Friends were visiting so I booked 2 rooms through Expedia. I use Expedia all the time and never had an issue. Expedia charged out the reservation. The owner refused to honor the Expedia reservation and charged me full price and completely disregarded the payment. I had no choice but to pay as every other hotel was sold out in the area. I also watched him walk the property and treat hotel employees badly. Expedia should drop this hotel as well as AAA. DONT STAY HERE!! You should stay elsewhere, even if it costs more.

The area looked nice and safe, the room was spacious and clean, the breakfast (cereals, oatmeal, milk, coffee, and orange juice) was suitable for us and pretty good for the price. We did not need air conditioning, so we did not even try to turn it on, but we opened the window to let fresh air in; we both really liked it. One of the best things is that check in starts at 10:00 am; it was just great! The parking is large; if you need public transportation, there are at least two bus stops just next to the hotel. I wish there was a coffee or tea pot in the room and a hair dryer in the bathroom, but I understand it might be too much for the price we paid. However, a couple of hooks for clothes or towels in the bathroom could be affordable for the business and helpful for the customers. There is no elevator, which may not even be necessary for the two story building, especially if your luggage is not heavy. The front desk receptionist (or manager) kindly offered to help us with the luggage. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in the Heart O’Chicago Motel, and if we take another trip to Chicago, we’ll most likely stay there again.
- 5/5
Great stay, only slight disappointment was the continental breakfast offering. Only serial and oatmeal.
- 5/5
This is an EXCELLENT no frills affordable place to stay. Very well maintained and well run place. Just to set expectations, it is dated and off the beaten path, but I HIGHLY recommend this hotel.
- 3/5
Room was clean and staff was helpful, but room was extremely smelly of stale cigarettes and body odor. Good hot water. Not too noisy.
- 3/5
The property is definitely aging. The rooms could use a refresh and upgrade to the amenities. The hotel stated it had breakfast in the morning and all that was available was cereal and a pot of coffee.

Not much. The location was close to, you know, I got some water. You know, the appointment i had There were constant sirens going off. There were people standing in front of our door talking loudly 1112 o'clock at night. The ice machine was out. There was no breakfast as advertised. The bed didn't have a fitted sheet on it. In the pad, the pundit was dirty
- 1/5
I arrived around 11pm and the check in was closed with a message of "back in 5 minutes" along with a sign saying "Air conditioning out". 15-20 minutes later someone showed up. the breakfast coffee was tiny foam cups w no lid, find your own milk/sugar and can't drive with them.
- 4/5
Great bang for you buck! For they money, you really can't go wrong. As long as you want for breakfast is cereal, I would recommend it. They could offer more for the continental breakfast but again, when you compare to other area hotels, you can't really argue with these guys that they shouldn't feel obliged to offer a full breakfast at the excellent rates they charge.

We checked in, then learned the air conditioner was not working, the room appeared poorly maintained, front desk staff had no solutions for us, and would not refund our money, we checked out the same day as checked in and went to a clean, comfortable hotel.
- 1/5
The location was pretty good (about a mile walk to Andersonville) and the cleaning staff was very friendly, doing a good job. Parking was good. No air conditioning even though the weather was warm--in the 80's--the front desk person said they had not turned it on for the complex yet. No hair dryer in room and had to ask for it at the front desk. The window had no screen on it--just a grate that had been there for awhile. The noise from the street migrated to the rooms. The bathroom had no towel bars and the faucet leaked...the toilet leaked after flushing it few times. The bedspreads had holes in them which looked like they were caused by cigarettes. There was only one person at the front desk who I thought was pleasant. The breakfast was lacking and the coffee was weak (my guess is they saved money by not putting the required amount of grounds into the basket before making it).

Close to Wrigley. Themed hotel
- 3/5
It was close to Chicago with free parking. It looks a bit dated. Maybe change bed covers.

I didn't have a long stay, but it was an enjoyable place! Like a little time capsule without being run down. Will stay here again!

The location was perfect for Andersonville. Parking is free, which was a big perk. The rooms are olds but very clean.

The bathroom window (which faces the alley) has a broken frame, so it does not close. The outside window security bars are loose. So, someone could easily climb inside. Since the window didn’t completely shut, the bathroom was about 30 degrees when I went to take a shower. Then I kept complaining about the 2-3 drunk people next door. Loud as F. I complained, but they kept it up. I jerryrigged the bathroom window. A real Macgyver job. Also, the first room I reserved had a bad tv and the heat had been left off for long time. Very cold.

This is an older YET VERY WELL KEPT motel . Think Holiday Inn and Howard Johnson 70s era. If you are the type of person that likes to hang around the motel room all day then this is not the place for you. It does have direct entrance from outside but parking lot is vetry secure and I never felt unsafe or felt unsafe leaving my car parked here when I took the train downtown. There is a 24hour bus(Clark St bus route 22) a block away and the rapid Transit Red line is a 7 or 8 minute bus ride away via the number 84 Peterson bus. I like to walk so I actually walked form the motel to the Red Line which took about 15 minutes. My only complaint is the wallas are a bit thin considering when this was built but luckily my neighbors weren't TOO noisy.
- 3/5
If all you are looking for is a place to sleep or rest and you don’t care about bells and whistles…then this vintage motel is perfect. The room was exceptionally clean but dated…we brought our own pillows thankfully because the motels are very thin and small. Besides that no complaints…already rebooked for June for a music festival in Chicago.

There was an altercation below in the parking lot that the police had to show up for. Ok for a bed to sleep in but i would not stay there with family or kids.

- 3/5
It was my second time staying at this hotel, the location and easy parking are very convenient, but both times there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke in the room. Even though there was a sign in the room prohibiting smoking both bed covers had burn halls in them and while trying to plug something in the outlet under the bedside table I found an old cigarette butt in the back of the shelve. Not sure there will be a third time for me to stay there because when I got home all my clothes smelled like cigarettes (and I don’t smoke). If it wasn’t for the very strong smell, I’d say what you pay is what you get (considering the prices for other hotels in Chicago).
- 5/5
Great stay, no complaints.

- 1/5
Not safe to stay here as an AFAB person... nothing worked and we left because we felt unsafe and they refused to give us a refund
- 2/5
Sketchy but cheap
- 5/5
Older motel, 50s/60s era, super clean, super safe, great parking. TV is small and breakfast is a "cereal bar," but other than that: you are getting what you pay for, and the online pics and descriptions are accurate. Will stay again. It's a great neighborhood, and you cannot beat the price.
- 3/5
The "breakfast" here is minimal. There's a coffee machine and some cereal and they were out of milk. Calling this a provided breakfast is a little misleading.
- 3/5
Not a lot of options at all in this area if attending a concert at The Riviera. Booked this after reviewing mixed ratings. Old motor lodge, dated decor and bedding. Room was clean but this is bare bones for amenities. Desk staff nice. Continental breakfast was the bare minimum; the coffee fresh and adequate quality.
- 4/5
Nice workers and some breakfast but my TV didn’t work well and a lot of police noice every night
- 5/5
What a cute old time motel! Perfect for an overnight stay after a concert!
- 3/5
The breakfast was almost nonexistent. On the first morning, the only option was cereal in styrofoam bowls. No coffee. No tea. No bread. No juice. On the next two mornings, coffee was available.
- 2/5
Stayed here a few times but time we saw bugs.
- 5/5
Love it
- 3/5
Loud outside at night
- 5/5
The motel overall was ok . It could use a bathroom redo very old and room could use new carpet and updated. The TV wouldn't come on. But overall it was good. If I would come back to Chicago I believe I would rent there again
- 5/5
This motel is always very cozy and clean..always! 😎
- 3/5
It's really a motel and the desk clerk was very friendly. The room was very clean but needed updating. The comforters were polyester and kind of icky, although clean. I just think for the price we paid, which was comparable to other budget hotels in the Chicago area, that they could upgrade and it would make a big difference. We only needed to stay there for one night because we were dropping off our son to college, as we're other guests. It was very close to the college, which was convenient. It's also very close to Clark St., which has a lot of great restaurants and we found two within a mile that were excellent. The neighborhood immediately around the the motel was a little rough, and a little loud at night, but overall it suited our needs. They do have parking which is free and very convenient. They also have breakfast, which I believe is complimentary, but we had other plans for breakfast so we didn't get a chance to check it out.
- 3/5
Would not recommend
- 3/5
Bed was fine, tv worked and bathroom got the job done. The free parking was very nice! Kind of just a sketchy vibe since it’s a motel but safe enough! Got what we paid for and we’re happy about that :)
- 4/5
Solid motel of yesteryear, I'd strongly recommend you bring along ear plugs or just turn on the fan for background (white) noise. Houskeeping A+ every day.
- 5/5
This is not a hotel option to pass on. The hotel is close to transit so getting to downtown and to a Cubs game is easy to do. There are alsom many dining and options and small uniqure shops along Clark and Broadway.
- 4/5
Plus, if you are attending an event that is train accessible - you can walk the two blocks to the brand new train station and leave the car behind (and save 60 dollars in parking downtown). One downside - the breakfast is a joke. Cereal and apples - that was it. Sad. There are many good places to eat in the area and rather than paying the 3 dollar charge for vending machine water - I walked into the neighborhoods and picked up some items at a local store.
- 4/5
Walking into my room was like walking into a typical movie set. The room as spacious, smelled nice and as clean and organized. It's location leads itself to a loud outside and the blackout curtains did help with the morning light.
- 5/5
absolutely clean and amazing
- 1/5
Staff person who checked me in was unpleasant to put it mildly. The room was an adjoining room so I could hear everything going on next door. Then around 9:00 at night it sounded like the party next door was trying to unlock and open the adjoining door on their side... this went on for a while until it sounded as though they slid something in front of the door. I could hear several arguments outside during the night. I had an UberEats delivery that was delivered to the wrong address but when I went outside to look for the order at the unit shown in the confirmation delivery picture it was gone. A complete waste of $140... spend your money elsewhere.
- 5/5
Exactly what I needed for my stint in Chicago - a clean bed, good shower and a safe place to leave my car. The only issue was check out - at 11, but my room card stopped working at 930. But I was allowed back in easy enough. Thank you!!
- 2/5
Bed was extremely uncomfortable Parking being included was nice

Had super clean windows and guy at front desk seemed cool. Not as u
- 3/5
Although this property is centrally located, especially for meeting with relatives, it has seen better days as witnessed by the non-smoking room that recalled of an ash tray. If you crave an old motel in a scary neighborhood this place is for you.
- 1/5
This is not just a hotel, it’s a housing unit. Most of the rooms are people living there full time. It was incredibly dangerous. The stairs are facing the back of the hotel I’m a dark hallway and there were people gathered there and drug deals happening all hours of the night. There were people walking around and knocking on doors all night long. People were gathered in the parking lot by the trash cans (which are in the parking lot) all afternoon and night. The room had a horrendous smell. Bed was incredibly uncomfortable. I was genuinely scared to be there. Only stayed one night and left as soon as the sun came out in the morning. BE VERY CAUTIOUS IF STAYING HERE!!
- 5/5
Great location for Edgewater and Andersonville. Convenient to several popular gay bars. Inexpensive for adults, but probably not recommended for families.

The room was clean, but there was only about half a roll of toilet paper in the bathroom, and no spares anywhere. Housekeeping did not replenish it when they cleaned. Towels were stocked well, and there were multiple soaps and shampoo's in the restroom. The wireless never worked for me, so I had to use my phone as a hot spot for my laptop. I got back from my event at 11pm to find the room freezing cold (there is no a/c unit, by the way), and when I called the office I was told that the heat and been broken for a week already, and he had no idea when they were fixing it. I had to wear my sweats and a long sleeve to sleep. There was no mention of this when I checked in, but there was a sign when I checked out saying "No heat, no refunds". When I was packing my car, I got locked out and had to go to the office for them to re-do my card so I could get the rest of my items. I guess they stop access when you leave on the check-out day, even if it's not 11am yet. Again, guy was not nice. The overnight guy is nice, though. I won't stay here again. Last resort only.

john at the front desk was rude and had the worst customer service i’ve ever experienced. don’t do it folks.

Great place to stay that is friendly and clean!!

My husband could not breath freely m the smell in the room we didn’t stay
- 1/5
Front desk closed for over 3 hours in the afternoon. Heat, didn’t get above 63. Terribly noisy traffic intersection.
- 2/5
The best thing is free parking. No heat. Given space heater to use.
- 4/5
Check-in staff was abrupt and rude. Another potential customer even left and went to a different motel/hotel. This same staff member was more pleasant on check-out.
- 1/5
I’d rather not comment on this motel the only positive I can comment is the front desk staffs are nice that’s all.
- 3/5
Over all not awful, room was clean and well kept. Turned the ac on before we went out so the room would be cool when we got back, instead we walked into what felt like a sauna. Front desk said when it gets cold out it just pushes hot air and gave us a box fan. Which we had to go back and switch out because it didnt work. The staff were kind, and the lot was nice and private. Check in was easy, and it was nice and quiet. Bathroom was cute with vintage pink tiles.
- 4/5
Good value with parking but not glam. Clean but stuffy smell.
- 3/5
Desk clerk (John) was rude and got my guest kicked out of the room.
- 3/5
This is the fourth time I've stayed here, but the noise is out of control. I don't remember it being this bad previously. The vehicles are racing North Ridge all night. Guests returning late at night are loud in the lot instead of going into their rooms. The last straw was the garbage truck picking up the dumpsters before 5:00 AM. It took them a good 20 minutes for two dumpsters.
- 4/5
This facility offers excellent value for the money.
- 2/5
Way to noisy and bed way to uncomfortable
- 3/5
Gentleman behind the desk was very rude. Very demanding. Did not greet my fiancée and I
- 5/5
Very close to work location. The updates that have been made are nice.
- 5/5
Mr Zone was the most helpful front desk clerk I have had the pleasure of working with. From Paris to London to Tokyo, nobody had set a standard like Mr Zone. He left no question unanswered and turned a long and frustrating day into a calming experience that set the tone for my evening stay in Chicago. This unassuming, historic, and quaint motel should be on anyone’s bucket list in Andersonville.
- 5/5
This hotel is a great option if you do not want to stay downtown. The Edgewater and Andersonville areas nearby have many great bars and restaurants as well as unique shopping.
- 5/5
Great price, parking, chill and nothing shady going on. Felt safe. Beds were comfy and the room was clean.
- 3/5
It was ok, clean but a bit rundown and service at the front desk was rude
- 5/5
Always great when I take a trip to Chicago and staying at this hotel. They are constantly improving the property, rooms, service etc. and that is reason enough to keep coming back.
- 5/5
The manager at the front desk was very professional and accommodating. He helped me a lot during my stay and I am very grateful to him for that. The hotel was very clean. great location. Great pricing. will definitely stay there again!
- 1/5
No internet
- 5/5
Nice and affordable
- 4/5
The price is reasonable for a location not by the airport. Traffic was terrible in the area, but that's kinda normal in Chicago.
- 4/5
It's cheap no frills motel, so don't come in with your expectations high. But it's clean and safe, and you won't find yourself in danger staying here.
- 5/5
Great hotel in a convenient area. So many restaurants and shops nearby. The Metra line very close
- 1/5
We just turned around and ask for a refund, we'll se if we get it back, I have my doubts. This is a per hour hotel, if you know what I mean. Dont waste your money here, unless you need it for a few hours, at your own risk.
- 5/5
Always a pleasure to stay here, never any issues
- 4/5
This is a no-frills motel. It was probably built in the 1950s as a roadside motel and the decor has been maintained. A very clean property, and parking is free and inside the motel courtyard - a wonderful convenience as parking in Chicago can be a nightmare. Starbucks and White Castle are close by, and the nearby Andersonville neighborhood has a lot of nice restaurants and stores. Again, if you are looking for plush towels, Egyptian cotton sheets, and other nice amenities this probably isn't the place for you. But, if you are looking for a cozy, clean room in a safe neighborhood give this a shot.
- 1/5
The hotel air conditioner was out of order. This information was not provided upon check in. I was told by the management system that just need to open the windows to get fresh air. They did offer to refund me 50% after I was there for two hours. The management was interacting appropriately to handle this matter.
- 4/5
It was a good deal and great location for me
- 3/5
Front desk employee was rather rude at check-in. Room was fine. Served it’s purpose for us.
- 1/5
Property is old which is fine, but the front desk was extremely slow, did not have my reservation, then did everything through paperwork and file folders so it took a while. The room had no heat. When I reported it, I was told that none of the units had heat or cooling. It is 40 degrees at night and the room opens directly onto the street so heat should be available.
- 1/5
When I checked in the staff member at the front desk threw my ID and card around. Yelled at me for writing my name down on the reservation instead of my dads (even though I was the one who paid for the room and set up the whole reservation). He was also angry at me for being 20 and not 21, but that wasn’t a requirement on the Expedia listing when I booked the room. The beds were uncomfortable. There didn’t seem to be an AC so we had to leave a window cracked open the entire night. There were stains on the pillow cases. It’s also just a very noisy side of town. The daytime staff was much friendlier though.
- 1/5
Our TV volume was not working. Employee came to look at it, said there was nothing they could do about it, and it was bad to sleep with the TV on anyways. He then proceeded to argue with me about how much they would refund us. We won't be staying there again.
- 3/5
Staff was friendly, the room wasnt too bad. Only complaint is the noise from the road. Its a busy road and almost every half hour sirens from cops, fire trucks and ambulance. Along with cars honking at each other.
- 4/5
Convenient to Loyola of Chicago campus.
- 4/5
Accidentally locked myself out of my room and the man working was nice about having to let me back in.
- 3/5
The worst thing was there was a constant noise every morning around 4 am just outside the window of my room from someone loading heavy stuff on a truck or something. It was very loud. Every night it woke me up around that time. I stayed for 6 nights and didn’t have a good sleep even for one night. Other than that the place was clean with very basic things. I think it was a bit expensive for the overall experience. Later, I found that I could have rented a 1 bed apartment with all amenities for the same price.
- 5/5
The room was clean and tidy and the staff was nice.
- 4/5
Was going to give the property just two stars, but they’re in the middle of a slight remodel (not sure if the extent but we got a new tv in the room during our stay), so I feel like maybe I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that it’ll be less mediocre. That said, it’s about as low tech as you can get it the 21st century. The WiFi network didn’t even connect in our room. Old fixtures in the bathroom. No USB plugs. Just kinda meh, and the price reflects that.
- 4/5
It was clean but outdated. Better Smart TV with access to Roku would still be cheap
- 3/5
Nice, clean property and room and comfortable beds. It is old school and very basic, but for the price in the area and free parking, it is fine. No frills, but clean and safe and that is most important
- 5/5
This is an older motel. It is very clean and it is great for staying a night or two. This is fairly close to The Riviera Theater and I will stay here again the next concert that I go to in Chicago.
- 3/5
Desk guy was a little brusque but not a big deal. Breakfast included should have been coffee included. The breakfast spread was dry cereal and instant oatmeal. But no utensils, bowls, milk or hot water anywhere to be found. No worries, there's an IHOP down the street.
- 3/5
Like a lot of reviews mentioned it is outdated, little to no amenities. A little scetchy about cleanliness, but ok for the price. Lots of lighting in car park which was good. Staff could be more welcoming. Clerk at check in was very rude and short of patience. But overall ok for the price. Not noisy. Ease of getting Uber/lyft.
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
We had a great stay. It was just for 1 night after a concert at Wrigley Field. Heart O Chicago is an older hotel but it was very clean and close to public transportation. If your not familiar with big city neighborhoods you may say the neighborhood is bad but it's truly not. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat
- 3/5
The location was great in walking distance to red line. The price was great and it was really clean. The interiors are dated and television. For the price as expected. Parking was free which is a bonus. The service was rude. The continental breakfast was a joke
- 2/5
The hotel room had only one window and it directly faced a walkway for other people staying at the hotel. The choice of either privacy or daylight. It would’ve been nice to have a share curtain so you could still have daylight and privacy. The air conditioner did not seem to work during my stay.
- 5/5
Nice area, property is showing its age but is still a great place with great workers.
- 4/5
If you're looking for more bells and whistles (there's no fridge, pool, or Netflix), this place isn't for you. But if want a place that feels like it's run by family, give it a try.
- 3/5
Stayed for 2 nights when in town for Cubs games. The room was ok. No continental breakfast as advertised. No coffee on site. No fridge or microwave in room. The staff member I checked in with was rude and angry. The plus was it was an easy drive to anywhere we needed to go and parking was free. You could definitely do better, but you could do worse.
- 4/5
But they have quit serving the Continental breakfast they advertise
- 4/5
The air conditioning could be better. Otherwise I loved that it was a short walk from the L seemed safe.
- 4/5
Nothing unique okay room with rather high price for a weekday check in but it is what it is
- 2/5
The check in was a comical fiasco. The completely overwhelmed clerk was arguing with 2 other walk in people when I arrived about their rooms. Months ago I had requested a non smoking double room on first floor. After a flurry of key exchanges I ended up in a smoking room. Very unpleasant.

This hotel is neat and clean but the room we had needs a major overhaul. The beds both felt like they came over on the Mayflower and the hand towels/washcloths were basically sand paper. Also, would it be so difficult to put up a few hooks on the walls for towels and toiletry bags? I saw another reviewer mention this and it would be a cheap and effective upgrade to the functionality of the bathroom. Our sink plug was down and drained at a trickle so that was interesting to navigate through also. I live off grid in a school bus with better functioning plumbing fixtures. However, for the price when compared to other hotels in the area, I’d stay here again even if they didn’t upgrade one thing. So, you’ve got that going for you, Heart O Chicago. Thanks for a cheap and clean stay for the DNC.

The place is dated, but clean. The service is organized, friendly and efficient. Great location. Starbucks right beside it, too. I'll stay again.

Great weekday price. Staff was great. Surrounding area was a little ghetto....like so many others....white castle after 10pm is not a wise decision

The convenience and cleanliness can't be beat for the price.

A good location at a great price and free parking. Staff is nice too. You can easily get the Red line, the Clark bus and the Metra so you can get around the city with no problem. The hotel was clean and the beds & bath are fine. It gets a little noisy in the morning, but its Chicago, Thats to be expected.

Great location and friendly, accommodating staff. Rooms were clean.

On a weekend when all of the downtown hotels were 2 to 3 times more expensive, this was a great alternative.

Definitely falls into the no frills category, but I've never experienced a room that was dirty or uncomfortable in any way. This hotel is close to many dining options and is close to rail or bus transportation making getting around without a car, easy. It can get a bit noisy sometimes because of the nearby fire station.

I stayed here in the 90s, when friends and I came up for Pride and Market Days. Sad turn of events that now you can expect lots of shouting, fighting, pounding and slamming of doors, and all manner of awful behavior from super sketchy "clientele". Someone could save this place, restore its dignity, make it a boutique motel, and make a killing. Parking alone makes it a deal.
