Reviews
The hotel received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with guests praising the cleanliness, comfort, and beautiful location. The staff's friendliness and excellent customer service were also frequently mentioned. However, a few guests expressed disappointment with the restaurant's quality and limited hours, as well as the lack of certain amenities in the rooms.
- Beautiful and clean property with a great location
- Exceptional customer service from friendly staff
- Restaurant quality and hours were disappointing for some
- Lack of certain amenities in the rooms
- 5/5
Exceptionally clean, friendly staff, and top notch amenities. It doesn’t get any better than this place in Clemson.
- 5/5
This was such a great hotel! The staff were so nice and friendly, the hotel and room were clean and comfy. I would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
- 5/5
Staff attentive. Quiet atmosphere. Nice pool and view of lake and golf course
- 5/5
Ery nice and quiet. Comfy beds. Fitness center is small. Would come back and stay here again.
- 5/5
Great stay. Beautiful campus.
- 5/5
Exceeded all my expectations
- 4/5
My only recommendation is to replace some of the worn out chairs in the rooms. Ours was tattered fake leather, and not a fair representation for the rest of the hotel.
- 3/5
Decent. Rooms could use a refresh but clean. The hotel was pretty empty when we went but they put us in a room right near the lobby. There were people hanging out in there at night and it was incredibly loud.
- 5/5
Excellent
- 5/5
Wry convenient patio room/door for pets. Beautiful hotel
- 5/5
Pretty view of the lake- on the edge of campus. Make sure to join the parent club if you are a Clemson Parent, you can get a free upgrade.
- 4/5
Cannot beat the location and the staff. Rooms are ready for a refresh but still clean and comfortable.
- 5/5
Lovely patio Helpful and friendly staff
- 4/5
Yes
- 3/5
Have a big difference from its past. The view is bad, seems no bar for evening meeting.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, room clean, great coffee at front desk! Beautiful views of golf course and lake.
- 5/5
Beautiful view on the lake/golf course. Good hospitality and nice restaurant on site. Reasonably priced. Would definitely go back.
- 5/5
Always an Amazing stay. No toilet paper in room though.
- 3/5
Room smelt really musty and you had to get to $20 for room service so a cup of tea was not possible. Room decor was super dated. Very average.
- 5/5
Suite was amazing. Large enough for a family of 6.
- 5/5
Wonderful site with lake and outdoor dining options
- 5/5
Room was clean and atmosphere was very nice. My only complaint was that the parking lot had raised sensors in every parking space that wasn’t even active so not sure why they are there. I tripped over one and I went flying onto the pavement and got scraped up. I was not happy. It’s a huge tripping hazard.
- 5/5
Work was a bit difficult. It would be great if there was a dedicated work area even in the next door conference center. Perhaps desks with plug in for computer. The area near the coffee bar is perfect but music was playing the whole time I was there. This is not conducive to office work.
- 3/5
This seems to be one of the only hotels in clemson near the school. We came here to tour the school and stay a night. I was excited to use the pool and relax a bit as well. Unfortunately when we checked in - the young gentleman at the front desk basically had his airpods in and gave us our keys with no other words. I expected a bit more welcome and friendliness from the only hotel worker. The pool was barely opened as it was still a bit cooler but there were no towels available and nobody to help find any. The pool was freezing and the hot tub dirty. I had to go back to the front desk several times for wifi information, towels, and basic understanding of where things were. Just not what I had hoped for coming from a well known resort. Unfortunate as its situated in a beautiful area and I had hoped for a nice stay. Also, the bathroom was a bit dirty, porch out back very dirty with spider webs on the furniture and the room a bit dated. Could use some TLC for sure.
- 4/5
Lovely place to stay right on the lake.
- 3/5
Convenient to visitor center and convention center only.
- 4/5
Room was nice but a bit dated. Loved the suite. Was not walkable to the downtown area
- 5/5
Love this place. We stay here every time we come to the area.
- 3/5
Everything was fine except we selected to stay here 2 nights based on the fact that they had a pool and it was advertised on their site as now open. We got there and were told it would not be open for a few more weeks. My kids were really disappointed. We would have picked a different place to stay had we known. Oh and they have a parking lot light that flashes all night long and is annoying in the room at night even with the curtains drawn.
- 3/5
Very basic property amenities
- 5/5
.
- 5/5
great locations, clean, nice staff. Everything you need for a short stay while visiting your student.
- 5/5
The hotel was perfect for a Clemson visit. Close to campus and met all of our needs.
- 5/5
Always a great stop on our travels! Enjoy the walking space golf and restaurants on site!
- 3/5
Linens were scratchy and mold growing in showers
- 5/5
Front desk staff could smile more but was professional and kind.
- 5/5
There was no complimentary breakfast. It has an on-site Starbucks.

- 5/5
Excellent stay
- 5/5
Everything was wonderful. Hope to be back many more times
- 4/5
Excellent facilities. The views are incredible. This was my third stay - I'll definitely return. GO TIGERS!
- 3/5
The hotel is decent. Lighting in the rooms is awful- bright white light that feels more like a warehouse than a hotel. Easy fix.
- 5/5
Great!
- 3/5
In lobby. Just ask for a cup at the desk.
- 5/5
Aside from the cleanliness and great amenities the staff is not only very kind they are extremely honest. My son left his iPad there and they called to notify us to see how they could return it to us. So appreciative of that
- 2/5
I didn't like anything, the staff was ridiculous, I booked two queen beds and when I arrived at the hotel they told me they weren't available! In short, just disappointment.
- 5/5
Room was spotless and front desk staff super friendly and helpful
- 3/5
Room was clean. Staff friendly. Furniture old and worn. Walls paper thin. I woke up to housekeeping, water running from other rooms and drills. I would not stay again.
- 5/5
Room was very clean and comfortable. Had a fabulous stay; ate dinner at the hotel super convenient to the University and our tour that was taking place the next morning. 10/10!!
- 3/5
Trash left in room and fridge. Very loud and noisy. Doors slamming and yelling at 1 am.
- 5/5
Room clean and spacious and fun clemson vibe, close to campus and beautiful lake side setting, only downside is walls are very thin!
- 4/5
Hotel and room were very clean, staff was courteous, grounds were beautiful. Overall highly recommend and will stay there again.
- 5/5
Everything was very nice
- 5/5
Clean rooms, location and restaurant
- 5/5
Great staff, very clean.
- 5/5
P place to stay! Love it
- 3/5
The room was in good condition and the staff was nice but there was no water in the room. Two bottles of water should be complimentary per day or at least available for purchase in the lobby. We were dying of thirst!
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, great space in rooms, close to campus yet feels like a secluded resort with the and golf course.
- 5/5
The location was convenient, the room was clean and comfortable. We were only there for a quick night but would definitely book again when returning to the area!
- 5/5
The room was very clean, as was the entire property. Very well maintained overall. It was chilly but the beautiful pool area was open which included the hot tin overlooking the lake.
- 4/5
Perfect location for Clemson activities . Attended ring ceremony
- 5/5
Great property within walking distance to Clemson for activities. Nice walking paths. Beautiful lake and golf course views!
- 5/5
Great place to stay!
- 5/5
They seem a little short on outlets/charging stations, but we would definitely stay here again and recommend this location!!!!
- 5/5
Love the Clemson decor! Our stay was wonderful and everything was clean and the staff were helpful. Beautiful property and great location.
- 5/5
I was was absolutely impressed/ amazed the cleanliness and courtesy of the staff on the Walker course at Clemson. The views are impeccable, very reasonable rate as well would stay every time
- 5/5
Very Satisfied, the facility is very clean, very practical the property inside the university and close to go shopping.💯
- 3/5
While not super close to on-campus activities, it’s a lovely location with beautiful views. The pool looks like a great spot for summer. However, the hotel itself is quite dated inside. The beds are uncomfortable and in need of an upgrade, but the biggest problem was how thin the walls were. Even minor sounds from adjacent rooms like coughs, phone conversations, or wake up alarms sounded like they were in our bed. Hall and lobby noise also kept us awake. We also asked front desk staff for recommendations and guidance a couple times during our stay and they were either not knowledgeable about the area or just unhelpful, as they never seemed to have any ideas or answers.
- 5/5
Great place. Clean and staff helpful and friendly.
- 3/5
Friendly staff and clean facility. Lovely grounds and family friendly.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel overall and our room and bathroom were spotless. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom had a large countertop, and the price was reasonable.
- 5/5
Beautiful property. Watched the sunset over the lake from our room. Amazing staff and service. Interior slightly outdated but very clean. Will come again for sure!
- 5/5
Love this location! Accessible, beautiful grounds, fabulous staff!
- 5/5
Great place to stay while visiting Clemson
- 5/5
Amazing place to stay.
- 5/5
Beautiful grounds, great amenities, convenient food options with Starbucks onsite, quiet area and great staff!
- 5/5
A wonderful place to stay when visiting Clemson!
- 5/5
They are the most helpful, kind people. They have been exceptionally accommodating above and beyond expectations. We love this hotel. It’s meticulously maintained and most of all has the most professional, sweet staff we ever encountered. Southern hospitality at its finest. Highly recommend
- 5/5
Really nice atmosphere and the scenery was amazing. It's also really close to campus.
- 1/5
Rooms are furnished with very old decor, harsh, bright white lighting, old bathrooms, old carpeting, and those old flowered mattresses from the 90s that you can see through the thin sheets. Oh, and when I arrived around 11:00 at night, I walked into the lobby to an empty desk. I patiently waited for about 15 mins until another group came in and started waiting. I then called the phone number and the front desk phone started ringing. That seemed to make enough noise to call the employee to the desk. I get that it’s sometimes necessary to step away from the desk, but if you’re going to do it, then you either need to only be away for a few mins at a time, or have a bell or camera or something to alert you that guests are waiting.
- 5/5
Hotel and grounds were beautiful. Staff was very accommodating.
- 3/5
Property is great proximity to school. I had requested a rollaway bed weeks in advance and was told it would be setup in the room upon arrival, which it wasn’t. And they were all gone, so we had to use an air mattress with no sheet.
- 5/5
I stay here as much as possible. Great hotel and property and great staff. Love Sole on the Green too!
- 5/5
Loved it, great location, timeless, and nice amenities.
- 5/5
Clean, beautiful setting on lake. Great people!
- 5/5
Very nice spacious room and a great value for the rate compared to other places in the area.
- 5/5
The grounds are beautiful and the hotel is right on campus which I enjoyed and was the purpose of my visit. The room was a little tired but I’m being picky. It was clean and quiet and did the job. I had a great nights sleep and the staff were welcoming. Would stay again.
- 5/5
Competent and cordial staff. Desk Staff were always smiling and eager to assist. Beautiful campus with views of the lake and surrounding golf course. Pool area was very clean with plenty of umbrellas, clean towels and seating. On-site restaurant was amazing with great food, reasonable prices and a varied menu suitable for kids and adults. Would've loved to have explored the campus more but it was 6 million degrees outside for the duration of our stay (late July). My only complaint (albeit a small one) was that the room refrigerator is very small with no freezer. They made up for it with a huge ice machine on our floor, though. Cleaners were cordial and very friendly. It was refreshing that every staff member that we interacted with over a 3-night stay really seemed to enjoy working there. Thank you all for a wonderful experience and I look forward to staying with you again!
- 5/5
Terrific Place to stay
- 5/5
Loved the room and the property itself. Beautiful walking path overlooking the water. Highly recommend this hotel.
- 3/5
All in all a nice facility. The premier double queen suite appeared to not have been fully cleaned. The pull out sofa bed was covered in crumbs with a left behind comb. All the shampoos etc were half full like they had already been used. The water from the kitchen sink was brown with mold when first ran. The location and the staff are wonderful. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. The rooms could use an update .
- 5/5
Charming, clean, and convenient for our campus tour!
- 5/5
Everything was excellent. Thanks
- 5/5
Great pool, beautiful grounds, clean room.
- 5/5
Great stay!
- 5/5
Everything was perfect with this property. It is a clean and well-kept property and is staffed by the nicest people. It was a fantastic stay from beginning to end.
- 5/5
Clean, friendly. Great location for Clemson visit. Pool area was great!
- 5/5
Perfect location! Beautiful grounds. Wish we had been able to stay longer to enjoy it!
- 5/5
Clean
- 5/5
Very nice stay. Room was very clean and hotel itself was nice and well kept. Staff was super friendly.
- 4/5
Great location, staff friendly and helpful. Rooms could use some updates, but overall had a very good stay.
- 5/5
Proximity to botanical garden. Walkable and pet friendly.
- 2/5
The grounds and amenities are nice but the room was disappointing. It was extremely damp, the walls were sweating. There was urine on the bathroom wall. The sink on the left side had the filthiest brown water coming from faucet. The sheets were scratchy. The beds were very narrow (definitely not queen sized) and awkwardly tall. The fridge was difficult to open and close because the door would catch on lip of the plastic drip tray it was sitting on. The couch was so filthy it belongs in a dumpster, and the furniture is super outdated. The location is beautiful but I would not stay in this hotel again because it is in desperate need of extensive renovation.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our last minute trip with our son. Everything was wonderful.
- 5/5
A wonderful place to stay in Clemson. They have such a friendly staff and have the benefit of a cafe and restaurant at the Madren Center.
- 4/5
Beautiful property with golf course, lake and large outdoor pool views. Nice first floor patios to make bringing dogs convenient. Second stay and would continue to stay here.
- 5/5
Outstanding staff and location
- 5/5
Booked last minute, very welcoming staff, definitely felt like a home away from away and very close to campus
- 4/5
the lake view, as well as the pool area are beautiful.
- 4/5
Unfortunately, we were given the wrong information about the pool hours when we checked in which led to a disappointing first day and there were some noisy guests our second night but otherwise, we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is well appointed and convenient.
- 5/5
Great place. Had a great time. Will go back!
- 5/5
One of the absolute best places we have ever stayed!
- 2/5
coffee machine in lobby broken, no wifi, pool was closed, no shampoo in room and no water in room or available in lobby.
- 3/5
We picked the property for the pool and it was closed.
- 5/5
Great location for visiting our son
- 5/5
Our experience with the hotel was excellent. The atmosphere in the entire facility was welcoming, staff was friendly and the waiter for our Sunday brunch very efficient. We managed to leave clothing in one of the drawers in our room only to discover the problem when we arrived home. A phone call to the receptionist at front desk solved the problem and the items are currently enroute to our home in Wisconsin. Thank you for everything.
- 5/5
The rooms are spacious, clean, and well-appointed, with comfortable beds and the most beautiful views of the lake. The staff is friendly and pleasant. Whether you’re visiting for a Clemson game, a conference, or just a getaway, the James F. Martin Inn is a fantastic choice. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to return!
- 5/5
Great service and very convenient to campus
- 5/5
Went to visit Clemson University with my son. Great location, great hotel!
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay!
- 5/5
Property was great.
- 5/5
Clean and nice accommodations.
- 5/5
Nice place. Friendly staff.
- 5/5
Very pleasant stay. Accommodations were very clean and comfortable. Kind, helpful staff. Great location. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
The room was very clean and all the amenities were updated and nice.
- 5/5
Clean Excellent staff
- 5/5
Absolutely loved our stay...wonderful site and staff!
- 5/5
Clean!
- 5/5
The James F Martin is our favorite Clemson hotel. We always stay here. The staff is amazing and the rooms the spacious and comfortable. The location and amenities are great and we always feel welcome.
- 5/5
Beautiful property on the lake
- 5/5
Solid
- 5/5
Location. Beautiful area. Hopefully they don’t develop much more around there. God’s country.
- 5/5
Best place to stay when visiting Clemson.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel. Currently a lot of construction going on just outside.
- 5/5
This is the quintessential property to stay at if you want to experience Clemson University, especially for the first time. The property is a beautiful resort on a lake, surrounded by the Clemson University golf course. I stayed there to visit my daughter who is a student at the university and the accommodations are first rate. When the football team is at an away game, the Browns are very quiet this time of year. The hotel is clean and the rooms work very well. This is my second stay here and I would stay again.
- 4/5
The door jamb was not snug around the door so light from the hallway shown in through all around the door. It was difficult to sleep facing toward the door.
- 5/5
Beautiful setting on the lake/golf course/pool. Staff was very friendly.
- 5/5
Very convenient location and customer is always excellent .
- 5/5
Very clean and quiet.
- 5/5
Great stay
- 5/5
The walls are too thin. We heard the family in the room next to us all night. They woke us up a few times. People were yelling in the hallways too.
- 1/5
Property is old and understaffed, the current staff cares more about hiding from clusters than being helpful. When asked for something as simple as a late checkout, I was told yes the night before and then told no in the morning.
- 5/5
We choose the 625'sq room which was super nice and comfortable with a nice view to the pool and golf.
- 5/5
Excellent
- 2/5
I wish the hotel would place me in a quieter area as I requested. The manager insisted the room by the stairs and elevator is quiet. No it is not at all. Also, the installation is very poor, we could hear everything from the next guests, a cough, a sneeze, doing their business in bathroom, flushing toilets, conversations….. however, other facilities are good, it is in a very beautiful area.
- 5/5
The hotel and Clemson University both were great to explore and the sights were amazing.
- 5/5
Cannot wait to go back! This will be the only hotel we choose to stay at when visiting Clemson. Absolutely LOVED every single thing about it and the staff is incredible too!
- 5/5
Just a lovely place , lot of amenities and great outdoor soaces
- 4/5
The only issue with the property was the pool area closes at 9pm. All near buy hotels are open until at least 10pm or later. If your intention is to use the pool or related facilities in the evening or you plan some outdoor socializing in the evening I suggest Lakeside Lodge that also has a fire pit that is great for socializing.
- 5/5
Our stay was perfect.
- 5/5
Our favorite place to stay in Clemson! The staff is friendly, clean rooms, and the most beautiful lake view!
- 5/5
We loved the pet friendly atmosphere and the resort style layout!
- 5/5
The area and property are excellent - might be time to invest in remodel and updates
- 5/5
It is our go to place to stay in the area.
- 5/5
My favorite property to stay in Clemson! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Rooms are clean with a beautiful view of the lake and golf course.
- 5/5
We got a huge room and we pleased with the view of the lake and pool. It was quiet too
- 5/5
Amazing as always!
- 5/5
Beautiful property
- 5/5
Always make us feel welcome.
- 3/5
Then the alarm clock went off at 5:00am. It was dark so I couldn’t read the tiny print on how to turn it off. I erroneously hit snooze instead of iff. So on the second alarm I was just up for the day… after a poor night sleep from chasing cockroaches. Why would they have alarm clocks like that? And who even uses alarm clock anymore? Cell phones and front desk are the norm. If youre going to have alarm clocks that have a unique way of turning on/off then the cleaning staff should turn them off after each and every guest. I will not be back because life is too short to stay in hotels that do the bare minimum. Oh, and the place was furnished from grandmas attic. Pristine condition but looks like it’s from an old Golden Corral restaurant. Very quiet hotel. Appears clean and new but furniture looks like it’s straight from the 80s.
- 5/5
We loved the property. The rooms were spacious and clean with pretty Clemson decor. Staff was wonderful.
- 5/5
Pleasantly surprised at the accommodation. Perfect for visiting CU, go tigers!!!
- 3/5
This was a wonderful hotel… the only issue is that someone had set the alarm to go off at 5am on a Saturday and I could not go back to sleep!
- 5/5
I wish this was more available and easier to book during school year
- 5/5
Really nice
