Reviews
The hotel is generally praised for its beautiful decor, comfortable rooms, and friendly staff. However, some guests express concerns about the surrounding area, particularly the presence of homeless people and drug use. Additionally, a few guests mention issues with valet parking and unexpected charges.
- Beautiful decor and comfortable rooms
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Surrounding area can be unsafe and uncomfortable due to homelessness and drug use
- Valet parking is expensive and can be slow

The staff was phenomenal. They were helpful and I loved the complimentary water they gave out
- 4.5/5
Great location, beautiful and creative decor, comfortable room, friendly staff. Room cleaning was very sloppy. Bathroom was barely (if at all) cleaned. Coffee was not supplied daily. Same was true for our friend Elinor Nissan Cohen’s room.
- 5/5
It was great everything was great
- 5/5
Everyone on staff was lovely and very helpful. Room was beautiful and very clean. Upkeep top notch. Great art. Great location to all. Food unique, delicious with generous portions at breakfast.
- 5/5
A delightful hotel with two excellent restaurants and a fitness center in downtown. Portland.
- 3/5
The bar closes at 10. The restaurant won't seat you without a "reservation" even though it's half empty. They probably have a staff shortage but won't admit it. Lobby tables left un-bussed. We had to do it ourselves. Room service, vacuums, etc are left in the hall for multiple days, let alone hours. And those nice, clear shower doors? Accumulated soap scum from previous guests. The beds were comfortable and the rooms quiet, which was the most important. Overall, a disappointing experience.
- 3/5
Unfortunately, downtown Portland is not the city it was!

Exceptional
- 5/5
Excellent as always and a super attentive staff!
- 5/5
Overall it was fine, to be a luxury hotel like the name says it needs to be clean. The sheets and bed skirt had stains and so did the sofa in the room. The bathroom door had soap scum on it.
- 5/5
Such kind and helpful people!
- 5/5
The hotel is very nice and centrally located to many things. Urban Farmer is an amazing restaurant. Malachi was a fabulous server and made our stay very enjoyable. The food is unique and well-thought out with many house-pickled ingredients. Overall a great stay!!
- 5/5
Loved this hotel. It was one of my favorite hotels that I have stayed in. The staff was amazing and so knowledgeable about the hotel and the area.
- 4/5
Convenient location and comfortable beds . Very helpful valet staff
- 4/5
Great location. Have to use parking garage or valet parking. Wonderful restaurant
- 5/5
The Nines lives up to its name. It's a destination spot even for locals who want to go to their restaurants. The food was impeccable and they had a very caring staff. Would definitely go back.

Convenient location
- 5/5
Gorgeous property-comfortable beds-friendly staff!
- 5/5
The Nines is in a great location. Easy walk to retail and other interesting things to see. Two very good restaurants in the building and a great hotel workout area.
- 5/5
Staff were awesome as usual! Clean room, comfortable bed, spacious. Just a weak shower head was the only disappointment. Just not much water pressure. But still an amazing stay!

I could not be more happy with my stay here at The Nines in Portland, OR. The staff were all very courteous and professional. The rooms are spotless and housekeeping really goes the extra mile. I travel weekly and I highly recommend you stay here if visiting the area. It would also be perfect for a staycation. I would give it 6 stars if I could!

We stayed during Christmas holiday and Santa was there taking pictures. On-site restaurant options were great and we even had a room with a view of Pioneer Square.

Thought it was great until I was charged $85.00 for parking. No warning, no notice until I got my bill.
- 4/5
Room was super small for a deluxe
- 5/5
Amazing
- 3/5
The hotel is nice, the service is outstanding (we had good interactions with every employee), but the rooms are dated and ready for remodel. The Nines is a nice hotel but shouldn't be considered luxury and should reconsider their price/value. We most likely won't go back at the prices they charge.

Loved the location, very central, the lobby seating area and bar/restaurant were very nice places to hang out or have coffee, our corner suite was really spacious and the wine tasting that was going on when we arrived was great. It was really nice , but not super special

- 5/5
Staff was very pleasant. Location is great. Hotel was excellent.
- 5/5
Room service Breakfast was excellent
- 5/5
Hotel was in a great location, the restaurants inside were good, the roof top bar was nice. The only thing I didn’t like is I paid extra for a city view only to be looking directly at the side of another building.
- 3/5
Nice hotel in downtown Portland……more for the business traveler.
- 5/5
Staff went above and beyond.
- 5/5
I stay at the Nines every time I visit my son and his family. Unfortunately, downtown Portland like many American cities, have more then their fair share of homeless people that gather around businesses. I have not been accosted by any these people but it does make me sad to see so many needy people. I feel somewhat guilty that I have been so blessed in my lifetime.
- 5/5
The nines was great. Great safe location right next to excellent shopping. The staff was so welcoming and helpful. Would recommend to anyone.
- 5/5
Stayed one night for an event. I had a comfortable and amazing stay at The Nines, it has all what a luxury hotel should have I anticipated. From the friendly concierge,
- 5/5
I’ve stayed here before it is always classy and comfortable.
- 5/5
Truly exceptional in every way ! Amazing restaurants on site - valet service was outstanding - great location - always stay at The Nines !
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel with exceptional customer services and attention to detail. Their restaurants are 2 of the best in the city.
- 4/5
Great hotel! The snacks with sensors were super frustrating, I would much rather have the fridge to put my own things than drinks that trigger a sensor and charge me when I move them around. This caused me to have to walk down to the check in to sort it out, they still didn’t take the charges off and I had to call when I got home to remove them. Otherwise this is a very nice spot to stay in Portland!
- 5/5
Always taken care of. The staff made us feel so welcomed.
- 5/5
All the staff go above and beyond. They take care of everything.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel, parking is a little overpriced but otherwise great
- 4/5
We stayed in the hotel for one night. The room was spacious and nicely decorated, comfortable bed, couch. Very clean and well maintained. The hotel has 2 restaurants, both are worth to dine in. The hotel is located in downtown so there is some noise from traffic. The staff is very nice and helpful. Walking distance to shops, museums, entertainment venues. The only thing is that the fridge is full of alcoholic drinks and sodas and it is not possible to put anything there. There should be some room left for visitors to use the fridge. It is a nice hotel for couples or business travelers.
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
Central to good restaurants
- 5/5
The hotel was wonderful. As were the rooms and staff! Couldn’t be happier! THANK YOU!👍
- 5/5
Beautiful property with very helpful staff. Rooftop dining & great breakfast too.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff. Unfortunately area around hotel has a lot of homeless people shouting and it felt a bit unsafe after dark.
- 5/5
It was nice
- 4/5
Good hotel, but the downtown area isn’t great, especially compared to so many other wonderful parts of portland
- 5/5
When I’m in Portland, love staying at the Nines.
- 4/5
Awesome property in the. Middle of what could have been an amazing weekend shopping and strolling stay ruined by the homelss population this City continues to sponsor. Bummer.
- 4/5
Beds were comfy staff was helpful room was decent
- 5/5
Great property inside. But outside the property is noisy, a little dirty, and a lot of homeless strolling around.
- 5/5
Xxx
- 5/5
Great place to stay while in Portland! Location is great close to everything you want to see downtown. Service is always warm and welcoming! The food is excellent! The rooms are lovely. The parking situation is a drawback. The fee is to high and it’s hectic getting your car.
- 5/5
Although we were not able to explore much the hotel's location seemed fantastic. The restaurant/bar - Departure was excellent. There seemed to be a lot of locals there so that's when you know a place is has a good reputation. The view from the rooftop is something not to be missed. The staff was super friendly and amazing. Stay here if you can.
- 4/5
Very nice. Staff is wonderful. Although a bit outdated and could use some refresh in the guest rooms and certain areas, its a wonderful hotel and would recommend
- 5/5
Good option for downtown Portland
- 5/5
Such a great property! If it’s your first time in Portland it’s perfectly located. The staff is extremely nice and accommodating to requests. Loved this hotel.
- 4/5
Great location! Everything else is perfect except for parking.
- 4/5
Staff was friendly and helpful, and pointed us to the concierge who shared gallery tickets with us and gave us great suggestions for parking since we did not feel comfortable with the valet option. Bellman who happened to be from Hawaii (as we are expats) was very hospitable and made us feel like we were entering/leaving a friend’s home. Convenient location but it does get sketchy after 6 or 7pm, so we made sure we parked in a lot as close as possible to the hotel.
- 4/5
The area has a lot of unhoused people near Pioneer Square. However, other areas near other hotels was not any better.
- 5/5
This hotel was excellent and perfect for our weekend trip.
- 5/5
Cleanliness and friendly
- 5/5
Some of the friendliest staff I’ve encountered.
- 5/5
The Nines has excellent dining options right on sight, a wonderful bar, and the beds are comfy!
- 5/5
nice artsy hotel. Great dining options at Urban Farmer and Departure Lounge. $30. "destination fee" gets you free water, a $15. coupon for food and beverages, free transport within a 30 min ratio (no pick-up, just going) and 2 tickets for the Portland Art Museum. Valet parking fee at $65. a night is high. Great location for walking to stores and restaurants,
- 5/5
Excellent stay, super clean room, bed/pillow/linens were superb. Room service was great. Would stay again in a heartbeat.
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel with great service. Would have given 5 stars except shower had moldy grout and hadn’t been properly cleaned.
- 4/5
The hotel was beautiful but the surrounding areas didn’t feel safe
- 5/5
We came for my birthday and to see a concert. The staff checked us into our room early, be noon instead of 4 which was great because we could enjoy the city without carrying our luggage. They brought me a birthday cart with cake, wine and balloons to my room along with a card. Everyone staff member that I spoke to and gave my last name to told me happy birthday and my visit really special. On checkout they held out luggage for free at the front desk so we could walk around and sightsee before heading to the airport. Felt like VIP the entire time. Highly recommend.
- 4/5
Very good breakfast. Large room, clean and comfortable. Minor detail - no shoe shine kit, even upon request. Staff was efficient but unhelpful.
- 5/5
best restaraunt in portland.
- 4/5
Try nice hotel. The room was very clean, but a bit small. The shower and water pressure was horrible. The service was very good, especially by Amina at the front desk.
- 5/5
Good location. Beautiful hotel
- 5/5
When I visit my family in the Portland area I stay at the Nines. Very convenient and comfortable. Close to restaurants and shopping. Good walking around the block for exercise if you get restless.
- 4/5
Beautifu
- 3/5
Not too bad
- 1/5
I rented two overpriced rooms paying way over $1000 for one night. The plumbing in my room was clogged. The water in the second room was rusty and brown. The room service food was nauseating. They charged nearly $100 for three pizzas the size of an average tortilla, which were completely inedible and far below that which you can get at a gas station for two dollars.
- 4/5
GREAT People. Love the Art/Ambiance. Two Yummy Restaurants. My room window condensation so it appeared wet and dirty...maybe replace the window? A soak tub would have been nice. Regardless, overall a FANTASTIC place to stay in Portland. I would stay again.
- 5/5
It was great
- 5/5
Very nice
- 5/5
Very friendly staff
- 5/5
Great hotel in down town Portland. 2 great restaurants right in the hotel. Frontdesk, concierge and valet staff were great. Though the restaurants are not owned by the hotel, they are great options for meals.
- 5/5
Luxurious stay at a reasonable price!
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel, awesome staff, nice bars (Urban Farmer & Departure) & 24/7 gym.
- 5/5
Good location. Easy access.
- 5/5
Perfect location, lovely staff, amazing gym. All in all a great place to for what we needed.
- 5/5
Very nice stay
- 5/5
Hotels are Hotels….but the staff was fantastic. From the Valet staff (especially Mattie) to housecleaning staff up to the night Manager- everyone was friendly, professional and human.
- 5/5
Perfection as always…
- 4/5
Great location, nice sized rooms, clean, well appointed, comfortable and quiet. Staff was great but onsite food could use a boost for the price. Not horrible, just OK, better options nearby. I guess you are paying for the convenience. Valet parking is overpriced. I’d stay again and recommend but will check out other options nearby too.
- 5/5
The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the food offerings we're good, the staff was courteous and professional. Very fine experience.
- 5/5
Cute deco, conveniently located, friendly staff and great food at the roof top restaurant
- 2/5
The hotel is ok. It's not at a prime condition as it is an old hotel but I get that part. The only problem is the transparency on the fee. I got charged with an additional resort fee that was explicitly stated to be included during booking via Expedia. I was not explicitly notified at check in that the hotel will charge it one more time. They just told me that I will have $30 to expense as hotel credit and I thought that's the one included in the booking. Contact expedia multiple times and they worked with the hotel back and forth without the hotel willing to refund that. I ended up took a partial credit from Expedia and decided to sleep with it. But would like to post this out for people to pay attention to the fees.
- 5/5
But at check in, we were told we have a “credit” of $30 to spend in the hotel. While we already had all our dining committed before we came to town, we decided to use it on juices before check out. Then I found out that is a credit after all. It is a mandatory fee, charged by surprise at the hotel…and not mentioned, or included when booking the room. I would like the parking charge to be part of booking the room, so the payment source is all the same. The front desk employee took the fee from my bill when I complained, which is quite nice since he said “it’s just what is the policy” several times. My note to whomever reads these is that had the potential to leave us agitated and unhappy as soon as were leaving, like getting a parking ticket.. We really enjoyed ourselves.
- 5/5
In nice downtown area.
- 5/5
The hotel enviroment is super nice
- 3/5
The Nines is a good place to stay mostly. The decor is tacky with its bright walls and outdated wall paper and plastic chandelier type lamps. If that doesn't bother you, the rooms are spacious, the staff is pleasant, and the convenience to shopping and restaurants is great. The two restaurants are good as well. It's a solid 3 star place.
- 5/5
Upscale hotel walkable to plenty of restaurants and shopping
- 4/5
It was an okay stay. Comfortable bed and good food in the restaurant. Not sure if I'll be back.
- 5/5
Amazing!
- 5/5
Wonderful location. Staff was amazing. Close to Portland City Grill which I highly recommend as a high end restaurant. Downtown Portland is a little spotty with shopping but there’s a mall and high end shops nearby. I’ve priced this pace during the summer and it was out of my budget but in late March, it was less than $300 a night which was a great value for what you get.
- 5/5
The staff was extremely accommodating, were able to get us in early. The room was beautiful. My breakfast in the morning was very good and everyone was so friendly. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel with great amenities
- 5/5
Great customer service, great amenities, great ambiance. Wish the mini fridge had room to store things though. It was FULL of things for sale. No space for left overs.
- 5/5
Loved it, Departure dinner was wonderful
- 5/5
Wonderful place they greet you with a friendly and warm welcome.Had some anxiety about my stay but once I was greeted with such a warm welcome it all melted away. The food at both places were amazing didn’t have a reservation for the first place but they had the living room option with service and that was a wonderful experience the next place upstairs had some of the best crunchy crab rolls had to order a second helping and the beef skewers melted in my mouth also the wings they have was the best fusion of flavor I’ve had for wings
- 5/5
Very nice stay!
- 5/5
Great service at restaurant
- 5/5
Great location and great restaurant.
- 5/5
Amazing hotel! We really enjoyed our time, and mostly preferred to stay in the hotel since it was Christmas week and not many places were open. The hotel was beautiful, the room was well taken care of and the staff is amazing! Will come back again!
- 5/5
Noncomplaints
- 5/5
It was perfect. I came to visit my son and had the most beautiful room and stay.
- 5/5
Convenient location, spacious room, great restaurant and bar on top floor
- 5/5
Great place to stay
- 3/5
The service in the restaurant was extremely slow in both the evening & the morning brunch
- 5/5
Very clean! Beautiful place
- 3/5
No parking, or very expensive parking. The hotelneed a major renovation.
- 5/5
Comfortable and welcoming
- 5/5
Greta property with great amenenities
- 5/5
Excellent property
- 2/5
Our bank also flagged us for fraudulent charges from the Nines at 3am while we were asleep. Would not recommend and not worth the price. The hotel is pretty though.
- 5/5
Valet parking expensive . We parked in the garage down the street
- 5/5
There are some streets around there area that are unsafe, including a high-traffic bus/train stop area. The city does not appear to be on top of drug use in the open. The Nines is a great hotel! Love the staff and felt safe in the hotel - just watch the streets around.
- 3/5
There was what seemed to be black mold on the ceiling of the shower. All there baseboards were caked with dust. There was a lot of someone else's hair in the bathroom when we checked in.
- 5/5
On top of that, great room, great food, great coffee! Awesome location in downtown Portland.
- 5/5
Rooms were spacious
- 5/5
Friendly staff, great location!
- 3/5
I had to drive around for 30 mins to even get the attention of The Valet to move cars out in front so I could drop my luggage.
- 1/5
Stained sheets and screaming kids.
- 4/5
Our room was very nice but the walls were very thin; heard the neighbor snoring and any conversation on either side.
- 4/5
I think the highlight of our stay at the Nines, was the service we received from a waitress at breakfast each morning. She mentioned being 19 years old. She was pleasant and helpful, and gave good recommendations about Portland. The hotel is near Pioneer square and small shopping center. Also saw a Nordstrom and an Apple Store. Did see a number of unhoused. Many Christmas festivities also nearby. Ubered to Jake’s Grill which was excellent!
- 5/5
Did not like that in room lighting needed to be individually turned on and off ( wall sconces, beds side lamp, lamp on desk) only one was on light switch, the one over the table by the window.
- 5/5
Upon checking in I was greeted by a wonderful lady. I was made to feel so welcomed! My entire stay was great. Great employees!
- 5/5
Great experience
