The hotel is in a prime location, close to many attractions, but the rooms are generally small, outdated, and in need of maintenance. Guests frequently complain about issues with air conditioning, cleanliness, and amenities not working as expected.

The room was small, slightly dated but clean. The staff were helpful and check-in was quick and smooth. Its location is great, walking distance from Times Square. Considering its location and room price, it would be a good choice!

Over and above the terrible attitudes of the staff at this hotel. They are actively scamming guests by charging a $570 smoking fine stating they have a report saying we smoked in the room. Neither my Husband or I smoke! When going back and looking at other reviews, they clearly use this tactic as a money making scheme as it has happened to others. They have trapped guests by including this fine in the Terms of booking, but as non-smokers you would not think twice about signing them.

Great location but shocking room. Blind didn’t close fully so daylight from very early morning. Tiny bed, water damaged floor and door in the very small WC and had to shower in cold water. Nearly $300 for the pleasure.

However, the property is run down and upkeep must be stepped up. The decor, interiors, furniture, and rooms including entry doors show heavy wear and desperately need maintenance. It is simple and dated. Service was a mixed bag. A few male front desk staff were unaccommodating and unwilling to problem solve disappointing given NYCs laws on reasonable accommodations for disabilities. Luckily, Sunny at the front desk was a lifesaver. She was helpful, considerate, and found a solution when others said nothing could be done. She even credited some billing since we spent extra money to adjust conditions our first couple of days. Also, Amy in housekeeping was wonderful she accommodated our schedule, took care of everything, and was always friendly and smiling. What the hotel lacks in aesthetics, it makes up for in location, specific standout staff, and price to cost ratio. If similar or better pricing is offered, I would stay here again.

In a great location to Time Square. Huge selection of Restaurants nearby. Area is great. Property is poorly maintained..All of the Ice machines were either gone or out of order which was no good with no fridges in the room. We were put on Level 5 and the noise from the street was horrible,we asked to be move and they were very good and moved us to the 9h floor which was so much better. It's a pity that they haven't maintained the property.Overall stay was alright.

3 out of the 5 night stay was luke warm / cold shower. The lighting is either bright with main light or not light enough using the side lights (one of these wasn’t working for the first 2 nights). The location is great, but the hotel is very tired, the carpets are completely worn. Overall the hotel was ok for the price paid but I wouldn’t stay there again

The most disappointing hotel i ever booked in booking.com. I do not recommend to anyone. Is more like 1 star instead of the 4star rating. First night i had to change rooms because i had a barking dog on the same corridor that would not stop barking. Air conditiong is fake, doesn’t even blow air and room very noise from outside equipment. In the room they changed me into, there was a fake AC control on the wall. Hot as hell.

The bed was comfortable. The staff were great. The location is very convenient and there is an excellent supermarket nearby. Transport links are very good. It took three tries for the check-in staff to find me a fully functioning room. The first one had a puddle on the floor being caused by the portable AC unit perched on top of the broken installed unit. I was then moved to a room that had no WIFI and no desk. Plus, the phone did not work. Finally, the third room had functioning WIFI and a desk, so, even though the phone didn't work, I accepted it. The shower, which has a fixed glass panel and no shower curtain, is inadequate to stop the floor getting soaked, even when used on a low setting. My room lacked a bathmat, but the staff gave me one after I asked on the 2nd day. The room was extremely noisy because the upper division of the window was not double-glazed. The rooms do not have a fridge or microwave, and there is no restaurant in the hotel.

The building is getting old, and some of the carpet and furniture in the lobby has seen better days. On our check out all but 1 elevator was down. We were on the 14th floor. Our room was clean and we were well cared for while we were there. The location is great and it's an easy walk to both subway stations and Times Square.

We have stayed many times at the Galivant but will not go back. The room was small which is ok but so small that the double bed had to be pushed up against the radiator/ wall so you couldn’t get in on one side of the bed unless you crawled up from the bottom of the bed or crawled in from the other side. The huge dresser, desk & chair filled up the room so you barely had room to walk around. The shower had great water pressure (and looked like it was just updated) but the handle broke off so the water couldn’t be turned off until the maintenance man came after 15 minutes, fixed it & informed us to gently turn the handle because it was previously retrofitted & could fall off again. You had to keep the door closed on the teeny tiny bathroom, otherwise the fan would run all night. The phone in the room would just randomly light up or ring. Very weird. The appearance of the room was not visually appealing & needs major repairs to paint, walls, mirror on the bathroom door. The biggest problem was you couldn’t adjust the air conditioning so it was 62 degrees our entire stay even though on our first day we informed the front desk. But nothing ever happened. (We decided to just live with it when nothing happened after we told the front desk.) We just stacked towels, our suitcase, and extra bags on top of the unit to block the freezing air blasting out. I was the unlucky person sleeping next to this so thank goodness there was a decent blanket that you could wrap up in.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The concierge service was fabulous! The room was really clean, and I could tell the housekeeping staff were working hard. The Air Conditioner worked well and was nice and cold. It was a quiet hotel. The bathroom fan was on a sensor and was extremely loud! You could not control it at all and so every middle of the night trip to the bathroom would activate a loud fan. The shower was extremely small and had a broken shelf that was directly under the showerhead. It was impossible to wash my hair because of the shelf.

The lobby was nice but permanently smelled heavily of moth balls or something similar which made it uncomfortable. The hotel has 3 elevators that are quite small and out of the three, one was always out of service on and off and the decals on the doors were well picked off and broken. The hallways are very outdated with stains on the carpets and damage to walls that were not fixed or were partially fixed...like drywall compound that was applied but not sanded or painted. The room size was good and the beds were fine and clean, however, everything else needs updating....the doors don't shut properly and have to be banged shut. The bathroom fan did not work. The shower only had a half glass and everything gets wet when it's used. The wallpaper colour was fading, the back of the night stands were coming apart, the main light overhead in the main bedroom was permanently stuck on the dimmest setting, the little fridge's door was falling over and had to be lined up to close properly. To top it off, every day there was a super loud noise coming from the next room...sounded like a very loud washing machine that wasn't leveled properly which made it sound like a train was going by for over 5 minutes at a time, several times a day. It woke us up numerous times. We paid over $3k CDN for a 5 night stay. For that much, I expected more. I recommend you spend your money elsewhere if you can.

Do not stay here, we had a horrible experience. I normally don't leave reviews, but I had to for this place. When checking in, the front desk person claimed to give us an "upgrade". The upgrade was a smaller room with a smaller bed and outdated features. When asked for a refund, they refused. They gave us a "nicer" room. This room didn't have a working tv, still super small, and the water took about 20 minutes to heat up. The fan and bathroom mirror light did not work. For the price you pay, this was not worth it. The wifi did not even show up on the list of wifi on our devices, so we couldn't even use wifi. The building itself is old and outdated. Needs lots of repairs. It seems every time we were at the front desk there was an issue with other travelers/rooms as well. Overall made our trip have a more negative experience because of the hotel. Will definitely not stay here again.

It has upwards of 300 rooms, making the 3 elevators a bit of a chore as they open on your floor already full. As it was my 2nd time there, I expected an upgrade (I'm a Platinum Hotels.com member) and was given a dreary room, about which I complained. They promised a better one the next day and they delivered. I'm providing a photo of their first room, which was horrid, offering a view of what looked like a mattress cover. The staff of Adelina and Jayrick (sp?) were helpful, with the lobby fairly large and okay, but the floors themselves were dingy as one walked to the rooms. Also, the cleaning staff was quite nice, offering me an extra chair in my 2nd room and setting up a luggage rack for my bag. NYC has become quite expensive. It was about $250 a night two years ago and was now $433 with fees. That is a "wow" amount, considering that my well-located on the Strand hotel in London was $250 with full English breakfast. Plus, shockingly, when I looked for the ice machine featured on three floors, there was none to be found. The desk clerk shrugged and said they were removed! $433 a night?! To be fair, many nearby hotels were over $600, and I am not referring to the Waldorf!

Location is great close to the subway and Times Square There were non-smoking signs posted throughout the entire property, and I was even warned about smoking fines $50 (even subject to one) despite the fact that I do not smoke or vape. However, the lobby, elevators, and stairwells consistently smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, especially at night. The odor was noticeable immediately upon arrival and was strong enough to be overwhelming for all (specially for non smokers like me). This was very inconsistent with the property’s strict non-smoking policy and the repeated warnings about fines ins signs around the property and check in instructions. As a guest, it was unpleasant to constantly encounter cigarette smoke smell throughout all the common areas of the hotel. The pungent smell "hits you in the face" as soon as you arrive to the hotel after a long day of exploring the city, my experience in NYC was very pleasent and even suprised abt city cleniless (despite steriotypes) but this issue with the cigarrete smoke smell at the hotel was sadly something to remember. Please note ooms are smaller that shown in picures, king size bed just room for one person walk around. Sufice just to rest after exploring New York. Could feel tighter if you are spending longer in the room.

Also at check in he asked to see my credit card which is fine to match the name, then proceeds to tap in on tap pay and charges me the security deposit without telling me an amount or what he was doing.

Location was central to everything but that’s also a downside. Being Times Square it’s tourist central. For those of us who aren’t there as tourists it’s a bit of an inconvenience. Couple of things could use some improvement. The elevators are tiny and they take forever to get up and down and were getting stuck frequently. The only other thing that comes to mind, other than the renovations ongoing, was the size of the room. I understand it’s NY and space comes at a premium but the marketing pictures didn’t exactly match the product.

When we arrive to the lobby , there was a couple asking why there wasn't any hot water . It turned out that the boiler had to be reset because it stopped working. This was not the only time this happened during our stay. Once in our room, an electrical outlet blew up on us for turning on the bedside lamp when we arrived at the hotel. After that, none of the outlets in the room or bathroom worked. They gave me a significantly smaller bedroom gor the night. The bathroom door of the second room was rotting from the bottom up since the showers don't have a door or curtain, so water sprayed everywhere, especially on the door. They ended up getting us another King size room, but it was not the same kind I had gotten originally. This was our wedding anniversary trip and that was how it started onbthe first night. Oh, and another couple was fighting the front desk because there was no hot water again as we were checking out on the last morning. Avoid this hotel at all cost!!!!

Location you can't beat it...right in the heart of Broadway and Times Square right behind so from that point awesome. Room we were in a family room so the size was big and comfortable for the 5 of us. Kids like the bunk beds and the bathroom size was huge. Hotel has too many flaws and so much potential to do so well and make so much more...only if they upgrade their facilities...like having so many rooms on 1 floor and having 15 floors and only 2 small lifts working partially imagine the chaos with bags and kids...also wifi is spotty didn't come in the room kept complaining...in all I wish they upgrade as soon as possible.

Perfectly positioned in the theatre district, this hotel is well located. It is showing it's age, but was clean and the bed comfortable. The A/C was good, once I learned how to operate it. The en-suite was a little cramped, particularly the toilet, but it was workable. The lack of hot water was however a problem. If you want a hot shower, be up and in the shower by 6am!

Very friendly and professional. If you are a budget traveler (along or with family) and looking at a room as just a place to sleep and shower, then this is a good option. If you are a business traveler spending any amount of time in the room, this is not the place. I booked last minute. I spent about 3 minutes in the room and left to find a better option (at a higher price) The rooms are very dated

Location is really good They do not maintain the property properly, and there is no maintenance personnel in the building at night. We booked four rooms — three for Thursday and one for Friday. For the Friday room, we had to pay an additional $50 for early check-in, which we understood. However, when we entered the room, there was no hot water. They said they were working to resolve the issue. Later, we got stuck in the elevator for about 8 minutes. After going out to walk around the city, we returned to find that the AC was not working either. We went to the front desk, and the attendant told us they did not have any maintenance staff available at night. She called the on-call manager, and his response was basically that there was nothing he could do because the hotel was at full capacity. At that point, we had no choice but to check out and book rooms at the Hyatt instead. I also wrote an email to the manager. Although he apologized, they still did not refund us the full amount.

Let me start by saying that this property is an older building and I went into the booking knowing I should expect some irregularities. I need to say that the staff that I interacted with went above the norm to make my stay good. The only reason I gave a lower score is because of the wifi. It does not make sense that the wifi was as shoddy as it was. I finally figured out how to make it work for me though. I originally booked the smallest room possible since I was traveling alone. Unfortunately, the AC was not working. I woke up in the middle of the night very hot and feeling like I was suffocating. the night manager moved me to a decommissioned room. He told me the mattress was in line to be replaced soon as one side of had spring issues. I was totally fine with this quirk because the AC worked perfectly!!! The night manager also adjusted my rate to accommodate the inconvenience. Once I was moved, everything else felt good. Staff was always friendly. The AC was great in my room. I rarely heard any of my neighbors, even though I would see a full lobby and active elevators every time I went out. So, I know the hotel was pretty booked. It was located to everything I needed to be near for this trip. If they fix the wifi , i am sure they will get better scores.

If you are OK with no-frills, this is a great place. If you don’t mind just having Wi-Fi in the lobby, this is a great place. One of the things I liked is there was no carpeting in the room which always means a cleaner room, especially when it comes to a budget buy. The bed seemed clean. It had no odor. I left three dollars for the cleaning ladies out every single day and they changed my sheets and cleaned my room. The safe worked. This is something that is important to me. Also the had every channel that you could possibly want. I am a native New Yorker and needed to book something quickly upon my mother‘s death. Typically as a native New Yorker I would not go to Times Square. What I liked about the location was if you headed to eighth Avenue you had Starbucks towards the left and you had Whole Foods to the right & if you went all the way to ninth Avenue there was a laundromat and some really good restaurants. They quickly refunded $160.91 hold.

Our room had a smashed bug on the wall. Paint and wood peeling off the bathroom door. No smoke detector. The in-room phone didn’t work — which means no calling the front desk, and no calling 911 if something went wrong. WiFi was nonexistent inside the room. Every single door in this hotel slams. All hours of the night. We flagged the WiFi and phone situation to the front desk. They weren’t concerned. Then a staff member yelled at me for closing the door to the lobby restroom while I was using it. In another language, so I still don’t know what the actual issue was. Being screamed at by hotel staff for using a bathroom is not something I expected to add to a trip recap. I get that budget hotels have tradeoffs. But broken safety features and that kind of staff interaction aren’t tradeoffs — they’re problems. The neighborhood carries this rating. The hotel itself doesn’t earn it.

My experience at this hotel was deeply troubling. Not only are the conditions unacceptable, but I also encountered behavior from staff that I found offensive and discriminatory. During a conversation with a female front desk manager about ongoing issues with the WiFi—which was consistently unavailable throughout my multi-week stay—I was subjected to an antisemitic remark. That alone is completely unacceptable. Beyond that incident, the hotel fails to meet even basic expectations. Despite charging an additional $100 per night at check-in as a so-called “facilities fee,” there are essentially no amenities. There is no restaurant, no gym, no ice machines, and, as mentioned, no reliable WiFi. They also have you donating money of your stay to a charity that I knew nothing about. The physical condition of the rooms is equally concerning: showers lack proper doors, locks on room doors do not function correctly, and key cards frequently stop working, forcing repeated trips to the front desk. Service at the front desk was consistently dismissive and unhelpful. When I informed the manager that I intended to escalate the issue to her supervisor, I was subsequently removed from the property through Travelocity rather than having my concerns addressed. Overall, this was an extremely negative experience, both in terms of the accommodations and the treatment I received.

If you are going to NYC looking for just a bed in a good location, the gallivant is the place for you. Check in was easy, we paid the $50 for early check in, the desk attendant told us the ice machines were broken but we could “go to the gym and get free water”. There was no free water and we saw no gym. Our room was fine. Sheets were clean and the bathroom was nice. Only one outlet in the room had an outlet cover, and the outlets were very loose. We had to ask the front desk 3 separate times for towels, we asked at 3pm and did not receive them till midnight. Our last night we ran out of toilet paper and when I asked the attendant in the hallway for more he told me I had to call the front desk to get more. Our phone in our room did not work so we no toilet paper. The shower was very nice, but the pillows on the beds were flat. The floors in the room were very slanted. Biggest complaint was the shower area where the water splashed outside into the floor of the bathroom so every time after a shower there would be a lot of water as you stepped out. Had to combat with placing towels on the ground. If you’re not looking to spend too much this hotel will probably be good for you but personally I would spend some more money next time and book at another place.

Location, location, location. This is an old hotel with some wear and tear, but it was clean and we loved the premium room with queen bed and bunk beds - it was like having a suite with two rooms! Hotels.com has the wrong check out time - it should be 11 a.m. and not noon and the property said they've been asking hotels.com to change it for a long time. We were on an unseasonably hot spring day and the air conditioner is a window unit that looked a bit old. It was blowing in our face and making loud noises, but it was fine. Again, location, location, location - SO CLOSE to Times Square and the show we came into the city to see. Friendly staff. Comfy beds and pillows and clean rooms.

Trying to get a hold of the front desk via phone is virtually impossible. The phone just rings. All of the outlets in the room were so loose the plugs would just fall out. Overall, it's a good value.

The location is amazing! Maybe two blocks west of Times Square. I think one day we saw a pink/red stain on a towel after the room was cleaned but that was the only issues that I observed. The bed were comfortable and even if the rooms are “small,” we were only in the room at night after a long day in the city. The hotel has a concierge service so if you book with them and are in the city early, you can leave you bags before you check in so you can explore the city. You can also leave your bags there when you check out and have hours before you leave the city but there is a small fee. Would book again!

    1. The bed sheets are really rough and thin. Almost like the texture of a napkin (but no bed bugs) 2. There is a fire station on the same block as the hotel so even being in NYC where the sirens are non stop…. this was truly non stop. BUT, if you are like us and we like sleeping with the fan on, it really does drown out the noise and we were on the 14th floor. I also got my deposit back at the end of my stay even though many reviews said they didn’t get it back. All in all you’ll be so exhausted from your walking around the city that you’ll just want to sleep. It’s an easy location and they have their own taxi that can take you to the airport for a flat rate of around $88-$95 (less than uber or regular taxi). Would I stay here again? Probably not but it served its purpose for our first time visiting the city!

The staff was VERY friendly and chatty which I appreciated. The room was small, but the prefect size for one. The room was not fully cleaned properly as there was a dirty towel hanging on the back of the bathroom door (had makeup on it) and hair about the bathroom. There was a nice view from the window facing east. The room stayed toasty warm. The shower was warmer and water pressure was great, but it did take a while to drain, meaning there was standing, soapy water while I was showering. The bed was fine, not new, but did the job. I was happy to not have to wait long for the elevators any time I needed to come and go. I will say, the walls are thin. I could hear very clearly people in the halls and in the next room. Overall, the location is super convenient and the price is right.

The first thing that happened was we were assigned to a room that was already occupied. That should have been our clue! This is a very dated hotel, our toilet was stopped up, the shower handle literally fell off while I was showering. I had to leave it running, go downstairs and lodge my complaint with wet hair. Another complaint the blow dryer did not work. The room does not have a working phone so each time I needed assistance I had to walk downstairs. The room did not have working plugs close to the bed. It was also very noisy. The staff was good to get things fixed, (toilet and shower) definitely a plus. It is very close to Times Square- another plus.

Of course if you are not used to walking more than a mile, then take the train. Finally a vacation I did not gain a ton of weight on!!!! Back to the hotel, the staff were very nice. From the front desk to the cleaning crew, they were personable, kind, and generous. Elevators worked and were small, but the wait was never long. Beds were comfy!!! Towels and bathroom were nice and clean. No odd smells or anything. The TV and WiFi did not work that well for me, so I used my phone as a hot spot. TV was just normal tv, nothing fancy.

The original room I was placed in had a giant roach in the closet, the floor frame was old/degraded. The bed sheets and frame were dirty. During check in, the guys the front desk was not the friendliest but switched my room immediately, I’m sure he was aware of the condition. During check out, the lady was not nice to the guest ahead of me or me. I asked for a printed copy of what I was charged for in the beginning because it was told that there would be a $150 hold and it would be returned however, only $11 roughly were returned which was not probably communicated during check in. There’s not many amenities and the water originally comes out brown at first. If you’re looking for a place to sleep only, this is for you. Keep in mind there’s no microwaves, ice containers, or refrigerators in the room. This is in Times Square so there’s food and fun around, but the actual hotel has nothing to really offer.

When we arrived in our room it was 79°. We could not get the air to work and it was apparent at least the cleaning staff was aware because the windows were open. We let the front desk staff know, and the assured us it would be fixed once we returned from dinner. Once we returned, the room temperature was unchanged. We requested a new room and were told the hotel was sold out and we had no options. All we could do is sleep with the windows open. Beyond this- the room was dirty- like food in the air conditioning vents, corners of the floor uncleaned, marks on the walls, damage to the furniture. The bunk beds were not well supported. The next morning after having a terrible night trying to sleep we again requested a new room. They did allow us to move to a room with working air that was in slightly better shape, however it had questionable installation of the air conditioning units with toilet paper stuffed in the wall. The location was great, but the quality of the hotel was terrible.

Issue: Had to change rooms…and for my safety, I had to decide if I wanted to change rooms again or check out early. I decided to check out early. Room 1 - wall was unfinished with pipes exposed next to AC, bed was falling off the frame, no curtain on window for privacy and furniture was in disrepair. After debating for 20 mins I went to the front desk with the situation. They placed me in a new room. Room 2 - This room was “finished” per the front desk. I was exhausted so I retired and went to bed. The next day in the elevator, I was cornered by another guest, which is obviously not the fault of the hotel. However, when I got back to my room, I realized that the dead bolt on my door did not lock properly nor was there a door latch to keep my door from opening. I then realized that there was a giant gap under the door at about half an inch. Which would definitely allow someone to stick a coat hanger under the door and open the handle of my door easily. I decided to pack my things and head to the front desk to check out early. At the front desk, I told them the situation and how I felt unsafe and it took me three times explaining to a female front desk agent about the safety concerns until they understood what I was conveying.

Housekeeping was sensational — our room was cleaned daily, we received fresh towels every day, and the housekeeping lady we saw a few times was absolutely lovely. She even followed up to ask whether maintenance had fixed the issues we reported, which was really appreciated. Unfortunately, some room issues were never resolved. The safe never worked, the toilet clogged and overflowed twice, and while we were given a TV remote, the TV itself only had one channel. The shower had great water pressure, but water would leak all over the bathroom floor, which could be a slipping hazard. After the second toilet issue, staff did offer to move us to another room, but with only three nights left it felt like more effort than it was worth. Overall, the location is fantastic — less than a 5-minute walk to Times Square and close to subway lines. This is not a 5-star hotel, but for a cheaper stay in an unbeatable location, it did the job.

This may have been the worst hotel ever. The room was very run down, walls need painting, desk chair was filthy and stained, wall lamp above the bed was broken and hanging down. Most of the power outlets didn’t work and the ones that did, you had to prop your device in just the right angle to get any power. No seating, just the beds. Plenty of room for a few chairs or loveseat. No ice machines or vending machines, not even a lobby store to purchase snacks or toiletries. Did not enjoy the experience at all.

My lower rating is due mainly to the very poor wifi. I am rarely in my room but one ipad could not to the point of entering the password, other connected but dropped whenever trying to actually use the internet. I wanted to give a poor rating because Saturday and Sunday they put me on a floor where the locks on the doors needed repair. The lock on my door was very very poor and not safe. I felt like it was because I’m a black person therefore I was given this room. When I paid to stay another day the gentleman at the desk Sunday morning was very polite he offered me another room and explained to me the locks were in need of repair. He brought the subject up to me about the locks. I believe that was very kind, professional and caring for him to offer me another room and explained why without me having to ask.

It didn’t take long to discover that the shower drain had a bunch of bugs coming out of it. Like, a lot. We covered the drain with the ice bucket to prevent more from coming into the shower, shut the bathroom door and then notified the front desk. They apologized and said they would take care of it while we were away. Which they did. Smelled like bleach when we returned but no more bugs… until throughout the evening. My mother tried to prep the coffee pot for the morning and it wouldn’t work. Front desk stated they would bring us a different one right away, it never did arrive. That night, no matter how much we tried to get the radiators to work, we just couldn’t get heat. In the morning, we asked the front desk to please have someone look at it while we were at breakfast. Again, they never had done it by the time we returned in the afternoon. We asked the housekeeping lady for more blankets and she notified maintenance immediately that the heat was not working, he looked at it and told us immediately yes they didn’t work and we needed a new room. Instead they brought a space heater

This is by far the worst hotel experience Ive ever had booking through Expedia. I have traveled and stayed all over the world in budget accommodations. I do not need new, luxury hotels, but basic cleanliness and hygiene standards can be accomplished at the most basic room rentals. We have stayed in $20/nights last minute bookings in rural Mexico better than this Time Square hotel. The location is excellent if you are going to a Broadway show nearby, however for most people the rooms are uninhabitable. Black mold, bugs, crumbling walls, dangling and unsafe electrical work. Its all bad. The hotel management acknowledged this and did let us look at several other rooms to see what our preference of the worst was, however for an affordable old hotel "there is something wrong with all of them" according to the management. Do not book this hotel. Again, I have stayed in $20 Mexican hotels, booked 10 day trips to Jamaica for $400 round trip and had nicer humble accommodations. This place is flithy, unsafe, and no one here cares.

The front staff wasn’t terribly helpful. You can check in earlier than pm, but you have to pay $75. Our soap dispenser in the bathroom was broken. The heater was completely broken and disconnected from the wall. None of the ice machines were working throughout the hotel, despite being told they’ve been broken and were fixed. We had 2 separate instances of roaches in our room (one in the bathroom and 1 on the bed). The location of the hotel was wonderful, and cleaning staff was very nice, otherwise there isn’t much positive to state regarding this hotel.

I appreciated that the staff was nice, the price was low and the location was great, but… the photos didn’t reflect the condition of the room. The walls were in rough shape and the light fixture was falling apart. The wall plug was loose and wouldn’t hold a phone charger. Additionally, we requested and were granted late checkout at noon which was nice, but… the housekeepers banged on our door at 8am and 10am, waking us up both times. They shouldn’t do this unless they know the occupants have checked out and the desk should inform housekeeping when late checkout is granted.

THE GOOD: -Location: You are in the middle of the action. -Staff/Price: Transparent pricing (fees disclosed, deposit returned fast) and helpful housekeeping. -Comfort: AC/Heat worked perfectly. THE BAD: The property desperately needs a facelift. -Maintenance: Doors don't fit frames (we had to slam them to shut), leaving gaps that let hallway light in. Window shades were ripped and didn't block light. There were unpainted sections on the walls. -Bathroom: Shower has no door, so water floods the floor. The vent was broken, trapping steam and smells. -Cleanliness: Found trash behind the bed and questionable stains on the desk. Trash bags in hallways, and wall's were dirty. -Noise: Thin walls + door gaps = we heard every neighbor walking and slamming doors. -Layout: Incredibly Small compared to photos and Bunk beds blocked the TV with no outlets nearby. The ladder is painful to step on! VERDICT: Not "terrible," but not up to standards. It’s a safe budget crash pad if you ignore cosmetic damage and non-working WI-FI. If you want what you see in the photos, look elsewhere. (See attached photos for room condition. First time in NYC, but we are frequent U.S. travelers.)

To begin with, the lady at the front desk was very rude and seemed like she just wanted to get rid of me even though there was no one else checking in at the time I arrived. Moving onto the room, it looks like someone came in and destroyed the entire room prior to our stay. The elevator was falling apart, the hooks in the room were ripped from the wall and not replaced, the fan in the washroom didn’t work, there was mold in the shower grout, there was also mold on the wall behind the heater as well as the electrical sockets around the room were free hanging and not properly installed into the wall which is a safety hazard for guests. On top of this all, the keys were not properly activated upon check in which meant having to go back to reception to get new keys which also seemed like an inconvenience to the gentlemen that was sitting at the desk. Overall, given the price of this room this experience was less than satisfactory and I will not be recommending this hotel to any of my friends and family regardless of the proximity to Times Square.

Upon check-in, I inquired about the possibility of an earlier check-in, as I was not feeling well after traveling. The front desk staff responded with a dismissive and unpleasant attitude. I was informed that I would be called next for service, yet I was skipped multiple times, with staff repeatedly stating that my room was not ready. As a chef with Hilton, I am aware that staff are typically able to assign the next available clean room when circumstances allow, which made this experience particularly frustrating. When I finally accessed the room, I was disappointed to find that the accommodations did not reflect the images advertised online. The room was extremely small and misleadingly represented. Additionally, there were no ice machines available on any floor, no vending machines for water or beverages, and no microwave available to reheat food—basic amenities that guests reasonably expect. I raised these concerns with the front desk on both days of my stay; however, the reception staff appeared largely indifferent. I also observed several other guests voicing similar complaints, which suggests these issues are ongoing. Compounding the frustration, my key cards repeatedly stopped working after a single use, requiring frequent trips back to the front desk

Location was fantastic! Walkable and central to everything (midtown) within 5mins to Times Square or 35mins to Chelsea Market. Downfall was the fan in the window was noisy as the rooms were very hot and A/C unit shows it goes down to 64deg but never cooled the room. This also let in a lot of the sirens, honks and road noise. One morning we didn’t have hot water and when I tried to call down to the front desk the phone in the room didn’t work. Non of the three ice machines worked so we had to get our tiny bucket filled at the front desk. And there’s no refrigerator in the room. But the coffee pod/maker in the room was decent. Also, the bathroom fan was on a sensor so in the middle of the night if you needed to use it there was a nightlight that automatically came on to assist your eyes but the fan was loud and went on for a little bit. Personally I wouldn’t book at this hotel again because of the lack of sleep we got from all of the disturbances but if you’re looking for walkable hotel and somewhat reasonable price just be aware to bring ear plugs and buy ice for the room.

Overall a good place to stay. The hotel was very conveniently located to Times Square, which made it nice to plan your day around all the major tourists attractions in Manhattan. The room itself was nice. Washroom was a bit small but nice. The finishings of the hotel room itself were not exactly top-tier. For example, the air conditioning unit in our room had peeled paint and exposed drywall all around it. It wasn’t the nicest hotel room I’ve stayed in, but overall it was good. We did have to pay to get our luggage watched as we checked out and still had some time before our flight. Other than that for a couple trying to stay in Manhattan on a budget it is a great option that doesn’t break the bank.

The original room we were given had not yet been cleaned out from the guests before us. The bed was unmade and there was trash and used towels everywhere. After getting a room change our new room was still very dirty. The paint on the walls was chipping, mysterious blue spots stained the wall paper, and an old heater outlined in mold sat under the window. The bathroom was almost too small to get in and out of and there was no shower door. This left all the water as you showered to pool up on the bathroom floor. Staff entered our room while we were sleeping and on the last day we saw a large cockroach in our bed. Needless to say this did not feel like the stay that was advertised online and the staged pictures are not accurate.

Spent the entire time wondering who had died in the room or been attacked in the room, neither thought fostering a sense of security. The door to the bathroom had also been kicked in at some point, judging by the damage to the door and the jamb. The one outlet in the room was hanging off the wall about 1/2 inch. It worked, but we worried about it being a fire hazard any time it was used. The wall switch for the bedside lamp didn't work, meaning you had to use the switch on the light and - any time you touched it - the light fell off its wall mounting. Room #2: Had to move furniture to plug in the lights. The window was stuck open about 8 inches and oddly, the room was still roughly 80 degrees Fahrenheit (in December!). In place of the control panel on the radiator, there was a piece of plywood and a rocker switch, a clear violation of electrical code (that didn't even work). Dresser drawers wouldn't stay closed, creating a bump hazard any time you moved about the room. We were left wondering how it was remotely legal for these rooms to be rented for use - the electrical violations alone! And don't even get us started on having to pay a "resort fee" for the privilege...

    * Great location. Cons: * Impossible to reach the hotel via phone or email. * Deluxe rooms are on par with standard hotels/motels; other room types are very disappointing. * Staff are rude and unhelpful. * Biggest frustration: we had paid in full for a deluxe room, but due to flight cancellations, we arrived a day late. Despite emailing the hotel to update our arrival and secure the room, they gave it away anyway. Overall: If you’re on a tight budget with no other options, you might proceed. Otherwise, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

The room needs updating and better “crevice” cleaning- floors were clean and beds but the heater had a lot of dust in it and the end table had crumbs in cracks. The aesthetics of the room was not pleasant. The outlets were coming out of the wall; the plugs would not stay in. There’s drywall screws coming out of the walls. It looks like they took out old AC units and replaced with others, but didn’t patch the holes or paint around them. There’s no place to put your luggage except on the bed or the floor. Couple good things were the lighting and the hot water.

The room was disgusting. The mess, the dirt, the rubbish. The streets were cleaner. Tried to resolve with the hotel but they weren’t interested. Had to sleep with socks on as the floor was that dirty you didn’t want to walk around bare foot. The AC / heater unit sounded like a jet engine therefore we couldn’t have it on, so with it being -8 outside, the room was freezing. Was told this was one of their “premier rooms” however no way was this the case. Absolutely disgusting. The blinds didn’t fit the windows so there was light shining in the room all night, the drain didn’t drain due to being full of other people’s hair and blocked. Staff seemed unhelpful and rude upon check in. Would recommend avoiding this place at all cost!!! No customer service, no care, only interested in money. Disgraceful.

I recently stayed at The Gallivant Times Square, and while there were some highlights, the overall experience was frustrating due to the state of the room and lack of communication from management. The Good * Location: You truly cannot beat the location. It is in the heart of everything, making it incredibly easy to get around New York City. * Staff: The housekeeping team was the highlight of the stay. They were very attentive, friendly, and kept the room quite clean despite the other issues. The Bad (Maintenance Issues) Unfortunately, the facilities are in desperate need of urgent maintenance. My room had several glaring problems: * The Bathroom: Several parts were broken, making it difficult to use the space comfortably. * The Walls: It looked like the room had recently undergone "repairs," but it was a DIY disaster. There were wall putty spots everywhere that hadn't been sanded or painted over, which looked very unprofessional. * Climate Control: The AC/Heating unit was completely non-functional. Service Disappointment The most frustrating part was the lack of follow-up. I notified the front desk about the heating unit not working, but I received zero feedback or assistance. No one came to look at it, and I wasn't offered a room change or even an update. Summary: While the location is excellent and the housekeeping staff works hard, the hotel feels neglected. It’s hard to recommend staying there.

After check-in, I wanted to shower but had to wait 15 minutes for lukewarm water (this happened again on my last day, only it was closer to 25 minutes that I waited). Also, the walk-in shower was only half covered by a glass wall, allowing water to spray out in droves. Out of three electrical outlets in the room and bathroom, only one firmly held my chargers. And, the one located under the TV wasn’t even firmly secured to the wall and didn’t have a plate. The elevators were a constant source of annoyance, as they are incredibly small with a seven (if you’re lucky) person limit, and the day I checked in, only two of them were working. When housekeeping came to clean on my second day, the towel supply wasn’t replenished, and the bathmat (which of course was soaked from that morning’s shower) was taken but not replaced. Finally, on my last day when I opened the one remaining bath towel, a long, dark, curly hair fell onto the back of the toilet. During my stay, I encountered a number of other guests with similar complaints, or just general statements regarding the lack of quality of this particular property. I know that I won’t book future stays here, which is unfortunate because the price was reasonable and the location perfect for my love of being near the theatre.

The room itself was average and worn, with faded paint, scratch marks, missing drawer handle, and even a shower handle that fell off. The walls were thin, I could hear people and doors slamming past midnight, which shook the wall. I get it’s an older NYC building, but the online photos felt a bit misleading; they show rooms in its best light. Overall, fine for a short 1-2 night stay if you’re out late exploring. I get hotels around the holidays can be pricey, but with the worn condition and broken fixtures, just have realistic expectations, the room can be more worn than the photos suggest, and noise can be an issue.

Avoid this Hotel at all costs. Absolutely shameful place and people. What was meant to be the most magical Christmas in New York stay started out so poorly. After 12 hours of traveling we arrived at the Hotel to check in. Rude front desk people that just looked at their screen and handed over a key card and pointed to the Lift (elevator). 1st room. Floor 4. This room might as well have been in the street it was that cold. A 1980s style AC unit sticking through a window and some plastic around it that was with massive holes either sides of the panels. The heater didn’t work and there was a little portable heater on there that wouldn’t have heated up a phone box. The main noise of the busy streets and Fire Station a mere 20 feet away will stop you sleeping a wink. The room appeared to have survived a hurricane or there must have been a mass brawl in there. The walls were all battered and wallpaper ripped. The chairs were stained and furniture full of stains and bits of nasties. 2nd room. Floor 9. While this room had an upgraded heater and the noise had improved (you’re higher up) the recent upgraded heater had been installed and the evidence from the previous one were still there. This room also had all the same damage from the first. 3rd room. You can see where I am going here. Terrible all round and the managers comments to me in the 3rd room were… ‘would you like a refund because this hotel isn’t for you’!! I was dumbfounded by this.

The low rating is for the poor quality of the hotel and rooms. It’s incredibly rundown and is in desperate need of repairs and updates. The word I’d use to describe the “ambiance” of the hotel rooms is “old college dorm room”. Scruffy and damaged furniture, marks and dings all over the walls, pieces of wall-trim missing, etc. The street noise goes until about 2am, settles and then starts back up around 7:30am. So don’t plan on getting much rest as the insulation and noise prevention is none existent for this hotel. Location is central and convenient! Overall, I probably wouldn’t stay here again, but for 48 hours in the city, it provided what I needed.

No heat in our room (sub zero outside - no double glazing) took over 24 hours and half a dozen complaints before getting a room with heating though the window (to a very busy road) would not fully close. We were assigned to floor 15th our room was writing front of the elevator and next to us. We had the ice machine and water machine which did not work and he kept beeping all night, so I was really noisy- one of the curtains from our room had completely felt down during the night, which was super scary. And the following morning we requested maintenance to come and fix it which they did right away. So thank you for that. The building does have three elevators. Only Two of them were working but due to the fact that we were in the top floor floor 15 you will take us forever to get on the elevator so we would end up using the stairs which was really tiring. The front desk personnel could improve in terms of providing a welcoming environment. Overall day seemed very overworked and stressed most of the time which cost our overall stay, not feel so pleasant. The location is a big perk. The room was very clean and the staff were excellent and friendly. However, the air conditioning was not working properly and the room never got quite cold enough.

It's a good hotel in an excellent location, and with a wonderful staff. I wish their elevators and hot water would run a bit more consistently.

Decently priced hotel convenient to midtown/times square, broadway etc. Super easy access to multiple subway lines. I would definitely say it's a great value, however don't expect the room to be anything luxury, it's clean and comfortable enough, but it's a building with character. Windows are older and some street noise does come through, if you're sensitive to that you might want to consider noise.

Tried 3 different rooms hoping to find something close to the pictures. Room 1 - holes in the wall from a recent heater replacement left unpatched. Room 2 - no thermostat at all, just an empty casing where it once lived, a rickety window unit AC (in November) thats accordion wings rattled in the wind. In addition there was peeling paint falling down on the ceiling, dirty, chipped and dinged up walls, suspiciously stained desk chair (had to put a towel down) and very dated/damaged furniture. In the bathroom the ceiling vent was COVERED with a sweater worth of dust, the shower handle fell off when turning it on, the grout was either missing or moldy, and the toilet was stained. I stayed in room 2 because room 3 was across from a mechanical closet with a constant alarm going off, and no better state. I did attempt to abandon my reservation and move hotels but ultimately stayed put due to the hour and high prices for last minute booking. The rest of the hotel is about the same. The rugs through the hallways are stained/bleached/torn up. The elevators are small and VERY slow which gave guests time to commiserate over the state of their lodgings. Every ride I took someone brought up the poor state of their room unprompted by me. The pluses: the staff are warm and accommodating (it's not their fault, and they try!), the bed was clean and comfy, and the location is great. Just know you are getting what you paid for and go in with clear expectations. This is a place to sleep.
