Hotel Lydia

Underwhelmed. Wasn't great by any stretch, but wasn't outright terrible. Property has 2 buildings, and 2nd building -where I was given a room- didn't have an elevator. When I asked to get a room in 1st building, I was told the rooms there were an additional cost (i think an additional $30/night.) Nowhere did I see this in the information when I booked online. The stairs in the 2nd building looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in awhile. The room was clean, good number of towels, good water pressure, good size TV and small fridge, but there was a roach in the bathroom. The walls are paper thin and I could hear the conversation in the next room. I likely will not ever book here again, but the no-frills, no elevator property may work for others.

We love staying here, bit this time we had above tenants that were extremely loud. If family's plan to stay please keep your kids feet quiet if in a 2 and up floor.

the bar was well stocked and very clean. Staff were all extremely welcoming and made the experience great. Rooms were clean and breakfast was fine.

If you choose this hotel, go with the knowledge that the “Superior” rooms are simply nicely remodeled motel rooms, with the doors facing the parking lot.

Rooms were big. All opened to the common area. Bathroom could have been cleaner. No ice machines. You can buy bags at the office. Breakfast pretty good. Served from 6-9:30, not 6-8 like their website says. Also has a bar with a nice view. Happy hour is 5-7, not 4-6. Breakfast lady and bartenders very nice.

We enjoyed it but our toilet seat was dirty and the Breakfast was pitiful. The coffee was good.

The breakfast was mediocre and served in a dank, windowless common room.

Construction going on around hotel. Hallway in front of room constantly had air blower on drying out carpet (probably due to leak), smelled of mold. Breakfast was a bust. What they don't tell you is breakfast is muffins, bagels, bananas, small, boxed cereal. Walls were paper thin and you could hear a toddler in one of the rooms throwing a fit around 4 a.m. Staff was very accommodating, allowed us on first floor due to my cancer.

Good place to stay to go fishing

Hands down the best hotel at the coast!!! They even have their own bar with happy hour. My daughter left sentimental items and the room. Staff collected them and held them till I was able to come back and pick them up. Great spot!

Found this place last year after staying at other hotels in Port A and I can say the rooms are big with comfy beds, awesome AC and their continental breakfast is really good, lots to choose from. Parking can be short and tight if the hotel is fully booked but overall have not had any issues once staying at this hotel. Staff are cordial. Have not tried the bar but I hear its nice. Will stay here again.

The hotel was amazing, beds are super comfortable and also the shower water pressure was great. I highly recommend if you’re staying in Port Aransas.

They want you to pay 25$ more per night to stay in the building with an elevator.

Then I asked where the ice machine was. "We don't have ice anymore because people were filling up ice chests and they kept breaking." But we have ice in the building next door that you can come get and buy! I wasn't impressed with that at all.

Would I stay again? Possibly but only in one of the outer rooms with a balcony so we have access to fresh air.

The room was clean-ish but old and musty. There was mold in the shower area. I left before the stay was over and rebooked in another hotel.

The service, location, and facility were fantastic. Nick at the bar was great. He even invented a drink on the spot. Stop by and ask for the “Nick” next time you’re on the island. We love Port Aransas and have been visiting for years. We have an electric golf cart and have always registered it, this allows us to bring it with us. We always stay at the same place because they allow us to charge it whenever we need to. When I arrived at Hotel Lydia I asked about the ability to charge our cart and was told that the owners do not allow this. They even have designated golf cart parking but no capability of charging. To us, golf carting is the only way to truly enjoy Port Aransas, so this is a deal breaker and we will not be returning to Hotel Lydia. This one issue aside, it was a great experience.

It was clean and everyone was friendly Nothing

The check in was quick. The breakfast is a bit lacking as there isn’t a traditional breakfast (pancakes, eggs, bacon, waffles, etc.). Just basic food like muffins, yogurt, toast. For the price per night, it should definitely be of a better quality.

It was a clean room and the staff was great. The breakfast wasn’t great but it was overall a great place to stay.

Im not sure was it was our room but AC wasn’t working properly and our toilet wasn’t flushing. The breakfast bar was sad and just serve store bought frozen kolaches. The hotel itself is nice but there’s just couple of flaws we weren’t amazed

The hotel was very convenient to the ferry. It was under renovations, but that was not an issue at all. They gave us free drink coupons for each night and we really loved the bar. There was a woman who was a temporary bartender who was wonderful. They had a very nice buffet breakfast as well. Our room was clean and quiet.

My family always loves to stay here but this trip was just a bit different. We stayed in room 125 and have stayed in this room before with no issues. The first night we could hear a banging on the bedside wall every now and again all night. I called the next morning and the gentleman at the register said it may have been the dryer vents flapping through the storm which was understandable. But the next day we continued to hear it with really no wind or storm happening. Around 11:30pm I got out of bed to go see if I can see where the noise was coming from. The laundry door was locked to I went outside and really couldn’t see anything. I went to the office and some so the the young lady working and advised me that she would check it out. Well the noise continued and we didn’t get much sleep because of it. I never want to stay in room 125 again.

Location Nothing

Close to ferry and beach, made it convenient to travel around. Complimentary breakfast was very filling and had a good amount of options.

Our room was spacious, it was great! And it was nice to step out of our room to continental breakfast, so convenient! It was awesome and all in just a relaxing vibe, and the staff who setup the breakfast she was super amazing!!

We stayed in the new building which was nicely appointed. I would stay again for sure.

Just wish there was a pool. Everything else was great .

Great place to visit

This hotel is very nice and conveniently located. Only drawback was our room (room 140) was next door to the staff room. They ran laundry and were cleaning early in the morning. Not a super big deal as we are early risers but if you like to sleep in, don’t stay in that room. Other than that, our stay was wonderful!

Breakfast was over too early. We're disabled and had to pay an extra $100 to stay on the first floor in the new side. Over priced. I'll continue to stay at Best Western. I only pay $150 and I paid $235 to stay at your hotel.

Breakfast was good, parking was excellent, daytime clerk very nice, cleaning staff very responsive and nice. Bar upstairs and bartender superb, our room air conditioner could be looked at, was making clanking noises all night (room 129) daytime clerk very nice , nighttime clerk could use some friendly ness training, I explained in a return email we had a small service dog and I received a response stating we can accommodate that upon arrival but nighttime clerk didn't get memo I guess....

The bartender Nick was cool;got to use the drink tickets the front desk gave us. The first balcony room we stayed in was nice. My gf said the floor could have been cleaned better, I didn't notice anything. And then the second room we stayed in had a odd smell.

The hotel overbooked our king room but upgraded our room to a balcony/kitchenette with 2 queen beds for the same price and we loved it! Beds were comfy, room super clean, AC was cold and bathroom was nice! Plus gave us drink coupons for the bar. We really enjoyed our stay and we’ll be back!

Stayed in a new room and everything about it was phenomenal! Can’t think of a thing!

We have stayed here 4 years in a row now. This was the first time after all the updates. My showere was dirty, bathroom door didnt close, we had issues with the ac, and there was this weird popping sound coming out of the loud fan in the bathroom. I was pretty disappointed this time.

From the location being right by the ferry entrance to the place itself was amazing. Highly recommend

No pool or hot tub

The space and amenities we had although dirty Some parts were dirty, the refrigerator wasn’t great, bathroom had mold in it, the sheets made you feel sweaty.

Rooms are perfect, clean and very large, breakfast is out right on time and the coffee is always fresh!!!

The staff was amazing n friendly…. So very clean n nice smelling n spacious…. The only thing I didn’t like was no pool or hot tub… no place to sit out side in the afternoon. Ohhh and the bar… it was also great. We took our 13 month old and her walker n we all had a blast. Debbie was the most kind n gracious person we ran into there… we will definitely be back even if just to visit her. 💖

Stayed here for Sand Fest. Excellent location! You just walk around the boat launch slips and the free shuttle is right there. There are nicer places to stay but everyone was friendly and helpful. And it’s not a bad place just not a 5 star resort. But good water pressure and a nice bar on the 3rd floor.

Aside from being under construction still, the hotel was beautiful and had great amenities. A very nice breakfast that is not only on time but open early for early risers. The bar has a wonderful view from the 3rd floor. Great value and location for the price. I will be staying there again.

Great overnight staff! Clean and safe hotel. Breakfast and coffee were good. The toiletries were micro sized and not full. The shower has a small step and no grab bars. You can hear quite a bit through the walls but it’s still a very nice place to stay. No pool or spa

Perfect place to stay

We always stay here when on the island! Such a clean and friendly place as well as great staff minus the bartender. He had a terrible attitude and was constantly going outside to chain smoke. Other than that everything was great as always!

It’s a good clean place. Nothing fancy. No pool, no hot breakfast, but a very decent place. Rooms are spacious. My king size had a ceiling fan which you do not often find in these types of hotels.

The room was clean, staff was friendly and helpful, parking was plenty and the decor was great! There aren’t any amenities but does have a bar on the new side. The area is walkable to Robert Point Park and some restaurants. This is my second time booking here and I would recommend.

The location was very convenient. The staff were courteous and helpful. The room itself was amazing! Very comfortable beds, beautiful view, and the kitchenette was equipped with all the necessities.

Not all rooms have elevator access. Carpets are old. Needs an update. Staff works hard to keep it clean. Okay breakfast. Office is not easy to locate. Nice view from new bar on the top floor.

Overall a very clean hotel and room. The kitchenette had everything you’d need in order to cook and prepare a meal. The room was spacious, the beds were comfortable, and the staff were great. The location is also great as you’re within walking distance to shops and restaurants. We’ll definitely be staying here, again.

The room was great. We had a balcony room and watched the New Years Eve fireworks right from our room with the PERFECT view!

The staff, room quality, and cleanliness

The new building is minimalism at its finest. Love no carpet. Bed was good. Lots of pillows and plenty of towels. A little bright from the outside lights but otherwise perfect for a quick getaway!

Formerly. The Place. Which, when it was just The Place it smelled good. Now. When you walk in, it stinks of must. Not overpowering, but bad. The rooms stink until you get the AC going. I put an air freshener by the AC so it smelled better. It is probably the old carpet. Beds are always comfortable. Linens are always nice. Room always clean. Bathrooms always clean. We will always stay here a few times a year. Just wish they would fix the smell.

The view

The room was nice. Perfect location, nice staff. The bed could be replaced. There was a dip in it that made it uncomfortable for me. But the room itself was good.

I have to start off by saying for the price we paid it was fine for a one night stay. I am really surprised by the reviews. The location was great. Front desk gentleman was not the most welcoming or friendly-was actually very short and almost rude to my husband when we were checking in. The room was clean but the lighting in the room wasn’t the best. There was a strange smell in the lobby of the building we stayed in but to their defense, we were forewarned by the hotel that they are undergoing some renovations. Continental breakfast did not have much to offer. Overall, it is what you would expect from a 2.5 star hotel.

The bar on the third floor offers fantastic views, perfect for enjoying a drink while watching the sunset. Highly recommended.

The room was spotless and smelled so fresh throughout the whole place. The bath amenities were sufficient as I requested for disability.

All was good. It would be nice if the ice machine was operational. Breakfast in paper bags, containing water bottle, fruit/cup, Danish, was an interesting concept. Room was clean and comfortable. Staffers were attentive and nice.

We’ve always stayed in this hotel whenever we are in Port Aransas. It is clean, safe and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and accommodating. This recent stay, we were upgraded to their new building. It has the same spacious room and had the complete amenities to make your stay comfortable. It is very clean and very homey. Thank you to Theresa who was took care of us this latest visit. She has always been very nice and always has a way of greeting us with a warm and sincere welcome.

The check-in was great and staff were friendly. The hotel is cute. Upon the arrival to the room it was very musty smelling and my son who has allergies and asthma had issues having to use his inhaler frequently. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the shower has great water pressure. When asked about ice, I was told there was none in our building but next door I could get a small bag for a dollar. I was like what the heck, it’s the same place I checked in at. The breakfast was a disappointment. They gave you a sack with a muffin, pastry, apple and water in it. Thankfully they did have instant oatmeal packets. No juice or anything else besides coffee was available. They didn’t even have cereal which is sad. It was in a decent location, was easy to walk to festivities and restaurants.

Our room was in the former Place Hotel building which always had great music playing when you walked in but smelled pretty musty. We were in a room just outside the breakfast area which was super convenient. It was also adjacent to the breakfast prep room for staff which was horrible because they were in there banging around at 5am each morning so there was no sleeping in.

Also we disappointed to find the free breakfast was a continental breakfast.

We stayed here when in town for one night for a baby shower. The location was convenient to many attractions: ferry landing, fishing outfitter, and places to eat. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The accommodations were modern and appealing. The room was spotless and the beds were very comfortable. Only "issues" were that there is no ice machine on premises (you can buy ice in the little store in the office), and the breakfast would be nice if there were some protein options. Breakfast is more grab-and-go stuff. But the stay was amazing. Definitely recommend this hotel and will likely stay there again!

We liked the first floor dining area it had many tables and a tv. the room was clean and nicely decorated. the bad thing about the building is there was no elevator, if there was i did not see it. with my back injury is was tough climbing the stairs with the luggage. I asked for a 1st floor room but none was available.

The handicap accessibility was amazing. The room was so spacious, able to maneuver with no problems. Enjoyed fish from across the street at Fins. Highly recommend

First time to stay here after rebranding. Stayed in the same room as a number of times in the past. Room was fine as always. Staff was friendly and helpful. New lobby was nice. Breakfast basic but nice as usual. But was shocked that the ice machine had been removed and you had to buy ice in the lobby. Not that much money, but a place that has free internet and free breakfast should not nickel and dime you for ice. Also I’m not a coffee drinker, but my wife is, and she missed the 24/7 hot coffee that used to be available. Sure there’s a small Keurig in the rooms, but she preferred the old system.

The building we were in didn’t have an elevator makes luggage an issue. The front door was so heavy a full grown adult can barely open it. Staff cleaned our room only did one bed and left the door open when they left! We found it open at 10:30 pm when we returned from a wedding.

But the beds are very comfortable. One thing that we can say is that the shower is awesome because it has a hard stream. And it also nice soft water(not hard) We will definitely stay here again because it’s a good price for what you get…. But I just wish they would do something about the smell. We stayed at THE Place. Hotel Lydia looks nice, so we may stay there at some point.

The Breakfast lady Debbie was very sweet and helpful. She was also telling us about the area and the best restaurants to dine. Unfortunately, we had trouble with the entrance to the hotel. The doors were very heavy to open for anyone disabled. There were no buttons to push for them to open like at the Lydia. Hopefully, they will be added in time. I went to get ice but there is no ice machine in the building so they worker there said I would have to go the other building to find some.

Had an amazing stay! The rooms are clean, newly renovated and really nice. Location is fantastic for food and fun for families since it’s located walking distance to Robert’s Point Park. Will absolutely come again!

The hotel is a good place to stay. The only issue, right at 5:40a, guests and staff start moving around where a person cannot sleep in past 6:30 or 7a. Otherwise, we had a good time! This wasn't our first time nor will it be our last. This is a great hotel to stay for vacation, hang out at the beach, or just getting away from it all!😎Thx again!

Was nervous to book for the low cost and a few reviews.. but wow .. it’s was way nicer than what the pics show and the room was perfect, beds comfortable and coffee provided in the am. Cross the steet in the morning walked to the marina and jumped on a skiff and stick some beautiful reds..

Room was clean, AC work well, overall a pleasant stay

We were very disappointed with the beds that were so soft we sunk, and we're not overweight. The wall construction is paper thin. We could hear conversation next door, outside, and the snoring guests on either side of us. I wish we had a better stay that was restful.

Had a great visit at the property. Only downfall is no elevator in Horizon building we stayed in.

The room was incredibly large, the staff great and bed was reasonably comfortable. Our issues were terrible interior lighting (one light didn’t work and what did wasn’t sufficient. The carpet needed to be cleaned as my socks and feet got dirty walking around in it. But other than that, I’d say it was great. I told the front desk when we left (2 night stay) and they were very receptive to my comments.

We come to Port A every year, chose this hotel as a new place to stay. We booked a deluxe room & upon entering the room it smelled like wet dog & mildew. We asked to try another room. The attendant was polite & let us try another room. It smelled as bad as the first room. We figured it was the carpet. He told us that building was scheduled for renovations & that the other building had just been renovated. We had selected the deluxe room because of cigarette smoke allergies & figured no one would be outside our door smoking. People stood right outside the front door & smoked. 1st day there a lady sat in her lawn chair by the front door & smoked for hours. We took a chance on the Prime room in the renovated building & there were no smells. We did get charged more for the "newness". The decor was nice. We had two queen beds. Both beds were uncomfortable. When lying down, a hump would form in the middle, causing you to feel like you were going to fall out of the bed. It was difficult to find a comfortable spot to sleep. The light blocking curtains were terrible. There was a very bright light outside the room all night and the curtains didn't block the light at all. I had to take pillows from the couch & stuff them along the window sill to try to block the light. I wish I'd picked the pool hotel instead. The breakfast was continental, nothing special.

Probably one of the most comfortable beds for a hotel. Was very clean and quiet . I recommend this hotel and will be staying on our trips to the coast .

Front desk staff was awesome. New building but our room was a little dirty. Small Stain on toilet and shower. Didn't male a big deal cuz i was needing somewhere to rest for the night as to we go here to fish all day.

Super cute place! Colorful and CLEAN rooms. Also pretty quiet, felt safe, which is a priority for me. I will say, you could hear people walking by the room. So, it wasn’t fully sound proof, but overall a great place to stay!

I recommend staying here. The new renovations are modern, colorful and fun. The room was clean and cool. The Continental breakfast was just right to start the day. Nothing crazy but just right. Only thing I would like is an area to sit outside. Maybe thats part of the remodel.

This hotel was a great choice for our family trip. It appears to be newly renovated, and the facilities are in great condition. We were especially impressed with the comfortable beds and the excellent shower. The breakfast was decent, although we wished there were a few more items to choose from. Still, we really liked the hotel and would recommend it.

The staff was very friendly, I love how helpful and sweet they were. The room smelled a bit musky, and after we checked out my throat was starting to hurt and feeling sick. The breakfast was subpar just sweet breads, coffee and cereal.

Two items I would "down rate" on; there was no ice machine, always had to go to the main building to purchase bags when needed, and there was no closet in the room. Need to add a wardrobe.

Arrived early with 2 cars in the entire parking lot and was told I’d have to pay $25/hr that I was early, mind you the entire night cost $70. I was out in a room that was directly across from the main lobby/breakfast area. All night long I heard noise and then promptly at 5:25 AM was woken up to the staff setting up the breakfast area on the other side of my door. Unsure of whether it was a staff member or another guest, but from 5:45 AM-7 AM, they had a very loud conversation on speakerphone with a friend right outside my door. I was unable to get any sleep prior to all of this because of how loud the AC unit was, it sounded like a helicopter. I also attempted to go to the “new bar” that had been open for 2 full months and after leaving noticed my card was charged $50 when my bill was $12.72 with tip. I went back later and what questioned the bartender who stated he forgot to inform me my drink would have a $50 hold. This is in addition to the $75 hold from the hotel right downstairs. Overall, terrible experience and on my birthday of all days.

The rooms were kind of hot at night even with the air on 69. Also the building we were staying in did not have a front desk, front desk and any person you needed to talk to for anything was clear across the parking lot in another building. Other than that the hotel is nice and reasonable and in a perfect location!

When we go to port a I’ve always stayed here! Never had a problem

Parking was way to crowded had to park far from our room. They tried charging us for our rooms again.

I was pleasantly surprised with our stay at Hotel Lydia. While the hotel had the island character on the exterior, the hotel room was modern, clean, and spacious. There was great air conditioning and a ceiling fan in the room which made the room nice and cold for the night. Would highly recommend this Hotel to others staying in Port A!

Hotel under construction. Multiple buildings. New room was great. Breakfast was served in another building beside the hotel and was abysmal.

Everything about the property was excellent except for the air conditioning. It just did not feel like it was capable of adequately cooling the room.

This is a newly remodeled hotel. One of the best we’ve stayed at on the island. Has a nice breakfast. They also have a bar on the 3rd floor. Easy access right by the ferry.

When we went they were still in the process of construction to update and of course our room was in the older part of the hotel. It was hot and pillows and bed were not comfortable.

Staff was wonderful and accommodations were outstanding. The room was quite large and bed was comfortable. It’s close to anything you needed.

The check-in was nice. The hotel was nicely decorated and welcoming. Coffee was ready every morning with breakfast too. Keurig in the room was a nice touch. Staff was very helpful 🙂

Property is nice and clean. Beds are very comfortable. Lobby staff was great! We even got to check in early. Location to beach is a 2 min drive…which was perfect for us. We stayed in the newer section. Will definitely stay here again!!!

Book hotel lydia its a brand new hotel, hotel place has very old carpet and smells of mold.

We enjoyed our stay with the community park and cruise tours just across the hotel.

I booked a room at The Place hotel which appeared to be undergoing renovation and/or a name change to Hotel Lydia. Aside from the check-in/front desk area being very hard to find (I nearly walked around the entire bldg to find it), with just a small unassuming taped up sign on the door, which I assume was renovation related, everything else was perfect. My 1st floor room on the Hotel Lydia side exceeded my expectations for a beach area hotel in port Aransas. Incredibly clean, free parking, great location, friendly staff, ceiling fan, microwave, mini fridge, Keurig, giant TV. They sell bags of ice which was convenient. I highly recommend.

Close to the Ferry. Several restaurants close by. Beach is a short drive from hotel. Shopping an easy drive away. Walk to see the dolphins at sunset.

When we checked in, we had to check in at the hotel next door. That is a bit inconvenient. Then, the room they assigned us STANK horribly! I have no idea what the smell was, but it was awful. The staff did get a different room ready for us within an hour.

From the moment I arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive. Check-in was quick and seamless. The room was spotless, spacious, and beautifully decorated with a modern yet cozy feel. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort, style, and excellent service. No swimming pool and breakfast was more continental.

The room was very clean,updated and comfortable. Also, they allowed us early check in, which was very nice. The thing I would change, however, is the fact that they shut down the internet at midnight which also left us without t.v. And for night owls, isn't so great. The breakfast was just ok. But they're going through renovations, so maybe it will be better in the future. Overall it was a great comfortable stay for a decent price.
