Loved the easy in and out parking at the hotel for 15$ a night .Loved the communication with the friendly staff who saw to our needs as we had requested. Loved the beach /boardwalk front location of the hotel with easy gated access right to the boardwalk. Loved the charm of the grounds with the landscaping and the tables and chairs, the shuffleboard and ping pong table. The hotel maintains the feeling of a hotel in the sixties, loved the nostalgia of it. Loved the sliding glass/ screened door in our room that we could open to get the ocean breezes and sounds in our room.loved the adjustable sliding shutters that fit over the sliding door for privacy as needed. Loved the table and chairs on the little balcony in front of our room we could use and enjoy. The bed and bedding were comfortable, the flat screen tv was easy to use and had cable tv ,and it was a large size too. The micro kitchen with mini fridge ,microwave, cupboard was suitable for our needs. The neighborhood in which this hotel was located had a large grocery store very close by and umpteen bars,restaurants,coffee shops in easy walking distance. We felt at home here and did not want to leave Also need to mention that while Pacific beach is full of people in the day/evening, it quieted right down by 930 pm.

Nice place right on the beach. It's old but it had everything we needed. My kids loved the ping pong table while we BBQed. Nice fire pit to sit by and enjoy the evening. There is a grocery store right across the street if you forgot anything. I would recommend this place if you are not looking for fancy.

Unbeatable location with clean rooms and a really exceptional staff. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and eager to do whatever they could to improve our stay, and that positive experience started before we even arrived, since we had to make an adjustment in advance. I would absolutely stay here again.

We booked a 2 night stay over spring break and the only regret is that we didn't stay longer. We had the best experience staying at the beach cottages. Excellent location, the staff was very friendly and being able to text them if we needed anything was great! We will 100% be booking there again!

The cottages are an excellent way to stay in Pacific Beach if you want location and affordability. It is right on the beach but is very reasonably priced. The rooms are very clean and have everything you will need including grills, and outdoor activities like ping pong.

Ocean view was amazing and you cannot beat the location

Amazing cottages make you feel like you're back in the early 1900s very rustic but very up to date have a beautiful kitchen complete with a stove refrigerator everything step out of your room and you're right there on the boardwalk the staff is incredible a huge barbecues out side of each room I love this place

older hotel, right on the beach/boardwalk so that was nice. good food nearby. room was fine, though old and beds were not particularly comfortable. could definitely use an update. parking in the lot was extra but there was enough free parking on the street for a night. there were a decent amount of homeless/drugs/trash in the area to make me feel not confident at night with the kids though.

The location is spot on - beach front property. very clean, but the rooms are old and need updated. Noisy from the bedroom side. You could hear people talking outside like they were standing right next to you, and we were on the 2nd floor!! Staff was great. Id stay here again, but only if the price was right :D

We had a shared balcony with ocean view. The best feature was hearing the waves while we slept. The parking is nice, overall felt safe and close to activities. The night crowds are young college age. This facility seems family oriented and low key. Its a bit aged and could use some updates.

Nice to have the kitchen to make meals during our stay. Great to walk out right to the beach. The first night we were there was Valentine’s Day and the bar next door was loud pretty late, but the rest of our stay we were not bothered by noise at all. A little dated but clean and comfortable, and spacious. Lots of restaurants/coffee shops, and a grocery store very close by.

Our stay was great overall. The best part is the location and its proximity to the beach. The apartment was good but definitely needed some upgrades. Clear ocean view which was wonderful. Unfortunately, the property is surrounded by bars whose patrons make tons of noise all hours of the night and early mornings so a couple of sleepless nights. Homeless camps and students drinking and getting high on beach and boardwalk. All that said, I would definitely return if I could at least choose a preferred floor or wing but ‘no guarantees’.

Great place to stay, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the location is amazing with direct beach access and lots of great restaurants nearby. They also have a big parking lot with security and a laundry facility. The room was comfortable, large and had a full kitchen. We loved our time there and plan to go again! There are several bars nearby where you might get some noise from in the evenings, but that's not the hotel's fault in any way.

The room was great. We stayed in the cottages by the alley but we had a view, the room was clean, the beds were super comfortable. The room was spacious and perfect for our family of four.

You need to open sliding door to cool room. Room is over walkway that goes from a bar to the beach. We had people smoking weed below uscausing us to need to close door. Ex esive noise tk 3:30 in morning on Friday night from drunk people shouting below us on sidewalk. Lots of homeless people next to botel . They do have a security guard for parking lot, but its bad that they need one. Staff was nice but area is poor.

The staff is friendly and efficient. I love the kitchen area with dish ware, utensils, appliances and microwave and refrigerator! The bed was so comfortable and it was lovely hearing the waves at night!

WE LOVED OUR AMMENITIES AT THE HOTEL. THE ROOMS ARE VERY LARGE, WHICH HELPS WHILE TRAVELING WITH FAMILY. THIS IS NOW MY GO TO PLACE TO STAY IN PACIFIC BEACH. VERY AFFORDABLE TOO!

Ocean view from this unit was a bit obstructed but that was actually part of its charm. Classic California beach feel to hotel and room.

The view was blocked. Dishonest about the booking. They blamed expedia for advertising the room had an ocean view. After telling the staff the room was not exceptable. They offered a full refund. I accepted. They helped me find another hotel to stay that night. Very helpfull!

No view where I was, but I was in one of the cottages down low. Nice room, a little dated but the location was great. Beach, restaurants all right there.

Nice room and amenities for a single traveller. It takes a key card to enter the property, so I felt very safe. There's a slice of beach view from the balcony, but access to the beach is only steps away, so I didn't spend much time on the balcony. The boardwalk is directly in front of the motel, so you have all the shopping and food right there. There's also a grocery and drug store less than a block away. I never had to drive anywhere. It was heaven! It was a bit noisy a couple of nights, but I kind of expected that, so it didn't bother me much. All in all, it was a wonderful way to spend my birthday! I would definitely stay here again.

Was granted early check in, staff were great at arrival. Morning of departure; Housekeeping knocked on door at 9am. Shower was difficult to operate, most of the water came out of faucet not shower head. Impossible that occurred after one stay, should’ve been fixed prior to any arrival placed in room. Entrance light flickered all morning, bad bulb or wiring issue? Was given a $40 credit can a half ass apology

We had beach views (not all rooms do) that we took full advantage of. The Cottages were for the most part very quiet and I always felt safe. Wi-Fi worked plenty good as well.

This was one of the very best times ive ever had away from hime and I was sad to have to leave but i will most definitely be back and stay at the cottages . It was so relaxing and a very much needed break from the stresss from my daily life, Thank Your so very much !!

Do not stay in the north building unless you want to be woken up by drunk college kids brawling in the alley. The main building seemed much nicer and safer. Room was spacious and had a little kitchen which was nice but very very dated. Super loud at night and didn't feel really safe with so many people spilling into the alley. Nice and close to all the beach life which was great but I wouldn't stay here again, way overpriced for what you get.

This was the right price for our fall trip. The room was dated, but clean and in good repair. No ac was a bit rough but the two provided fans were helpful. Having the windows open at night let in a ton of noise late at night and early in the morning. For what this is, it was a good value and fit what we needed.

Acess to the beach was amazing although the view from 2nd floor balconies are blocked by the roof tops of cottages. This was my 4th time here and will certainly be back.

This place was perfect for our family trip. We loved that it had a small kitchen with all the essentials so we can stay in and cook as well. I felt like everything we can need or want was within walking distance. I definitely would stay here again the next time we visit San Diego.

Perfect no frills motel right in the middle of Pacific Beach! Free parking a huge plus - I would 1000% recommend the Cottages and have been coming to PB for years - this is the best bang for your buck amd again the location outweighs any “swankyness” it lacks - you will not be disappointed

From the email exchange to our first interaction with the front desk to the friendly staff, the Beach Cottages were a great choice. Due to the location, it can be a bit loud at the bars below, so bring some ear plugs or install a white noise app on your phone. We loved our stay there and will likely be back!

Everything is good

The staff was amazing. Cleaning crew was incredible. Easy on site parking. Great restaurants nearby: Water Bar, Seaside Pizza, and Baja Beach Cafe to name a few. The room was always clean. Included small kitchette with plates, silverware, etc. We faced Thomas Ave with an ocean view on the third floor. This is a noisy location. Baja Beach Cafe is right below and is a loud late night party spot. Traffic is noisy, especially early morning truck deliveries and late night cruising with loud music and exhausts. Please note there is no air conditioning. Yes, that matters even right on the beach.

You can not beat this location. It is right on the beach and boardwalk in the midst of the action; with a private locked entrance. It was amazing; we loved our stay. Now - it's not deluxe, i do think the beach and sand environment affects so many things. Yet, we loved it and would return!

Thurs, Fri, Sat, nites can be noisy as there is lots of nightlife nearby, great view of the Pacific and just steps away from the beautiful grounds of the property. Grocery store and pharmacy right across the street. Public transportation from San Diego airport right to the property. We'll be back.

I have stayed at the property many times over the years and love the location. Beds are comfortable and it’s very clean! Staff is super friendly. I’ve stayed at more expensive places on the boardwalk and they were not great. Aside from newer decor the stay was disappointing, because of that I always return to the Beach Cottages!

Location of the spot is immaculate for the price - right on the beach and in walking range of many good spots. Staff was friendly and the place was clean. Parking is easy to access and gated. Interior was a bit dated but that’s my only complaint.

We have stayed at the Beach Cottages several times. They are clean, have great staff, are in a great location, and we are always happy with our visit.

First off the location was the best part of the stay. Right in Pac beach, walking distance to many many businesses and of course the beach. The room was just OK, bed was fine, it had a small fridge and microwave. No AC but for the time of year we went that wasn't an issue. Where I could not overlook was the shower water pressure! It was a trickle and very hard to shower without it taking an hour! Probably worst shower pressure ive seen and we travel 4-6 times per year. The room we were in was in the west wing and you could hear a lot of street noise, partying, traffic etc. At almost $200 per night im not sure all that was worth the location.

The cottages were fantastic. The staff was very helpful and customer service oriented. We were in a regulate room, but we we had plates, bowls, and forks in the room so we were able to bbq at one of the bbqs in the courtyard and not have to purchase those things.

We stayed in the north building and it was great! Super fast check in! Super close to the beach! The room was nice, big and clean! There are many things around for dinning! Noisy because it is around a busy area..but that is not a problem for us! Love it and will definitely return!!

Let's just say that an alleyway is nothing like the beach! Our balcony doors looked out onto the side of a building. The window looked out onto an alleyway and dumpster. The room was large as well as the bathroom. Television was small. Bathroom towels were all stained as was the tub. It had a small fridge and microwave which worked well. Had dishes, cups, and silverware. Didn't have a Do Not Disturb sign and when I asked for one was told there were no more. Beds were comfortable and clean. Had a ceiling fan for when it got a bit warm 1 day. I will never stay in anything other than a cottage at this establishment ever again. I don't like saying bad things about a place I've been to numerous times, but just want others to be forwarned.

The weather was perfect! The view was beautiful! The front desk staff was really friendly, and when you travel to a place like this, what you need is good service, and that's what I received on this trip and at this hotel!

Great location with very easy access to the beach, restaurants and shopping. The front desk staff were very responsive to all of our questions and requests. I couldn't say enough nice things about our stay. Just about the slight drawback is the fact that the rooms open to the outside - we are used to staying in hotels with rooms that open to a hallway and all entry is controlled via the lobby area.

We stayed in the west wing on the second floor in an accessible room with two queen beds. Upon arrival, there was sand all over the bathroom floor/walls, a piece of plastic trash behind the toilet, and a hair in the bathtub like it hadn't been cleaned. I called the front desk and they said they'd take care of it. When we got back, the sand was swept from the floor but still on the walls, the trash was still behind the toilet, and the hair was still in the tub. You can see the stains on the floor. They don't even bother to mop. The lampshades are stained. There's dust behind the headboards. A crusty stain on the bedskirt. The white towels are marked up. No AC, no heat. No luggage rack so you have to use the tables for suitcases so you can't use the tables as tables. Not even basic amenities. The neighborhood is loud with all the bars, bring ear plugs if you want to sleep. It was hard to fall asleep and I kept waking up. Parking is $15/night even though there are plenty of spaces open. Room total is charged upon check-in, not checkout. That was a first. Water pressure is a joke even by motel standards. It's mostly just too expensive for the cleanliness to be this bad. I wouldn't stay here again for free. It was so uncomfortably dirty.

Staff were always available and accommodating. We stayed on the second floor of the north building. We knew ahead of time that it overlooked an alley. What we didn’t know was that there were bars backing onto the alley. It was very noisy at night with loud arguments and swearing. Early mornings brought deliveries and garbage trucks!

Terribly noisy - room overlooked an alley behind one or more bars. Load shouting and swearing at night, garbage trucks and delivery trucks early in the morning. Would definitely not stay in that location again.

I overall had a fine stay at the property! Negatives: The room was a little dirty, things had not been wiped down thoroughly, and the towels and sheets had stains. One of the ice bins under the sink had some mold growing in it (clearly was wet and ignored for a while!) Additionally, the rooms are not very sound proof, you can hear everyone around you, but it was pretty quiet by 10pm when quiet hours kicked in. Positives: The location is incredible, right on the ocean, with easy walking access around the Mission Beach area, and immediate beach access. Lots of restaurants and little shops around to check out. The staff were very kind and helpful. I don't know that I would stay here again other than for the incredible location.

Stay was great, service was amazing!! The hotel and cottages could use an upgrade as they’re very dated and showing wear however they were very clean (minus a bandaid we found in a blanket) everything else was clean. Plus you’re right at the beach - location is superb!

We loved our cottage at The Beach Cottages. We were steps from the beach. Our room had a kitchenette and we walked to Ralph’s to get some groceries. However there are tons of great places to eat really close to the hotel. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They keep the place very nice! We had such a great time!

The location is amazing. Right on the seawall, and parking is easy with FOB access. We stayed in a beach cottage and it was cozy and perfect for the night. A bit rustic but everything you need is right there, the furnace worked great, wifi was perfect, bathroom great, linens etc great, and the view is amazing. You can't get any close to the beach. The only small issue we had was early in the morning when I used the microwave the power circuit to the whole cottage tripped and we lost all power. Not great since my wife was in the shower in the dark, but a call to the front desk had it fixed within 5 minutes, and I wouldn't let that ruin my stay. Overall it was great and we will be back.

It’s right on the beach. We had so much fun! It was PERFECT for our family. We would love to stay here again. The front desk even gave our kids ketchup because we forgot to pick some up.

Our room was clean and spacious. It had all the amenities we could possibly need a cute Kitchenette, that was fully stocked with pots pans, and dishes. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and carried our luggage to the second floor.

It is steps from the beach but also has a keyed entry so it felt very safe. They have ping pong, shuffle board and ample grills and hang out areas. Definitely staying here again.

Great location with beautiful views. I loved the balcony and view of the ocean! It took me awhile to find it, a hotel that was really on the beach. We also had the most beautiful weather I was told by the locals it was unusual for the first week of January. The sunsets were amazing.The area restaurants were lovely and many cute shops that had everything. A shout out to the Beach Cafe right in front of the hotel. I had breakfast there and it's on the beach, I was in heaven, the staff were great. I also learned of the interesting history the hotel has. I talked to people on the beach that have been going there for many years and said it was the best. One couple had tried all the area hotels and always came back to the Beach Cottages. A well designed cozy place on the beach. The staff were wonderful. I'll be back. Thank you so much!

The location is great but the room and overall condition of the hotel is not. If you are on a budget it's a decent trade off, but if you want something clean and nice this is definitely is not the hotel. The location is awesome though.

Stayed there for two nights with my husband and two teen children. Front desk staff was very friendly. I appreciated the texting method to check in and communicate. The room and bathroom was much larger than expected. Room was dated. You can see the wear and tear. They had an old-school heater unit but it worked fine warming up the room. Beds were decent. Unfortunately, we saw a cockroach in the bathroom. It was our last night and late so it didn't feel worth it to do anything or change rooms. Also, they're located close a few restaurants where the patrons party until late into the night. We had the displeasure of hearing them at 1 am as well as police sirens several times late into the night. It wasn't something the hotel could control but something to think about with the location.

Excellent place to stay on the beach!

I loved having a cabin like feel to staying in a hotel along the ocean. The location was awesome as well.

Furniture is Too old. Chair and table unstable. Sink drainage very slow.

Fantastic stay

Great area next to the beach, but close to bars

A great value for a beachfront property. Plenty of shops, restaurants and bars that you can walk to. Convenient to Downtown and the airport. Not a posh resort but very clean and comfy.

We came here on a quick weekend getaway. When we pulled up, we were pretty unsure about The Beach Cottages but when we got into our room we were delighted. It's right in the heart of the Pacific Beach area and so close to the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and the staff were very friendly and took care of our every need.

Convienent location

Absolutely love this hotel! The staff is always super nice and helpful. The area is very convenient and has a lot of nice restaurants and stores.

The check in was probably the most efficient and easiest check in I have ever experienced. The staff was nice and helpful. The room I stayed in was a little dated but extremely clean. There is no A/C but there is a ceiling fan and that combined with the weather and ocean breeze kept it cool enough. I can’t say enough good about the location and how close to the ocean it was. My family and I will definitely be staying again when we come back to California.

Adorable cozy room with a screened sliding door with an incredible view of the beach. The sound of the ocean waves from our room was lovely. Access just minutes away. So easy and awesome. Cute shops to grab souvenirs and great quality hoodies, great restaurants and an ice cream shop too. Ralph’s is right across the street to grab munchies and Starbucks coffee. Perfect location!!! This was the perfect place to stay for one night while touring SDSU with my daughter. Some reviews complained about the small size of the rooms but if you are not big people with a ton of stuff, it’s great. Very well priced too for being beachfront!
