Gateway Hotel Santa Monica

We had stayed there several times before, and the beds / bedding is very comfortable. Very Clean. They have recently gone through upgrading renovations. The new floors (non-carpet) are nice, but they allow so much noise to travel from one floor to another. The pounding from the unit above (we were in room 349)went on until 1am. I thought the hotel laundry room must have been above us, or a family with 5 kids jumping up and down for 2 hours. It was also disappointing that the restaurant next store was closed - it was a favorite.

Great place to stay. All necessary needs met. Over the last month I have stayed several times . Definitely plan to stay again in a couple of months. I highly recommend this location.

Stayed 2 nights. Some people like super hot showers. I’m not one of them. I was forced to suffer through an unpleasant lukewarm shower on morning #1. Later that day the staff told me they fixed the problem. Not so. The water was slightly colder on morning #2, so I didn’t even bother. 0 for 2 on showers—definitely setting a record low in my experience.

Staff were wonderful, we had arrived from a long international flight early in the morning knowing check-in wasn’t until 3pm. They offered to organise an earlier check in (11am!) and stored our bags while we filled in a couple of hours. Was a bit further from the beach strip at Santa Monica than I realised.

Location, staff and check-in & out expreience was fine. Our rooms had a lot of moist and smell according to that. Hotel has a big construction going on, there was no place for having breakfasts, a lot of construction was in progress. If i knew about such operations wouldn't choose this place for my vacation. This was the worst stay i had from Booking even the location and staff were great.

We liked the clean, comfortable room, particularly the beds! Recently renovated room gave a fresh feel. Daily housekeeping was appreciated after a run of other, similarly priced hotels only offering the service every other day. Complimentary breakfast was a help but the breakfast itself was unimaginative and basic. Useful shops within easy walking distance and the beach is about 30-35 minute walk, or a bus ride away. We used buses a lot: they cost 20-75 cents (depending on operator and day) as we were seniors. Room lighting was poor.

The breakfast bad. Miniature pancakes cereal and almost cold coffee. Substandard compared to other hotels I have stayed in.

This was a nice, clean hotel. Construction was taking place & it was still pleasant. We walked to the beach & plenty of nice eateries nearby.

There was construction on the lobby but it didn't impact us much and staff were extremely helpful. Rooms were clean and a good size. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a well-priced option in a decent location in Santa Monica.

Having spent hours navigating through ticking traffic and I’ll-mannered navigation for graduation and commencement, and arriving at the lobby at Gateway to welcoming smiles and thoughtful service proceeded me the perfect respite and recovery I needed for resetting. I love this place-the people, the property, the provisions—all perfect. I met a Fenton the elevator who travels this way frequently and said, “I always stay here-even before they started the renovations—the service is unbeatable. And correct he is. The staff here work like they are happy to be here and to be working here. The vibe is escalated hospitality without attention-seeking. I’ve never been to a hotel before where guests just hang out in the lobby just becuase the vibe is welcoming; no small talk, no sales pitches, just adding to the energy doing your own thing. At Gateway-although I was alone, I was never without…thank you all so much. 207

Great hotel. Clean, modern, friendly staff. My only complaint is there is no signage or address posted on Santa Monica Blvd so the hotel is hard to find. I understand it is because the hotel is being renovated but it is very frustrating to be looking for a property when there is no address or name. Both appear on the side street which isn’t helpful

This hotel is everything you need for a corporate visit to Santa Monica. The rooms are large with a desk inside that is helpful. The hotel itself is a bit outdated in a few areas and while we there the restaurant was closed. The staff were all sweet and super helpful when needed. A great bonus is the location - far enough from the crowds of tourists, but close enough if you want that experience....and there are 3 fantastic places to eats just blocks away!

The Gateway was a perfect spot to take care of business in Santa Monica. The rooms were clean, Staff was attentive, and parking was safe. I plan to book another room in May.

The stay was pleasant. We were on the go most the time. Location was good for the parties we came to see. Breakfast was perfect for the get up and go agenda we had. The only down side was the water pressure in the bathroom sink in #437.

The hotel was in a great location, all staff were very friendly and super helpful before and after my procedure that I was in town for. I had a great experience and I would rebook. I would recommend having an onsite microwave for convenience for anyone that that is staying for more than a couple days at a time but other than that everything was great.

The room was very clean, and the breakfast was good. However, the staff wasn’t particularly friendly. The biggest issue was the air conditioning—it was very loud and seemed outdated. Our room was also next to the vending and ice machines, which made it even noisier. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel unless you’re on a tight budget and want to be close to the beach.

It is an excellent place to stay. It is clean. It is renovated. I come for business once a month and the staff is delightful.

The workspace was perfect for remote work, the housekeeping staff was so efficient and kind! The front desk never missed a greeting or call. Everyone at this property is so professional and I would recommend staying here!

This is a serviceable, clean, perfectly decent place to stay in Santa Monica, located in a neighborhood with lots to walk to. Nothing fancy but clean and convenient.

the property was decently within walking of plenty of shopping. Our second night there we returned to people in our room repairing the shower. We had not been notified of any issues, we asked to be moved and it was done quickly but would have loved a heads up that we needed to be out of the room longer after a long day out in the sun we were ready to relax. Not move from room to room. otherwise the property was nice.

Remolded room was too dark. Light by the bed was very poor. The pillows were lumpy. Maid opened a window and didn’t close it. I didn’t know until the middle of the night since it was hot and noisy. I asked the front desk for a lamp and to tell the maid not to open the window. At breakfast, I had to ask for napkins. I doesn’t a free bottle of awful wine. Would rather have another bottle of water. I doubt that I will stay at this hotel again.

We saw two bugs in our room. Staff was very friendly the overall is it is nice to be that close to the hospital but the rooms are older. The stay was not terrible, but it is not a place I will stay again. The bugs freaked me out.

We liked everything BUT they neglected to say the hotel was under construction and the noise from 8-5 was hideous. Absent that, we'd have rated it superior

Room was noisy due to hotel renovations right above the floor they placed me in. Front desk didnt care about the noise ans basically said you knew it was under renovation so theres nothing else we can do. Room was not very clean and had no hot water in backroom faucet.

The location is unbeatable—right next to great restaurants, with a bus stop directly across the street. There’s also a fantastic breakfast spot one block away called Travertine. The housekeeping staff were incredibly friendly and kind, which made the stay even better. Parking is available in the garage under the building. The spaces are tight, but for $23 with unlimited in‑and‑out access, it’s a great value. Breakfast at the hotel was simple—fruit, coffee, and toast—but it was included in the price, so no complaints. Overall, a very pleasant stay and I would happily return.

The Gateway is in a great location! Walk to the beach, coffee & restaurants! Entire staff were friendly & room had everything we needed including a small fridge.

I have had recurring appointments at St John’s Hospital so this has become somewhat of a 2nd home -so the location could not be better. The staff is always friendly and courteous. The rooms clean and well-equipped. This visit there was a problem with one of the elevators being out-of-service- nothing a bit of patience couldn’t solve. The associated restaurant has been excellent though unfortunately closed on Sundays and Mondays- our usual appt. days.

The room is super clean and nice and the check in staff were super friendly. However, when we went to go check out, the man working at the front desk was a little rude and was confused on the checkout process. This caused a delay in checking out. We are still waiting to make sure we were charged the correct amount.

This was my second stay. The Hotel is conveniently located, bed was comfortable, the continental breakfast was good. (The Cold Blue Lighting in the rooms is Terrible). Feels like you'e in an operating room. Same cold light at the front desk. They need to change to a warm lights throughout the hotel, only comfortable light is the bathroom mirrors. Lastly, there are no window drapes, just shutters that do not block enough of the morning light.

The room was spotless. Comfortable bed and pillows. The front desk people were pleasant. For me, the location was perfect. I had a lab procedure in the building directly across the street! Afterwords, a short walk to Tartine Bakery for lunch!

This was my second stay here. I love the location, the small quaint hotel feel, the staff is incredibly nice. The main complaint is the noise from the floor above. Just a heads up, there is not much insulation. A loud foot could pose a pretty noisy stay. I will stay here again, on the top floor.

initial problems with the room; safe didn't work. Lobby bathroom is locked, even to the guests. If you need it you have to get staff to let you in. Why don't they use a combinat=ion lock for the guests

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Gateway hotel. The hotel will be going under renovation and if anything, maybe it could be stylistically updated, but the rooms were clean, all basics were covered, and the staff was very courteous. I do recommend you check to confirm the updated parking price as it was not updated on third-party website.

Check in was a piece of cake! Plenty of parking and the front desk staff was friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. The Gateway has my favorite set up - the sink and mirror outside of the bathroom. That way, I can do my hair and make-up while my husband is showering. There’s a great restaurant adjacent to the hotel as well. Very close to St. John’s. We would stay here again!

Room was clean and nice and overall property was very well kept. However, staff was a little noisey in the mornings and knocked on our door at 8am both mornings (check out was at noon mind you) which was frustrating for us when we wanted to sleep in a little. Walls are a bit thin as well so you can typically hear anyone talking in the hallway or people playing music loudly in their rooms.

Considering this is a budget-friendly hotel it stands well above it’s competitors. The room (standard with 2 queens) was clean and modern with a large bath. What stood out was the staff who went above and beyond to be helpful. I love the parking onsite at a reasonable cost. The free continental breakfast was nothing much so don’t plan on breakfast in. They are renovating and I fear they will join the others with out-of-reach rates but let’s hope not.

The room and building was clean. Comfortable bed and sheets and linens. Nice shower.The breakfast had good options for a to-go style breakfast. Noise from the street and vibrations from people walking in other rooms, even though we were on the top floor and also the cleaning people speaking to each other in the hallways in the morning. if the noise doesn’t bother you, this is a great value.

I stayed two nights, the first night was OK because it was relatively quiet, and we did stay in a handicap room which served me perfectly at the moment because I have a bum knee. The second night we had made a reservation after the fact so they had to move us out of the room while we were attending a baptism so we were rushed packing before we had to leave, and the staff moved our things to a different room. when we came back late in the evening they put us in a room that was facing the street, which was absolutely horrendous because we heard sirens all night. We turned the air conditioner on so we could muffle the sound, but that was even worse! Room 333, stay out of it if possible, no water pressure also! I don’t like staying in a hotel that does does not have a private bathroom. The wash sink and mirror work in the same area where the beds are. So the light has to go on when people are sleeping. Not a good idea experience.

For the price being in Santa Monica, this hotel was certainly very adequate. Parking was convenient and the staff was friendly and professional and my room was ready at 1pm, well before check-in. The gym was good, better than some with a few cardio machines and some weights. The room was mixed. The bedroom was quite nice and had a nice view but the bathroom itself could use a bit of an update with a bathtub/shower combo w shower curtain and plumbing fixtures that were asking to be updated. Had mixed feelings about the sink being outside of bathroom. The promised bottle of wine (tiny bottle of cava) was something.

The rooms are clean, the staff friendly, and the breakfast is basic, but there are no tables or chairs to sit at. Parking is available directly below the hotel, but you have to pay extra!

My room was clean but the AC unit could get quite loud when it was turned on and it was noticeable especially at night with occasional banging sounds, the wifi was also a bit spotty as I had a hard time staying connected while on online meetings.

We have stayed at this hotel 13 times in 16 years, which is every trip we have taken to LA in that time. The hotel is clean, quiet, reasonably priced, easy self parking and helpful, friendly staff. This is not a luxury hotel, but it has everything you need to have a great vacation.

Older hotel but clean, staff was friendly, I requested a birthday card to be wrote for my wife’s birthday and they did that and we got a 2 bottles of champagne, parking was 17 a night so super cheap compared to other places and it was easy and elevator access to rooms from parking deck

Staff were great. My air condtioner was not working initially, but they were quick to resolve it. The attached restaurant was great. Love being in Santa Monica, but with it comes traffic and sirens. Breakfast was limited with people trying to juggle their plates and coffee due to only a few seats in the lobby. Overall, excellent.

Nice place, very quiet for the area, my truck was very tall and didn’t fit in the Lower garage, the reception lady was very helpful finding a special spot so i could park there worry free. Very helpful!

Easily the best place to stay in cripple Creek. Complementary breakfast was OK, but hey, it was free! The next spec place in cripple Creek would be to stay at the new hotel/casino, but then you would be staying at a casino. I really appreciate it The quiet seclusion of this place while still being quite close to all of the action in town. Very homey and clean and the beds were very comfortable.

This property was nice to stay at! The staff were all respectful but the breakfast was a little bit of a let down.

The room was bigger than expected and well-lit. The room & bathroom were not only clean but tastefully decorated. AC was a tad loud, but otherwise, it was a very comfortable place to stay. Highly recommend this place.

That said, there are a couple of drawbacks for anyone planning an extended stay. The rooms do not have microwaves, which makes it difficult to reheat meals. In addition, there are no laundry facilities in the hotel, which can be challenging if you’re staying for more than a few days.

Great location for Providence Saint John's!! 1.5 blocks away and fairly safe for walking to and from the Hospital. Plus Restaurant alongside SoCalo - the Street Bowl has mega Grilled Veggies!!! And the Open Breakfast bar is great to crab a bowl of cereal, yogurt, fruit & coffee!! Definitely a Great Value overall

Poor soundproofing from the ceiling and street noise

Room was outside the ice and vending machine. I was not notified. Loud and room not adequately sound proofed. Shared balcony with limited security. 45 min walk from SM beach.

I inspected the rooms before unpacking and sitting on the beds and thank goodness I did. The Rooms had been cleaned well but the mattresses were so dirty it was horrifying. Blood and or bodily fluid stains bedaubed the mattresses and I checked back out immediately. The area surrounding the hotel is decent enough but probably among the worst parts of Santa Monica. The hotel staff refused to give me a refund despite me checking back out less than 10 minutes after I arrived. Thankfully Expedia processed my refund

The queen size mattress in my room was firm and comfortable but the pillows were too high and firm. There are 4 pillows for every bed all of the same type and firmness! Parking was for a fee but convenient. The gym was too small with no ventilation and you need to get a separate key to get in. Breakfast was minimal but coffee tasted better than average.

Also appreciated the reading lights. Great shelves in the bathroom and a good hairdryer.

The food options (advertised as continental breakfast) were minimal. If you're looking for a firm mattress, do not stay here. Maybe managed 4 hours sleep on the too soft mattress. Then the right wing TV in the lobby. Not what I wanted greeting me after a rough sleep. Please be more considerate to all your guests in that way.

Liked the area and the convince of the location

Very friendly and helpful staff at check in/out. I appreciated the non skid mat in the shower, the toiletries, and a well lit mirror over the sink. I ate at Socalo next door and it was amazing - highly recommend. The parking fee was very reasonable for the area. I highly recommend staying her and will return if in the area again.

A very clean & friendly place to stay that’s a short distance from the beach. Parking on site & a fantastic place to have dinner downstairs (SOCALO). Room was comfortable with a great view of some towering palm trees.

Staff was amazing, breakfast was fun with the pancake machine but nothing special. Rooms were great and location as well. The problem was that the balcony outside our room on the 4th floor was lit all night, and the plantation shutters weren’t effective. The room was still very brightly lit and made it hard to sleep. We love our comfortable stay, it’s a good option if you visit santa monica for the first time.

Breakfast was also sad, cereal, milk, hard boiled eggs. pancakes were alright. It seems like people live there on the regular. So just be aware of that. We moved to the Marriott down the street a little bit more pricy but worth it.

The rooms were very clean, staff was accommodating for some issues we had our first night with guests above us. The blinds they have don't block the light well so that was not enjoyable. Overall for what we needed it was a fine hotel.

Great facility with easy access to underground parking - ideal for downtown location with no street parking/parking lot. Sanitary seal on bathroom toilet a big plus. Staff for happy hour at next door restaurant (under separate management) were really welcoming and helpful, great food also! Hotel was further from the beach than we thought based on info provided on Expedia site.

I suppose if you get partiers in the room next door it could get noisy but what hotel isn't? The breakfast was pretty basic but then if you stayed at a high 3nd hotel that was two or three times the price, guess what? You would get no breakfast. Be happy with what you get, all of the other hotels in the areas where mostly built 70 80 years ago and have been renud but are old and creaky.

Location was good and convenient

In Santa Monica for a UCLA medical appointment, the property is an ideal location for imaging and a doctor's office visit. The hotel is older and lacks some of the amenities found in other hotels, such as a pool or fitness room. Some of the rooms also feature a sink located in the room, separate from the toilet and bath area. The continental breakfast is just enough to grab something and go, but nothing fancy. Ideally, it worked for what I required from my visit to Santa Monica.

Enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Breakfast was grab and go. Location is roughly 33 mins to downtown Santa Monica. Felt safe. Restaurant around the corner and grocery store on 15th street. Overall, had a god stay.
