Location was good. It’s just 19 minutes to the Amtrak Station. Also near a shopping plaza with Starbucks. Very quiet room. We arrived late and at check- in we were given a “Third Floor” room. Then told the elevator was broken. We are in our 70’s, and found it unreal that the entire hotel was booked. We were given no assistance with our luggage. The carpet on the stairs was ragged, and the hand railing was very sticky. The bed was worn and lumpy, however we slept well as the room was very quiet.

Our first stay here was amazing however this second trip was not. The room was completely different from the room I booked and smelled like it hadn’t been cleaned yet. There were no towels in our bathroom, stains and hair in the bathtub and only 1 roll of toilet paper for a family of 4 staying for 3 days. The sheets were stained and smelled like a dog had just been there and there were actual roaches crawling out of the dresser and all around the microwave. The breakfast was good but that’s about the only good thing that came from this trip.
- 5/5
Everyone was silence minding your own business peaceful quiet the management was beautiful clean the air was smelling good harmful peaceful relaxful the setting was just right and my stay was great.
- 5/5
Staff were really sweet and helpful. We had the perfect stay.
- 3/5
Breakfast was good, comfy bed and toiletries were good as well. Elevator out, had us on the 3rd floor. TV didn't work the first night, had to have maintenance come to fix it. Drains (both shower and sink) had issues draining. Vending machines tap to pay was broken (on all 3 machines) so unless you have cash, you couldn't get anything.

Everything was wonderful, except for the elevator didn’t work. That’s my only complaint. Everything was clean stores restaurants right across the street. Everything great.

Very nice place to stay
- 5/5
This property is pet friendly so be aware of that when booking. The first room my family was given smelled like fresh dog urine and visibly had dog hair all over the furniture. My son is allergic to dogs severely so this room almost caused us to cancel our reservation however with the help of the extremely professional staff, we were able to get a room in a better location with more updated amenities. The rooms are a decent size and the bathroom is certainly something a woman would love. The best thing about this hotel is their breakfast. It is free and by far the best that I’ve had at any hotel I’ve stayed in within these past 10 years.
- 4/5
The hotel was nice, in a good location and clean. The free breakfast while not amazing, was a nice bonus. The downfall - the elevator stopped working after our first night. For the remaining 4 days we had to lug ourselves up 3 flights of stairs after being on our feet all day at a festival and of course had to carry all of our luggage down on the day of departure. There was no "sorry" offered from staff or anything.

- 5/5
clean, was able to check in early because we arrived very early in the location, very quite rooms, comfortable beds, good breakfast included
- 4/5
The hotel is across a strip mall, which has many restaurants. The swimming pool & hot tub had foliage in it. Perhaps you can ask the front desk to clear it up.
- 3/5
The room smelled like smoke and the room I reserved was not available and had to use a roll out bed instead of a standard bed I had paid for.
- 4/5
Breakfast was ok.
- 5/5
Yes this hotel is excellent. Staff is excellent and professional and helpful at all times. Breakfast is great. The only issue is you can hear people talking in their rooms. This hotel is fantastic but has thin walls. Also you can hear your own party using the restroom such as someone is going number 1 or maybe even number 2. I didnt hear anyone going number 2 but it might even be possible.
- 4/5
Great location. Easy on off access, friendly staff and clean.

Nice hotel. Great area.!My room needs some work. The shower was almost impossible to get on and off. The phone to the desk wasn’t working and the deadbolt lock didn’t work. There was no hair dryer in the room. The rooms otherwise are very nice.

The employees are honestly amazing. Unfortunately the hallways smell of smoke. The rooms are good sized, it would be nice if they could add a recliner or sofa bed.
- 5/5

- 5/5
I stay here a lot and it’s always a pleasant stay . Rooms are very clean staff is friendly and welcoming breakfast is great

Good parking lot space. The pool is not that big so, not sure how it would be during summer time
- 5/5
It was a great place
- 5/5
Staff was very nice and made me feel very welcome. The pillows were extra nice and I had a very relaxing stay. Will be back for Christmas.
- 3/5
Noisy location. Hallway smelled like stinky feet. Bed was uncomfortable. Everything else was mediocre. Would not stay here again.
- 5/5
The room was very clean nicely decorated and very comfortable. It was also in a quiet neighborhood, I did not hear any noise at all in the hall very restful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also delicious, thank you!
- 5/5
The staff were ready for me upon my arrive and assisted me with ease.
- 4/5
EXCELLENT STAFF, CLEAN, WELL-KEPT ROOMS, BREAKFAST WAS OK. ELEVATOR DOOR NEED REPAIR, ALMOST STICKS CLOSING AND VERY NOISY.
- 5/5
Our room was comfortable, the second floor was quiet. The ice machine worked, the vending machine worked. Housekeeping staff were respectful. Grounds were maintained and desk staff were efficient and friendly. Will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Yes great stay clean great people 👍
- 5/5
everything was good except the elevator, the door seems to stick closing and is very noisy closing, Needs repair or upgrade
- 5/5
Staff was good
- 3/5
Room was ok, facility could use some upgrades.
- 1/5
Staff is rude and the place is disgusting
- 4/5
The front desk lady was not the nicest to deal with. Most of the staff is quite pleasant and easy to get along with. I unfortunately didn’t catch her name but she was often rude or curt unnecessarily. Outside of her rudeness the place is very clean, quiet and a grocery store is easily walkable. Great place.

The breakfast had hair in it like they did it on purpose
- 4/5
Breakfast was good! Plenty of tables and staff was friendly.
- 2/5
There was no quality breakfast, no waffles or pancake, no much options
- 4/5
High point is the pool facility out front. Room rather cramped, breakfast was nothing special, but the staff was good, place was clean and check in and check out easy
- 2/5
Kids and people roaming the halls all night long. Cockroach spotted in my room. Gap under connecting door is open!! Breakfast was terrible quality with powdered eggs and juice so diluted I thought it was dirty water. Pastry was still frozen on the serving plate.
- 2/5
The hotel was not in god shape at all. It needs a lot of work. Website made it look much nicer than it was. The breakfast and coffee was not good. Will not be retuning.
- 5/5
Conveniently located near the John Muir National Historic Site, and right across the street from a number of restaurants, grocery store, and CVS, this was a great stay for us. The room was clean the kids loved the pool and hot tub, and the breakfast was delicious, with eggs, sausage, gravy, danishes, yogurt, cereal, and fruit. 10/10 would stay again.

I did not feel that it held up to a best Western standard. I felt like I was staying at a motel 6.
- 4/5
Good location. Rooms were clean. Problem getting television to work but everything else was good.
- 5/5
My favorite place. I wish I could live here
- 5/5
I’m okay
- 5/5
Cynthia at the front desk was the best!!! Professional, friendly, helpful, and accommodating.
- 5/5
The staff is awesome. I stayed at the Motel 6 previously, and it cost more and was filthy. I would reccomend this Best Western as the best hotel in the area to all friends and family members. Michael
- 5/5
Nice
- 2/5
If there was another option we would go there.
- 2/5
Elevator and 2nd Floor Hallways smelled dirty/unclean and smokey. The carpets and walls looked dirty. My room was surprisingly clean and smelled clean as well.
- 4/5
The hotel does not have the typical entrance to access the Reception area. There is not an area to park and enter. The two closest spaces are handicapped parking only. Despite both the bathroom and room appearing very clean, there was a small roach inside the rolled up bath mat.
- 3/5
The stay was fine but I upgrade from the two double bed to two queen beds, after check in we realized they gave us a Room with two full beds. When i asked at the front desk they assured us that room was two queens. Weve stayed at other places and my daughters have queen beds these beds were not Queen size.
- 5/5
Nice place
- 4/5
The location is nice. Easy ride to different locations. The breakfast was lacking and the same from day to day.
- 3/5
Location was great and from the outside the hotel appeared very nice. The front desk was extremely friendly, but unfortunately, I had to change rooms because there were roaches in the first room so that just kind of left a bad taste in my mouth from the beginning not sure if I would stay here again
- 4/5
Clean room
- 5/5
Great property and good location
- 2/5
Elevator wasn’t working. Carpet old and dirty
- 5/5
This is an excellent hotel to stay at. Clean, quiet friendly staff excelleny continental breakfast and located in a great neighborhood.
- 4/5
Clean area, Queen beds are more comfortable then the double beds. No waffles anymore but they did have oatmeal and make your own yogurt along with cheesy eggs and sausage.
- 5/5
Nice and quiet, the lady at the lobby she's great, there's a shopping center across the street.

Pros: The front desk staff was very friendly. Nice breakfast selection. The bed was relatively comfortable. Cons: The upper floors smelled very musty. We kept smelling cigarette smoke that we thought was coming from the AC unit in our room but I think it was actually the curtains. There was also an oddly large gap between the bottom of the room door and the floor. I shoved a towel in the gap at night. The jacuzzi was also freezing. Would have been nice if there was a sign posted before hopping in. It's definitely a location for travelers, for a quick over-nighter. I was disappointed in the cost per night vs. the overall quality of the property. Greatful for a friendly front desk staff and free breakfast though!
- 3/5
My stay was okay. The hotel cannot tell which employees are going to get drunk and disorderly in the hallways for a few nights. All the ladies that worked behind the counter were friendly and helpful! Upon discharge there was a man that got extremely rude with me
- 3/5
Friendly staff, very helpful. what I did not like was that fact that breakfast was changed. I did not like the breakfast this time. There was more options before. There was Almond milk, yogurts single cups different flavors, there was waffles, there use to be French toast stick, apart from Eggs and Sausage links. Breakfast was horrible.
- 5/5
This hotel is not bad for the pricing and ita comfort. I come every other week to stay here for work, and it does the job of giving me tge rest i need for the 1 night stay. This place is a soild place for coming and going.
- 5/5
Great
- 4/5
We intentionally stayed because they have a hot tub. I have back issues and enjoy hit tubs. But unfortunately it was closed. Not very happy about that. If you are wanting to use pool or hot tub call first to make sure they are functioning. If I did Ibwould have saved a lot of money because I coukd have stayed atva family members home.
- 4/5
Wonderful experience except for the confusion on the 21 day policy.
- 4/5
Qiet comfortable and efficient
- 5/5
The location was convenient and the property was old but safe.
- 3/5
The property is directly off the highway, situated on a corner with a stoplight. If you are sound sensitive like I am there is no getting away from traffic sound. And while the staff was fantastic trying to find me adquiere room the hotel was old enough that even the floors squeaked horribly with the folks above me tromping over my head. Ultimately I left and found a quieter hotel. But if sound doesn’t bother you the hotel was neither good nor bad.
- 2/5
Rude checkin. It felt like we were annoying her. Room reeked of smoke, with no smoke free alternative. We wont be back
- 4/5
Wound up staying 9 nights due to illness. Staff was friendly, understanding, and accommodating. Price per night was good value. Bathtub did not have stopper to allow filling tub. Breakfast could have had more variety; scrambled eggs and sausage links every day. Sometimes hard to get new towels.
- 4/5
Great value! Friendly, helpful staff…
- 5/5
Good value, rooms clean, good service, pretty good breakfast
- 5/5
Good
- 3/5
Check in was simple. Room was ok. Could use more blankets or a bedspread. There was a splatter of something on the ceiling over bed. Breakfast not as good as it was last year with less options and same thing every day. Noisy neighbors late into the night.
- 5/5
Great staff very helpful
- 2/5
The breakfast bar area was awesome and well stocked. Food was good.
- 3/5
We booked a room with two double beds and they put us in a room with one king bed.
- 2/5
Spa was not working dirty bed was hard as a rock shower was cold the hot the cold not study hot water breakfast was good just some homeless pepole living in thare car in the parking lot eating instead.
- 3/5
Loved the breakfasts
- 5/5
We were very comfortable. Ended up adding a 2nd room and they matched the pricing. Staff was super friendly. Next trip to Martinez, this will be where we stay.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and courteous. I live in Pasadena and when I come up to the Walnut Creek area, this is my preferred hotel. Thank you.
- 5/5
Last time that I went there wasn’t a pleasant experience, but this time the staff was super professional and friendly. The lounge was decorated nicely with a valentines theme. They even had cookies and popcorn for the guest! The room had all of the accessibility features and my mother was comfortable. Minus one rude guest on the elevator it was definitely a 180! My only request is to have enough towels in the room for two guest if you book for two guest. I was able to quickly rectify that issue and got towels instantly.
- 3/5
Everything as staff was great but our room was great our fan didnt work
- 3/5
Ok
- 4/5
Like any other dogs, when a dog hears someone nearby, they bark, and since the ice machine was so close to the room, it made my dog jumpy. If that's not enough, a guest who checked in later that night on the upper floor was walking in their room, and the floorboards were squeaking so severely that it was impossible to rest. Luckily, they went to sleep shortly after, and the squeaking stopped. The Carpet was worn out and had bumps in it, and my dog was restless, probably due to the strong past dog odor in the room.
- 4/5
Clean and easy on off freeway.
- 3/5
Room was comfortable and clean, and area around hotel safe with dining options. Hotel lobby, hallway and room smelled strongly of weed. Thin walls and noisy neighbors made for difficulty sleeping well.
- 2/5
Mattresses were in terrible condition and should have been replaced a couple of years ago. The room had a strong unpleasant odor. The toilet only flushed intermittently.
- 1/5
This place is awful! The staff is super nice, but that’s about the only thing this place has going for it. The first room I checked in for had poop on the toilet rim and smelled so strongly of urine that I had to be moved. The next room had a musty ash tray smell that was bearable with the window open. Everything looked clean but it was so dingy and
- 4/5
We've stayed at John Muir hotel in Martinez before and noticed they have done some nice upgrades to the bathroom. We always feel comfortable there and it suits our needs. Unfortunately the elevator wasn't working and we had to carry our luggage upstairs. Thank goodness it was only one floors. The staff is very friendly and it's a good location, close to a shopping plaza.
- 5/5
Our room was so nice and comfortable. Very happy it has the spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower . The gentleman at the front desk is so courteous and welcoming. I just can not say one negative thing about our stay here. I highly recommend the Best Western John Muir Inn in Martinez Ca.
- 4/5
Friendly employees close to shopping center and nice area
- 2/5
Staff assistant manager needed Elevators broken I am 76 with suitcase not happy but a maintenance man came to help me.
- 3/5
Really below average stay. Could feel the springs in the bed. The facilities felt dated and old. The hot tub was the main attraction but it was closed for the season? Super lame.
- 5/5
Clean room. Easy check-in. Friendly breakfast staff
- 3/5
Breakfast was good, but it felt a bit uncomfortable having staff stand there watching you take food. Tv wasn’t hooked up and the microwave and television just went out. The maintenance man thought it was a power cord issue and couldn’t find one so we had to relocate to another room in the evening. My mom and I had to pack up all of our stuff including her Walker to find another room that was on a different floor. The room wasn’t easy to locate and the front desk person had to help us find it. He also had a problem finding the room. The second room was a better room. The original accessible room didn’t have a shower chair. The front desk manager lacked people skills when she was presented with our issues. Her focus was on the timing of us changing rooms oppose to the accessibility issues we had with changing rooms. There was a guest who was hostile with another front desk attendant who chose to engage in the disagreement oppose to diffuse the issues out of the integrity of other guest or as a representation of leadership. My mom and I were uncomfortable as people are unpredictable these days and that guest was highly upset. As a professional corporate trainer who specializes in leadership training I can say there are many areas of improvement that needs to be made in management and accessibility inclusion. I’d love to teach!
- 2/5
Hallways smelled faintly of urine, gaps in curtains amd door let in outside light, and the door seemed as if it had been kicked in sometime in the past. Cheap place.
- 3/5
Clerk needs to be more proactive and a little nicer to customers
- 5/5
Great location.
- 2/5
Front desk service nonexistent
- 5/5
Parking is free and it’s a good place to stay .
- 5/5
It was great
- 2/5
I was very disappointed with my stay at this Best Western. The room was outdated and poorly maintained, with tiles falling apart. The breakfast room was dirty, and the food was cold, lacking in quality and variety. Most staff were friendly, but the kitchen manager was especially rude and unhelpful, which added to the unpleasant experience. Additionally, the hot tub was out of order, and the pool was dirty and filled with leaves. Overall, my experience fell far below expectations.

- 2/5
This property is one of the only one's in Martinez. I arrived late at night with an open mind, but found loiterers in the neighboring parking lot that made me uncomfortable. It looked like some people who lived out of their cars. At the property, my bedspread had a poop stain. The second night someone was cooking in the inside hallway next to my room on the carpet. When I tried to report it, I rang the front desk three times and no one answered. The management team didn't seam concerned the next morning when I tried to report it. My last night there, I needed to leave at 3 am. Someone was sitting on a chair on the second floor when I came in at 10 pm and was still there at 3 am! I think it might have been someone off the streets with a bag next to them. Safety is not their primary concern-that was a problem for me.
- 4/5
Really comfortable bed and close to places to eat/markets.
- 4/5
Good accommodation, good breakfast, easy parking, convenient to state roads and country lanes… at a fair price!
- 1/5
The parking lot felt unsafe, frankly creepy. The room reeked of cigarette smoke, many people clearly live there. I did not stay
- 5/5
Really great
- 5/5
The food was great the agents were friendly and i will be returning on my next trip. I would advise for vleaner pools but everything else was perfect!
- 2/5
The place is old and run down. There were black beetle type bugs on the bathroom floor. Will not stay there again.
- 3/5
It was good, the beds absolutely suck and the pillows are lumps of cotton. I feel bad for the older folk.
- 4/5
Great breakfast every morning
- 4/5
They have a great all you can eat breakfast ever morning from 5:30am to 10am
- 4/5

Rooms were clean and comfortable, staff was polite and professional. Breakfast was pretty good as well! Over all we had a good experience.
