Reviews
Guests generally appreciate the hotel's restaurants, particularly the Underground, and its convenient location. The staff is often described as friendly and helpful. However, the hotel's cleanliness and maintenance are frequently criticized, with guests mentioning issues such as dirty bathrooms, worn-out rooms, and malfunctioning amenities. The bed comfort is also a common complaint, with guests describing the beds as too hard or uncomfortable.

Only minor issue was no door hanger to say Make Room Now. Had to ask the room cleaner to at least leave us fresh towels if she couldn’t get back to do the bed.

It was newly remodeled, actually still working on it. Very nice. Easy parking.

Highly recommend. Great outdoor pool. In house restaurant is fantastic

Having a washer and dryer that wasn’t expensive and easy to use was wonderful and the staff was very helpful and kind.

The location was close to medical offices and stores where we could get supplies. The Property was fine and decor and interiors very nice. On the Booking page I upgraded to include breakfasts with our stay and when we got to the property we were informed that since we made our reservations with Booking our breakfasts were not included. Kind of misleading and a bummer since I was in care of a person who had just underwent surgery the day before and had my dementia impaired mother along as well. I tried to make some of the things we would need to be taken care of in advance and it just didn't work out in my favor. I did make do with some quick finagling.

The pool, maybe due to being seasonal and not properly maintained has developed calcium scaling/ crystallization on the bottom of the pool, the bottom of the pool is extremely sharp and my kiddos feet were rubbed raw / bleeding. I informed the front desk and was told they will pass it along but for any refund he was unaware of if there would be. ( I didn’t ask for one) but i feel it could’ve been offered. I hope they are able to fix that issue
- 4/5
No notification of construction activities at the front and rear entrances and inadequate detour signage.

Ask for a couple extra pillows, never got them. Breakfast restaurant was cold, not enough staff to serve, and not enough options on menu, so we left and went somewhere else.

Nice clean room with good lighting. I never order room service but had a super busy day and knew it would be a long time before I could eat, so I odered breakfast and it was delivered quickly, hot and very tasty.

This stay was okay. They were doing renovations, so I can understand that. But it was kind of a mess and there was no warning on the website. Also, the pool closed… again no warning. The room was clean and nice. The staff was amazing. Just not sure the stay was worth it.
- 2/5
Phone charger did not work. No refrigerator or microwave in the room, no place in the shower to put your toiletries. No extra pillows or blanket.
- 4/5
Comfortable room with great location to highway and shops and restaurants. Construction going on but it didn’t affect my stay. They tried to charge me over the agreed price and I had to call to get corrected after I saw it on my card.

If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, do not stay here we switched rooms after our second night because our upstairs neighbor where stomping at 3-8am not allowing us to slee. The front desk was accommodating in switch rooms to the third floor. However, the walls are super thin, so you can hear your neighbors. Our neighbor was up at random hours humming and slamming doors so we essentially did not get any sleep in our 6 day stay . The restaurant downstairs however, is amazing and would 1000% recommend but do not stay here.
- 5/5
Very clean & friendly hotel. Staff was nice & helpful, would recommend the lounge & the food is very tasty. Ryan who was working the bar, very friendly & sassy. Perfect for us, it was so fun. Diffently recommend, and we will be staying there again.
- 5/5
Great staff. Property is under construction we missed the location came at night did not see the sign but it looks like it going to be beautiful once everything is done.
- 3/5
In the process of remodeling, none of the ice machines worked, minimalist furnishings with hardwood floors which seemed okay until the people above us woke up early and started clomping around. The hardwood floors transferred noise from upstairs, carpets would muffle the noise. All the furnishings were fastened to the walls except two chairs and a fold out bed sofa. The roof was spacious and clean but had a harsh uninviting atmosphere to it. Only one drawer in the whole room and it was gigantic at the bottom of the closet.

Room smelled bad, first 2 rooms I tried the thermostat was broken and 1 room was 100 degrees the second was 80.

Rooms and lobby have been remodeled. The pods for coffee maker are an improvement. Would be nice to have a small refrigerator and microwave in the rooms as the old Monarch Hotel provided before being acquired by Hilton.

- 5/5
Clean, updated, very helpful and personable staff.
- 5/5
The only thing we noticed that was not awesome was how cold and drafty the lobby and restaurant were. It did appear that there was still construction or a remodel going on, so that could be why.
- 4/5
Very clean, accommodating. Close to many restaurants, shopping, and more.
- 4/5
Everything was good except floor above me made squeaking noise caused me to awake. I stayed in room 118 first floor.
- 1/5
Loud people laughing and yelling and screaming until 3:30am. We finally had enough! Checked out and drove home! So much for a safe New years Eve!

Upon check-in, I was assigned a room where both the phone and television were not functioning. I notified the front desk, and I was told someone would be sent up to fix the issue. No one ever came. I reported the issue again the following morning and was again told someone would come, but no one did. Eventually, I encountered a maintenance worker in the hallway who checked the room and stated he could not fix the issues. I was then moved to another room; however, the amenities were not comparable to the first. While the television worked, the phone did not, and the thermostat was not functioning properly. The room would not warm beyond 70 degrees, which made the stay uncomfortable. I again informed the front desk and was told someone would be sent and that it would be documented, but once again, there was no follow-through or resolution. When I spoke with the manager about the repeated issues, I was told there was nothing he could do because I booked through Expedia rather than directly through Hilton. That response was disappointing, as the issues were related to the hotel’s maintenance and guest experience, not the booking platform. the lack of communication, accountability, and basic accommodations made this stay f

Regarding the room, I wondered why I could hear road noise and it was cold despite the heat on. I found the window was not closed properly. The bathroom toilet is also so close to the wall, it's almost not functional. The bathroom is so small and cramped, you can't close or open the door easily. Just checked in. I'm in newly renovated section. The construction was not inspected. You can push the door open, anyone can. It won't lock. The door handle doesn't line up to lock. I've traveled from Pennsylvania (about a 20 hour day) and can't go to bed because it's not safe and my door doesn't close! Waiting on maintenance, no other similar rooms are available. I was offered an accessible room and when i said i need some compensation for that, she offered me a discount coupon for the restaurant downstairs. Wow! Poor customer service. Now it's 10 p.m. and they are sawing and sanding trying to fix the door. People are trying to sleep. Finally got it where it will close but can't use the deadbolt. They don't seem to care. I will never stay here again and recommend others find another hotel instead.
- 4/5
Every aspect was good. Parts of the property were under construction however it was not disruptive to the experience. The breakfast menu was apparently not all available due to some inventory issues. Front desk was informative and organized.

This is the old Monarch Hotel and has been updated. It is a great improvement. De Fuego restaurant is wonderful.

2. We checked in on a Friday afternoon and everything was fine until Monday morning at 8am when the construction started right out side of our room. The were drilling and hammering on the outside wall right outside our room. I was trying to get some work done, this is why we checked out early. We were not told upon check in that there would be construction starting early on Monday morning. They should have never booked people into this room, very poor management to overlook this. 3. When checking out we asked to speak to a manager, the front desk said they were not available but would call us in 5 mins this was at 9am ... at 1130 we finally had to call back, again they said they would call right back .. again no call at 1pm.. so we called again and refused to be told we would get a call back, they finally put us thru to the manager who was indifferent to the situation. 4. Went to the Courtyard Marriot which is right across the street which was a wonderful hotel.
- 2/5
The heat wasn't working right. The thermostat was set to 72 and the air conditioner was on when we entered the room. When we raised it up to 78 it started heating the room and then would switch to cooling and freeze the room. We asked to have it looked at while we were out. They did and when we came back the thermostat was set to 85 and the room was really warm! Three days there and turning the unit on and off to keep the room warm was a pain. Especially in the middle of the night. How about another room if they couldn't fix the problem?
- 4/5
The staff was outstanding and check-in was quick and friendly. The room was nice but noise was a problem, People on the floor above sounded like a herd of elephants . this is the second time I have stayed at this location and outside noise had been an issue each time.
- 4/5
Fitness center on site was closed and I wish they show that on the third party booking site. We accidentally brought our emotional support dog without knowing it’s not pet allowed. We were instructed that we are not allowed to walk our dog in the building and had to stay in the dog carrier in a public area which we did but we saw someone else’s walking around in the hotel and made us questioned. Staff was extremely nice and friendly. We’d give them five stars!
- 3/5
Building was under construction.
- 4/5
Under remodel will be nice. Their new heating system is messed up
- 4/5
With the hotel under renovations, it was still ok to stay in. I had to stay for 8 nights due to medical reasons, and they totally accommodated me with my request to be put on the top floor. Housekeeping, front desk, and any other staff I encountered were very friendly.
- 4/5
Right now it is under so much construction and it looks like it’s going to be very beautiful. However, the rooms smelled like fresh paint or very new plastic, so much so that I couldn’t sleep and was congested.. my son stay the night with me one night and he couldn’t even breathe. The scent was so strong.
- 4/5
on site restaurant was a bit disappointing
- 4/5
Clean room, comfortable pillows and bed. Location is great too.
- 3/5
This property has changed ownership and we were not notified. The heater was blowing cold all the time even with heat turned to 78. I paid in advance for two nights when I booked with you and then they charged me again for the room after I went home. Have not gotten a refund yet as they stated I would. Property is now Hilton Garden Inn. Staff didn’t seem to be very efficient. Room was not serviced after the first night. No clean towels or coffee restocked. No breakfast available.
- 2/5
A lot of construction. When I was given my room, I went up to my room and found out there was someone already in that room, had to go back to get a different room. This experience was very terrible and felt very unsafe. Also, when we got our new room, the room would not lock. I waited a long time at check in for someone to arrive and attend us. Overall it was not a good experience
- 2/5
Stayed for a weekend trip here and was not impressed by any means. It’s under construction at the moment in the lobby, but the room itself had an area of the tv stand that was falling apart. Beds were very uncomfortable, super FIRM and had coil springs that dig into your back all night. In the evening/night time it’s almost impossible to find staff. They turned our keys off early as well, even though we booked two nights. It was shut off after one night, which was a big inconvenience. We were also surprised that someone charged room service to our room that we did not order. Thankfully the charge was removed, but that’s concerning they can do that from the hotel restaurant. Property was very noisy at all hours of the day/night. Between the sound of the freeway and the noisy guests next door or in the hallway, sleep was hard to come by. Do not recommend staying here, especially with small children. Lots of drinking from the hotel restaurant on the weekends.
- 5/5
The hotel is doing a remodel during my stay. Contractors and the hotel did an excellent job of containing construction. The front desk and housekeeping were so helpful with requests. My room was newly remodeled and was beautiful. The food at the restaurant, de Fuego Grille was phenomenal.
- 5/5
Clean rooms, nice amenities- soap, hair care and lotion. Comfy beds, comfy sheets and really wonderful black out blinds.
- 4/5
Hotel is in the middle of a remodel to a Hilton Gardens. Adjoining room the guest were very loud .
- 4/5
Tv needs directions left on the room
- 5/5
The property is currently under renovation, and therefore access to some amenities was not available. I regard this as a minor inconvenience for my stay, as almost all of the things I require were available and in top-notch condition.
- 2/5
I have stayed here in the past and was very dissapointed in it's current state of affairs.
- 1/5
Under construction, no front desk, seperate entrances, broken door latch so i could fully close the door!!
- 3/5
The heat/air conditioning was very hard to regulate. The air flow was very high and in my face all night until I increased temperature; then I had to lower temp again. Never got it comfortable.
- 1/5
*Inconvenient to walk to your hotel room. *Rooms are clean and average *Beds are fine. Nothing to write home about *Hotel room doors have a 1 inch gap from the floor *Staff was friendly *Close to Mall and many dinning options on site *Outdoor pool I personally am not going to stay here again but for a one night stop its clean
- 4/5
The internet connection is not good.
- 3/5
My room was modern and beautiful- already remodeled. The rest of property was older and in construction, but who spends time hanging out. Hallways? Great price during G renovation, and very nice, helpful staff.
- 2/5
There was a lot of noise all night long
- 5/5
I like that rooms were clean n renovated. Did not like going back downstairs to get Wjfi password. No brochure about hotel where pw could be written. Like that it had a restaurant.
- 1/5
I immediately took a photo of it, trapped it under a cup, and the called the front desk. They sent someone who offered to move me to a different room. When I said no, that I would be going to a different hotel, and wanted a refund, she scooped up the roach from under the cup and disappeared. I went to the front desk when she didnt come back and they tried to play dumb. 'What roach?' I showed them the photo and demanded a refund. They reluctantly tole me I could only get a refund from hotels.com so I left and contacted customer service from a new hotel.
- 4/5
The cleaning people came in our room without knock thinking we weren't there to look for bleach that they thought was left in there which was a little startling. There was no ice bucket, no cups, and we had to ask for complimentary water. During a heat wave, this was no great. Room was clean and comfy. Our server at restaurant served us one drink and went on break without telling us. We ended up going to bar to get another drink and to pay.

- 2/5
This place is under major renovations and should not be operational until complete
- 3/5
I would have loved to have known that there is major renovation taking place that impacts the condition of the hotel. I'm would not and should not have paid the amount for the reservation with this much renovation. I'm shocked the property can even be open with emergency exit staircases closed/blocked during construction. Hopefully this outdated hotel gets their renovation done quickly. Will not book here again.
- 4/5
The hotel is undergoing a major renovation. We stayed in a recently refurbished room. The bed was comfortable, but the bedding consisted of a single sheet and a single thin blanket. The room did not contain any additional blankets. The thermostat was set to 59 degrees when we arrived. The room was very cold. I was unable to get the room to stay at a comfortable temperature. Either too hot or too cold. Perhaps the thermostat needs adjusting. A spare blanket would have made it much more comfortable. The major issue for me was the noise from adjoining rooms. We could hear whatever was going on in the bathroom next door, at all hours. The sound of the TV in the next room was loud also very late at night. Anyone walking in the room above us was loud also. Perhaps this should have been a higher priority when the new rooms were designed and constructed.

The Monarch has sold out to Hilton. The charm of the old Monarch is gone and it’s become a modern IKEA room. They really missed the boat by not creating suites with a larger bathroom. Also install soundproof windows & doors. I love the location but had bad WiFi and it was so noisy during this construction phase. It’s not ready for reopening yet unless you’re going to charge a lot cheaper rate.
- 5/5
Yes this place under construction, but still great place. Awesome lounge and food. Easy on and off freeway.
- 4/5
For the place being under construction, it was quiet.
- 5/5
Very nice staff, restaurant, bar, pool , very respectful staff
- 2/5
Place was under construction and not advertised as so. If I’d known this I would have stayed somewhere else. I payed way too much for a place under construction… There was no one at front desk when first arriving. I had to go find someone to go find another person. Eventually they arrived at the front desk after some time. Staff seemed to not care too much about that. Room was good and clean. Pool area was decent. Restaurant looked nice but I didn’t eat there.
- 5/5
Great staff!
- 3/5
Pretty average accomadations for $175/night, I thought. Room was fine and comfortable, but nothing special. Plus there was construction going on. Knowing what I know now, I'd have stayed at the Quality inn or something that is pretty much the same, but way less cost

Property is in ownership transition and remodeling so things were missing in the room. Also, Internet wasn’t working most of the time. Tv remote didn’t work. However location was ideal to our needs

Very clean hotel. Would definitely stay here again
- 2/5
Our room was clean & had a comfortable lay-out. Air conditioning worked well. Renovations at the hotel made the area a little unappealing, garbage in the parking lot. Unfortunately, we were without water from at least 11pm-5:30am. When I notified the front desk we had none at 11pm, I was told they were “doing maintenance & water would be turned back on by 2AM.” This was the first time we were notified we would be without water. Throughout the night, the “maintenance” included the faucets/water pipes squealing in a high pitched noise. Not exactly easy to sleep through. My husband had received the first treatment for stage 4 cancer earlier in the day & had a rough night due to intense side effects & “hotel maintenance.” He had a difficult time sleeping anyway & was awoken by the squealing if he did fall asleep. He was not able to get drinks of water or take a warm shower to try to relieve intense back pain from treatment. Finally, after he got a warm shower at 6am & being up most of the night, we laid back down to get some sleep to have house-keeping knock on our door at 8:30am, waking us up again. Very frustrating night at the Monarch hotel & very poor service that made a very rough night even more difficult.
- 2/5
Did not like the property for the cost of the hotel. I was not inform that it was under construction. Did not have the room ready for 4 adults. House keeping will not complete their job. Kept asking for towels and toilet paper had to purchase water.

Clean property in the middle of a remodel. Great customer service and nice room amenities. Love the shampoo/conditioner/body wash in the shower. Also helpful having the hand wash and lotion dispensers in the sink area.
- 5/5
The hotel is under complete renovation but we had one of the new rooms and it was great!! Super clean and comfortable. Location was great, wifi was strong, and the shower was one of the best I've seen. So spacious! I felt very safe in the area too!
- 5/5
We were able to get booked with Monarch quickly and last-minute after our Air B and B fell through for a long stat. Overall, the staff was kind and accommodating. They were also under renovation and did a great job adjusting so that wasn't an issue for guests.
- 5/5
New rooms. Restaurant is one of my to 5 in Portland metro area.
- 3/5
Too close to the freeway, need soundproof windows. Need more towels in the hotels was requesting extra towels in a room for 4 people. Only 2 was set up and at 11pm they were out already.

This is the second hotel I booked this month from this site, both said free breakfast, which it wasn’t true. I hope hotel.com can fix this issue. Very disappointed.
- 5/5
Clean great room. Smells good also. The area is safe. Ample parking space and well lit.
- 2/5
Overall the property was in a great location. However our room was not vacuum, trash was left in the garage cans, there was leftover food in the fridge that smelled, and our bathroom sink didn’t drain.
- 5/5
Like the room. It was big and bed was excellent like sleeping on a cloud. Bathroom was clean. Love the blinds too. Overall, I would stay again once the renovation is complete, it should be a lot nicer.

A rather inconvenient, not taking ownership-customer service care. Perhaps, your company can take a better approach and make things right.
- 5/5
The room was newly renovated and beautiful! The amenities were nice, beds were comfortable and the room was spacious. Check-in was a breeze and the front desk agent was very sweet!
- 3/5
We were told they are in the process of becoming a Hilton Garden Inn and there is MIUCH work that needs to be done for that to happen. This hotel is in much need of remodeling. The carpet is lumpy everywhere. My husband to call the front desk to find out how to get the shower on. It had to practically yanked on. The freezer in the room refrigerator did not work. the cleaning ladies did the bare minimum during our stay. Coffee had been splatter in the bath sink and they did not even wipe it out. Coffee trash was not picked up on the desk. This hotel was not worth the cost per night.
- 3/5
Room did not have internet connection no towels the television did not work I let the front desk know, they said they will get someone to check and never did They did not clean the room any day The construction workers made too much noise in the morning I called for towels never came to drop off only one towels for me and my two girls and the television said no service and the internet never worked Expected more inky good thing was the pool
- 5/5
Well done
- 5/5
We left a scary spider infested air bnb in the middle of the night (12:30am) and came to this hotel in desperation. It was exactly what we needed. Perfectly clean, quiet, great shower with body wash/hair products included. Comfortable bedding and a truly GREAT window shade. It blocked sunlight completely and allowed us to sleep in after a stressful night.
- 4/5
We have stayed here several times mostly because they have a pool. The location is good and if it’s hot we love having the pool.
- 2/5
This property is transitioning to a Hilton property, Upon check in, our room had a room service tray of dirty dishes outside our room. It was there the next morning still sitting in the floor, During the night, 4:00am, a loud beeping was coming from the outside hallway which turned out to be the fire sprinklers leaking, soaking the carpet. It kept us up the rest of the night. We will not be returning to this property.
- 2/5
The property has a restaurant. Desk staff is very friendly. The rooms are tiny and have a poor layout. We had no phone in our room. Housekeeping never showed up one day. They only replace some of the essentials. All in all, I cannot recommend it.
- 5/5
It was good most definitely will be back.
- 5/5
Safe and quiet.
- 4/5
New refurbished—everything fresh. No stale odors. No air freshener coverups. Clean air. Beautiful courtyard & pool. Quiet. Convenient location. Overall excellent.
- 4/5
Some remodeling going on. We were moved to a nice new room after two nights.
- 2/5
I stayed four nights, and only encountered two professional adults on staff the entire stay. One was Marco the housekeeping manager who was clearly good at his job and engaged. The other appeared to be a manager of sorts who made a slight effort to say “welcome back” as I walked in one afternoon. Otherwise the place seemed staffed by 20-somethings who looked surprised to find anyone speaking to them about, you know, hotel stuff.
- 5/5
NIce staff. Clean
- 4/5
Although the property is currently under construction, I had a newly remodeled room. It was very nice.
- 4/5
Convenient for my work
- 5/5
I like the location. Close to shopping and dining and freeway. Definitely closing the speakeasy was a bummer.
- 5/5
This was close to the hospital which is why we chose it. The hallways and elevator had a strong odor. Wasnt a terrible one but it was very overwhelming at times. Almost like someone with really strong cologne had walked through.
- 4/5
Safety area but noisy from freeway
- 2/5
This property is currently going a renovation, but the staff seems to be unhappy with current conditions and their interactions reflected this. Limited food options, as well as the general condition of the room was profoundly dated.
- 5/5
Nice place
- 5/5
I don’t like that they charge $10.00 a day for parking.
- 5/5
Parking lot is filled with remodel containers and equipment. Inside was neat and clean. Thank you.
- 1/5
The bed was made with dirty bloody bed sheets. Was given a different room and woke up with ants crawling on me and ants in our food. Noisy air-conditioning. The toilet was not secured to the floor and freely moved when sitting down or getting up from the toilet. Some staff were nice and some just rude. Will never go there again.
- 1/5
The hotel is old and outdated and under construction. If I knew that I wouldn't have booked. Room was dirty and dark. Staff were rude. Asked three times to have room made up and it never happened. Would never recommend this property

I was put in a room that was in an awkward spot and was woken up at 645 to construction on the other side of the wall for like 3 hours

The Monarch is currently undergoing renovations to bring decor up to date. An employee said they hope to convert to Hilton Garden Inn by end of Summer 2025.

I was able to easily park my truck and trailer here. The rooms were beautiful, and I had a view of the pretty water feature from my room. The only caveat was having to take my food to the lobby to heat up, but I would definitely stay here again!

Honestly I don't know how the facility was. I had a family emergency and understood I would be charged the 1st night, but they wouldn't refund me for my other nights even though I notified them the day of checkin that I was cancelling. Very very unhappy with how they conducted business and treated me when I was already going through enough as it was

Have stayed here a number of times. Highly recommended

Room was nice didn’t get a chance to try restaurant or bar. But I’m also still waiting to understand why I was charged $60 when I booked through Expedia and have a charge from monarch on my statement. But overall decent price and stay!

The staff was friendly. I’m pretty sure people live full time at this hotel. The positive is it’s close to freeway and shopping.

We stayed for our daughter cheer competition, we got there exhausted, when I arrived I was told my room was double booked and asked if one king bed would work, I let them know it wouldn’t, it proceeded to take over 30 min, fine. Get to the room, try to take a shower, soaking wet towels folded ??? Call and ask for dry towels and was told I can come get them, fine, new ones ,yellow stains….. fine. We go buy towels

I Would definitely stay there again. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because the renovations being conducted took away from the presentation.

I was just in For a couple of days to help family. Great location! Great restaurant! Rooms are tired and dated, but there are plans to remodel.

Hotel is under renovation so I believe it’ll only improve

Important things were clean, unimportant things were not, still better than most
