I reserved a suit with a roll in shower because my father is handicapped. He doesn't travel because it is very difficult. We only made the trip because his brother died. I say this to express how important the shower was. When we arrived the girl at the front desk, Diana, let me know they had moved the room. The new room was not handicap accessible. She then tried to move us to another accessible room but was unable to because it only had one bed. She then offered to find a shower seat. Diana was very helpful. Unfortunately, the shower seat was unstable and when I tested it it fell into the tub. If I had put my dad on the seat it would have required a 911 call to get him out of the tub. My mother and I ended up having him sit on the toilet and using a pot and wash cloth to clean him as well as we could. When I tried to call the front desk to get more towels due to the floor being wet no one answered. Later I went downstairs and there was no one at the front desk. The last thing, is that we dropped something this morning and in looking for it we found a pacifier under the couch. Definitely had not been cleaned as we have no children with us. Overall, I was very disappointed. The only reason I chose this hotel was for the suite with the roll in shower. Also, when we checked in Diana mentioned that they like to book longer stays and that sometimes third party sites book rooms that are not available. I booked the room on 2/26 for a 3/22 arrival. That was almost a month where they could have let me know if there had already been someone else booked in the room when I booked it and I would have tried to find somewhere else that would meet our needs.

Has two bathrooms. One bedroom is open to the kitchen and living room, so has no privacy. The other bedroom has a door and is adjacent to a bathroom, but is not an en suite. There is no breakfast, but a Food 4 Less grocery store and Target are nearby, and it seemed like a nice area not far from the airport.

The rooms were very large, it was like living in a 1 bedroom apartment. Everything was very clean. The kitchen had a full sized fridge/freezer, cooktop, microwave. The bed was comfortable. Very quiet, slept well. The employees were friendly, the free purified water in the lobby was great. The location was excellent, 15-20 minutes to everything we needed to do. Only a 10 min drive to everything Hillcrest has to offer including a Whole Foods. The water alternated between hot and cold in the shower so you had to constantly adjust it while bathing. It is a non smoking hotel but they have a smoking area right in front of the hotel. The smoke goes into the lobby and each time you enter the hotel you smell it. yuck.

I didn’t like it. It’s old & outdated. It looks like a motel. You enter the rooms from outside & there was no view just trees & trash. It’s outdated & looks like a motel.

Room was superb and staff was friendly.

Room was clean. Staff was courteous. They could do better with their TVs, though. They were very old, making the picture quality seem very blurry and faded. Also, they didn't offer any streaming platforms like Netflix, etc.

We stayed here several years ago in the two bedroom and enjoyed all the room for our family of 5; however, our second experience was awful. The smell in the room was almost unbearable, even after cracking the windows and using air freshener. We always take our own pillows and we had to wash them, along with all of our clothes (even if unused) when we got home because the smell permeated into everything. Will not be staying here again.

The hotel was contacted asking if they had 2 cribs for our twin boys. They gauranteed they did so I booked with them, upon arrival they only said they had 1 and that they didn’t say they had promised me them. After talking to manager I caught them in a lie, we had no choice but to stay. The room was full of dog hair and they said they could only clean once a week. They also allowed a drunk male to sit and drink outside the main office. We left early even though we couldn’t get a refund. If you care about your family don’t book with them.

We visited from out of town and are a family of 5. The stay was so good! The room very family friendly. I love that the king bedroom is seperate from bedroom and living room/ kitchen area. We visited Liberty Station and sea world both places were 10-15 min drive. Super nice location! Staff was also very friendly!

This specific property was matching what is shown and described in the Expedia application. The stay was comfortable and very clean with the required daily essentials. Loved the stay in this property for our short tour.

Large rooms, living area with kitchen and bedroom separated by a wall. Quiet, easy access to freeway. no restaurant in hotel. Whole foods up the hill about 8 min drive with many restaurants there , and SD Health hospital same area

The receptionist told me that they had tried to run my card, and it did not go through. However, since my reservation through Expedia clearly stated “Pay at property,” I assumed payment would be collected upon arrival not before. It’s very disappointing to have called earlier that same day, been told early check-in was available, and yet not been informed that my reservation was canceled. My family and I were in town for a special event and were suddenly left without a place to stay. Thankfully, we were able to find another hotel to accommodate us, but I would not recommend Candlewood Suites by IHG to anyone after this experience.
- 5/5
Conveniently situated, friendly and helpful staff . Apartment well setup and quiet Good parking laundry facilities Laundry dryers temperamental and often failed to work or dry clothes
- 2/5
Property was not very clean, the people above us sounded like they were stampeding on the floor until late night and very early in the morning, the lights kept shutting off by themselves, there was construction, literally underneath my window with something that was banging the wall all day on the last day that I stayed you couldn’t be in the bathroom without the fan blaring it was connected to the light,I asked for another room they said that they were full, my grandson who just graduated From Marine Boot Camp came over we tried to get him a room, they said it was going to be $254, and only had one left, I looked online and they had one for $167, not very accommodating at all. Will not stay there again

Added to that, there was not one piece of information in the entire unit. No instructions for the TV, no writing paper, no local eateries, no building map… NOTHING! There was no breakfast, so we had to go to the store to get stuff to fix in the room, not that big of a deal, but I didn’t book the room for the kitchen, I booked it for the TWO BEDROOMS. Staff was friendly, the unit was clean, beds were miserably hard and we couldn’t get anything (literally) to come up on the television. There was one ice machine for the whole place, it was an elevator ride to the next floor, very inconvenient. We won’t book here again.

Nice
- 3/5
Room was ok. We liked the living room separate from bedroom.. liked having a kitchen.. the bed was awful, sagged in the center and one side really low to the ground. The elevator was "broken" 4 outta the 5 days we were there. We were on the 3rd floor and i have mobility issues. I would have asked for the 1st floor had i known we would be using the stairs. Had to carry all 6 bags down 3 flights of stairs at 7 in the morning of our checkout. Extremely frustrating for someone who has ankle surgery 6 months ago. Staff was friendly if you could ever find them, they were usually in back office
- 5/5
The staff was AMAZING. There was a problem with the elevators that happened to break down on our arrival AND our departure dates. However, the staff took care of us and made sure they helped to the best of their ability. It's not about having a problem. It's always about how they deal with it, and they did EXCELLENT!
- 5/5
All was sufficient for our stay
- 5/5
The staff was friendly and accommodating. Coffee and water available 24 hours. Rooms were clean and spacious.
- 5/5
This was the perfect place for us. We got a 1 bedroom suite. It was like a small apartment. It had 2 queen beds and a sofa bed and 2 bathrooms. Which was great considering we had 5 people. We stayed for a week. It wasn’t noisy, like alot of places we have stayed. We were able to make food and had everything that we needed to stay comfortably. Like we were at home. When we needed a refill on soap or toilet paper, the staff was attentive. If we are in San Diego again, we will definitely stay here.
- 5/5
Professional and clean and great staff
- 5/5
Family friendly, parking, hot tub, clean, full kitchen, friendly staff, very accommodating, many restaurants options nearby, and close to all the attractions we were going to like the San Diego Zoo
- 5/5
Very comfortable and spacious rooms. Recently renovated and it shows. Close to many attractions and Old town. Highly recommend. Reasonably priced.
- 1/5
We actually left and got a new hotel. Didn’t feel safe here.
- 3/5
Didnt like how old the windows are and the bugs we had a major ants on second day
- 5/5
Great place!
- 5/5
The rooms were spacious and great location to visit San Diego. I will definitely come back again
- 4/5
There were a few things that we disliked. One of the toilets was clogged and smelly. The internet was extremely slow and the light outside the door was out. Overall, it isnt a 5 star hotel and it doesnt have an oven (it does have a full size fridge) and it was pretty much everything our family needed.
- 5/5
Very nice stay in a 2 bedroom
- 3/5
The stay would have been better if they had a pool... My kids were sad they were looking forward to swimming
- 5/5
The recepcionist was vewry friendly.

I think Expedia should not allow this property on their site as they tried for over an hour to change the amount we paid and the room wasn't ready at 4PM check in. It took my husband to tell the poor worker to bring the manager in to give us our contracteed price. The manager never showed and I called corporate who also never called me back. Spend your hard earned money somewhere you can walk outside without feeling your life is in jeopardy and a place that honors a contract.

Room had an odor. Hot tub wasn't working. The was an annoyimg alarm that was going off all day. To be fair I never complained about the alarm or odor to the staff though. Its a decent budget hotel..

Staff was great!!

I was amazed at how spacious the room was. It has a lot of room, loved the fact that it had a little kitchen area. Staff was pretty friendly. Definitely will go back to this hotel next time I visit San Diego. 10/10
- 3/5
Bathroom needed updating. Kitchen area had no counter space due to broken above stove microwave. Portable microwave took up countet space. Air conditioner was on opposite side of room and bately reached bedroom. No door or curtain separating bedroom to living area. Watet pressure in the shower was low. Closet needed a door. Cupboard area to get essentials was bare of food and drinks.I have stayed in other Candlewood Suites and this place was disappointing. It was, however, a great location for getting to sightseeing areas and front desk staff friendly.
- 4/5
perfect location for us to stay while visiting for granddaughter's graduation
- 4/5
During my stay, I noticed that the aroma from the neighboring guest's cooking permeated my room. The smell was quite overpowering, so I took the initiative to request an air freshener from the front desk to enhance my comfort.

We did a 1 night stay in San Diego with plans at the Zoo one day and Bellmont Park the next. This was well priced and centrally located, with a spacious enough suite for our family of 6. It was quiet, clean, and comfortable.

So much the desk clerks will not return heavy smoke smell in lobby very disappointing

Clean and convenient. Very friendly staff. Would stay here again and recommend!

The hotel is close to the freeway and centrally located to many areas of San Diego.
- 5/5
It was great. Nice and spacious suite. 2 Bathrooms 2 Bedrooms. Nice and Comfy
- 3/5
The first day our sink clogged up we had to ask them to fix it. We ran out of toilet paper and had to ask for it. On the last day both toilets wouldn’t flush. It would have been nice if they had asked if we needed anything during our three day stay.
- 5/5
This was the absolute best place we could have stayed for this impromptu trip! Our room had two bathrooms that we didn’t even know of when we booked and made this family of 6 very happy. Super friendly staff and super clean rooms and property
- 1/5
Many of the amenities listed the room doesn’t have. Was told these are old pictures to the updated rooms. The utinsiles were horrible! Didn’t even have a pot to boil noodles! The kitchen counter is extremely small to cook at the drawers we’re falling apart the curtains were very stained. Charcoal bbq is actually gas on a timer the stove is on 15 min timer while trying to boil noodles! I wouldn’t stay here.. room sleeps 6 but you get 3 spoons 4 forks 2 bowls and 3 plates! Was not what I expected at all!
- 5/5
Dislike -The Spa tub was locked up and not usable.
- 5/5
This is a fantastic place to stay. They have it all. Will stay again.
- 4/5
Large space, never saw maids, front desk would allow an extra hour at checkout. We are “local” having a service at house and couldn’t get back our home til after 2pm the rude front desk would help.
- 3/5
This hotel was worth the money. Nothing fancy but not the worse I've stayed at either.
- 3/5
Thanks
- 5/5
Great Hotel, especially for the price. Would highly recommend it.
- 5/5
Great stay, great rooms. Only complaint would be they were resurfacing parking lot and had to go thru side door cause they didn't want anyone walking on new surface for one day...understandable .
- 5/5
Room was very spacious. Staff was friendly, helpful, and very attentive. The living room AC wasn’t getting cold enough but the staff changed it out in less than 30 minutes and our room got super cold. Would definitely book here again!
- 5/5
Amazing
- 5/5
Very spacious, plenty of space for our family of 5. Bathroom was a little dated, but met our needs fine. Would stay here again.
- 5/5
The faucet for the shower broke and it was immediately replaced.
- 5/5
The staff was friendly and awesome. The rooms were clan and well kept

Great trip!

Is this property is horrible... They tried to charge me three hundred dollars for my ada service dog... And the parking is not free... I do not recommend this place. They said they refunded me my money but they did not. I had to call expedia to get my money back because the hotel straight up lied About my money being refunded to me. The place right below called kings inn is much nicer, cheaper, and everyone is friendly and the hotel is always clean and always nice staff. I always feel safe and comfortable staying here.I would not stay anywhere else.
- 1/5
We had a very disappointing stay. The room was falsely advertised as a 1 bedroom suite. When we got in the room, it was a studio suite. Therefore, I assumed we were given the wrong room. When speaking with the front desk staff, I was told that they have no one bedroom suites. For that reason alone, we will not be coming back nor recommending this hotel. Unfortunately, we had an even worse issue with our room. During our two night stay each night between around 10:30pm and 7am, there was a knocking sound coming from the ceiling. At first, I thought it was someone annoyingly banging a stick of some sort. Since it went on all night and there was sort of a pattern, I realized it could not have been coming from the actions of a person. Approximately, every 20 minutes, the knocking would continue for about 10-20 seconds. This made it difficult for my wife and I to fall asleep and woke us up throughtout the night. After the first night, I addressed it to the staff member, who all very nice, had no solution. The issue was kind of brushed off and the staff member said they would have someone look into it after our stay. We are exhausted from our stay and would not recommend staying there. Very disappointed!!
- 4/5
I had issues with the card key! It took too many tries for it to get the door to open and 2 out 3 televisions where not working. Staff all wonderful, cheery and really good vibes. I got to see the cleaning ladies and they were very nice and polite! not to mention their bright smiles..
- 5/5
Great room and service..Fast and friendly clean room ..very spacious.

We arrived at the hotel at 450 and there was a sign at the front desk stating that an employee had left and would return shortly. It was almost 30 minutes before an employee returned to the desk. The lobby also had a smell of urine from an animal. The beds we’re very very firm I know some people like that but it made for a hard night of sleep. The couch bed had also seen better days. When we turned on the ac unit a few ants crawled out so a little bit of a surprise. The hotel has very assessable parking and is close to most things.
- 5/5
It’s located in hotel circle, so it wasn’t that bad for a location. Got a room that’s pretty big and easy access from the parking lot to the room
- 4/5
The staff are amazing and helpful
- 5/5
Great place to stay in the San Diego area. Good facilities. Fantastic staff.
- 5/5
The front desk attendant Rosha. Sorry not sure how to spell his name, was wonderful, very helpful. To the point that assisted my husband who was unable to get off the recliner in the room. Good experience.
- 3/5
This may be a Candlewood now but it started it's life as some other motel (doors outside on the back which isn't seen on the photos). It's been remodeled - sort of - and the room was OK but not what we were expecting based on past Candlewood experiences. The staff were curt - and if you needed anything, YOU had to go to the desk and wait to get it from them. Oh - and parking is "available" but costs $10 per night. Really, for over $200/night, you can let me park in your designated (and not full) lot during my stay. Be aware of the elevator - it makes a large clunk at the start and end but got us there OK each time. The kitchenette in the room was somewhat sad - we had 2 of everything (2 bowls, 2 cups, 2 spoons, etc.) and four of us. Many of the drawers didn't stay closed so you had to watch your shins/thighs when you went by as they were rolling open. It suited our needs as we didn't spend much time there but definitely did not meet our expectations as a Candlewood hotel.
- 5/5
Stay was great, staff was pleasant
- 2/5
Beware: They do not honor requests for service animals. Over the phone before booking and at check in everything was great. However, when checking out they tried to charge extra fees we were told twice previously did not apply. I provided our service animal credentials.
- 4/5
Loved how the 2 suites were divided with 2 bathrooms.
- 4/5
Free Laundry and ample parking were a plus.
- 5/5
This was a last minute suite reservation. Great location, ample parking and suite was very nice. Highly recommend it for anyone who wants to feel like home while out on vacation.
- 5/5
Good suite
- 2/5
This hotel is honestly gross and outdated. The only good thing about it was the price and the fact that they have big enough rooms for families of 6. They had a HUGE mosquito problem. The room itself was sooooo gross. The pull out mattress seriously needed replaced. The couch has very questionable stains. It was dusty beyond belief. Just gross. The shower leaked like crazy from all directions because of the shower head. We had to use the 3-4 towels for every shower experience. Not to mention you either got scolding hot water or cold water. No in between. Really fun for my kids especially. I didn’t want to leave the towels on their wood floors and damage the flooring so I set them outside. Someone apparently complained and they locked us out of our room to basically reprimand me…. Lol… was super weird. A simple, please don’t put your towels outside your room would have sufficed, a note on the door even. But locking us out of room? Insane.
- 1/5
I wasnt checked in to the hotel because of a glitch in the system, i was declined to check in.
- 3/5
The furniture was very uncomfortable. The couch and dining chairs you felt like you were going to go right through. White chunks of the wall missing across the wall.
- 4/5
Front staff was extremely nice and helpful. Tammy went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed and wanted. Our room was nice. Could have used a little repair to the wall but overall a great stay.
- 5/5
two bedroom suite was so spacious and the cleanliness was on another level very clean.
- 4/5
It served its purpose but the design of the room wasnt very feasible. The door they put to divided the main room and the livingroom should have seperated the kitchen. The guest in the livingroom kept coming in to use the bathroom or kitchen while I was trying to sleep. The room was, building seemed pretty old as qell. A make over would be nice.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, always smiling and very attentive to guests.
- 4/5
Never saw anyone. The noise level was irritating. The room is NOT soundproof.
- 5/5
This is now my new favorite hotel. Everything about this hotel was excellent, from the staff to the cleanliness.
- 5/5
There was more for the price point than most hotels around and the staff was friendly. Morning and night staff.
- 3/5
Overall, the space was great and I love that they had Dove products in the shower. However, our microwave didn’t work and the lady at the desk got an attitude when we asked to use the microwave in the lobby/snack area. She said she already put a work order in for ours (we still needed to use a microwave, so a work order wasn’t going to fix that). The AC in our living room area was leaking and they had two trash buckets to collect the water. We would have to dump the water daily, but the leak was annoying to hear all night. The jacuzzi was closed for maintenance so we didn’t get to use it at all.
- 5/5
It was a pretty big 2bd suite and it has a couch bed
- 2/5
Found several centipedes in our shower, hair dryer was broken, room wasn’t ready at check-in time, upstairs guests were extremely loud early in the morning, room was never cleaned by cleaning service. Really disappointing, will not be back.

Very nice property up to date great freindly staff quick and easy check inn and out
