Reviews
The hotel has a great location and friendly staff, but the rooms are outdated and in need of renovation. Many guests experienced issues with the shower, refrigerator, and air conditioning in their rooms.

Great location, comfortable rooms, nice breakfast.

Beautiful room and wonderful staff. Thank you!
- 3/5
Very dated property and room. The “self park” that was reviewed as a positive for others is across the street and $58 a night. Not so ideal. Otherwise location is fantastic
- 5/5
I stayed here for three nights and it was phenomenal! There are so many shops and restaurants within walking distance making this a very convenient spot.
- 3/5
Great location! Has not been updated since the early 90"s..? Room smelled very old, musty; sheets like old cigarettes. Worth the price for a quick overnight.
- 5/5
Ideal location. Close to shopping, restaurants, and other attractions.
- 3/5
The majority of the desk staff were so unfriendly! It was honestly awful.
- 5/5
The staff were super friendly, parking lot across the street and the location is wonderful. I would definitely stay again with my grandchildren. We took in all the Chicago sites.
- 5/5
Nice old school Chicago hotel...not updated ameneties but well kept.
- 5/5
Nice location and friendly staff
- 4/5
Great facility located in the middle of everything! Sites, shopping, and local transportation all close by. Hotel’s old and could use a touch up here or there. Challenging to charge electronics in your room. That needs a significant upgrade. Breakfast is OK and much appreciated given food costs in Chicago.
- 5/5
All good no issues
- 5/5
The two main complaints that I have is that there wasn’t a full length mirror anywhere and no complementary bottles of water in the room. Other than that, the beds were fantastic. The sheets were great. The pillows were awesome and the staff was terrific.
- 4/5
Beautiful old hotel in great area of Chicago. Steps to great restaurants, and shopping! I had a lower floor room and my only comment was related to noise from the plumbing or A/C system that did keep me up part of the night. The staff was great!

The front desk staff was always respectful and courteous. We would leave our room every day at approximately 8:00 AM and return at approximately 9:30 PM. On two separate occasions, we came back to our room and noticed someone had been in the room without our permission or to tidy the room. On the first occasion, someone used the restroom and did not flush the toilet. On the second occasion, we found a bucket of ice that had been sitting on the counter. I called the front desk and notified them each time we noticed something; however, we never received a follow up from a manager as we were told we would. This was our third time staying at the Whitehall and had never experienced this. We like the location as it is around the corner from our daughter's home, however this past visit is making us rethink our accommodations this coming fall/winter.

Comfy bed, street view, close to parking and mall. I loved being able to walk everywhere. One night I couldn't get warm water during my shower, had to push through for dinner plans.

My AC was not working and spent the night in a warm room despite engineering looking at it. Bed and dresser scuffed up. Breakfast scrambled eggs were hard.
- 4/5
Overall, I’ve had a good experience staying here. It’s perfectly located and easy to access all the attractions. While the hotel isn’t new, the room was clean and well-equipped. The breakfast was plentiful and energising but lacked healthy options. The reception staff could be more welcoming.
- 5/5
The staff deserves the highest marks, very friendly, helpful and polite. Big thanks to them for everything! Breakfast is great, but it starts to get repetitive when staying for a longer period of time. Great location.
- 2.5/5
Property was in a central location. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable. The shower inside the bath was not wonderful as the shower head was fixed and was not easy to shower. The breakfast was diabolical. Sugary cereals, the scrambled eggs were flavourless. The potatoes tasted dry and like they were left over from the previous day. There was no tea, yogurt, cheese or fruit salads, only bananas and little oranges. The room was quite dark because there was no main light, only a small side light.

Staff was amazing. Room was beautiful

The location and the breakfast were excellent. The AC was very noisy. Also, before our arrival we received a message saying that housekeeping was available upon request and had to be requested the day before, but during check-in we were told it was provided every other day.

The hotel is near the lake. 30 minutes from the Art Institute. A very nice walk on Michigan Ave. It is easy to reach the hotel. Not far from the subway. The bus stop is very close to the hotel.

This is an older hotel, which I did not know is part of the Best Western chain. Nothing wrong with that, but my room was smaller than I expected with B/W. Otherwise I had a good experience and would stay there again.

Beautiful and spacious room. A thief broke into the hotel and stole three bottles of perfume from me. I wasn't careful because I had hidden them under my clothes in my suitcase. The thief deliberately searched through my bag, and the perfumes were still perfectly sealed in their two duty-free bags, unopened and unused.
- 5/5
Great customer care
- 4/5
The breakfast was included in our stay. We went the first morning and while there were some options (french toast, eggs, chicken sausage and some veggie medley) we did not enjoy it. There is no decaf coffee available which made it unpleasant for my friend. So the last three days in town we went out to eat. It may be adequate for some but not for us.
- 5/5
I great hotel and location was perfect. Only thing I would change/add is a vending machine in lobby or on the floors for soft drinks. There was nowhere to get something to drink in the hotel after the bar closed. That was absolutely the only issue. Everything else was fantastic.

The location of this hotel could not be more perfect! Walking distance to everything. The staff were fantastic and the room was very comfortable. The hotel needs a facelift, it's old and shows, but don't let that deter you -- the location is worth it! the bed is comfortable, the room is very clean and the bathroom is fine. There was a problem with the temperature in the room. I got it sorted but my friend had the same in her room, so it's worth paying attention to when you arrive. But stay here. The location rocks!
- 4/5
The ambience- deliberately or not - keeps it retro, which contributes to the entire feeling of comfort. I found the following tiny details surprising: lack of bottled water in the room; lack of cheese at breakfast.

I liked this hotel. It certainly needs renovation but it does have its charm. Staff is very nice and highly efficient. My bed was warm and comfy, and they have a fitness room, all very important for me after tiring meetings and daily rush around the city. The hotel's location is perfect, close to public transportation and amenities and key tourist sites too. There was an issue with a flush in my room's toilet but the staff fixed it immediately.

I liked the location of the hotel. It was in middle of the city and pretty close to the downtown and we were able to walk everywhere and did not require bus/ubers and the staff was super nice I paid $450 per night and I expected atleast some water bottles already in the room, we did not have dental kit and for both of them we had to constantly call them and ask them to provide although they were nice about it and did nto hesistate but when you pay such amount you expect basic necessities in the hotel jsut like every other hotel. They also did not hotel slippers which i think is super important to walk around the room or just the hotel. It lacked few necessities and to add on the complimentary breakfast was horrible almost barely any other options apart from eggs, potatoes and sausages and the juices were not fresh as well. Very minimal options especially gluten-free or suagr-free stuff.

The staff was amazing and the location is great! I like the old fashioned style of the hotel and rooms. The breakfast left something to be desired- a year ago the complimentary breakfast was an amazing delicious spread but now as they are transitioning away from complimentary, it’s just your run of the mill cheap hotel breakfast.

The hotel might be going for a more classic look/vibe, but if not kept in good shape that aesthetic becomes dated and old. The breakfast was serviceable. The room it self had furniture that needed repair, corners that needed cleaning. There was an unpleasant odor in the hallway leading to the room.

Great to be back at the hotel after 3 years. Happy to have coffee service in the room and breakfast included, great improvement.
- 5/5
This hotel is on the magnificent mile. It’s close to everything. We hopped on the Big Bus Chicago. Which is less than a block away from the hotel. And so was Chicago 360. Metro is about a 7min walk which was great because we took it to/from Airport. Breakfast was included which was a good option. We didn’t request our room to be cleaned during our stay, although that was a option. Overall it was a nice 3 night stay.

Nice location, but that’s about it. The bed is also comfortable. Hotel is really old and worn out. People smoke in the hotel, carpet is stained everywhere. The rooms are old. Breakfast is very simple.

Hotel has history ( not your typical cookie-cutter place to stay but on par with amenities including onsite fitness gym and daily included breakfast ) tucked in a quiet neighborhood but walkable to tourist destinations with welcoming and courteous staff ( Sheryl in front desk was very welcoming and professional )
- 5/5

The hotel was very nice and just a short walk from Michigan Ave. Unfortunately the AC in most of the rooms wasn't working so our room was about 75-79 degrees the whole time we were there. They moved us to a new room part way through our trip but that room was just as warm. When we returned from the trip I called the Operations Manger Wyll Becker and he was incredibly responsive and apologetic and we were refunded for the full cost of our stay. Despite the AC issue, I would go back to the Whitehall simply for the high level of customer service that was provided.

location failed to server room - returned after a 12 hour day to an unmade bed (didn't put card on the pillow for clean sheets) dirty towels. No parking. when I complained at check out - Nothing done !!!
- 2.5/5
Location okay, close to public transportation. Comfortable bed. Reception staff relatively friendly and cooperative. 1. Found long hairs on my bed and in the bathroom on day of arrival, then more after taking a shower on the morning next day (see photos) 2. On at least one or two days no black tea for breakfast, because the manager was on holiday and forgot to order to replenish. At least that's what I was told. 3. There is no light switch next to the door, so when you enter at night, you have to navigate in the dark to your bed to turn on the lamp there. And there is no ceiling lights, so overall it is simply too dark in the room 4. Quality of breakfast is inferior (at least for international standards). Overall unhealthy - or maybe just "too American" for me ... 5. Staff preparing the breakfast is rude or at least unfriendly (by showing "fake friendly" smiles). Treating breakfast like a military operation, if you arrive 1 minute too late, you are out of luck getting something to eat. Short response from the staff: "We start on time and we end we clean up on time." (Which is basically 9:59:59 am SHARP during the week). 6. If you continue to sit in the breakfast room to "enjoy" your breakfast and have an interesting conversation with other guests after 10:00 am, they repeatedly want to through you out, giving the reason: so that the room can be cleaned up. But even after we left, there was no cleaning person in sight ... 7. Simply an unfriendly environment, which is why I will not check in there again.
- 5/5
It’s a great location! Felt comfortable. Not a dangerous area whatsoever. Staff were incredibly kind. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to be centrally located. It’s a bit older so the shower you have to pull the handle out and my first shower didn’t go well lol. Once I learned the magic trick it was wonderful. Great water pressure. The only other thing they need to replace the phone cord in room 1209.
- 5/5
I love the location of this hotel just down the street. There was a Starbucks and then on the next block there was a cute little market where we bought some really delicious food… it was called potash market. Even though the hotel is older, we like the vibe and the decor. One suggestion I might make is the heating and air conditioning. The room was quite warm when we arrived, but the room seems to get cold quite quickly! So it was tough to regulate the room temperature to our comfort. But we got past it and really enjoyed our stay! We will come back to this hotel.
- 3/5
The location is excellent, and the building has a nice classic vibe. Kudos to the staff, who were highly professional and attended to all our requests promptly. Breakfast was OK, and overall, the price-to-service ratio was OK I really wanted to like this place, but the beds were a letdown. The mattresses are super soft, which isn't great if you need back support. I ended up switching rooms because of some outside noise, but both rooms had the same issue with the beds and I also saw its a common critic. Also, the windows were pretty dirty and didn't open, so the room felt a bit stuffy.

They had been having issues with no AC throughout the whole hotel for a while and did not worn guess till they arrived. They would move you around room, but the issue was still the same and stated that there was no manager for the weekend.. breakfast was not worth it at all.

Sizeable clean rooms, but the hotel seems a little tired. Staff were helpful enough, if not exactly attentive. I've certainly no complaints and would stay here again, but it's average overall.

The Whitehall Hotel is located right off Michigan Avenue near the Hancock building. It is dwarfed by the huge buildings surrounding it, but that makes the views phenomenal. We were upgraded to a suite (couldn't believe it!) and our room came with a deck, king bedroom, living room, and wet bar. There was one bathroom and one half bath. It had lots of closet space and a safe. Water pressure was great and heated up fast. The fridge was empty, so we could stash food in it. Towels were large and good quality. The bed was incredibly comfortable - nice linens, too. Televisions are smart and let you log in with your Netflix. The staff were really nice and helpful. They stored our luggage on the last day for a few hours. Requests to the front desk (extra towels, housekeeping, restaurant details) were answered well and quickly. Yes, it could use a decor refresher, but, honestly, I prefer to be a specially treated guest in a friendly hotel with killer beds, great views, and reasonable prices. We will be back. Liked everything!

Was a greta place to stay! The only thing was the was the whistling sound coming from it seemed like the windows the got a bit annoying

We had a large room that was great for the price we paid for it. The breakfast spread was nice and reminded me of what you might find in little inns in Europe. Great. location to everything the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago offers without the excessive pricing.

Location is great. Close to many things. Staff helpful. Breakfast Buffett had plenty (but always same). Room quiet and roomy. Could never get hot water in sink even though I let it run a long time. Two times I called down and they sent plumbers up who immediately got hot water-never worked for me. Hot water tap also loose and always dripped(and never hot). I’m short shower head could not move to make easier for me.

The heat stopped working the first night of the trip. No one explained that the breakfast was complementary. The onsite parking is $60 per day and the elevator only holds 4 people.
- 4/5
Breakfast had a lot of options just wasn’t the greatest taste wise. WiFi very spotty- otherwise overall a great experience.
- 4/5
Overall, my stay was incredible. It was my 60th birthday and the staff was so accommodating and kind! the hotel did need some sprucing up, but I know it’s an old property and a full renovation is very expensive. I was told that every room had a Keurig, which was not the case and I did bring my own Keurig coffee, pods, hot, siders, etc. that I did not use. I also requested a microwave which was not in my room.

The hotel served its purpose but is a bit outdated and weathered and could use a good cleaning. Our TV didn’t work. While the toilet had a bidet, it’s not a standard toilet and looked more like one you’d find in a public restroom. Staff was nice and helpful. Good location.

If you're going to be staying at the whitehall hotel, just know that, yes. It is supposed to look dated, it is supposed to remined you of the late 20s so everything is as it should be. But don't worry they still keep things up to date to a certain point. With that being said, the close up mirror hang on the bathroom wall in room 608 looks like it's beginning to tear off the wall. And the toilets water pressure changes depending on the way you flush it. As for location, it's location is fantastic, everything if pretty much within walking distance, you have the magnificent mile just one block over, a mall across the street, many places to eat, and a post office within 0.2 miles incase you need need to ship something home because you don't have the room in your suitcase. But if walking isn’t your thing there are still plenty of buses that stop all around the block and only take a $2.25 bus fare. I ended up using their CTA ventra card and had only loaded $20 onto it, that $20 lasted me the etire duration of my trip (4 days) and I STILL have money left over. They also have taxi, uber, and lyft ride sevices. The rooms are great too, the bed was comfortable, the room was clean clean, and they offered to wash your laundry for an extra cost. The only issue i had with it was that a microwave wasn't provided, but that's okay, I didn't visit Chicago to stay in my hotel and eat microwavable foods. Asides that, the staff were friendly and were always readily available to answer any questio
- 5/5
Great location.
- 4/5
Great location, easy parking (right across the street?, plenty of space for 2 adults and 1 child. Breakfast was included, which was nice. Decor is outdated and bathroom needs some updating. The power outlets in the bathroom did not work so had to use the hair dryer outside the bathroom.
- 4/5
I wish they get rid of the carpets though , the stale smell in the room and hallways is because all the dirt in those carpets. Not good fir people with allergies like me lol Really bad breakfast, no decent food selection, very dirty restaurant with food spilled everywhere , tables full of dirty dishes . They stop bringing food 35 min before closing , unless you ask them to replenish it. When you ask the staff to clean the table, they usher you to the other room. Bad coffee, bad service and dismissive staff in the restaurant . Acting “surprised” when patrons are telling you the food trays are empty is pretty sad and shows the lack of training . The water at breakfast tasted like sewer. My second day I did not even bother to go again. Fast check in and checkout , which I liked . Excellent location, metres away from Michigan Ave and all the nice shops , restaurants and transportation .
- 3/5
Cons: Very dated, carpeted floors, tub shower, poor towel quality
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel, couldn't have asked for a better location and staff were friendly and welcoming.
- 1/5
Worst experience ever
- 3/5
Staff seemed to be annoyed everytime I talked to them, even at check in. Our first room had extreme water damage in the ceiling. Hotel kind of smelt like sewage or water damage. I personally won’t stay there again.
- 5/5
I have always been a fan of the Whitehall. Rooms are always very clean, the staff is friendly and the hotel location is spectacular.
- 5/5
Breakfast was amazing!
- 5/5
Great location, nice breakfast, well equiped gym.
- 5/5
Breakfast is excellent. The 3 days i was there it was different, not a repeat.
- 4/5
Older property needing some updates but the location cannot be beat. Would recommend. Excellent breakfast included.
- 5/5
Great place
- 4/5
The location of this hotel was Perfect!!! In addition, the buffet breakfast in the morning was so convenient and delicious!
- 5/5
I enjoyed the breakfast selection.
- 4/5
The hotel, while historic, is not as updated as we expected it to be. The staff was very kind and helpful. There are fun shops nearby, and the walk around feels safe.
- 4/5
Rooms were clean with historical feel, but could use updates. Staff was great!! Close to many amenities. Good selection for breakfast.
- 4/5
Clean room
- 5/5
Yes shopping nearby
- 5/5
Walking distance to downtown events and shops
- 4/5
Totally fine, nothing special, shower was very low and had a strange faucet. Staff was friendly and helpful
- 4/5
Breakfast was good!
- 5/5
The room was comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were satisfied with the breakfast. Plenty of choices.
- 2/5
The room was in good in general, but the service was not good at all.
- 5/5
Great area. Great staff. Comfortable bed.
- 5/5
Room was a nice size. Extremely clean. Even under the bed. No dusty shelves or surfaces. Linens were nice and clean. No stains and rips. Toilet paper, Kleenex and soaps / shampoos all stocked up. Didn’t need a reason to contact the front desk or HK staff on the three day stay. Netflix on the tv so I could unwind after a long day. Absolutely awesome location. Could see the river from the room, it’s about a block or two in the city. Located in the middle of the city around coffee and doughnut shops. Amazing dinner and lunch choices too all right in the heart of river north. Museums and shops all within walking distance. Absolutely will be back to this property. 10/10 rating.
- 4/5
Didnt like paying for parking and no gas stations close
- 4/5
Parking was a bit extreme and not included in the stay, $50.00 for overnight. Breakfast was scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes. No yogart or fruit. Did have apples, bananas & oranges. Pastries were available.
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
The only concern I would like to mention is that Room #509 could use some updates in the bathroom area. Specifically, the toilet may need to be replaced and the bathtub resurfaced. Addressing these improvements would greatly enhance the comfort of the room and overall guest experience. Aside from that, we had a wonderful stay and would absolutely return in the future. Thank you for your hospitality!
- 1/5
I was in bed asleep and another guest was accidentally given the same room and walked in. I called the front desk and they admitted they had given the room to another guest
- 3/5
Loud neighbors trying to get into our room because they didn’t know where the extra door led to and had loud music all night
- 2/5
there was no warm water for shower so that was veryyyy difficult as it was a cold few days!
- 5/5
Excellent stay and excellent breakfast
- 5/5
great boutique hotel! will definitely return
- 5/5
Clean great location
- 5/5
Room was good but the TV connection poor
- 5/5
Clean, great staff. Location.
- 5/5
Es tercera vez que voy a este hotel y me gusta apenas me entero que hay desayuno la muchacha que nos registro no dijo del desayuno y las primeras veces nadie dijo nada pero si me gusto mucho el desayuno gracias
- 2/5
Came back late, the room was 67 degrees and the AC was blowing cold air. Rather than deal with maintenance or moving my stuff to another room, I looked for a blanket in the closet. Nope. Why have blankets in a room while Chicago's winter is 20 degrees out? It's not like people want to be warm or anything. So, I put my winter coat on the bed, spread out like a quilt, and slept under it. Got up in the morning, thermostat was at 66 degrees. Quickest shower I've ever taken, and got the hell out. Two stars for location and price. Have stayed here before, but in summer, and didn't know how far the mighty had fallen. Good luck.
- 5/5
Room was clean with great views on 16th floor of the city. Only complaint: room was a bit dark with less lighting than to my liking. But overall, great hotel.
- 5/5
Clean, friendly, good breakfast
- 3/5
The heating didn't work properly and never reached the desired temperature. The shower mirror defroster was useless; it never managed to defog the mirror. The magnifying mirror wouldn't stay upright; the wall mount was damaged. The light switch in the room didn't work. I believe any room in this condition could be considered substandard, even if everything else was fine, especially considering it's a prestigious hotel. The shampoo and body wash bottles were empty.
- 5/5
I really enjoyed this hotel! Not only did I love the vintage feel, but the food was good, the front desk was kind and the hotel had a good location. Would definitely return.
- 2/5
I was not informed of the parking fee and ceiling paint was falling doing a shower. I have pictures to send, I need an email address to forward the pictures.
- 5/5
Everything was on point stuff, room ,
- 5/5
Check-in was fast, staff was friendly, the room was clean, and the breakfast was good.
- 1/5
He refused to give his name, I’ll describe him, if you go there and encounter him, beware. He is nasty and vile as they come. Tall, black, wears a turban. Dry unfriendly personality. No customer service skills. I extended a weekend an additional week for a friend. While waiting in the lobby for me he asked the nameless person at the desk if he would dispose of an empty soda can for him and placed it on the counter. Nameless instead , picked up the can walked into the lobby and left it on the only chair in there. As he walked off he said, “I hate white people” then proceeded to involve other guests with his version of facts. My friend took this up with the female supervisor on duty. When I arrived my friend was sharing what happened, nameless was at the counter with two customers, shouted, “I heard what you called me, you called me the N word” In shock we tried to defend ourselves and asked for the supervisor/ manager. Neither was available. This Nameless lowlife played the race card on a guest so he could manipulate hotel policy to his advantage. Because we were upset and asking to speak to his higher up, he called the police and LIED to the police in front of us. Then lied to the police again when they arrive. He claimed we used derogatory statements and were causing a disturbance. He cancelled our booking and the police escorted us out. That was his get back. Do not recommend!
- 5/5
The overall stay was great!
- 3/5
Very old hotel
- 4/5
Clean Room
- 4/5
Being an old-school place, of course I expect a certain type of feel, but the cosmetic here’s & there’s in the bathroom we annoying for the price. Having no microwave was inconvenient. The a/c was very noisy, and was the sort of thing maintenance could address. Had to call the desk for a remote that worked. Breakfast buffet could’ve been better, could’ve been worse. “Four poster bed” was a two. And in this day and age a 4-Star hotel really should have a morning coffee cart at minimum. Had to walk a good block & 1/2 to grab actual caffeine for me & the wife. Lame. It’s not a bad place whatsoever, and I’ve definitely seen worse, I was just expecting more is all.
- 5/5
The best hotel, nice breakfast
- 2/5
The housekeeper was almost nonexistent. The bathroom had a plethora of plumbing problems. You was told that you can call for more bed linens and towels but the house phone didn’t work. The internet is slow. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
- 1/5
Staff was great the hotel it’s self was not comforting or clean
- 5/5
Great stay.
- 2/5
Our tv didn’t work, the windows are not well insulated so you can hear all the street noise. Our shower head was broken and the water was only coming out of some of the holes so it was super awkward to shower. When we turned the ceiling fan on it smelled like cigarettes. The restaurant was also not very nice. I ordered an espresso martini and the cocktail separated and looked really weird. My partner ordered an old fashion and the outside of the glass was covered in simple syrup (old fashion should use a sugar cube). I will say the hotel was in a very convenient location.
- 5/5
Nice room. Great location.
- 5/5
Great stay, just was upset there was no full length mirror in our suite
- 5/5
The room was perfect and the attention onn
- 5/5
Very clean room, staff was friendly and made us feel welcomed. This hotel is a great spot within walking distance to everywhere else along Michigan Ave. Breakfast food was excellent during my stay and the dining room felt cozy and relaxed. Will definitely come back here next time.
- 5/5
Great service
- 5/5
Great hotel. Location,and Breakfast
- 5/5
Location was amazing! Room was great! Very clean and comfortable. The hotel breakfast was really good each day!! We went this February so the price was incredible! I highly recommend this hotel. The only downfall was that parking cost 58.00/day.
- 5/5
Breakfast was wonderful and the ladies tending the meal were outstanding! We will be back for sure!
- 5/5
Clean
- 5/5
Beautiful room
- 5/5
Everything was great
- 2/5
Staff wasn’t very friendly. No amenities. You need a market. And restaurant workers to be more friendly. Was not happy.
- 4/5
Bartender=surly Clientele=unique
- 5/5
Clean rooms and excellent staff all in a superior location.
- 3/5
There ‘s No Market the room could have been much warmer. The restaurant staff wasn’t very friendly at all.
- 5/5
Nice for the price
- 5/5
Excellent service
- 4/5
Staff was courteous. Room was adequate.
- 5/5
Room was nice. Great location and great price.
- 4/5
Good breakfast
- 5/5
The room was clean and cozy, and the staff was welcoming and friendly. The breakfast buffet was wonderful. I will be staying here again.
- 5/5
Great location, the room was nice and the breakfast was good. Overall great value for this property
- 2/5
When I checked in I made them aware I would be paying cash for my stay. I was told that I could leave a $75 credit card deposit, but I could use cash in the morning. I expressly stated I only wanted 75 charged to my card. When I got up the next morning I noticed they charged me an additional $150 to my card. I had not authorized them to do this. When I discussed this with the desk, it was as if they were discriminating against me for paying with cash. They tried to spin it to sound like it was somehow my fault. I checked out early and stayed at another hotel. The room was okay, but the furnishings were a bit tired. I would not choose this hotel for future visits to Chicago because of the behavior or the front office staff.
- 5/5
Room was clean. When we requested something from the staff they were very prompt.
- 5/5
This is my first time checking in this hotel and I loved it. Very nice and clean. I just have a bad experience with the front desk staff Tucker. I don’t know what’s his problem but the beginning of my check in. He’s already giving me an attitude. He is so rude. First, I’m like okay maybe he got a bad day. So, I still keep on talking to him nicely. but still his rudeness kept on going. Other than that our stay is Amazing. Will be back next time.
- 2/5
Cheap 1 ply toilet paper.
- 5/5
Clean room, comfortable bed and pillows. Loved the lighted makeup mirror in the bathroom! That’s rare in a hotel!
- 5/5
Excellent property and stellar service. Highly recommended.
- 3/5
Lights did not work in the room, and the woman working the front desk in the morning was extremely rude.
- 5/5
Everything is amazing!
- 2/5
Cold water, no vending machine, no microwave.
- 5/5
Whether for leisure, business or staycation,
- 3/5
I was charged a different rate without explanation. The hotel and room were not worth the rate I was eventually charged.
- 5/5
Excellent services
- 5/5
The staff members were all outstanding!
- 2/5
The bathroom door didn’t work and I had to ask maintenance to come fix it, but they just had us leave the door open for our stay.
- 3/5
The heater in the room would not turn off nor would it turn down. Even after making a complaint they still didn’t fix it. The tv wasn’t working but they fixed that so is guess its a push.
- 5/5
Clean as a whistle
- 5/5
Staff was courteous, room has a great view
- 4/5
Room very clean, it is nice that breakfast is available everyday BUT it is just ok.
- 4/5
Staff were really helpful & friendly. We were given an early check in without hesitation due to the cold weather
- 5/5
Excellent hotel, perfect location. Friendly front desk. Clean and comfortable. Beds were amazing. Pillows need to be replaced
- 4/5
I was originally given a room that hadn’t been touched by house keeping yet, so that was a bit of a surprise to walk into a used room seeing garbage everywhere. Was quickly made right upon a visit back to the front desk.
- 5/5
Awesome
- 5/5
The location was wonderful to get around to all the planned visits around town
- 5/5
Clean room, friendly staff i will be back.
- 4/5
While there were some bumps during my stay the management handled things wonderfully and with a polite attitude
- 5/5
Everything was great!
- 4/5
Nice room - water available at front desk. Friendly staff. We would stay again.
- 5/5
I love the free breakfast included with stay and it's delicious
- 5/5
Communication with the front desk prior to check in was very friendly and helpful. Check in was a breeze. The room was charming, clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The hotel had all the ambience of the Gold Coast in 1928.
- 5/5
Super nice staff, great location, good complimentary breakfast.
- 4/5
Clean hotel and room, friendly and helpful staff, good variety for the free breakfast and nice king size bed that you sink into. The only issues for me being a 6’6” giant were the toilet seat being maybe 1 1/2 feet from the floor and the shower head was at or below the 6’ mark, so it was a little bit of a hassle to use the bathroom.
- 5/5
All-around great!!
- 5/5
Good services!!!When we wanted to buy some water, they brought several bottles to our room for free!
- 5/5
Great view of lakefront.. room was impeccable
- 5/5
Excellent property and outstanding service. Highly recommended.
- 5/5
No Complaints
- 3/5
Our room’s front light flickered a lot, the lamps were hard to turn on and off, we couldn’t use the blow dryer because it either wasn’t working or the plug wouldn’t let it. The breakfast was good. The staff were nice and helpful.
- 4/5
Staff was very courteous and helpful. The room was nice but the bathroom was a little outdated and a little moldy. Other than that the breakfast was decent and the actual sleeping quarters were nice.
- 5/5
This hotel was wonderful. We were able to check in a little early with no extra fees. The rooms were spacious and clean with very comfortable beds. The free breakfast in the morning was very good with many options. It is an easy walking distance to everything. We would stay here again.
- 3/5
Room was clean; room doors need padding as very loud slamming by guests going in and out of their rooms; shower hot water took a long time to reach temperature; towels can be a bit newer
- 5/5
Liked the staff
- 4/5
The staff were really good. Everything was great overall.
- 5/5
Beautiful room staff was amazing checked out this morning after 7 am😊
- 2/5
Been staying at this hotel since 2014 and have noticed the decline in the building. There is a charming old feel but that is starting to be over shadowed by the missing carpet, peeling paint, broken bathroom hooks and such. Great location but not what it used to be.
- 5/5
Yes. It was clean and beautiful! Nice area
- 5/5
The bed was super comfy, the room was clean and location was perfect.
- 5/5
Good breakfast, walking distance to everything I loved it. Cozy beds and really clean
- 5/5
Excellent property and stellar service. Highly recommended.
- 5/5
Ok
- 5/5
convenient and easy access to dining and shopping and attractions
- 5/5
very good for us
- 2/5
It’s a very bad experience and I would never go there .
- 3/5
Bathroom seemed unfinished… no racks for towels or washrooms, no shelves in shower for products, water was lukewarm at best.
- 5/5
Location, breakfast was good, room was nice.
- 3/5
Rooms were nice. The hotel itself is outdated. Breakfast was not good. Hotel service was ok.
- 3/5
The beds were not comfortable and the sheets had holes in them
- 3/5
Overall the stay was OK. Upon check in we were notified Expedia oversold the King size bedrooms and we were left with only one option; a double bedroom instead. Room was nice, beds were comfortable. My only gripe is there was no full length mirrors in the room??
- 5/5
Breakfast was great! The staff at breakfast were the best.
- 5/5
Room was great! Great location! Breakfast was good.
- 4/5
The breakfast is very good!
- 5/5
The staff is always very pleasant and accommodating, the room is clean- could use some new lighting as it was a bit dingey. But overall we love staying at the Whitehall.
- 5/5
Staff amazing check in and out process straight forward and quick
- 4/5
Nice and clean, quiet and comfortable beds. Breakfast could have a little more healthier choices and variety but it was ok. The gym was my favorite, the best of any hotel I have been, complete with dumbbells and weight training machines not just treadmills.
- 5/5
Everything was as it should be during our stay. The room and the bathroom were clean and well-maintained. However, there was one significant issue: the toilet was positioned very low to the ground. It was quite uncomfortable and difficult to use, especially in the mornings, because it felt way too close to the floor. Other than this specific plumbing/design issue, the hotel was fine
- 3/5
Very tired old hotel in every aspect, the rooms, the staff, the restaurant etc - needs much improvement
- 4/5
Room and service was exactly as described.
- 5/5
X
- 5/5
First stay very nice quit awesome king bed wonderful desk tv very great location highly recommend
- 5/5
Nice service, convenient location.
- 5/5
Spacious room, most amenities included that I could think of. Good location. Had a great time.
- 5/5
The staff was friendly and helpful. Great amenities and the location was excellent
- 4/5
The heat conditioner is a little bit noisy
- 4/5
Excellent location with friendly staff and a good breakfast selection
- 5/5
This hotel was a hidden gem in an older building with lots of charm. And one of the best deals I’ve ever gotten. We were upgraded to a King room. It was a large room with a large bathroom and we had a view of Water Tower Place. Unlike most hotels in the city this had all the conveniences and comforts. Great sheets and comfy bed. large nightstands with outlets at both sides of the bed. Large closet. Plenty of room for suitcases. Large counter in bathroom. Tub. Free breakfast. Nice decor and very clean. And a perfect location one block west of Hancock bldg in a great safe area. Loved it!
- 4/5
The staff were not attentive at all
- 5/5
Excellent rooms.
- 5/5
Everything was amazing. We didn’t want to leave. We were greeted by Tucker at the front desk on arrival and he apologized that our original suite was unavailable so he kindly offered me an update to the presidential suite which had two bathrooms, large private bedroom with a king sized bed, a living room, dining room and an outdoor private balcony patio. It was my favorite hotel stay to date.
- 5/5
Breakfast is good, location is excellent, service staff is courteous.
- 2/5
Place sucked
- 5/5
Kind front desk. Clean hotel room.
- 4/5
We enjoyed spending our Holiday at The Whitehall Hotel and we would definitely stay here again anytime we visit Chicago!
- 5/5
Charming hotel, clean, big room, great value
- 4/5
Great location and view from our room.
- 4/5
Hot Shower, Comfortable Bed, Great Location, Good Breakfast, Clean Room, Friendly Staff
- 4/5
The $75 deposit fee was indeed an inconvenience for me, and was not stated anywhere. The stay however was fantastic and consistent.
- 5/5
Staff and amenities
- 5/5
The staff was always cheerful and helpful. Hotel is centrally located and the breakfast was great
- 2/5
Woken up at 🕗 am giving 20 minutes to move to different room sink stopped up, new room bathroom ceiling was cracking from flooding and damaged
- 1/5
I could not check in as I was selected for secondary checking.
- 5/5
Rooms were clean. Easy check in. Front desk was welcoming. Very close to everything. We will book again.
- 5/5
Me gusto mucho es la segunda vez que voy
- 5/5
Hotel stay was excellent, great dining options walkable, easy parking
- 2/5
I was very excited to stay here but did not get what I thought I was getting.
- 5/5
Great location to access downtown, easy parking, nice quality room with comfy bed, good happy hour deals, enjoyed ambiance and food in the restaurant. Will def stay here again
- 4/5
Room was good . Bathroom a little tired and some plug sockets not working. But nothing major . Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast hit and miss . No real layout , plates and cutlery in the middle . Often ran out . No milk, butter or dairy products one day .
- 4/5
Fantastic big bathtub for soaking in!
- 5/5
It was amazing!!!!
- 5/5
Great food!!
- 4/5
Good breakfast
- 5/5
Spacious room, great amenities, great location
- 5/5
Staff were lovely, rooms were clean and comfortable, restaurant and bar also had great service.
- 4/5
The hotel was nice, good breakfast & optimal location.
- 5/5
Great spot!
- 5/5
Ok
- 5/5
Great service and nice property.
- 5/5
Lovely hotel such cute vibes very attentive and helpful amenities. would def not recommend the Sushi place downstairs as they advertise 10% off but code doesn't work and they have zero customer service skills and make you wait 20 minutes after ur order is stated to be ready. Everything else at Whitehall was phenomenal would stay again!!
- 3/5
A hair in our pizza and we paid the bill
- 5/5
Great location. Fantastic room.
- 4/5
The room in general was very clean, with the exception of the bathroom, where I saw several hairs in the toilet and bathtub. Also, when we turned on the heating, it was extremely noisy; we had to turn it off to sleep.
- 5/5
Great location, very clean room!
- 3/5
So the room was fine, a few things happened that made the stay a 3 star. First was what we were told for parking was wrong. Said they had valet access across the street find out that’s not true it was for compact cars was not given a heads up for that. Had to find other parking that cost us $55. The worst part of the stay was that we went downstairs to eat which food was okay but was made extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional was their bartender. We wanted to relax and enjoy ourselves but ruined by the bartender who I was complaining about other employees yelling at the them and cussing out customers who were sitting at the bar. It made it to where my wife was uncomfortable and wanting to leave immediately but had to wait for our food and bill.
- 5/5
Very comfortable quit clean hotel very convenient and the staff was professional and very pleasant I highly recommend this property
- 5/5
Rooms were cleaned. The area around it was the best there is to fully experience Chicago. Overall amazing experience.
- 5/5
great
- 5/5
Clean room, good location, friendly staff
- 5/5
Staff and everything was nice
- 5/5
We had heating problems and service came quickly, ending with a room switch the heat was not working properly.
- 4/5
clean, just a little older, quiet.
- 1/5
For starters the staff was not very friendly or helpful, there was no trash cans readily available anywhere. We were charged for 5 days worth of bed sheets and room service even though they only serviced our room twice in those 5 days. By far nothing was worst then the fact that as a woman I felt so unsafe and uneasy as their was no security cameras anywhere throughout the building. They also did not restock our toilet paper.
- 5/5
Clean, great staff
- 5/5
The staff was great, the room was nice and comfortable. The gym was small but had everything you need to get a good workout in. The best part was the morning breakfast. Was really good and not like other places that serve breakfast. The food was quality and they had a variety of choices.
- 5/5
Great staff
- 3/5
Sink was topped up easily, ice had to be delivered to the room in a container with no lid, minor damage to the bathroom door and area of the carpet, pillows were too soft and flimsy
- 4/5
free breakfaat
- 4/5
Yes
- 2/5
The room and the overall building feel and look old, with no renovations coming soon. Breakfast service ends at 10am, so, in my view, it is early for a hotel in the heart of the city. They don't honor a late check-out as most hotels do; it's sharp at 11 am, and even 10/15 are not allowed. The check-out person is neither nice nor friendly at the front desk. No "hello," no "thank you" from her. You can not beat its location, but the owner should take a closer look at everything.
- 5/5
Wonderful room, great location and friendly helpful staff. The breakfast buffet is really well done.
- 5/5
Clean spacious room
- 4/5
Breakfast was okay, we had a little trouble with the staff intially not asking for our cars plates when we first checked in but another staff memeber was very helpful. My biggest complaint is that the hot water wasnt working very well in our room and the drain in the tub would plug without being held down so i couldnt take a hot bath. I love this hotel's and have stayed here before and never had that issue so i assume it was just that room. My only recommendation would be that the hotel offered microwaves in the rooms as well (We had an issue with doordash and then couldnt warm up our food). But besides that its in a great location.
- 5/5
Comfortable Room, great location and Excellent Staff.
- 4/5
Location was awesome! Breakfast was a great find. The thermostat needed fixing. 64 degrees is great in the summer, but a struggle in winter after being outdoors. Maintenance arrived and fixed the issue within 20 min of the call. Great service!
- 5/5
Clean spacious room right off the magnificent mile.
- 3/5
The room I got was dirty and the light didn't turn on and the air conditioner was noisy.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel stay. Would definitely go back
- 2/5
No hot water
- 3/5
Our room was relatively clean. There was a used flosser on the floor and cobwebs on the ceiling. Our curtains were falling down and we weren’t able to fully close them. The lighting was bad. The outlets were all loose and our charges kept falling out. There are no vending machines but the front desk can bring you a pitcher of water. This hotel is dated and could use a good cleaning and re-vamp. This is a Best Western hotel and that’s exactly what you get. They put lipstick on a pig. The location is 10/10. That’s the only upside to this hotel. We read the reviews and they were all wonderful. It’s sad that what was advertised wasn’t what we received.
- 5/5
the bathroom is so dark
- 5/5
the rooms are super comfortable!
- 5/5
Staff courteous
- 5/5
Spacious room, cute boutique hotel in great location!
- 3/5
Front desk lady was rude, on her phone like she was being interrupted, and unwelcoming. Phone in room didn't work, so couldn't get the benefit of room service. Rooms are dated, overall average. Would not book again due to service at check-in.
- 5/5
Clean room. Cozy Chicago stay
- 4/5

Amazing stay, great location: walking distance from almost all tourist attractions. The staff was very helpful, allowed us early check-in & helped us with extensing our stay at the last moment
- 5/5
Very clean room, nicely decorated. Good water pressure. Courteous staff. Hot breakfast. Excellent location. Great price!

Beautiful room. Friendly staff. All good

Overall, considering the low rate in an excellent location (The Gold Coast) full of 5 star hotels, this is definitely a hotel to consider. Nothing fancy, but worth the stay.
- 4/5
The best things about this hotel are location and friendly staff. Really clentral location. Beds are comfortable. Facilities are dated and a bit run down. Breakfast is included, but not very good. Hot foods were cold. Selection of alternatives to the hot foods are extremely limited and run out early.

There’s been more than 10 days since my check out and I haven’t had my security deposit yet.
- 4/5
I found the staff to be friendly and pleasant, but with so few of them it seemed they couldn’t consistently meet guests’ needs.

Love the style of the infrastructure classic
- 5/5
Nice clean rooms, staff helpful and courteous.
- 5/5
Staff was great and super helpful, the breakfast were actually really good and didn’t feel cheap at all, the rooms were clean and had nice views of the city.
- 4/5
The room was spacious, especially for a city hotel room. It has a great location and comes with complementary breakfast, another thing unusual for a city hotel.
- 4/5
Good breakfast, large clean rooms and friendly staff.
- 4/5
Nice, staff was ok! Rooms were clean a bit old.

Enjoyed staying in downtown Chicago for the first time, the hotel was ok, nothing special. They held our bags for us which was nice. Breakfast was not great, but then again not many buffet breakfasts in the US are.

Great location. Breakfast was great but the room was crowded.
- 2/5
Room was damp feeling the glasses was dirty did not have any bathroom amenities. Constant noise and loud
- 3/5
Room-lighting bad, bathroom door lock somewhat misaligned. Front desk receptionist, female, discourteous attitude.
- 5/5
Great location, price point and a very friendly staff. Rooms were also very comfortable and clean.
- 4/5
air conditioner is loud
- 4/5
The room was clean, great location. I don’t like how the tub drains slower of the extra water when talking a shower.
- 4/5
Nice, clean, quiet place to stay, close to everything. Staff was friendly.
- 4/5
The front desk staff were really nice and acknowledged the guests. (Which to be honest, so many hotels the staff just ignore you for several minutes, even if they make eye contact.) The bad part to the hotel were the fact they had no vending machines, I mostly just wanted a place to buy a bottle of water, or a place to fill up my water bottle. Also, the breakfast was really sad and not at all what I would expect from a hotel offering a breakfast selection. Ive seen super8's with a better breakfast.

- 5/5
Clean room, very comfortable, staff was helpful
- 5/5
Phenomenal for the price ! Very cozy and the breakfast is very good. I needed a microwave I asked front desk if I could use a microwave anywhere in the hotel and they said ‘’ we will be bring you one to your room” . In less than 5 minutes they came to my room and installed a microwave, I didn’t even expect them to do that. I thought I would be bringing my food downstairs to use their microwave but instead they provided great service and 100% would go again. The area is beautiful and the employees are super sweet and there to serve ! I also got a very clean room and it was exactly like the pictures. If you’re looking for an affordable + comfortable + great service hotel (with breakfast included), I cannot recommend it enough.

Clean room and breakfast friendly hotel
- 3/5
One night stay. Bathroom in my room was laid out so weird. Hard for a tall guy to even sit on the toilet. Didn’t love that at all.
- 5/5
Cheryl was really helpful in making sure we could park our oversized van in a safe close parking lot. Much appreciated!
- 5/5
Clean, large room, complementary breakfast! Great location.
- 3/5
Breakfast was good. Hotel and fixtures were rather old. I had to pay hefty fee for parking across the street.
- 5/5
Great location and nice little hotel to stay in. Would def stay again
- 3/5
Breakfast food was cold (even the pancakes and eggs). The nightstand clock did not work and they were never able to fix it. Front desk staff was friendly. The engineer who eventually was able to fix the TV was also friendly.
- 4/5
Staff was courteous and very attentive. Comfortable room.
- 5/5
The front desk staff were friendly and had smiles on during the check in and everytime i walked pass the fromt desk. The room was cozy, and clean. There was a slight musty smell when i walked on the room, but i remedied that and i didn't smell it anymore, so that doesn't change my experience.

It is an old building but the rooms have been updated and are nice And it is a great value

Clean room
- 3/5
The room was in okay condition. The filth was in the details. Slight wallpaper decay, dirty faucets and shower nozzles. There was also a noise in my room that went on for the entire night. If you need a roof over your head it will suffice but I wouldn't want to stay here again.
- 5/5
The room was spotlessly clean. Employees were friendly and respectful.
- 2/5
The front desk staff was not friendly, and the breakfast area felt disorganized, with things seeming to be left out carelessly. However, the room itself was good

Not a negative thing to say. As a former room attendant, I'm not normally impressed by a hotel. The room was clean and spacious. The staff was personable and helpful. The location is definitely in walking distance from the Magnificient Mile. The price was super reasonable for a last minute booking. The Whitehall Hotel has my highest praise. Definitely would book a stay here in a heart in the future!!
- 4/5
Good size rooms, good WiFi and generally pleasant/humorous people on the front desk - sadly though when I checked in and out less so, more abrupt and dismissive, which led to me finding out via an app message that I have bill of nearly $150 of charges for food and drink which was not me (I was at the Maroon 5 gig at the time). I’m hoping this will be resolved asap.
- 4/5
The hotel and room are dated and could use some renovations, but everything was clean, room was comfy and exactly what I needed for a two-night business trip, and the staff was very friendly. Great location as well, easy to get around.

We had a pleasent stay. The included breakfast was first rate.

The room was clean and appropriately appointed. The bed was very comfortable. We had little interaction with the staff. More coffee supplies would have been good, as well as better temperature control.

Hotel is older but kept. Staff are friendly, efficient, abd aware of comings and goings. Always greeting you ss you leave snd return. Rooms and property are clean. Rooms are spacious for a large metro city. I have stayed at this location multiple times. Will always be my first choice.

The room was nice. However, the bathroom was outdated but still functional . All of the staff that I interacted with were very friendly. The breakfast wasn’t good but at that price point and location the fact they offered it was a nice amenity.

Lights flickered and there was no soap. I stayed less than 12 hours there so can't complain about much. Decent older hotel.

Breakfast Experience: The breakfast setup felt disorganized and lacked polish. Staff were not wearing gloves, and the buffet presentation appeared cluttered and inexpensive. A few small changes—such as pre-setting tables with utensils and coffee cups, simplifying the buffet layout, and relocating the garbage bins out of sight—would significantly elevate the dining experience. Facilities: One of the two elevators was out of service with no signage to inform guests. A simple notice would help manage expectations and avoid confusion. Room Quality: It’s clear that some rooms have been renovated while others have not. Offering tiered pricing for updated versus standard rooms could appeal to a wider range of guests and help manage expectations. Overall, the staff’s hospitality was the highlight, but the property could greatly benefit from some modest yet high-impact upgrades.
