Reviews
The hotel reviews are mixed, with some guests expressing satisfaction with the location, cleanliness, and comfort of the beds, while others report significant issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and staff behavior. Many guests appreciate the proximity to local attractions and the affordability of the hotel.
- Close to local attractions
- Affordable pricing
- Inconsistent cleanliness
- Poor maintenance and lack of amenities
- 5/5
For the price and location this motel was a surprise. Clean, older but remodeled bath except for the low toilet, a fine bed, room to put a dop kit on a counter in the bathroom, plenty of water pressure in the shower, an adequate desk and lighting, lots of electrical outlets, lights to read in bed that actually illuminate, a big fridge. Not much in the way of other amenities but there is a great breakfast place, Word Of Mouth, a short walk away.

I had pay 1 night while fighting cancer
- 5/5
The property was nicely located affordable and was very clean even though it outdated it was all clean and a excellent property to explore the downtown area and parks
- 0.5/5
The app told me I was within six minutes of this day when I got directions it was 45 miles away from my location. I was not refunded by booking or by nights in. I did not get to stay there, but looking at the location with the pictures very sketch
- 0.5/5
I don't have much to say other than at least the water was hot. The staff was rude. Made me wait half hour past check in time. The staff entered my room and tried to say my card was declined when I paid in advance. Then they double charged my deposit which the deposit is more than the room for a night. Probably the absolute worst experience I've ever had at a motel.
- 5/5
Hard beds
- 5/5
Quiet area. The only issue was the beds were hard
- 0.5/5
Nothing It was dirty there was blood on the wall in the bathroom the shower didn't drain the bedding had cigarettes burns the pillows were flat I didn't sleep I was so grossed out
- 3.5/5
couldn't figure out tv access. You use a printed instruction piece.
- 3/5
Outdated but budget friendly
- 1/5
The motel was not busy so it was quiet The room was musty smelling, the beds were hard, the heater was loud, the shower was small, the towels were dirty and thin. The staff was rude about checking out late.
- 3/5
The bed was uncomfortable, also supposed to be non-smoking room bed spread had cigarette burns, was supposed to be tub/shower combo but only had shower, shower drain was clogged and filled base of shower floor
- 5/5
Close to downtown It was all ok.
- 2.5/5
Location. Refer. Bed. 1 The room I asked for. Had to ask again at lobby. 2 No towels. 3 The heater air filter was cleaned by me 2 weeks ago but staff did not clean any other room air filters. The cleaning by me removed 1/8 inch of fine dust/debris. 4 The room was cold even though i had asked for the heater to be turned on at a specific time.
- 1.5/5
That they left us alone I never got my deposit back they had no customer service the beds were uncomfortable it's was over charged
- 0.5/5
Location was great. Clean towels wash cloth garbage can
- 4/5
Room was very clean but cold due to no occupancy. Heater air filter needed cleaning to effectively heat room. Beds were firm and comfortable. Enjoyed the verity of pillow firmness. Great job Clean Air Con/Heater air filters.

Staff was friendly and helpful

They don’t accept us as we do have service dogs for the deaf
- 5/5
Clean and quiet.
- 0.5/5
Was told to leave after I asked for a new room due to ants everywhere
- 1/5
Very bad experience, extremly dirty hotel
- 5/5
quiet - good parking
- 4/5
it was all good except that the safety lights shone in our windows majorly. And there didn't seem to be an "auto on" function for the a/c fan. the rest was good, all as expected (we've stayed there before)
- 3.5/5
Low standard for the price Need to upgrade beds and linen. Pillows sheets etc.
- 0.5/5
The place was absolutely filthy smoke stained and burnt sheets with holes yellow all over everything smelling like cigarettes. Nothing appeared to have been clean in a long time.
- 3/5
i like that it is centrally located. but i don’t like that they always get the towels for laundry but without automatically replacing it. we have to wait for them to finish the laundry. so if we need a towel, we need to wait. also we cannot get extra towels. there is also no microwave in the rooms making it inconvenient to go to the office to heat up food.
- 2/5
This property is smelly, dirty, and not worth the price. Our room smelled like cigarettes, the air conditioner was extremely noisy and didn’t work that well, the bathroom was extremely dangerous and slippery when wet, there were cigarette burn holes in our bedding, the curtains did not close all the way, there was crud around the outlets and ceiling fixtures, the room was dark and dingy. There were holes in the furniture and we were overall creeped out by the entire experience. The inn accepted pets but the fee was not disclosed until check in. For the price I paid I would have stayed elsewhere
- 4/5
Very helpful with check-in . Room nice and staff was wonderful. Felt safe there and will stay there again.
- 2.5/5
The location, it was quiet The methpipe burns on the blankets, the burn on the bathroom counter, broken furniture in front of the rooms, the oder of the room
- 3/5
The location was quiet. Some of the amenities did not work (television, bathroom sink handle, shower door). If the hotel could invest in some repairs and updates that would be great because $120 per night is a lot of money and customers want value for their money.
- 4/5
It was OK. Price was in line for the oveall quaitly and location. In our situation, the location to the train station was a bit of a walk. Availability of a shuttle would have been nice.
- 3/5
Reasonable price for close to downtown. Dated and thread bare. Average at best
- 4/5
Check in was weird had to ring for attendant to come to window and wait then they let you in office. Paperwork on room they gave me barely readable. WiFi did not work. Only 1/4 of a roll of toilet paper in room. Was clean low noise for how full the hotel was. Only street noise was a police car passing sometimes.
- 1/5
Very dirty. Fan for heat and air. Did not work. There was no smoke detector. The remote control for tv didnt work either, but he did go get anthrr remote that worked
- 2/5
The bathroom didn’t have toilet paper and only two small towels.
- 5/5
I liked the employee he did a great job.And the property was clean. And the room was clean to.And every thing worked to.
- 2.5/5
No place to take your pet to relieve themselves. On a busy street.

Never again

Absolutely NOTHING! It was the worst most disgusting and terrifying experience!!! They should NOT be allowed to stay with Booking The room Reeked of stale smoke! Furniture was all completely broken!! Dresser was missing an entire drawer & the one next to it was in pieces! The fridge/freezer leaked everywhere because it’s so Caked with ICE in the freezer which SHOCKED me 3 times.Canf use a streaming device bcuz all options in the tv are disabled, the back of the remote was broken/missing! I couldn’t even take my SOCKS off because the floor turned the bottoms BLACK & didn’t wanna walk on it, HUGE “stain”, what looks like where someone used Bleach(!)to clean against the paint,so the paint is faded in a huge spot ! (honestly was hard not to think of something horrifying!) The Beds!: Oh my GAWD! I didn’t wanna bring my own blankets in for fear of yucks, so we went to peel the top comforter off or respective beds which were nice’ish emerald green satiny materiel, but removing them was a terrible idea!! Disgusting!! There were some odd stains on the sheets of both beds! And HAIR in the blankets and on the sheets!!! Not like stuck into the fabric as you’d expect long hair especially after being washed/dried, but this was dark long hairs on the top of blankets, and some short and curliers! I don’t think the beds were actually made fresh or washed! It was also Terrifying!! Someone was SCREAMING in pain, for help, that they were being tortured, to stop, ALL NIGHT! I called the front desk to report it to them, more than once, they didn’t care. They sent no one. They called no one! They called no Emergencies Services!! We were too scared to even leave the room until daylight!!! I didn’t get a SINGLE wink of SLEEP!! Surfaces were FILTHY, had to wipe down all surfaces absolutely Disgusting! The AC that wasn’t, blows warm humid air OR blows the fan and is SO LOUD it’s like it’s trying to MOW rocks!!! But the room is so incredibly HOT and Stuffy, and our window was open until Dark, but once the screaming started we HAD to keep it closed!

Salem is a beautiful city and this motel is less than 2 miles from the state Capitol. The parking lot is easy to access. But the moment you enters the lot, you realize that it is a rundown property. The iron-bar protected office setting seems to suggest that the location is less than safe. Then, I was overwhelmed by the stale odor when I entered the room, suggesting lack of maintenance and poor cleaning. Poor cleaning is also evident when I inspect the shower room. I tried to touch as few things as possible during my short stay, including limiting contact with sink faucet. No way will I use any appliance in the room. The rooms do not have central heating/cooling. The in-room unit is very loud. Good thing that I was exhausted after a long drive the noise did not bother me too much. In short, do not choose Knight's Motel even if it is cheap. I'd rather stay at Motel 6.
- 3/5
Walls and inside door was very dirty and towels were ripped and stained
- 4/5
Looks better on the inside. I was surprised. Would stay again.
- 2/5
Managers very distrustful of the general public.
- 3/5
I did not like that there were packets for coffee and cups, but no coffe pot to brew it in. I also asked for an iron to be brought to my room. I checked in a 6:30. It's now 10:00 and I have not received it yet.
- 5/5
Staff was polite but lots of safety precautions in place make it difficult to communicate. The sheets were dirty. The doors and walls were dirty. Small shower hole. Dirty towels. If they were clean, they were stained.
- 2/5
People are nice. It was perfect location for what I needed. The rest I didn’t pay for a 5 star what do you expect.
- 5/5
Great quiet safe place to stay
- 1/5
HOLY CRAP DO NOT STAY, MOLD IN BATHROOM, BLANKETS HAVE HOLES IN THEM, SHEET WITH BLOOD ON THEM, HOW DO I GET A REFUND? And the coffee maker machine has mold inside.
- 1/5
It smells so bad
- 1/5
We were there for a tournament, it was noisy with people up all night, the beds had cigarette burns on the covers and sheets. People were sketchy coming and going all night, the parking lot was a very busy place. They charged for pets but didn’t have any grass or trash cans for pet waste. The room was completely outdated with huge cigarette burns on the counters. The shower was so gross I never showered in it. They had an air freshener so strong that it smelled like it was trying to cover up the stink of the room.
- 2/5
The hotel could be very cute with some remodeling. The motel seems to cater to pretty sketchy clientele (there was a cop talking to a guest in the parking lot for an hour the night I arrived). The fact that they handle all transactions through a window instead of in the lobby doesn’t help matters. You get what you pay for though, I guess.
- 4/5
Great
- 2/5
Poor wifi connection, the cable went out, and there was no bath only a shower
- 4/5
This was a good little hotel, I was attending a graduation at OSU
- 1/5
Manager was very nice and friendly and we felt badly not staying. However, the room smelled awful...combination of stale cigarettes, sweat, and old sex!! The toilet bowl had been cleaned but stained. The shower was dark and musty smelling. Would definitely not recommend it to anyone. Lost my money for the room and deposit but staying was just not an option.
- 1/5
Disgusting Motel. Floors dusty and sticky, cigarette burns all over, room smelt bad
- 3/5
easy to find hotel there. but hotel need upgrade disability access for deaf and deaf blind and for others no fire drill light ? how can we hear alarm ? no deaf wake up alarm and no brallie for blind people . place need upgrade . otherhand all good. bed is good but pillow is super big for short people . thank you
- 5/5
For a cheap hotel pretty good, great breakfast place easy walk, close to capital and quiet. I would not have brought my girlfriend with.
- 3/5
This is a reasonably well maintained, albeit tired facility. That said, the hair dryer didn't work and the air freshener in the room was unpleasant.
- 5/5
Very quiet room
- 1/5
The room was awful: the bed was tiny and creaky, the bathroom towels were tiny, there was only shampoo, there were massive ratholes in the wall, the TV was tiny and my friends room's TV didn't work, and there was just zero insulation so it was cold as heck and I heard every snoring person in the building. So we wake up and decide to check out early, and I had to argue with the lady at the counter because she was claiming I was "cancelling" and not just leaving early because she had a policy that says they never give refunds. I let her know this was illegal and I would sue her if she didn't give me my money back. This place is AWFUL, just spend the extra money and stay at a real motel.
- 1/5
This place was way below my expectation. To begin with, it smelled stale and musty. There were gouge marks all over the walls, the large dresser was broken and the front of one of the drawers was completely broken off and missing, the upholstery was torn and ripped open in places. I took pictures and went and talked to the staff about it, I was told that there had previously been a fight in that room. When I asked for a different room they refused. I would most definitely not recommend this place!
- 2/5
I don’t like this property because no microwave no refrigerator no ice vending machine
- 1/5
Most items didn’t work
- 1/5
So not worth thw money. I wouldn't even sleep on the sheets.
- 4/5
Ouiet and safe
- 5/5
Very efficient check in
- 4/5
Nice older motel close to downtown. Friendly staff.
- 5/5
It ain’t the Taj Mahal of course, but everything was clean and functional and the hosts were kind and helpful.
- 1/5
Rude staff attempted to charge additional fees along with a pet fee for a service animal. Garbage don’t waste your time or money
- 2/5
There is no pool! They had no bath tubs, shower only. And they were hyper focused on how many people, when I'm a solo traveler. Check in after 4pm, 6:30 pm house keeping came knocking at the room.
- 2/5
Will never stay here again. Grimy, dirty, unkept - inside and out. It has every possible indication of ownership that probably has no clue how to run a hotel or be in the hospitality industry. I honestly think the ownership may be clueless as to how dirty, grimy, and ill-maintained things are, as opposed to ownership willfully choosing not to remedy the countless problems, simply because the neglect was rampant throughout the property. Among the top 3 worst hotels I’ve stayed in my lifetime.
- 3/5
Close to a couple of restaurants.
- 2/5
Bathroom didn’t have any toilet paper, and the shower is dirty
- 4/5
Quite location in Salem not far from downtown. Clean, furniture and decor old and worn but the things that need to work work. Comfortable bed. I was in Salem for a conference and stayed 3 nights. Thursday and Friday were very quite. Saturday night there was a loud group directly upstairs from me. But just inconsiderate in there volume, not rowdy or violent. Also Saturday staff seemed overwhelmed with number of guests and clean towels came at 9:00 pm instead of when room was serviced. But overall a great value for the price.
- 1/5
Floor was filthy. I was billed twice the amount advertised. The man at window was unfriendly.
- 2/5
Not the cleaness rooms but if you dont mind it too much, its ok for the price.
- 3/5
Did not like standing out in the cold to register. Very unwelcoming. Did not receive enough towels. The beds were very comfortable.
- 3/5
You get what you pay for here. The property is a bit older but it was quiet and the staff was helpful. Plenty of parking. Not all the rooms have the same quality amenities or condition. Nice bathroom and shower.
- 3/5
Well I had missing towels and had to wait until later during the evening to get them
- 4/5
Good!
- 3/5
The room was clean but the property was very run down. Broken ice machine, leaky roof over stairwell. The weirdest thing was that no one was allowed into the office and you had to conduct business through a kinda bank window.
- 5/5
It was a decent place to stay at a decent price. I wasn’t looking for anything fancy but it was clean & I felt safe. The staff was so nice & accommodating. I needed 2 downstairs rooms & asked if they could be next to each other. The staff messaged me 2 different times to get info trying to make it happen. When we got there it was just as we requested.
- 5/5
Very well kept property! Lady who checked us in was fabulous!
- 4/5
Very close to train station and very friendly staff
- 4/5
Convenient and nice little quiet place to crash for the night!
- 4/5
Room was clean and had everything we needed but there was no microwave. Bed was has hard as nails and everytime you rolled over or got up it sounded horrible like a stack of woods. Bed diffently needs to be replaced.
- 1/5

Tvs go w no service lol wow never expected thst sad to say bad place I totally thought diffrent but not anymore worst ever been at
- 2/5
I picked this hotel due to its proximity to the train station, its proximity to where I'd have to be the next day, and the overnight price. Those were the only things I really liked about the place when I arrived. The check-in process was quite slow and there wasn't someone always in the office ready to check people in. The room I stayed in was a non-smoking room, yet I could tell that there had been smoking in it sometime before I arrived because I could smell the remnants of cigarette smoke in the air. The shower drain was somewhat damaged, the bed comforter had some holes in it, and during the night it felt like some bugs were crawling around on me. For one night, the room was adequate, but it is not likely that I will stay here again.
- 3/5
Good
- 2/5
This stay way very disappointing. We were asked multiple times if we wanted a non smoking room, which replied yes! Room reeked of cigarettes to the point we didn’t want to turn on the air conditioner. Only 2 towels provided and no wash clothes. The parking lot was full of garbage including an old table on top of a car!! It was gross and scary!
- 4/5
Very friendly and efficient check in. The rooms were not fancy but were clean. AC worked fine and the rooms were quiet at night. Very convenient to downtown Salem.
- 2/5
Long-term residents
- 4/5
Doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's very comfortable on the inside. Walking distance to great restaurants, and a block away from one of the cheapest gas stations in Salem. I will stay again the next time I'm in town.
- 5/5
Nice hotel
- 1/5
We found bed bugs at this location and immediately left. Hotels.com helped facilitate a refund. The lady at the reception was very understanding of the situation.
- 4/5
The lady who helped check us in was pleasant especially after I called to get a set of clean sheets due to the fact of ALL types of hair all over the sheets. She moved us to another room where we found the same issue. She brought in new sheets and changed them for us. The heater/ac was difficult to determine which was cool and hot, knobs were broken.
- 5/5
Great
- 2/5
I had gotten the room for a guest who has previously liked the place. She was so uncomfortable this time that she actually left the evening before.
- 3/5
Wifi was spotty
- 3/5
Eh
- 2/5
Dirty and unsanitary
- 1/5
The room was filthy, ants all over, filth on the hair dryer, someone else’s toothpaste splatter all over the sink, wall & mirror. The bed is like sleeping on a slab of cement. There were 4 lamps in the room, only two had bulbs in them (the room was dark). Upon leaving the next morning it was extremely dark outside, no exterior lights on and I fell down the stairs. I went to check out, the note posted said to NOT ring the bell outside office hours, but to knock on the door. I knocked, no one came. Another guest arrived, rang the bell, still no one came. It is NOT A SAFE place to stay. By the way, I’ve got pictures.
- 1/5
We felt unsafe. Was given the wrong room. Woman at the window (they keep the lobby locked) was very rude. When asked about the room we were told to clean the room (we had it 5 mins) and bring the key and she'd see if there was 2 beds, like we reserved, but we might have to pay for 2 rooms. I called hotels.com to try to switch to a different hotel and was told beings the safety issue wasn't within the hotel and she was willing to correct the room we were basically sol. The place was filthy, burn holes in all the bedding, door didn't close properly to the outside.
- 5/5
Had everything that we needed
- 1/5
every room smells like smoke,bad
- 3/5
Pricing was ok
- 1/5
No toilet paper the tv didn’t work to many homeless people and bad service I only stayed for one night and had to get out of there the next day
- 5/5
Quiet area, clean room friendly staff.
- 4/5
Loved the palm trees, but the bed wasn't comfortable
- 2/5
Checkin should’ve been a clue how dissapointed I was going to be staying here. They had the most rules and notice of any hotel I’ve ever stayed at. One of their guidelines is that for long term stays they warn you that housekeeping will come every other day (whether you want it or not). Since I was booked for two days I thought they wouldn’t come unless I called them. Wrong. They came twice. Both times using their key to repeatedly bang on the door, giving a urgent metallic bang to their arrival. I was in the shower once but they act they got places to be. So annoying. Another rule is no cooking in the room. Fair enough. I wish I had known before I booked online. I get to the room, a mini fridge but no microwave. No wonder people don’t stay long term. Shower has nice tile, but has a design flaw and drips puddles of water on the floor every time. I got my clean towels back in time for check out bang bang bang.
- 3/5
Stay was okay for the price. We came during the heatwave and ice machine wasn't working and we swear the owner had said to a person complaining that it would be fixed. It didn't work the 3 days we were there. The air conditioner was off when we checked in and as a small business owner I understand why, but with the heatwave and confirmed reservations a suggestion with the heat wave to make exceptions and have it running for those with confirmed reservations. Also a heads up that towels would come later in the day as towels are usually replenished with room service
- 1/5
Our room was filthy! The sheets on both beds were stained and smelly, the carpet was sticky and the dresser in the room was completely broken and covered in masking tape. Worst experience ever!
- 4/5
This hotel was a great value. Not super fancy but clean and affordable. Check in took a really long time.
- 2/5
It was ok. Not worth the $100. The front person was not friendly, did not make you feel comfortable and welcoming. Palm trees were nice to look at.
- 2/5
Off the beaten path people arguing at all hours in parking lot. If we didn't have dogs who knows what would have happened. Did not feel safe.
- 5/5
It was great!
- 3/5
Suitable. Not the cleanest, but suitable for an overnight stay. The toilet, shower, and bed seemed clean. The woman working at the front desk was friendly at check in. It was quiet.
- 5/5
👍
- 3/5
It was close to the train station. The maid was nice,
- 1/5
Very sketchy. Looked like a homeless shelter.
- 4/5
This inexpensive motel was surprisingly clean and comfortable.
