In the morning when we went down for breakfast, there was a note saying that the water was off for some reason and so they gave us a gift certificate to a nearby breakfast place that was wonderful. Great customer service. Would recommend this place to everyone.

I liked the convenience of the location for walking around downtown, the beautiful & fragrant gardens, the charm, outdoor spaces, comfy beds & bedding, etc. Our room needed a bit of maintenance (carpets looked gross, some peeling wallpaper, tv not centered over fireplace, tub needed refinishing), there was no getting in touch with staff if needed, our space did not get cleaned/bed made while we were there including removing breakfast dishes which stayed the whole time. The booking description said “ocean view” & I don’t even think it’s possible to see the ocean from this location due to proximity so that needs to be updated online. It would have also been nice to have lotion in the bathroom & get fresh towels. Overall, a bit of a let down considering price point (which booking.com refused to adjust for me when it dropped over 200$ in the days before our trip & I wasn’t able to get ahold of anyone at the hotel to discuss ahead of time nor did they respond to my prior message regarding checkin time) & expectations based on online description. Loads of potential but didn’t quite hit the mark. Also, our breakfast was brought to us cold. The restaurant vouchers we had provided a much better meal the following day.

The location was very good. The outdoor garden was also very nice. The room was comfortable with good bedding. The breakfast was very poor. It was a big disappointment. We got a dried up omelette served with a poor sausage patty and poor bread. No choice at all. The shower was also weird. Very old fashion.

    1. The picture on the landing page is not a picture of the 6 room motel. The hotel is a quaint place with a welcoming courtyard. 2. They motel description mentions Bed and Breakfast. There is no breakfast onsite, it's a voucher for a restaurant in town and you have to ask for it. 3. Room was great, clean with the exception of cobb webs on the interior window. 4. When I checked in at 7:00ish, there wasn't anyone around, I called a number and she gave me a door code and told me where my room was....I never saw anyone except 1 housekeeper the entire time of my 1 night stay. The next morning, I wandered the property looking for someone to ask, why check out was and where I could get a voucher for breakfast. The one housekeeper was super nice and informed me check out was 11am. However, when I ask about a breakfast voucher, she wasn't forthcoming, said she didn't know....then I pressed her...and she provided one. I didn't understand why I needed to press her.

This was my first time staying here and the place is cute and very close to the shops. Upon arrival there was no one available for check in as advertised on the website and the front door. I also called the phone number on the website and the front door has posted to which no one answered. Thank goodness for a housekeeper and groundskeeper that called the owner (Sandra) to ask what is going on since several families were standing outside to check in. After 2 hours they did an over the phone check in. I spoke with the owner to express my disappointment and she told me if I don’t like it I can go somewhere else then proceeded to hang up on me. I noticed in the common area there was a phone with an answering machine and I see there is 49 calls with messages that has not been answered. After checking the reviews more extensively I’m seeing this is not uncommon at this establishment, as it has happened before. I definitely will not return and I highly recommend other more accommodating hotels in the area. I will say the staff was incredible under the circumstances but didn’t appear to be surprised at the time of the incident.

Quant small bed and breakfast located in downtown Half Moon Bay. Offered free wine and freshly baked cookies in the evening was a nice treat. Breakfast was delivered to our room- you have a choice. Bookings. Com advertised the room that we booked as King Size Bed with a “ Sea View”! Well there was no Sea View, the view was a “street view “ with houses! See pictures. Even if you had binoculars you wouldn’t be able to see the “Sea”!! Very disappointing and deceptive advertising.

Shower had mold in glass enclosure room had a stale smell. We had a big storm wind was blowing in through gaps in doors and windows. Roof began to leak when raining. Rooms apparently are not cleaned on a daily basis (mine was not) and infraestructure needs some gurther maintenance but nothing so big or bad to ruin your stay. Rooms are big and cozy! The Inn has a beautiful patio in the front that is surrounded by flowering plants and a nice fountain. If the sun is too much for you there is a lush shaded (by a beautiful tree) garden with a gazebo in the back. If the outside isn’t your thing there is an inside sun room set between the gardens where you can sit and enjoy some tea, coffee, wine and some chocolate chip cookies. And they are pet friendly, Inn sits just a block from Main. Although the hostess doesn’t live on site there is. Number to call. They are there for check in from about 3 to 6 ish.

I was not expecting grandma’s house. Room was old and musty. The reviews were accurate when they said character (of an old woman house who lived in a shoe)was so much. The staff was very sweet and offered home made cookies. I was uncomfortable with so much stuff in the room and the bathroom was nice except for the shower was sort of strange in a claw bath tub that only produced a small amount of water that was called a shower and the hot water was limited to one person and hot it was not. I truly found out that my first bnb was very disappointing.

The room is clean and you get this family style decoration, which is expected from a bed and breakfast inn. However, I couldn't check in when I came at 7pm because there is no staff in the building. The buildings are all locked with passcode locks. And no one is picking up the phone when I tried to call the property. The situation eventually got resolved when I call Expedia for help. They got a hold of the property. But it took a good hour to get things clear up. Another issue I find with the place is that it's WiFi is spotty. It's not good enough even for light use. Overall, I hope they would make improvements on those things and my experience can help fellow travelers.

The accommodations were lovely. There was a few stains on our sheets, which is a bit disappointing and they did ask for tips for the cleaning staff which is odd because you’re already paying to stay there. There was alarms that kept going off in the middle of the night somewhere outside the property, which was very annoying and kept us up most the night but when we did call the front desk, they said they’re gonna send someone to deal with it. It turned off a couple times and then it’ll go back on this alarm that was brutal. Otherwise it was a pleasant day.

This place was so cute that I really wish I could give it a better review. Lovely decorations, the common areas were nice and there was tea, coffee, cookies, and alcohol to enjoy at your leisure. Loved the style of the bedroom. Unfortunately the bed was so old and used that it sloped down on the sides and was too soft to sleep on, we just tossed and turned all night and woke up with back pain. However that could be a personal preference. So even that wasn’t a huge complaint. There were ants and the bedding was yellowed from age and use, feathers coming out of the decorative pillows, one of the pillowcases was ripped open and there was mold on the ceiling and wall in the bathroom. Even that, I get it, it’s old. The biggest complaint I have is that it’s a bed and breakfast that doesn’t have a breakfast at the hotel!! You get a certificate for breakfast. You have to leave the hotel and walk down the street (it was raining for us) and walk down Main Street to get to moonside bakery. But you don’t get their baked goods, you get a crappy menu to choose from and the food while it wasn’t bad, was not good. Don’t call it a bed and breakfast if you don’t have breakfast. Or atleast clearly state it on the website. Very sad and disappointed as this could have been a really cute place with a lot of potential for a great stay.

This facility is a "Bed and Breakfast" that we visited in midweek in the middle of November. Perhaps we should not have been surprised that we were the only guests. But when we arrived, a few minutes after the 3PM check-in time, there was no one there, and we had to call an answering service to get them to open up. We were also surprised that the breakfast was not at the facility, but at a restaurant 3 blocks away (pretty decent breakfast, though). I'm not sure if this is normal, or just because we were the only guests. The room was pretty impressive, but I had trouble with the heat. There was a gas-powered "fireplace," but I was unable to get it to follow the setting on the thermostat. In the middle of the night, it had warmed the room 9 degrees above where I set it, and I had to turn it off completely (not easy -- the touch-panel seemed to be miscalibrated so I had to touch "OFF" about a dozen times before it responded correctly).

The Mills Rose Inn had so much character. You feel right at home with the extra amenities that are offered. East walk to downtown HMB. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay there again when in the area.

On the down side, there is no one on the grounds mos of the time, so when arriving at 2:30 to verify parking, you call a number and no one calls back. Finally, a landscaper called and verified someone would come at 3:00 check-in time. Similarly, at 8:30 AM the next morning, we went to see if someone could explain how to use the fireplace or heat the room as our room got cold down to 61 degrees, but no one there. We had to stand within 5 feet of the TV Comcast gateway to get the remote to work, and all movie channels not subscribed to though not greyed out as usual. Plus, no HDTV. Breakfast provided, but had to walk downtown and wait in a long line because of the Pumpkin Festival for limited menu. Wi-Fi Internet was very slow. Not a traditional B&B.

We had an amazing stay in the briar rose room. We came for our two year anniversary and my girlfriend’s name is Rose and she absolutely loved the place. It was quiet and peaceful and absolutely beautiful. The decor and the whole theme was amazing. Everything from the rooms to the dining room was just perfectly designed. The staff was so nice and helpful. They even gave us a complimentary breakfast for Ana amazing little dinner down the street that was amazing too. My girlfriend and I definitely loved it to say the least and we will be coming back forsure. Thank you for the amazing stay!

What a great place. We were only there one night before our flight. Such a quaint inn right near the beaches of half moon bay. The town was great and we will definitely be back again.

Bathroom sacrifices convenience and comfort for charm. Same could be said for a master bedroom with no closet. It was nice but please update the photo on Hotels.com. Nice to walk to everything. Clean and well maintained, but the absence of a real “host” at a B&B make it a bit soulless.

This was an amazing place to stay. We wish we could have stayed longer!! They have thought of everything: coffee maker in the room and in a common area, water bottles everywhere, wine and sherry/brandy in the common area, A refrigerator and freezer were in the room along with a microwave. The place itself was out of a storybook, enchanting and beautiful.

A charming historical house turned into B&B. While no longer offer breakfast on property, the bakery where you can use the breakfast vouchers has decent options and only a short walk away. It is only a block away from the Main Street and on the quieter side of the town. Definitely enjoy our stay there.

Beware the false advertising. There is no breakfast served on site. You are handed a voucher and expected to walk 4 blocks in the cold morning foggy weather to a small bakery inside of a strip mall where the service is poor to those with the vouchers versus the regular customers Who ordered more. You are only allowed one option: scrambled eggs, or French toast or oatmeal or Belgian Waffles served Very plain With a sprinkle of cut up fruits. No choice of juice or espresso. Just a cup of plain coffee or tea. Disappointed to say the least for the amount of money paid. The property itself was pretty, but dated with rickety old stairs. The gardens were beautiful with Spring flowers, and roses. The room Itself had nice Victorian era decor, and a clawfoot tub. But gone are the days of be and be run with warm, friendly owners and breakfast served on site. You are greeted by a college-aged staff member who was polite, but did not provide much info other than the standard code for the rooms and the voucher. Btw pictures on Expedia are misleading. There is a picture of Filoli Gardens, which is located in Woodside California and they also used a “stock photo” Of a full breakfast complete with orange juice, coffee, and a lavish spread. Disappointed to say the least.

The home was beautiful, meticulously decorated. The rooms had everything we needed in them. The grounds were hot out, flowers everywhere. The location was perfect, less than a block from Main Street. The free breakfast was at a bakery and that was great too. The only thing that was different than elected is that I thought it was a hotel where there would be a host. Instead it was like a vacation dental where you do everything virtually and let yourself in. That said, the instructions were easy and the energy went smoothly.

This is such a beautiful gem of a place! It was so cute, with beautiful flowers everywhere and places to sit outside and enjoy delicious coffee or a glass of wine, complimentary. Our two kids were with us and the staff fixed them freshly baked cookies, which was so thoughtful. We can't wait to return!

The two patios are relaxing and well taken care of, lots of flowers! The staff was very friendly and courteous. They give you passes for breakfast in a delicious bakery nearby within walking distance! If you are looking for a relaxing spot look no more:)…highly recommended!

cons - they have inconsiderate neighbors. There was an offsite event happening at a church across the street with loud music playing until after midnight. Check with management before booking to make sure this is not a standard (saturday night) occurrence because it was terrible.

The breakfast was actually a voucher for an off premises restaurant, which did not open until 8 am, so it didn’t work for us. The inn itself is lovely, but I would not characterize it as a bed and breakfast since there was no breakfast on the premises.

We arrived at our room and it was 78 degrees inside according to the thermostat. So hot. We called the office about this (spoke to Sandra) and she said our only option was to open the windows. I was hesitant about this because there was extremely loud music playing outside until late at night, and when asked if there was air conditioning or any other option she was EXTREMELY rude and said “okay well would you like to leave? If you’re not happy you can leave.” I was so shocked to hear this, as we have traveled almost 12 hours and were exhausted and had already paid for the room, I simply was looking for a solution. Customer service here is 1/10. Also, shower pressure was completely awful, and I usually am not picky about this, however it was shocking how awful the shower was.

Cute little spot. Complimentary wine time which was lovely to sit in front yard or back yard. Room had claw bath tub. It had a gas fireplace, cooling fan, microwave, mini fridge. Two blocks off main downtown street so many coffee shops and local restaurants within 5 minute walk. Quiet area. Front garden had several benches and tables to sit at, back area had a table. Exterior was well lit.
