Reviews
The General Palmer Hotel is a historic, charming establishment in the heart of Durango, offering a unique experience with its old-time atmosphere and antique furnishings. Guests appreciate the hotel's cleanliness, comfortable beds, and friendly, helpful staff. However, some guests express disappointment with the complimentary breakfast, and the lack of windows in some rooms is a common complaint.
- Historic charm and antique furnishings
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Complimentary breakfast quality
- Lack of windows in some rooms

Nathan and Amanda were wonderful at the front desk! Very helpful and responsive to anything we needed. Very sweet, loved having coffee in our floor and coffee with real china cups in the lobby.
- 5/5
Very friendly and helpful staff. It was so nice to be able to park at the hotel early in the day so we could visit the town and ride the train even though we weren't checking in until later that evening. Restaurants and shops are very close, everything is walkable. Our room was very nice and breakfast was great. We had a very enjoyable stay.
- 5/5
Great vintage hotel. Located right in downtown and next to Silverton train.
- 5/5
Everything was awesome! Great location and the staff was incredible!
- 5/5
Location was perfect - to close everything we wanted to o experience.. Chandler at the front desk was amazing. Highly recommend this hotel if you stay in Durango.
- 5/5
room was spotless, breakfast was good, cookies were yummy and the best thing and the incredible helpful polite and wonderful staff.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, great location, friendly staff. Will definitely stay again.
- 5/5
Rooms are super nice
- 5/5
The hotel was wonderful. Impeccably maintained. Travis was so gracious and helpful. If he is an example of your staff as a whole — and I bet he is — you are in great shape!
- 5/5
Hotel has a 1800s charm along with the amenities you need to enjoy your stay.
- 5/5
Charm and breakfast
- 5/5
My room was beautiful and clean. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. Parking was available on site. I really enjoyed my stay.

This hotel BLEW ME AWAY! It's gorgeous, clean, staffed by lovely human beings, centrally located, historical, full of charm, and get this—they offer a free breakfast that is the best: eggs, sausage, muffins, oatmeal, cereals, breads/toast, and fresh coffee and tea 24/7!! The outside alone is worth a visit, but when you step inside it's like you've gone back in time to 1898, but with all the modern conveniences. It's also located right next to the historical & fun Durango > Silverton train depot from where the train going back & forth between those cities departs. TAKE IT! Just know you'll here the sound of the steam engine whistle every morning at about 8am-ish, again at 9am (departures), then once more w/ the return trains around 5:30pm & 6:30pm. I'm VERY sensitive to noise & thought it'd bother me, but nope, I LOVED IT. Made me feel like I was in the Old West & I actually looked forward to it. The hotel is in a PERFECT spot at the south end of town on the main strip (not loud, very quiet). This location enables you to just pop out of the hotel & walk up one side of the street as far as you want, then back down the other side. And along the way enjoy dozens of cafes, restaurants, stores, trinket shops, and specialty stores. I WISH I COULD MOVE TO DURANGO., GO! And stay at the General Palmer. We're going back! Shout out to AMAZING STAFFERS: Travis, Chandler, Caleb, Lucia, and Oxana. WE LOVE YOU GUYS! (Just 1 minor negative: no microwave, no fridge.) Rooms are AMAZING!
- 3/5
Staff good. Getting luggage car to room & room to car is horrible.
- 5/5
The main Hotel is very nice, however because we booked through Hotels.com our room was in an adjacent property and not in Main hotel. We were the only party not staying in the Main Hotel. Asked staff and was told they do not control the rooms choosen through Hotels.com, if we would have booked directly we could have stayed in Main hotel.
- 5/5
Everything was good.10 out of 10. Would recommend
- 5/5
I didn't look in the new wing, but I can see why other reviews say to stay only in the old hotel - the rooms are small and a bit odd, and I myself wouldn't stay in the ones without windows, but there's oodles of character, and in a good way. And while unusual, everything except the bathtub itself had been renovated nicely (and the tub - maybe 1960s - didn't need it, it's just old). The hotel itself is kind of cool with the old elevator, and the lounge/breakfast area is like a nice old comfortable Pullman car, very classy and very pleasant to sit in. And while the breakfast superficially wasn't really much more extensive than a chain breakfast - waffles, toast, yogurt, some fruit - just the setting and the fact it was nicely served and presented - makes all the difference. There's lots of shops and restaurants within a very short walk, the parking is great, and the railway is literally next door. We were only there one night, and I think it was the most expensive of several hotels on our trip. But I'd definitely go back, and hopefully for longer. Highly recommended!

Wonderful hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was great!
- 5/5
Great location and a great place to stay.
- 5/5
Breakfast really good. Parking excellent. Shopping seconds away.
- 5/5
Breakfast was great, staff is excellent and so close ridge the train. Great location in Old Durango .
- 5/5
Chandler and all the front desk staff are always wonderful.
- 5/5
Our room was very nice and super clean. The bed was comfortable. We enjoyed coffee and breakfast in the morning. We loved the location- next to restaurants, bars, and shops.
- 5/5
The staff were amazing - Travis and Chandler
- 5/5
Staff was very professional and helpful. Our stay was the best ever.!
- 5/5
The place is amazing and the staff never disappoint
- 5/5
We always stay at General Palmer. Love everything.
- 4/5
While it is a nice nostalgic old hotel there were a few things we were not thrilled about. We feel you should not put older guests on the second floor of The Palace side. There is no elevator and the stairs are quite difficult for us to haul our luggage up and down. We were not offered assistance. We both got real tired of navigating the stairs. I also ended up fixing the running toilet on my own as the maintenance staff was gone for the day after we checked in. The breakfast is similar to other 2-3 star hotels. (Quite average). The location is great and walkable to restaurants and shopping. The trains nearby are nostalgic. We are not quite sure the pricing for three nights was worth the convenience of the location.
- 5/5
The General Palmer Hotel is a special historic hotel. Beautiful and comfortable in all areas. A few things that would make this hotel excellent would be in-room coffee, complimentary water bottles in room, and more or brighter lighting in the rooms. There was not a smart tv in the room but for us it was a minor issue. Beds were very comfortable and the decor matched the feel of the historic hotel.
- 5/5
The General Palmer is a gem. I am never disappointed in my stay.
- 5/5
👍
- 5/5
It was a delightful hotel and stay
- 5/5
It’s a very elegant place very thankful to stay here
- 5/5
Amazing stay would definitely stay here again!!
- 5/5
Outstanding
- 5/5
Awesome and historic and very beautiful! Convenient to everything.
- 5/5
My boyfriend and I loved our stay here. The room was cozy and cute. We loved our robes after our nice hot showers. The staff was extraordinary. We loved the coffee bar in the lobby as well as the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. The location couldn't be beat. Everything we needed was within walking distance. We would definitely book here again.
- 5/5
The rooms were perfectly clean. We loved our palace sweet room which overlooked the Durango train station. Water pressure was great water was hot. Wi-Fi was strong. Breakfast in the morning was a pleasant surprise that we didn't expect but it was amazingly good! I love the quaint quiet mornings of the breakfast area. Definitely an experience to stay in such a historic location! The elevator was definitely fun! The lobby was absolutely beautiful! I love that everything is connected to downtown which made for fun leisure Saturdays to be able to walk from store to store and be able to head back to the hotel when we were tired. Definitely would love to stay again!
- 5/5
Amazing staff, historic gem, very nice and clean!
- 3/5
The outside patio is nice but worn and could use an updating of patio furniture the walls in the room are slightly thin and you can’t hear people speaking through the walls which is an awful you expect this in an older hotel. The staff are exceptional very knowledgeable great tour directors. The lobby is absolutely beautiful. There is plenty of lovely seating areas, but these are located in the original hotel building not in the wing
- 5/5
Very close to shops and restaurants
- 5/5
Many restaurants are within walking distance. We ate at the Italian restaurant that was right down stairs - it was great!! Chandler was so wonderful!! Helped us carrying our bags to our second floor room in the annex by the train (there is no elevator for those rooms) We loved staying at the General Palmer
- 4/5
Loved the location and the classiness of the main hotel. Unfortunately, we booked a room in the adjacent "Wing" structure. The room was very nice, but it was a direct outside access room and the temperatures were in the single digits that night so it was extremely cold in the room, even with the heater turned up. I would stay there again, just in the main hotel.
- 5/5
Beautiful place!! Very nice in a classic old world style. The best of everything. Definitely recommend and we will definitely be back!
- 4/5
The staff was excellent. We were disappointed in the generic breakfast. At an historical place, we expected something different but it was exactly the same as any Hampton Inn or Best Western. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.
- 5/5
wonderful place, i will be staying there again..the front desk staff did a great job, having great knowledge of the Hotel and it's history.
- 5/5
The room was clean but as we were looking for the remote we did find someone else's socks under the bed. The rest of the room was wonderful.
- 5/5
This hotel was such a great find! My husband and I have stayed in Durango, a few times. This was our first time at the hotel and we will be back for certain! Our room was great! Spacious and sew clean! The staff was so attentive, Chandler was great! He recommended some great things! I highly recommend this hotel! Breakfast was a nice surprise as well! If you're taking the train, this is the hotel for you! You can easily do a three minute walk there.
- 4/5
Nice hotel, great location, but very, very thin walls. We could hear the people in the next room who were talking softly. Also, the curtains in the room could not be kept open so you had to hold them open by hand in order to see out, which was weird. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom small. Breakfast was nice. Young men at the front desk were pleasant.
- 5/5
I really enjoyed my stay with my husband. Chandler the front desk attendant was accommodating and had a deep understanding of the history of the Palmer. I highly recommend that if you’re visiting Durango stay at the Palmer!!
- 5/5
Staff very friendly clean environment
- 5/5
Good service. Nice. Quiet. Good breakfast. Beautiful vintage hotel.
- 5/5
It was great!
- 4/5
Room very clean & staff very friendly
- 4/5
Courteous staff, clean room
- 4/5
Very nice room with a view of the hillside. Comfortable bed, nice bathroom, updated decor. Only downside was no elevator and scary outdoor stairs to access the second floor.
- 5/5
R etching was great!
- 5/5
The room was very clean with comfortable beds with clean white linens. The bathroom was clean with the refillable shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers in good clean shape. They even had robes in the closet. Heat pump mini split for room heat and a large tv but we didn’t use so I can’t speak to the channel selection. The rooms were quiet and I didn’t hear much of the other guest, very minimal road noise from outside. Basic continental breakfast, and coffee tea station set up. Beautiful seating where you can see the Rio Grande train. Parking is good and safe. What more could you ask for?! I would recommend for the experience and the comfort. Last, the staff was super friendly and very accommodating, with attention to detail. Very hospitable. Thank you for the great stay!
- 4/5
Couldn’t rate the breakfast because I didn’t have it. Be cautious booking through this company though because they state that the property doesn’t bill you until upon arrival but they did bill me two days before arrival and upon arrival so I was charged twice.
- 5/5
The stay was great because of the convience to the train ride. In addition, the clean room, amenities, and staff were great too! Thank you for a wonderful stay.
- 5/5
Breakfast was great
- 5/5
Hotel was great! Beautiful and clean on the inside. Chandler at the front desk was awesome! Free breakfast and free cookies was great as well. Great location. Great everything.
- 4/5
The room was clean and was located in a great location in vicinity to downtown Durango. We wish we would’ve stayed in the original hotel, but we were placed in a different wing that was renovated at a later date because it had bigger rooms. We wish we could’ve stayed in the original hotel. We did have some issues with our room. The key was bent and didn’t work and the adjoining door to the room next to us didn’t lock properly, but the hotel staff did go out of their way to come to our room twice to get both items fixed and resolved.
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
The room was spotless and cozy. The staff was beyond friendly and professional. The breakfast was decent (the eggs left a little to be desired). The location is perfect. Definitely can't mind the train whistle. It goes off every hour but you can hear it all over town. You just get used to it. Would definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
The parking was great; easy, free, plenty of room. The staff was amazing - friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The rooms were clean and comfortable - the bed was amazing! Free coffee and cookies all the time. Overall, a great place.
- 5/5
Absolutely gorgeous!!
- 5/5
Nice old hotel with pleasant staff and clean facilities .
- 5/5
Great hotel
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel and room..Very friendly and accommodating staff, perfect location!
- 5/5
The Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quiet. We got to watch a he train from the window and balcony. Wonderful weekend getaway.
- 5/5
Breakfast was sole ol hotel quality. Staff was top notch and especially Chandler made the stay warm, welcoming, and my wife and I felt at home and like family
- 5/5
Pretty nice hotel , right in the beggining of the main st and behind the railroad . Very pretty , staff is pleasant
- 5/5
Room was clean . Staff is very friendly.
- 5/5
Lovely place, very well situated, the staff is super friendly and the old vibe to the hotel is really nice
- 5/5
This was our first time visiting Durango so stayed 2 nights at this hotel. The experience was amazing, loved the historical vibe. The hotel provided warm chocolate chip cookies, a hot chocolate, coffee, and tea bar. The breakfast and dining area was wonderful and service top notch. What a way to start our annual Mother/Daughter. The only issue was not being able to stay longer.
- 5/5
Staff was very nice and the room was really nice. Breakfast was a little disappointing but otherwise it was a great experience.
- 5/5
We stopped here on our road trip and it was the best decision! Staff was so friendly and welcoming- can’t beat a fresh chocolate chip cookie upon checkin. Room was clean and spacious. Unbelievable comfortable and the room had its own AC unit so we could change the temperature. Breakfast wasn’t anything special but they covered all the basics and everything was delicious. I would love to visit again and stay another day so we could explore the town!
- 4/5
Room could of been cleaner
- 4/5
Could have used some sprucing up.
- 5/5
So impressed with this amazing place we had the best time and just made our entire stay extra special! Can’t ever imagine staying anywhere else!
- 5/5
The room was awesome. The only issue was a thick layer of dust on the ceiling fan which we cleaned off to use. The breakfasts are very good. The staff was invariably courteous. The location is perfect. We will be back.
- 5/5
Breakfast was hot and delicious. The room was above and beyond we expected. The room had Instant hot water in sinks and shower, windows that open, easy to use heater / a/c, very comfy bed, excellent location, and this hotel has very knowledgeable and friendly staff. This hotel is Durango history at its finest!!
- 5/5
Special spot. Beautiful building & rooms. Highly recommended.
- 5/5
Wonderful clean friendly service!! Can not wait to stay again!!!
- 5/5
The staff was lovely. The decor was so beautiful! Breakfast was delicious. The location could not have been better!
- 5/5
Really enjoyed the experience. Great period decor.

Downtown location
- 5/5
The property is very well maintained and the entire experience was positive. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, and the rooms are very clean and cozy. We will definitely come back.
- 5/5
Yes, the room was spotless and the staff was wonderful. Everyone we interacted were very welcoming, attentive and told us stories about the history of the hotel!
- 5/5
Loved the staff, the peace and quiet, the beauty of the town during the holidays just outside our door … it was dreamy!
- 5/5
The room was very clean, they had eveything, very friendly staff and the bed was comphy. The only thing is it can get cold in the evenings in your room there. Properly because the building is so old. They do have a heater in your room, but i havent found out how to turn it on. I would definitely come here again!
- 4/5
The room was super clean and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful!
- 5/5
Both my Sister and I, along with our Husbands felt at home. The staff were so kind and generous with good information about the area. Our rooms were beautiful and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. The views were beautiful.
- 5/5
Beautiful spotless room. Beautiful hotel in general.
- 5/5
Staff made the stay even better! Very convenient to walk everywhere.
- 5/5
The rooms are vintage and comfortable Perfect location for walking around downtown
- 5/5
Beautiful historic charm, clean room, friendly staff, good breakfast.
- 5/5
Chandler was fabulous when we arrived. He gave us great information and some history of the hotel as well as great suggestions for seeing the town.
- 5/5
The room was comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful as well as informative and parking was good. We didn’t move our vehicle once while we were there breakfast was delicious and convenient.
- 5/5
Lovely hotel!
- 4/5
It is a historical building. It was very clean for a historical building. The staff is pleasant and informative and especially the morning person went out of his way to learn more about my trip and make some recommendations.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, great location, and very clean.
- 5/5
Great place
- 4/5
Beautiful old hotel, nice large room. They were nice to move our room on check in when we needed an elevator vs stairs to our room. Front desk staff were very helpful.
- 5/5
The beds and linens are very comfortable and the hot water for my shower was instant and plentiful. There is no desk in the room where you could plug in your laptop and work though there is a flat screen tv, marble countertop at the sink and the clothes closet smelled of cedar wood. It is old style elegance. The elevator is tiny and has a retractable cage. It was the first elevator in Colorado. The staff is wonderful, very friendly and helpful. A special shout out to Chandler.
- 5/5
Great location in downtown Durango and for riding the Silverton-Durango train.
- 5/5
Great staff. Clean room. Great experience
- 5/5
Excellent location downtown and right next to the train depot. Nice sitting areas outside to enjoy watching the train come and go.
- 5/5
The general Palmer is beautiful. We loved everything about the hotel.
- 5/5
I just love this western town. The hotel met all my expectations for a wester hotel. The staff is extremely friendly . We have been guests about 4 times now. We just love it here.
- 5/5
Great hotel with amazing history. Love the way it has been done to keep up with the 1800’s feel.
- 5/5
Excellent staff. We were impressed with Chandler at the front desk. We haven’t seen such a high level of service in a long time.
- 5/5
A beautiful historic hotel I’ve had the pleasure of staying at many times over the last 26 years. Staff is always very friendly and helpful and knowledgeable on the history of the hotel and area. They include a very nice breakfast.
- 5/5
Good hotel
- 5/5
Lovely historic hotel
- 5/5
The staff was amazing!
- 5/5
PLEASE BOOK RIGHT NOW!! The General Palmer Hotel is just wonderful and a huge thank you to all staff, especially Amy and Lucia. We cannot recommend it highly enough and loved our stay with you all. THANK YOU.
- 5/5
Absolutely beautiful hotel, everything was lovely we were very well looked after 😊
- 5/5
Location is perfect! Easy parking. Nice view from the patio. Staff was friendly and helpful. Free breakfast was nice, not amazing. The coffee is a little weak, but otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- 4/5
The elevator not acceptable. Very difficult to maneuver.
- 5/5
We had an inside room so no view but it was extremely quiet. The staff was outstanding in the lobby and the breakfast room. We loved all the woodwork and the antiques!
- 5/5
Definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
I like its proximity to everything
- 5/5
Special thanks to a manager, Lucia, that resolved a room request issue between Expedia’s booking system and the hotel itself. We had a lovely corner room in the beautiful main hotel. It was perfect! HIGHLY recommend this hotel!
- 5/5
Its an amazing place to stay in Durango
- 5/5
View of train; staff was excellent
- 5/5
We had a lovely stay here. We stayed at both historic hotels in Durango and this was our favorite front. Staff was excellent very kind. Very chatty treat on a great conversation. They have the oldest operating elevator in the state of Colorado. It’s small, but it’s worth the experience of the ride. Don’t forget to go out on TV. Second floor balcony deck. It’s over the west part of Durango and the trains coming and going.
- 4/5
Ample parking, typical continental breakfast, smallest elevator in the world, older hotel and rooms, but they were very clean. Mattress needed to be changed.
- 5/5
The view and location to all attractions were great.
- 5/5
Gen Palmer staff was excellent. The room was cozy with a very comfortable bed….plus it was quiet so we got an excellent night’s sleep. Because it was the busy season in Colorado and Durango, we had to split our time between another notable Durango hotel and the General Palmer. With many more amenities (e.g. free breakfast), the General Palmer would be our number one choice, hands down.
- 5/5
Lovely old hotel in old Durango and next to train station. Nice breakfast, beautiful seating areas and a big rooftop patio.
- 5/5
Beautiful and historic hotel, wonderfully authentic but perfectly modern
- 5/5
I wish all hotel stays would go as well as our stay at the General Palmer. Wonderful staff, spacious room with comfortable bed, and excellent downtown location. Would definitely stay here again!
- 4/5
Our only complaint, and it's a small one, is the room size. Everything else, particularly the service, was fantastic. Great town with many restaurant and shopping choices. Hotel is a grand, old Western downtown hotel that is well preserved
- 5/5
The only thing we don’t care for is the room has no windows. We don’t recall seeing that as part of the description
- 5/5
Wonderful service. Fantastic location.
- 5/5
A great night
- 5/5
The Hotel was historic but at the same time very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful with local suggestions for things to do and places to eat. Being next to the Steam Train added to the experience. Our room was in a secondary building and had no access except for a staircase which was not a issue but could be for some with mobility challenges.
- 5/5
Felt hotel provided the atmosphere we were looking for "in stepping back in time" railroad package.
- 5/5
Le personnel est au top. Le petit dejeuner est correct et il y a des fruits frais. Je recommande vivement cet hôtel pour Durango
- 4/5
Other than that, staff were all great and friendly, room was clean and for such an old hotel the building was in good shape! Good location for walking into Durango too. Plenty of free parking.
- 5/5
I liked the old elevator and old fashion keys 🔑
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
Beautiful historic hotel that allows walking to all of downtown Durango. If you're taking the Durango Silverton train it’s a 5 minute walk at most to it. Rooms were spacious and very clean.
- 5/5
We really enjoyed staying at this historic hotel, which nicely blends a bygone era with modern amenities.
- 5/5
Love this historic hotel. My favorite.
- 5/5
The General Palmer House was eloquent in every way possible. Loved staying there. The staff were great.
- 5/5
Amazing!! I could rant for a half hour how great this hotel and service is. The location is just as good too. Special Thanks to Chandler and the entire FD crew. Fantastic job!
- 5/5
Excellent
- 3/5
There are other choices in the downtown area to consider.
- 5/5
Warm and friendly place to stay. Very considerate staff. Chandler was especially helpful in getting us settled in after we arrived late at night and we were very tired after traveling.
- 5/5
Fabulous Hotel
- 5/5
This was a unique historic hotel that has been well maintained and updated while retaining its original character. It was a delight to stay there and experience its charm.
- 4/5
I would stay there again for ambience and convenience!
- 5/5
Charming, historical, different than the same old thing. I loved it.
- 5/5
The hotel was beautiful
- 4/5
Bed was REALLY tall...comes with steps up. No mini frig or microwave.
- 5/5
The vent in the bathroom turns on but it is inside the wall or ceiling. It has been closed weed up but still turns on.
- 5/5
Really close to the Train Station.
- 5/5
The rooms are beautifully appointed to fit the time period. The king sized bed was very comfortable - we slept great. We had the continental breakfast twice, and enjoyed it both times. There are several dining options within walking distance for all budgets. We will definitely stay again!
- 5/5
Greatly
- 5/5
Great location if you’re planning to ride the trains to Silverton. Very nice staff and the room was clean and quiet.
- 5/5
The General Palmer Hotel provides an American Victorian era experience but with freshness and an updated feel. The staff are super helpful, the bedroom very comfortable and homey, and the surrounding area filled with restaurants, music, and delightful things to do in a gorgeous setting. I definitely will return!!
- 4/5
Classic hotel next to the Durango-Silverton rail station. Nice breakfast included. 3rd floor room had no window, maybe the one they stick Hotels.com Platinums in :-(
- 5/5
Overall great stay. Helpful staff to a fault!!
- 5/5
Right next to the Durango-Silverton train station.
- 4/5
The breakfast was not the best. Otherwise, a pleasant stay.
- 5/5
Staff was extremely helpful. Location great for dining and riding the train.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, great staff, uber convenient location
- 4/5
Comfortable and pleasant with a great location close to the train station and downtown.
- 5/5
In Durango for a night to ride the train. Hotel very convenient to old downtown restaurants and shops. Hotel right next to the train station and as hotel guests, were allowed to park there. 5 minute walk to the Durango-Silverton train. Hotel very comfortable. Breakfast was very good. Staff very accommodating.
- 5/5
This ho
- 5/5
The staff was great.
- 5/5
This was a great hotel. We stayed here for two nights on our drive-through Colorado. The staff was really nice and very helpful at the front desk. It's right on Main Street so you can walk right out your front door and have access to all kinds of restaurants and shops. The room was extremely comfortable. Do note that if you want a room with windows, you may end up in a building across the street from the actual hotel, but that's OK. The lobby of the hotel has a very comfortable seating area, which they call the library Where one can have coffee, tea, and comfortably read or wait for your friends. A minor drawback is that there is no elevator in the detached building so you have to schlep your bags upstairs. It is also located immediately adjacent to the train depot so that can be a little noisy, although not at night.
- 5/5
We had a 2 bedroom with large living room. There was an issue with bath tub but they quickly took care of it. Breakfast was delicious. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Breakfast is great! Missed having a window, however, and that should be a little more explicit in the room descriptions. Everything else was beyond great.
- 5/5
Amazing stay. We will be back!
- 5/5
Great stay breakfast was good. Very clean and surprisingly quiet even though we wete right next to the train station.
- 5/5
👍
- 5/5
Great place to.stay
- 5/5
Excellent staff ..very beautiful older building with lots of class...steps from the durango train..perfect place to stay..i was treated like a queen..we will be back!
- 5/5
We had a fantastic stay!! It was our 35 anniversary and we couldn’t have enjoyed it more. Chandler was awesome and every suggestion he made was superb! We will definitely be back!
- 3/5
Everything about this Hotel is noisy probably due to its age. Also train is annoying.
- 5/5
Great hotel!! Chandler was extremely helpful helping with several special requests ahead of our arrival. Highly recommend this property.
- 5/5

Beautiful historical hotel right in the heart of Durango! We were able to walk everywhere. Staff was very nice and helpful.

One of the best Hotels I’ve ever stayed at . We actually came back for an extra day .

Staff and overall look of the hotel was fabulous. However there was loud banging from doors being slammed throughout the early morning hours from cleaning staff that made it hard to sleep.

Beautiful historic hotel right in downtown Durango. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Loved the historic aspect but with that comes smaller rooms, older wiring (i.e., no ports for charging cell phones), and limited (no) amenities (no pool, restaurant). Highly recommend if you don't mind missing out on modern comforts. Plus side is you are right in the middle of everything as you walk out the doors.

Fantastic hotel- great location fun downtown but most memorable part was the outstanding service! Would definitely stay here again

Love the property.

Good location, clean, good staff, good breakfast. Lots of train noise. Be careful when booking. Inside rooms are gloomy with no windows. Be especially careful not to be next to the elevator!

was placed in a room with no windows. it was pretty unsettling to be waking up at 8 am in a pitch dark room. Very uncomfortable feeling. Whoever thought it was acceptable to sell windowless rooms should spend a few days in one.

Antique furnishings and beautiful carpet and extremely comfortable bed and bedding

This historic hotel has managed to create a historic environment with all the comforts a modern tourist expects! The towels and linens first rate, antique elevator fun and staff friendly and helpful. The hotel is well located near the train station and you are able to walk every where to shop and eat.

Kept the lovely historical furnishings without being campy

We loved how unique and well run The General Palmer was. Chandler at the front desk made us feel right at home and had plenty of recommendations for our chosen interests around town! We would absolutely visit again.

This hotel was exceptionally beautiful. You can tell they have invested heavily in maintaining the historical character of the building. The staff was always friendly and helpful. We booked a trip on the train and this hotel made getting to the train in the morning as smooth as butter.

Great location, however u can hear every noise whether coming from the outside or from guests in the hallways. They seriously need to work on noise proofing!! Yes it’s a very old hotel but expected better.

Very convenient if you are taking the train. Check-in was excellent, very helpful friendly staff. Great location to walk Main Street and visit the many restaurants and shops. Nice balcony to enjoy a glass of wine at the end of a long day. Hotel is historic so the entire place was period style. Very attractive, comfortable and clean. Enjoyed our stay.
