Motel 6 Oakland, CA - Embarcadero

You get what you pay for. Very low end. I was surprised every morning that my car was not broken in to.

No security on premises. I got chased by a homeless persons dog while walking to my room.

This place is horrible and very scary

Easy check in I like how they have security patrolling and also only people that has a room there can only park there is amazing and good idea for the safety for others

The staff was friendly. The location has a great section for you to enjoy the water. Easy access to the freeway. Quiet and easy parking.

There is a pretty view of the marina with a walkway alongside of it. The staff were very courteous. There was plenty of parking and it was free. My spouse liked the bed but I thought it was too hard. The sheets were clean and the pillows were comfortable. I appreciated that there was a blanket on the bed. There were enough towels but only one roll of toilet paper. I am sure you can ask for another roll as needed. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner. There is no mini refrigerator. There is room for improvement in these areas: There were some stains on the walls and the floor. Part of the white grout above the shower floor was dark (needed to be cleaned). There was litter along the walkway area near the hotel along the marina. The floor mats in front of the room doors were terrible. They looked very worn out and gave us immediate bad expectations for what the room would look like. New colorful mats could improve the appearance significantly and would give a positive impression.

I stayed more than a week and they would not clean my room or give me clean bed linens. They only gave me one bath towel and one face towel. Very poor service!

There is some upkeep that could be done to this place, but overall it was a good place to stay for a great price. I would definitely stay again.

The staff is very kind and friendly, the location is very convenient, and the surroundings are charming and peaceful. The only thing that isn't particularly well-maintained is the facilities—perhaps due to wear and tear; the AC in my room was broken and not functioning at 100%, and the furniture and shelves were a bit battered.

Expect the bare minimum. No product in the shower. Very basic linens. Old buildings with wear and tear everywhere. Friendly staff though!

Room was dirty as heck, sheets had paw prints on them. When I asked the from desk if someone could clean, I was informed that house keeping wouldn’t be in until tomorrow.

I picked a non-smoking room to avoid the smell. The room smelled like cigarettes and marijuana smoke even though it’s a non-smoking room. I think the smell is coming from outside the building through AC vents. We wanted to turn off the AC but buttons are missing so we couldn’t control it, it was running the whole time, one of the filters was also missing. Beds were clean.

The floor for room 219 was so dirty. I stepped out of the shower, walked a few steps and. Optics the bottom of my feet were so dirty. I addressed to the front desk and not even an apology was riven.

So close to the water… Nice views back to cityscape. And I believe Motel 6 is the best value for the money … no frills .. just clean rooms and friendly staff. The HVAC in the room was not in good condition.

There was also a police car parked in front of the office, and a man walked by saying he could not find his wallet and bag. I did not feel safe in this area.

The staff was excellent. Especially Isabell. I paid extra for the executive suite- includes microwave and refrigerator. I check into a room that the microwave and the refrigerator was sooooooo rusty and frightening looking that I never put anything in them under any situation. I reported my concerns. I asked for the extra cost back. I was told I couldn’t have a refund for the extra I paid. I was offered another room. That room had a better refrigerator so I took it. But the microwave was too rusty to use. Mattress was too lumpy.

I’ll probably stay here again, but might try the Executive Inn next door for an elevated but probably still cheap stay.

i had a “safe” place to sleep that’s all that truly mattered. surrounding neighborhood is pretty sketchy but that’s oakland for you. pretty big drug bust outside my room on my first day which was pretty shocking, but if you need a place to sleep this is the place to be, just lock up your car.

Transients sleeping in tents and cars by the hotel. Check in at a teller style security window with no access to a lobby. Bed smelled like cigarette smoke in a no smoking room.

Room was clean. Toilet bowl cover had to be moved in order to flush. There were abandoned cars and homeless people living in the parking lot. I had to leave my ID in exchange to use the iron and board - and I had to go get it and walk it back… super weird. The lobby was closed to guests, so just a walk up window from the parking lot. If staff is scared, makes me feel unsafe. The AC unit in the room was damaged, and the heater didn’t work - I was freezing. The phone was ripped out of the wall, so I couldn’t call the front desk. Also, they only provide a bar of soap - and I forgot shampoo. UGH

No lobby, you checked in at a window, keys kept quitting on us and had to keep going to window to get them reset

Homeless people sleep on the property in a tent with a dog barking all night all day the rooms are moldy it's REALLY TRASHY IN OAKLAND I DONT RECOMMEND NOBODY STAY HERE OR IN OAKLAND

I got a room on the second floor at the back, and the view of the pier was incredible. This is always my go to place when I come back to visit in the Bay. The lady who checked me in and out is the nicest, sweetest, most professional worker I have met at a motel in general. Room heater needs repair but works. Didn't use internet I have my own so im not sure about that. Parking was fine. Definitely pet-friendly, people were walking there dogs all day lol. The staff....maybe needs a course in how to address problems. I was driving in traffic for two hours. I waited patiently for my turn and got my key only the key didn't work. Neither did the new key. I mentioned I just needed to use the restroom but the staff didn't care, they just kept giving me keys. This was after I waited over 30 minutes for someone to come back from their lunch break. The next day the key to my room stopped working after I made sure it was untouched and in the sleeve I got it in. The staff talked to me as if I did something wrong, and then felt caught off guard when I gave them the business end about it. Sorry you paid for crappy keys. Next time don't blame guests for your cheap supplies. Room doesn't come with microwave or refrigerator so don't buy food to keep in there. A lot of police activity my second day. When I went to checkout there was an Police SUV parked in the lot. It's an ok place to sleep but I wouldn't stay here too long.

Great place if you are traveling with pets

The property is a bit worn down but the rooms are clean. If you get a room in the back you have a beautiful view of the water. Downside... there are no restaurants.

Booked a room with two queen beds and a fridge. I’ve been to this hotel plenty of times and every stay I’ve has been fairly great. The only downsides to the room I had was that the tv especially cable wasn’t good. It had static and was pausing a lot, the shower head was also shooting water from the top of the pipe. I had both issues addressed on the third day of my stay due to me leaving and coming back so I didn’t have time to complain. Between the workers I talked to and the repairman who was able to fix both issues I would say I was happy to stay there and that everything was resolved properly. I will be going back especially with my fur babies.

Be careful if you stay longer than one night and don’t have them clean your room. We never had room service for three nights this includes no new towels or sheets either. Also I asked for a broom to sweep out the room we were on the first floor in the back grassy area so dirt and debris followed us inside our sheet and towels were dirty at checkout because they were never changed however they used this to keep my deposit of $100 and banned me from the hotel grounds all together stating that one of the towels had to be thrown away. I used the towel to wipe the floors down before checkout thinking I was cleaning it up and I reminded them every day that we needed new linens but never recieved any. The front desk kept telling me that the maids would bring them but they never did and on the second night we left the room for four hours giving them notice that we would be gone so they could clean the room it wasn’t until after we returned to our dirty room did the front desk tell me they don’t clean rooms that guests are staying in so we wasted half a day staying away for nothing. I think it’s intentional so they can pocket your deposits.

This hotel was filthy, holes in the sheets, broken toilet door, air conditioner so dirty it couldn’t be used. Entire property smells strongly of cannibis.

The room was gross. Blood stains and black tar stains on the sheets. Foul odor from table and bathroom. When we told staff about it they only said its non refundable. We checked out and left that night without even sleeping there. Drove 12 hours home without sleep but it was better than staying in that filth.

The room was so cold even with the heat on.. the bathroom floor had gaps in the wood and my son cut his toe.

The bed was comfortable No breakfast, no coffee, no vending machines worked,ice machine was down, I asked for room service the staff left two towels only no clean bedding at all,I left a hand made blanket accidentally called the office to report it the guy said he would check into it and call me back,never did he and the price is to much for such bad service

The amenities were none; the rooms did not even have basic coffee makers, and there was no central Ice machine. The staff was overwhelmed and this left a bad taste in the customers ' mouths . This place can use an upgrade in so many areas

Great location on the water and close by Jack London Aquatic Center and Jack London Square, and no extra fee for my dog to stay. Room on side of morel facing parking lot had a lot of late night noise from the parking lot, and others coming and going. No fridge or coffee maker in the room.

I liked nothing about it People who had no rooms at the motel were hanging out around my vehicle looking inside and looking towards my room until police showed up and they all scattered. Property management did nothing for the first hour and a half. Not sure they the ones called police. But as soon as they left, I grabbed my belongings from my room and drove back home. So the $200 I paid for reservations for 2 nights was a loss. I wasn't about to lose my vehicle also had I stood. I know now to get reviews of surrounding businesses before I reserve another room anywhere. That was the most expensive 1 1/2 hr stay

I had a wonderful stay here at the Motel 6, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was well kept and serviced. Being by the waterfront was awesome too. My pets got to stay for free and were welcomed. I would recommend and would stay again.

Never in my life had a check-in done at side window, like those seen at banks or drive-through pharmacies, barely able to communicate with the receptionist and 3 trips back and forth because the room door would not open. When finally the receptionist sent someone with us to the room to see why the door would not open, the staff guy showed us how to smash hard the handle with your fist, like a hammer, to actually open it. Then he was very rude, acusing us that we should have done a better job checking the door before claiming that is not opening. Although the room was clean, it smelled badly of smoke and Marijuana. The cigarette smell got into our coats and I smeled the stenched in our car, the entire drive back home. The mattress was so bad that I reached the flatbed when I sat on it, and I am only 140 lb. It was only one night stay to avoid driving at night in the rain after a late night event. You get what you pay for. I would never choose to stay at a Motel 6 again, unless I am really forced to do so.

The Air conditioner/heater didn’t work, could see outside light between the door and the frame and under the door. There is cement /mortar on the sink. The bathroom doorframe paint is peeling, tape on the baseboard. They didn’t have any extra blankets. . I have pictures but this app won’t let me post any pictures.

I booked for 2 occupancy, and it was only one chair at the table. There was hairs in the tub, and in one of the beds. Also the tub looked very dirty. There was no clock, tissues, iron or ironing board. Also, the keys, didn't work, so maintenance had to come and let us in the room. Finally, there was a used c****m on the ground in the parking lot. This was the worst experience I've ever had.

Arrived to Motel 6, and the lobby was closed for over 30 min. There was one person standing in line. Once the solo staff member returned to the lobby, he proceeding to help the gentlemen standing in line. Staff handing this gentlemen some forms and the gentlemen left the window to return to his car. I was next in line and proceeded to the window. The Staff member said, I can’t help you until the gentlemen comes back so if you don’t mind waiting. I said sure. The gentlemen returned and was assisted and he left to his assigned room. I then went back up to the window and began my check-in process. I too was handed forms to fill out which included my vehicle information. I left the window to retrieve the info and then returned back to the window. The same Solo Staff told me, I had to wait in line and the he was helping another person and because I left, it was no longer my turn to be served. I was PERPLEXED !!! I said to this Staff member, I said wait a minute, you allowed the guy standing in front of me, the opportunity to return to the window, after leaving, without losing his place in line so, what’s the deal. This Staff member huffed and puffed and damn near blew my house down! I have NEVER received such piss poor hospitality that was exceedingly unprofessional and down right RUDE. A person standing behind me was watching all this unfold and said “ I never leave reviews but I’m definitely leaving one after seeing how you were treated”!

Only 1 person staffs the office, and he was constantly going on break and making people wait. This is ridiculous for a hotel of this size when people are checking in constantly. When I arrived the sign said Back in 15 minutes.There were 3 parties that needed to check in, so I waited an unacceptably long time which made me late for my event nearby. The room I was assigned hadn't been cleaned, so I immediately went back to the office only to find a new sign up saying Back in 30 minutes! I banged on the window and the guy finally came to help me, but he complained that he wasn't getting paid to help me because it was his lunch break. That's not my problem. While waiting I saw a young lady in a very short skirt, thong underwear, and high heels saunter across the parking lot heading for one of the rooms. It's that kind of neighborhood. Most of the other guests I saw there looked very sad and beaten down by life, as though this was their last stop before homelessness. The new room I was given had a broken AC unit; all the buttons were busted out so I couldn't turn it on. The location is excellent and the view on the water is magnificent, but the hotel itself is a disaster.

The room was clean and super basic. NO REFRIGERATOR OR MICROWAVE. NO HAIR DRYER AND NO COFFEE POT. Split AC unit worked but was super loud. The staff was professional but not super friendly. Parking was far from the room and the parking lot was extremely dirty with litter and garbage lying on the ground. Most areas of parkingvlot were dark and did not feel safe. Felt that at $120 a night the room should of come with some basic amenities such as a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, and haur dryer. There were 2 bars of soap near the sink, but NO shampoo and conditioner. Luckily I had packed my own!! Very very basic room. Good for 1 night. Bed was rock hard. 2 small pillows provided. I will look elsewhere next time for accommodations.

There were pimps and prostitutes doing business out of the hotel the first night i arrived with my child. The hotel has homeless people living in the property and the parking lot has cars with broken windows and cars with boots on. If i could have gotten a refund i would have never checked in.

For my own reasons I choose this location, but now, the morning coffee is no longer offered and the microwave was removed. Not happy about that.

I arrived around 1pm and asked about early checkin. I was told there were no rooms available until 2:30, so I waited in the parking lot. The attendant put a sign on the window at 2:20, stating "Back in 30 mins". At 3pm there was a line formed wa s line formed waiting to checkin. We all waited for over an hour, with no updates from staff about when someone would start checking guests in. A guy arrived sometime after 4pm.

The staff members are very friendly, always trying to do their best, but the motel is falling apart, everything is extremely old, plumbing issues, blankets with holes in them, very old pillows, no shampoo. Beautiful view of the Embarcadero but sadly obscured by homeless camping very near to the premises, security issues.They accept pets for free and parking is free too.

I've stayed here before and loved it because it's by the water. Currently there's many unhoused people near the property - however they were much more polite than the man who checked me in. Because I initially planned on having someone stay with me and then the plan changed he continued to chastise me acting as if I was going to sneak him in. The way he interrogated me about the stay and threatened to charge me more made me feel as if he expected me to be a working girl with a line of men standing outside. I was horrified and felt harassed by his raised voice and demeanor - but since I could not get a refund I'm unfortunately staying the night.

Liz canceled my stay because I came in after 3:00am my plain was late coming in and now I had to sleep in my rental car , also this lady was so disrespectful that I suggested more training Especially being the night audit, she was very rude and unsettled I think that she was using drugs behind the counter as I recognized powder on her nose, and in a bill that she was holding.

I really appreciated the staff member Stephanie. She was extremely helpful and professional. I would not hesitate to recommend her wonderful service to anyone. Thank you.

The ice machine consistently does not work. The lobby to the main office is closed to customers who have booked rooms. Additionally, they have changed their policy to applying a hold on your credit card for incidentals, which is not disclosed until you arrive at the property....this is Motel 6, not some luxury hotel. Horrible service and the property is dirty. I will not return.

Overall terrible experience. Room lacked amenities. Sheets on the bed were (hopefully) clean but stained. Noise all night, from loud footsteps above to car alarms in the parking lot. The area is a demilitarized zone. Totally unsafe.

The only problem was a very bright light right outside my window, and the curtains didn't keep out all the light. I liked the taco truck parked right outside on the road - good food, and very convenient.

I did not feel as though I was safe staying in this hotel. It had been many years since I had stayed at this location. In the past I felt safe and comfortable.

Everybody knows what a Motel 6 is like.

Location is nice, on the waterfront, but the room was very basic and not very good condition. For this area it’s a good price, though, so I’ll forgive the condition. I’d recommend an upstairs room if you want to enjoy the view.

Room and location was great for the event i was attending. High Police presence i don't know if that was good are bad. Overall great stayed .

The location is lovely, right on the Oakland estuary. The staff is friendly. I do recommend it for vehicle users. It's doable by public transportation, but not great.

The room had flies and mosquitos in it. The bedding was clean and there was no trash, however, the room also smelled. The refrigerator also smelled. The property is not in the nicest part of town. The view in the back is amazing. The price for the hotel is super affordable but for good reason. It is centrally located to everything and food is close by. In the end… you get what you pay for. If it’s just adults and you have a bit of street smarts… you will do just fine at this hotel.

It is run down, bare bones and well lit because of safety issues. It is in a beautiful location. It is cheap How it got a 7.2 rating is a real mystery.

Unsafe, check-in is through a bulletproof window, armed security guard stands near office. Wall plugs next to the beds are nonfunctional, so is the phone. Sheet has large black marks, beddings pillows are all of low-quality materials. No refrigerator, no microwave, no tissue, no shampoo. 5G connection super poor, due to security concerns, I won’t use wifi. Will not stay here again.

Room has roaches and bugs in the bed. Front desk was rude and disrespectful.

We paid for the most expensive "DELUXE" room according to advertisement. But, everything was broken & filthy. It did not look like ad pictures. I took photos of everything as evidence. Broken: T.V., air conditioner, no heater function, outlet, No HOT water. Damaged: doors, wall corners, front drapes, shower curtain thin flimsy fabric. No inner shower curtain liner. Gaps around front door let in cold breeze, fridge NOT cold & without freezer, no comforter. VERY filthy air conditioner filters, walls doors, walls, tub, & floor. People live there with kids outside Unsupervised, Screaming, & blowing whistles. We paid in advance for a week stay. Because we complained about some of these conditions...the management had us leave prior to the last night we already paid for. But, we still have NOT received our refund for that night!

I'm happy with my experience. Check-in was fast and easy, the bed was decently comfy, the towels were not too scratchy; well, the bed frame looked like an animal had literally chewed it up all around the sides, but there's nothing they can really do about that. It was very clean inside & the grounds were kept well. Our room overlooked the harbor which was pretty nice. However, just a heads up, at exactly 8am, the loudspeakers down at the pier played a SUPER loud song that was over a minute long. So it might not be good if you have a baby or insomnia. But otherwise it's definitely a great budget-friendly option.

I did like the property. It was a good locatiom for our trip. The property itself needs updating. There was a lot of police activity during our stay.

We were only staying for one night, but this hotel is sort of on the bad side of town so lots of seedy people outside. The hotel room wasn’t bad but there were some questionable spots throughout it.

No smoking rooms and as soon as we opened door very apparent that people were smoking in here.

THE SHOWER WAS COLD! Room smelled like an ash tray, mattress was super old and the coils were uncomfortable, the floor was nasty and felt dirty. Was very uncomfortable stay. Kept luggage on the table in fear of bugs.

We were there from Oregon for a family funeral. The hotel staff were all very nice for the most part. They did all business through a little window, and never open the lobby. Not a fan of this way of doing business. Room was fairly clean, but the bathroom floor was not swept well. The TV was barely hanging in the little cubby, and I was worried it would fall out. As always I appreciate we were able to bring our pups!
