The staff is great! Location is amazing! Doesn’t look like the pictures at all. Everything feels old and dirty, room was smelly. Quiet hours are supposed to start at 10, but one night there was loud music until 11 pm. There’s no age limit, and there were men in their late 40s and even 50s staying there. Nothing against older people, but one of them was being inappropriate with one of my male roommates, and another made uncomfortable comments toward me. That’s ultimately why I decided to leave a day early. The rest of the guests were very nice. From what I could tell, your target market seems to be younger travelers, so it might be worth considering an age limit to avoid situations like this in the future.

Nice staff. Horrible rooms. And the place was closed down by the City for health and safety issues so we were all kicked out.

Room was not very clean. There were stains on the sheets and towels. It was an unpleasant experience. Did not expect a lot for a hostel, but expected some basic cleanliness.

It’s a great beach hostel with the comfort room having all the necessary, great facilities on the site, great vibe and a very sweet team. If you like to party and communicate, there’ll be numerous options for you. Though, if you are looking for a quite stay, it is as well for you

It was the best stay if ever experienced, the staff was so friendly and willing to help, the views and location are unmatched, and the equipment that is free to use, along side the free breakfast are awesome perks!

They do not provide parking

This is a hostel, so if you want 4 stars go somewhere else. The property could use quite a bit of TLC, but the linens and rooms were clean. The staff were awesome and the overall vibe of the hostel was exactly what I hoped and more. The staff do fun nights and simple meals. Overall I really enjoyed my stay.

The room was really nice, the bed was super comfortable. The attention to detail in the decor and cleanliness was evident, and it really made a difference in my overall experience. The location was perfect, close to everything, making it easy to explore the area. I especially appreciated the beautiful view, taking breakfast in front of the sea. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Truly a fantastic place with wonderful service!

I was just not impressed with this ITH location. I've been to a couple of their other properties and was definitely disappointed with this one. The front desk girl who works the early shift was so unfriendly. The kitchen is tiny. Parking is a bit tough if you don't want to pay the $20 nightly parking rate. The bathroom is the room was so small and smelled. Unfortunately I won't be returning to this particular location.

Really nice staff and guests. I was freaking out the whole time and nobody said a single thing. Also, they have a lot of activities and bbqs. Im quite concerned about the owner's business skills. J/k

It was rarely cleaned. Guests and hosts were plastered drunk and loud till very lat at night (3am ish) most of the property is exposed to the elements, which makes the dorms and commons smell like mildew & mold. Ceiling leaked water on a bunk. Last night while I was sleeping someone from the out side was trying to get in and pick a fight. Ended up breaking part of the back patio. I could hear it happen while laying in my bunk. Did not feel safe.

Loved staying here at ITH Beach Bungalow Surf Hostel! Right on the beach, fun activities planned throughout the day, breakfast included, friendly staff-I would highly recommend if you’re looking to save a little money & meet new people in a fun community based environment.

Very affordable. Great location. Unfortunately, despite the 10pm lights out/quiet time, there were some who would talk all night, put the lights on etc. I got no sleep and had to find another place to stay. But I loved the location. Plenty to do and see. Enjoy… if you can!

The Employees were friendly we didn’t expect a lot for the price on the beach but we did expect the room we rented. This was not the deluxe private room in the pictures. Bed was comfortable but the room was in the worst shape I’ve ever stayed at. Been with my wife over 30 years and never had her stay in a room this bad. But surprisingly she was ok with it. The place has an amazing vibe lots of history and it’s unique. I would just like the room we rented on the pictures. Someone needs to spend a couple of days caulking and painting. We couldn’t touch the bathroom sink or it would fall. It’s anoint an inch from the wall. The ceiling has 3 types of texture or not at all. They have breakfast as it says but you have to cook your own. They provide eggs and pancake mix. No creamer or sugar for the coffee. It is what you make of it. Like I said good vibe, friendly people but at least give me the room I saw on the Hotels.com. We checked out and someone threw up all over our car looked like top ramen dried up. Not the Hotels fault though. Just remember looks and pictures are extremely deceiving.

The area is great. Although the bunk beds aren’t in the right spots becuase of the ladders. It could definitely be remodeled. Super old and a lot of rusty spots.

Travelers who value a good night’s sleep and cleanliness might want to choose a different hostel. The location on the beach is great but you’re roughing it here, it’s not comfortable, loud music, people talking late into the night and early morning, maybe before surfing. Also, not enough bathrooms. Too many people are sharing just two bathrooms, one in their room and one other in the common area. And cleanliness is an issue. Bathrooms are not cleaned often enough because they were not clean during my one night stay. And a lack of toilet paper in the bathrooms. Overall, this hostel is a base for surfing, sleep a little and catch a wave!

I had a good time. It’s a friendly little place and most of the people are kind.

I didn't realize from the description that this place was going to be like a summer camp for college age partiers. It was not the place to choose for peace and rest. The location is excellent and it is a fun atmosphere... Certainly geared towards young 20 year olds with themed nights like "jungle juice night" etc. The Facebook page mentioned surf lessons are available from staff but the staff there seemed not so willing to do it. Thats minor sunce there is a surf shop nearby that will. Parking is pretty terrible though. If I was 21 and looking to get wasted and mingle it would be a perfect spot. I just wanted to enjoy the beach, get good rest, and maybe make some new traveling friends. The place has some character for sure.

In poor condition. Few doors or windows made it quite uncomfortable on mornings of 40 degrees. They don't seem to like older guests.

This hostel is absolutely disgusting! For the price its best to just stay somewhere else, anywhere else! The only good thing was that it is right at the beach. The woman who checked me in gave me the wrong door code a few times and didn't explain how to open the door. When I arrived there was only a sheet on the bed and when I got back that night the sheet was GONE! I had to sleep with a TOWEL! It was cold! No one informed me that I needed to ask for a comforter and I'm not sure why they didn't give me one when I checked in or at least put one on the bed. The bathroom in the all-female room looked like it has NEVER been cleaned! It was absolutely DISGUSTING and the toilet seat was all ripped. Only God knows what happened there. The photos are a COMPLETE LIE! The photos make it look like it is bright and clean but it is dirty and grungy. The health department would shut them down. There is a kitchen that you can use but it is unusable, I even took a photo of the stove because I was in disbelief that people actually used this. I used to live in San Diego and this was just one of many places that I stayed at during my trip and this was the worst I could have imagined for so many reasons. Maybe if the price actually reflected the conditions, meaning 10 dollars a night, then I would have been a little more ok with it. But for this price, please stay somewhere else. The other people staying there were inconsiderate and I was woken up every morning at 7am. Rise and shine!

They should use the money they spent on a DJ for a Halloween party to hire a professional cleaning service instead. The place looked like it hasn’t been cleaned in 10 years. The slits on the fan cage in the room I stayed in were half the size they should be due to a buildup of dirt and dust from god knows how long ago. Bathroom was covered in mold. The sheets I was given had black stains all over them. The overall concept of this place is awesome… the front desk girl could be more welcoming.. but really it’s the cleanliness that will cause me to not go back.

I wasn't able to check in, because I had an 8 year old with me! So, beware parents... I have friends who stayed in hostels with kids before, with no problem. Especially when here, I had booked a private room. So I had to find another hotel on the spot, which thanks to hotels.com, I was able to do. I was so bummed though, was so excited to stay right on the strip...

Pleasantly surprised...location...location...location...with this property...right on the beach...surf and skate boarder paradise...good mix of ages in the crowd...fit my needs perfectly as I love the water and the community culture of the patrons is exactly the right blend for the hostel environment...would recommend even for the mature audience too... individual rooms as well as dorm set ups...get there early on the weekends as it books up full...thanks for a relaxing stay...💯

They threw a birthday party for my 53rd birthday. The staff was amazing! I wanted to name people specifically but expedia said not to The rest of the gang made it so special. I was so incredible happy...it was the best night!!! And the best stay!

Wow this place was incredible. The location, the breakfast in the morning, the outdoor lounge area, the patio that overlooks the oceans... everything was perfect. Highly recommend a backpacker to stroll through. It was so amazing.

The property is so wonderful directly located on the beach. The hostel was so welcoming and amazing. I personally booked the private room for extra money, but as a 35 year old my old school hostel days are mostly over. I did look into the rooms with bunk beds and they were also awesome. I would most definitely stay here again. Thank you to the staff who was wonderful and the wonderful people traveling along the way.

Ive stayed in hostels all over the US and I have to say this is by far and away the best hostel Ive ever stayed in. The service, amenities, community of people, the beach, the restaurants and bars etc, are perfect for the sea loving traveler. Highly recommend if you want to experience a true hostel beach life.

Late that night, went to the sundeck where someone was playing guitar to a group of guests. The staff are friendly and laid back - and I mean laid back! Again, please don't stay here for the price - there are plenty of places around Pacific Beach and San Diego to get standard hotel service. the Beach Bungalow Surf Hostel - if you can enter the spirit of it - is just a very nice escape - from COVID, from politics, from work or the worry of getting work now. It really felt more like I was in a remote place in Mexico than downtown San Diego. Also, no shortage of fantastic clubs and rooftop restaurants within a very short walking distance!

Rotten food in the fridge. Flies buzzing around the room.used bar of soap in the shower. Ripped shower curtain. Broken portable heater. Flickering light on the one night stand, the other one was the top of the fridge.no blanket.

The picture shown and the actual hotel did not look the same. There was little / no privacy. The room was very small, room for the bed alone. We did not stay, we left and went to a Real hotel. Lesson learned for us, unfortunately an expensive one.

Great place to wind down and hang out. The setting was fun and relaxed. Lots of different people from different backgrounds which was cool and inviting. Great activities like bonfire, yoga on the beach, pancakes in the morning. Very communal feel and everyone was super nice! This is not for anyone who is uptight, nit-picky or looking to have a bougie experience tho. This was true california vibes and I enjoyed my experience here. Thank you!

I enjoyed waking up to the roar of the Ocean! You will love it if you don’t require much! This was my 2nd visit and it probably won’t be my last. The location is Prime Beach Front Property.

The most horrible place I've ever seen. I read in a review here that the person wrote that had a homeless experience in that place and I totally agree. It's cheap, but you pay little for NOTHING. Very dirty, old, noisy all the time. The location is the only positive point. The guests don't respect each other, drink, use drugs and stay in and out of the room all the time. ZERO security. They give you the room key but you don't have to use it at any time, because the door is open for anyone who wants to enter. Three very small lockers that don't fit anything and that obviously were already occupied. Extremely dirty utensils and kitchen. My drink was stolen from the refrigerator (it was with my name), my personal towel that I brought from my house too. I asked the staff that by chance the cleaners had put to wash by mistake and if they could get to me, they just ignored and didn't give the minimum, not excuses asked. NEVER AGAIN.

I love this hostel. It def is a party hostel and that’s why I loved it. It isn’t super clean but the staff does try. It’s just difficult with so many people in and out. Everyone was super friendly to me and you CAN NOT beat the location. As long as you are ok with the party scene and can get over some of the cleanliness problems you will love it! I won’t be staying anywhere else! Thank you to the staff for making my trip enjoyable!

I am a local to SoCal and was curious about this Pacific Beach hostel. If you want to meet young international travelers this is the place to be for the summer. Many of the people who were staying here were on a J1 visa from Ireland, working the tourist spots. You have been forewarned though, this place is party central; to be expected since it is Pacific Beach and right on the shore. Great view of the ocean, literally, right outside the patio. Friendly folks but cocktail hour can get a little crazy and goes until midnight. During my stay, the Irish definitely showed me how they have a good time. There is a curfew so your night's rest is almost guaranteed when the clock strike's midnight. Unfortunately the bathrooms were both out of order (one sink and one toilet in each of the respective bathrooms) during my 2 night stay. I would not recommend this place if you want peace and quiet and privacy. Otherwise, it fits the bill of a beach hostel to the tee in my opinion. Great for young travelers, looking to make new friends from different places. The folks who tended to stay here were all of the sharing community minded spirit so that is not an issue. Great for budget travelers who don't need much sleep to function the next day. Not recommended for couples but great for groups if you can book a dorm room to yourselves. Definitely not a place to stay for those who need privacy and want to sleep a full 8 hours straight.

I had planned to stay two nights at ITH. The staff was very friendly, the common areas nice and clean and having a free dinner and breakfast was great! (though the food was simple, perhaps not for people expecting something extravagant). The hostel is in a beautiful location, right on the beach with easy access to surfing. In my dorm, people were fairly respectful about being quiet and the lights after others were in bed, however the room smelled of urine and the bathroom should have been cleaner. I ultimately decided to cancel my second night due to the smell in the dorm room and a couple of other guests' behavior.

The beach was the only thing, no parking, someone crapped in the shower and let there underwear. Told management and they act as if it was nothing. I checked out and left... I would up load picture if it weren’t to nasty.

Road construction hindered by ability to park close by. Patio was filled with smokers so I couldn’t enjoy the deck area.

Horrible, had to sleep with a bunch of drunk people shouting yelling and throwing doors all night (of course, did not slept at all) . No amenities at all, a coffee pot and there was not even cups to have some coffee in their "free breakfast". No heating system with broken windows makes imposible to sleep during winter time. Everything so dirty that I cant even feel safe to take a bath. Next thing in the morning I left. You get what you pay, that place is pretty much sleep under a bridge but with a mattress. Never again. I paid to have the experience of a homeless person.

I liked that everyone was friendly and caring. I didn't like the guy who threw up above me onto my bed but that was taken care of and the staff was so nice about it. It is such a great place to meet nice people.

Location was great! Right on Pacific Beach with outside patio overlooking the beach. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the complimentary Christmas dinner. Overall was a fun place to stay and would stay there again.
