Tropic Island Resort

I love this hotel but the bed was just plain awful and needs to be replaced.

I got bit all around my body . I don’t know if that’s due to bed bugs .

We really enjoyed the fact that we got a whole cottage with a kitchen and living room for the price of a regular hotel room. Pools were cool and had an attached snow cone shop. The place is older, so dont expect your room to look like the Hilton on the inside. We would definitely come back the next time we stay in Port A.

Don't stay here if noise will be a problem. We could hear our neighbors entire conversation. The walls are thin. Other than that I feel like this will be the place I stay at from now on, I love the pool, hot tub and pool area. The beds were comfortable and the shower was nice. The lady at the desk was really kind and helpful. Its pet friendly. We paid a $50 pet deposit for 3 nights. Not bad.

Need better housekeeping. Comfortable cottages with plenty of space. Nice swimming pool and jacuzzi cold and hot. Laid back environment. I would stay again

This place is older but has a nice charm. Staff was friendly, room was clean, & the golf cart rental right next door gave us a little discount for staying there too. The pool & hottub were a bonus, but it closes early.

We had a great time very nice place it was a well kept property very clean and the staff was very professional and courteous it's close to the beach and stores we're going back again.

I was very disappointed with my stay. The online pictures looked great, but when we arrived, everything was old. The TV didn't work, and the wifi was very slow. The shower didn't have warm water; it was either cold or hot, with no middle ground. My bed covers had stains.

It was a super cute cabin that fit my family of 4 comfortably.

Very peaceful, very clean. Just didnt like pool close at 10 pm.

We loved this place! It was the perfect place to bring kids. The pool was amazing… the shallow pool is great the littles and the bigger kids had a great time in the big pool. Snow cone shop is a great touch! Can’t wait to go back!

The rooms weren't as nice as the pictures. Floor was sandy when we first walked in. Fridge had a funny smell. Pool was nice.

Not what I was Expecting...

We stayed with our puppy and it was perfect! The room was dog-friendly and there was plenty of space for us to take her on and off leash. There was also a relaxing jetted hot tub as well as a wading pool, a lounging pool, and a swimming poll—all saltwater!

The front desk lady was hot also.

I don’t know how this “resort” has such high ratings! It it weren’t for the fact that we paid for the two days with our points from Hotels.com, we would have refused the room. The a/c, though set on 63, never cooled the room past 78! The only saving grace was the ceiling fan above the bed. Bathroom needs total makeover, tub had mold all around it and the sink was an odd gray color due to age. There wasn’t a fan or exhaust system in there so was very humid when showering. In the plus column, the water pressure was great and the room was quiet even with all rooms around us being occupied. Never will I ever book here again and we visit Port A several times a year.

The staff was easy to work with! They even called us to check on our ETA because a water line was busted on the road in front of their property. So the front entrance was blocked and they wanted to let us know. It was a 5 minute drive to the ocean and super close to several restaurants. We look forward to staying with them again next year!

Hotel room was very dated and in poor repair and not very clean Dirty hand prints on walls and door facings. No housekeeping on a 4 day stay. AC went out on last night of stay. No 24hr front desk but messaged property through Hotels.com with no response.

Worst place ever. Moved beds and found bugs . Looks like room had not been attended too for a while. When we were ready for bed pulled sheets and found sand under blankets. Found hairs in tub when went to shower!!!!!! Never again!!!!

Nice place,would stay again. Needs more dishes and pans for cooking and a bbq pit outside would be nice. Otherwise my stay was perfect.

Nice clean comfortable room. Not everything it updated buts its a great value. Will definitely stay again. Nice pool area. 2 miles straight down the road. Office staff is very friendly.

This is a really cozy place to stay. It does have retro charm but modern pool and hot tub area! Love it.

I LIKE IT SMELT GOOD NOT WET IN THE ROOM. I DID HAVE A PROBLEM NO ICE MACHINE, NO CONTENENTAL BREAKFAST. I ASKED FOR HANDICAP WITH EXPEDIA THE ONLY THING THAT WAS HANDICAP WAS IT WAS ON THE FIRST FLOOR AND HAD A SAFETY BAR TO GET INTO THE SHOWER. THEY SHOULD HAVE A SHOWER CHAIR THAT WOULD OF HELPED ME SHOWER MY DISABLE HUSBAND.

The room I was in was old, had a broken shower handle. The coffee maker was dirty, looked like it had not been cleaned in years. The bathroom faucets were old, dirty and broken. The pictures they show are not what the room looks like. Very disappointed in room rate for a bad place to stay.

Things were out dated dirty and broken. I would like to upload some pictures to Expedia so someone else will not experience this place. Very disappointed on our stay.

Comfortable and clean. Nice bathtub to soak in

Good location, an easy walk to the community park and Roberts Point Park for dolphin watching and the seasonal decorations. The room itself had comfortable mattress, bedding, and nice pillows. Nice body wash, lotion, and shampoo & conditioner in the bathroom. Unclear on how to get refreshed towels daily. Hot tub looked cloudy, but the pool was very nice. Walls are very thin, we had a large family staying next door, even heard snoring at night. Front desk called us the first afternoon after we checked in the previous evening and told us that there had been complaints that our dogs barked & kept neighbors up 'all night' (I guess that's why they were snoring so loud!) and that we had left the dogs in the room to 'go out'. We had arrived at around 8pm, unloaded our luggage, and walked our dogs for about an hour, got back to our room around 10 and went to bed. If the dogs had barked, they would have disturbed us FIRST before they disturbed the neighbors. Front desk person acted like I was lying when I told them this and spoke to me in a scolding tone. Dogs were with us the entire time, we were out of the room most of the day, and went to bed early each night. They would occasionally bark once or twice when the large family next door would slam doors and yell. It is not the resort's fault that there was a huge group of loud people. I do wish they'd been proactive and offered another room to either us or the giant family (presumably the complainers) to resolve the issue.

We have booked here 3 times, regular travelers to Port Aransas. The staff and resort are so above average. Love being here!!

This is a great place in the center of Old Town Port Aransas. Great to walk or rent a bike (at a separate business) and access pretty much any part of town with ease. Great cart rentals on site, also.

Nice hot tub

Absolutely the best place to stay in Port A. The Tropic Island Resort is amazing! The pool area is awesome, rooms very clean, cute room atmosphere, and staff very friendly. We will definitely be back to stay! I highly recommend!!

Very nice quaint hotel

We stayed in a cottage. It was great for our family of four. Separate queen bedroom. Nice kitchen and living room. Good place for kids to sleep. Nice tv’s and channel selection. Air conditioner and ceiling fans worked great. The pools were nice. One shallow that our two year old could walk around in and nice shaved ice and ice cream stand in the pool area. Pool area also has some games and good seating and tables. Great restaurant right across the street and others in walking distance. Will be coming back for sure.

Mold in shower. Sink stopped. Dirty floors. Beds not comfortable. I would recommend updating the bathroom and new beds

We had a great stay this weekend!! Staff was very helpful, the pool was AMAZING! We even enjoyed the hot tub! And the location was so easy to find. The only complaint we had were the beds were hard as a rock. Definitely had a difficult time falling asleep. But we are willing to come back and try a different type of room next time. The place very dirty, there was hair in the shower drain when we got there and the floors were grimy. The pool was fine and the location was good.

Rooms are good but they have paper thin walls and you can hear everything everyone says on either side of you.

The bungalow was good for a couple of nights. It was a little small for 4 people. The loft area is only good for younger people as you have to stoop to walk around. The stairs are a little scary and need a handrail. The little AC unit struggled to cool the bungalow and the loft are was too warm. There wasn’t much space to move around in the living area and kitchen. The queen bed was pretty comfortable.

Favorite part was the pool area was so nice.

Not very clean. Shower was plumbed incorrectly. Hot water on cold indicator and vice versa. Pocket doors on bathroom did not operate or close correctly. Shower door was off the track. Both recliners in living room were broken.

This is the place to go if you like the smell of weed. It reeked of MJ. The room was dated and the bathroom needs a total makeover. The floor was dirty. The bed was clean. One positive the room was nice and cool.

Our stay was terrible! Me, my husband, and my daughter rented the bungalow for her birthday for 3 nights! Couldn't check in until 3pm, which is kinda late after a long drive to really enjoy anything! As soon as we entered our bungalow, you're hit with unbearable heat! And I don't care what you say but that is not an A/C in the room! That is an air circulator! Not an A/C! After a hot and long drive all you wanna do is cool off and relax but couldn't do that! Our 1st night was miserable because of the 'A/C'! It's definitely small for a family of 3. So many silly sliding doors that were coming off the rollers, especially the bathroom! The sliding door in the shower kept coming off the rollers so water leaked all over the floor! No cold water so hot showers! When it comes to flushing the toilet you had to hold it for your poop to go down the drain! The kitchen sink had no water pressure at all! Some of the rules required you to wash the dishes before you check out but how can I do that with no dang water pressure in the kitchen sink?!?! Took me forever! Upstairs was still kinda dirty with sand because it's hella small up there that housekeeping doesn't wanna clean the floor on there hands and knees! And what's with the stairs for upstairs?! So small and narrow!! I was terrified my daughter was gonna slip and fall down those steps in the middle of the night! I think I should get a refund because our stay was so terrible and miserable!! Don't stay here! Go somewhere else! Terrible!

Shower faucets didn’t work had to bathe with mostly with hot water, toilet hardly flushed bathroom area very slippery very outdated for price.

We had a wonderful stay. There was an issue with our room as far as booking through Expedia but the staff made sure we were taken care of and had us looked after. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks so much!

The pool area was nice even though one of the hot tubs was not hot or working. The room was very small and the bathroom could use an update.

Cottage was standard, but on first night the AC went out and it was unbelievably hot. I reported it and maintenance told us we froze the AC up. However, this was not the case. The following day after a miserable night I reported the AC a second time and they replaced it. Front desk staff, Tammy and Ashley were very personable and helpful. The new AC made a huge difference and we were able to sleep comfortably.

Older property, conveniently located, birding areas near by, ferry accessible only a few blocks away. Not impressed on how the property is run, no room service for bedding, towels and other normal hotel/motel amenities. Office only open during day time hours.

I stayed 4 years ago when it was new and very clean. I usually stay here. This time there was an enormous amount of gnats. Coffee pot was dirty, bathtub had mold spots, and there were fingernail clipping at the sink that were not mine.
