It would be nice if the rooms have screen windows. Would smell better.

My room was very clean, a nice size, the beds are very comfortable and breakfast is always very good. Especially on weekdays. The hotel is centrally located for my needs. The staff is always very polite and helpful.

We love staying at this hotel. It’s 15 minutes to Laguna Beach without major traffic and the morning breakfasts are wonderful with fresh made eggs, sometimes omelette, and complimentary happy hour. I do wish they had real half-and-half and not the half-and-half small capsules. The rooms are quiet and comfortable and spacious. The price is always very reasonable for the area. Although at times we have found the pool to be a little cool, the hot tub is always working. Free parking at this location.

We like this hotel and stayed a few times before. This time I was very disappointed by the noise. From 6 a.m., people were constantly slamming doors in the hallway, which made it impossible to get a good night’s sleep. It was very disturbing and affected our stay. Also our room was last one on the building and from outside gate the same situation. Two night crazy slamming doors both side of room.

My husband and I have now stayed here twice while visiting our daughter. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the amenities are just what we need, and the breakfast (especially on weekends when they cook eggs to order and have more variety) are great! We enjoy the courtyard for breakfast or lounging by the fireplace or near the water fountain. We have used the hot tub frequently but haven't yet braved the pool when the evenings are cool. One thing we noticed this time was that the a/c and fridge were a bit noisy during the night which is a minor thing. We will definitely return to this charming place. Thank you !

This place wasn't bad for the day but at night it was extremely loud. We could hear every step on the floor above us as well as a ton of street traffic noise. The worst part was that we were right next to the ice room and that machine made a ton of noise all night. If you need to stay here try to get a room on the back side (not street side) of the hotel and definitely get as far away from the ice machine room as possible.

I had a wonderful experience in my 2 night stay. The located is perfect for a quick and direct drive to Laguna Beach. The concierge was very friendly and helpful. The room was a good size, clean, and my favorite part: has a refrigerator and microwave so that I could eat my leftovers from local restaurants. I also loved the complimentary breakfast every morning! I had scrambled eggs, sausages, potatoes with so many other choices like cereal, waffles, pancakes, muffins and more! It was quiet (I never heard anyone running down hallways or any traffic from nearby roads) from my room. I would definitely stay there again.

Upon arrival we were greeted immediately and the front desk clerk was very professional and friendly. Gave clear instruction on how to get to our room. Our room was very clean, the beds were very comfortable and the room had everything we needed. I’m glad they had an iron and ironing board because it was well used. Breakfast was fresh with quite a few options. We didn’t have time for the pool, as it was overcast and sort of cold anyway.

A really, really good hotel. Free Parking. Free Breakfast (with a chef preparing omelets). Free happy hour (with free beer and wine and snacks (honest!) . This place is all warm wood and tile. The lounge has a large stone fireplace that's warm and comfy on cool mornings. My wife and I come to Irvine several times a month. After trying out at least a half dozen other hotels, we found this one and we won't stay anywhere else. Great friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are quite large and really well appointed. In my opinion, the best reasonably priced hotel in Orange County.

I’ve stayed here before. This time I had some hiccups. Had a double booking for the same day. I also had a courtyard room but had a live bug in my bed. The front desk got me another room right away but I found hair on the pillows and what looked like to be with another bug in the corner of the bed in the new room or a bunch of hair balled up. Either way not okay for what I pay a night

Pool area is nice.It was good to have a shopping center and starbucks nearby. Bus stop that takes you to Laguna Beach is very close by. There is no shuttle to the airport. Overall it was a good stay.

At this hotel again.

We had no problem with the WiFi. It was a hot OC day so we were looking forward to taking a refreshing dip in pool. The pool temperature was as hot as the jacuzzi. Staff said it had a mind of its own. We had to ask for towels as there were no clean pool towels in either outside location. We decided to eat outside for dinner in seating area by pool but had to have staff clean up breakfast dishes that were left outside along with trash.

Very nice hotel close to Laguna Woods Village. Room was well furnished and comfortable, lacking only a mini-safe. Staff excellent. Our room had a problem with the window and after maintenance was unable to resolve it, they changed rooms for us promptly. Excellent breakfast and friendly service at the breakfast buffet. Highly recommend the Ayres Hotel for anyone staying in the area!

Fourth stay here in five months and this is the first stay that was not Excellent. I love this hotel, location is great, good hot tub, really excellent breakfasts and happy hour. One of my favorite things is to have breakfast and happy hour by the outdoor fireplace and it was not working at all. This despite three trips to the front desk where they assured me, it was working and would be turned on immediately. Last day there, the Wi-Fi kept dropping and the in-room phone did not connect to the front desk to get help. When I bring up an issue, the staff is cordial and helpful, but it was so odd that they couldn’t get the fireplace working or tell me what was actually going on. I’ll be back because it’s convenient for visiting family…..

I’ve always had a good experience at Ayres (usually the Seal Beach location). This one had the same nice-sized room, but a couple of times the apparent pipe noise from another room sounded like someone learning to play the trombone. And the shower flow was weak. Other than that all good.

This Ayres hotel was a lovely, pleasant place to stay and the price was surprisingly reasonable. I would happily stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Our disappointment was with the room itself. The heater/air conditioner had terrible odor, the pillows and room itself smelled odd, and the floor was so sticky we had to wipe it down with towels. Updates or a deep clean is needed.

Front desk staff very friendly & pleasant. One of the best included breakfasts (including an omelet station and eggs cooked to order!) for a hotel of this size and cost that I've stayed in.

There was also another couple there and it look like a trafficking situation. He was at least in his 50’s and she was under 18 for sure. He watched every move she made. It was pretty strange. We will not be staying at this hotel again, and I love Ayers hotels, but this one is off my list now. The staff at the desk were not personable at all. I asked for a later check out and they gave us to 12:00 noon or we would be charged. We stayed at 2 other Ayers hotels on our trip and the staff was very polite and accommodating. The staff were great at those hotels and the rooms were clean. We stayed at the Ayers hotel in Carlsbad/Vista and had no problem with sand in our room or anywhere else.

Very Shady feeling creepers hanging out in the parking lots everywhere in their cars in the parking lots. Smelly rooms. Coffee is horrible. Skip Laguna Woods Ayres and go to the one in Mission Viejo. Leaps and bounds better. Very unfriendly and dont really care about their customers unless they are old and I’m 55 plus.

We wished that there were some gluten-free bread options, but we should’ve known and brought our own, along with alternative milk because of lactose intolerance. The rooms are large clean, and the whole hotel is super functional. This is what I mean… Washer and dryers available on the second and third floor, gorgeous little pool, Jacuzzi, fitness center with all the equipment you need to get a quick workout, little fireplace in the lobby.. so cozy and relaxing with a daily breakfast. Now this is not continental style breakfast, they literally make your eggs any style fresh, and you can make your own little waffles. Super amazing hotel with with a affordable rate great… staff… super friendly and the property is well maintained. Granted it’s not a five star hotel but honestly, it gives five star vibes. Had a great day thank you so much.!

There were signs everywhere on property that the Holiday Breakfast times are 7-10am. When we came for a breakfast at 9:15am on December 31st, we were told that it closed at 9am. My child wasn’t even offered milk. Disappointing. Second, we were told the pool was heated - it was not heated and we couldn’t swim. Jacuzzi was fine. Room is comfortable.

I only stayed for one night. The tv’s in the entire hotel were. It working. The cable guide would come in but once a channel was chided a “locked” message would appear. I was told the cable company was aware and working on it. Most likely it was a problem because of the rain. That’s ridiculous. My friends parents live a 5minute walk away and there was no problem.. it was quite in convenient as there was no option to even stream or use apps. Really irritating and the excuse was irritating as well. They offered a 10% discount. What is that? Nothing. I came back early to relax and watch tv on my own and sleep. I only had one night. Had I known, I never would have stayed at that hotel. The excuse of weather was totally lame as well as the cable guide came on no problem and it was pretty clear the knew and that the cable was not coming in any time that evening or morning. I do not recommend this hotel. A 10% discount is laughable as well.

Hotel was in great location, rooms are nice and quiet. A constant experience with staying at the Ayres location(s) is that everything is managed by a third party - whether you have problems with parking charges, washing machine payment, etc.. if there is a problem, the customer is told to call the third party and rectify it themselves, which is poor service after spending money on the stay on the property as a whole.

Loved the outdoor fireplace. Pool was beautiful, even though it was too cold to swim. Breakfust was so good. Eggs Cooked to order. Will no foubt return!

Last year, I complained through this column. It was inconvenient because the bathroom shower in the room was not fixed. Surprisingly, a year later, I found out that I was staying in the same room during my stay last week, and I immediately checked the bathtub shower, oh my god! It was as it was. It was still unfixed. Isn't it really amazing. I stay at the Ayres hotel every time I visit California. But the composition of breakfast was the same as a year ago. The world is changing and developing, but this hotel remained the same. It just got old as if time had stopped. Most of these hotel-level hotels in the United States have the same breakfast. The hard work of the restaurant staff putting it on the plate(?) Only what has changed. This also seemed to be an event to get a tip, and it didn't look kind at all. It was annoying that they were talking loudly all the time during the meal. I only felt bitter at the hotel where the passion of not trying was dead. Most of the front desk staff were kind. I promise not to stay here again.

Cozy fireplace outside was so nice to sit around and sip wine while chatting with family. The complimentary breakfast was delicious, especially enjoyed the make your own waffles! King size bed was a plus however the mattress could be more comfortable. Sheets and comforter white and fresh but slightly scratchy. Breakfast was generous and the staff was lovely at the buffet. The woman at the front desk hates the public and it shows. Luckily, we didn't have to interact with her much. The room was outdated and damp but the AC worked beautifully. I was very thankful the window did open slightly for fresh air. Carpet in hotel rooms makes my skin crawl. The grounds were beautiful. Because of the location and price, we will go back but I will be better prepared.

We tossed the rest of what was on our plates in the trash. The room smelled like a dirty dog, and the hallway outside our room smelled like old packets of ketchup.

Our room was nice, however there was a live roach in the bathroom.

Staying here for business is great. The area is safe and clean. Having a complimentary breakfast each day and a happy hour to relax and unwind is absolutely wonderful. I appreciate the professionalism and care directed within the hotel.

Only complaint is low shower water pressure. Everything else was fantastic.

Everything else was okay but toilet in my room was extra Loud after your flush, to the extent that when I used it at night I could t go back to sleep because of the loudness of it refilling itself after usage.

Our room was nice, clean and comfortable. Only improvement that could be made in our room was the carpet was in pretty bad shape in some areas. We had 2 light bulbs that needed to be replaced as when you turned on the light it flicked a few times with a hum before turning on completely. During our stay the closest elevator was down for a day…they fixed it pretty fast. Breakfast was really good. Lots of hot options as well as cereal, yogurt and pastries. Would stay there again.

Air conditioning not working

Enjoyed just about everything but the cable TV service was one of the worse that I have had at a hotel. Very slow response and theTV guide didn’t indicate what show you were watching.

This is the perfect location for a get away and to visit the mall as well Bass Pro shop. The rooms were very clean and breakfast was unbelievable with made to order items

We stayed in Laguna Woods for a soccer tournament. We had rm # 238 and the room was humid. It had a mild musty odor. We were so exhausted from the day that we opened the window and went to bed. We were there less than 24 hours so it wasn’t a big deal. My daughter and son had rm#237 and their room was fine.

Everything about this hotel was great! The only hiccup was that we wanted to check in a little early and were told there is a $30 charge for that, but it was Labor Day weekend and they were pretty full. The hotel itself is immaculate, spacious, nice hot breakfast with a beautiful outside patio you can sit on, comfortable beds and linens. It is not in Laguna Beach proper but only 12-15 mins away usually depending on traffic. It was totally worth it to not pay Laguna Beach prices. We will definitely stay here again!

Beautiful patio, pool area with fireplace and dining tables.

AC is cold and smells good (I mean has no smell lol. Which is good.). The AC was rattling a little bit. The plastic cover was a little loose. I gently slid a wash rag in the gap of the cover. Silent now. Shower, shower head, sinks, toilet and mirrors are spotless and shower head is free from any buildup. Microwave and fridge in our room work well. Big bottles of body soap and hair stuff in the shower. Hand soap bar next to the bathroom sink feels good. Firm, but a smooth and clean finish when rinsed off. Lots of different lighting options in the room. A couple of lamps a couple of ceiling lights and a couple of reading lights in each bed. Lots of polite families enjoying the pool. It looks clean as well as the area around is well kept. Pillows are fluffy. Sheets are standard. They feel like a lower thread count, but they aren’t itchy. Just a little stiff. Bed is a medium firmness. You’ll press into it, but not sink into it. It’s what I prefer. Helps straighten my back out.

We had a nice stay at Ayres. We have found them to be a nice option for a pleasant stay. Evening reception was nice, location was convenient for our Laguna Festival of the Arts, breakfast was good, and outside pool/patio area was lovely.

I liked this hotel so much I extended my stay!

Quiet rooms

There was a problem on night 2 after we returned from an evening out we got in after 11 pm, prepared for bed and I felt a bug crawling on my arm, then another and another. When we got up and turned the lights on we saw multiple small black bugs that looked like ants with wings crawling on the pillows sheets and lamp shade. I called the front desk and the night audit answered as I was telling her the problem I noticed a live bug under the glass on the desk moving and then disappeared also what looked like larva or wings clustered under the glass. She moved us to another room and locked down that room and told me to come down and inform the manager in the morning. The manager comp'd the room and printed both receipts (see attached). However, on my credit card statement the $207.28 shows as an added charge on 8/18 bringing the balance on my credit card up to $691, then the $207.28 is removed bring the balance back to $483.90 (see attached) So where is the refund as indicated on the receipt? I am waiting a response from the Ayres Hotel management.

I got tired of being ripped off to stay in Laguna at overpriced hotels that haven't been updated in 20 years that don't even have an ocean view anyway.

We have stayed at this location a few times and it doesn’t disappoint. It is convenient to food, coffee, access and our family. I appreciate the free parking, easy accessibility of parking. Staff is always friendly and pleasant. The breakfast crew is amazing!

The room and scenery was perfect

Very nice hotel in a great area, restaurants and shops around you. The room was nice and quiet and clean. Love that they have a mini-fridge, microwave and even a little sink in the room at the coffee area. The breakfast in the morning was an added perk as well. Would definitely stay here again.

If you are looking for a hotel in the Laguna area that is close to the beach and shopping that won’t blow your budget then look no further then the Ayres in Laguna Woods. Our recent 3 night mid week stay was really enjoyable. The bed was very comfortable especially as compared to the Hilton properties. The staff was very friendly and the grounds and hotel are meticulously maintained. The extra breakfast perk of a personal omelette and the evening social hours (5 pm - 7 pm) were a step up in service for the price point. The Saw Dust festival was a 15 minute drive and there is ample parking in Lots 16 & 17 to catch the trolley to the festival, Pageant of the masters or the beach. Shopping in the area as mentioned was easily accessible and top shelf in choices. The pool and jacuzzi were very well maintained and very inviting. Kudos to the staff!

It was a great experience in every way!

Its a little dated, but very clean, decent mattress, lots of space, great work out room, jacuzzo and pool. Served free breakfast, choice of eggs until 10am, lots of other items. Excellent value.

It was a nice stay. The free breakfast was actually fresh, REAL eggs, unlike the crap they serve at Hilton. The staff was incredibly polite and the property is very clean.

Ayres is a lovely hotel! We stayed on the first floor and had a sliding glass door to the court yard and pool area. Breakfast was amazing and the gentleman who served eggs, etc. always had a smile on his face. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. I highly recommend this hotel for your next stay in Laguna!

The food was amazing… It was a free breakfast from 6 to 9 AM. The beds were totally comfortable.

The staff was very friendly, the personally made omelettes in the morning were delicious and loved sitting outside by the pool. A wonderful hotel!

Great location with food and grocery stores nearby. The outdoor area near the pool is charming. Relaxing atmosphere. Good breakfast, just too crowded. A continental style breakfast area would do. The omelette station is a nice addition, however the line is too long for what it is. That’s just me, other people seemed to enjoy it.

I was pleasantly surprised at the full complimentary breakfast. The staff at check-in front desk are friendly and helpful.

If the hotel addressed the horrible noise from the plumbing, this would be a nice place to stay, although they should train all their staff to be a little more guest friendly and attentive (check-in staff was friendly--but not a good last impression).

We had a wonderful stay! The hotel staff is very friendly, super helpful and professional. It’s in a quiet suburban neighborhood and the hotel is quaint, very well maintained and clean. The complimentary breakfast is outstanding-not continental. The pool and spa are wonderful and the gym is well appointed, with several treadmills/ellipticals/bikes/weights etc. We would stay here again, it’s a great find!

Hotel appears luxurious with nice plants around and inside. The gym was nice and usable. Pool looked good and people were using it. Breakfast was great. They have happy hours that serve snacks, beer and wine. Everything great except the most important aspect of a hotel: mattress! It sagged and was not comfortable.
