect and centrally located and in close proximity to all river north has to offer.. Absolutley loved it here!!!❤️

Room was spotless, staff was okay, valet parking was not good at all.
- 5/5
Everything, Everyone was Great!!!
- 3/5
Door man and front staff were very friendly. Location was not far from most things but not walking distance. Food at restaurant was very good . We had avocado toast and chiquiles. Pool is NOT heated although indoor and room temp is hot. Rooms were quiet.
- 5/5
All of the above 10/10 the whole staff was excellent
- 5/5
The staff— all of them, from the doormen to the front desk to the maids— were friendly and always had a smile and bright greeting. No issues with anything and the room was pleasant & very clean.

Room was very clean

The restaurant is good downstairs but the hotel its self isn’t that great. Had to move to a different room when we first got there since the room wasn’t actually cleaned.
- 3/5
service was bad
- 4/5
It was all good
- 5/5
Clean great staff they let us store our luggage after check out until our flight.
- 5/5
Great location, wonderful staff, comfortable bed
- 5/5
Friendly staff throughout, room was clean and comfortable
- 5/5
This was my second time staying at this hotel, everyone is very helpful and friendly from front desk to door man and staff, rooms were clean and updated, also had a swimming pool, would continue my stays here without a doubt
- 5/5
Clean room, staff at front desk & bar was amazing, stayed 2 nights celebrating my birthday & everyone was so helpful, nice, accommodating to make my stay excellent. Will be staying here again soon.
- 4/5
Room was great, staff was wonderful and valet was easy. Got the Spa Junior Suite for anniversary and we really enjoyed the tub! No complaints other than the cleaning staff came into our room while we were gone and had a DND sign on our door. Just found it odd but wasn’t a big deal in the end!
- 5/5
Everything was great.
- 5/5
Clean room and excellent location
- 5/5
Highly recommended. Great location for shopping and dining.
- 5/5
Room was perfect, the staff was so friendly.
- 4/5
Clean room, nice staff
- 5/5
Great room, location, & service. I love both locations for royal sonesta in Chicago.
- 1/5
I rarely have issues with Hotels especially in chicago but it just felt like issue after issue. We paid for city view but all we got was an up close stare at someones office (facing another building) While we remained grateful to be able to stay there it still felt like we got short changed. Our heater wasn’t working (we even put the temp up to max and nothing changed) so we just assumed because of the big windows it would be slightly chilly so my partner requested an extra blanket. On the 3rd night we asked lobby to check the toilet for it would not stop running water. When we came back the room was nice and hot so I assumed the engineer caught it wasn’t working properly. There must've been a miscommunication because the toilet was never fixed. Although we were glad the heat was fixed it was towards the last night there and the toilet was still constantly running water.
- 5/5
Excellent Staff. Comfortable rooms.
- 5/5
The room was super clean and beautiful and very friendly staff. Specially the bartender, he was the only one for some time and he managed to make drinks and serve the tables with top notch customer service. He made everyone feel special!
- 5/5
Great location. Very friendly and attentive staff. Very comfortable and modern rooms.
- 5/5
The room was amazing, the staff was very friendly and welcoming, check in and check out was great, amenities were wonderful, everything was beyond my expectations I will definitely be returning
- 1/5
Room , staff everything. They gave me a queen room when I paid for a deluxe king city view. No early check in or late check out since it was our wedding anniversary. Gave all the upgrades to the high class ppl. It was just terrible I will not be going back. I need a full refund or half my money back for not being in the correct room.
- 1/5
The staff was not helpful. Terrible experience.
- 5/5
Thank you to the Royal Sonesta team for making our anniversary truly memorable. We had a wonderful stay and would absolutely come back again.
- 5/5
Great staff.. great location.. great large room.. will book again.
- 5/5
The hotel was great. They gave me a free bottle of wine due to a mix up with my reservation. The staff was really great and accommodating.
- 1/5
Entire stay was very unpleasant. Hotel.com customer service was very unprofessional in dealing with my problem with the hotel. No comment. Would not return
- 1/5
Lack of understanding and inconvenient
- 5/5
We were upgraded to a full suite room upon arriving! Also a bottle of wine for being premium members and a late checkout of 2pm. Gorgeous bathroom and space. Close to everything. Nate at the bar served fabulous drinks and was knowledgeable about allergies so I could order happy hour nibbles. Overall we come back over and over. Love it here!
- 5/5
Lovely staff, very clean hotel, convenient location.
- 5/5
Great place
- 5/5
Such a nice hotel. Clean and well stocked room.
- 5/5
Yes
- 5/5
Breakfast menu was great. I enjoyed the large coffee cup.
- 5/5
Location is very co. Enient to Muchigan Avenue, and theee are dozens of excellent dining options within walking diatance. We left an Apple Watch in our suite, called the hitel when we realized it the next day and followed their instructions and completed paperwork on a website. The watch was found and had already been inventoried into security. A label was printed on a Monday, watch was shipped out on a Tuesday, and it was back in my hands on Wednesday. Bravo to honest and accommodating staff!
- 1/5
Guess service was so unprofessional and I got handicapped room when I was trying to get junior king suite if look at all the times I stayed I only stayed in the junior king suite with Spa
- 5/5
Room is clean and updated. Very safe and convenient location. Offsite parking garages are easy to find. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
The location was convenient to shops and to food. Staff was very professional and personable. The room was clean and very roomy. The beds were very comfortable. I booked the spa suite. Definitely recommended. I was a little apprehensive of how clean the tub would be, however everything was very clean and exceeded my expectations. The tub is very deep for prime soaking and the water was plenty hot for as much as the tub holds. The only thing I might say on the slightest low end is the parking, since they do not have onsite parking unless you opt to use valet. However, there is multiple parking garages near with security on site. We will definitely book this site again for future visits.
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
The staff was anmazing and the location within the city was great.
- 3/5
Requested early check-in and was told I’d be contacted but never was. The tub turned on by itsself at like 1am and scared the crap out of us.
- 5/5
Thank you great very good service
- 4/5
Clean, friendly, good location.
- 5/5
Courteous and attentive staff, clean and comfortable room. Shiny bathroom with fluffy towels. We were provided with everything we asked for, including storage for our luggage after checkout while we shopped.
- 5/5
It was really clean we loved the free upgrade thank you!
- 5/5
Great sized room for good price. Bed was a bit hard.
- 5/5
Room was upgraded. Clean and vet nice. Staff was great. I’d recommend
- 4/5
Didn't get one
- 5/5
Be aware that, at least for our stay, the restaurant was closed on Monday and Tuesday. And the remotes didn't quite always work quite right but it wasn't a big deal for us. Overall, very lovely.
- 2/5
Didn’t have hot water for shower on 3 occasions. 😭. Later was told it’s been an issue. Other than that it was fine.
- 5/5
Great staff and location
- 4/5
Nice, clean rooms and friendly staff. The indoor pool was great for our kids.
- 5/5
Loved the room and the location
- 5/5
We had a great stay! The experience was great from beginning to end.
- 5/5
Shower was dirty but we were given a room change asap and they gave us another bottle of wine for free.
- 1/5
They don’t offered free breakfast.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff. Great room. Great mini bar, which has become increasingly hard to find. Only issue was no heat in the gym!
- 5/5
Staff was great
- 2/5
Staffs were nice, and location was good. Most of the issue is the hotel itself nothing to do with the staffs there. Very disappointing experience. I would have gave it a one star if it wasn't the staff was nice and kind.
- 5/5
Great experience. Our favorite hotel!
- 5/5
Spacious room, awesome jetted tub, good location. Wonderful place to stay!
- 5/5
Great property and room
- 2/5
Wasn’t to happy with the room
- 3/5
The lobby, restaurant and room were very chic.
- 5/5
Great place! Location, staff, room, everything
- 5/5
Hey! the staff was terrific, from the front door, to the registration to the cleaning folks. All so helpful and made you feel as though you matter. Well done
- 5/5
Spacious, good for both families or a couples trip.
- 3/5
Staff was great. Booked a VIP room and had to call down to request the bottle of free wine advertised. No room upgrade offered, view was directly to the side, of a brick building, nothing special.
- 4/5
Loved the lobby/lounge area. Centrally located. The sheers covering the window were shredded a little. I wished there had been robes supplied.
- 2/5
When we arrived and got our room… We went up to find that it was still dirty and used from the last customers. They did make it right by upgrading our room.
- 5/5
Everyone was great. A special shout out to Tareka and Nate who worked behind the bar!
- 1/5
Heat was out the entire night.
- 3/5
The room was clean and the staff I encountered were nice. There was no hot water the evening I was there and the television remote didn't work. They switched me to a different room, unfortunately it didn't have a king bed which is what I paid for. Had I know I wouldn't have switched. There was still no hot water until the morning.
- 5/5
Yes the room was great and it was a spacious with a great view!
- 5/5
The room was beautiful ❤️❤️ I enjoyed the hot tub and the views !!
- 4/5
The view from the room, the free wine, and the staff was friendly.
- 5/5
Absolutely beautiful . Welcoming staff amazing food Andy’s jazz bar around the corner was an added bonus. I would recommend this hotel and surrounding area to everyone
- 5/5
Waffles with Nutella and fresh berries! Staff at the Sonesta were exceptional.
- 5/5
My husband and I stayed for the weekend to shop and celebrate our Anniversary. We didn't anticipate an early arrival, but the front desk were so friendly and able to accomodate the early check in for us. Our room was a corner room at the end of the hallway with the most beautiful view of the city. This location is perfectly set in the middle of everything we were looking to do within our short stay. We enjoyed dinner and drinks downstairs at hotel restaurant/bar then walked to the riverwalk and enjoyed a few other stops along the way. We will definately stay here again!
- 2/5
Friendly staff but if i new there was going to be a water outage ahead of time i would not have stayed here.
- 4/5
Friendly helpful staff. Nice amenities. Room was bit tired looking-sheets were shredded in few places, bedding was ill fitting, stains in tub. Heat didn’t seem to be working properly, room didn’t stay warm.
- 4/5
Not rellevant
- 5/5
NA
- 4/5
The top shelf of the vanity is not flush against the wall. So my expensive lipstick fell behind it and there was no way to retrieve it. Of course the lighting was so dim. Worse than many hotels. Perhaps some brighter light bulbs would help. The staff were lovely. Rooms were fine with the exception of the above.
- 5/5
Wonderful customer service, great location!
- 3/5
Could Be updated the amenities for Bathroom should be up to par. The tv didn’t work correctly the wifi wasn’t working half The visit
- 4/5
The bellman spedro? and the woman who checked us out of our room on Sunday morning were OUTSTANDING.
- 5/5
Junior suite was fantastic
- 5/5
Excellent mini suite. Charming staff
- 5/5
Very helpful and friendly staff. Spatious and clean room. Excellent location. No complaints!
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean hotel. Convenient to our desired destinations in the city. We’ll be back.
- 4/5
Room and people were nice, no streaming on the TV, the terrace was closed and there was no where to smoke
- 5/5
I stay here every time i come to Chicago. The spa tub is so nice. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel like you are at home. Cant say enough about the hotel.
- 4/5
Nice hotel, Spiro was very helpful and great representative of the property, having been on the 9th floor and still annoyed by the local fire station and the numerous calls for service and noise heard all night long, clean and quiet otherwise. Would return but not on the west side of the hotel, would request the east side for sure away from the traffic and siren noise
- 5/5
Great place - stayed with extended family. Lounge areas and amenities met everyone’s needs
- 5/5
Amazing!
- 5/5
Very comfy beds, clean decent rooms...cozy hotel...excellent staff, loved the "living room for a cup of coffee and just a place to hand out vs the room...used the gym too...liked the location...bus right outside the door and the L too! right around corner!!! will stay again when in town!
- 3/5
The hotel itself is comfortable, but it feels a bit more dated in person than it appears in the pictures. That said, I really loved the soaking tub — it was honestly the highlight of the stay and almost made the whole trip worth it by itself. In all, a decent experience with some high points, but room for improvement. Very walkable to magnificent mile attractions.
- 5/5
Made my anniversary (and later my engagement) trip so special! Hotel staff went out of the way to make sure every detail was perfect and special. Love this place!!
- 4/5
Overall was great stay
- 5/5
Staff and rooms were amazing. Will book this hotel again when we come back.
- 5/5
Great location and very nice room. Pool was clean and very well maintained. Loved it- would stay there again.
- 5/5
Great stay for anniversary weekend. Staff is friendly and accommodating.
- 5/5
Didn’t eat
- 5/5
Staff, amenities, cleanliness, and location. Makes this hotel a good stay for your next vacation everything was wonderful. Thank you will stay again.
- 5/5
Great Hotel, location and service:) Loved swimming pool:)
- 5/5
Friendly staff that goes above and beyond. Our stay was incredible. The hotel looks very magical for the holidays. Pool was just what we needed. Kid and pet friendly. Will definitely be back.
- 4/5
the only thing i didn’t like was the unnecessary extra payments or charges we experienced once getting there that wasn’t mentioned when booking. They make you pay $100 when you check in and then there’s no parking, they say they have a parking garage but it’s $70 a night. which online said it was less money and that there were ‘discounts’ for it but there wasn’t any.
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Fantastic area, clean room & building, amazing staff. Will definitely be staying again whenever in town.
- 5/5
Great room!
- 5/5
Great front desk staff. Lovely rooms.
- 5/5
Clean room, easy checkout, and friendly staff
- 5/5
Staff was so friendly and helpful. Beautiful hotel!! Would stay here again.
- 5/5
Maravilhoso!
- 5/5
Everyone was very nice
- 5/5
We stayed at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Chicago as part of a two week trip. We arrived very early (11:00 a.m.) expecting to check our bags and were told or room was ready. What a nice surprise. Our room was comfortable and clean. The location was near the Chicago River, multiple restaurants and public transportation.
- 5/5
clean room and staff is very good
- 5/5
The room was beautiful. Lots of great amenities. This room had one of the best jacuzzi tubs I have had offered in my hotel room.
- 5/5
Staff was very accommodating in the rooms were posh. Would stay again.
- 5/5
The room was clean and comfy and the staff were very kind and helpful (I use a cane and was staying at the hotel for a nearby conference without my partner so needed help with my bags). The gentleman that helped with my bags (I did not catch his name) and the receptionist (she is a brunette and I think her name starts with P, Patti or Penny?) were so nice. She helped me with 1 hr extended checkout due to the hours of my conference. The server and staff at the restaurant were kind as well in accommodating me with my celiac disease. Great customer service from everyone, would stay here again.
- 5/5
I didn't see any breakfast options within the hotel.
- 5/5
Staff very friendly and appreciated the upgrade, also a small thing but huge for me there was plenty of towels in room. Enjoyed conversations with concierge Lee.
- 4/5
We had a junior suite and the room was comfortable, spacious, and cozy. The bathroom was also spacious and spotless.
- 5/5
This hotel was wonderful. We went for an overnight visit to Chicago with our daughter’s family. The location was perfect for all the sites we planned to see. A number of good restaurants within a short walk from the hotel. We had fun in the beautiful pool with our grandsons. It had just been reopened after renovations. The pool room was a bit chilly and the water could have been warmer but we chalked it up to having just reopened. We were all freezing after swimming for about 45 minutes. Check-in was fast and easy and the young man that helped us was a delight. Great beds and shower. Breakfast in the CBR was wonderful. One of our young grandsons has food allergies so the menu was very limited for him. We brought in some vegan doughnuts for him but they wouldn’t let him eat them in the restaurant. That was disappointing for us all, especially him. Overall, a really good experience and we would definitely come back again.
- 2/5
On checkin, we are directed to a room that is far from what we reserved. Attempting to remedy the situation, we get the “ blow off” response , we are at capacity and there are no rooms available with our original specs. On a random Tuesday, come on ?!? Only offered option /accommodation is a dining “credit” to the restaurant that is to close in 10 mins or switch to a room with double queens. Again, not to our specs. of original reservation. Having stayed at this facility previously, I know what capacity looks like and this was not it. After some back and forth in an attempt to sort things out. I asked the evening manager what he would do in our situation. His response was, “ I would cancel the reservation and find another hotel”. Nice…! Customer service at its finest ! Making reservations here for Nostalgia reasons, we decide to go to dinner to think on it and likely cancel and switch hotels. Mainly out of principle, and now lack of flexibility from management. At dinner we receive a dm that a room that we originally booked, miraculously had a cancelation. After asking the parking attendant about haveing a low attendance for the night. We move our belongings at 10 pm and have no other follow up or accommodation from staff. On check out, no adjustments, credits or even taking care of the parking for us.
- 5/5
The room was great. The staff was excellent
- 5/5
My favorite place to stay when I go to Chicago!
- 5/5
The receptionist on Saturday November 8th day shift did a great job.
- 5/5
Wish you would have given a choice of wine. The wine wa to dry.
- 4/5
Room was clean but outdated. Front desk was fantastic!!
- 5/5
The room was stunning The location was perfect I will come back
- 5/5
Got a surprise upgrade, which was great. The room was clean, especially the bathroom and spa tub which i was iffy about. Parking at the hotel its self if expensive but we figured everything is walking distance and we found a parking love just behind the hotel that was $63 for 24hrs
- 4/5
HDMI not connecting to tv, rooftop closed, pool closed go maintenance:(. Otherwise clean
- 4/5
Yes
- 5/5
Room was outstanding. Staff was very clean and well laid out. Location, accommodations, everything was outstanding. Will be back!!
- 5/5
Comfortable room. Friendly, helpful staff. Very convient to Red Line.
- 5/5
Great room with a nice view and very comfortable.
- 5/5
Had a great experience visiting this hotel w/ my significant other. Would definitely stay here again!
- 5/5
Great hotel
- 5/5
Only thing I would mention is that there was a bit of wallpaper peeling from the wall. Maybe the room should have been better inspected.
- 5/5
Excellent!!!!
- 5/5
The staff did an incredible job providing excellent service on my birthday! Sonesta and staff provided a gift of great wine, chocolates and a beautiful suite - the experience was top notch! We also enjoyed the hotel restaurant which we engaged in happy hour and breakfast! The location was minutes away from many Chicago staples.
- 5/5
Loved that they had free coffee in the lounge. The door man was great. Very great area and pet friendly!
- 3/5
There is a fire station very close to this hotel and I heard sirens into the early morning hours. Very frustrating as I could not sleep!
- 5/5
Royal Sonesta has become our go-to stay when we are in Chicago. The staff is great and the rooms are always clean and comfortable..
- 5/5
Great service
- 5/5
Nice place. Good location. Nice rooms and great staff.
- 5/5
Great stay. Great location.
- 5/5
Everything was amazing
- 4/5
The room was clean, the bed was SUPER COMFY, and staff was great! The carpet was dated, but I also understand that flooring updating is a big undertaking. Overall, reasonably priced for a business situation.
- 4/5
Good hotel. There were police called out for some situation outside that kinda made it feel unsafe.
- 3/5
I received a room, where the fairly loud ventilation of the aircondition was impossible to be switched off, which negatively impacted my stay.
- 5/5
Nice
- 5/5
Room was clean, entry was safe.
- 5/5
The door men were very helpful.
- 5/5
This property was very quiet and perfectly situated within walking distance of everything. The staff was very friendly and was always smiling. I would definitely stay here again
- 5/5
It was a short stay for me, but I wished I could have stayed longer. Very clean and the staff were super friendly. The lobby is small and very cozy. The whole vibe is just so inviting. The location is also very central.
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly and accommodating.
- 3/5
Great staff. Very nice and attentive. The room was in poor condition with the headboard ripped, the ceiling in the bathroom peeling and coming apart.
- 2/5
Room had wet floor
- 5/5
Everything was great. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful, the rooms were clean, and the location was awesome
- 5/5
Lovely, friendly, clean hotel. Great location too. I'd stay here again!
- 1/5
This is a nice hotel in a convenient area. There's nothing exceptional about it but in general it was clean and spacious. What is awful is that on Expedia advertised it - and STILL advertises it - as having a pool when in fact it has been closed since March. I was really aggrieved to discover this upon check in but was absolutely staggered when the receptionist started arguing with me that this wasn't their fault and aggressive told me to "take it up with expedia". This is not true. They are complicit in falsely advertising their hotel (as evidenced by the fact that it is STILL not changed). But her attitude was uniquely appalling. Despite good service from other members of staff I would not recommend this hotel because of this sadly. She has no place in customer service and the hotel - which is still advertised wrongly - has essentially been knowingly misleading people who purchase a room from them.
- 4/5
Clean room. Friendly staff. I would have liked more food options, especially the ability to have something Sunday for dinner or a room service option. The TV remote didn’t work either, a smart TV with the ability to get movies would have been appreciated.
- 1/5
I booked a hotel in Chicago with almost a year of advance. A week before my stay I have called the Residence Inn in Chicago to confirm having 2 queen beds in the room and to ask about late check out (afer running a marathon that morning). At that time it was still ok. The day I came to check in, I was told that my reservation was cancelled. I was told to contact Expedia to fix the situation. I was offered a similar room in different hotel after about 45 min of dealing with Expedia on the phone. Using Expedia expose you to this kind of “attractions”. Hotels will always take their own guests first and kick you out. Do you still want to use Expedia? I am canceling them.
- 4/5
The staff were extremely friendly and the room was always clean. We really appreciated the credit for the restaurant and we used it on a delicious breakfast. The only the thing I would have liked to see was tea and coffee in the room. The coffee in the lobby in the morning was nice but with limited hours on it I really missed having it in the room.
- 5/5
My husband and I were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary and absolutely loved our stay here from the moment we arrived. Juliana checked us in and she was so welcoming and delightful. We were surprised and happy to hear that our room was upgraded to a suite with a city view. Upon entering our room we were greeted with candlelight and rose petals on our bed, a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates. Everything was perfect including the location where we were within walking distance excellent restaurants, museums etc. we plan to return next year.
- 3/5
Young lady up front was extremely rude and had terrible energy whenever she helped us out. View and beds were nice
- 5/5
We had the best time in all the lands here. Will remember it forever ❤️❤️
- 4/5
Nice property in an area that has become very sketchy. Open drug use and homelessness. Pretty scary on Friday and saturday night immediately around the property. trash and litter all around the place.
- 5/5
Awesome river north location, close to riverwalk, Michigan Ave, and lots of restaurants. Staff was helpful and friendly. Onsite restaurant was good. Wonderful large room, but there were a few items needing maintenance. Overall an excellent hotel.
- 4/5
Water pressure, etc, was good, but the tub/shower is a little small and would benefit from the addition of a grab bar for older gents like myself. I chose the hotel, in part, due to it's proximity to the Red Line transit station, which was a "plus"along with the many restaurant choices in the area. Would stay again - at the right price point. (The lobby was always freezing!)
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
Great location, and value for money.
- 5/5
Yes great location and experience
- 4/5
The area is convenient and the hotel is well kept and the CBR bar is very pleasant. The city or businesses nearby need to clean up trash on the streets and sidewalk.
- 5/5
Very pleased with everything!
- 4/5
There should be a sign in the room about this.
- 4/5
Super nice staff. Great location.
- 3/5
Nice hotel good staff
- 5/5
Staff were incredible! Super friendly and helpful, Antwoine helped a lot with our bags haha, he was amazing. All made our Chicago trip great.
- 4/5
It is clean and close to cicty center
- 5/5
The swimming pool is nice!
- 4/5
Wish they had room service. Great location
- 5/5
Hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful, rooms modern and comfy, great happy hour! Great location
- 5/5
Great hotel and very clean and friendly.
- 2/5
A very subpar stay. It's too bad because we were looking forward to it. Won't stay here again.
- 5/5
Room was cleaned daily. Great space and loca.
- 4/5
We very much enjoyed our stay. The amenities were as advertised and the staff was accommodating. Two items or feedback reduced the rating slightly: 1. Pillow were not firm. We requested firmer pillows but they only brought more very soft pillows. Seem comfy at first but no support and impacted both our sleep. 2. A/C was just OK. It was warm for September, but we had to have the thermostat to its lowest setting at 65 to be comfortable sleeping. We kept the curtains closed all day too - the room does let in some beautiful views and a lot of sun!
- 5/5
Everything was very good; the staff was very friendly ... very friendly.
- 5/5
Great location and staff
- 4/5
X
- 5/5
The only critique I would offer is that we needed to give the front desk a heads up for cleaning service upon leaving for a day trip. We called downstairs for extra towels a couple of times.
- 5/5
Excellent location with everything near. Staff is wonderful and very knowledgeable.
- 4/5
Ideal location
- 4/5
The hotel offers nothing other than a room and a fitness center which we did not use. There is no food or drink available at the hotel. Women at the front desk were very friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
very calming environment inside the hotel, and the terrace was a great place to get away from the city noise
- 5/5
Staff is very friendly.
- 4/5
The hotel staff was great from the door men to front desk staff everyone was great.
- 1/5
I experienced several significant issues during my stay: False Advertising: The room I was assigned was not comparable to the quality and condition depicted in the photographs and descriptions on your website. The discrepancy was significant and misleading. Lack of Cleanliness: The overall cleanliness of the room was far below acceptable standards. [If you have them, add a specific detail, such as "The bathroom had not been properly sanitized, and the linens were questionable."] Non-functional Amenities: During a weekend heatwave, the air conditioning in my room was completely non-operational. This resulted in an uncomfortably hot environment that made sleep impossible. Disturbances and Noise: The room was not soundproofed as expected, leading to excessive noise from the surrounding area that further disrupted my rest throughout the night. Unavailable Services: The advertised breakfast service was not available at the scheduled time, with staff informing guests it would be opening late. These issues, particularly the non-functioning air conditioning during extreme heat and the poor cleanliness, rendered my stay intolerable and failed to meet expectations.
- 5/5
The property is very nice.Enjoying our stay!
- 4/5
Staff is great!
- 3/5
Room has lot's of dust. and night time floor hallway smells of mariana can't stay in the room. never staying again.
- 5/5
Our stay at the hotel was awesome. The room was spacious, in a great location to see things in the city, and the staff was so friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Chicago.
- 5/5
Location was great! We were able to walk - safely - to so many places. Although coffee was available daily in the “living room”, a coffee maker in the room would be nice. If we were to travel to Chicago again we would definitely consider this hotel.
- 5/5
Would definitely stay here again the location couldn’t have been better. It was clean since we felt very safe. Thanks so much. We really enjoyed our trip. Steve and Bobbi
- 1/5
The receptionist was unfriendly didn’t help started sending me to an occupied room. Then I got a dirty unclean room see picture. If I hadn’t prepaid I would have moved out immediately
- 5/5
Lovely staff. Big room. Comfy bed.
- 5/5
The Staff, especially Shaunda was so kind and helpful! They really made the stay great. Also, incredibly accommodating and dog friendly! Rooms are a bit old but the staff is incredible.
- 5/5
Great location and great staff.

I love staying at this location in River North. They have another location on Wacker. I’m not impressed. From the front desk to the BellMen. I give this place a 12 out of 10. They also have a bar with the amazing bartender. I can’t think of his name, but the drinks are great. The food is also wonderful. I wish I had other photos but everything else’s videos and I can’t upload the videos.

Show head was clogged. Barely enough dripping to rinse off. Notified the front desk at 8am on Tuesday. By 6pm it was still not fixed. Had to request again and wait, which caused me to be late to a scheduled work dinner.

The location was super convenient, and the staff were mostly nice and friendly which I really liked. The bathroom door was broken which was a hassle, but they fixed it right away. I booked a deluxe twin for 3 guests and upgraded to a one-bedroom suite(1 king bed), but they didn't set up the sofa bed. This lack of attention to detail was a bit disappointing. Still I'd definitely recommend this place for a Chicago trip!!

The hotel was fantastic, the employees were amazing.

Great location and very attentive staff. Walkable to museums, public transport, river cruises, navy pier. Rooms are good size and beds are so comfy.

Straight pounding hole.

We came for business but stayed a little longer to see the city. Chicago is absolutely gorgeous and The Royal Sonesta River North is in the perfect location to see it all. Lots of great restaurants close, river walk is right there, trains within a minute of leaving the front entrance. Staff was excellent with directions and suggestions, so clean and will definitely stay here again. The two concierge gentlemen were amazing. Thank you

The property and staff were amazing from arrival with hotel porters, Antwonne & Spiro to front desk team and Gabby. The wonderful Shaunda always there to assist and who can forget the amazing restaurant and bar staff starting with Nate, Jess, Miguel and Chef Alfonso. Truly fantastic!

Enjoy our stay. Great location

Generally, the hotel is nice enough with excellent front desk people. But, a little frayed furniture was a put off and other room details like a phone that doesn't work, a poorly maintained Peloton (one of the reasons I booked here was for the bike, gym and pool) and the TV kept going in and out. Also, and this may be a Hotels.com problem, not knowing certain amenities are not available (pool) beforehand is annoying. Still, cannot be locale and is decent enough.

Stayed here for a ladies weekend. We loved the location in proximity to shopping on Michigan Ave, sights of Navy Pier, and art near Millennium Park. We felt safe and comfortable the entire stay. The staff was friendly, informative, and just over nice (the door men are so funny and great guys to have a convo with). Would recommend.
- 5/5
The room was clean and smelled clean. The entire staff was helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay there again.

Great location.

Hotel was very clean and had everything we needed. Loved that it was quiet and sound proof.

The worst experience I had in my whole life may charge my card three times and when I called they told me oh we never see your transaction and I sent the hotel manager to approve for the transaction for one night almost $697
- 3/5
TV didn’t work correctly(Guide kept sticking). Need microwaves and better iron in rooms.
- 3/5
The property is located in a nice area. Making it convenient to get to your destinations. My room took awhile to cool off because the air wasn’t blowing like it should. I had to adjust the thermostat several times, so that I can sleep comfortably. I enjoyed valet. They were very prompt with getting my vehicle to me. There is a $100 per night deposit with your total cost if you didn’t know. I received a complimentary bottle of wine upon my arrival, which was great. Nothing really stood out to me at this hotel, so I don’t think I’ll be staying again.
- 5/5
Great location, very close to popular restaurants, and walkable to the city bus stops to easily get around town if you don't want to drive. Very friendly staff, kindly accommodated us when we had to leave our car at valet for a few hours more while we finished our sightseeing. Very clean and quiet rooms. They have the best bathrobes I ever used! One bummer was that the pool was closed due to maintenance during our stay in May '25 but the rooftop patio was beautiful and provided lovely views.

Loved the room. Nice and large. Comfy bed. QUIET which was awesome with all the sirens constantly going in the area. Tub and shower were fantastic until no hot water on the last day. Great location. Would stay here again. Property feels ready for a renovation.
- 3/5
Valet parking is expensive and not reliable. If you have a rental car, I do not recommend this hotel, or at least find an alternate parking garage (could even be much cheaper than the valet). Also, housekeeping left the trash and cleaning bottle in our room one day.
- 5/5
Staff was fabulous and accommodating :)
- 1/5
Valet scratched my car have yet to receive calls back after calling them for a month. Ridiculous, bullet holes on the side of the building next to a very unsafe plaza.

Booked a room for my cousins bachelorette party and it did not disappoint!! The amount of space, the luxurious feel, the bathroom!!!! The mattresses, I need in my house. I had the best sleep ever. Everything was perfect and the staff was amazing!!! Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
We loved how dog friendly the hotel was and proximity to restaurants and great neighborhood to explore
- 5/5
In town for a ball game. Closeness to the red line was a huge plus!
- 5/5
Everything was beautiful. There was a broken elevator for the last two days of our trip and a broken door. But ya know what, a server named Edgar treated me and my family with upmost respect. He was professional, loving, and a responsible worker. Everyone was amazing but Edgar especially stood out, because of him I forgot about any hotels hickups.

Very nice view

Every staff member were very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and updated. Very easy access to many great restaurants, sites and shopping.
- 5/5
Centrally located and in walking distance from the world famous river walk, Navy Pier etc.
- 2/5
The room was spacious, but the cleanliness was mediocre. The shower curtain was dirty, there was hair on the shower wall, and a dead fly in the bathtub. The leather headboard was also torn. Location: Located in the River North area — close to tourist spots but also near the bar scene. It didn’t feel safe to walk around at night. That said, the hotel did have security at the front entrance. Be aware: you’ll hear ambulance and fire truck sirens throughout the night. Staff: The staff were nice.

Our stay at The Royal Sonesta Chicago River North was truly fantastic. From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff, especially Gabby, greeted us warmly. Our room was spacious and spotless. The hotel's location in the city center with shops and restaurants are well within walking distance. We would highly recommend this hotel and its exceptional staff. We would definitely book this location again on our next visit.

Perfect vacation

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff was super friendly!

Very nice hotel with convenient location
- 4/5
Property has a very small load in space. Hotel key did not work on the room door twice. Swimming pool was out of order and it was buried in the fine print. Not what you want to find out on a hot sunny day. Other than that the property was clean and well maintained.
- 2/5
Our ac didn’t work properly until after my second complaint. We had friends staying a floor below, so had comparison! I had to set it to 65 for it to still be warmer than the hallways. We didn’t have hot water until our very last day. When I requested a late check-out, I was told we’d be charged $25… kinda figured with how many issues we had, we’d have been offered to have that charge removed. Overall, not stoked with the maintenance issues and lack of repair. Otherwise, great bar and staff. Just could use some work on the maintenance end, but maybe that’s why it was so cheap!
- 5/5
Location was great! Walking distance to a lot of places, train was 1 block away so it was easy to take transportation.
- 5/5
Had a billing problem and staff quickly resolved it.
- 5/5
Loved the 5 day stay we had only bad thing was it dose it loud because it is around bars but other than that it’s a perfect hotel for everything that’s close by the river every is close to each other
- 5/5
The area around the hotel is packed with restaurants, bars, and convenience stores—super walkable and fun. Only two minor cons: the terrace closes at 10 PM (wish it stayed open later), and the pool was closed during my visit. Still, this place blew me away. Highly recommend!
- 5/5
Wonderful staff! Convenient location for walking to restaurants, shopping and right next to a subway station
- 5/5
Excellent staff very friendly

The bed and pillows were amazing, I’ve never had a better nights sleep. I would live to know if and where I can purchase the same products!
- 5/5
Love this place!
- 3/5
Rooms could be updated. No kettle, no slippers or robe. Headboard peeling. Bedsheets felt bubbly
- 4/5
Great location and room was fantastic! Only negatives were a lengthy check in and access to the outside deck was closed at 10 PM. Probably a good idea for that, but it would’ve been nice to go out there for a nightcap.
- 5/5
Location was very great! Hotel was very clean and everything was smooth & easy checking in and out.
- 3/5
I stayed here before and everything was on spot no problem what so ever... But this time... I had to ask for my complementary wine and omong many other things.. I feel they either don't prepare for people arriving for the amount of days or they just rinse wash and repeat ...
- 4/5
We had one incident with some people hanging out at the building beside the hotel. They were heckling us and one took it far enough to follow us all the way to the door of the hotel, unfortunately at the time the key card wasn’t working and we couldn’t open the door and the man continued to harass us and another couple. When one of the hotel workers came to the door, he escalated the situation and didn’t offer real help. Thankfully everyone else working at the hotel was empathetic to the situation and gave us some credits to the restaurant but safety is a real issue. The restaurant attached to the hotel is convenient but the food is just ok.
- 3/5
the room seemed out of date and the bed headboard was peeling. the shower seemed very old and there was a clicking from the electric breaker in the rooms
- 5/5
Everything from staff and room. Especially the restaurant.
- 5/5
The staff was extremely friendly, welcoming, and informative about the city, aights, and restaurants. enjoyed the room and the location of the hotel in regards to events, venues and sights to see.
- 4/5
The staff was extremely helpful and friendly
- 5/5
Solid property - rooms are excellent, location is very central and the hotel overall is well kept. I would definitely come back and look forward to more stays with this property
- 5/5
I like that it was a walking distance shopping centers and the riverwalk.
- 4/5
Front desk staff and housekeeping staff were great, quick to respond to any concerns and good at answering my questions. The room was large and comfortable (altho the a/c was a bit noisy, since the fan turned on and off). Excellent location for a very short walk to many restaurants and reasonable (but a bit confusing) walk to Michigan Ave and many sights. But there were always hookers and strung out people on the street corners in front of the hotel - while 2 blocks away (at any of the comparable hotels) it was much more pleasant. After 9 pm, hotel guests must use a key card to enter the hotel, which made it feel less welcoming. My one breakfast in the hotel was fine.
- 5/5
The room was grand and the aesthetic was royal.
- 5/5
Everyone was wonderful and the property and rooms are very well maintained. Will definitely stay there again.
