Reviews
The hotel is praised for its central location and friendly staff, making it a good value for the price. However, guests frequently mention issues with noise, lack of cleanliness, and absence of an elevator.

Centrally located mere blocks from the art museum, dozens of coffee shops, and parks. The staff is very obliging and friendly. It’s an older Motel, but my room was huge and had lots of windows. Parking was a challenge at the beginning because of the one-way streets, but I quickly figured it out. I would come again. It’s also air conditioned, which was great because Portland was having a heat wave.

Amazing customer service! This is the 2nd time staying here. Its a great location, quiet, plenty of things to do within walking distance. Max and Portland streetcar stops one block away. What else could you ask for?!
- 4/5
Good location, very helpful staff. Luckily got the last parking space there, not sure what I would have done otherwise.
- 5/5
The staff were awesome, great location, no complaints!

- 4/5
The property was in a good location, which was right across the street from Portland State University, in downtown Portland. There was easy access to public transportation, which was within a block away. The front desk staff were super helpful, specifically in terms of directing me on how to get to various places, via public transportation. The room was clean and decent. The property is pretty quiet. The one unique downside was that there are a certain block of rooms that you are requested not to turn off the overhead light, at the entrance to the room. This is because the wiring is such that it would also turn off power to the tv and refrigerator. I had to sleep with a mask on to counteract this. Just be mindful of this.
- 4/5
Loved that it was close to downtown and easy to walk to most places! Plus free parking for the whole stay was very nice! The parking lot was very small. We drive a Ford escape, and if our car was any bigger, I’m not sure it would have fit. But a few small stops and turns, we could get in and out okay, just tight
- 4/5
Friendly, welcoming staff. Very clean. A little on the older side, but otherwise very nice!

Location was ok. On site parking ok. Ended up itching from bedding. Whole building shook from light rail street car. Very run down room. Bathroom fixtures worn and disgusting.

Location , quick walk to keller auditorium. Definitely ideal spot. Room smelt like cigarettes and old carpet, dirty bedding, looked very run down, lighting was horrible. Parking garage is so so bad, but at least a spot to have a car so you can walk wherever you need to go. Pillows horrible and stained. Outlets weren't great. The rooms definitely need redone or atleast better quality furniture and bedding. And better pillows.

Good price at a great location. Friendly staff, but the room was less than ideal with worn-out furniture and slightly dirty bedsheets.
- 5/5
All great. Clean room, comfortable bed, heat AC great. Nice view nice area.
- 4/5
Bare bones of accodations. Location and transit where ideal for my needs
- 4/5
Super helpful and welcoming staff. Room was clean and having a microwave and fridge at my disposal was super convenient. The location was ideal, especially considering I was on foot for 3 days and took the Metro Rail to and from the airport. I would stay again in a heartbeat
- 1/5
Outside was disgusting no parking and transients were everywhere. The staff were very polite but the property was super ghetto
- 5/5
Good location. Walkable to Pearl District and Brewery Block, Powell’s Books
- 4/5
The location is super convenient and there is on-site parking for guests. The bed was comfortable. The room and property condition was one star, but it was clean.
- 5/5
A fantastic, centrally located spot for anyone visiting Portland. This was my fifth stay since 2018, and it remains my go-to for convenience and value. Highly recommended if you want to see the city without breaking the bank.
- 5/5
Convenient
- 4/5
Good/bad is that Max and other lines go right by the property. So good transit options but it is noisy. I was in end room and felt the vibrations when the Max came by.
- 4/5
The staff were super friendly and helpful. The woman who checked us in went up to our room to make sure it was clean. So according to Hotels.com I was supposed to get a city view, I did not I was put in the room in the back if my curtain was open anyone who walked down the hall could see into my room. The bed was clean my sheets were all white no stains the towels were also stain free but besides that the whole room needs an update we were in room 49 the carpet is nasty looking I always had shoes on. There was definitely mold on the walls in the shower. Overall that was the worst of the room. We didn't hang out in our room it was just for sleeping and showers. The hotel itself is on the tram line, so you hear it all night. Their parking garage is small, but our nissan rogue fit. Theres a pretty good pizza place
- 5/5
This place was amazing , right in the middle of the best food trucks , so much beautiful sight seeing
- 5/5
Although the room was a little shabby and worn, it was sufficiently clean and quiet. The standout was the staff. I had booked 10 nights but only ended up needing to stay for 7, and the woman at the front desk went above and beyond to coordinate with Expedia to secure a refund for the unused portion, which was very much appreciated! The location is excellent: easy access to transit, dining, coffee....and yet a bit removed from the worst of the street disorder in other parts of downtown. The place is definitely not a palace (hence the "value"), but I thought it was a safe and comfortable enough place to stay while in Portland.
- 4/5
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
This was a great room
- 5/5
It's an older motel, but the room was clean and comfortable and very affordable. Everything worked and the lady at the front desk was friendly and professional.
- 3/5
bathroom could be updated. pillows and thicker blanket.
- 2/5
The room felt neglected. Mainly, the bathroom has plumbing issues: the sink and tub clogged up, very slow draining. My room was a corner room, right next to the light rail tracks. It was noisy. The evening shift staff wasn't that pleasant but the morning shift staff was very kind.
- 5/5
Courteous staff. Clean. Goid price
- 4/5
Was pretty great especially for the price. The staff were very courteous and extremely helpful. The only downfall about this property to me is no elevator but it's super close to the max and pizza is next door.
- 5/5
Everything was great. He either worked excellent and yes, there was places easy and short trip to eat.
- 5/5
Clean, spacious, microwave, comfy ned
- 5/5
Nicole at reception was fantastic - professional, courteous, she helped resolve a small detail effortlessly. Some rooms are close to tram tracks so ask if you need absolute quiet at night. I'd be happy to stay here again.
- 5/5
Great location right next to the streetcar stop, quiet, friendly staff, affordable. Great place to stay!
- 5/5
Great location.
- 5/5
Excellent transportation
- 4/5
Front desk was very kind and helped me with my bags. Good stay for the reasonable price.
- 2/5
The parking is useful only if you drive a Smart car. Anything larger won’t fit in the spaces.
- 4/5
Parking is absolutely limited and complicated. Very tight spots and hard to get into. But it's free and we were able to get one of the spots each of our five nights. Water pressure was good, rooms were clean, bed was comfy, and overall a good stay. Right by the tram stop and that was kinda loud but we travel with a sound machine and couldn't hear it over that.
- 5/5
Simple and clean just what I needed! Staff was friendly and helpful
- 5/5
Great spot, super comfy bed, very friendly staff, excellent location
- 3/5
It is a basic motel but in close proximity to downtown. The bar connected to the motel had very good pizza and the bartender was awesome. Hotel staff were incredibly nice as well. We had a parking spot at the property. There are not many places to dine nearby and the area is flooded with homeless people. The motel and room reaked of cigarette smoke. The price was right so I booked it. Cheap and zero frills about it. Don’t go here if you have high expectations as you will be severely disappointed.
- 1/5
so noisy around the building. Housekeeping was so poor.
- 4/5
Great location. Noisy with street car traffic.
- 3/5
I don’t know what she think when she working ? !
- 5/5
Good area to start off from, limited parking but we were able to work it out, nice enough for a night, cheap!
- 5/5
Great location for our event
- 2/5
The parking lot is not easy to get into! Very tight steep entrance. Very small and tight lot. Furniture was very crappy and damaged! Missing light fixtures. Stains. Terrible pillows. Very LOUD with the train being right there.
- 3/5
Carpets in the room were severly stained, there were left over clothing items in one of the drawers of the "dresser". The city tram runs on the street directly next to 2 sides of the building. It was crazy, crazy loud every time it went buy. I was only able to get 3 hours of sleep during the time it wasnt running.
- 2/5
The morning staff is much different - she is ready to answer our questions and provided good suggestions around the area. She is the only good part of this stay.
- 5/5
Good location
- 5/5
Great location for downtown Portland
- 3/5
Location and staff were great. The facility itself was in poor repair. The best you could get out of the shower was luke warm and most of the outlets did not work. Had to use the bathroom to charge Phones
- 5/5
Quick and easy to check in. Wanted to give a big shoutout to Nicole at the front desk for her quick responses and for communicating well regarding all my questions. She was patient and was true to her word! The property was decent for the price and it was just what i needed for my one night stay!
- 4/5
great deal for location
- 5/5
Nikki (not sure if i spelled her name correctly) was AMAZING. We experienced issues at another hotel and she got us checked in early so we coukd get some rest. Absolutely saved our anniversary trip. Great price, clean rooms, amazing location. We HIGHLY recommend this establishment! THANK YOU NIKKI!!
- 5/5
My partner and I didn’t want to spend out the wazoo but wanted somewhere comfortable to stay. The place was tidy, but had a little bit of wear to it. Check in and check out was a breeze and staff were friendly and accommodating. If you’re used to city noise (we’re from Seattle) the streetcar shouldn’t be much of an issue. We stayed three nights and felt perfectly safe around the area. Totally recommend Ovation, the coffee spot right across the street. Super convenient spot for hopping on a bus or streetcar to wherever you wanna go! I plan on staying here again!
- 3/5
THANK YOU PORTLAND until next time 😊
- 5/5
The staff was amazing ..nice a quiet..awesome pizza place next door..next time in Portland i will be staying here 100%
- 5/5
Front desk staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. Hotel is dated, but clean and functional. It's a great buy, and the location is ideal to get to PSU, food carts, and downtown. Ovation coffee across the street. Transit is right there, getting across the river is easy. The streetcar out front is really not that loud. As others have stated, some of the free parking spots are between columns and are incredibly hard to park between. Recommend an economy size rental car and a spotter. Barring that, there's cheap enough parking in the area.
- 3/5
Did not provide hairdryer. But listed there’s a hairdryer
- 5/5
Amazing stay. For the price :, safe, clean, inviting , friendly .
- 4/5
Good place to stay on a budget. Nice area.
- 2/5
Train noise every 20 minutes. Poor parking availability. Room was merely adequate… Not as pictured.
- 4/5
The parking leaves a lot to be desired. Parking is under the motel and the entrance and parking spaces are very narrow and very difficult to navigate. Each space has 2 pillars you have to back through. So tight you most likely have to turn in your mirrors. And with access from both ends of the garage the potential for a for rea headache of a gridlock willhaunt your dreams. Extended air crew cab pick-ups, forget about it.

- 2/5
The staff was super nice and the lobby was clean. The room smelled awful, and there were stains of different colors and consistencies ALL over the floor and bathroom. The max went by every half hour or so, so it was super loud. This was one of the cheaper motels in the area so you get what you pay for I suppose.
- 4/5
Located in middle of Portland State University campus. Light-rail, street cars and busses right outside the motel on two sides. (Very inexpensive, too) Its an older building but well maintained. Nothing fancy. Great for visiting PSU
- 5/5
The folks working the desk were very nice and helpful and while nothing was stand out this is a value inn for a reason. It was clean, convenient and work perfectly for having a place to stay for a night. Would recommend.
- 3/5
Free and easy parking. Great location. Room smelled unpleasant (possibly animal or urine). Very noisy (guests and outside).
- 5/5
Good
- 4/5
Great location and price. A little older, but perfect if you're on the go.
- 5/5
Great staff, great location.
- 3/5
Location is good
- 4/5
Good location! Parking space could be small for medium size vehicle. Noisy as there is railway nearby.
- 4/5
This inn was in a great spot. Easy walking distance to a great ramen shop. It was very easy to find. Just look for the Catholic Church. FREE parking. The room was a little shabby, the fridge didn’t really work well, BUT, the beds were very comfortable, the AC ran cold and the bathroom was very clean. So no complaints. The staff was efficient, polite and kind.
- 1/5
Door had been kicked in at one point. Big carpet stains looked like blood stains and on wall. Rented 3 rooms greasy dirty headboards in one room. Huge carpet stains in other two rooms. Very few parking spaces and if you drove a truck you had to pay to stay in nearby garage.
- 5/5
very friendly front desk staff!
- 3/5
Great price, room was ok and clean. But the streetcar goes right by the building and makes it noisy sometimes
- 4/5
The Staff was very helpful and friendly. the room was a nice size for the money. It was clean.
- 5/5
No complaints. Nice size room, clean. Convenient. Parking is tight though. Larger truck's beware. Weak and noisy AC.
- 5/5
This is a budget property. If you have illusions of snooty, uniformed bellhops, snarky concierges behind marbled desks, and enormous lobbies with Tiffany stained glass domes . . . . your nose may turn up and your heart may sink, because this place is a solidly built motel for regular folks. If you're a snob, chase the Ritz-Carlton, not far away. Two things make this place special: Location and, above all, its staff. A block away is PSU. It sits right on a streetcar line that will take you anywhere. The property has free parking (but it is in short supply, best call and ask). 15 minutes of pleasant walking takes you anywhere in the downtown district and a bit further goes to the Pearl and adjacent districts. There are superb food trucks a block or so away (Portland helped popularize food truck culture a few years back). But the staff make this place. I am tempted to say I have never seen such kindness and supportive attitude in an accommodation before. So totally above and beyond the call, it was amazing. During my stay at the hotel, I needed assistance a number of times, and Nicky, Nicole and others jumped at the chance to help me and my partner when we were in need. We were just amazed! Just for this reason alone, I would give this property 100 stars if I could. I could not possibly recommend more highly.
- 1/5
The room had a very pungent smoke smell despite being a smoke free property. Parking was impossible; a car was blocking the entrance our entire stay, the spots were tiny, and the steep entrance made it impossible to not scrape the bottom of your vehicle.
- 5/5
This place was clean and quiet with free parking. It isn't fancy and doesn't have any of the "upgrades", but it's clean, well-maintained and the staff is kind. For the downtown location, I felt safe and that my car was secure. For a simple, no-frills stay, I think this was probably the best I've ever stayed at. Will definitely stay here again!
- 4/5
Super super kind and friendly!
- 2/5
The parking was awful. Our room was right next to a main street and there was no sound proofing. Woken up at 7am everyday by construction and awoken throughout the night by yelling and screaming people.
- 3/5
Great staff and location, but the hotel is dated and really needs to be updated. Its also located right by the tram tracks, so there is some noise. It does have a small on-site parking garage, but its small and i would not park a full size truck or suv in it
- 4/5
Staff was so friendly and welcoming! Spent three nights and had no problems with services or appliances. There were a few concerns with cleanliness where some towels had old make up stains and a few moths were around but not bad enough that it needed to be addressed. If you need a place to be in and out and sleep for a reasonable price, this is the place!
- 5/5
Accessibility
- 5/5
The front desk lady was so nice!!! Quick check in. Knowledgeable about the best place to get coffee and breakfast just right across the street. Definitely made our stay more welcoming.
- 5/5
I’ve stayed here before. It’s a great room for the money - clean, quiet, and convenient with free parking. The room has a microwave and mini fridge which are nice features for a budget friendly hotel. Front desk staff are nice and helpful. The adjacent pizza by the slice restaurant with full bar is convenient. Recommend!

The desk guy is always super nice. We are grateful to have a reasonably priced, convenient place to stay in Portlamd.
- 3/5
The property is safe. I love their service. They should just change the room carpet.
- 1/5
Service animals ARE NOT PER.ITTED, even tho tbe site says they do. We made a reservation, when we arrived we were denied a room per the front desk due to having a service animal with us.
- 4/5
Very good price for my 5 night stay a bit noisy with the max trains running right next to my room luckily im used to trains overall it was perfect for what i needed on a short notice trip to Portland
- 3/5
it is nice closes to restaurant and 12 minutes to court house, but it to noise until 11pm and noise back 4:45 am on sunday morning, the garage only for cars
- 3/5
Initial impression of hallway with soiled carpets and cigarette smell was unfortunate. There were debris on the floor under the beds in our room, though otherwise room was clean and fresh, bed comfortable. Bathroom small but functional with update shower surround. This is directly adjacent to a light rail track, so ear plugs would be good if you want to go to sleep early or get up late.
- 5/5
Well the staff let me check in early and we're very nice and respectful
- 4/5
The property was a bit small parking tight but other then that room was clean ,
- 5/5
The staff is very friendly and easy to communicate with.
- 3/5
The front desk staff was kind and knowledgeable
- 5/5
Cozy
- 1/5
The free parking was so small I damaged my car while parking. The room was in poor condition, The carpet seller mildew. The furniture was shabby. The bed did not have a top sheet. The whole property needs an update.
- 4/5
The parking is extremely limited and is on a first come first serve basis. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the room was clean and spacious. I would definitely come back!
- 5/5
Staff was great :)
- 4/5
Given the low price and the 1 star rating the Value INN was a positive surprise - quite clean and nicely updated. It was across the street car station and also 20 to 30 minutes walk away from must sees in the downtown area.
- 3/5
Stayed for 5 days. Location was great, on site laundry was handy. Pretty dated and dingy, and the tiny parking lot led to me putting a scratch on my rental car that cost me more than my entire stay.
- 3/5
It is good value for the price, but noisy place, the room does not isolate sound well. Cleaness needs improvement. Room also needs a bit more furniture.
- 5/5
Amazing staff
- 4/5
The hotel is very convenient, located near Portland downtown. The hotel is an old building that required a lot of updating, but for a one-night stay, it is perfect to explore the city passing by. Did I mention free parking.
- 1/5
There was no parking so the person working told me to back into a small spot in front of his car/office. However, there was a large pole right in the way that you couldn’t see. It damaged my car very badly. He was guiding me in to the spot and did t say anything! They would not give me their insurance information.
- 1/5
Unable to check in due to unexpected additional charges not disclosed to booking site. Staff lacked empathy and understanding offered no actual service which lacked further upon hearing we didn’t have enough to check in.

- 2/5
The only parking offered was a small lot under the building and the spaces were too small to accommodate most vehicles. We were forced to park a block away from the location, pay for the overnight parking and we had to haul our luggage that distance. When I said something to the person checking us in he shrugged his shoulders and said "yeah it can be a challenge to park here." Overall this location did not match the description given at all and was very disappointing.
- 4/5
It was extremely noisy wether the window was open or not. A lot of people out on the street yelling, after the cop cars showed up it seemed to quiet down. Other than that is was ok.
- 4/5
Easily accessible to street car
- 2/5
We asked to get into our room to change for a wedding 30 mins before hand and was told our room wasn’t ready unless we paid $100. So we did and it was ready. The place was dirty!
- 3/5
Pics look nicer then room we actually got!
- 5/5
This was a fairly cheap stay but I liked it. There is a pizza place next door with beer, and a CVS across the street if you need almost anything. Surprisingly for Portland, there was not a bunch of tents around this place. Parking is included so that was a huge bonus but it is tight and limited so I don't recommend full size trucks or suvs. Carpet was new, bathroom was clean, and linens smelled of bleach(clean). I think I was on the third floor and I don't believe there is an elevator. I would like to stay here again.
- 5/5
The front desk agent was very nice and friendly. The room was clean and had all the necessities but the overall hotel seems to need an update in terms of carpeting and flooring (floors were uneven) overall though a good place to stay for the price point. I would recommend an extra lock on the doors too
- 1/5
Room has strange smell. No elevator. Access not friendly. There is no actual parking where my car Chrysler 300 won’t fit. To park the car on the street required additional payment. Staff is rude and overall hotel is dirty. Worst experience in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- 5/5
Beat expectations for the price.
- 4/5
A block away from my conference center at PSU. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Mattress was super comfortable and everything was clean and working (TV and streaming, WiFi, A/C).
- 3/5
Place needs some love and some money put into it. It isnt a bad property but it is teetering on that edge.
- 1/5
In the VERY dirty room: the door suctions every time another door shut. Sounding like someone was trying ro open it. There was a hole of rotten flooring about 1.5 inches deep, just before the bathroom entrance. The bathroom had tile that stuck up/moved when you step. There was no drain stopper to take a bath (not that i would, it was filthy), the water spicket and nobs moved forwared and backward as you touch them. The carpet was dark and sticky from dirt. The floors creaked everywhere. I was afraid our rooms floors were going to cave in ontop of a vehicle in the parking garage below me.not to mention the a/c on max couldnt kee the room cooled because it blows direct ontop the fridge/microwave and would freeze the metal, not cool the room.AND THE LIGHT SWITCH TURNS OFF ALL OUTLETS IN THE ROOM, EVEN THE TV AND AC!!! So dont turn off the lights
- 5/5
This is a GREAT location! Great service, clean rooms, friendly staff! The beds were a little hard for me but it’s worth it for the location and price! We’ll stay here again!
- 3/5
Parking was limited, room orientation was not intuitive. The staff was very friendly though, and it was affordable!
- 4/5

2 street cars roll and ring bell beside motel. Lucky they stop for a few hours in the wee of the night
- 4/5
Great value for a downtown motel, comfy beds, friendly staff
- 5/5
great, great people, great location, great price, great portland
- 4/5
Convenient little spot for a quick 1 night stay. Nothing fancy but the area seemed safe and there was a small parking lot to use.
- 5/5
Close to downtown. Walkable and next to PSU. Parking spaces are small and very much so limited. Staff was friendly. No elevator unfortunately. I don’t required much when staying somewhere. It is next to rail transit so be prepared to hear it. Overall, would stay here again…it was comfortable and inexpensive.
- 5/5
Nice cozy room very clean
- 1/5
There was trash under all of the furniture it didn't look like the room had been cleaned very well. There was tape over the door locks, so I had to pull it off before I could lock my door. It smell like smoke and paint and mold. And there was vomit on the ground outside the main door. The night manager seemed pleasantal enough and told me he would clean up the vomit. It seemed like he was also dealing with somebody trying to get inside the building, so he was a little distracted. But very nice
- 5/5
The staff was very nice, the property you get what you pay for. it's not fancy or nice but it worked for 1 quick night.
- 4/5
Right next to noisy trolley line. Other guests were arguing in hallway at 2am. Dodgy characters in neighborhood after dark. Room was adequate and clean. Staff were pleasant. Parking was tricky for anything but a compact.
